MALIGNO: Entire New Album Available For Streaming
 "The Funeral Domine", the third album from Mexican doom rockers MALIGNO, can be streamed in its entirety using the SoundCloud player below. Released on April 29, the CD was recorded by MALIGNO at La Nave studios in Monterrey, Mexico and was mixed at 7hertz Studios in Los Angeles, California with American producer/engineer Billy Anderson (MELVINS, NEUROSIS, CATHEDRAL, SLEEP). The effort was mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music (CONVERGE, HATEBREED, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN) in New Windsor, New York.
"The Funeral Domine" features collaborations with the acclaimed Mexican guitar duo RODRIGO Y GABRIELA and TESTAMENT guitar legend Alex Skolnick.

MALIGNO supported IRON MAIDEN on the Mexican leg of their "The Final Frontier" world tour.
MALIGNO released its second album, "Universevil", on September 1, 2008 in Mexico via Iguana & Asenath Records. The CD was named one of the top ten albums of 2008 by a Latin artist by the Mexican edition of Rolling Stone magazine, and was honored in the "Best Metal Album" category at the Indie-O awards, which recognizes the best of independent music in Mexico.

AMORPHIS - neuer Song \'My Enemy\' online!
 AMORPHIS werden Ihr neues Album The Beginning Of Times" am 25. Mai 2011 veröffentlichen. Der zentrale Charakter der neuen Songs ist der Väinämöinen, der legendäre Held der finnischen Mythologie, dessen Geschichte meisterlich von Texter Pekka Kainulainen erzählt wird. "The Beginning Of Times", so der Titel des neuen Albums, ist das bis dato herausragendste Album der Band – sowohl musikalisch als auch in textlicher Hinsicht. Es wird aus 12 Songs bestehen und 54 Minuten umfassen. Zusätzlich wird die limitierte Erstauflage im edlen Digipack den Bonustrack "Heart's Song" enthalten.
"The Beginning Of Times" wurde von der Band selbst produziert, der Gesang wurde unter Führung von Marco Hietala (NIGHTWISH, TAROT) in dessen Homestudio in Kuopio aufgenommen. Wie auch schon die Vorgänger-Alben, wurde die Scheibe von Mikko Karmila abgemischt. Das Cover zeigt Travis Smith's Interpretation der mythologischen Geburt der Erde aus einem Schellenten-Ei. AMORPHIS werden sich im Juni auf ausgedehnte "The Beginning Of Times"-Tour begeben, die bis weit in das folgende Jahr laufen soll.

MICHAEL KISKE Performs With GAMMA RAY In Bochum
 Former HELLOWEEN and current UNISONIC singer Michael Kiske joined his UNISONIC/ex-HELLOWEEN bandmate and current GAMMA RAY frontman Kai Hansen on stage during GAMMA RAY's April 28, 2011 concert at the Zeche club in Bochum, Germany to perform three songs: "Future World", "A While In Dreamland" and "Time To Break Free".

ARCH ENEMY\'s GOSSOW: We\'re Not A \'Female-Fronted\' Band; We\'re An Extreme Metal Band
 Vocalist Angela Gossow of Swedish/German extreme metallers ARCH ENEMY recently spoke to U.K.'s Terrorizer magazine about her first couple of years as frontwoman of the melodeath heavyweights, as well as offer her thoughts on the tag "female-fronted" and why metal's rebellious nature has always appealed to her.
On the impact that bringing in a female singer had on ARCH ENEMY:
Gossow: "When I joined the band and we made [2001's 'Wages Of Sin'], we initially got some positive responses, but when it was finally released the whole ‘No way, it's a chick!' thing started, because that was actually quite new back then. So we got a lot of attention, media coverage and support through that, and we supported bands like IRON MAIDEN and NILE, and it was just surreal. I didn't think about it much at first, but there was a lot of press that came because of me being a woman. It went in a direction that had me thinking, 'Right, I thought we were emancipated, but now we're back to this thing of there being a chick in a band?' We had to consciously work against that — we'd be regretting it ten years down the line if we became established as 'Angela And The Enemies.'"
On the term "female-fronted metal":
Gossow: "What does it mean? That the singer has tits! [Laughs] It doesn't say anything about the music, or the quality of the musicianship, and that's something that we've always tried to sail around and avoid. It's a bad thing for us, and other bands go well with it and it's okay if they're comfortable with it, but we're not a 'female-fronted' band. We're an extreme metal band, and that's all I want us to be remembered as."
On her kinship with extreme metal itself:
Gossow: "Metal is a type of music that deals a lot with personal freedom and rebellion, thinking for yourself and questioning authority. It's a music that is loud and demands attention, and it's the sound of freedom. That's been my life philosophy in the way that I live my life, and when I joined ARCH ENEMY I made that a reality, because there's nothing more free than being in a band. Metal is the type of music that says, 'Go fuck yourself. This is my life and I have the basic rights to use it.'"

