SLIPKNOT Drummer Says Playing This Summer\'s Shows Will Be \'The Ultimate Triumph\'
SLIPKNOT drummer Joey Jordison has told Kerrang! magazine that fans will get an unforgettable show when the band returns to the stage this summer to play its first concerts since the passing of SLIPKNOT bassist Paul Gray.
"[These shows] will be the ultimate triumph," he promised. "I have fucking piss and venom in my fucking veins right now. I'm already just thinking about... when we step onto that fucking stage, the eight of us... I don't even know if we're gonna make it through one song. We might destroy everything.
"It's going to be bizarre. I think, honestly, Paul's with us in spirit... It's going to be a really, really explosive show. It's gonna be good for all of us... I think Sonisphere [festival in the U.K.] is going to be an exorcism.
"I think the best thing is to put Paul finally to rest, he wants to see us fucking rock. Once we do that, we'll be at peace and everything can continue from there."

STEELWING Guitarist Pays Tribute To GARY MOORE
Guitarist Robby Rockbag of Swedish metallers STEELWING has released the following statement regarding the passing of former THIN LIZZY guitarist, noted session player, and blues rock icon Gary Moore:
"Gary Moore was undoubtedly the greatest guitar player who ever lived.
"I would like to take a moment and say a few words.
"I was first introduced to Gary Moore's playing when I was about fifteen years old. I had just started playing guitar when I discovered his 'Wild Frontier' album. I was immediately hooked on his style of playing and, without knowing it, I had discovered my most important guitar hero and a source of inspiration for years to come.
"What separated Gary from countless other great guitarists was something which can only be referred to as 'fire.' Often emulated but never truly copied, many have tried and even more have failed to match his ferocity. Of course, Gary was incredibly diverse. He could make his guitar sing, cry and scream, all depending on what the particular song needed.
"Each solo would be a journey. A melodic start (he had a superb sense of melody), followed by a fast passage building up to a beautiful climax.
"Diversity is what truly separates good from great. Incredibly delicate, beautiful melodic playing, coupled with blinding technique is part of what makes Gary Moore not only great but outright legendary.
"He left a massive imprint in rock history and will be missed by millions.
"I can find some relief in the fact that I was lucky enough to see Gary perform some of his most beloved songs last year at Sweden Rock Festival. He played a few new Celtic rock songs which made me incredibly excited about the new rock album we was working on. We can only hope that the album will see the light of day.
"Gary, may you rest in peace. You and Phil [Lynott] must be having one hell of a jam right now..." | 0

NILE\'s KARL SANDERS To Guest On NERVECELL Album
Guitarist/vocalist Karl Sanders of South Carolina-based extreme technical death metallers NILE makes a guest appearance on vocals on the song "Shunq (To The Despaired…King Of Darkness)" from Dubai, United Arab Emirates-based death/thrash metallers NERVECELL. The track will appear on NERVECELL's new album, "Psychogenocide", which is scheduled for release on March 31 in the Middle East via Spellbind Records; on April 29 in Germany, Austria, Switzerland; and on May 2 in the rest of Europe through Lifeforce Records.
Commented NERVECELL: "This particular song is special to the band as it will mark the first extreme metal track ever to include both Arabic lyrics mixed in with English lyrics, and who better else to have come on board and collaborate on this theme with us than the legendary Karl Sanders!
"The word 'Shunq' in Arabic has two meanings: to choke or to be hung by the neck. The song consists mainly of ideas and knowledge gathered from sources that speak about Lucifer and the demons that serve him. The song 'Shunq (To The Despaired…King Of Darkness)' speaks about the battle of us humans and these demons in reality, in the end Satan himself brought forth to justice."
The "Psychogenocide" cover artwork was designed by Björn Goosses of Killustrations (ABORTED, SEVERE TORTURE, ZYKLON) and is a concept which NERVECELL has been working on for quite a while. The band is said to be "extremely proud of how it has turned out" as it "perfectly matches the aggression and musical direction of the new album."
"Psychogenocide" track listing:
01. Anemic Assurgency
02. Upon An Epidemic Scheme
03. All Eyes On Them
04. Amok Doctrine
05. Psychogenocide
06. Imprint
07. Shunq (To The Despaired… King Of Darkness)
08. The Taste Of Betrayal
09. Driven By Nescience
10. Nation's Plague
Released in April 2008 in the Middle East (via Spellbind Records), "Preaching Venom" featured PSYCROPTIC's David Haley (also of THE AMENTA, RUINS) on drums. The CD was mixed at Hertz Studio (VADER, DECAPITATED, HATE) in Poland by Wieslawscy Bros. and was mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side Music (SEPULTURA, SUFFOCATION, UNEARTH) in New Windsor, New York.

