CRYSTAL VIPER: \'Stronghold: Under Siege\' Video Released

"Stronghold: Under Siege", the new video from the Polish female-fronted "true heavy metal" act CRYSTAL VIPER, can be viewed below. The track was written for the Stronghold role-playing/dark fantasy game, which will come out later this month through Portal Publishing and their partners worldwide. The song was recorded at MP Studio in Poland with engineer Mariusz Pietka and producer Bart Gabriel.

LED ZEPPELIN, THE CLASH, PINK FLOYD Albums To Feature On Royal Mail Stamps

According to NME.com, LED ZEPPELIN, PINK FLOYD and THE CLASH are among the acts set to feature on a new range of Royal Mail stamps.

A set of 10 stamps featuring classic British album sleeves will enter circulation on January 7 next year, according to stamp collecting web site Norvic Philatelics.

Albums in the collection include "The Division Bell" by PINK FLOYD and "Led Zeppelin IV".

Royal Mail are said to have assembled a shortlist of classic albums, though initially some were deemed unusable due to the darkness of the image.

ARCHITECTS: \'Follow The Water\' Video Released

"Follow The Water", the new video from the British quintet ARCHITECTS, can be viewed below. The song comes off the group's most recent album, "Hollow Crown", which was produced by John D. Mitchell (BRING ME THE HORIZON, ENTER SHIKARI).

NOMINON Launches Vocalist Search

Swedish death metallers NOMINON have launched a vocalist search following the recent departure of Daniel Garptoft (who was in the band for five years). The band is seeking someone who "shares [its] vision of delivering disgusting death metal full of energy and hatred to all the inhabitants of the underground."

NOMINON will release a new mini-CD within the next couple of months, which will serve as "an appetizer" for the band's new album, to be made available early next year.

WOLFMOTHER: Entire New Album Available For Streaming

"Cosmic Egg", the second album from the Australian retro-rock combo WOLFMOTHER, is available for streaming in its entirety on the band's MySpace page. Due on October 27, the group's first CD since the departure of drummer Myles Heskett and bassist/keyboardist Chris Ross was recorded in Los Angeles with heralded U.K. producer Alan Moulder.

STATUS QUO: \'Pictures: Live At Montreux 2009\' DVD Coming This Month

On October 27, Eagle Rock Entertainment will add another gem to its stunning Montreux collection when STATUS QUO's "Pictures: Live At Montreux 2009" is released on DVD.

STATUS QUO's album "Pictures" (released in November 2008) celebrated 40 years of the band filling the U.K. charts with hit after hit. The album was an instant success, charting at #8 and selling over a quarter of a million copies in the U.K. alone. In July 2009, the "Pictures" live tour landed at Montreux in Switzerland as part of the world famous festival.

NOCTURNAL RITES Scraps South American Tour Plans, Continues Work On New Material

Swedish melodic metallers NOCTURNAL RITES have issued the following update:

"We are sorry to inform our South American fans that the [previously] announced tour will not happen. We are very sorry about this, but it was out of our hands and not our decision to make. We will try our best to organize something for next year. We have lined up a few other shows, though. More news on those at a later date."

NOCTURNAL RITES is currently writing material for the follow-up to 2007's "The 8th Sin". The band states, "We are slowly but steadily advancing and the new stuff is shaping up really nicely. We have some really dark and aggressive stuff written as well as some more melodic, so this new album will definitely cater to all aspects of the NOCTURNAL RITES legacy!

"We are really excited to record, but we've always said that we'll not rush things, so we'll take our time and make sure we are 100% on the money before we nail the songs in the studio."

NOCTURNAL RITES previously described the new songs as "a little back to the darker 'Afterlife' [2000] days mixed with some trademark NOCTURNAL RITES catchy melodies — those that can never go wrong!"

THE ETERNAL To Enter Studio In December

Australian atmospheric/gothic/doom metallers THE ETERNAL will enter 301 Studios in Byron Bay, Australia on December 3 to begin recording their new album for an early 2010 release. More information will be made available soon.

In other news, the song "To Drown" from THE ETERNAL's "Sleep Of Reason" album is featured in the motion picture "Tomboys". The band states, "It's the first time one of our songs has been in a feature-length film so make sure you check it out!"

NIGHTWISH Singer ANETTE OLZON Featured On New THE RASMUS Single

NIGHTWISH frontwoman Anette Olzon makes a guest appearance on "October & April", the new single from Finland's THE RASMUS, which is scheduled for release on November 11. The song, which is available for streaming below, has been sent to radio stations in Europe and the video for the track will premiere on October 23.