KILL DEVIL HILL Performs Live For First Time; Video Available
 KILL DEVIL HILL — the new band featuring Vinny Appice (HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, DIO) on drums, Rex Brown (DOWN, PANTERA) on bass, Mark Zavon (RATT, W.A.S.P., 40 CYCLE HUM) on guitar and Jason "Dewey" Bragg (PISSING RAZORS) on vocals — made its live debut last night (Friday, April 29) at the Key Club in Hollywood, California. The group played a 30-minute set which was previously described as "an introduction to what's to come!"

KILL DEVIL HILL recently finished demoed around 10 songs, which, according to Appice, sound "like a cross between BLACK SABBATH, ALICE IN CHAINS and a little bit of LED ZEPPELIN thrown in. It's heavy, but with a lot of cool hooks and melodic overtones, too."
The band recently stated in a post on its Facebook page, "Rex has just returned to Texas after a week of writing and recording in L.A. and just playing so goddamn loud with [KILL DEVIL HILL]! This is really kicking ass with a combination of sounds of BLACK SABBATH, ALICE IN CHAINS, and a sprinkle of ZEP. We are going old school meets new, no sample drums here!!" The group added, "Dewey laid down some amazing tracks last night on a killer new demo."

CAVALERA CONSPIRACY Performs With SACRED REICH Drummer In Hollywood
 SACRED REICH drummer Greg Hall filled in for CAVALERA CONSPIRACY's Igor Cavalera at this past Thursday night's (April 28) CC concert at the House Of Blues in Hollywood, California. Igor was unable to make the show due to the fact that he was "stuck in London" as a result of visa issues. Greg joked, "I've had a whole 24 hours to prepare. As Phil [Rind, SACRED REICH bassist/vocalist] always says, 'It will be fine.'"

OZZY OSBOURNE: \'The Pressure Of Doing A New BLACK SABBATH Album Is Enormous\'
 Last week Ozzy Osbourne stopped by the Rolling Stone offices to discuss his new album "Scream", his forthcoming world tour, the death of Ronnie James Dio and the possibility of a BLACK SABBATH reunion (see video below). "I love those guys — Bill [Ward, drums], Tony [Iommi, guitar] and Geezer [Butler, bass]," he told Rolling Stone about a possible return to SABBATH. "I never say never anymore because you never know what's going to come around."
"I'm willing," Osbourne added. "But there are three other guys as well. It goes backwards and forwards. One day this, one day that. I'm up for it. But we'll see. If it's meant to happen, it'll happen."
Osbourne did admit that the prospect of the reunion is a little daunting. "The pressure of doing a new BLACK SABBATH album is enormous, and for it to be as good as what we did back then," he said. "It's been 30 years since we actually sat down and tried to write together, and we've all changed so much. I know I have."
Osbourne told VH1 Radio Networks' Dave Basner last week that the chances of another reunion of the original BLACK SABBATH seem more remote with each passing day. Ozzy explained, "To be honest, I don't think we all can physically do it. I'm up for it, I keep fit every day. I can't speak for the others. I mean, I've spoken to Tony Iommi, I speak to Bill from time to time. I haven't spoken to Geezer for a while, but if it's meant to happen, it'll happen."
Butler recently released a statement via his official web site in which he made it clear that "there will be definitely NO reunion of all four original members of BLACK SABBATH, whether to record an album or to tour."
Although Ozzy and Iommi had some legal issues in recent years over the use of the BLACK SABBATH name, that was all settled in 2010. Ozzy told The Pulse Of Radio at the time that he was still open to the idea of a reunion. "Well, I never say never," he said. "I mean, I've got a few ideas, but we'll see what happens, you know. We did try and do another album, but we've all changed so much and it's — if you don't do an album that blows the doors off the last one that we did together, then it's gonna be looked upon as a joke, you know."

