SHINEDOWN's BRENT SMITH And ZACH MYERS Perform METALLICA's 'Nothing Else Matters' (Video)
 Atlantic Records has announced the release of "(Acoustic Sessions)", the forthcoming EP from SMITH & MYERS, better known to rock fans everywhere as Brent Smith and Zach Myers of SHINEDOWN. The EP arrives on the iTunes Store and at all leading digital retailers on January 28.
"(Acoustic Sessions)" sees Smith and Myers tackling a half dozen classic songs by such legendary artists as THE CLASH, METALLICA, Otis Redding, Kenny Wayne Shepard — who makes a surprise cameo on the recording of his own "Blue On Black" — BLACK CROWES and SOUL ASYLUM, all selected by SHINEDOWN fans as the tracks they'd most like the band to cover. The stripped-down recording sessions were filmed in their entirety by SHINEDOWN's longtime collaborator, filmmaker Darren Doane, resulting in intimate companion videos for each of the EP's six tracks. The fourth song/video from the collection to be unveiled, METALLICA's "Nothing Else Matters", can be seen below. Videos for each of the EP's remaining tracks will premiere there daily leading up to the collection's January 28 release day.
"This is for the fans," says Smith. "They picked the songs and we recorded them — it's as simple as that. And I must say that our audience has great taste."
According to The Pulse Of Radio, SHINEDOWN initially planned to release an album of acoustic cover songs this year, but the original 10-song set turned into a six-track EP somewhere along the way. Smith told The Pulse Of Radio that the band's idea of posting videos on YouTube of them recording all 10 songs was what caused the problem. "Some of the artists were cool with letting us put them up, like basically on YouTube, and like show the video of the song being recorded," he said. "Some of the artists were cool with the video and some of the artists weren't cool with the video, and that's totally their decision. So the first six were approved and good to go and you could show the video with it and everything else, so those are the first six that we're gonna release."
The four songs left off the EP — which include BON JOVI's "Wanted Dead Or Alive" and ADELE's "Someone Like You" — will eventually surface without videos on iTunes.
In other news, January 22 will see the eagerly anticipated broadcast television premiere of SHINEDOWN's installment of "The Live Room" on Palladia. Filmed at the famed Henson Studios in Los Angeles, the exclusive set features electrifying versions of SHINEDOWN favorites like "Bully" and "I'll Follow You" — both featured on the band's chart-topping 2012 smash, "Amaryllis" — alongside a surprising and powerful cover of Carole King's "I Feel The Earth Move".
"The Live Room: Shinedown" debuts January 22 at 9 p.m. EST, with additional airings slated for the coming weeks (check local listings).

