POWERWORLD Signs With SPV/STEAMHAMMER
 German melodic metal band POWERWORLD, the brainchild of former FREEDOM CALL and MOON'DOC bassist Ilker Ersin, has inked a worldwide deal with SPV/Steamhammer. Commented vocalist Dave Peters: "'Tombs' and 'Blinding Light' are my two favorite songs on the record. 'Blinding Light' didn't initially have that creepy vibe that it took on later during production. Unfortunately, the vocal and guitar layers are what give it that vibe, and it's not real easy to reproduce live as a four-piece. I'm notorious for painting us into a corner that way, but it's ridiculous to dumb a song down or not use parts in fear of translating it live in my opinion."

COMBICHRIST is Making Monsters
 If there is one person with ample experience in unleashing sonic monsters unto mankind, it must be Andy LaPlegua, front-berserker and head of Norwegian-U.S.-Electro-Industrial force of nature Combichrist. The band has been spending most of the roughly one and a half years since the release of their highly successful last long play album on tour, also supporting legendary German band Rammstein on their European tour along the way.
All the manifold impressions and experiences have certainly left their mark on the new album, which is easily the most versatile release in their career. The new Combichrist-monster is loud, massive and direct, as one would have come to expect from the band and features incendiary floor fillers such as the advance single “Never Surrender” that are among the hardest hits Andy & his lads have ever produced. At the same time Minimal-Electro-influences, menacing, dark slo-mo-steam rollers and an inkling of melodic elements have been seeping into the sound, evolving “Making Monsters” into an inferno of the intense kind.
The album will also be hitting shops as a limited edition that is bundled with an infernal live DVD and as a limited edition gatefold double vinyl (extra heavy high quality orange and clear vinyl discs).

ATHEIST Parts Ways With Bassist
 Reactivated seminal technical metal pioneers ATHEIST have completed work on their long-awaited fourth album, "Jupiter", for a tentative November release via Season Of Mist. The CD was recorded at LedBelly studios in Atlanta, Georgia with engineer Matt Washburn and will be mixed by Jason Suecof (TRIVIUM, CHIMAIRA, DEVILDRIVER).
ATHEIST has issued the following update on the band's recent activities:
"First we would like to extend sincere apologies to all ATHEIST fans around the world. We have been silent on the matter of a former member being dismissed for some time, but we were entirely focussed on recording our new album, 'Jupiter'. Therefore, we did not want to get sidetracked on an issue, which, quite honestly, was far less important to us than it might appear to some looking in from the outside.
"When we came together to write again, it was an obvious choice, for several reasons, to try and continue in what has been our touring lineup.
"We've had such a great time together on the road for the past four years. We're all great friends, and all of us were working peacefully towards the completion of the album. Therefore it hit us very unexpectedly when Tony [Choy, bass] called one day and informed us that he would not record with us. What's worse is that this happened only four weeks prior to our confirmed studio date. This left us in a very unfortunate position and without a choice.
"Although we are quite angry with him for this extremely late and inconsiderate change of heart, we have no desire to let this become personal or start some public feud. We simply want to be sure the facts are out there so we can get on with writing and playing music.
"While this might come as a surprise to some, we simply shrugged our shoulders and continued on, unfazed, for one simple reason: Tony was never instrumental to ATHEIST's sound in the first place. The true genius behind the technical bass lines of 'Unquestionable Presence' was co-founding member Roger Patterson.
"It's not well known to today's fans that Roger actually wrote all the bass tracks just prior to his ultimately sad and tragic death and deserves the credit. Tony simply played what was written. However, the public perception has become distorted over the past two decades.
"It was the trio of Steve [Flynn, drums], Kelly [Shaefer, vocals/guitar] and Roger who helped to bring ATHEIST alive — and continue to do so today — without Roger, of course. Tony had no influence on the band's original sound.
"It was that one young, gifted kid, Roger Patterson, who inspired subsequent generations of bass players to delve into technical metal and bring their instrument to the forefront. Yet, unfortunately, Roger has not always received the credit due to him.
"With all due respect, most of the credit has been misplaced on Tony.
"It was actually following Roger's terrible accident that Tony joined us, after Doug Keyser from WATCHTOWER declined our offer to join for personal reasons.
"It must be said that nobody can deny Tony did a good job of playing the parts written by another musician.
"We will never stop being thankful for Tony to step in and help us out at that most difficult time. He remains a great friend. Apart from that, however, Tony's contribution to the sound of ATHEIST consists only of his participation as a fifth contributing member in writing 'Elements'.
"We leave it to CYNIC and PESTILENCE to tell their own stories, if anybody feels the need to hear them.
"Those who are close to us know we do not like to discuss band business publicly. We prefer to keep those things internal, as they have nothing to do with the music. Yet this story must be told for a variety of reasons — primarily to honor Roger! Thus, with this very brief glimpse into our history, we hope people understand why we handled things like we did and why we were able to react quickly when Tony left us in the lurch just before the recording of 'Jupiter'.
"As with previous classic ATHEIST material, Tony had not contributed to the writing of 'Jupiter' in any significant way, so we did not have to start over. Also, we had no intention to accept any further delay caused by Tony, especially since there was already an extremely talented young musician in our ranks: Jonathan Thompson (guitar).
"Not only did Jonathan do his intricate guitar lines flawlessly on 'Jupiter', but as a huge fan of Roger's work, he also wrote and performed the very impressive and original bass lines on this album as well. That is quite a story in itself.
"Tony may tour with ATHEIST, but for now it shall suffice that rather than settle for some random guy, we went with the best and kept it in the family.
"Now that our work on what we hope will soon become another classical technical metal masterpiece is nearly finished and the news of Tony Choy's removal has already reached the public, we feel the need to have our story heard instead of letting the false legend, rumor and speculation perpetuate and persist in replacing truth.
"ATHEIST are alive and well and 'Jupiter' will prove us to be stronger than ever!"

