FEAR FACTORY: Video Footage Of Whisky A Go Go Concert

The official YouTube channel of the legendary West Hollywood, California club Whisky A Go Go has been updated with video footage of FEAR FACTORY performing the song "Martyr" on January 18 as part of the venue's month-long 50th-anniversary celebration. Check it out below.

FEAR FACTORY last month completed touring North America as the support act for MEGADETH. Also appearing on the bill was NONPOINT.

The trek kicked off on November 23, 2013 in St. Paul, Minnesota and concluded on December 19, 2013 in Reno, Nevada.

Asked whose idea it was to perform FEAR FACTORY's classic classic 1995 sophomore album, "Demanufacture", on the band's 2013 Australian tour, Burton C. Bell told The Rockpit: "It was kinda like a joke at first. Last time we were there for 'The Industrialist' on tour, we were playing a lot of tracks from 'Demanufacture', and we just thought, 'Why don't we just play the whole damn record?' and the promoter was, like, 'Oh, that's actually a great idea. We should plan it properly,' and blah blah blah, and just started talking about it. And we thought about it, and it was Australia that embraced FEAR FACTORY wholeheartedly first and so Australia was where we received our first silver and gold records for 'Demanufacture', so we figured that we'd go to Australia."

FEAR FACTORY will also perform "Demanufacture" in its entirety aboard the 2014 edition of the world's biggest heavy metal cruise — 70000 Tons Of Metal — which will sail January 27-31.

FEAR FACTORY's latest album, "The Industrialist", sold 9,300 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 38 on The Billboard 200 chart. The band's previous CD, "Mechanize", opened with 10,000 units back in February 2010 to land at No. 72.

METALLICA To Start Working On New Album 'In A Couple Of Weeks'

METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett tells Billboard.com that the band will start working on the follow-up to 2008's "Death Magnetic" "in a couple of weeks. When we start, that's going to be our main priority, and we're pretty excited about it because we've been saying we need to start working on this album, but we've been procrastinating greatly with it," he says. "We've pretty much come up with every sort of excuse we can not to start work on the album, but we've run out of excuses, so we pretty much have to start work on it now."

According to Hammett, there is no shortage of ideas for METALLICA's next CD, with the guys reportedly having met up twice in the last few months to cook up some tasty riffs in the studio.

"We're a band that never has a shortage of ideas," Hammett says. "You hear about these bands that are sitting in the studio and they don't have any songs, what are they gonna do? That's not METALLICA. METALLICA's problem is the total opposite. We have too many ideas. James [Hetfield, guitar/vocals] has, like, 800 ideas. I have 400. Those number alone are just crazy. That's formidable."

METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich acknowledged in an interview with U.K.'s Kerrang! magazine that the band's next studio album is unlikely to arrive before 2015 at the earliest. The drummer explained: "Obviously, there are a lot of people asking where the next record is. We're going to make another record, but like I said before, we don't really feel this kind of… what's the word? I guess 'responsibility' is probably the right word. We don't feel this inherent responsibility to just churn out records whenever people want them. [Adopts a sarcastic voice] 'I'm sorry! Let me slap myself on the wrists and go make a record for you!' We'll get 'round to it again."

Asked about a possible release date for METALLICA's next CD, Ulrich replied: "Actually, we know the date… no, we don't! If I was betting on this, I would say 2015 — that's where my money is. So if you think of the actual age of this planet, if it's been 75 billion years since dinosaurs walked the Earth or whatever, then one year is basically a blink of an eye, right?"

Ulrich also spoke about METALLICA's mindset going into the songwriting phase for the band's next album. He explained: "The only thing I can tell you is that there seems to be a consensus in the band that [2008's] 'Death Magnetic' was a really good record that we're proud of, that had good legs on it — meaning that it still sounds really rocking five years later. And I can tell you that with most of the previous METALLICA records, I found any faults, I had any issues with them way, way sooner than five years. So the stuff that we've been jamming on is certainly not a million miles removed from where we left off from 'Death Magnetic'. But two years from now, when I sit and talk to you about the new record, it'll probably be a different story from the six-year-old looking for the ice cream shop."