GUNS N' ROSES, TESTAMENT, MACHINE HEAD, EXTREME, Ex-MEGADETH Guitarists Perform At 'Randy Rhoads Remembered'
 Nuno Bettencourt (EXTREME, RIHANNA), Marty Friedman (MEGADETH), Gus G. (OZZY OSBOURNE, FIREWIND), Alex Skolnick (TESTAMENT), Phil Demmel (MACHINE HEAD), Brad Gillis (NIGHT RANGER), Kiko Loureiro (ANGRA), Rowan Robertson (DIO), Tracii Guns (L.A. GUNS) and Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal (GUNS N' ROSES) are among the musicians who performed at the "Randy Rhoads Remembered: A Celebration Of A Legend" event, which took last night (Saturday, January 25) at The Observatory in Santa Ana, California. Fan-filmed video footage of the concert can be seen below.
Brian Tichy and Joe Sutton, the creators of "Bonzo Bash" (the celebration show for LED ZEPPELIN's John Bonham), in conjunction with Randy Rhoads' brother Kelle Rhoads; the Rhoads family; "Bonzo Bash" guitarist/former student of Randy's, Brent Woods; as well as one of Rhoads' dearest friends, rock bass legend Rudy Sarzo, came together to put on the ultimate tribute celebration in honor of one of the the most influential and brightest stars the world of rock guitar has ever seen; Randy Rhoads, the legendary guitarist who revived Ozzy Osbourne's career with two iconic records. Sadly, Randy's future was cut short on March 19, 1982 when he died in a plane crash. He was only 25 years old. His songwriting, solos, technique and tone on the albums "Blizzard Of Ozz" and "Diary Of A Madman" permanently placed him at the top of rock's most influential guitarists polls. The idea to give Randy a night of honor came together within the hundreds of hours of "Bonzo Bash" preparation and phone conversations between Brian Tichy and Joe Sutton. The two would often talk about other musicians that had made a huge impact on them growing up. The name that would come up and excite them the most was always Randy Rhoads.
Sometime in 2013, Tichy threw this idea at Brent Woods, a student of Rhoads' from the pre-Ozzy era, when Randy was not only the most popular local guitarist at the time, but an extremely popular teacher at Musonia, his mother Delores Rhoads' (Dee) music school. Brent has stayed very close with the Rhoads family as well as producing Kelle's classical music. Brent ran this idea by Kelle Rhoads, who had already been to a "Bonzo Bash". Kelle expressed interest in this and soon after, Woods and Tichy met with Kelle at Musonia. After a tour of the school and hours of hanging, Kelle gave the show his blessing and preparation began. Tichy contacted legendary bassist Rudy Sarzo; his friend and bandmate from the recent Geoff Tate QUEENSRŸCHE tour they did together. Sarzo, bassist for QUIET RIOT, OZZY OSBOURNE and WHITESNAKE, also gave his blessing and agreed to play bass alongside Tichy, making up the night's rhythm section!
Sarzo, one of the few people that had so much history alongside Rhoads and watched this amazing talent take over the world of rock guitar firsthand, said, "'Randy Rhoads Remembered' is a unique celebration of his compositions and trail blazing guitar techniques.
"Randy Rhoads Remembered" included an array of the world's best guitarists as well as special guests all coming together to honor the man that we all wish was still here writing and performing.
Every song from "Blizzard Of Ozz" and "Diary Of A Madman" was performed; each song by a different guitarist. Some guitarists tie into Randy's history, others are icons that were themselves hugely influenced by Randy Rhoads.
Tichy, ex-drummer for WHITESNAKE, FOREIGNER, BILLY IDOL and OZZY OSBOURNE, as well as guitarist for S.U.N., said: "Randy's playing, and the music on those two Ozzy records were huge to me!
"I am a drummer but I also started putting a lot of time into guitar at the same time Randy came out.
"I heard Ozzy being interviewed on the radio when 'Blizzard Of Ozz' was released. They played 'I Don't Know' and when the guitar kicked in, I was floored and I was an instant fan!
"I spent countless hours trying to learn Randy's songs, riffs and solos while I was also just a beginner on guitar. I tried to learn Randy's live solo note for note! I had Randy's posters on my basement walls! I still have those posters framed in my home studio right now! Brent and I even shared a bottle of Randy Rhoads wine when it first came out!
"I went on to play with the amazing Zakk Wylde in PRIDE & GLORY and then had the honor to play with Ozzy himself on the 2000 Ozzfest tour with another student of Randy Rhoads', Joe Holmes, an awesome guitarist in his own right. Not to mention that just this year, while playing guitar with my band S.U.N. in Las Vegas, Rhoads' replacement in the Osbourne band, Jake E. Lee, came up on stage and jammed with us!
"But I think this next story may take the cake...
"In 2000, after auditioning for Ozzy in Burbank, California, I left and headed to a gig. I was going a tad too fast on Hollywood Way and got pulled over. The officer saw my drums and asked what I was doing. I told him, 'I just auditioned for Ozzy Osbourne and I am running late for a gig.' The officer replied, 'BLACK SABBATH was the first concert I ever saw, and I pulled Randy Rhoads over on this same street. If you get the Ozzy gig, I want you to send me a T-shirt. Now get out of here and slow down!' So, yes, I sent him the T-shirt! Haha!"

STAM1NA: 'Panzerfaust' Video Released
 "Panzerfaust", the new Jouni Kallio-directed video from Lemi, Finland-based metallers STAM1NA, can be seen below. The song is taken from the band's sixth album, "SLK", which will be released on February 7 via Sakara Records. The CD was produced by Janne Saksa (AMORAL, TURISAS, MYGRAIN, MOKOMA) and was mixed by Tue Madsen (THE HAUNTED, MNEMIC, HATESPHERE).