NECRONOMICON Parts Ways With Bassist
 Bassist Diego "D" has announced his departure from the Quebec, Canada-based black/death metal band NECRONOMICON. His statement on the matter reads as follows:
"After four years of hard work, it is with great regret that I announce my departure from NECRONOMICON. This was an utterly difficult decision to make, not only because my relationship with Rob ['The Witch' Tremblay; vocals, guitar] and Rick [drums] has always been (and probably will always be) solid and empathetic, but also due to the band's increasing popularity within the international metal scene. However, there are different professional and personal projects which I must undertake and won't be able to do simultaneously with my current band duties. It is also because of the great chemistry that binds us as a group that this resignation will not be traumatic and sudden; I will remain with the band for approximately another six months while we find a worthy replacement.
"I want to thank everybody who believes in the band as strongly as I do, and may NECRONOMICON's evolution remain undeterred for long years to come."
The band added, "The rest of the guys understand and support D in his choice and are happy in the way that everything happened. NECRONOMICON will start auditions for a new bassplayer [as soon as possible] since a lot of projects are in process."

The Holland-based group recently completed a promotional recording at the Gate Studio (AVANTASIA, EPICA, KAMELOT) in Wolfsburg, Germany with Sascha Paeth and is currently seeking a label home.  In 2009 Wacken Open Air celebrated it's 20th Anniversary with a giant party and as usual it was recorded on DVD.
With a duration of more than 500 minutes on three DVDs it's the biggest Wacken live DVD ever. Included are videos of more than 60 bands, 70 live tracks in 5.1 / 2.0 Dolby Digital and additionally masses of documentations and our world record – the world's longest DVD credits with more than 17,500 participants!

MIRROR OF DECEPTION - \'A Smouldering Fire\' Trackliste
 MIRROR OF DECEPTION haben die Aufnahmen im Soundmann Studio in Stuttgart (wo bereits "Foregone" und "Shards" aufgenommen wurden) an Ihrem vierten Album "A Smouldering Fire" abgeschlossen.
Die Erstauflage von "A Smouldering Fire" wird mit einer Bonus CD ausgestattet sein. Darauf enthalten sind diverse Raritäten aus den Bandarchiven, sowie Stücke, die bisher nur auf Vinyl erhältlich waren und drei neu eingespielte Demo Songs.
Das Artwork zum neuen Album stammt von der irischen Künstlerin Elaine Cooney (u.a. Wounded Kings, Ocean Chief, Procession).