Former MEGADETH Drummer NICK MENZA Collaborates With Polish Guitarist WIDEK

"Ghost Resurrection", the collaboration between former MEGADETH drummer Nick Menza and Widek (Maciej Dawidek), can be seen below. The footage was shot this past Thursday, January 16 at the Soultone Cymbals Studios in Los Angeles, California. Widek is a young guitarist and sound engineer from Poland. He makes instrumental melodic metal varying styles from progressive and ambidjent to metalcore. He does the whole recording, mixing and mastering process by himself in his own studio (Nova Studio and Widek Records). So far, he has released three records: "2010 Songs" (2011), "Multiverse" (2011) and "Aurora Borealis" (2012). Menza is rumored for second collaboration effort with Widek and is expected to be joined by SYMPHONY X bassist Mike LePond and THREAT SIGNAL frontman Jon Howard. "Ghost Resurrection" is the third track off Widek's 2011 release, "Multiverse". Widek's first full-lenght album, "Outside The Universe", is scheduled for a May 2014 release WidekRecords.com.

Asked last September by Argentinean rock journalist Lucas H. Gordon if there is a possibility of him ever doing anything with MEGADETH again, Menza said: "You never know what can happen in the future. It's, like, I'm open to whatever. I would never say, 'I'll never join MEGADETH back up again.' But it's really up to [MEGADETH mainman Dave] Mustaine. I put the ball in his court."

Following the reissue of the entire MEGADETH catalog, Menza was invited to reunite with the band in 2004. Days after a reunion was announced, Menza was fired after rehearsals and replaced with Shawn Drover. Mustaine said that this was because Nick "just wasn't prepared."

Menza has been writing, recording and producing constantly but only releasing sporadic singles for years. That will all change when he opens the floodgates with the upcoming release of his memoir, "Nick Menza: Megalife", by acclaimed writer J. Marshall Craig.

Menza is currently negotiating a publishing deal for the book, which was written over the past couple of years. It features rare and never-before-seen photos of Menza with every band he's ever been in, including, of course, MEGADETH.

"It's a memoir of music," writer Craig said. "But a lot more. It's a book about chasing the ultimate gig, the ultimate drum setup, the ultimate sound and, it will come as no surprise to Nick's fans, the ultimate aliens, government conspiracies and anything else his muse sees fit to lay across his path."

"Nick Menza: Megalife", by J. Marshall Craig, is due in stores, in Kindle and eBook versions, later in the year.

RIOT V Announces Guitarist, Drummer For Upcoming Tour

RIOT V, the new band featuring the surviving members of the most recent lineup of U.S. metal pioneers RIOT, is currently in rehearsals for its upcoming tour of Europe. The band is continuing on in honor of the late great founding RIOT guitarist Mark Reale, who died from complications from Crohn's Disease in early 2012 and these dates are in tribute to the axeman. The musicians decided to continue on in Mark's honor and wishes as well as the blessings from the estate of Reale to keep the music and spirit of RIOT alive.

The continuing members decided to alter the name to RIOT V as the fifth chapter of the band's long history as well as Todd Michael Hall being the fifth singer following Guy Speranza (March 1956 - November 2003), Rhett Forrester (September 1956 – January 1994), Tony Moore and Mike Dimeo in the some 30-odd years of the band's existence.

RIOT V heads to Italy for a string of tribute dates starting in Brescia, Italy, ending in Thessaloniki, Greece, then returning home to start recording the new record slated for a summer 2014 release. The touring band for these tribute dates are longtime members Mike Flyntz (guitar), who has been Reale's guitar partner for over 25 years, and bassist/songwriter Don Van Stavern ("Thundersteel", "Privilege Of Power", "Immortal Soul"), new vocalist Todd Michael Hall (BURNING STARR, REVERENCE) and RIOT's "Army Of One" drummer Frank Gilchriest (VIRGIN STEELE, LIEGE LORD), who will be stepping in as Bobby Jarzombek is fulfilling his duties with FATES WARNING and SEBASTIAN BACH.

Although Reale can never be replaced, RIOT V has recruited former student-turned-teacher at Mike Flyntz's guitar school in Long Island, New York, 26-year-old guitar virtuoso Nick Lee, to handle the lead-guitar duties on the upcoming tour.

Says Flyntz: "I have decided to have guitarist Nick Lee join us on the live shows in Europe.

"The decision whether to add a guitarist or try it myself was very difficult. We did play some shows without Mark when he was sick. Although they went as well as could be expected given the circumstances, I felt it was better for the music to add a second guitarist, as Mark added me in 1989.

"It is very important to me that everyone knows that Nick is not Mark's replacement. Mark Reale can never be replaced. I will be taking on Mark's parts and Nick will be doing most of my parts.

"Nick studied with me weekly from ages 9 to 17.

