Fan-filmed video footage of the performance can be viewed below (clip uploaded by Dave Ingham a.k.a. YouTube user "triptykon").
McClain was a member of SACRED REICH from 1991 to 1995. He played on the "A Question" EP (1991) and the "Independent" (1993) and "Heal" (1996) albums before leaving to join MACHINE HEAD.
Displeased Records' reissue of SACRED REICH's classic album "The American Way" came out in February. PARADISE LOST Guitarist Forced To Sit Out Tour
U.K. gothic metal pioneers PARADISE LOST have issued the following statement:
"Tragically, lead guitarist Greg Mackintosh will be unable to continue with PARADISE LOST's 'Faith Divides Us - Death Unites Us' tour of Europe due to a terminal illness within his family.
"Greg's father was taken critically ill some weeks ago, yet Greg decided to commence the tour anyway in the hope that future news from home would be positive. This, unfortunately, was not the case. Therefore (as of 6th November 2009), Greg will remain in England to support his relatives during this difficult time.
"Everyone involved with the band would like to offer Greg our support and to let him know all our thoughts are with him.
"The tour will not end here, though. Milly Evans (PARADISE LOST's long-standing guitar technician and keyboardist from TERRORVISION) will fill in for Greg with immediate effect.
"Having worked with the band for many years, Milly knows PARADISE LOST's repertoire far more than most, and will endeavour to provide a seamless transition between guitarists. Milly is highly regarded among PARADISE LOST's fan-base and is the best person to fill Greg's role in the band for the rest of the European tour.
"We apologize in advance to those of you who will be joining us for the European dates and will no doubt be disappointed by Greg's absence. However, I am sure you will appreciate this unfortunate situation was unavoidable and everyone is doing everything they can to ensure the shows run as smoothly as possible."

ARCH ENEMY Guitarist\'s ARMAGEDDON: Albums To Be Reissued With Bonus Tracks
The second ("Embrace The Mystery") and third ("Three") albums from ARMAGEDDON — the Swedish melodic metal project of ARCH ENEMY guitarist Chris Amott — will get a proper and domestic release outside of Japan, where they originally came out back in the years 2000 and 2002, respectively. "Embrace The Mystery & Three" will be released as 2CD set with upgraded artwork, several bonus tracks and liner notes on November 16, 2009 in Europe and on January 26 in North America via Century Media Records.
Commented Chris Amott: "It is with great pleasure that I announce the first time ever release of these albums in Europe and the U.S.! Any fan of melodic hard rock and shred guitar playing should check this out — 'Embrace the Mystery' and 'Three' feature many great instrumental performances and epic songs! These two albums were recorded in 2000 and 2002 and have until only been available in Japan. I put a lot of work into these recordings at the time, so I am glad to see them come out!"
Originally formed in Halmstad, Sweden in 1997, ARMAGEDDON was launched as a melodic death metal act, with the band's debut album, "Crossing The Rubicon", released via the now-defunct W.A.R. Records label in Europe and Toy's Factory in Japan. Next to guitarist and mastermind Chris Amott, the album also featured drummer Peter Wildoer (DARKANE, MAJESTIC, now also in PESTILENCE) and bassist Martin Bengtsson, who both then moved on to join ARCH ENEMY, recording, releasing and touring ARCH ENEMY's 1998 "Stigmata" release. Chris revisited ARMAGEDDON with 2000's "Embrace The Mystery" album, once again released in Japan on Toy's Factory but never available internationally. This album presented a rather melodic and traditional metal approach and featured LAST TRIBE member Rickard Bengtsson on vocals, Dick Lövgren on bass (now member of MESHUGGAH but previously a touring bassist for bands like EUCHARIST, ARCH ENEMY and IN FLAMES) as well as ARCH ENEMY drummer Daniel Erlandsson (also previously active with EUCHARIST and IN FLAMES and currently a member of the reunited CARCASS). Following the album's release, ARMAGEDDON supported IN FLAMES and THE HAUNTED on a Japanese tour, which remain the only live performances for the band until now. In 2002 ARMAGEDDON released its third and (so far) last album exclusively in Japan again. Simply entitled "Three", it showcases ARMAGEDDON as a three-piece, with Chris Amott handling all vocal duties next to playing guitar as well as Daniel Erlandsson on drums and new bassist Tobias Gustafsson (EUCHARIST).
The "Embrace The Mystery & Three" 2CD set marks the long-overdue international release of these two jewels of modern Scandinavian melodic metal, not only including the full original versions of both albums packaged in a revamped version of the original "Embrace The Mystery" artwork by Niklas Sundin (DARK TRANQUILLITY, ARCH ENEMY, IN FLAMES), but also comes with six special bonus tracks (demo and rehearsal songs as well as cover versions of IRON MAIDEN and MERCYFUL FATE) and liner notes by Chris Amott. "Embrace The Mystery & Three" isn't only an essential historical release for collectors of the mentioned main bands of the involved high-quality players but with its total of 26 tracks and 100-plus minutes of playing time it also represents a worthwhile purchase for supporters of the melodic metal genre in general!

