LINKIN PARK\'s \'A Thousand Suns\' Tops U.S. Chart
 LINKIN PARK's new album, "A Thousand Suns", sold 241,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 1 on The Billboard 200 chart.
"A Thousand Suns" is LINKIN PARK's fourth consecutive chart-topper, following 2003's "Meteora", 2004's "Collision Course" EP with Jay-Z, and 2007's "Minutes To Midnight".
Like every other act, however, LINKIN PARK's sales reflect the current realities of the music business: while 241,000 copies is impressive, "Minutes To Midnight" sold 623,000 in its first week.

MADBALL Fires MAX WEINBERG\'s Son
 New York hardcore legends MADBALL have parted ways with drummer Jay Weinberg, the 20-year-old son of Max Weinberg (BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN AND THE E STREET BAND).
Commented MADBALL frontman Freddy Cricien: "I'm letting Jay go [mid-tour] in Canada because I just feel he doesn't represent this band well on a character level. It would go against my own code of ethics to keep him around. Not saying he's a bad drummer. I won't take that away from him. But the reality is — he has a lot to learn about paying dues, and about life in general. Granted, he is a kid, but I'm not sure that he'll ever be built for this particular lifestyle. I wish him the best of luck, but the MADBALL machine rolls on!"
MADBALL will finish out the tour with a soon-to-be-announced replacement drummer. All future band plans, including their upcoming European tour with SICK OF IT ALL, and most importantly, the release of the group's new album, "Empire", on October 12, remain unaffected and on schedule. | 0 | |

FINNTROLL Frontman Launches New Project THE INIQUITY DESCENT; Audio Samples Available
 FINNTROLL frontman Mathias "Vreth" Lillmåns has issued the following update:
"Here's some new and fresh stuff from my new project carrying the name THE INIQUITY DESCENT. Uploaded three samples from the upcoming release here. These versions are still almost untouched, the real mixingsessions will start in late October.
The first release will contain four songs, although eleven songs have been recorded already. Check out this page for more info about the process and everything else concerning The Iniquity Descent."

RODRIGO Y GABRIELA Is 'So Proud' To Be Part Of New DEATH ANGEL Album
 RODRIGO Y GABRIELA — the dynamic Mexican duo which became an international world-music phenomenon with its self-titled album of aggressive acoustic guitars and irresistible Latin rhythms — makes a guest appearance on the track "Claws In So Deep" from the new DEATH ANGEL album, "Relentless Retribution".
Natives of Mexico City, Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero began their careers as members of TIERRA ACIDA, a heavy metal band which played on the city's underground gig circuit for seven years.
"Like a lot of Mexican youth, we were heavily influenced by American metal bands — METALLICA, MEGADETH, PANTERA, and also SEPULTURA," Gabriela explained. "It was a full band, very loud, and for vocals, Rodrigo would just scream. We played this way for seven years."
Regarding the new DEATH ANGEL CD, Gabriela said, "The album is fantastic. It brings back the magic that metal used to have back in the days.
"Most bands lost it along the way and the new bands can't find that magic at all, but DEATH ANGEL has that magic! Also great musicianship and their individual playing is first-class! Viva el metal!"
Added Rodrigo: "It's siiiiiiiccccccckkkkk. DEATH ANGEL have brought back the proper metal memories! Great melodies, sound, solos, vocals, and drumming! What can I say? We feel so proud to be part of it!"

Metal Mind Productions presents NOCTE OBDUCTA - a true metal phenomenon and one of the most influential black metal groups in Germany. Their music is often referred to as ‘avant-garde black metal’ due to their uncanny ability to combine brutal, demonic metal with psychedelic and even progressive styles.
Their fourth full-length album, Galgendämmerung - Von Nebel, Blut und Totgeburten was originally released in 2002. This exclusive reissue brings back this devilish masterpiece in all its forbidden glory.
Nocte Obducta remains one of the most remarkable black metal projects ever to emerge on the metal scene. With lyrics sang only in German, it is truly a significant group among other blasphemous acts. Galgendämmerung - Von Nebel, Blut und Totgeburten is an amazing example of devilish and unholy avant-garde. The new digipak edition of the album is limited to 2,000 copies. Remastered using tube technology, digitally edited on a golden disc.

LED ZEPPELIN Bassist To Be Honored At GOLD BADGE AWARDS
 According to MusicWeek, LED ZEPPELIN/THEM CROOKED VULTURES bassist John Paul Jones will be honored at the 2010 Gold Badge Awards, which will be held on October 20 at the Savoy in London.
In total 13 Gold Badge Awards at this year's event, which acknowledges people who work in a wide variety of fields, from journalism to session work.
"A Gold Badge conveys so much that would otherwise be left unsaid," says Basca chairman Sarah Rodgers. "It says, 'What you do for us songwriters and composers is remarkable and has not gone unnoticed'; it says, 'We couldn't do it without you.'"

