GRAVE: Video Footage Of 25th-Anniversary Concert
Swedish death metal veterans GRAVE celebrated their 25th anniversary as a band with a headlining performance last night (Friday, September 6) at Debaser Medis in Stockholm.
The current lineup of GRAVE — Ola Lindgren (vocals and guitar), Ronnie Bergerstål (drums, ex-CENTINEX), Tobias Cristiansson (bass, ex-DISMEMBER) and Mika Lagrén (guitar, FACEBREAKER) — performed songs from all its albums, as well as "a handful of demo songs and other goodies" from its career. GRAVE also offered the official anniversary ring that was only sold at the 25th-anniversary show.
1988 was the year when GRAVE (originally known as CORPSE) created delightful death symphonies with the release of its first demo, "Sick Disgust Eternal", which was similar to the brutality of NIHILIST and CARNAGE, both of which were launched in Stockholm around the same time. GRAVE — along with ENTOMBED, DISMEMBER and UNLEASHED — has since marched to the forefront of the Swedish death metal scene and continues to be worshipped by metalheads all over the world.
After the concert, the band wrote on its Facebook page: "Huuuuge thanks to each and every one of you who showed up to the anniversary gig last night. We had a kick-ass time entertaining you, although a set this long takes its toll on an old man, hehe.
"We played one track from all of our releases starting with the 'Sick Disgust Eternal' demo up 'til today's most recent release, 'Morbid Ascent'."
GRAVE's setlist for last night's show:
01. Into The Grave (1988 demo version)02. Sexual Mutilation03. Reborn Miscarriage 04. Deformed 05. And Here I Die06. Christi(Ns)Anity07. Soulless08. Worth The Wait09. Rise10. Out Of The Light11. Living The Dead Behind12. 8th Dominion13. Dismembered Mind14. Passion Of The Weak15. Morbid Ascent

TIM 'RIPPER' OWENS: 'I'm Not Sure If LEMMY Will Ever Die'
J. Thorn recently conducted an interview with powerhouse vocalist Tim "Ripper" Owens (DIO DISCIPLES, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH). A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
J. Thorn: What's it like playing in DIO DISCIPLES?
Owens: It's an honor. It's emotional every night. I feel it every time I step on the stage. There's something special about playing with Ronnie's [James Dio] bandmates and I was his friend. Wendy [Dio, Ronnie's widow/manager] is such a great person and Ronnie was a great person, so it feels even more special. It's really an honor to be able to do it.
J. Thorn: News from Wacken [Open Air festival in Germany] and whispers in the heavy metal world indicate that Lemmy [MOTÖRHEAD] is in rapidly declining health. The bands that came from the '70s, like MOTÖRHEAD and JUDAS PRIEST, are getting older. In your opinion, what's the future of heavy metal? Where's it headed?
Owens: Metal is in good hands. It's a shame now, but guys like Lemmy have laid the groundwork. People will always dislike change, but it's still metal. There weren't a lot of bands like PRIEST before PRIEST, and when they started, people probably didn't like them, didn't like that style of music. Bands like IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST, and BLACK SABBATH — they've laid the groundwork for newer bands. Bands like DISTURBED — which I like because I think they have a lot of old-school influences and they're at the top of the charts when they release a record, and it's nice to see that. But I'm not sure if Lemmy will ever die. He's been in "declining health" for about 20 years, right? Lemmy is a machine… But that'll be a sad day. Seems like [Tony] Iommi [BLACK SABBATH guitarit] came back from his cancer scare. I think we'll be alright. These guys have laid the groundwork and every band you see is influenced in some way by Lemmy or these other guys, so we'll be okay.
J. Thorn: Do you think we'll end up with "heavy metal franchising," like Gene Simmons used to talk about? Imagine each city having their own KISS franchise with the KISS seal of approval, playing all the songs people love so that the "band" lives beyond the original members. Is that viable?
Owens: I don't know if we're very far from that now. FOREIGNER was out not too long ago without one original member in the band. But it's hard to say. Bands like MOTÖRHEAD can't continue without Lemmy. Some bands can't continue. With PRIEST, I was able to come in but it still really didn't go on without Rob Halford. It was a different situation. If anybody were to try a "heavy metal franchise," it would definitely be KISS. Nobody would like it, but they would try it, because they just need to put the musicians in make-up and maybe get away with it. I'd go watch it. You already got MINI KISS out there.