JOE PERRY Says STEVEN TYLER \'Quit\' AEROSMITH
AEROSMITH guitarist Joe Perry told the Las Vegas Sun on Friday (November 6) that singer Steven Tyler quit the band following a recent concert in Abu Dhabi.
"Steven quit as far as I can tell," Perry said. "I don't know any more than you do about it. I got off the plane two nights ago. I saw online that Steven said that he was going to leave the band. I don't know for how long, indefinitely or whatever. Other than that, I don't know."
Part of the problem, Perry said, is that Tyler doesn't return his phone calls.
"He's notorious for that," Perry said. "That's one thing I've learned to live with. I try to overlook it. I like to pick my battles. Frankly, the last few months I've been wanting not to rock the boat. I don't want him canceling any more gigs. We really wanted to do these last four. We just kind of didn't want to call him out or anything and get him anymore pissed off, for whatever reason. So we just let things lie. So we did the gigs and, like I said, I got off the plane and saw this online. That's how I know about it."
Perry said he arrived home in Boston on Wednesday and read on the Internet that Tyler planned to leave the band.
"He has had no contact with me or the other band members," Perry said.
He says he hopes to keep AEROSMITH together, with or without Tyler, but he was so stunned by recent developments he doesn't know what's going to happen.
"Right now I'm adjusting to how we're going to go on," Perry said. "AEROSMITH is such a powerful band, I mean it's like a steam locomotive. You just can't disregard 40 years of four guys who play together as well as they do. We're just trying to — at least I am — trying to figure out what direction the band should take.
"As far as replacing Steve, it's not just about that, it's also four guys that play extremely well together, and I'm not going to see that go to waste. I really don't know what path it's going to take at this point, but we'll probably find somebody else that will sing in those spots where we need a singer and then we'll be able to move the Aerosmith up a notch, move the vibe up a notch."

DARK TRANQUILLITY\'s \'Where Death Is Most Alive\' Tops Swedish Music DVD Chart
"Where Death Is Most Alive", the new DVD from Swedish melodic death metallers DARK TRANQUILLITY, has entered the Music DVD chart in the band's home country at position No. 1.
Commented guitarist Niklas Sundin: "We are immensely pleased to report that the people of Sweden still have a great taste in music. Our 'Where Death Is Most Alive' DVD just premiered at the #1 spot on the official Swedish DVD charts, kicking the asses of such luminaries as ABBA, MICHAEL JACKSON and MADONNA.
"Needless to say, we're humbled by the great response the DVD is receiving, and judging by the reactions at last weekend's official theatre screening we definitely have a winner on our hands. Everyone involved invested a lot of time and effort into putting together a package that really would be special and that would live up to the high expectations people would have of a 20-year anniversary release such as this, so it's great to see that it paid off.
"Thanks to everyone that attended and to everyone that has purchased the DVD."