"How can you say a person is 'hot' or not? Based on (the generic idea of) beauty?
"'Hot,' at least in my world and referred to a person, means someone who can be good looking (according to my personal taste so it doesn't have to be universal) that has an interesting personality as well.
"In my life, I met super-good-looking guys that were as interesting and hot as a clam shell, therefore the 'hot factor' was not there at all, not even a chance.
"So the question (and I wait for your answers to see what you guys think of it, I am very interested) is: how can you know someone's personality if you don't personally know this person and say this human being is hot?
"Can really a static picture only make you think a person is 'hot'?"
"Broken Crown Halo" will be released in North America on April 1 (one day earlier internationally) via Century Media Records. The CD was recorded Italy by producer Jay Baumgardner (P.O.D., SEVENDUST, EVANESCENCE, PAPA ROACH) and engineer Kyle Hoffmann (P.O.D., BUSH, ZEBRAHEAD). The effort was mastered by Howie Weinberg, whose credits include RAMMSTEIN, SOUNDGARDEN, NIRVANA, DEFTONES and SHERYL CROW.

ENDEMISE Release 'Of Death And Forgotten Lore' Lyric Video; 'Edge Of Earth' Live Video Streaming
 Ottawa, Canada based melodic death/black metallers ENDEMISE have released a new lyric video (see below) for the track'Of Death And Forgotten Lore', from their sophomore release Far From the Light, released on November 4th, 3013 worldwide via Maple Metal Records.
The band have also released a live clip, performing 'Edge Of Earth' live in Toronto last December.
Far From The Light was recorded at Pebble Studios, Ottawa and was produced by Mike Bond and Endemise.

THE MOTH GATHERER Offer Unreleased Song Via Facebook
 Unconventionally sounding experimental/progressive trio THE MOTH GATHERER is offering a free download of their unreleased song. The download in question is the band's track from A Bright Celestial Light album sessions, which has not seen the light of day yet - neither on CD nor LP. The song is titled 'Ascend' and can be accessed through "liking" the group's profile at Facebook.
Recently, the band announced a new lineup member, Svante Karlsson (leftmost in the picture below), who will take care of drums and guitars.
With plans to focus on a new record in nearest future, co-founding member Alex Stjernfeldt commented: "Svante joined The Moth Gatherer to complete the lineup and to bring a sonic groove to the drums. Denmark's ROARBACK Release 'Manor Of Hatred' Video
 Roskilde, Denmark-based death/thrash band ROARBACK will release their debut album, Echoes Of Pain, on January 27th via Mighty Music/Target. Their new video, for the track 'Manor Of Hatred', can be seen below.
The band's songs are about hate, pain, violence, death and religion. The tracks will take you through a journey of war, mental illnesses, fights, punishments and pure hate! Roarback does this with a raw and brutal vocal performance supported by some heavy and vigorously drumming combined with fast guitar riffing and dark bass notes. The band takes pride in recording their music with an “old school” touch and with a raw and direct sound. The whole idea is to take metal a step back, to where the sound was pure and straight in your face!

ALPHA TIGER To Release 'Lady Liberty' Single In February
 Saxonia/Germany's ALPHA TIGER start the new year with the release of the 12“ vinyl maxi, titled 'Lady Liberty', on February 28th via vinyl specialist High Roller Records (under exclusive license from Century Media).
The release will be strictly limited to just 500 copies in two different colors and contains three songs. It will be supported by a new video, available two weeks prior to the record release.
Peter Langforth, mastermind of Alpha Tiger, comments on the concept of the EP: "The world is facing dramatic changes. More and more, governments and the people are talking different languages; this rift is being felt in all layers of society. In times where financial powers pull the strings and mass media are used to manipulate, deceive and distract from the real problems, it's getting more and more important that the people express their own interests on the streets.
'Lady Liberty' is our expressive statement against a Big Brother society. The song is full of energy and straight to the point. What remains are our pure emotions and aggressions against this unjust society. The fitting sound was created in the Area 51 studio by Tommy Newton, who gave the song a very powerful mix. The B-Side contains the song 'Men or Machines', originally published on our first album, and completely re-arranged and extended by two minutes. Germany's THOUGHTS FACTORY Sign With Melodic Revolution Records; Lost Album Promo Video Streaming
 Melodic Revolution Records has announced the signing of German prog metal act THOUGHTS FACTORY for their debut release, entitled Lost.
Thoughts Factory are a band influenced by different styles and genres. The five musicians are creating an exciting mixture of metallic sounds in the vein of SYMPHONY X and DREAM THEATER, with gloomy parts like OPETH and incorporating progressive rock elements of TRANSATLANTIC, NEAL MORSE and AYREON all the while keeping it fresh on their debut album Lost.
But Lost is much more than a combination of different influences. The album shows Thoughts Factory as a band with a sophisticated concept that succeeds in expressing their ideas through the music as well as the lyrics. Lost is a concept album that takes the audience on a personal journey through the mental state of one who is left behind. It processes the emotions and questions he has to face after the suicide of a beloved person. The dark parts have their place as well as straight metal riffs, tender keyboard melodies and euphoric orchestal passages which prove the complexity of the topic. The result is a diversified sound spectrum and a unique listening experience which enchains the listener for the whole running time of more than an hour. Heavy grooves, breathtaking melodies and vocal passages as well as virtosic guitar solo parts prove that Lost is not just another ordinary progressive metal album.