SLAYER Drummer On Reconnecting With MEGADETH, Making New Fans
 Steven DiLodovico of the Philadelphia Indie Music Examiner recently conducted an interview with SLAYER drummer Dave Lombardo. A few excerpts from the chat follow below.
On touring with MEGADETH and TESTAMENT:
"We are reacquainting ourselves with all these old friends. I think it's great that we've reestablished these friendships. I hung out with Dave [Mustaine, MEGADETH mainman] this morning. I walked out of my hotel and there he was. We went to the store together. We're all friends; we're out here to kick ass and have fun and do what we do best and that's what we're doing. And I anticipate that's how the rest of the tour is gonna go."
On touring:
"I would say about three quarters of the bands are out having good times while on the road. Tom [Araya, bass/vocals] is married, I was married and recently got divorced, but we're out there having a good time with the rest of the guys."
On how SLAYER's audience represents the full spectrum of genre-spanning fans of all types of aggressive music:
"It's been great. You see such a wide range of fans. You get the fathers with their kids, the teenagers, the twenty- and thirty-year-olds. It's awesome; it's longevity. I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that our music has been all over so many video games, which is pretty cool. In a way the Internet ruined music, yet other things have sprung up that helped it along."
On SLAYER's latest offering, "World Painted Blood", which has been hailed by fans and critics alike as a return to the brutal form they established over 20 years ago:
"We can see that people really like the album. They sing along to all those songs, some of those songs, to me, have now become the classics like say, 'South of Heaven' or 'Seasons in the Abyss'. 'World Painted Blood' falls right in there.”
On SLAYER's live performance:
"People will hear my bass drums just pummeling them. From what I hear, it beats you up pretty good. We have a great soundman and, of course, SLAYER behind the instruments. There is no doubt that you will get a beating. For this leg we are currently doing two songs off 'World Painted Blood' which are the title track and 'Hate Worldwide'. Then we perform the entire 'Seasons in the Abyss' record. I don't know if we're gonna do that in the States, though. But that's what we're doing through Canada."
On the upcoming DVD release of 1995's "Live Intrusion" concert video:
"'Live Intrusion' was when I wasn't in the band. They blotted me out. They might have fixed it now, but they blotted me out. They released that when I was away from the band, so that's why they did that. I never questioned them about it, but I don't really care."

 "Danger In The Manger", the new video from IWRESTLEDABEARONCE — the Shreveport, Louisiana quintet now transplanted to Birmingham, Alabama — can be viewed below. The clip was filmed at the end of January in Greensboro, North Carolina.
"Danger In The Manger" comes off IWRESTLEDABEARONCE's latest album, "It's All Happening", which sold 4,300 copies of its in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 121 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD landed at position No. 1 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
IWRESTLEDABEARONCE recently released the "It's All Happening" (Century Media Records) three-disc deluxe reissue CD, which includes the "It's All Remixed" bonus CD and DVD, featuring a variety of remixes and exclusive video. The "It's All Happening" bonus DVD includes song stems for listeners to create their own remixes as well as in-studio webisodes, tour journals, music videos and additional video content.
On "It's All Happening", IWRESTLEDABEARONCE embraces elements of grindcore, electronica, jazz, rock 'n' roll and even a little country for a chaotic aural concoction that's as intoxicating as it is incendiary, including the single and video "Tastes Like Kevin Bacon", which burned up the Sirius Hard Attack charts, achieved massive amounts of views on YouTube and is now available for Rock Band 2 on the Rock Band Network.
Produced by Ryan Boesch (NORMA JEAN) and recorded in Ross Robinson's Venice Beach studio, "It's All Happening" segues from guitarists Steven Bradley and John Ganey's syncopated spastic riffs to dance-floor-ready rhythms and beats courtesy of bassist Mike "Rickshaw" Martin and drummer Mikey Montgomery. Above this explosion of styles, vocalist Krysta Cameron screams with precise brutality, before crooning out hauntingly ethereal passages. On cuts like "Danger in the Manger" and "You Ain't No Family", her voice swings like a sledgehammer from bludgeoning to beautiful. The band's charm lies in their sonic sense of ADD — catapulting "The Cat's Pajamas" and "Pazuzu For The Win" from battle-ready math metal to danceable hip hop doused in jazz for good measure.