FEAR FACTORY Signs With CANDLELIGHT RECORDS
The new band calling itself FEAR FACTORY — featuring original FF members Dino Cazares (guitar) and Burton C. Bell (vocals) alongside bassist Byron Stroud (who played on the last two FEAR FACTORY albums in addition to touring and recording with STRAPPING YOUNG LAD and ZIMMERS HOLE) and legendary drummer Gene Hoglan (DETHKLOK, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, DARK ANGEL, DEATH, TESTAMENT) — will release its new studio album, "Mechanize", on February 9, 2010 via Candlelight Records. The CD, which was co-produced by the band with Rhys Fulber (FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, PARADISE LOST), was recently mixed by Greg Reely (PARADISE LOST, FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, SKINNY PUPPY). Songtitles set to appear on the album include "Industrial Discipline", "Powershifter" and "Fear Campaign".
"Mechanize" is a full-fisted blast of passion and innovation that sounds like the missing link between 1995's groundbreaking "Demanufacture" and 1998's more texturally nuanced "Obsolete", according to a press release. Songs like "Industrial Discipline" and "Powershifter" are crushing and colossal, melding fast and precise rhythms with vocals that pinwheel from raw and scathing to hauntingly melodic while "Fear Campaign", which features harrowing spoken word passages, quickly segues into a showcase of punishing beats, rapid-fire riffs and ghostly keyboards. For the first time in years, the band's industrial roots glimmer through its street-lethal metal, thanks in part to Fulber, who worked on FEAR FACTORY's popular industrial remix albums "Fear is the Mindkiller" and "Remanufacture".
"I didn't want any of the soundscapes to sound natural," says Bell. "I wanted them to be really mechanical because I wanted that aspect of FEAR FACTORY to really shine again. I feel it kind of got dulled over and that's the aspect that I really enjoyed a lot about FEAR FACTORY. I was a huge fan of industrial music and still am. And you don't hear much of that anymore these days."

IRON MAIDEN Heading To Paris To Write New Material
Guitarist Janick Gers of British heavy metal legends IRON MAIDEN revealed to BBC News that the band has already started writing songs for its 15th studio album. "We're going to Paris for three weeks to work on some new stuff," Gers said at the Classic Rock Roll Of Honour Awards 2009 on November 2 at the Park Lane Hotel in London, England. "The most important thing for a band is to create new music, otherwise you're not valid — you become a parody."
MAIDEN became the first outfit in history to travel round the world in a customized jet during their "Somewhere Back in Time" tour, as detailed in award-winning movie "Flight 666".

MUSTASCH Signs With NUCLEAR BLAST RECORDS
Swedish hard rockers MUSTASCH have inked a deal with Nuclear Blast Records. The band's self-titled album, which has already been released in Scandinavia, will be made available in the rest of Europe on January 8, 2010.
"We are thrilled about signing with Nuclear Blast; they are indeed the right record company for MUSTASCH," the group says in a statement.
"We are one of the biggest metal bands in Sweden and now when we have produced the strongest record in our career, we did want to find a partner to understand its potential to launch internationally, so within the wide networks of the biggest independent metal label in Europe, we definately feel comfort and stability.
"We are excited to the opportunity of being a part of the Nuclear Blast family.
"We knew that we were producing a MUSTASCH masterpiece when entering the studio. When we had recorded the first few tracks we did know that this was the strongest record we've ever done: It, of course, sounded heavy metal hard rock, but this time we were experiencing a heavy machine we'd never experienced before. It's the hardest record we've done but we've never been this proud.
"Our main plans after releasing the album successfully in the Nordic countries is to focus on Europe in 2010, we are focusing on extensive touring all over by February until summer to present the machine of MUSTASCH." | 0

SHAKRA Announce New Vocalist
Swiss rockers SHAKRA parted ways with singer Mark Fox in early June. The band have found a replacement and have issued the following statement:
"After many weeks of intensive searching for a new singer, we are now very happy to announce that we finally found our new frontman. It is Swiss guy John Prakesh who originates in India! John lives in Zuzwil (SG), is 30 years old and was the lead singer of the hard rock band Prakesh up to now.
John has left behind more than 100 competitors (some of them very prominent) and impressed us in many ways! ...We are totally delighted with the sound of John’s voice and his singing skills....He is a really nice, open-minded guy with a good sense of humor! We have now worked with John in the Studio as well as in the rehearsal room, and also had some longer conversations. We couldn’t be happier when looking ahead into the future!
The first show with the new formation will take place on the 8th of November in the TV-Broadcast Die Grössten Schweizer Hits, and we will rock some live- concerts starting in March 2010." | 0