In a September 2008 interview with Italy's Musica Metal, THE RASMUS singer Lauri Ylönen stated that the idea for the song came to him nine years ago when Tarja Turunen was still the lead singer of NIGHTWISH, but he only got around to recording the track during the sessions for last year's "Black Roses" CD. "I actually asked Tarja, but she said no!" Lauri revealed. "Then I called Anette, and she was like, 'Yeah, I would love to sing a song with you, I'm a big RASMUS fan, actually two years ago before I joined NIGHTWISH, I was singing THE RASMUS songs in karaoke bars!' so we went with her."

"October & April" was not included on "Black Roses" because the CD was a concept effort and the song didn't fit in with the overall idea for the album. Instead, the track will make its debut on THE RASMUS' "Best of 2001-2009", a compilation of all the hit songs from their four latest albums, including the million-selling "In The Shadows", most of the singles and a few rarities.

DARK AGE Preparing To Release \'Acedia\'

Germany's modern melodic death metallers DARK AGE will release their sixth album, "Acedia", on November 13 via AFM Records. The CD was recorded at Eikey Studio (owned by the band's vocalist/guitarist Eike Freese) and will be available in a standard jewel case version as well as a limited digipack (including a bonus track). The artwork, which can be viewed below, was once again created by Niklas Sundin (of Cabin Fever Media and DARK TRANQUILITY). According to the group, "You can expect the typical DARK AGE melodies and some surprises in our sound as well, mainly because every band member was involved in the songwriting stronger than ever before."

SIGH: \'Scenes From Hell\' Artwork Unveiled

Japanese extreme metal band SIGH will release its eighth studio album, "Scenes From Hell", on January 19, 2010 via The End Records. The CD's cover artwork was designed by Eliran Kantor (TESTAMENT, AGHORA, TO-MERA, GWAR, SICKENING HORROR) and can be viewed below (courtesy of MetalSucks). The group states, "We're truly proud of the artwork. This is the perfect description of what the album is about — namely war, hell and death!"

SIGH's Mirai Kawashima recently stated about "Scenes From Hell", "We were supposed to finish mixing it by the end of June, but it was not easy at all. Of course I knew it'd be tough to mix all those orchestral instruments properly, but it was much harder than expected. The brass section sounds very powerful by itself. Guitar, bass and drums sound powerful enough by themselves. However, once all are mixed, they could often kill each other's powerfulness! After having gone through numerous trials and errors, we finally succeeded in getting the proper result. And the album has been mastered by Maor Appelbaum, who also mastered our tribute to VENOM. He has worked with such artists as Yngwie Malmsteen and Rob Halford, so he knows how to master the metal stuff! 'Scenes from Hell' definitely sounds powerful, symphonic and relentless. This is the musical description of hell!"

NOSTRADAMEUS To Release New Album In November

Swedish power metal band NOSTRADAMEUS will release its sixth album, "Illusion's Parade", on November 13 via AFM Records. The CD was once again produced by Anders "Theo" Theander at RoastingHouse Studios in Malmö, Sweden and "the result is a fresh mixture of speed, heaviness and thrilling intensity," according to a press release."

SCORPIONS Working On 12 New Songs

Veteran German hard rockers SCORPIONS recently spent time in the studio with Swedish producers Mikael "Nord" Andersson and Martin Hansen (the team behind THE RASMUS' "Dead Letters" CD) recording their new album for an early 2010 release.

"We are working on 12 songs at the moment," guitarist Mathias Jabs tells Scorps News. "Great stuff. Definitely 'Scorpionized' in sound and attitude. More towards the early Eighties."

Although SCORPIONS' new CD is tentatively due in Europe in March, a U.S. release date has yet to be pinned down. "Azoff Management [which represents SCORPIONS] is currently working on the [record] deal," Jabs says. "Simultaneous release is up to the record companies."

He adds, "The weak dollar has been a reason to delay the U.S. release in order to avoid bad imports in the 'rest' of the world, for all non-American bands in recent years."

SCORPIONS recently extended their record deal with Ariola, which is part of the international media conglomerate Sony BMG Music Entertainment

FEAR FACTORY: New Album Title Announced

The new band calling itself FEAR FACTORY — featuring original FF members Dino Cazares (guitar) and Burton C. Bell (vocals) alongside bassist Byron Stroud (who played on the last two FEAR FACTORY albums in addition to touring and recording with STRAPPING YOUNG LAD and ZIMMERS HOLE) and legendary drummer Gene Hoglan (DETHKLOK, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, DARK ANGEL, DEATH, TESTAMENT) — has set "Mechanized" as the title of its new CD, tentatively due in February 2010. "[The name] fits the vibe of the album very, very well," Bell told Sergio Alvite of Mexico's Search & Destroy in a brand new interview, which can be streamed using the audio player below.