JASON BONHAM Teams Up With NICOLE SCHERZINGER For \'Black Dog\' Cover
 ESPN and ABC have produced a special opening video for 2011 NBA Playoff coverage airing across the networks featuring Nicole Scherzinger and Jason Bonham performing LED ZEPPELIN's iconic "Black Dog". The clip debuted Saturday, April 16 for the start of the playoffs on ESPN and ABC and can be seen below.
"We strived to create an open which captured the energy and excitement of the NBA Playoffs," said Tim Corrigan, ESPN senior coordinating producer. "This legendary track, performed by artists such as Jason and Nicole, was the perfect fit."
"It was an honor to join Jason Bonham on the iconic LED ZEPPELIN song 'Black Dog'," Nicole commented. "I am excited that fans will be able to see the video during the Playoffs."
"Working with Nicole for the NBA Playoffs spot was amazing. She is the real deal," said Bonham. "Not only is she one of the most beautiful people I have ever met, but she has a fantastic and powerful voice. She has a great rock voice and it worked out fantastic for 'Black Dog'. I was so pleased to be able to bring this song to such a huge sporting event."
Production credits include: David Saltz, executive producer for ESPN Music, creating the original concept; Valerie Fischler, ESPN producer and creative director; Steven Levy, with Habana Avenue, as producer; and Michael Amoia, with Vidiots, handling post-production edits.
Jason Bonham is a British drummer and son of legendary LED ZEPPELIN drummer John Bonham. At the age of only five, Jason could play the drums with skill. When he was 17, he was a member of the band AIR RACE. The group signed a record contract with Atlantic Records, and opened for big names like QUEEN, MEAT LOAF, TED NUGENT, and AC/DC. John Bonham died in 1980, but Jason has stepped in from time to time to help keep his father's memory alive.
On December 10, 2007, Jason played drums in one of the most anticipated concerts of all time — the LED ZEPPELIN reunion at London's O2 arena. His current projects include touring with Paul Rodgers, his supergroup BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION, which features Joe Bonamassa, Glenn Hughes and Derek Sherinian. They will tour their second album this summer, but not before Jason takes his critically-acclaimed LED ZEPPELIN EXPERIENCE tour out for a second run in May.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH Officially Confirms Bassist\'s Exit
 According to The Pulse Of Radio, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH has given a statement to "Harddrive Radio" about the departure of bassist Matt Snell at the end of last year. Guitarist Zoltan Bathory confirmed that Snell was let go back in December, but also told "Harddrive Radio" why it wasn't made official until now and why he can't speak about the reason for Snell's exit. "You know, we want to concentrate on our record, and that's the most important right now, the third record, so that's why it wasn't really like publicly available information," he said. "As for reasons, we have contracts between each other and the contracts that we have between each other always protect the band members. Like we have a contract with Matt, you know. Word by word the contract says I can't tell you anything that would hurt his career if he goes any further."
In a separate statement to Gun Shy Assassin, Bathory had the following to say about Snell's exit: "We let him go a long time ago… way back in December, actually. We have been recording our third album since January and as you can imagine the band is in lockdown mode in the studio 24/7 writing and recording. No time for extracurricular distractions so we decided to keep it under wraps for now.
"This kind of stuff usually becomes a damn circus which we really didn't want to be bothered with during the recording process. Somebody leaked it against the band's wishes, [and] that's why all kind of semi-retarded rumors are spreading, I guess.
"I can't follow this shit, man — we have better things to do and especially right now we are busy as hell… but you know how this works; everyone can run their mouth on the Internet and state whatever they want you to believe. In this case, most stuff you'll find is probably false since we didn't make any sort of public statement, so whatever you hear is only a speculation.
"To put this to sleep for now, I'll answer this: yes, he was fired… but there's nothing else to announce, really. We'll deal with replacing him when we finish the record and have time to focus on that. As for the sound of the band, and the recording process, etc. — Matt wasn't a writing member so it doesn't change anything. The process is the same as it always was."