METALLICA: New Clips From 'Through The Never' Movie Posted Online
Two newly released clips from "Metallica Through The Never", filmmaker Nimród Antal's captivating 3D movie featuring one of music's most enduring and iconic bands, can be seen below.
IMAX Corporation and Picturehouse have announced that "Metallica Through The Never" will be digitally remastered into the immersive IMAX 3D format and released wide in North America exclusively into IMAX theatres for a one-week engagement starting Friday, September 27. The film will expand into additional theatres on October 4. Starring METALLICA, a cast of thousands of their fans and breakout star Dane DeHaan ("Chronicle", "The Amazing Spider-Man 2"), "Metallica Through The Never" is written and directed by award-winning filmmaker Nimród Antal ("Predators", "Kontroll") and produced by former IMAX film producer Charlotte Huggins ("Journey To The Center Of The Earth"). The film marries groundbreaking footage and editing techniques with a compelling narrative, in which a band crew member (played by DeHaan) is sent out on a mission during METALLICA's roaring live set in front of a sold-out arena. While on this mission, he unexpectedly has his life turned completely upside down. The IMAX 3D release of "Metallica Through The Never" will be digitally remastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience with proprietary IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX's customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.
Speaking to Collider.com, DeHaan stated about "Metallica Through The Never": "It's, in a way, like a 3D concert movie but there's also this narrative that ties together all the footage. It's gonna be, first of all, really rock and roll and really 'METALLICA,' for lack of a better word; they don't hold back at all. But during the concert, I basically go on this trip as a roadie for the band and I pretty much literally have to go through hell and back to take it back to them, and all of this is going on during the concert, so it all ties together really kind of beautifully and uniquely. It's unlike anything that I've ever seen before; it's almost like a concert movie meets 'The Wall' meets METALLICA."
Ulrich cited the 1976 LED ZEPPELIN movie "The Song Remains The Same" as a major influence on "Metallica Through The Never", explaining to Classic Rock, "There are four members in LED ZEPPELIN, four members in METALLICA, it's a full-length movie, and there's a lot in this film that does not take place onstage. The major difference is that the stuff that takes place offstage in the METALLICA movie does not feature any members of METALLICA. It's two separate worlds — a METALLICA show and a story that unfolds in a parallel universe — and at some point they intertwine."
The ZEPPELIN film interspersed concert footage with fantasy sequences starring each member of the group.
The concert sequences for METALLICA's movie were shot in August 2012 at two shows in Vancouver, Canada.

MÖTLEY CRÜE's NIKKI SIXX Encourages Fans To Purchase Full Albums Instead Of Singles
MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx has commented on the growing trend by music consumers of purchasing and downloading individual songs through digital outlets rather than experiencing full-length albums as they were intended to be heard by the artists that created them.
In a post on his Facebook page, Sixx wrote: "When I was scrounging through record shops as a kid, you usually (unless you just shopped for singles) bought the whole album. I always fell deeper in love with the band because 'ALL' their songs spoke to me. Of course, some jumped out at you right away while others grew on you, but you didn't skip any songs; you would listen from top to bottom over and over again.
"When I started making albums, I always believed the WHOLE album was the adventure. Of course, there is the lead single for radio but when did THAT become the whole experience?
"I talk to more and more people every day who tell me they only buy singles now. iTunes hasn't helped for that, of course.
"We have asked them many times to bundle our album as one download so fans wouldn't cherry pick the hits and miss the hidden gems, but it's not part of their business model.
"I love iTunes and buy music almost daily from it, but it still frustrates me. I just wish more people clicked 'BUY ALBUM.' Maybe I am old-fashioned in how I believe music should be listened to, but I refuse to ever buy just a band's single. I always buy the WHOLE album. I encourage you to do the same.
"Technology may have changed, but the fact that a band makes a WHOLE album for you hasn't. Dig deep and I promise you, you will fall deeper in love with the artist than you ever could only listening to one song."
In a 2011 interview with RollingStone.com, MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee spoke about not wanting to make albums anymore. He said: "As far as making new music, I'm sure we will. There's nothing official laid out yet. What I meant was just making records to make records doesn't seem like that's got much of a point anymore, when people don't buy records, they buy singles. Why not make more singles more often than these big, long records over two-, three-, four-year spans? Give the fans more music and better music, like doing EPs. I just think that would be a way better thing. Now, making a full-length record, I think, serves a purpose, like, let's say, when [MÖTLEY CRÜE's] 'The Dirt' [movie] finally gets made. I'd say that totally warrants a full record and soundtrack album. But just to make long-playing records now, I don't know. I've lost my appetite for it, and if you look around at the facts, so has the rest of the world."

Czech Republic-based classical symphonic metal band SYMPHONITY (formerly NEMESIS) has once again tapped CRADLE OF FILTH/MASTERPLAN drummer Martin "Marthus" Skaroupka to lay down the drum tracks on its upcoming album. Celechovsky joined SYMPHONITY in 2004, one year after the release of the band's debut album, "Goddess Of Revenge", which was made available under the band name NEMESIS via Underground Symphony Records.
SYMPHONITY's second album, "Voice From The Silence", was released in 2008 through Limb Music Products.
The band's current lineup includes German vocalist Olaf Hayer, who previously sang on albums from Luca Turilli (RHAPSODY) and DIONYSUS.

NIGHTWISH/REVAMP Singer FLOOR JANSEN To Guest On New MAYAN Album
MAYAN — the band featuring EPICA guitarist/songwriter Mark Jansen alongside Jack Driessen (ex-AFTER FOREVER) and Frank Schiphorst — recently entered the studio to begin recording 11 new songs for its sophomore album, tentatively due in January 2014 via Nuclear Blast Records. The concept for the CD is based on "the current state of the world which is going totally insane," according to a press release. "For example the explosive situation in Syria, governments who constantly accusing each other of lying, spying and using tricks to revoke their own population." As a very special guest, Floor Jansen, singer of both REVAMP and NIGHTWISH, will contribute her enchanting voice.
Says Mark Jansen: "I am very happy with the songs.
"The first album was one big (cool!) experiment, but I have the feeling that the new material is more coherent and in balance.
"The philosophy of MAYAN is to let things happen intuitively and be totally open-minded for each other’s ideas. This resulted in music that I can't stop listening to myself!"
MAYAN's debut album, "Quarterpast", was released in Europe on May 20, 2011 and in North America on July 12, 2011 via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was recorded and mixed by Sascha Paeth (EPICA, KAMELOT).
In an interview with The Great Southern Brainfart, Mark Jansen stated about MAYAN, "It started as just something for fun but soon it grew into something that had to be perfect as well. I thought it was just for fun to make music with old friends but now it's as serious for me as EPICA is. Of course, EPICA remains my priority band and that's the band that's doing the most of the tours but MAYAN will fill in the gaps."
When asked if the MAYAN material is — conceptually and lyrically — similar to EPICA, Mark replied, "Lyrically, you will find a lot of comparisons because it's my style of writing. I didn't attempt to write about completely different stuff. It could have been lyrics for an EPICA CD as well but music-wise it's completely different. It contains way more grunts and it's way more heavy. It is still symphonic because I love that kind of music. It's like a mixture of SYMPHONY X and OPETH style. That kind of direction."
MAYAN is:
* Mark Jansen (EPICA, ex-AFTER FOREVER) – Guitar, Vocals* Jack Driessen (ex-AFTER FOREVER) - Keyboards* Frank Schiphorst - Guitar, Vocals* Rob van der Loo (ex-SUN CAGED, DELAIN) - Bass* Isaac Delahaye (EPICA) - Guitar* Ariën van Weesenbeek (EPICA) - Drums

