MIDNATTSOL Take Home Metal Female Voices Festival \"Best Hope\" Award, Introduce New Guitarist
 Germany's MIDNATTSOL, featuring Norwegian vocalist Carmen Elise Espenaes, have issued the following update:

\'SPV- 25 & Alive\' Compilation Due This Month
 SPV Records has set an October 30 German reelase date (November 2 in the rest of Europe) for "SPV- 25 & Alive", a special sampler for a special year.
In 1984, SPV and Steamhammer were founded. Steamhammer immediately signed two influential bands — SODOM and DESTRUCTION — and SPV finalized distribution deals with such labels as Metal Blade, Century Media, Roadrunner and Noise.
Oer the years, SPV and Steamhammer gained more and more success with signings like MOTÖRHEAD, DIO, HELLOWEEN, WHITESNAKE and ALICE COOPER and new distribution labels like InsideOut and Epitaph.
Times are hard and SPV had to suffer from an insolvency in May this year. But with a clever insolvency company, help from Sony Music and the power of the people working at the firm, SPV is getting back on its feet.

M.A.N - New Album Due In March
 Swedish metallers M.A.N, the act featuring MNEMIC frontman Tony Jelencovich and members of TRANSPORT LEAGUE, have issued the following update:
"Recording done. Yes, we are in the last section of finalizing the recordings of our third album entitled Massive Audio Nerve. The recording has gone smooth and sounds raw and in your face. The songs are twisted, raw, catchy, funny, heavy, moody.., just the way that we wanted 'em. You people will be suprised how the FSQTS ( Full Scale Quarter Tone System) turned out. These parts will be historical, coz it hasen..t been done before in this way.
The album will now be mixed by Ulrich Wild who has been handeling productions for bands such as: PANTERA, DEFTONES, STAIND, STATIC-X, WHITE ZOMBIE and LIMP BIZKIT amongs others.

BON JOVI Announces Meadowlands Concerts, World Tour
 David J. Prince from Billboard.com is reporting:
BON JOVI, the enduring rock band with a name that's synonymous with its home state of New Jersey, today (October 22) announced a two year 2010-11 world tour at a press conference and concert performance at the Meadowlands Entertainment Complex. The Circle World Tour will be a globe-circling trek and include the two inaugural events at the soon-too-be-completed stadium that will be home to the Giants and Jets football teams.
Tickets for the May 24-25, 2010 concerts at the New Meadowlands Stadium go on sale on Saturday, October 31 at 10:00 a.m. EST.
The band will kick off its North American tour on Feb. 19 in Seattle, Wa. and plans 135 shows in 30 countries by the time it wraps up in 2011. The tour will include a a summer residency at London's O2 Arena venue starting next June.
Bon Jovi's most recent album, The Circle, is set for a November 10 release and promises a return to the more hard rock sounds which propelled the roup to stardom after a turn towards country music on Lost Highway.
At the announcement today, the band played a short set for 5,000 fans, contest winners and construction workers working on the new arena.
AEG Live, which worked with Bon Jovi on its last two tours, will once again serve as worldwide tour promoters for The Circle World Tour.

GUNS N\' ROSES And TRIXTER Members Added To LIBERTY N\' JUSTICE CD
 Retroactive Records and LIBERTY N' JUSTICE finally can reveal the final track listing for LNJ's new album, Light It Up! After months and months of revealing guest artists, the last song to be announced, 'Wrestling With God' will feature TRIXTER members Pete Loran and Steve Brown with a guest guitar solo by Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal of GUNS N' ROSES! The song once again was co-written by LNJ founder Justin Murr and Steve Brown (who all so produced the track). The disc was also produced by Vic Rivera, Mike Layne, CJ Snare (who all so pre-mastered the disc), and Stephen Chesney.
The album will be mastered by J. Powell at Steinhaus Mastering (who all so mastered the latest Bride CD, Mainline Riders, Saint amd who remastered Guardian's First Watch). THRESHOLD: \'New\' Song Posted Online
 U.K. progressive metallers THRESHOLD have posted the song "Smile At The Moon" on their MySpace page. According to the band, this is a new recording of an old track that was previously unreleased but was made available on THRESHOLD's limited-edition eight-disc box set, entitled "Paradox - The Singles Collection", which came out on October 12. The box contains eight singles with rare B-sides and a 20-page booklet.
The singles are presented in individual sleeves and housed in a black and silver box. The accompanying booklet features a number of previously unseen pictures, sleeve notes on every track and an introduction by Karl Groom.

