KATATONIA: Stolen Guitars Returned

According to a posting on KATATONIA's Facebook page, the two guitars that were stolen while the Swedish band was performing on September 18, 2010 at Station 4 in St. Paul, Minnesota have been turned in to the police. The group states, "We won't get into the murky ugly details right now as the priority was and is that we get them back on the road for our shows and then on to the competition winners, so let's celebrate that for now while the police continue to do their job."

SLIPKNOT Dedicates New DVD To Late Bassist

According to MTV.com, SLIPKNOT dedicated its new two-disc DVD, "(sic)nesses", to the band's late bassist Paul Gray, who was found dead in an Iowa hotel room on May 24 after an "accidental" overdose of morphine and fentanyl.

LORDI: Previously Unreleased Song To Be Featured In Finnish Musical

"Devil's Crashing The Party", a previously unreleased song from Finnish heavy metal monstes LORDI, will be performed in a musical in Finland. The heavy metal musical called "1827 Infernal Musical" focuses on the great fire that took place in the year 1827 in the city of Turku.

The "1827 Infernal Musical" premiere is scheduled for January 21, 2011 at the Turun Nuori Teatteri in Turku, Finland.

Commented LORDI mainman Mr. Lordi, "It is interesting that our music is suitable for theater world, too."

RELAPSE RECORDS\' European Office/Warehouse Burns To The Ground

The European Relapse Records office and warehouse was destroyed earlier this week by a fierce fire.

The blaze broke out around 5 a.m. on Wednesday morning (September 22) and reduced to ashes the Relapse warehouse and office in Sevenum, Netherlands, along with several other business complexes and houses in the area.

No one was injured in the incident.

The cause of the fire is not yet known and is under investigation by local authorities.

Label operations will continue, and further updates will follow.

Relapse's current label roster includes such acts as BRUTAL TRUTH, CEPHALIC CARNAGE, DYING FETUS, KINGDOM OF SORROW, MISERY INDEX and TOXIC HOLOCAUST.

HATE Catalog Titles Due On LP Next Month; New Album Recorded, More Studio Footage Available

Polish extreme metallers HATE will release limited vinyl editions of their two latest albums, Anaclasis and Morphosis.

Both LPs will be released by Witching Hour Productions this October. Both releases will also be available on the upcoming Rebellion Tour 2010 which features Hate, DECAPITATED, CHRIST AGONY, VEDONIST, NAMMOTH and NERVE.

Hate entered Hertz Studio in Bialystok, Poland on June 5th with producers Slawek and Wojtek Wieslawscy (DECAPITATED, VADER) to begin recording their new album, Erebos. The new masterpiece is now ready, and you can check studio footage in two parts below.

The European release date for Erebos is set for late November. The same month, Hate will embark on an Eastern European tour comprising almost 20 gigs in Russia and the Ukraine. In April, 2011, Hate will set off for a big tour in the United States and Canada, together with ROTTING CHRIST.

HELHEIM: \'Åsgards Fall\' Mini-CD Details Revealed

HELHEIM, one of Norway's oldest Viking metal bands, recently shot a video for the song "Dualitet Og Ulver" ("Duality And Wolves") in the mountains surrounding the band's hometown of Bergen. The track is said to have been written about Hati and Skoll, the two wolves of Norsk legend who attempt to swallow both the sun and the moon.

A series of newly released stills from the video shoot can be found on the band’s web site. A couple of the pictures are available below.

"Dualitet Og Ulver" comes off HELHEIM's new mini-CD, "Åsgards Fall", which is scheduled for release on November 1 via Dark Essence Records. The six-track effort also contains two epic new tracks, written especially for this release, as well as a new recording of the HELHEIM classic "Jernskogen" , originally found on the "Blod & Ild" album. "Dualitet Og Ulver" itself is the video mix of the track that will appear on the band's forthcoming full-length release, "Heiðinðómr Ok Mótgangr", due out at the beginning of 2011.