THE ROLLING STONES
The Rolling Stones and Eagle Rock Entertainment today announce the DVD and Blu-Ray release of The Rolling Stones Sweet Summer Sun – Hyde Park Live. Available from 11 November 2013, Sweet Summer Sun – Hyde Park Live chronicles the Rolling Stones’ historic and triumphant return to London’s Hyde Park with a 2-hour live concert and highlights package including new and unseen backstage footage.
This summer, over 100,000 delirious fans packed into Hyde Park for two spectacular outdoor concerts to see Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood do what they do best. The Stones delivered a five star performance packed full of hits such as ‘Start Me Up’, ‘Brown Sugar’, ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash’, ‘Miss You’, ‘It’s Only Rock ‘N’ Roll’, ‘Gimme Shelter’, ‘Doom And Gloom’ and ‘Sympathy For The Devil’, as well as one or two surprises.
Mick Jagger said: “It was a great gig…It was beautiful with the sun going down over Hyde Park. I can’t think of a better way celebrate the Rolling Stones’ 50 than doing it on our home patch in front of 100,000 people on a glorious summer night…enjoy it… we certainly did.”
Keith Richards commented: “Coming back to Hyde Park was like a full circle being drawn, and the band were in top form. We thought what could be more appropriate than having a great summer in London!”
From the second the Rolling Stones stepped out onto the stage each night, through to the dazzling firework and pyrotechnic display that heralded the end of the concert, fans old and new were treated to a non-stop, hit after hit performance, which took them through the Stones’ huge back catalogue. Keith Richards wowed the crowds by weaving his charismatic guitar licks with Ronnie Wood’s immense solos, Mick Jagger was on spectacular form, his boundless energy on stage matched by a number of stunning outfit changes, and Charlie Watts the unflappable heartbeat of the band, driving the band on through the set.
Former guitarist Mick Taylor – whose live debut with the Stones took place at the original 1969 Hyde Park concert – joined the band on stage to guest on the bluesy ‘Midnight Rambler’ and on closing track ‘Satisfaction’, whilst long-term live band members Lisa Fischer, Darryl Jones, Chuck Leavell, Bernard Fowler, Bobby Keys and Tim Ries all added their inimitable flair and finesse.
The Rolling Stones Sweet Summer Sun – Hyde Park Live is the perfect way for concert-goers to relive their favourite memories from the gigs, and for their fans to see the band back where they truly belong: live on the stage in their hometown.

NOCTURNO CULTO's GIFT OF GODS Coming In October
GIFT OF GODS is the name of a new project from the mind of Nocturno Culto, one half of the legendary Norwegian black metal band DARKTHRONE. For GIFT OF GODS, Nocturno turns his hand to creating pure unbridled heavy metal excellence, taking in a vast array of influences from decades past to concoct a special whirlwind of melodic riffing and headbanging anthems on this 30-minute heavy metal pilgrimage.
Due on October 28 on vinyl and CD via Peaceville Records, "Receive" also features a rendition of "Looking For An Answer", originally written and recorded by the obscure Swedish '80s band UNIVERSE.
A labour of love over several years since its initial inception, GIFT OF GODS sees Nocturno performing all instruments himself and recording the mini-album at his own studio.
"Receive" was mixed and mastered at Enormous Door by Jack Control, who previously worked with Nocturno on DARKTHRONE's "The Underground Resistance" album.
Comments Nocturno: "Finally the mini album is done.
"GIFT OF GODS has been a great ride for me. I don't want this to end now, so I will most likely work on new material.
"Thanks to my partner in crime, K.A. Hubred, we got to rehearse during the last two years.
"What to expect? I have no idea how to describe this, but it's metal, for sure."
"Receive" track listing:

DEVILMENT Featuring CRADLE OF FILTH Singer Recording Debut Album
Ipswich, Suffolk, U.K.-based band DEVILMENT, featuring vocalist Dani "Filth" Davey of British extreme metallers CRADLE OF FILTH, has entered Grindstone Studios with producer Scott Atkins to begin recording its debut album for a 2014 release.
Comments DEVILMENT: "The work reconvenes in a few weeks time after the drum editing is done and this gives both Daniel [Finch, guitar and keyboards] and Colin [Parks, guitar] time to work together on the improvements made working in the studio for a week of sweltering summer country weather.
"Special guests have been alerted to the time frame and the artwork for the album is already well underway, courtesy of resident (evil) artist Jamie Huntley."
A five-minute question-and-answer session with Filth about DEVILMENT can be seen below.
Originally formed by Finch back in late 2011 amidst a bout of religious delirium, DEVILMENT consisted of Simon Dawson (STEVE HARRIS, ex-DEARLY BEHEADED) on drums, Justin Walker (13 CANDLES) on bass and Kieron De-Courci (ex-THE VOICE) on keyboards, with the band experiencing a myriad of problems holding down a stable vocalist.
Enter Daniel's friend Dani Filth, who, "although not entirely stable mentally," agreed to help out on a couple of tracks, which then turned swiftly into a studio demo, completed after Dani finished work on CRADLE's "The Manticore And Other Horrors" album last summer. The demo, known as "Grotescapology", featured eight tracks, which, although psychotically competent, were used solely as a backbone for a new line-up when Simon Dawson suddenly departed to record and tour the Steve Harris BRITISH LION album, and the remaining two members agreed that work and distance were conspiring to keep them from dedicating enough time to the band. Fortunately, at this point, destiny sat on a posturing horse, was proud to usher Nick Johnson (bass), Dan Jackson (guitar) and Aaron Boast (percussion) into the fray, three extremely competent musicians who suddenly grew out of the local music scene, and soon the band was at full steam once more and starting to write as a combined unit.
Thus October 2012 to the present day has proved to be a very productive time for the band, with a further five songs written towards a debut album, as well as the refinement of older material that a new, gelatinous lineup has dictated (plus a fistful of cool covers to boot…).

MINDCAGE Release 'The Human Race' Single; Video To Premier At ProgPower Festival
Kinematic Music, a new division of Kinematic Entertainment, will launch this fall with the September 17th release of Our Own Devices from Florida-based progressive metallers MINDCAGE, mixed and mastered by rock legend Michael Wagener.
Mindcage have released the first single, 'The Human Race'. The video for 'The Human Race' will make its world premiere at ProgPower USA this week, with Kinematic Music sponsoring the event and offering Mindcage exclusives to attendees.
'The Human Race' can be heard on rock and specialty radio across the country, and can be purchased on iTunes.
According to a press release, Our Own Devices is a fantasy storybook set to music. Combining cultural and literary elements of steampunk, dystopian society and futuristic technologies with highly articulate progressive metal music, the album transports the listener to a world broken and needing a hero. That oppressive world is devoid of arts, creativity, light, and ultimately, humanity. But from it springs an enigmatic character, Arabella Vash, who is called to The One Constant, a group of rebels who maintain the history and teachings of the last free society.
The core members of Mindcage - Dietrick Hardwick (writer, guitarist), Brian Howell (bass) and Craig Nudo (drums) - have been connected personally and through music for almost thirty years. The significance of this project, for them, is that a lifelong goal has come to fruition. With the addition of power vocalist Jeff Hignite, the intense and unique synergy of writing and performing became apparent.
Our Own Devices tracklist:
'Cadence March'
'For All Mankind (The Dark Design)'
'Our Own Devices'
'The Human Race'
'At Full Steam'
'Firefly'
'The One Constant'
'Arabella’s Arc'
'The Serenity Sequence (Renaissance Pt. I)'
'The Grand Restoration (Renaissance Pt. II)'
Michael Wagener’s works have sold more than 94 million records. His production and mixing credits include OZZY OSBOURNE, METALLICA, MÖTLEY CRÜE, ALICE COOPER, MEGADETH, DOKKEN, AND OVERKILL. | 0

OBITUARY Preparing To Hit The Road, Enter The Studio
Florida death metal veterans OBITUARY will bring their brutal wares to the stage this fall on a short series of live assaults. The tour begins with a pair of back-to-back shows at Brooklyn, New York's Saint Vitus Bar on October 9 and 10, before flattening nine more venues through October 20.
Having been holed up in their own Redneck Studios the last few weeks penning the follow-up to 2009's punishing "Darkest Day" full-length (2009), OBITUARY's upcoming shows serve as a temporary writing break. Elaborates drummer Donald Tardy: "We have been busting our asses in the studio, having a blast and writing new material. Twelve songs are done and ready to be recorded but we want a monster album for our fans so we are working on a few more to make this record huge! We will continue writing until October when we will take a break from the studio and new music and go destroy the Trois-Rivieres Metalfest with HATEBREED and crush the U.S." OBITUARY tour dates:

The campaign, rooted in an honest desire to produce the next record on their own terms, is in its final week. "We've been creating death metal since 1984," the band comments. "It's who we are...it's in our blood.
"If there's one thing that we've learned touring all these years, it's that OBITUARY fans are among the most loyal and supportive motherfuckers in the world!
"We've been trying to find better ways to engage with and give back to our fans.
"Over the past couple of years, we've streamed concerts live from around the globe, given away tons of merch packages and dozens of all-access backstage passes. It's inspiring to see and share in your excitement about OBITUARY, and the inspiration that provides keeps us going. This is about putting our trust, our music, our career, and our new album in fans' hands! We want to make music for the people who still come out to shows, still sport our gear, and still have a 'Slowly We Rot' cassette in their car." | 0