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE TOM MORELLO To Release 'Union Town' EP
 According to The Pulse Of Radio, RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist Tom Morello will release a new EP, "Union Town", digitally on May 17 and as a CD and vinyl album on July 19. All profits from "Union Town" will benefit The America Votes Labor Unity Fund via SaveWorkers.org. The disc consists of eight pro-union songs, with Morello saying in a statement, "Unions are a crucial counterweight to the raw corporate greed that torpedoed our economy, threatens our environment and wants to strip away decades of social progress."
Morello played at pro-union rallies in Madison, Wisconsin this past February, where Governor Scott Walker put forward an anti-union bill passed by Republicans.
The title track from the "Union Town" EP is available now at SaveWorkers.org.
Morello will release his third folk-oriented album under the THE NIGHTWATCHMAN name, "World Wide Rebel Songs", late summer via New West Records.
THE NIGHTWATCHMAN is a band name Morello used for two previous solo albums — 2007's "One Man Revolution" and 2008's "The Fabled City".
Morello explained a while back the origin of THE NIGHTWATCHMAN moniker, which started when he first began performing his protest songs in coffeehouses. "I would sign up anonymously, you know," he said. "I didn't want to sign up as Tom Morello and have people, you know, between their mochaccinos clamoring for 'Bulls On Parade'. So I signed up as THE NIGHTWATCHMAN, and it was a moniker that seemed to fit the music that I was writing and playing, and it stuck."
Tom Morello is a founding member and guitarist of the rock bands RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE and AUDIOSLAVE. The two bands are responsible for multiple Grammy Awards and a combined 30 million albums sold worldwide. Morello has also received critical acclaim as a solo artist known as THE NIGHTWATCHMAN. Widely celebrated for his unique voice as a master electric guitarist, he is recognized by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the "100 Greatest Guitar Players of All-Time" (#26). He is also one of only two guitarists featured as a playable animated character in the overwhelmingly popular Activision video game Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock.
Tom Morello graduated from Harvard University with honors as a political science major and has been a widely recognized political activist throughout his career. With SYSTEM OF A DOWN's Serj Tankian, Morello formed Axis of Justice, an organization whose purpose is to bring together musicians, music fans, and grassroots political organizations to fight for social justice.

DEEDS OF FLESH Announces New Lineup
 California extreme metallers DEEDS OF FLESH have parted ways with guitarist Sean Southern due to "personal reasons" and have replaced him with Craig Peters (ARKAIK).
Commented the band: "Craig is one of the top lead guitarist in the metal scene today in our opinion and has already been contributing in the writing process for [the ninth DEEDS OF FLESH album] 'Portal To Canaan'. He also will add another element by doing back-up vocals. We also added vocalist and fifth member, Corey Athos (FLESH CONSUMED) to the lineup and will now be bringing a three-person vocal assault to our sound adding a ton of range. Corey will be doing majority of the vocals but Craig and Erik will be much involved. We had Corey replace the original vocals on a couple songs off 'Of What's To Come' as well as a couple older tracks and they were perfect. We are all very excited to be working together and are anxious to get into the studio this summer to start recording 'Portals To Canaan', proceeded by DEEDS getting back out on the road."

ARCH ENEMY: First \'Khaos Legions\' Trailer Released
 The first trailer for "Khaos Legions", the new album from Swedish/German extreme metallers ARCH ENEMY, can be viewed below. Due on May 30 in Europe and June 7 in the U.S. via Century Media Records, the CD will mark the band's return to new, original material, after the release of the "Tyrants Of The Rising Sun - Live In Japan" live DVD/CD (2008) and the re-recordings album, "The Root Of All Evil" (2009). The effort was tracked at Sweet Spot Studio in the south of Sweden with engineer Rickard Bengtsson (who produced 2005's "Doomsday Machine").