"Nick has always been a perfectionist and has always poured his heart into his music. He is a great writer and performer. I am very proud of him. He lives and breathes music and is one with his guitar. He has met Mark and saw us play live.

"Nick and I are sitting and practicing in the same room at my school where Mark and I practiced and wrote for 19 years.

"I know there is no one else better matched to come in and help us recreate the RIOT sound. After the first rehearsal, I was convinced that we are doing the right thing by carrying on Mark's music and legacy.

"Mark's dad Tony has been involved and has advised me with every step and in all the decision-making and it has been crucial to us that we have his blessing.

"At our first rehearsal playing our opener 'Narita', I actually shed a tear hearing the song that I had played so many years side by side with Mark, but know the band will shine on in his honor and not disappoint the diehard fans."

DOWNFALL OF GAIA Recap 2013; Seek New Drummer

More than a year has passed since German metallers DOWNFALL OF GAIA released their Metal Blade debut Suffocating In The Swarm Of Cranes.
The band has issued the following update:

"With more than 100 shows played in 2013, last year has been the most intense in the history of this band so far! Three European Tours, a full US Tour, several single shows and festivals! Memories we will keep for a long time. We are still remembering those hot days in desert of New Mexico, on the other side those freezing cold nights in St. Petersburg, Russia. Driving down old Route66 (by mistake) or getting arrested at the border in Finland! We are pretty thankful for all the possibilities, adventures and places we were able to discover in the last couple of months, thankful for all of the amazing people we met around the globe and the new friends we made! Unfortunately intense touring can also have it's bad and exhausting sides and people start to rethink about priorities in life. We also had our ups and downs and as a result of changing priorities we sadly have to announce that Hannes decided to leave the band and focus on other things in life! We respect his decision but we are also 100% willing to continue with a new drummer!

We don't want to lose too many words about it and wish him all the best for his future. To keep things short – From now on we are looking for a new drummer! If someone out there is serious about it - just drop us a line via booking@downfallofgaia.com and we will figure out the rest!

Besides all of that we are still looking forward to 2014 and some great plans that are in the making! Even with all of those circumstances - all planned shows will take place and no show will be cancelled! Feel free to spread the news and the word!"

VICIOUS RUMORS Announces New Lineup, Live Album

San Francisco Bay Area metal veterans VICIOUS RUMORS have announced the addition of singer Nick Holleman and bassist Tilen Hudrap to the group's ranks. They also welcome back Bob Capka on guitar.

Nick, a native of Holland, has a powerful melodic voice with great range and tone. A natural talent with a high-octane stage presence and endless sustain. Nick's performance stunned VICIOUS RUMORS fans old and new during the band's last tour in the USA.

Nick was hired on the spot after VICIOUS RUMORS leader Geoff Thorpe saw a video on YouTube. "I just imagined him singing our songs and it works perfectly," Geoff said. "Once we met and the chemistry was right, I realized I found the right guy for the job."

Tilen is a native of Slovenia. After a series of auditions, Tilen was hired last summer to fill in on tour. The band liked his aggressive playing and monster stage presence so much that he was invited to join the band as a full-time member after his first show in July. Tilen already played two world tours with the band (Europe and USA, 50 shows) and appears in the newest video for the title track off the current album "Electric Punishment".

VICIOUS RUMORS welcomes back Bob Capka, who played on the highly acclaimed "Electric Punishment" CD and has been on three tours in Europe and the USA. Bob brings shredding solos and riffs as well as a hunter's killer attitude to the stage show.

Original members guitar player Geoff Thorpe and drummer Larry Howe have also announced that this killer new lineup has already recorded a live album.

After eighty shows on tour in 2013, the new VICIOUS RUMORS lineup has recorded the massive "Live U to Death 2 American Punishment". VICIOUS RUMORS has captured the power and precision with classics that have never been recorded live: "Towns on Fire", "Worlds And Machines", "Master Mind", "World Church", "You Only Live Twice", to name a few. Thirteen tracks in total. The album was recorded during the "American Punishment Tour" in the United States of America in September/October 2013.

Upcoming VICIOUS RUMORS tours include European summer festivals, a South America tour in September/October and also Australian/New Zealand shows in 2014. VICIOUS RUMORS will also play the 70000 Tons Of Metal festval cruise this year from January 27 until January 31, playing the "Digital Dictator" album in its entirety for the first time ever.

Fan-filmed footage of VICIOUS RUMORS' October 1, 2013 performance at the Webster Hall in New York City can be seen below.