Recorded at the Conclave and Earshot studios in Bergen, "Åsgards Fall" was produced by HELHEIM and Bjornar Nilsen (VULTURE INDUSTRIES, BLACK HOLE GENERATOR), and was mastered by Herbrand Larsen (ENSLAVED, AUDREY HORNE). The mini-CD also features guest appearances by Hoest (TAAKE), Gunnar Emmerhoff (EMMERHOF AND THE MELANCHOLY BABIES) and PV on vocals, and Trine Mjanger on French horn.

JON LORD To Perform Entire \'Sarabande\' Suite

According to JonLord.org, former DEEP PURPLE keyboardist Jon Lord has revisited his "Sarabande" suite from 1975 and plans to perform it live this fall. "Sarabande" is one of Jon Lord's most successful and most loved orchestral works.

"In Budapest on the 18th of this month, I am playing the 'Sarabande' suite for the first time ever live," Lord says. "That is, in its entirety, and in the same running order as the original recording.

"I have, of course, played 'Gigue' and 'Bourrée' many times and occasionally 'Pavane' and 'Sarabande', but this is the first time the suite has been done 'whole.'"

Recorded in Oer-Erckenschwick near Cologne, Germany in 1974 with the now-defunct Philharmonica Hungarica orchestra conducted by Eberhard Schoener, the full suite comprises:

The original recording also featured Andy Summers on guitar (later with THE POLICE), Pete York on drums, Mark Nauseef on percussion (later drums with IAN GILLAN band and THIN LIZZY) and Paul Karass on bass.

"I have taken the opportunity to brush-up the 1975 orchestrations, and have therefore also orchestrated 'Aria' — which was played on piano and synthesizers on the recording, and 'Caprice' which was just the group," Lord adds. "The 'Finale', too, has had a make-over to allow the 'parade of themes' section, which was done with tape-loops on the recording, to be played live. Had a lot of fun doing it, too."

The complete "Sarabande" suite will be premiered in Budapest on September 18 and later performed also in Sofia on October 30 and in Essen on November 15.

"I will play it in the first half instead of Concerto for Group and Orchestra," says Lord. "I also have a couple of interesting surprises for the second half."

THE SORROW: \'Crossing Jordan\' Video Released

"Crossing Jordan", the new Bernd Levay-directed video from Austrian metallers THE SORROW, can be viewed below. The song comes off the band's third, self-titled album, which is scheduled for release in Europe on October 29 via Drakkar Records and in North America on December 7 through Artoffact Records. The follow-up to 2009's "Origin Of The Storm" was recorded at Principal Studios (DIE TOTEN HOSEN, IN EXTREMO) in Senden, Germany with producer Toni Meloni and was mixed by Sky van Hoff. MILKING THE GOATMACHINE: New Album Artwork, Track Listing Revealed

German grindcore/death metal act MILKING THE GOATMACHINE will release its sophomore studio album, "Seven… A Dinner for One", on November 26 via the band's new label home, NoiseArt Records. The follow-up to 2009's "Back From The Goats…" is said to be a concept effort about "the wolf and the seven kids" and will contain the song "Like A Goatmachine", which is apparently a remake of the JAMES BROWN classic "Like A Sex Machine".

The official for "Frontlines", the new single from the South Florida hard rock quartet NONPOINT, can be viewed below.

NONPOINT lead singer Elias Soriano, commented, "'Frontlines' is for our country's armed forces. TARJA: Second \'Until My Last Breath\' Video Released

The second video for "Until My Last Breath", a brand new song from former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen, can be viewed below. Tarja says, "We filmed it with my talented friends from Same eYes company in Kuusankoski and Kouvola in Finland."

She adds, "The most important thing was to get Mr. Arvi Lind as our guest for the video. Arvi is one of the most-known news anchors from Finland.

"It was fun to search old photos and check some filmed material for the video.

"I am happy with the final result. My friends did great!

"The whole idea for the video was born as the idea for the song itself: the happenings around Michael Jackson's death."

ROBERT PLANT Says BAND OF JOY Will Begin Writing Original Material

LED ZEPPELIN legend Robert Plant tells Billboard.com in a new interview that his new band BAND OF JOY — an updated version of his pre-LED ZEPPELIN group which also featured the late John Bonham — will likely write original material next after releasing an album of cover songs.