BRING ME THE HORIZON: New Album Title Revealed
 According to Altpress.com, Sheffield, U.K. metallers BRING ME THE HORIZON have set "There Is A Hell, I've Seen It. There Is A Heaven, Let's Keep It A Secret" as the title of their third album, due later this year via Visible Noise. The CD — which is said to be in many ways a concept album about the dreamlike euphoria and good nature that can be countered so dramatically with the darkness and evil that is buried deep inside humanity and that we are all capable of experiencing — will feature guest appearances by Josh Franceschi of YOU ME AT SIX and Lights. Songtitles set to appear on the effort include "Crucify Me", "Don't Go", "Memorial" and "Fuck".
"There Is A Hell, I've Seen It. There Is A Heaven, Let's Keep It A Secret" was recorded at Studio Fredman in Västra Frölunda, Sweden with producer Fredrik Nordström (DIMMU BORGIR, IN FLAMES, HAMMERFALL).

SABATON: \'Uprising\' Video Released
 "Uprising", the new video from Swedish metallers SABATON, can be viewed below. The clip was filmed in Warsaw, Poland and is described as "a powerful and emotional tribute to those who lost their lives in the Warsaw uprising in 1944." The video features an appearance by Swedish actor Peter Stormare ("Prison Break", "8MM", 'Fargo') as SS-Obergruppenführer von dem Bach and was directed by Jacek Raginis (who is related to decorated WWII hero Wladyslav Raginis).

SOUNDGARDEN To Release \'Telephantasm\' Retrospective Set
 The reunited SOUNDGARDEN will release a retrospective set, "Telephantasm", on September 28. The band states, "It includes songs from all of our albums and EPs, including 'Black Rain', an unreleased track from the 'Badmotorfinger' sessions. Plus, we are releasing our first-ever DVD which will include never-before-seen videos, and much more.
"We have partnered with 'Guitar Hero 6' to launch 'Telephantasm' simultaneously with the launch of the new game. Which means if you buy 'Guitar Hero 6' for the week of September 28, you get a copy of 'Telephantasm' as well. Of course, there will be vinyl, collectors' editions, deluxe packages and more."
SOUNDGARDEN has announced a new show, its third since coming back together earlier this year. The band will play on Thursday, August 5 at the intimate Vic Theatre in Chicago, just three days before it headlines the third day of the Lollapalooza festival in the Windy City's Grant Park on Sunday, August 8. Fans have a chance to buy tickets to the club gig by signing up as a member of Soundgarden World, the band's official web site. Selected members will get an email with a link to purchase a pair of tickets, all of which will be given out on the day of the show at the box office.
You must be 18 to attend the show. All ticket sales will be final, with no exchange, refund or transfer of names.
Fans must show government-issued photo ID to collect their paperless tickets, with no exceptions.
SOUNDGARDEN performed its first show since 1997 on April 16 at the Showbox in Seattle under the name NUDEDRAGONS (anagram of SOUNDGARDEN).
The rest of SOUNDGARDEN's plans, including more shows or a full tour, remain in the dark right now. Drummer Matt Cameron also has commitments with PEARL JAM, of which he has been a member for 12 years.
Cornell recorded three albums with AUDIOSLAVE and three records on his own since SOUNDGARDEN disbanded, but his last solo effort, 2009's "Scream", was blasted by critics and fans for its urban pop production and bombed saleswise.
The other two members of the band, guitarist Kim Thayil and bassist Ben Shepherd, have kept lower profiles, although they and Cameron jammed together last year at a Seattle club.