WHILE HEAVEN WEPT - More Live CD/DVD/LP Details Revealed; Band Announce New Keyboardist
 US metallers WHILE HEAVEN WEPT have been working on the forthcoming release of their new live album, Triumph:Tragedy:Transcendence - Live At The Hammer Of Doom Festival, set for a November release date.
Tom Phillips (guitar, keyboards, vocals) checks in with the following update:
"I am extremely pleased to inform you that Chris Salamone and I have just completed the mastering of Triumph:Tragedy:Transcendence - Live At The Hammer Of Doom Festival this week, and the results are incredible all things considered. But don't take my word for it... today I'm adding the first audio sample to all of our websites, including this MySpace Page, so I encourage you to have a listen yourselves!
Currently, our good friends at Streetclip TV are editing the DVD program, and based upon the rough draft version I've seen, it's going to turn out absolutely amazing considering the number of cameras involved as well as the very musically-inclined filming.
The performance features an equal balance of material from all of our albums, and features a good amount of improvisation ala RAINBOW circa 1976, making this a very special release indeed.
I wanted to also take this opportunity to reveal the details pertaining to both formats "T:T:T" will be released in:

 Pacific Northwest band AGALLOCH will release its new album, "Marrow Of The Spirit", on November 23 via Profound Lore Records.
Just as AGALLOCH's last three releases — "Pale Folklore", "The Mantle" and "Ashes Against The Grain" — all differed from each other, "Marrow Of The Spirit" is unlike anything AGALLOCH has ever produced before. The first album to feature new AGALLOCH drummer Aesop Dekker (also in Profound Lore acts LUDICRA and WORM OUROBOROS) includes guest appearances by cellist Jackie Perez Gratz (GRAYCEON, GIANT SQUID, ASUNDER, AMBER ASYLUM), Jeffrey Neblock (VINDENSANG), and Nathan Carson (WITCH MOUNTAIN, TWO-TON BOA, SUNN 0)))).

Reactivated LAMENTED SOULS Working On New Music
 Reactivated Norwegian cult doom rockers LAMENTED SOULS have issued the following update:
"The band recently camped at casa Apollyon to rehearse some new stuff. Booze and beers were consumed, delicious meals as well, and we even found the time to play around with some new riffs. The result — three more or less complete new songs, in addition to the 6-7 we already have, plus a bunch of as-of-yet-unused riffs that sound very promising.
"We're not gonna start talking dates yet — experience has taught us the folly of doing so when you play lazy old doom — but these news should bode well for another LAMENTED SOULS album actually happening. Meanwhile, check out our other projects; WAKLEVÖREN, VIRUS and so on and stay doom!"
LAMENTED SOULS is looking for a proper label to release the band's follow-up to 2004's "The Origins of Misery". Interested parties can contact the group through the LAMENTED SOULS MySpace page.
After vocalist/guitar player Simen "Vortex" Hestnæs parted ways with DIMMU BORGIR last year, it was only a matter of time until his original outfit would once again rear its ugly head. The band — whose lineup also includes OJ "Apollyon" Moe (IMMORTAL, AURA NOIR), Olav Knutsen (WAKLEVÖREN, INFERNÖ) and Einar Sjursø (VIRUS) — played the Metal Merchants festival in the group's hometown of Oslo at the end of January (see video below).

Former UNEARTH Bassist CHRIS \'ROVER\' RYBICKI Dies
 Former UNEARTH bassist Chris "Rover" Rybicki passed away yesterday (Monday, September 20) from injuries sustained in an accident when the scooter he was riding on was hit by an allegedly drunk woman.
According to The Salem News, Rybicki was riding a scooter in Salem, Massachusetts on August 28 when it collided with a 2008 Volkswagen Passat driven by Beth MacGillivary (photo of crash scene).

ALLEN / LANDE: \'Judgement Day\' Video Released
 Jorn Lande (MASTERPLAN, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN) and Russell Allen (SYMPHONY X) will release the third ALLEN / LANDE collaborative album on November 5 via Frontiers Records. Entitled "The Showdown", the CD was mixed by Achim Köhler (PRIMAL FEAR, SINNER, SILENT FORCE) and once again features material written by Swedish guitar sensation Magnus Karlsson (PRIMAL FEAR, STARBREAKER, LAST TRIBE).
"With two of the best singers in the business, it's easy to get inspiration to write good music," says the mastermind of the project, Swedish guitar player, songwriter and producer Magnus Karlsson, who adds, "When it was decided that Russell and Jorn were going to sing on the first album I knew that if I could just write great songs and get the right mix, it would have a very good chance to be a success."
Musically, "The Showdown" sounds like "a mix of both previous releases, with 'The Battle' being more melodic and 'The Revenge', which was more in the hard rock direction," says Karlsson, who concludes, "I'm more satisfied than ever with the songs and performances, but also because the mix by Achim is by far the best I ever had on any album!"