"We're talking. We have to write songs now," Plant says. "It's all very well celebrating other people's songwriting, and I know there are artists who actually have an entire career doing that, whether it be Elvis or Sinatra or...a lot of country artists who never write. But we're gonna be heading that way soon."

He added, "I haven't got a great deal of self-esteem when it comes to writing. I have no idea how it will work out, and also it will be the first time I've ever written a song...with the Americana psyche in full flight, so we'll see. I'd like to think we can keep this going and just make JOY where it's appropriate."

BAD COMPANY To Say Goodbye?

BAD COMPANY lead singer and co-founder Paul Rodgers told Scott Smith of Times Record in a new interview that the band's concert on October 7 at The Joint inside the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Catoosa, Oklahoma, near Tulsa, could be the group's swan song to American fans.

"After this Tulsa show, there will be no further plans for BAD COMPANY beyond dates in Japan," said Rodgers. "I'm working on new solo material in the studio, and I've got a solo U.K. tour planned later, so I'm just seeing how it goes."

When asked what instigated Rodgers' reunion with Mick Ralphs (guitar) and Simon Kirke (drums) in 2008, the singer laughed.

"I just called Mick and asked, 'What are you up to?'" he said. "We put the band together to play the Hard Rock (in Hollywood, Fla.), and they said we should record it to DVD. We did, and it was so nice to be back together. It was fresh — we will have another DVD from our show at Wembley Arena coming out as well — so we decided to expand to more dates."

NIGHTWISH, MESHUGGAH, SOILWORK, EVERGREY, CLAWFINGER Members Record Anti-Bullying Song

A number of Swedish metal musicians have come together to record and release a song as a way of raising awareness and taking action on the topic of bullying and harrassment in schools. Musicians from such renowned metal bands as MESHUGGAH, NIGHTWISH, SOILWORK, EVERGREY and CLAWFINGER have joined forces in SWEDEN UNITED, a one-off project whose new single, "Open Your Eyes", will be made available on October 11 via Supernova Records.

SWEDEN UNITED is the brainchild of SCARPOINT drummer Erik Thyselius, 33, who launched the project in response to a story he read in 2008 about a three-year-old boy who was repeatedly kicked in the head and violated while at school.

"Many of the people who listen to this kind of music are too young to go to concerts and the idea is to reach out to them by having the people they look up to singing about the subject," Erik tells the Swedish Aftonbladet newspaper.

Another musician involved in the project is 32-year-old SOILWORK singer Björn "Speed" Strid.

"I have worked as a teaching assistant and have seen what happens in our schools," Strid tells Aftonbladet. "It feels really good to put the foot down and speak our minds [on this topic], [because] kids can be cruel."

EVERGREY singer/guitarist Tom S. Englund, 36, had already touched upon this subject before on the band's album "Monday Morning Apocalypse", which was released four years ago.

"When we wrote the songs, I began to examine myself, both as someone who can be seen as a possible bully and as someone who is vulnerable," he tells Aftonbladet. "I concluded that children can be very nasty — simply because they do not understand the consequences of their actions."

Thyselius is hoping to get the message across to students in schools throughout Sweden. SCARPOINT and its management has entered into a partnership with Fryshuset in Stockholm. "We are also planning a campaign in which we will come together and Fryshuset will organize lectures and work actively to reach both the victims and the perpetrators," he says.

"Open Your Eyes" was written by SCARPOINT with Pontus Hjelm, formerly of DEAD BY APRIL, and recorded by CLAWFINGER's Jocke Skog and mixed by Jens Bogren (OPETH, AMON AMARTH, PARADISE LOST). Guest singers laid down their parts in various studios across Sweden and the United States. The cover artwork was created by Carlos Holmberg.

REDEMPTION Working On New Material

Los Angeles-based progressive metal band REDEMPTION, which features in its ranks vocalist Ray Alder of FATES WARNING, is "in the early pre-production stage" of writing material for its new album for a 2011 release. Guitarist/songwriter Nicolas van Dyk states, "It's too early to say too much, but I can share that the arrangements vary from short (for us!) hard-hitting songs to at least one and possibly two more sprawling ideas, and that a few of the working titles at this point are 'Noonday Devil', 'Dreams From The Pit' and 'Rain In My Soul'."