DREAM THEATER's PETRUCCI Is Open To Sharing Stage With PORTNOY's THE WINERY DOGS
Niclas Müller-Hansen of Sweden's Metalshrine recently conducted an interview with guitarist John Petrucci of progressive metal giants DREAM THEATER. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
Metalshrine: A self-titled album? Was that something that you thought of right away or did it come as you were working on it?
John: Actually, we decided it or brought it up before we ever got into the studio. I had kinda written this proposal up for everybody, outlining what I thought were some of the things that would be cool to try to tackle. Certain engineers and mixers we could use and what kind of album, sound and direction and within that part of it, was the idea, at least to discuss, that it might be a good idea to self-title this one. It wasn't set in stone and if there was something that was just obviously way more fitting to what we were doing, then we were being open-minded. Keeping that in mind, as we started to talk about the kind of album we wanted to make, we had Mike Mangini [drums] there in the room with us and we're writing these songs that were coming out really powerful and very signature of DREAM THEATER, it started making a lot of sense. Then when we had presented it to Roadrunner and our management, and only after hearing four songs, they were all aboard and thought it was the greatest idea. Included in the initial proposal, and again with the possibility that it might change, was the idea of just the way the album cover came out. It would just be the symbol, a very understated confidence and basically not titling it, not having our mind on the cover and only using the symbol, was a bold, strong statement. Kinda like they do in the movies when a new "Superman" is coming out. You see an S and you don't have to say anything else.
Metalshrine: Just using the band name for the album, was that also something to do with it being the first real album with Mangini? Like a fresh start?
John: In a way. It's funny because we've been together for 28 years and one of the things that always bugs me with bands that have been around and have a history, you hear fans going, "Those guys, are they still around?" or they go see them playing live and the band is trying to play a new song and it's, like, "Don't play the new song! Play the old stuff!" I don't want that to ever happen to us. I want us to always reinvent and always having another opportunity to catch people's attention. Sometimes the way it works out is that the first time they heard our band might be this album and they won't even know the back catalog.
Metalshrine: How do you push yourselves and challenge yourselves after all this time?
John: It's kinda part of the fun, to be honest. We take a lot of pride in what we do and when you take a lot of pride in it and you hopefully put that into what you do so there's quality to it. People kinda get used to the fact that you're not just gonna be lazy or complacent or not try hard. It's like when BMW are coming out with cars. If you look at the history of cars, they get better and better. The materials get better and they learn new technology and it's like they're proud of each one, it's a heritage. They're not gonna come out with a shitty car that doesn't work. [laughs] The challenge, as you bring it up, to be creative, is the fun of it. It's like, "What can we do better?" It's kinda cool.
Metalshrine: Is every member in the band replaceable?
John: No, I wouldn't say that. In fact, you don't even wanna think about it. It's a weird thing to think of. It's like one of those competitive slogans: "Everyone's replaceable." I guess it's true in concept, but I think it gets to the point where if a certain combination or a certain person isn't in a certain band, the sound is gone. It depends on each band and who it might be. You don't wanna get too cocky about it, right, because "everyone's replaceable." [laughs]
Metalshrine: Could you see [former DREAM THEATER drummer] Mike Portnoy's band THE WINERY DOGS opening up for DREAM THEATER if he asked you?
John: Yeah. I mean… I said this a long time ago. When you play with somebody for that long, I don't see that you would never see that person again. I can picture us playing a festival or something and we have history involved with all of our ex members. Sounds like a club! [laughs] I think the best thing to do is keep that type of thing friendly. It's just the way to be in life, you know, but the next tour we're doing is just 'An evening with DREAM THEATER," so there are no opening bands.

RUNNING WILD: Audio Snippet Of New Song Available For Streaming
German power metallers RUNNING WILD will release their new album, "Resilient", on October 4 in Germany and October 7 in the rest of Europe via Steamhammer/SPV.
An audio snippet of the song "Bloody Island can be streamed in the YouTUbeRUNNING WILD mainman Rolf "Rock'n'Rolf" Kasparek has come up with twelve storm-proof numbers, ten of which are scheduled for release on the regular CD. Two bonus tracks and a poster will be included on the limited version of the album.
Kasparek was working full throttle on this new album since February 2013. Due to his intense involvement with GIANT X, his band with guitarist Peter Jordan, Rolf had consciously taken a break from RUNNING WILD and has now resumed work with the band with zest and lots of new ideas.
"The break was important and extremely refreshing for me," he explains. "I felt that renewed vigor as soon as I started writing the material for 'Resilient', tracks such as 'Fireheart' and 'Soldiers Of Fortune' just came pouring out of me. The dynamic pace of 'Soldiers Of Fortune' in particular kicked off a whole avalanche of creativity in me."
Rolf explains that "Resilient" is audibly tougher and more compact than its predecessor, "Shadowmaker", clearly enjoying his revived zest. "'Shadowmaker' happened to come about slightly unexpectedly and spontaneously, even for me," he says. "The album has brought back the fun I used to have with RUNNING WILD, and my fans will get to feel this fun when 'Resilient' comes out in October!"
The album's opener, "Soldiers Of Fortune", and the title track, "The Drift" and "Run Riot" will be three typical RUNNING WILD numbers. The most outstanding song on the album, however, is called "Bloody Island", with almost ten minutes playing time one of the longest tracks in RUNNING WILD's career to date. Rolf says: "As a composer, it's, of course, difficult for me to pigeonhole the new material stylistically, but friends who have heard the demo version of 'Bloody Island' claim that it would have fitted in on 'Pile Of Skulls'."
In terms of lyrics, there are the familiar fusillades that we've come to expect from RUNNING WILD: "Bloody Island" and the bonus track "Payola & Shenanigans" see Rock'n'Rolf criticize the curse of greed that we've seen specifically in the European banking crisis of recent years. "Crystal Gold" is about the obviously politically motivated privatization of drinking water, and "Fireheart" and "Run Riot" are warnings to RUNNING WILD's fans to be confident of themselves and vigilant towards authorities. Rolf says: "For me, that's the attitude which stands for that true rock'n'roll feeling."
"Resilient" was produced by Rock'n'Rolf himself, supported by Niki Nowy during the mixing and mastering process, as well as Katharina Nowy and Peter Jordan, who contributed a number of guitar solos. For the first time, Rolf worked with precise vocal lines during the demo recordings.
"The targeted use of lyrics and vocal melodies during the demo stage was new for me, but it worked out really well and I've never gone to the studio as well prepared as I did this time around," he says. "I didn't have to try and test things but only had to put a few finishing touches to my singing at the studio. A definite advantage!"
As to whether RUNNING WILD will present this brilliant album live on stage. Rolf says: "We've had a lot of festival offers for summer 2014, which we will look at carefully. We'll know more in a few months' time and will inform our fans as soon as we've made up our minds."