DEN SAAKALDTE To Rerelease All Hail Pessimism On Vinyl; To Record New Album

Norwegian black metallers DEN SAAKALDTE are having a busy schedule ahead. All Hail Pessimism - band's debut album - is finally being released by Agonia Records on February 17th, for the first time in LP format. The band is to enter the studio in February as well, for recording their new album Kapittel II: Faen I Helvete. Kim+Trine (DARKTHRONE, THOU SHALT SUFFER, VED BUENS ENDE, MAYHEM) have taken responsibility of the layout and artwork for this new release. The final street date for Kapittel II: Faen I Helvete is yet to be announced.
All Hail Pessimism will be re-released on 250 limited edition black and colored gatefold 2LP vinyl. First 50 copies come as deep purple vinyl and 200 copies as black vinyl.

The band comments: “When Niklas (SHINING/vocals) decided no longer to continue with the band, many things passed from our minds…even just dropping the whole damn thing off. After the band discussing and coming to the conclusion that all the members wanted Den Saakaldte to continue being active as a way of artistic expression but also as in a lifestyle attitude for us, we decided that certain things had to be put down and start all over again. Agonia Records has been following our ways and sharing our ideas on how things should be, gave us the opportunity to build the foundations for Kapittel II: Faen I Helvete on solid ground. We are looking forward to start with the recordings and we are even more excited to hear soundscapes, having now Eldur (also known as Einar Thorberg who is vocalist also in the band Fortíð) as frontman.”

MY RUIN Reveal Artwork For The Sacred Mood Book; Cover Of ELVIS PRESLEY's 'Trouble' Posted

MY RUIN vocalist Tairrie B. Murphy has checked in with the following update:

"Happy Birthday to The King of Rock & Roll!

In honor of today (January 8th), here is a little teaser from our soon to be released hard cover book about the making of The Sacred Mood.
Since we covered 'Trouble' by ELVIS PRESLEY on our new album, I wanted to recreate a classic photograph from his infamous '68 Comeback Special as an art piece for our new book so I asked the talented Miss Kayleigh Brookes (who designed our album cover with me) to work her magic once again and together we came up with this red lipstick twist!

For those of you who haven't heard the track you can preview and purchase it on this link."

The Sacred Mood by MY RUIN

Vocalist Tairrie B. Murphy and guitar-wielding multi-instrumentalist husband Mick Murphy are featured in a new interview with BW&BK's Carl Begai. An excerpt is available below:

The natural assumption is that The Sacred Mood - rounded out by bassist Luciano Ferrea - is less likely to take a firm hold with the masses compared to A Southern Revelation due to the fact there's a price attached to the music. But, as is the case with any band that boasts a loyal fan base, My Ruin's followers had no problem forking over their beer money even though A Southern Revelation was a freebie.

Mick: "We decided to self release The Sacred Mood via TuneCore, which has made it available worldwide through iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Google Play etc. This way people can find it in a lot of different places and not just on our Bandcamp page. We’re not making music for the masses. We never really have. We make it for ourselves and the fans of band that understand and support what we do. The diehards always show their support; even with the free record we got donations because many people still wanted to pay for it."
Tairrie: "There were fans that made $100 donations for A Southern Revelation, while others donated $6.66 in the name of metal and the devil. We know a writer who used to work for LA Weekly, he was someone we really respected who had interviewed us for a cover story when we won the People’s Choice Award for Best Hard Rock / Metal Artist and heavily supported the band back in the day. He’d moved on from the Weekly and we hadn't heard from him in a few years; suddenly there he was making a massive donation out of the blue. It’s very touching to feel that kind of love and support from friends and fans, new and old. I guess a lot of people liked the DIY aspect of it and I’m sure the back-story of the hell we went through with our ex label pissed a few people off as well. We can't give every record away for free but once in a while certain situations dictate we take alternative routes with our releases. For The Sacred Mood, we simply chose to do it this way and thankfully we have had a positive response."

Go to this location for the complete story.

A behind-the-scenes studio video for the making of The Sacred Mood can be seen below:

ULVER Working On Music For Oslo's The National Theatre

Norway’s celestial dark rock outfit has been and is currently working on music for The National Theatre in Oslo and the production Demoner 2014. The play, a free adaptation of Dostoyevsky's The Possessed, is written by Geir Gulliksen and directed by Runar Hodne.

Says the band: "These themes are familiar to us in many ways, and we are excited to be part of the production."
A theatre description reads as follows:

"As in Dostoyevsky's original, Demoner 2014 is an attempt to understand our age by making visible what we dare not look at. It is right-wing extremism against high culture's chic radicalism. Lifelong faithfulness against sexualized self-fulfillment. Moral reestablishment against the charming cynicism of liberalism. And maybe is it love that impels us all?"