KIUAS Announces New Lineup
Finnish power metallers KIUAS have issued the following update:
"As our loyal followers (that's you!) are well aware, Ilja [Jalkanen, vocals] left the band to pursue other interests. However, it is not only Ilja who has been pondering the balance between KIUAS and other areas in their lives.
"Markku's [Näreneva, drums] duties as a parent and medical doctor have grown to the point where it is impossible for him to continue giving his total dedication to the band.
"Atte [Tanskanen, keyboards] has found his passion with flying and after graduating from the Finnish Aviation Academy he has spent most of his time in the mile-high club (and steering the aircraft as well every now and then).
"Both guys made the choice to move on themselves and although this stirred up some emotion at first, these changes were inevitable and neccessary for the band to evolve and...well, to excel and ascend.
"Atte and Markku send their thanks to everyone who's been with KIUAS throughout the years and will continue to act in the background following the band's career and helping out in some ways.
"As for the new members...they are passionate musicians first and foremost and people with whom I've already shared the road more or less in the past with great joy and the obsessive urge to ROCK...just as I have with the old members of KIUAS.
"Our new official keyboard player Jari has already played over 30 gigs with KIUAS and has practically been a sixth member of the band since the 'New Dark Age Tour' in 2008, standing in for Atte when he was busy soaring the skies. Jari is a virtuoso player with a history of professional musicianship behind him and his knowledge and expertise is so extensive that he has been used as a consultant in the studio for the likes of LORDI.
"The new vocalist Asim Searah is a young gem luckily discovered by a certain bald guitar player and has already displayed his talents with KIUAS on four gigs. Asim's clean and powerful vocal range can easily cover the world's metal and hard rock repertoire and he can shift convincingly from classic Dio-esque melodies to brutal death growls. He is also a competent guitar player and thus future shows will partly feature some serious twin guitar bombardment!
"The new drummer, Rainer 'Raikku'Tuomikanto is a well known figure in the finnish metal scene, an artist and a technical phenomenon in the highest league. He has performed on dozens of records and toured with many finnish bands and has now finally found his right place with KIUAS.
"So, what's GONNA happen?
"The new KIUAS will throw a mini-tour starting in May to get the feel of the sweat, the booze and the decibels. The dates are as follows:
May 19 - On The Rocks, Helsinki, FIN
May 20 - Puijonsarvi, Kuopio, FIN
May 21 - Nuclear Nightclub, Oulu, FIN
May 28 - Kolhorock, Mänttä, FIN
June 19 - Myötätuulirock, Vantaa, FIN

SVARTSOT To Enter Studio In March
Danish folk metal band SVARTSOT has issued the following update:
"After spending the past year or so on writing new tracks, we will be heading back into the studio from the second week of March to record our third album. The recording will once again take place at Lasse Lammert's LSD Tonstudio in Lübeck, Germany, and will include around 10 tracks of the strongest material we've written so far. The theme of the album is based on the plague epidemic that swept through Europe during the middle of the 14th century, and that would later become known as the Black Death. We feel that this lyrical concept aptly fits the way the music has turned out for this album — so more medieval flavours and intricacies can be expected this time round. A July release for the album is expected, and we will post updates over the next few weeks as work on the album progresses. So stay tuned for more news."
SVARTSOT last year parted ways with rhythm guitarist Cliff Nemanim.

