YES: \'Fly From Here\' Album Details Revealed
The most influential and ground-breaking progressive rock 'n' roll band in history, legendary rockers and Grammy Award winners YES, will release their first studio album in a decade, "Fly From Here", on July 1 in Europe and July 12 in North America through Frontiers Records. The group's long-awaited 20th studio LP is the follow up to 2001's "Magnification" and marks the band's reunion with producer Trevor Horn, who helmed YES' chart-topping 1983 album "90125" and also sang for YES on the "Drama" LP in 1980.
YES is Benoit David on vocals (his first studio recording with YES), Steve Howe on guitars/vocals, founder Chris Squire on bass/vocals, Geoff Downes on keyboards and Alan White on drums. Roger Dean, creator of a number of YES' most memorable album covers, also returns with his signature style for "Fly From Here".
"At last we have some shape and dynamics within these tracks that are truer to the
original idea of what a YES recording is about," proclaims Howe.
"The new album represents the best of YES from the '70s and the '80s with a current twist," Squire adds.
All of the songs on "Fly From Here" embody that classic and now iconic YES sound and style. The first single, "We Can Fly", (to be released digitally on June 13) is borne from a piece of music that was written prior to the "Fly" writing sessions — an idea that has now grown into an overture and five subsequent movements that feature the unparalleled musicianship and virtuoso talents that are synonymous with YES. From the first chord of "Fly From Here – Overture" to the last note of the album's closer "Into The Storm", there is no question that the unmistakable technical proficiency of YES carries on.
"It's awesome working with Trevor Horn again; he pays a lot of attention to detail. It was a great pleasure in the studio to play some incredible music with some great players," says White.
First formed in 1968, YES' remarkable career spans over 40 years and the band has time and again redefined the boundaries of rock music.
YES has sold nearly 50 million albums worldwide and continues to stretch the boundaries of progressive art-rock with their symphonic use of sound and innovative musical styles.
This summer, YES will return to the road to bring "Fly From Here" as well as some of their classic hits to their loyal following. European tour dates are scheduled for the fall.

DIO DISCIPLES Rehearsing For Upcoming Tour
DIO DISCIPLES, the new project featuring former DIO members Simon Wright (drums), Craig Goldy (guitar) and Scott Warren (keyboards) alongside bassist James Lomenzo (MEGADETH, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY, WHITE LION) and singers Tim "Ripper" Owens (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, BEYOND FEAR, JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH) and Toby Jepson (LITTLE ANGELS, GUN), will embark on a full U.S. tour in September. Exact cities and dates will be announced soon.
DIO DISCIPLES' European tour will kick off in early June.
Commented Wright: "We are in rehearsal at the moment getting ready to embark on our first European tour.
"It's been very weird and a little emotional getting through the songs without Ronnie. I keep hearing him saying, in my head, 'Let's try that part again,' and 'OK, let's run the set... It helps to remind me that we have to keep playing and get the job done.
"As [Ronnie's wife/manager] Wendy [Dio] said, 'There will never be another Ronnie James Dio.' Absolutely 100 percent right.
"As we know, though, first and foremost Ron was a musician, and loved having a band and the music came first. With that in mind, we all sat down talked and discussed the possibility of doing the DIO DISCIPLES project. The most important point was to be able to bring Ronnie's brilliant songs to the fans and celebrate them in the best way we know how in a live show with all of you. Just as important is that while you read this we are doing this from the heart and for all the right reasons.
"Ron was like a father to me and over the years we became best friends.
"I'm not trying to one-up anybody here; there are lots of people who loved Ron, especially, and, of course, Wendy, but this band is something I feel very strongly about and positive about.
"I wish we didn't have to do this project; I miss Ron every day, but something tells me he would want us to carry on, work hard and continue bringing you, the fans, his music."