In November 2008, Nicolas van Dyk was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a disease that he described at the time as "a particularly bad form of blood cancer which is generally considered incurable and which has a five-year survival rate of 34%." He now says, "I remain in complete remission with no trace of the disease that I announced publicly about a year ago. I remain on three powerful medications to ensure that the cancer does not return. Of the five original active lesions in my bones, none are active for cancer and one of them has resolved (i.e. been completely repaired with new bone). The other four are in the process of being repaired and that is the next big milestone.

"Patience is required but I believe they will get there. If that happens, it is a good sign that I am well down the road to being cured (according to the very aggressive doctor to whom I entrust my care). However I must remain on these medicines for two more years. They have many unpleasant side effects but I am resolved to stick with the program and beat 'incurable' blood cancer."

DAUNTLESS: \'Waking Up The World\' Video Released

"Waking Up The World", the new video from the Finnish death/thrash metal band DAUNTLESS, can be viewed below. The song comes off the group's second album, "Death Row Poet", which was released last year. The CD was recorded between September and December 2008 at Drop Hammer Studios and various other locations by Santeri Salmi, Matias Helle and DAUNTLESS.

Formed in 1991, DAUNTLESS is a veteran of the Finnish death metal scene. The band is known as raging live act and its debut album, "Execute the Fact" (Firebox Records, 2007), was highly acclaimed by the media and the fans.

KAKTUS PROJECT, the brainchild of Sylvain Rouvière, has inked a deal with Metalodic Records. The band's debut album, "Supersition", which is "based on the melodic metal music of STRATOVARIUS, EDGUY, sprinkled with HELLOWEEN," according to a press release, is tentatively due before the end of the year.

Commented Rouvière: "I have now been wanting, for a very long time, to make and release a metal album featuring many different guest artists. Unfortunately, a lack of funding and experience made this project a long-lasting dream. In May 2008, however, I managed to finish building my home studio and finally kickstarted my dream project. I met Belette (David Rousseau) who liked my demos and decided to be a part of it. In July 2008, we recorded the drums for the first five tracks. His drums takes were very solid. It was a fantastic start to the project, very encouraging indeed. I gave me hope that I could actually achieve what I had set out to do. Today, over 20 musicians are involved in the making of that album. Not all of them are already known in the music business but they do all share the same passion for their music and an undeniable talent too."

CHILDREN OF BODOM: New Footage From The Studio Posted Online

Finnish metallers CHILDREN OF BODOM launched a full North American tour last night (Wednesday, September 22) in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The band is touring through November alongside BLACK LABEL SOCIETY. CHILDREN OF BODOM's Alexi Laiho and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY's Zakk Wylde appear side-by-side on the cover of Guitar World's October 2010 issue.

METALLICA\'s Version Of \'You Really Got Me\' With RAY DAVIES To Appear On \'See My Friends\'

METALLICA's official web site has been updated with the following message:

"About a year ago, we had the honor of playing with Ray Davies [THE KINKS] at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame 25th-anniversary concert in New York . . . it was the first time we had ever met Ray and was definitely one of the highlights of our night. Fast forward a few months to the tuninig room before the show in Oslo on April 14 and there we were recording with Ray!!! How cool is that?

"Turns out that Ray has been planning to put out a record of collaborations on classic KINKS songs with a wide variety of today's musicians and lo and behold we were actually asked to be included in this stellar group spanning many genres and styles. The result is coming to your favorite place to purchase music around the world on November 1, 2010. Titled 'See My Friends', our version of 'You Really Got Me' appears on disc, or in bits and bites, alongside of Ray with Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora, Lucinda Williams, Jackson Browne, Alex Chilton, Spoon, Frank Black, Billy Corgan and many others.

ROTTEN Recruits New Guitarist

Dutch death metallers ROTTEN — who feature in their ranks members of RADICAL NERVE DISTORTION, REBORN and HACKSAW — have announced the addition of guitarist John to the group's ranks. The band states, " It only took one session to find out that John was the man for ROTTEN. Both John and ROTTEN feel confindent about the future and so ROTTEN is whole again."