RAGE: New Album Details Revealed
 German metallers RAGE will release their new album, "Strings To A Web", on February 5, 2010 via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was recorded at Twilight Hall Studio and was produced by Charlie Bauerfeind (BLIND GUARDIAN, HAMMERFALL). The cover artwork was created by Thomas Ewerhard (AVANTASIA, THERION), and it shows showing the soundchaser as a spider, caught in a web.
"I am really proud of the album, we hardly ever sounded more inspired and it is an absolute highlight in our career," says founding member, bass player and vocalist Peavy Wagner. Drummer André Hilgers adds, "This albums show all the different faces and characters and I call it the most enormous and multifarious record I ever recorded."
"Strings To A Web" includes melodic and anthemic tracks such as "Into The Light" and "The Beggar's Last Dime", as well as powerful thrashers like "Purified" and "Tomorrow Never Comes". But the heart of the record comes in the shape of the 16-minute masterpiece "Empty Hollow", a progressive fairytale that unites everything RAGE is about.
"You can compare 'Empty Hollow' to our 'Lingua Mortis Suite' from the 'Speak Of The Dead' record," says guitarist Victor Smolski. "This song was recorded with an orchestra and is divided into five parts.
"As a band we have discovered a lot of new possibilities and elements, even in Peavy's vocals, my way of playing guitar or the arrangements in André's drumming."
Dayal Patterson of the English magazine Metal Hammer decribed the record as an "intense, frantic and technical assault tempered by clean sung choruses and harmonies!" His spanish collegue Sergi Ramos of Metal Hammer stated, "Everything you love about today's RAGE sound plus a dose of old-school thrown in for good measure."
"Strings To A Web" will be released on vinyl, jewelcase and a special limited digibook with bonus material.

HELLOWEEN To Release \'Unarmed - Best Of 25th Anniversary\' In December
 Long-running German power metallers HELLOWEEN have teamed up with Sony Music in co-operation with SPV Records, to release the band's upcoming albums. The group's long awaited "Unarmed - Best Of 25th Anniversary" album will be made available on the following dates:
Dec. 16 – Japan, Southeast Asia (JVC/Victor)
Jan. 29 - Europe (Sony/SPV)
The U.S. release date has yet to be announced.
The band says, "'Unarmed - Best Of 25th Anniversary' is a big 'thank-you' to all our fans, old and new, all over the world! Instead of putting together a regular greatest-hits compilation featuring our most successful tracks to celebrate this anniversary, we completely rearranged and re-recorded the greatest songs and melodies of our career. Together with our tried and tested producer, Charlie Bauerfeind, we invited many great musicians to guest on this special record, with the doubtless highlight of having the 70-piece Prague Symphonic Orchestra performing 'The Keeper's Trilogy', a 17-minute medley consisting of the songs 'Halloween', 'Keeper Of The Seven Keys' and 'The King for A 1000 Years' — goose bumps guaranteed!

DIMMU BORGIR Frontman, Ex-GORGOROTH Bassist Join Forces In OV HELL
 Out of Norway's biggest and darkest metal bands rises OV HELL. This group of Satan's all-stars has been sharpening their teeth in some of black metal's most influential bands for many years. Known as key figures in bands such as DIMMU BORGIR and GORGOROTH, Shagrath and King have come together to bring forward a new chapter in Norwegian black metal history. OV HELL will carry on in the same tradition for which King and Shagrath are known, but the collaboration between the two will mark a new era for them both.
Frost, Ice Dale and Teloch have been recruited for the first full-length release. The album, whcih is due in early 2010 via Indie Recordings, will contain all of the power and blast beats worthy of their evil pedigrees. Expect an assault on all false gods and hypocrisy that is of this world today.
"The first OV HELL release will contain music I've worked on in my GORGOROTH and GOD SEED years," says King. "It's been a little hell to actually see this music form into a band, so the name of the band is quite suitable. Through the first song I got from Shagrath, I knew that he would be the perfect man to join forces with. He has strong individual qualities and a strong will to power. I am very positive that when we finish up this album it will be an album that won't sound like anything we have done before, and with a quality that won't stand back from anything presented in black metal earlier!"
"With both of our demanding music careers and other projects, timing was not on our side," adds Shagrath. "After last year's Inferno festival, King and I yet again joined forces to brainstorm our need to collaborate our passion for dark art. Over the course of the past year, King sent me demo ideas that were so inspiring it made me put my skeptic feelings aside. I wasn't sure if I wanted to have another black metal project but my unquenchable thirst to explore my darkest beast launched the birth OV HELL. The majestic OV HELL has become a band that reflects our roots, raw, ugly, arrogantly blasphemous with uncompromising truth from two influential Norwegian musicians needing to express our primitive side, straight out OV HELL."