SLAYER Frontman To Receive Key To The City In Viña Del Mar, Chile
SLAYER bassist/vocalist Tom Araya, who was born in Viña del Mar, Chile, will return to his birthplace this week receive the key to the city from Mayor Virginia Reginato. This will be Chile's first official recognition of the musician, who left the country when he was five years old and moved to the U.S. with his family.
Viña del Mar is located 74 miles (120 kilometers) northwest of Santiago and 5 miles (8 kilometers) north of Valparaiso on the Pacific Ocean.
This Friday (June 3), SLAYER will play Viña del Mar for the first time.
Araya reportedly remembers very little of his birthplace which he has only visited a couple of times and for a few days. Therefore, he has decided to use his opportunity to spend more time in Viña del Mar and will stay there for several days with his wife and children. He will also celebrate his 50th birthday at Friday's concert, having already ordered a birthday cake which he plans to share with the fans at the show. (Araya officially turns 50 on June 6.)
In a 2005 interview, Araya was asked about the Internet rumors that he and his family left Chile due to political unrest. "No. Actually, it was like '66 when we came over to the States, so that was way before any of that shit started; that happened in '71 and we were already in the Unites States by that time," Tom said.
When asked if he has ever gone back to visit Chile, Araya said, "Yeah, yeah — we went back there around the time right after that happened, like 2 or 3 years later. We flew out to go as a family, and it wasn't bad. It was under a kind of dictatorship, I guess, but I didn't witness anything stupid going on. Everybody obeyed the laws, and that's about it. They have police; they've got riot police just like they do here. And at shows in areas outside the U.S. sometimes the kids get crazy outside the venue, so different countries use different types of… force [laughs] to discipline people. You know, different countries do different things. I saw some of it but it's like, 'Okay, that's how they do stuff here. I don't want to get involved and be in the middle of something I know no business of. [Laughs]"

MEGADETH Working On \'Very, Very Fast Heavy\' New Album
Jon Wiederhorn of Guitar World magazine recently conducted an interview with MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
Guitar World: How do you see the new album as a development from "Endgame"? Will it be heavier, more technical, more melodic?
Mustaine: It's gonna be heavy and not slow heavy like BLACK SABBATH or TROUBLE. It's very, very fast heavy.
Guitar World: How many songs did you write for the new one?
Mustaine: We have 12 songs that we're contracted for this record, and that's all we're doing.
Guitar World: You've been pretty busy touring. When did you have time to write?
Mustaine: Some of the songs are old, some are new. Some were written this morning. Some back in the early stages of my career — songs that weren't previously recorded. It's just a variety of stuff.
Guitar World: This will be your second record with Chris Broderick. You've said in the past his playing reminds you of [ex-MEGADETH guitarist] Marty Friedman, with whom you recorded some of your best albums.
Mustaine: Chris and Marty both have their strengths and weaknesses. We've had great guitar players over the years with MEGADETH, and that's been one constant with us. The guitar-playing ability has been consistently good to excellent. We've had some drummers who are average, and the bass playing has always been good. But Chris and Marty are on a level all their own.
Guitar World: Is it satisfying to be working again with bassist David Ellefson again?
Mustaine: Are you kidding? The guy's great. He doesn't make any mistakes. He's just a well-rounded, mature individual. There were several times during the tour where I looked at him and said, "Who are you?" And I know he thought that was kind of funny, but truth was I really didn't know who he was because he has turned into this amazing person and a smoking bass player. It's the greatest thing ever and now we're all getting along really well.
For more of Guitar World's interview with Dave Mustaine — plus a preview of the upcoming MEGADETH album — check out the August issue of Guitar World magazine, which goes on sale June 28.

ANTHRAX Going Back To \'New York Style And Attitude\' On Upcoming Album
ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante spoke to Revolver magazine about the status of the recording sessions for the band's long-awaited new studio album, "Worship Music", tentatively due in September via Megaforce Records in the U.S. and Nuclear Blast Records in Europe.
"Worship Music", which was originally supposed to be released in 2009 and be the band's first CD with singer Dan Nelson, will mark the first new ANTHRAX recording to feature vocalist Joey Belladonna in 20 years.
"Some of the songs we tweaked, some of the songs we did more than tweak," said drummer Charlie Benante. "Some we started from scratch, and some were written just for this album."
"With Joey singing them, they sound like classic ANTHRAX. The hair on my arms stood up when he started singing them. It was ANTHRAX once again."
Guitarist Scott Ian agreed. "The songs like sound like metal. They sound like ANTHRAX circa 1987 through a 2011 filter."
"I think this record is more of a celebration for us," Benante added. "We haven't had a new record since 2003. The ups and downs in between really reflect the mood of this record. There is a lot of aggression, emotion and power. I feel like this is once again back to our New York style and attitude."
Songtitles set to appear on "Worship Music" include "Fight 'Em 'Til You Can't", "I'm Alive", "Crawl", "The Giant", "Earth On Hell" and "Down Goes The Sun".