The premiere is set to February 6 and it will play throughout February and March. Tickets here.

UNISONIC - Mandy Meyer And Kosta Zafiriou Discuss Songwriting Process For New Album

The UNISONIC Fan Club has released a mini-interview conducted with Mandy Meyer (guitar) and Kosta Zafiriou (drums) about the songwriting process for the new Unisonic album. An excerpt follows:

Q: Are you planning more Unisonic tour dates apart from festivals, like a real tour, maybe as headliner?

Kosta: "Yes, defintely, but it's all in the planning right now and nothing confirmed yet."
Q: Dennis (Ward, bass) already commented that he wrote several songs for the next Unisonic album and (vocalist Michael) Kiske wrote at least three, did you write anything yet? Can you tell us something about the style?

Mandy: "Until now, I have composed four new song ideas for Unisonic. Each of us adds ideas for melodies, solo parts, middle parts, intros, outros, etc. After the first pre-production session, which has initially taken place in January, we can say that Unisonic was very creative and efficient. We worked at seven new songs in Kofastudio in Karlsdorf. At the end of January the second pre-production session starts, where we will work on another 7-10 songs."

EVANESCENCE's AMY LEE Records Score For Indie Film 'War Story'

EVANESCENCE frontwoman Amy Lee tells MTV News that she has just recorded her first score with composer Dave Eggar for the indie film "War Story", which will premiere later this month at Sundance.

"It's going to surprise my fans. It's not what you'd expect; the film is very dark, very introspective. There's not even a lot of dialogue, which is great, because to me it makes this beautiful, sad platform for music," Lee says. "There's a lot of blending of sounds, a lot of ominous tones. I play a lot of keyboard, and a lot of Taurus pedal. There's a lot of low drones.

"There are moments of playing, and it's musical, but there are a lot of moments where Dave and I just built walls of sounds, out of blaring cellos and trombones and synthesizers and harp, all on top of each other," she continues. "Sort of creating new sounds. It's not, like, a soundtrack. it's an atmosphere."

Lee also says that the experience of scoring a film is one she hopes to replicate again very soon.

"I've been talking about wanting to score forever, and this was my first opportunity to explore that," she says. "Dave and I were already talking about taking a meeting for another film, and I definitely want to work with him again. I'm open-minded. I really like to be in a free place where I'm not boxing myself in; I say that all the time, but that's the goal right now."

Lee is reportedly suing her longtime label, Wind-Up Records, for at least $1.5 million over unpaid royalties and other alleged misdeeds, according to TMZ.com. Lee has also alleged in her lawsuit that the company attempted to sabotage the band's career by assigning them to under-qualified promotion executives who lacked fresh ideas on how to market and promote the group. Asked by MTV News about the lawsuit, Lee said: "I can't say a word, I'm sorry. It's really for the best right now."

TMZ.com did not cite its sources for the report, nor did it obtain any official statements from either the label or Lee, who is seeking over $1.5 million in back royalties.

EVANESCENCE is actually no longer part of the Wind-Up roster. Back in November, Wind-Up sold most of its back catalog to the Bicycle Music Company and Concord Music Group, including the entire catalogs of EVANESCENCE, CREED, SEETHER and others.

EVANESCENCE, whose third, self-titled album debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 when it came out in 2011, has sold 25 million records worldwide.

That last disc came out after a five-year hiatus and Lee told The Pulse Of Radio at the time that she wasn't even sure if she wanted to keep on making rock music. "For me, it had really been such a long time for us coming back after, you know, five years or four years of not doing it, living normal life and not even thinking about EVANESCENCE for a lot of that time, it starts to feel like, is this really still me?" she said. "You know, have I outgrown this thing? Is this going to work anymore? You know. Who am I? [laughs]"

The band toured through mid-2012 in support of the CD, but has been inactive since then.

KVELERTAK Wins Norway's SPELLEMANN Award In 'Metal' Category

Norwegian rockers KVELERTAK were honored in the "Metal" category at the 42nd annual Spellemann awards (the Norwegian equivalent to the Grammy Awards). The largest and oldest Norwegian music awards show was held last night (Saturday, January 18) at Konserthus in Stavanger, Norway and was broadcast live on the Norwegian channel NRK1.