KORN: 'Never Never' Video Released
The official video for "Never Never", the first single from KORN's upcoming 11th studio album, "The Paradigm Shift", can be seen below. The track arrived online and at radio stations on August 12 and singer Jonathan Davis shared some insight with The Pulse Of Radio into what it's about. "I mean, it's about relationships," he said. "it's about anything. It seems like you try and try to make things work and you repeatedly fail at it. It's just like, throw your hands up in the air and give up, and it's that kind of vibe. I was feeling that towards life, basically."
"The Paradign Shift" is due out on October 8. The follow-up to 2011's "The Path Of Totality" features the return of guitarist Brian "Head" Welch to the lineup after more than eight years away. His last album with the band was 2003's "Take A Look In The Mirror".
Davis told The Pulse Of Radio what the experience was like having Welch back in the studio, making this record extra special. "'Untouchables' used to be my favorite, but this one's mine now," he said. "You know, it's just all those years of work and being able to be in a band this long with the guys. And having Head back bringing, you know, that old chemistry back with him with Munky on the rock side and I was on the electronic side. It was good having the compromise on both sides. It was just good for the creative process, I think."
Other songs on the new set, which was recorded with producer Don Gilmore (LINKIN PARK, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, LACUNA COIL) at Buck Owens' studio in KORN's original hometown Bakersfield and at Los Angeles's famed NRG Recording Studios, "Prey For Me", "Spike In My Veins", "Mass Hysteria", "Paranoid And Aroused" and "Victimized".
The deluxe version of "The Paradigm Shift" will contain two bonus tracks and a 60-minute documentary chronicling Head's return to the band produced by the band's behind-the-scenes "filmographer," Sebastien Paquet.
In 2014, KORN will celebrate its 20th anniversary as recording artists.
Davis also revealed that he is doing just fine after discontinuing the use of anti-anxiety medicine he had been taking for many years.
KORN has unveiled the lineup for its one-day edition of the revived Family Values festival. This year's show, which will take place at the 1st Bank Center in Denver on October 5, will include ASKING ALEXANDRIA, HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD, MACHINE GUN KELLY and BEWARE OF DARKNESS in addition to the headliners.
Davis said in a statement, "We wanted to celebrate our new album release in a big way since Head is back and since this record means so much to us. What better way but to bring back Family Values and the Korn Kage for one big fuckin' special night!"
The Family Values show will take place right in the middle of KORN's upcoming North American tour, which launches on September 26 in Philadelphia.

CARCASS: Entire 'Surgical Steel' Album Available For Streaming
"Surgical Steel", the new album from reactivated British extreme metal pioneers CARCASS, can be streamed in its entirety in the YouTube clip below.
"Surgical Steel" will be released on September 16 in the U.K., September 13 in the rest of Europe and September 17 in North America via Nuclear Blast Records. The effort was produced by Colin Richardson (FEAR FACTORY, MACHINE HEAD, NAPALM DEATH, SLIPKNOT, BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE) and mixed by Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, ACCEPT, EXODUS, ARCH ENEMY).
"Surgical Steel" will be available on several collectible formats, which can now be ordered with or without an exclusive t-shirt design here.
Joining guitarist Bill Steer and bassist/vocalist Jeff Walker in CARCASS' current incarnation are new drummer Dan Wilding (ABORTED, TRIGGER THE BLOODSHED) and guitarist Ben Ash (PIG IRON, DESOLATION, LIQUEFIED SKELETON).
CARCASS' first studio LP since 1996's "Swansong" will feature guest vocals from original sticksman Ken Owen.
In a recent interview with Chile's Radio Futuro, Walker stated about the new CARCASS CD: "We think we've made a good album, so it's gonna be very interesting when people get to hear the record. We can't wait to see what people think."
He continued: "It sounds like CARCASS. Even the drumming sounds like CARCASS. Everything about it… I think it's gonna shock people, how good it is. I think it's got all the elements that people like, yet it still sounds fresh. So that's all I can say, really, 'cause we don't really sound like any other band, and the fact that after 17 years, we wrote music and it still sounds like CARCASS, I think it's good."
Regarding the direction of the forthcoming CARCASS album, Walker previously stated: "We've taken stylistic cues from all the albums because it's in our blood, but it's no rehash or mess of ideas. I think it sounds almost like the missing link between the third and forth albums but with some groove in there. I've jokingly christened some parts 'trad blast' and some 'death sleaze'… don't think for a minute this is just some nostalgic throwback album — we're setting up another 17 years of ideas for other bands to copy and clean up on. [laughs]"