TARJA TURUNEN - \"Thank You Winter Storm\"
 TARJA TURUNEN (ex-NIGHTWISH) has issued the following blog entry:
"The long touring and the promotion for the debut album are over. Has been amazing to sing for you all. Magnificent tours, beautiful places, caring and helpful people, great opportunities, many memories.
I will never ever forget this excellent beginning for my solo career. I am so happy to realize my dreams.
Let me go back and tell you about the last days of the final tour.
Like one year ago, my show in Sofia was a great success. It is very hard for me still to understand how on earth it is possible to have such an amazing audience in Bulgaria! The venue was once again totally crowded with singing and cheering people. All having big smiles on their faces during the whole concert. The band was SO happy and oh gosh, it was a thrill. One of the best audiences in the world, for sure.
How funny it was to travel from summer and being in the beach, to fall and few hours later to have already snow all over the place…
The summer was definitely left behind and cold weather waited for us when we arrived to Ljubljana, Slovenia. Local people told us though that only few days earlier it was still enough warm to swim in the ocean…it was VERY hard to believe that. It was damn cold.
I didn’t remember the venue until I went there and saw that it was going to be an open-air concert… with only few degrees above 0°!!!!!
Everybody in the band needed to prepare himself well for the cold air, but who was freezing the most, was Mike. Having shorts on... his hands got so frozen that he needed to have a blow dryer to warm them while he was playing! Can you imagine that? A blow dryer? Poor Mike.
I was having fun though, despite of the cold air. People seemed to be totally frozen as well, even though I tried my best to make them move.
Anyway, it was a nice return to Slovenia. I honestly didn’t remember how beautiful the city of Ljubljana really is.
Czech audience has always accepted me well. This time was no difference. It was just a dream come true again. The venue was packed and we had a lot of fun performing.
For my surprise I received a gold award from the sales of My Winter Storm in Czech Republic and it was given to me during my show. It was very touching moment. I am truly proud and happy with my relation with Czech people. Thank you very much for the support.
I got a chance to visit famous Bruges on the day of the show in Metal Female Voices Festival in Belgium. I took a train from Aalst to Bruges and enjoyed the day drinking hot chocolate and taking wonderful pictures. The city of Bruges is unreal, with its old houses and colourful little boutiques. I enjoyed the visit very much.
I am always happy to return to MFV festival. There are many lovely people around. I got an honour to perform with lady DORO PESCH two songs and we did well together. This time it was a bigger pleasure, since we had performed those songs already once before long ago, it was easier to enjoy the music now. People received us very well. Once again I got totally surprised by the new MFV award that I was given during my set. Fans had voted me in a category of “the best and the most beautiful voice”. I was so overwhelmed by this, that I forgot completely the lyrics for the next song I needed to sing... hehe.
I want to thank everybody at the festival for this honour, for the love and support.
The last show for the tour was in London. Everybody in the band was excited about this particular show.
Feelings were mixed, with lots of happiness but sadness as well. I saw that people in the band were very quiet before the last show and it showed me that we had done well.
The show was amazing ending for the tour. Oliver had his birthday again and received a cake from us. I guess it was a tasty one, since I saw only bits and pieces of it after the show...
We had to share some tears when everything was finally over. I was very, very happy, but on the other hand very sad, since I am really going to miss all this. I am missing my band already! Sounds silly, but it’s all true.
Touring with My Winter Storm was just amazing, beautiful experience for me. I have been blessed with lovely people working with me. THANK YOU MIKE, MAX, ALEX, CHRISTIAN, OLIVER, DOUG, MARIA, KIKO, MARKUS and TONI and for making my dream come true. Not forgetting all the crewmembers that were helping and working very hard for us on our journey. Just know, you are all in my heart.