French states, "The Pinkburst Project was my way of calling attention to the virtually unknown disease called uveitis. In a world of cookie-cutter fundraisers, I wanted to do something that was different and really exciting, something that would get lots of attention with collectors of musical instruments, something never done before (and probably never again) and something that could hopefully raise a lot of money."
French commissioned the custom shops of the world's top guitar electric makers to replicate the color and style of his pink sunburst Gibson Les Paul. To anyone even remotely involved with this industry, this dream would seem completely unrealistic as all these companies are highly competitive and many have even sued each other over the slightest attempt at copying anything that the other was doing.

AC/DC: \'TNT\' Preview Clip From \'Live At River Plate\' Posted Online
 AC/DC "Live At River Plate", a definitive live concert DVD documenting AC/DC's massive "Black Ice" world tour, will be available for purchase on Tuesday, May 10. Shot in December 2009, "Live At River Plate" marks AC/DC's triumphant return to Buenos Aires where nearly 200,000 fans, over three sold-out shows, welcomed the band back after a 13-year absence from Argentina. This stunning live footage of AC/DC underscores what Argentina's Pagina 12 newspaper reported by saying "no one is on the same level when it comes to pure and clear rock 'n' roll." Directed by David Mallet and produced by Rocky Oldham, "Live At River Plate" was shot with 32 cameras entirely in HD. NOCTEM: \'Oblivion\' Trailer Available
 Spanish black/death metallers NOCTEM will release their sophomore album, "Oblivion", on June 13 via Rising Records. A "signed limited tour edition" of the CD will be made available in Spain on May 24.
The follow-up to 2009's "Divinity", "Oblivion" was recorded at Ultrasound Studios 2 in Portugal with producer Daniel Cardoso (ANGELUS APATRIDA, AVA INFERI, ANNEKE VAN GIERSBERGEN) and features cover artwork by by Marcelo Vasco, the Brazilian designer who previously worked on "Divinity" as well as with bands like DIMMU BORGIR, DARK FUNERAL, SATYRICON, BELPHEGOR, GORGOROTH and many more.
According to a press release, the second part of the trilogy that started with "Divinity" will be "the hardest, fastest and darkest opus from NOCTEM to date." The CD will be a "logical progression of the last album, full of new nuances and based in a darker sound and a more complex composition."

THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER: New Song Available For Streaming
 Michigan's unstoppable sons of molten melodic death metal THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER will release their new album, "Ritual", in Europe on June 17 and in North America on June 21 via Metal Blade Records. The effort will also be available as a box set, limited to 2,000 units including special, exclusive digibook, witch board, magic wand, sage, incense sticks and coffin nails. The CD was once again be produced by Mark Lewis (TRIVIUM, BURY YOUR DEAD, DEICIDE), who also worked on 2009's "Deflorate"
Frontman Trevor Strnad considers "Ritual" "the most focused THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER strike of all time."
"The whole thread of the songs is more tied together than ever before," explains Strnad. "Part of it was kind of like, 'What can we do that's the most BLACK DAHLIA MURDER thing? What's going to be the most quintessential BLACK DAHLIA MURDER thing we can do?' That's kind of what we set our foothold in. And 'Ritual', it just lends itself to that — it's mysticism and magic and all of that. Everyone has an association with some kind of ritual, so we just thought it was the next logical step."
Recalling the writing process that led to "Ritual"'s eventual 12 songs, Strnad says that "every song that got brought forth was exciting and more three-dimensional, more twists and turns, more surprises. There's more ups and downs and taking people on a journey this time."
Co-founder Brian Eschbach, meanwhile, credits the presence of fellow guitarist Ryan Knight, who joined the band for "Deflorate", with helping to move things forward on this particular venture.
"It's been more collaborative than it's been in years," Eschbach notes. "The last two albums ('Deflorate' and 2007's 'Nocturnal') I wrote most of the music, and this one it's almost a 50-50 effort between me and (Knight). He lifted what we were doing on the last album so much from what we've done before, his different techniques and stylings that he knows how to wield. It's really exciting for us to have that be part of the band now." Strnad adds that Knight "is an educated musician, and he's brought that kind of aspect into the band, too. We came to him having higher expectations, and he's exceeded all of those."
THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER has crammed quite a bit into its 10 years together — five albums, three EPs and a DVD (2009's "Majesty") — and the group members themselves seem a bit surprised by what they've wrought. "Yeah, initially we thought we were going to get together on Sundays and try to put a song together every week," Eschbach recalls. "We never dreamed of being able to live off the band." But Strnad says it didn't take long to sense that they could.
"We had the vision that we wanted to take the band to more people, that we wanted to have something bigger than just playing at the crappy ass local bar," he explains. "Being a metal band, I think, is being an underdog. To play music you know is not digestible on purpose, to preach to a certain kind of depraved person...It's a lofty goal to have anyone want to hear what we have to say. We've been really, really lucky, but at the same time we're always looking to the future and trying to do what we do better and better.
"And I would say this time, with 'Ritual', we really nailed it even harder than we have before."