The nominees in the "Metal" category were as follows:

* KVELERTAK - "Meir"* OBLITERATION - "Black Death Horizon"* SATYRICON - "Satyricon"* SHINING - "One One One"

Last year's Spellemann award in the "Metal" category went to NEKROMANTHEON for the band's "Rise, Vulcan Spectre" album.

KVELERTAK's sophomore album, "Meir", topped the official chart in Norway. The CD, which sold 1,800 copies in the United States in its first week of release, was issued on March 26, 2013 via Roadrunner Records. It was produced by CONVERGE's Kurt Ballou and features cover artwork by John Dyer Baizley.

Asked how the band came up with the concept for the "Bruane Brenn" music video, vocalist Erlend Hjelvik told About.com Heavy Metal: "It was Vidar [Landa, guitar] and Marvin's [Nygaard, bass] idea. I guess we didn't have time to be in the video ourselves, so they came up with an idea of having a bunch of kids in the video. A friend of ours, who's a Norwegian movie director, Stian Kristiansen, then kind of developed the idea and made a small story out of it. It turned into a fun and great looking video that fits really well with the lyrics."

Regarding the recording process for "Meir", Erlend said: "I thought it was even more fun than last time. Mostly because we've all gotten more confident and experienced from all the touring we've done on our first album. Also Kurt is an awesome guy to work with; he's professional and has a great ear for what things should sound like."

KVELERTAK is Erlend Hjelvik (vocals), Vidar Landa (guitar), Bjarte Lund Rolland (guitar), Maciek Ofstad (guitars), Marvin Nygaard (bass) and Kjetil Gjermundrød (drums).

Former TOTO Singer FERGIE FREDERIKSEN Dead At 62

Melodic rock singer Dennis Hardy "Fergie" Frederiksen passed away yesterday (January 18) after a lengthy battle with liver cancer. He was 62 years old.

Frederiksen was best known as the former vocalist of TOTO (on the "Isolation" album, released in 1984), as well as his involvement involved in a lot of other outstanding musical projects: TRILLION, LEROUX, FREDERIKSEN/PHILIPS, MECCA, FREDERIKSEN/DENANDER and DAVID LONDON (solo album, under pseudonym). In 1999 he debuted as a solo artist with "Equilibrium", an album which garnered great reviews in Europe and Japan and since then he has been offering quality melodic rock music to his legion of fans.

Frederiksen's last solo album, "Any Given Moment", was released in August 2013 via Frontiers Records.

In June 2010, Frederiksen announced he had been diagnosed with liver cancer. The following months were obviously very difficult for the singer who used music and the recording sessions for the 2011 album "Happiness Is The Road" as a therapy to regain confidence in himself and his strengths.

Fergie said back in 2011: "It was hard doing the sessions [for 'Happiness Is The Road']. I had side effects of the drugs, after the operations and then with the pills I'm taking. I had to stop many days and just go home to bed to try and do it again the next day.

"When I was first diagnosed with cancer, I wanted to stop recording. It didn't feel like I could do it. But my friend Alex Ligertwood said I need to finish it. He was right, of course, and I thank him for the tough love. I am proud that I did."

About one year later, in the summer 2011, Fergie revealed that the cancer was close to being defeated. "I am feeling great right now," Fergie said at the time. "I am close to cancer free. Not what all the doctors thought would happen and they are almost as excited about it as I am. I seem to be an exception to the rule. I am very glad to be, because the alternative sucks big time."

Fergie Frederiksen was also involved in raising awareness of Hepatitis C, a disease he has been struggling with himself. Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is the most common chronic blood-borne infection in the United States. Fergie had arranged benefit shows for the American Liver Foundation, with the cause of fighting Hep C. He went through a successful treatment in 2005, which he was fighting for other patients to receive too.

METALLICA, SLAYER, MACHINE HEAD, EXODUS Members Perform BLACK SABBATH Covers At Benefit Concert (Video)

Members of METALLICA, SLAYER, MACHINE HEAD, TESTAMENT, EXODUS, SUICIDE SILENCE, FORBIDDEN and HIGH ON FIRE performed classic songs by BLACK SABBATH as part of an all-star tribute band that headlined the "Robb Flynn & Friends" benefit concert this past Friday, January 17 at the Oakland Metro Operahouse in Oakland, California. Fan-filmed video footage of the show can be seen below.

FORBIDDEN and SPIRALARMS guitarist Craig Locicero, who co-organized, and also took part in, the event, had the following to say about how the idea for the concert came about: "A good friend of ours and all around great person, Nikki Davis, was in a motorcycle accident with her husband Jeff. Sadly, Jeff died at the scene. Fortunately, Nikki survived but she was unconscious for a few days. She awoke to the daunting reality that her husband, soulmate and best friend had passed away. It was heartbreaking to all of us in the Bay Area scene.