STRATOVARIUS Celebrates 50th Show With New Guitarist Matias Kupianen
 bassist Lauri Porra issued the following update on October 14th:
"Today we celebrate the 50th show of Matias Kupianen.
Matias has truly gone a long way since the time we took him to Lappajärvi to try the new Polaris material one and a half year ago. He has shown not only to be a great guitarist, composer and a performer but also a great guy and a true member of the band. I (Lauri) cannot remember when was the last time I had such great time on tour. I really hope all of you enjoy his presence and music as much as we do."
We had a fantastic time playing at the packed The End club in Buenos Aires, Argentina. We thank you all from the depths of our hearts."
BW&BK recently caught up with Stratovarius frontman Timo Kotipelto to discuss the band's new album, Polaris, their first without guitarist / songwriter Timo Tolkki. A new excerpt from the interview is available below:
Polaris is new territory for Kotipelto, Johansson and Michael. They had free reign to compose and arrange material as they saw fit, responsible only to themselves rather than having to concern themselves with how “the boss” (ex-guitarist Timo Tolkki) would feel about their ideas. An odd and slightly unnerving position to be in according to Kotipelto.
“In the beginning there was a sense of freedom, of course, but because Timo composed almost everything before we weren’t sure of how the new album would sound. We didn’t plan on having these kinds of songs. We just put some ideas together and this is what happened. It worked out pretty well having four composers on this album, and even though Joerg didn’t write anything he was involved in arranging the songs. I don’t know how the fans will react, but there were some negative reactions from the beginning because Timo is no longer involved. The fans were afraid of how the album would sound without him, but hopefully they will be pleasantly surprised when they hear it.”

 "October & April", the new video from Finland's THE RASMUS which features a guest appearance by NIGHTWISH frontwoman Anette Olzon, can be viewed below. Scheduled for release on November 11, the single was sent to radio stations in Europe last week.

ARCH ENEMY: \'Dark Insanity\' Live Video Posted Online
 An ARCH ENEMY live video for the song "Dark Insanity" (originally featured on the "Tyrants Of The Rising Sun - Live In Japan" DVD), can be viewed below. The track is one of a number of cuts that were re-recorded for the band's "The Root Of All Evil" album, which has registered the following first-week chart positions:
Germany: #84
Sweden: #69
Japan: #7 (international artist chart)
Japan: #21 (combined chart)
"The Root Of All Evil" sold around 1,500 copies in the United Staes in its first week of release, according to Nielsen SoundScan. It features re-recorded versions of songs from the band's first three LPs — "Black Earth" (1996), "Stigmata" (1998) and "Burning Bridges" (1999). Acclaimed British producer Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, TESTAMENT, EXODUS) mixed and mastered the CD, which was recorded at a few different locations in Sweden and produced by ARCH ENEMY with Daniel Erlandsson and Rickard Bengtsson handling the engineering.

GRAVE DIGGER Taps DOMAIN Guitarist For Upcoming Shows
 German heavy metal veterans GRAVE DIGGER have tapped DOMAIN's Axel Ritt to handle the guitar duties for the band on their upcoming live shows.
GRAVE DIGGER mastermind Chris Boltendahl and Ritt have known each other for about two decades, but this will be the first time they will perform together in the same band.
Ritt's first rehearsal with GRAVE DIGGER took place yesterday and it was "a blast," according to a press release from the DOMAIN camp.

NIGHTWISH Singer Wants 10 - 11 Songs On Solo Album
 IGHTWISH singer Anette Olzon is currently in Stockholm, Sweden working on her upcoming solo album. She checks in with the following update:
"Back at the hotel after a long day again. Today we worked really hard again and even if we all said we felt a bit more tired, the music still flowed. And I think its just fine to be a bit tired after just popping out music, lyrics and ideas all the days and nights.
In the studio there are some nice dogs too and today I was the playmate of this little precious one you can see in the collage. He wanted me to throw and he'd fetch over and over and over ;=)
Today we just did some first recordings on two more songs and its just so we can go home and listen and make changes in lyrics etc. We also started working on 2 more ideas and I like the fact that we have done some different songs when it comes to tempo etc. In the end I want 10 or 11 songs and its good if we have at least 15 - 16 to choose from when that day comes.
Tomorrow is the last day for this session and next week my son has his school holiday so no studio for me then, but the week after I'll be here 4 days again.
Now I ordered myself some room service and then I'll try and rest and sleep a bit.
You all sleep really well too."

"They are incredibly talented and the ideas they do are just amazing and they are so humble and sweet guys. Its a blessing to work with these boys."

KOTTAK - Reissues From SCORPIONS Drummer Due In 2010
 Blastzone Entertainment has announce the re-release of the first two KOTTAK (formerly Krunk) CDs (Greatist Hits and Therupy) (both intentionally misspelled) to be released on S.N.U.G. Records/Blastzone Entertainment in 2010. Kottack features James Kottak, drummer of the SCORPIONS on lead vocals & guitar, and Athena (sister of Tommy Lee) on drums.