The CD, which co-produced by the band with Rhys Fulber (FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, PARADISE LOST), was recently mixed by Greg Reely (PARADISE LOST, FRONT LINE ASSEMBLY, SKINNY PUPPY).

Regarding "Mechanized"'s musical direction, Bell said, "It has the raw aggression of what 'Soul Of A New Machine' [1992] was but it has... I would say it has the maturity of 'Obsolete' [1998]. When I say 'maturity,' I mean that it has the songwriting skills that 'Soul Of A New Machine' did not have whereas 'Obsolete' did."

GOTTHARD: \'Unconditional Faith\' Video To Debut Today

"Unconditional Faith", the new video from Swiss hard rock veterans GOTTHARD, will premiere at 7:00 p.m. CET on the band's MySpace page. The clip was shot in Zagreb, Croatia this past summer and it features performance footage filmed inside the boxing ring that was used in the film as well as clips from the actual movie in which box champion Henry Maske plays the title role of Max Schmeling.

DAVE MUSTAINE: Why MEGADETH\'s \'Endgame\' Is Better Than METALLICA\'s \'Death Magnetic\'

The September 2009 issue of U.K.'s Terrorizer magazine (see cover image below) includes an interview with MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine conducted by Jenn Selby. An excerpt from the chat follows.

Terrorizer: Is [MEGADETH's new album] "Endgame" better than [METALLICA's latest CD] "Death Magnetic"?

Mustaine: "Yes."

Terrorizer: Why?

Mustaine: "To me, one sounds like a record and the other sounds like a jam. Plus we have two lead guitar players. In METALLICA you've got one [referring to Kirk Hammett. — Ed], and he ripped me off anyway.

"I was just speaking to Lars [Ulrich, METALLICA drummer] about the [Rock And Roll] Hall Of Fame thing [Mustaine was invited to attend METALLICA's Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction in April, but didn't get inducted along with his former bandmates. — Ed.], and I said, 'You know what?! I don't give a fuck about you anymore.'

"I used to have this thing that I was secretly pining over one day, getting up there and playing with them again. And I'm thinking, what song would I play? And how could I even stand it?

"I like playing with guys who can keep time.

"I've heard people say that some of the best METALLICA songs they ever heard was when the guy from SLIPKNOT was playing the drums." (SLIPKNOT's Joey Jordison famously sat in for Ulrich when the METALLICA drummer fell ill and could not make it to U.K.'s Download festival in the summer of 2004.)

Mustaine was a member of METALLICA for around 11 months before being dismissed in 1983 and replaced by Hammett. He did not play on any METALLICA albums and did not attend their induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame earlier this year.

Mustaine went on to form MEGADETH. The band's 12th studio album, "Endgame", was released in September.

EXODUS Forced To Stop Venezuela Show After Crowd Breaks Barricade; Video Available

San Francisco Bay Area thrashers EXODUS were forced to halt their show last night (Tuesday, October 13) in Maracay, Venezuela for around 15 minutes after the crowd reportedly went nuts and broke the barricade in front of the stage.

Fan-filmed video footage of the incident, which occurred during the song "Fabulous Disaster", can be viewed here. (Note: EXODUS vocalist Rob Dukes can be seen/heard asking for the rest of the band to stop playing around the 3:30 mark.)

EXODUS is currently touring Mexico and South America with German thrashers KREATOR.

Nuclear Blast Records has set a January 15 release date for "Shovel Headed Tour Machine (Live At Wacken And Other Assorted Atrocities)" from EXODUS. The package will contain the band's July 2008 performance at Germany's Wacken Open Air festival, plus a documentary following the band through the last five years of touring as well as bonus footage, with photo galleries and all of the group's promotional videos. The set will consist of two DVDs plus an audio CD of the Wacken performance.

OPETH Tour Bus Crash Was No Accident

It turns out that the road collision that OPETH's tour bus was involved in earlier this week was no accident. Mikael Åkerfeldt, the guitarist/vocalist for the Swedish progressive metal band, who was not travelling on the bus at the time of the incident, writes on his MySpace page, "I just got a text from [Martin] Mendez [OPETH bassist] who's saying that the driver of the other car (who made the U-turn [in the middle of the highway]) that our bus crashed into, sadly passed away from his injuries. On top of that it seems as if it was a deliberate death stunt from his side as the police had found a suicide letter in the car wreck."

Mikael adds, "I've no idea who he was, but I have to say our condolences goes out to his family and loved ones."