Undercover's Paul Cashmere reports:
The BBC has screened video of the last time FREDDIE MERCURY ever performed. Mercury appeared on the BBC and performed a solo version of QUEEN's ‘These Are The Days Of Our Lives’.
The frail looking Freddie is seen in the footage having his make-up applied and checking his appearance before performing the song. Comedian Rhys Thomas had the footage in his archive. He was the co-producer of the documentary Queen: Days Of Our Lives.
Freddie was yet to announce he was suffering from the AIDS virus when the show was filmed. He only announced his disease publically the day before he died. MERCENARY Guitarist Joins MIDNIGHT CHASER
Sven Soderlund, guitarist and vocalist for the legendary '80s thrash band MERCENARY, has joined the San Francisco-based traditional hard rock/heavy metal act MIDNIGHT CHASER as the group's second guitarist.
Commented Soderlund: "I have put the recording of MERCENARY S.F.'s debut release on the backburner for now as a few people have been doing other projects as of late.
"Playing in [MIDNIGHT CHASER] has brought back a lot of cool memories of when I listened to NWOBHM style metal when I was 14! I think that playing in a traditional style metal band has made me appreciate how simplicity in riffs can really be challenging because you're not always keen to it. Playing so fast all the time, you're losing some of the feel to a large degree."
Heavy Artillery Records has announced the signing of San Francisco traditional hard rock and heavy metal purveyors MIDNIGHT CHASER. The band's debut album is tentatively due in February 2011.
Forged in the blast furnaces of Pittsburgh and tempered in the waters of the San Francisco Bay comes a new force in the art of badass; enter MIDNIGHT CHASER! Influenced by the gods of '70s and '80s hard rock and heavy metal, MIDNIGHT CHASER was originally conceived of by guitarist Stephen Lauck and bassist "Texas" Josh Hunt while both still living in Pittsburgh, the Rust Belt of Pennsylvania. However it wasn't until both rockers found themselves relocated to the fog-cloaked Bay Area of California that MIDNIGHT CHASER began to take shape.
First recruiting the steam hammer drumming skills of Brandon Thomas, the pair immediately knew that they had found the missing piece of their rhythm section that they had been searching for. All that was lacking now was a voice that could suitably realize their ambitions. Unsatisfied with the pool of vocal talent in their new surroundings they imported fellow Pittsburgh native Scott Atwood in order to complete the original lineup of MIDNIGHT CHASER. | 0 | |

The readers of Sweden Rock Magazine, the country's biggest-selling music magazine, have voted for the 50 greatest albums released in the past 10 years for the publication's 10-year-anniversary issue. The results show that Sweden is truly IRON MAIDEN country. Not only was "A Matter Of Life And Death" named the greatest album of the last decade, "Dance Of Death" came in at No. 2 and last year's "The Final Frontier" landed at No. 5.
"Wow, that's amazing," says IRON MAIDEN bassist Steve Harris. "There have been polls before where we've had albums in top 20 or top 10, but never before top one and two. Three albums in the top five is outrageous."
The June issue of Sweden Rock Magazine is on sale on June 14. In addition to an exclusive interview with Harris, former DISSECTION guitarist Set Teitan breaks his silence about his time in DISSECTION and on the band's swan song "Reinkaos", which was named ninth greatest album of the past 10 years.