OUR LAST ENEMY To Release Pariah Album In March
 It would be almost too easy to classify Australia's OUR LAST ENEMY as an industrial metal band. While that's an accurate description of the band, it's oversimplified, since Our Last Enemy are so much more than the sum of their base parts. Our Last Enemy make music that's akin to a soundtrack or mix tape designed for surviving and navigating an apocalyptic wasteland.
Our Last Enemy steps into the spotlight and offers their brand new album, Pariah, as the aforementioned element, scheduled to hit stores on March 11th via Eclipse Records. For this album, Our Last Enemy relocated to Los Angeles, CA to record with Christian Olde Wolbers, formerly of FEAR FACTORY, a like-minded, kindred spirit. Pariah was recorded at Temple studios, once owned by members of FLEETWOOD MAC and currently co-owned by CYPRESS HILL's B-Real and Raymond Herrera of Fear Factory fame.

Thematically, Pariah has a loose concept threaded throughout. “The Pariah” is this unlucky person who seems to be continually reborn at the center of times crisis or upheaval, whether they are there as witness or catalyst. “The Pariah” appears multiple times throughout the record and some of the tracks are penned from his point of view or from the perspective of those around him.

 Portugal's MORE THAN A THOUSAND recently aligned themselves with New York's eOne Music via their partnership with Good Fight Music. The band's newest, Vol. 5 Lost At Home, will be released February 18th in North America.

Barcelona’s CRISIX Sign With Apostasy Records
 Barcelona-based ultra-thrashers CRISIX have signed with Apostasy Records, becoming the first thrash metal act to join the label's roster. With their 2011 album, The Menace the quintet released a debut full of hard driving riffs and feisty vocals; a cocktail that feeds every pit.
The band's latest, Rise...Then Rest, was mixed and mastered by none other than Erik Rutan (HATE ETERNAL, CANNIBAL CORPSE, MORBID ANGEL). Previously available in Spain only, Apostasy Records will release the album across the UK, Europe and North America. More details to come.

Spain’s WILD To Release EP La Noche Del Pecado On Friday; Features Guest Appearance By STRIKER’s Dan Cleary
 Hailing from Madrid, Spain, WILD recently signed with Sliptrick Records for the release of their latest work La Noche Del Pecado. Produced by Angel Munoz, the maxi-single 'La Noche Del Pecado' will open up for the band's upcoming album. The artwork was created by Dimitar Nikolov. REFLECTIONS Release First Ever Video ‘Vain Words For Empty Minds’
 REFLECTIONS have debuted a brand new music video for their single ‘Vain Words For Empty Minds’.
Directed by DOPE frontman Edsel Dope, this is the band's first music video they've released in their budding career. The single comes from their latest LP, Exi(s)t, released last year. Frontman Jake Foster weighs in on their latest effort, "We couldn't be happier or more excited to release our first music video. A huge thank you to Edsel Dope and the rest of his crew for helping us put this together."
Reflections will hit the road this winter with label-mates CHIMAIRA and FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY on the Celebrate The Chaos tour, which kicks off January 30th at the legendary Palladium in Worcester, Massachusetts. YOB – Catharsis To Be Released As Deluxe Vinyl Edition
 Relapse Records has announced the re-release of YOB's psyche-doom metal classic Catharsis on vinyl. After being out of print on vinyl for over six years, Catharsis has been given the deluxe reissue treatment and will be released the way it was meant to be presented. Remastered from the original tapes by Tad Doyle, the reissue features stunning new artwork by Aaron Edge and brand new liner notes from guitarist / vocalist Mike Scheidt.
Catharsis will see its official vinyl rerelease on March 4th in North America, March 3rd in the UK/World and February 28th in Germany/Benelux/Finland. The vinyl includes a digital download of the full album and is being pressed on four limited color variations including gold, gold with black splatter (available exclusively at Roadburn), clear with black, bone white and gold splatter, and a special swamp green with purple and yellow splatter version that includes a black light poster available exclusively at Relapse.com.