WARRANT: New Album Title Revealed
Californian rockers WARRANT have set "Rockaholic" as the tentative title of their new album, due in May via Frontiers Records. The CD was produced by Keith Olsen, who has previously worked with OZZY OSBOURNE, WHITESNAKE and SCORPIONS, among others.
Commented bassist Jerry Dixon, "The last few years has been like holding in a big 'secret' from the world and now we get to share it.
"I really think we captured a perfect mix of the past and present on this record. Each song has its own vibe that's going to take people on a kick-ass WARRANT roller coaster ride.
"To help achieve an old-school sound mixed with the flair of today, we called on the legendary Keith Olsen to do the production.
"There's enough '80s influence on songs like 'Tears In The City' and 'Sex Ain't Love' to keep the die-hard WARRANT fans rocking while introducing them to new material."

NIGHTSHADE Signs With BULLET TOOTH
Bullet Tooth has announced the signing of NIGHTSHADE. The label's first-ever band from France will release its new album, "Lost In Motion", this spring, followed by a lengthy U.S. tour.
Although NIGHTSHADE is located in France, the group's singer, Wayne Hudspath, is actually from Ohio. The band's CD, featuring the songs "Rebellion", "Through The Memory", and "A Dream, A Choice, A War", is crushingly heavy but with a spellbinding melodic structure.
NIGHTSHADE's new material has been compared to AT THE GATES and CHILDREN OF BODOM with a contemporary twist.
Fans can listen to a two-minute teaser of the new album at the NIGHTSHADE Facebook page.
Commented NIGHTSHADE guitarist and songwriter Bastien Deleule: "Everyone in NIGHTSHADE is excited to be working with our new label, Bullet Tooth, and its owner, Josh Grabelle. We've come to know him well the last few months and his track record with many successful metal acts like IT DIES TODAY, FIRST BLOOD, BLEEDING THROUGH and more, speaks volumes. We feel confident in the new album and we hope everyone will enjoy listening to them, because we had a great time making them. See you on the road!" | 0

STEELWING Parts Ways With Bassist, Seeks Replacement

STEELWING adds, "Thus, we begin the search for a new bassist with whom we can continue the story of STEELWING, starting with our second album and the tours to follow it.
"If you are:
* 18-25 years old
* A skilled bass player with plenty of studio and live experience
* Devoted to the sounds and looks of '80s heavy metal
* Living in the Stockholm/Nyköping area, willing to relocate to it or otherwise capable of rehearsing 1-3 times a week

CYNTHESIS: Album Details And Cover Art Unveiled
Pleasanton, California's CYNTHESIS will release its debut album, "DeEvolution", on April 19 via Sensory Records.
A label priority for Sensory this year, the magnificent "DeEvolution" tells the story of an elite group of leaders from a heavily industrialized city who find, brainwash and then exploit an indigenous tribes' shaman, believing he would be the perfect supreme leader. By propping him up as possessing all the answers to society's ills, the elites use him in order to gain and keep more control over the masses in order to influence the masses via religion, media, consumerism and government.
The brilliant cover artwork for "DeEvolution", created by Dennis "Damn Engine" Sibeijn (EXODUS, DRAGONFORCE, LAMB OF GOD, HIM), can be seen below.
"DeEvolution" track listing:
01. The Man Without Skin
02. Incision
03. Divided Day
04. Shallow World
05. Profits Of Disaster
06. The Edifice Grin
07. Twilight
08. A Song Of Unrest
CYNTHESIS reunites three original members of progressive metal heroes ZERO HOUR — founding twin brothers Jasun and Troy Tipton and original vocalist Erik Rosvold — for the first time on a recording since their heralded albums "The Towers Of Avarice" (2001) and "Metamorphosis" (2003), both considered landmark releases in the progressive metal community.
"DeEvolution" was recorded and produced in 2010 by Dino Alden (Marty Friedman, Tony MacAlpine, Vinnie Moore, ZERO HOUR), and while trademark styles of both the Tipton brothers and Rosvold shine heavily throughout the release, over the course of eight epic anthems, it is very clear by more relaxed pace and epic story of "DeEvolution" that this is NOT a new ZERO HOUR album. | 0