"[MACHINE HEAD guitarist/vocalist] Robb Flynn and I have known Nikki for at least 25 years and she is a huge supporter of the Bay Area's metal and punk scene.

"I wanted to help Nikki out a year ago, but most every band was busy on tour and unavailable. A few weeks ago, I had approached Robb about doing a benefit for Nikki and he thought it was a great idea.

"Robb has gone above and beyond to help bring together something very special and memorable to help Nikki on January 17th. He's been the catalyst for getting this thing off the ground so quickly and Nikki is very thankful.

"We hope to raise enough money to help Nikki continue to get back on her feet because the healing is not finished. She still has medical bills to pay and we want to do anything we can to help our old friend."

For those who could not attend the concert, donations can be made to Nikki's PayPal account at [email protected]

TNT Featuring TONY HARNELL: Fan-Filmed Video Footage Of First Reunion Show

Norwegian/American hard rockers TNT played their first official reunion show with singer Tony Harnell this past Friday, January at Gregers Live in Hamar, Norway. Fan-filmed video footage of the concert can be seen below.

Harnell confirmed his reunion with TNT in October 2013, explaining in a statement: "After much discussion and lots of soul searching, I'm happy to officially announce that I'll be back behind the microphone with TNT.

"I'm very proud of all we accomplished over the years and proud to have written and recorded all those great songs with my brother from another mother, Ronni Le Tekrø.

"Sometimes it's just time to give the fans what they're asking for.

"2014 is the 25th anniversary of the successful 'Intuition' album and we thought it would be a good time to get out and relaunch this little machine for you guys!

"Can't wait to see you all on tour!"

In August 2013, TNT parted ways with its frontman of the past seven years, British vocalist Tony Mills (ex-SHY). He explained in a statement: "Maybe we did 500 shows or something like that, but not many out of Norway.

"It has been the most prolific live period in my career, and when I felt the stagnancy and the lack of desire to grow and develop any further, I knew my time was done with the band.

"I don't think it's sensible to expect new art from the band after thirty years, just a lot of re-living the past and reconstructions of old albums and performances.

"None of us are getting any younger, but I have a great desire to not stop creativity in my life. I hate wasting days and singing songs from the past to satisfy old fans.

"Nostalgia wasn't doing it for me.

"We were never close as friends or anything like that, so there is no great loss, and I have no doubt they will reform the original lineup and just do the whole thing all over again. I wish them good luck on that. I have other releases to come that excite me much more than that."

Harnell rejoined TNT on stage for their 30th-anniversary concert on June 2, 2012 at the Clarion Hotel in Trondheim, Norway. The group performed a special setlist while accompanied by the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra (Trondheim Symfoniorkester). Also making a special appearance with the band was TNT's original singer, Dag Ingebrigtsen.

After leaving TNT in 2006, Harnell was replaced by Mills, who has since appeared on three studio albums from the band: 2007's "The New Territory", 2008's"Atlantis" and 2010's "A Farewell To Arms".

Harnell's final release as a member of TNT was the "Live in Madrid" DVD, which came out in September 2006 via MTM Music. The set, which was filmed on April 1, 2006 in Madrid, Spain, was accompanied by an 82-minute audio CD plus booklet liner notes from Harnell about his work with the group as well as an additional tour documentary by Darren Paltrowitz.

GHOST's 'Infestissumam' Wins P3 GULD Award For 'Best Rock/Metal Album Of The Year'

Swedish occult rockers GHOST were honored with the P3 Guld award (for their criticially acclaimed "Infestissumam" release) from Swedish radio station P3 in "Best Rock/Metal Album Of The Year" category. The winners were announced earlier tonight (Saturday, January 18) during a live awards ceremony broadcast from the Scandinavium in Gothenburg, Sweden.

"Best Rock/Metal Album Of The Year" nominees were as follows:

* CULT OF LUNA - "Vertikal"* GHOST - "Infestissumam" * WATAIN - "The Wild Hunt"* IN SOLITUDE - "Sister"* TIGER BELL - "Don't Wanna Hear About Your Band"

Last year's P3 Guld award in the "Best Rock/Metal Album Of The Year" category went to MESHUGGAH. Also nominated for the "Rock/Metal" award were CRUCIFIED BARBARA, GRAVEYARD, SPIDERS and SWITCH OPENS.