TRIPTYKON Mixing Debut Album
Former CELTIC FROST and current TRIPTYKON frontman Tom Gabriel Fischer has issued the following update:
"This past Tuesday, I returned to Woodshed Studio in Bavaria, Germany, for the third time since we began studio work on TRIPTYKON's debut album, 'Eparistera Daimones', in summer. While briefly back in Zurich, I finalized the album's artwork, and we recorded the piano, violin, and female vocals that will be featured in some of the songs. As Nadine Rimlinger played the violin on Saturday, it was impossible not to feel transferred back to 1987, when we recorded the classical musicians for [CELCTIC FROST's] 'Into The Pandemonium'. Even though we are producing a much darker and heavier album this time around, some of the sounds created by Nadine were at times eerily reminiscent of such era past.
"The week in Zurich ended appropriately. Our friends in the incomparable PANTHEON I played in Zurich, and that same night, we made new friends in fellow touring act ZOROASTER, who sound much like a staggering, modern incarnation of HELLHAMMER.
"Now, back in Germany, we have commenced mixing the songs we recorded during prior sessions. It is a challenging and complex album to mix, not just because of its musical content. But this mixing session is at the same time also one of the most intriguing I have ever been a part of.
"This is an unusual album, for better or for worse, in a very distinctive context.
"It is winter here, cold, dark, and wet. An utterly perfect setting, then, for tomorrow's mixing session of 'The Prolonging', all 19 morbid, lumbering minutes of it."
"Eparistera Daimones" is being produced by Fischer and TRIPTYKON guitarist V. Santura. The album is currently scheduled for release in spring of 2010, through the group's own label, Prowling Death Records (home of HELLHAMMER and CELTIC FROST).

SLASH Wants People To Stop Asking Him If He'll Rejoin GUNS N' ROSES
VELVET REVOLVER/ex-GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash has told BBC 6 Music that he's taken his time telling people about the big names on his upcoming solo album. "I've been very low key on this, because I was waiting for all the releases for all the different singers, but some of the cats are out of the bag," he said. "There's a lot of people on the record."
Slash said it felt great to work on his own project, telling BBC 6 Music, "It's just nice to be in charge of my own destiny, even if it's just for one record. Just not to be in a group situation, and at the mercy of what everybody as a whole feels, but being responsible for my own decisions and having the final say. It's nice, 'cause I've been doing this diplomatic band stuff for so long, I needed to get it out of my system."
"As a musician, the more experience you get from playing with a lot of different people, the more you learn how to adapt. The other is perseverance — keep going no matter what. To establish in your mind what you're going to do, and you just keep plodding along. The longer you do it, the more you realize that you have a purpose."
Slash has another hope for his solo effort — that it might stop people asking him if he's going to rejoin GUNS N' ROSES. The guitarist told BBC 6 Music he's keen to put those days behind him. "I just feel for people that don't seem to get it. All things considered, it's been a really long time, and everybody's moved on. At the same time, I appreciate that I was part of a band that had such a huge impact and touched so many people, and I feel bad for them that it's not around — but it is what it is."

W.E.T.: \'Comes Down Like Rain\' Video Released
"Comes Down Like Rain", the new video from W.E.T., can be viewed here.
Frontiers Records has set a November 6 European release date (November 24 in the U.S.) for the self-titled debut album from W.E.T. as a special CD/DVD package.
Featuring the immense talents of singer/songwriter Jeff Scott Soto (TALISMAN); guitarist/songwriter Erik Martensson (ECLIPSE) and keyboardist Robert Sall (WORK OF ART), "(W)ork of art (E)clipse (T)alisman" was written and recorded over the last 12 months and features the best elements of the three bands the principal artists have been involved in.
Commented Erik: "In the beginning it was just a project set up by Frontiers, but somewhere along the process of making it, it evolved into something greater than the project we had started with. We had a fantastic flow in the songwriting and when Jeff recorded his lead vocals it all fell into place."
Added Jeff: "I'm very excited about the W.E.T. project. What a brilliant idea of Frontiers to put the three of us together. I think the album turned even better than we hoped for and I can't wait to see the reactions from the melodic rock fans. I'm really proud of this record and I think a lot of people are gonna 'wet' there pants once they get to hear it!"
He continued, "I knew this was the kind of album a LOT of people wanted me to make so I am quite hopeful it will be amongst one of the biggest things I have done in my career thus far. I have never heard or felt such a buzz for something I am a part of and I couldn't be more proud with my 'brothers in arms,' Erik and Robert, for helping create what shall hopefully become a classic masterpiece."
Regarding the band's future plans, Jeff said, "I believe if it does well enough, we would be silly not to take it on the road. Possibly start with a few select dates to get our feet 'wet,' then see what time and schedules permit. The thing to remember here is we are of three separate and completely different careers that are all currently in motion but in my heart of hearts, I feel this is the beginning of something that will be around for a while, not just a one-off!"