NIGHTWISH Mainman Talks About Forthcoming Album In New Interview
Holed up in the studio for the better part of this spring, Finnish/Swedish symphonic metallers NIGHTWISH are not only putting finishing touches to their new album, "Imaginarium", but also planning a movie of the same name. If all goes well, the CD will be released in early 2012, to be followed by the movie at some point further down the line. The first single off the album as well as the trailer for the film should arrive well before the end of 2011.
For the movie, NIGHTWISH has teamed up with director Stober Harju's production team and Solar Films.
In the following question-and-answer session, NIGHTWISH leader and main composer Tuomas Holopainen talks about the "Imaginarium" concept and the challenges the band has faced in undertaking such an ambitious project.
Q: How did you come up with the concept for "Imaginarium"?
Tuomas: After completing the last album, I realized that we can't necessarily top "Dark Passion Play" in terms of bombast and dynamics. I could simply see the end of a certain path looming in the horizon and started thinking about new challenges. At some point I had a revelation: is there a reason why NIGHWISH should be just an aural experience? Why shouldn't we broaden our horizons? I got the idea of a concept album and thought that we could shoot a video for each song that would all tie together and comprise a story. I wanted to create a complex whole that would be something new compared to the movie projects of, say, PINK FLOYD, KISS, LORDI et cetera.
Q: The project was started two and a half years ago, in early autumn 2008.
Tuomas: I had met director Stobe Harju during the production of "The Islander" video and knew that we were on the same wavelength what comes to crazy fantasy stuff. I told Stobe about my idea, and he said instantly: "Tuomas, you're crazy as a loon, but the idea's amazing — let's start pre-production!" So basically I came up with the concept: I had a vision that we'd shoot thirteen music videos that would all tie together. Then Stobe suggested we'd have dialogue, too, although I had thought that music and videos would carry the story. Stobe assured, however, that the combination of music, imagery and dialogue would give us the best results, and now that I look at the script, I realized that he was right. The pre-production has gone amazingly well, because all my main ideas, like the roller coaster ride in one song, fit Stobe's story seamlessly. Basically, I gave Stobe thirteen pearls, and he crafted a whole pearl necklace out of them.
Q: The final script is still being written, but what can you reveal about the plot at the moment?
Tuomas: An old composer on his deathbed returns to his childhood. Old memories slowly return, mingled with the small boy's world of fantasy and music. This is the main concept that we can reveal at the moment. I wanted to convey a positive message and a sense of carpe diem. The movie is about the joy of being alive and the beauty of the world.
Q: The first advertisement poster gives hints about the visuals of "Imaginarium". What else do you want to share with us at this point?
Tuomas: We're visualizing something that's a cross between the surreal worlds of Tim Burton, Neil Gaiman, and Salvador Dali, but we try to not make it too artsy. Of course, I've seen a thick pile of reference art, and it looks absolutely great.
Q: Have you already done the casting? Can we expect to see any band members in the movie?
Tuomas: We're just about to start casting, but it's mostly going to be done by Stobe and Solar Films. Personally, I'd like to see unknown actors, who haven't been type-casted yet. Obviously it would be good if they were native English speakers, too, because "rally English" really doesn't fit the tone of the movie. NIGHTWISH basically appear as themselves, as we're probably going to be seen playing two or three songs in the movie. There are also some support parts and dialogue written for us, but obviously you won't see us in the main roles. The running time will be about 80 minutes, maybe even a bit more.
Q: Has it been challenging to get the funding for the movie?
Tuomas: "Challenging" is an understatement. You have to remember that a movie like this costs seven figures. Nevertheless, I was not ready to give up at any point, because the idea of releasing just an audio album would have felt like a let-down. The band is strongly involved in the production, and therefore we're also taking a big financial risk ourselves. It's obviously great that we got an excellent company like Solar Films as a partner. Despite all the talk about the movie, it's of utmost importance to remember that "Imaginarium" is also the new NIGHTWISH album, a stand-alone musical work. What's probably interesting for the listeners is that the music on the album and in the movie will differ a bit — in the movie, some intros are edited out, some choruses don't have vocals, and so forth. In the movie, the music obviously has to accommodate the story and the drama.
Q: What kind of role do the lyrics of the songs play in the story?
Tuomas: It was interesting to write the lyrics, because they also have to work on their own without the movie. That's why you won't hear the names of the characters in the lyrics, for example. The individual themes are pretty universal, yet they tie into each other without actually telling a linear story. But don't worry, everything will be made clear in time.
Q: How do you plan to release these things?
Tuomas: If everything goes smoothly, we plan to release the album in early 2012, followed by the movie when it's ready. It's going to be on DVD at least, but hopefully we'll also get a theatrical release. And, of course, "Imaginarium" will later be available as a double pack with both the album and the movie.
Q: If "Dark Passion Play" saw the end of one path, what on earth can you do after "Imaginarium"?
Tuomas: I guess we have to incorporate smells and other sensations...