SEPULTURA: First 'Mediator' Album Trailer Available
The first trailer for "The Mediator Between Head And Hands Must Be The Heart", the new album from Brazilian/American metallers SEPULTURA, can be seen below. The CD will be released on October 25 via Nuclear Blast Records. The artwork was created by Brazilian artist Alexandre Wagner, who specializes in charcoal drawing techniques.
Guitarist Andreas Kisser commented on how he discovered the work of Alexandre Wagner. "It was through Silvio Bibika, who was my roadie for a long time," he said. "He always shows me things in general that SEPULTURA might need. Alexandre, who is from Belo Horizonte, Silvio showed me a year ago. So before we went to the United States, to record the album, I was at his house to talk about the cover, tell him the album title, talk about the concept of the film 'Metropolis', so he could do something original. But when I saw the picture with the drawing, I thought it was all about what we wanted and we did not need something new. I asked him to do a tribal S in the style of the cover. The S made by Alexandre will be on the back cover."
Said Alexandre: "I did this series of charcoal drawing work when I still lived in Belo Horizonte. They were all made there. They were quick drawings without much reference, almost an experimentation that may have came from a desire to use the most basic of basic materials — coal, paper and wood. The cover design was already done, Andreas saw it and liked it. We talked a little more and I also sent some other pictures for the booklet. I was pleased with the choice of the theme of the album, I like Fritz Lang very much, and not only 'Metropolis'. 'Dr. Mabuse der Spieler' is a fucking great movie."
As a Mineiro, from Belo Horizonte like SEPULTURA, Alexandre was glad to be part of the band’s history. "It's impossible to be from Belo Horizonte and not know the band," he said. "Some of their albums followed me for a long time, especially 'Chaos A.D.' I remember seeing 'Refuse/Resist' on TV and thinking it was wonderful. It’s really cool to work with the guys, being part of something together. It is somehow a shared history."

01. Trauma Of War02. The Vatican03. Impending Doom04. Manipulation Of Tragedy05. Tsunami06. The Bliss of Ignorants07. Grief08. The Age Of The Atheist09. Obsessed10. Da Lama ao Caos (CHICO SCIENCE & NAÇÃO ZUMBI cover)
Although it was inspired by Fritz Lang's classic 1927 movie "Metropolis", the CD, "The Mediator Between Head And Hands Must Be The Heart" is not a concept album or a soundtrack like its precedessors "Dante XXI" (based on "The Divine Comedy") and "A-Lex" (based on "A Clockwork Orange").
"The Mediator Between The Head And Hands Must Be The Heart" was tracked over a 40-day period at producer Ross Robinson's (KORN, LIMP BIZKIT, SLIPKNOT) studio in Venice, California and is being mixed and mastered by co-producer Steve Evetts, who previously worked with SEPULTURA on the "Nation" (2001), "Revolusongs" (2002) and "Roorback" (2003) albums, in addition to having collaborated with Ross on a number of other projects in the past.
SEPULTURA recorded a total of 14 songs for the follow-up to 2011's "Kairos", including a cover version of DEATH's "Zombie Ritual". The CD will also feature a guest appearance by former SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo. In a recent interview with JacksonGuitars.com, Kisser stated about the direction of the new SEPULTURA album: "I write stuff all the time — riffs or ideas on an acoustic guitar. But we really started working on this album in February of this year, so it was pretty quick. We have Eloy Casagrande as our drummer, and he's 22 years old. The guy's a beast. One of the best drummers I've seen on the planet Earth. He has this metal blood that has so much energy and brings so many possibilities for riffs and stuff like that. It is a SEPULTURA album, but like every SEPULTURA album, there is something different. I think the main difference now is the drummer. It's the first time we've worked in the studio with him. It's been almost two years [since the last album], and it's very exciting."
Asked about SEPULTURA's decision to include a bonus track covering DEATH's "Zombie Ritual", Kisser said: "Without DEATH, there wouldn't be a SEPULTURA — especially in the beginning. The very early albums — like 'Morbid Visions' and 'Schizophrenia' — there's a lot of influence from Chuck Schuldiner and his riffs. You can hear that very clearly in our early music. And we never really had the opportunity or idea to play that. We really play our idols, like BLACK SABBATH or MOTÖRHEAD and some Brazilian stuff, but because we covered so many different bands, I think it was time for this tribute to this great band."
SEPULTURA's upcoming CD will mark the first time the band will have recorded an album outside Brazil since "Against".
The reunion between SEPULTURA and Robinson was first suggested by Monte Conner, the former Roadrunner Records A&R chief who is now the head of Nuclear Blast Entertainment, a U.S. partnership with Nuclear Blast owner Markus Staiger.
Robinson produced SEPULTURA's classic "Roots" album in 1995. Released in February 1996 by Roadrunner, it was the band's last studio album to feature founding member and vocalist Max Cavalera.