PAGAN\'S MIND: \'Intermission\' Video Released
 "Intermission", the new video from Norwegian melodic power metallers PAGAN'S MIND, can be viewed below (courtesy of Metal Injection). THE POODLES\' \'Performocracy\' Tops Swedish Chart
 "Performocracy", the fourth album from Swedish hard rockers THE POODLES, has entered the official chart in the band's home country at position No. 1. Released on April 15 in Europe (May 5 in North America) via Frontiers Records, the CD was again produced by Mats Valentin, but this time Tobias Lindell (EUROPE, MUSTASCH) mixed the 12 outstanding tracks that make up the effort.

DISTURBED To Sell Previously Unreleased Song To Benefit \'West Memphis Three\'
 Beginning today, Chicago-based hard rock band DISTURBED will make available for sale a previously unreleased song, entitled "3". at its official web site, Disturbed1.com. All proceeds from the sale of the track, which is available for $0.99, will go to benefit the Damien Echols Defense Fund, which pays for legal fees, forensic testing, and investigative fees for the three men known as the West Memphis Three who were unjustly convicted of murder in Arkansas in 1994. The Free The WM3 Support Fund is group of private individuals who strongly believe that Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley are serving prison terms for murders they did not commit.

JOEY JORDISON: SLIPKNOT Will Carry On \'With Or Without\' COREY TAYLOR
 SLIPKNOT drummer Joey Jordison told the Artisan News Service in an interview on the "black carpet" at last week's Revolver Golden Gods Awards in Los Angeles (see video below) that the band will carry on "with or without" singer Corey Taylor, who has expressed ambivalence about making another album with the group.
SLIPKNOT's upcoming European festival shows will be the band's first since the death last May of bassist Paul Gray, and Jordison explained, "Honestly, those are gonna be some of the most amazing shows. And I think certain people will wise up after that."
When asked if he was concerned that Taylor has admitted in recent interviews that he was still unsure that going back out and performing live without Gray is the right thing to do, Jordison said, "You know what?! That's for him to answer. As far as I'm concerned, SLIPKNOT's my baby and I have a bunch of [new] songs written. And I'm in rehearsal right now with all the guys and it's completely on fire. Donnie's [Steele, a guitarist from an early lineup of SLIPKNOT who will act as the band's touring bassist for the upcoming shows] doing a great job. And as far as SLIPKNOT's concerned, it'll always exist — with [Corey] or without him. So that's it."
Percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan, also interviewed at the event, said about the upcoming concerts, "I'll be in tears before I even hit the first stair. And I need it very much — and we need it. So I'm looking forward to it, but it's gonna be very hard."
As for whether they see another SLIPKNOT album in their future, Crahan said, "Do I want another SLIPKNOT record? Absolutely. I'm not a fortune teller, so I can't promise anybody anything . . . Do I want one? Yes. Do I know (if that will happen)? I don't know."