CHILDREN OF BODOM Frontman Talks About Making Of \'Relentless Reckless Forever\'
Steven Rosen of Ultimate-Guitar.com recently conducted an interview with guitarist/vocalist Alexi Laiho of Finnish metallers CHILDREN OF BODOM. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
Ultimate-Guitar.com: How did you get into recording mode for the "Relentless Reckless Forever" record? Are you someone who woodsheds ideas?
Alexi: Usually it's like it's always been. When you start from fucking scratch, that's the toughest thing to do ever. Because when you have absolutely nothing and you know you have to create something better, that's a tricky situation. However, that's when you have to start thinking about it. You have to go, "Okay, just grab your fucking guitar and start playing. Do whatever it takes." The last time I was staring at my table and staring at my guitar for like almost four fucking hours and I was like, "Dude, I have nothing." It was horrible. Then I put a CD on. You know the band Europe? I had their compilation. I put that on and just starting riffing on that album. I had a great fucking time doing that. I just liked playing along with it. Then before you know it, I would come up with melodies and things like that. I mean, they weren't stolen from them. It helped me to start the process. Sometimes you need to do stuff like that.
Ultimate-Guitar.com: Before you go into record guitars, your parts have already been rehearsed and written?
Alexi: Yeah. We practice and rehearse. You should do that anyway, but it's a good fucking way to save money. You shouldn't spend three fucking months in the studio just to learn a song. In the studio when you hear it from a different point of you then you go, "I want to try this and that." Of course, some new shit comes to life sometimes and we'll change a couple of things here and there. But yeah, everything is practiced or rehearsed before we hit the studio.
Ultimate-Guitar.com: You do a cover of Eddie Murphy's "Party All The Time". What drew you to the idea of doing a cover of an R&B song like that one?
Alexi: Doing stupid-ass covers is one of our favorite hobbies. Eddie Murphy and Rick James are fucking awesome. Have you seen the video for that one? That was looping over and over one night when we were partying. I think our bass player was like, "That's the one we should cover." He made a good point. The thing is we had already done Britney Spears, so it wouldn't be as funny to cover fucking Christina Aguilera or something like that. We had done Kenny Rogers, SLAYER, and Pat Benatar. We had never done Eddie Murphy.
Ultimate-Guitar.com: I read that you chose [producer] Matt Hyde because of his attitude and the way he responded to your music. Was that a big part of it?
Alexi: Yeah, for me it was. It turned out to be a really good decision. He worked with SLAYER and MONSTER MAGNET, but I'm not into fucking credentials. That shit doesn't impress me that much. If the producer is fucking dick, then who cares if you sound like a SLAYER record. I think him and me, we share a really similar love for music and the commitment to make an awesome album and sacrifice anything and everything just to make it sound good not matter what.
Ultimate-Guitar.com: Are you a taskmaster in the studio?
Alexi: When we're writing a song and stuff like that, I'll pretty much tell them what to play. If they can't get it down then I'll say, "Take your time." I'm not a fucking dick to every dude. These guys are my fucking childhood friends. I trust them and they will get it down. I'm the guy who is going to be first in the studio and I'll be the last dude to be there. That doesn't mean I'm always there being a Nazi guy telling people what to do. I let them do their own thing. Sometimes I'll say a couple of things here and there. I think every band needs that. There has to be something that calls the shots at the end of the day. I take care of the writing of the music. Then there's a bass player that's taking care of the merch business. The keyboard player, with him I do a lot of stuff with music, but he knows the business. He works with the managers and stuff. Everybody does something. Everybody has a role. It just turned out to be that way.