SULLY ERNA: \'Sinner\'s Prayer\' Video Released
 "Sinner's Prayer", the new video from GODSMACK frontman Sully Erna, can be viewed below. The track is the first single from Erna's solod debut, "Avalon", which was released on September 14. Erna told The Pulse of Radio that he considers "Avalon" a high point of his musical career to this point. "That has been really probably one of the best times I've had in my musical career ever, and I feel like it's some of my best work I've ever done," he said. "I'm really excited to have the public hear it. I've been keeping it on a very tight, you know, lock and chain."

MADBALL: Another New Song Available For Streaming
 New York City hardcore legends MADBALL will release their new album, "Empire", on October 12 via Good Fight Music. The CD was recorded at Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida with producer Erik Rutan, who has previously worked with MISERY INDEX, CANNIBAL CORPSE and GOATWHORE, among many others.
The title track from "Empire" is now available for streaming on the Stereo Killer web site.

IRON MAIDEN Singer Named Marketing Director For ASTRAEUS AIRLINES
 According to Travel Trade Gazette, IRON MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson has been named marketing director for Astraeus Airlines, which leases aircraft and cabin crew to airlines. He will work with Astraeus chief commercial officer and director of leasing Shaun Monnery, who said the appointment was part of an expansion of the commercial team.
Monnery said, "Bruce is a great communicator, he knows the aviation industry inside-out from both technical and commercial perspectives, and in a demanding industry he is a man who can cope with pressure, whether as a 757 captain or in front of 50,000 IRON MAIDEN fans, or senior airline and aviation managers."
Dickinson added, "This is a marketing role aimed at delivering the Astraeus message and business proposition directly to what is a relatively tight and targeted audience of people and decision-makers in aviation.
"I'm a communicator, clearly I have a background in creative media, and I'm an airline captain, so it all makes great sense and I relish the challenge."
Dickinson, who is a longstanding pilot with Astraeus, told CNN.com in a 2007 interview, "Aviation's been kicking around my family for as long as I can remember; my uncle was in the RAF. But I always thought I was too stupid. I was useless at maths and majored in history at university, so I thought history majors don't become pilots, let alone rock stars. And then our drummer learned to fly so I said if a drummer can learn to fly then anyone can."
He added, "I never dreamed I would end up flying an airliner. I ended up flying IRON MAIDEN around on tour in a little eight-seat, pressurized, twin-engine plane. Basically we were flying round all the world's major airports, flew across the Atlantic and back, which was quite an adventure. At the end I thought I really want to fly something bigger, but I can't afford it — I can't buy my own 707. If I'm going to do that I have to get a job."
On how the thrill of piloting a 757 compares to taking to the stage with MAIDEN:
"It's a different kind of buzz. Obviously you aren't leaping around the flight deck yelling and screaming, but you have to manage situations... Flying at 35,000 feet is an internal thing, really. Whereas 35,000 people, that's just showing off."
On whether he will be hanging up his leopard-skin spandex forever:
"I could never contemplate giving up music. I have to say I've always been interested in planes, the only difference is I started to fly the darn things 15 years ago. I don't see why I should give up either of them. People say 'Why do you need a second job?' I say 'Why do you need to breathe?'"

THY MAJESTIE Singer Featured On CRIMSONWIND Debut

EMPYRIA - \'Last Rites\' Video Available
 Vancouver-based progressive metallers EMPYRIA have unveiled their new video for the song 'Last Rites' - check it out below:
The track is pulled off the band's latest album, The Long Road Home, out now via Nightmare Records.
The Long Road Home features 11 tracks with new drummer Scott Gamble, Mike Kischnick (guitars/synth - also in THOR), Phil Leite and the reuniting of original bassist/vocalist Paul Falcon.
According to a press release, "The Long Road Home is a musical journey reflecting their earlier prog influences in the bands melodic progression and distinct sound, opening the door to a wider audience and always staying true to themselves musically."
As previously reported, Michael Kischnick is thankful to be alive after suffering a major hemmorage on his brain stem called a Cavernoma on July 17th. He was released from hospital on July 21st. | 0 | |