New GOJIRA EP To Feature Guest Appearances By LAMB OF GOD, IN FLAMES, SOULFLY Members
Guitarist/vocalist Joe Duplantier of French extreme/progressive metallers GOJIRA recently spoke to U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine about the band's forthcoming four-song EP, the proceeds from which will benefit Sea Shepherd, an anti-whaling organization.
The new issue of Metal Hammer, which hits the shelves today, comes packaged with a "Razor" CD that contains the new GOJIRA track "Of Blood And Salt" featuring guest appearances by Canadian musician/producer Devin Townsend (STRAPPING YOUNG LAD) and Fredrik Thordendal (MESHUGGAH).
According to Duplantier, the new GOJIRA EP will feature guest appearances by the following musicians:
* Devin Townsend (STRAPPING YOUNG LAD)
* Fredrik Thordendal (MESHUGGAH)
* Randy Blythe (LAMB OF GOD)
* Anders Fridén (IN FLAMES)
* Max Cavalera (SOULFLY, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY, SEPULTURA)
"I decided to ask a few singers from other metal bands if they would help us," Duplantier explained. "They all said yes! So Randy Blythe from LAMB OF GOD is involved. He sings on one song. Max Cavalera is involved, too, and Anders from IN FLAMES. Devin Townsend is also singing on the EP. It's taking a long time to organize but it's gonna be worth it."
The GOJIRA EP is tentatively scheduled for release in September, with a new full new album to follow later.

JON LORD To Compose Music For Henley Festival Youth Orchestra
According to the Henley Standard, former DEEP PURPLE keyboardist Jon Lord will compose a piece of music for the Henley Festival Youth Orchestra.
Lord, a patron of the festival where the 70-piece orchestra will perform his work on Saturday, July 9, he visited the Trinity Primary School in Henley over the weekend to see some of the young musicians rehearsing.
He said: "I was asked to write a little piece for the young performers and I thought that seemed like a great idea."
He added, "I very much liked what I saw [during rehearsal]. To play together in an orchestra well takes many years of practice and these guys are just the first few steps along that road. Some are a little further ahead than others but they will all get there and it's great to see.
"It's the collaborative side of things that is so important. Everyone is playing their part and it's only when they all work together that the best music is made. That's what it's all about, really."

OZZY OSBOURNE On BLACK SABBATH Reunion: \'I\'m Here If They Want To Call Me\'
Gary Graff of Billboard.com recently conducted an interview with legendary heavy metal singer Ozzy Osbourne. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
Billboard.com: How do you feel about the "Blizzard..." and "Diary..." reissues and the box set?
Ozzy Osbourne: They've done a good job, haven't they? To be perfectly honest, my wife (manager Sharon Osbourne) is in the driver's seat with this one. I had approval with what was used. What really surprised me is the quality's so fucking good. I thought we wouldn't have stuff left, and there's a lot. I think it's a fair package. We've done the best we can with it. There's only a limited amount of stuff you can put over that they haven't already got, but we tried to make it as interesting as possible.
Billboard.com: No Ozzfest, but you'll be doing some live shows this summer, yes?
Ozzy Osbourne: I know that I'll do some gigs in Europe and around England for the rest of the tour. I put all my irons in the fire, and whatever turns out the best I go for. I have the great thing of choice now; if I don't want to do something, I don't have to. Maybe I'll do a reunion with BLACK SABBATH; I'm here if they want to call me.
Billboard.com: Could that really happy? Geezer (Butler) has said no way.
Ozzy Osbourne: Well, you know, it's rumbling about. I'm sure eventually somebody will pop the question in a serious manner. I'm having such a good time in my band now, I don't want to go back and have an unhappy time. I'd love to do another great BLACK SABBATH album to say, "Here we are. We can still do what we started out to do." But the longer it goes on, the more pressure it is, 'cause I don't want people to go, "We waited so many years for this and this is all you have to offer?" The pressure's on if you're gonna do that. You really have to be dedicated to what you do. If it's meant to happen, it'll happen; if it's not meant to happen, it won't."
Billboard.com: How do you feel about the new documentary about you that your son, Jack, co-produced?
Ozzy Osbourne: I think he did a very good job. It's very...honest. (chuckles) When Jack said he was gonna do it, I said, "All I want you to do is don't make a film to make me happy. Make a film as you." I didn't say, "I don't like that, take that out." Whatever he felt he wanted to do in, I didn't have anything to do with it whatsoever. I let him decide what to do with it, and it got received exceptionally well.