GHOST's sophomore album, "Infestissumam", sold around 14,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 28 on The Billboard 200 chart.

The CD topped the official chart in the group's home country after selling nearly five times as many copies as the No. 2 album, MISS LI's "Wolves".

In an interview with ARTISTdirect, a nameless ghoul from GHOST said about "Infestissumam": "It feels way more theatrical and bombastic. In many ways, 'Infestissumam' is thematically a continuation of where [the debut album] 'Opus Eponymous' began. Whereas a lot of the thematic ideas we have in mind for upcoming albums might differ a little bit and will go in another direction. That's not to say we won't sing about the things we do and not have makeup. I'm just saying it will evolve into other things in the future. On this record, I feel like we're doing a lot of things we intended to do on the first naïvely being we could pull off a show like that at that point — which we couldn't. Now, we have a little bit more muscle. The attendance is probably more in accordance with being able to present a show like that."

Regarding the lyrical themes covered "Infestissumam", the nameless ghoul said: "Thematically we knew the major difference between the first and the second albums as much as we do between the second and the third. It's a bit ironic now. Jumping up to the contemporary controversy with our album artwork and the refusal of printers to print the art is funny because the whole record is about the presence of the devil. Obviously, it's about how mankind relate to the presence of the devil. Historically, it's always been the female body that has taken the fall for that, which is what happened in this case. The problem was a vagina in the art not the inverted crosses."

GHOST was forced to modify its name in the U.S. to GHOST B.C. for "legal reasons."

MORBUS CHRON - Sweven Album Details Revealed

Sweden’s MORBUS CHRON will release their second full-length album, Sweven, on February 24th in Europe and on March 4th in North America via Century Media Records.

After the release of their debut album, Sleepers In The Rift (2011), Morbus Chron conquered new grounds with their A Saunter Through The Shroud MLP in 2012. This 3-track release showed a development that only a few bands dare to achieve. While still being heavily influenced by AUTOPSY, MORBUS CHRON embedded progressive elements in their music, opening up their sound to other musical influences.

With Sweven, Morbus Chron continue to develop their sound, intertwining dark death metal with progressive song structures and melodies that are reminiscent of bands such as ATHEIST, VOIVOD, CORONER and late-DEATH. The end result is still, without a doubt, an extreme metal album, but it’s much more than that. The (often scarcely used) tormented voice of Morbus Chron’s mastermind Robert Andersson, the warm, yet gripping production of Fred Estby (ex-DISMEMBER, DAGGER), the psychedelic harmonies, and the overall complexity of Sweven will set the band apart from the rest. This is not your regular dose of death metal.
Sweven will be released in the following formats:

· Standard CD Jewelcase with 24-page booklet
· Deluxe LP with 180 g vinyl, matte-laminated cover and 12-page booklet in LP size
· Digital download

A limited version on white vinyl will be available at CMdistro.com.

Morbus Chron lineup:

Robert Andersson – guitars, vocals
Edvin Aftonfalk – lead guitars
Dag Landin – bass
Adam Lindmark – drums

RINGS OF SATURN Parts Ways With Drummer; Preparing New Album

Bay Area technical deathcore band, RINGS OF SATURN, recently parted ways with drummer Jesse Beahler. Despite the setback, the band has tapped BLACK TONGUE/INFANT ANNIHILATOR drummer Aaron Kitcher to play on their upcoming new full-length. In an official statement, the band elaborates:
“Our drummer, Jesse Beahler, has made the decision to leave Rings Of Saturn in order to put all his concentration into his other band, BLACK CROWN INITIATE. It was awesome touring with him, and we wish him the best of luck in his future musical endeavors! Despite this unfortunate news, we want to announce that we are officially working on a new record! Because of our drum situation, Aaron Kitcher from Black Tongue and Infant Annihilator has agreed to play drums on our third album. We are super excited about this and feel that his input will really blow people’s minds on our new material. Aaron will not be joining the band because he is already committed to two very active bands. So, we are looking for a touring drummer who can play material from Embryonic Anomaly, Dingir, and will also be down to learn songs from the new record so we can hit the road on tours to support the upcoming release. If you are an epic drummer who is up for this, send some play through videos our way!”

A contract with mainstream label Engima Records ensued, which resulted in follow-up full-length releases "Atomic Arena" (1988) and "State Of Control" (1989). BARREN CROSS remained productive into the Nineties, releasing its first live album on Medusa Records in 1990, "Hotter Than Hell!