METALLICA: Official Video Recap Of Second Shanghai Concert
METALLICA played for the first time ever in China last month, doing two sold-out shows at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai on August 13 and August 14. The first night sold out in record time and faster than any other Western act that has played the country before.
Official video recap of the second Shaghai show — featuring footage of the tuning-room jam and the "Leper Messiah" performance from the concert — can be seen below.
Following are excerpts from METALLICA's August 14 press conference in China (courtesy of Time Out Shanghai).
On filming a documentary in China:
Lars Ulrich (drums): New experiences bring opportunities for new collaborations and new creative endeavours — it's that simple. Being here in this wonderful country and feeling the energy and excitement, the idea came up to celebrate it and to try to document it and to try to get the experience out. As you know, there are a lot of you, and there may be 20,000 of you who came to this arena yesterday and today, so we figured that if we filmed and shared the experience then maybe we could get to more of you and maybe there could be a next-level relationship between METALLICA and China that could last for decades. The idea came up fairly last minute and we love creative endeavours where we make it up as we go along. There's an impulsive energy that comes with that that can be very beautiful and kind of cool and the last few weeks this idea came together of filming here and maybe bringing some local bands into it and bringing some actors in and maybe some way bridging this into the 'Through The Never' movie that we made in the United States. We are making this up as we go along, but it's all being documented — everything we do is always documented — so we're excited about that and we think that there is something cool that will come out of it. Whatever that is, we're not quite sure yet, but we'll do our best to make it shareable and worth everybody's while."
On interaction with Chinese fans:
Ulrich: "We've been doing meet-and-greets and the interactions with the fans have been very emotionally engaged; they're very appreciative and thankful that we're here. Obviously there is a language barrier. What we try to do, we try to loosen the moment with banter and so on and some of that doesn't seem to translate when there's language issues or whatever, but you can feel that there is a passion and that there's been a longing for this moment that is really special. Most of the time, the communication just comes from the audience when you're up on stage. You sense what's going on and what's coming back at you. People all over the world have different ways of expressing and you sort of learn that there is a correlation between the way people express themselves in different cultures to what they throw at you in gigs. In Italy, they're very much like passionate southern Europeans, in Latin America this happens, and in certain Nordic countries, they're a little more conservative. You learn those patterns along the way, but you could obviously sense that this moment had been a long time coming."
On piracy and bootlegged METALLICA goods being sold in China:
Ulrich: "The one thing increasingly that we focus our energies on is trying to discern between what we can control and what we can't control. Increasingly, getting wound up and spending a lot of time on things that you can't control, it's just... I'd rather FaceTime with my kids or do something else. It is what it is. And that's a whole separate conversation about Chinese copyright issues, which maybe is not the time to do now. You can't control that, so you just turn a blind side to it as best you can."
METALLICA is teaming up with SiriusXM radio to bring back the Mandatory Metallica channel and will celebrate with a special show at Harlem's world-famous Apollo Theater in New York City on September 21 that will air live nationwide.
The only other international live date on METALLICA's schedule for the rest of 2013 is September 19 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Next up for METALLICA is the release of the band's 3D movie, "Metallica Through The Never", which arrives in limited release on September 27 before expanding its run on October 4. A soundtrack album arrives on September 24.
The movie is part concert film and part fictional narrative, with the latter centering on a roadie played by Dane DeHaan who must go on a mysterious mission for the band during the course of a live performance.

KILL DEVIL HILL: New Album Title, Cover Artwork Revealed
KILL DEVIL HILL — the band featuring legendary drummer Vinny Appice (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, HEAVEN & HELL) alongside Rex Brown (PANTERA, DOWN) on bass, Mark Zavon (RATT, W.A.S.P., 40 CYCLE HUM) on guitar and Jason "Dewey" Bragg (PISSING RAZORS) on vocals — will release its sophomore album, "Revolution Rise", in North America on October 29 via Century Media Records. The CD was produced by KILL DEVIL HILL and Jeff Pilson (DOKKEN, FOREIGNER, DIO) and was mixed by Jay Ruston (STONE SOUR, ANTHRAX, STEEL PANTHER). The cover artwork was created by Sam Shearon, who has previously worked with ROB ZOMBIE, IRON MAIDEN and FEAR FACTORY, to name just a few. Says Brown of the new album: "This new KILL DEVIL HILL record is definitely one of my favorite moments of my career — it's got balls, great melodies, awesome guitar riffing and a low end that'll set your ass on fire! The album far exceeds our wildest expectations and we can't wait to take this music out on the road and share it with all of our friends and fans. Buckle your seat belts, we're all in for one hell of a ride!"
"Revolution Rise" track listing:
01. No Way Out02. Crown Of Thorns03. Leave It All Behind04. Why05. Wake Up The Dead06. Long Way From Home07. Where Angels Dare To Roam08. Stained Glass Sadness09. Endless Static10. Stealing Days11. Life Goes On
KILL DEVIL HILL will celebrate the new album release with an October 29 party and performance at The Roxy on the Sunset Strip in West Hollywood, California. A fall tour will follow. Speaking to Skinny Music earlier this year, Brown stated about KILL DEVIL HILL's new material: "It's pure, unadulterated, hard, kicking-ass rock and roll, man. That's all I an say about it. It's gonna be amazing. The tapes I have, there's no compression, no EQ off the board. It's just non-stop rock and roll, man. That's all there is to it."
KILL DEVIL HILL's self-titled debut album was released last year via Steamhammer/SPV. The CD landed at position No. 9 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
"Kill Devil Hill" was produced by Warren Riker, who is best known for his work with DOWN, CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, SUBLIME and CATHEDRAL. The effort was made available in a standard CD edition, as an iTunes digital download, and double gatefold LP.
According to drummer Vinny Appice, KILL DEVIL HILL's sound is "like a cross between BLACK SABBATH, ALICE IN CHAINS and a little bit of LED ZEPPELIN thrown in. It's heavy, but with a lot of cool hooks and melodic overtones, too."
KILL DEVIL HILL is:
* Jason "Dewey" Bragg (PISSING RAZORS) - Vocals* Mark Zavon (RATT, W.A.S.P., 40 CYCLE HUM) - Guitar* Rex Brown (DOWN, PANTERA) - Bass* Vinny Appice (HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, DIO) – Drums