 Original Sound Version is the beyond-complete retrospective of DISCORDANCE AXIS' early years. It contains their debut album, Ulterior, along with the contents of their out of print split releases with Capitalist Casualties, Cosmic Curse, and Hellchild, plus demos, live recordings, and unreleased studio tracks.
There are 69 tracks in all; however, one of those is a live recording that actually contains 16 separate songs, bumping the total number of songs up into the mid-eighties.

SABBATH ASSEMBLY - Quaternity Artwork, Tracklisting, Release Date Revealed
 SABBATH ASSEMBLY returns with their third album, Quaternity, set for international release on March 28th via Svart Records. It will be available on LP, CD, and digital download. The cover and tracklisting for Quaternity are as follows:

What is missing from the Christian concept of “trinity”? Carl Jung suggests that the fourth element is what many reject - the evil in our nature; or by another view, the feminine, which throughout Church history has been equated with evil and duly suppressed. To restore this element to the trinity creates Quaternity, which in William Blake’s Proverbs of Hell represents “the fourfold nature of man and his relationship to the divine.”
Side A of Quaternity the album begins with a look at the four deities worshipped in the theology of the Process Church of the Final Judgment - Christ, Jehovah, Lucifer, and Satan - each tune providing the deity with its own voice, unmediated by Christian prejudice. Lucifer is again the light bearer, Satan the source of primal strength, Jehovah the vengeful destroyer, and Christ the master of death.
Side B explores another four: the horsemen of the apocalypse of Revelations. This intricate, sidelong piece was conceived in anticipation of 12/21/12. For those who got the 7” last year, this is the full 20-minute version.
Quaternity is primarily acoustic in format, with an array of classical percussion and strings creating an entirely new sound for the band. Unlike its predecessors, Restored to One and Ye Are Gods, Sabbath Assembly's Quaternity offers a majority of original material with inspiration from the Process found primarily in the lyrics. One exception is the completely unpublished 'Lucifer', shared with the band over the telephone via former Processian Anthony D’Andrea, who had contacted the band complaining that they were not “getting the hymns right.” Thanks to Mr. D’Andrea, whose rendition can be heard in part at the top of the track.
Quaternity once again features Jamie Myers on vocals and Dave “Xtian” Nuss on percussion. Special guests on the album include Daron Beck of PINKISH BLACK accompanying Jamie on vocals, Kevin Hufnagel of GORGUTS on guitar, Mat McNerney and Marja Kontinnen of HEXVESSEL reciting sacred texts, liturgical chanting by Jessika Kinney of SUNN 0))), bass from Colin Marston of BEHOLD… THE ARCTOPUS, and organ from “Nameless Void” of NEGATIVE PLANE.

JUNIUS Reveal Second Single From Upcoming EP
 Boston post-rockers JUNIUS have revealed the second single, 'Battle In The Sky', from their forthcoming EP, Days Of The Fallen Sun, which can be streamed below.
Scheduled for release on February 18th via Prosthetic Records, Days Of The Fallen Sun was co-produced by the band along with Will Benoit, whose previous work includes Junius' 2011 full-length, Reports From The Threshold Of Death. The EP is described by the band as a prequel to their 2009 release, The Martyrdom Of A Catastrophist, and features four full-length tracks interwoven with hauntingly captivating interludes.