KALMAH\'s New Album Due In January/February
Finnish metallers KALMAH have completed work on their sixth album for a January/February 2010 release via Spinefarm Records. The CD, which has a working title of "12 Gauge", was recorded between June and August 2009 at Tico Tico studio in Kemi, Finland and was mastered at the Cutting Room in Sweden. Nine new songs and one cover version were laid down during the sessions which "went [smoothly], as always, even though this time the recordings were done in three different time periods within a half a year."
Regarding the new album's musical direction, lead guitarist Antti Kokko stated, "It is very KALMAH-like, but we haven't forgot to introduce new tuning here and there."
KALMAH was forced to cancel its previously announced shows at the Unirock Extreme Festival in Istanbul, Turkey and Nuclear Nightclub in Oulu, Finland due to a hand injury suffered by the band's guitarist/vocalist Pekka Kokko.
KALMAH's fifth studio album, "For The Revolution", was released in the U.K. in July 2008 via Spinefarm.
For the U.K. version of "Revolution", selected bonus audio/visual content was added to the mix, along with a slipcase bearing exclusive new artwork. The bonus audio track is a cover of SEPULTURA's "Arise", while on the visual side, "The Groan Of Wind" (a song from 2006's "Black Waltz") has also been included as an enhanced video.
"For the Revolution" in May 2008 landed at position No. 17 on the Finnish national album chart. This was the band's strongest chart showing to date in Finland. The CD's cover artwork was designed by former SENTENCED drummer Vesa Ranta, who was also responsible for the artwork of KALMAH's previous album, "The Black Waltz".

NORMA JEAN To Enter Studio In January
Atlanta-based post-hardcore rockers NORMA JEAN have inked a deal with Razor & Tie. The band will headline the "Explosions 2009" U.S. tour in November/December before entering the studio in January to begin recording a new album for a summer 2010 release. During the upcoming trek, NORMA JEAN will play its breakthrough album, "Bless The Martyr and Kiss the Child", in its entirety on select dates. This is the band's first headlining trek since the fall of last year and boasts an impressive lineup — HORSE THE BAND, THE CHARIOT and ARSONISTS GET ALL THE GIRLS — with a few surprises from the powerful live band.
Cory Brandan of NORMA JEAN comments, "If we didn't sign to Razor & Tie, I think we would have gone on a killing spree, with no regard for life or limb. I think for the first time in our career, upon presenting our ideas, we get to hear the word 'yes' more often. It's like discovering an unknown tribe on a distant island. Except we're the tribe and we don't know your language. Plus we have spears and swords and we're cannibals. Either way, we're insanely animated about R&T showing up and want to try on their Nike Air Jordans. "
NORMA JEAN has released four albums to date, with combined sales of over 360,000 copies. The band's last album, "The Anti Mother", debuted at #29 on the Billboard Top 200 Album Chart and received rave reviews, with Alternative Press calling it "ambitious and addictive." The CD featured Page Hamilton of HELMET as well as a collaboration with DEFTONES frontman Chino Moreno.
NORMA JEAN is
Cory Brandan (lead vocals/guitars)
Scottie Henry (guitars)
Jake Schultz (bass)
Chris Day (guitars)
Chris Raines (drums) | 0 | |