OPETH's tour bus was travelling from Dublin, Ireland to Brussels, Belgium when the incident occurred.

Mendez and keyboardist Per Wiberg were the only two members of OPETH that were present on the bus at the time of the crash.

Åkerfeldt, drummer Martin "Axe" Axenrot and guitarist Fredrik Åkesson had opted to fly home to their families for a few days while the band had three days off before its next concert (October 17 in Brussels as part of the Progressive Nation 2009 tour with DREAM THEATER, BIGELF and UNEXPECT).

Members of BEHEMOTH, DIMMU BORGIR Hit Polish Chart With \'Black\'N\'Roll\'

"Black'N'Roll", the sophomore album from BLACK RIVER, the Polish rock band featuring Orion (BEHEMOTH, VESANIA), Daray (DIMMU BORGIR, ex-VADER), Taff (ROOTWATER), Kay (ex-NEOLITHIC) and Art (SOULBURNERS), has entered the national chart in the group's home country at position No. 20.

The follow-up to the band's 2008 self-titled debut, "Black'N'Roll" was recorded in Studio Sonus and Studio Gdansk and was engineered by Malta (BEHEMOTH). It consists of 11 adrenaline-fuelled songs in vein of THE CULT, MONSTER MAGNET and DANZIG. Kay states, "It has the taste of good whisky, it smells with sweat of girls dancing at the strip bar and with odor of car tires burnt on tarmac."

Alexi Laiho To Play Guitar For HYPOCRISY

Swedish death metallers HYPOCRISY have enlisted CHILDREN OF BODOM frontman Alexi Laiho to play guitar on their upcoming North American tour. Alexi will temporarily fill the currently vacant guitarist spot on the trek, which will also include headliners ENSIFERUM alongside EX DEO, BLACKGUARD and SWASHBUCKLE.

Commented HYPOCRISY mainman Peter Tägtgren: "We're very happy to bring Alexi along on this tour and that he's helping us out with filling the second guitarist position.

"Funny, the first CHILDREN OF BODOM show was a support gig for HYPOCRISY on the Nuclear Blast festival in '98. Since then, me and Alexi have become very good friends. I've helped him with producing and he's helped me by contributing a guitar solo on one of my records with my other band PAIN.

"There will be no shortage of alcohol on this tour, that's for sure."

ROB ZOMBIE Says New Album Is \'A Great Follow-Up\' To Original \'Hellbilly Deluxe\'

Rob Zombie's fourth solo studio album, "Hellbilly Deluxe 2: Noble Jackals, Penny Dreadfuls and the Systematic Dehumanization of Cool", will be released on November 17 via Geffen Records. "Hellbilly Deluxe" was the name of Zombie's first and most successful solo outing, issued back in 1998.

"The plan was always to make this kind of like the sequel to 'Hellbilly Deluxe', but I didn't want to force it," Zombie tells AOL's Noisecreep. "I always figure records dictate their own journey. You might say, 'Oh, we're going to write the heaviest thing ever.' But you get in there and, you know, you might write things that aren't heavy that are great, so you kind of go with it. But this one seems like a great follow-up to that record."

EYEHATEGOD Frontman To Release Limited-Edition Seven-Inch Single

Mike Williams, vocalist for EYEHATEGOD, OUTLAW ORDER and ARSON ANTHEM and author of "Cancer as a Social Activity: Affirmations of World's End", delivers anti-social misanthropic spoken-word and power electronics on a new limited-edition seven-inch single, available from Chrome Peeler Records.

Side Zero: "That's What the Obituary Said" is a spoken prose piece with ambient backing by Ryan McKern (Williams' bandmate in noise/electro punk duo called THE GUILT OF…). The other Side Zero: "Ten Suicides" was originally a BLOODYMINDED track with vocals by Mike Williams and now newly remixed by Mark Solotroff (INTRINSIC ACTION, BLOODYMINDED).

FIREBIRD Parts Ways With Bassist

FIREBIRD, the British power trio led by CARCASS/ex-NAPALM DEATH guitarist Bill Steer, has issued the following update:

"It is with sadness that we announce the departure of Smok Smoczkiewicz [bass] from FIREBIRD.

"This split has come quite unexpectedly, and is due to personal reasons.

"We would like to wish him the very best in all his endeavors. It's safe to say you'll be hearing more from this outstanding musician in the future.

"As our appearances at Loud Park [in Japan on October 17] and Damnation [in Leeds, U.K. on October 24] festivals are almost upon us, we have spoken to a couple of old friends who have kindly offered to help out. We'll give you more details shortly."
