GORGOROTH Put The Boots To A Boot

Guitarist Infernus from Norwegian black metallers GORGOROTH has issued the following update:

"According to several major online retailers, a new Gorgoroth CD called Forces Of Satan Storms is supposed to be released on January 26th, by a company called IMV Blueline. This has understandably led to some confusion, as no such release has been announced on the official Gorgoroth website. I would therefore like to make it clear to all that this CD is to be considered a bootleg, as it has not been sanctioned by the band. Also, to the best of my knowledge, this CD has been successfully stopped and will not be released at all."

VEIL OF MAYA Completes Work On New Album

Chicago-based metallers VEIL OF MAYA have completed work on their new album, "[id]" , for an April release via Sumerian Records. The CD was produced by Michael Keene (THE FACELESS), who previously worked with the group on its last album, 2008's "The Common Man's Collapse". A brand new song from "[id]" will premier the second week of February on MySpace. Until then, you can hear a couple of new tracks live on the band's headline tour with support from ANIMALS AS LEADERS, CIRCLE OF CONTEMPT and PERIPHERY. VEIL OF MAYA will also take part in this year's Atticus Metal Tour II alongside UNEARTH, STICK TO YOUR GUNS, THE GHOST INSIDE and CARNIFEX.

"The Common Man's Collapse" was previously described in a press release as "replete with swift and fluid guitar flourishes, spitting forth notes like lava, lock step drumming that is swifter than a hummingbird's wings and vocals that range from Cro-Magnon throat tones to bestial rage while retaining enunciation."

GEMINI FIVE: New Demo Track Available For Streaming

A new GEMINI FIVE demo track entitled "If The Good Die Young" is available for streaming on the band's MySpace page. The track is expected to appear on the Swedish hard rockers' forthcoming fourth album, which is currently being recorded at Sweet Studio with Martin Sweet (CRASHDIET) and bandmembers Hot Rod and Tin Star handling the production duties.

REDEMPTION Guitarist / Founder Issues Update On Cancer Treatment - \"All Good News\"

REDEMPTION guitarist / founder Nick van Dyk has issued the following message to the fans following reports that he is battling cancer:

"Hello friends. Thank you very much for all the expressions of concern and well-wishes. It has been a rough year behind me, but I believe I am on the mend. I went for the most aggressive treatment possible with the hopes of killing the disease, and right now there is no trace of the disease left in me. I remain on three kinds of medicine for the next three years, and I will be glad when I don't need to take it -- but in the meantime the hope is it will keep my body toxic enough to kill off any remaining cancer cells. As of now, while it's certainly not a guarantee, there is a pretty good chance that I have been cured, so long as I can tolerate this ongoing treatment.

Thanks again very much for your concern -- I hope to see many of you soon as we play out in support of Snowfall on Judgment Day."

Atlanta's SEVENDUST has finished mixing its new album, "Cold Day Memory", for a tentative spring release. The band says, "The first single will be announced soon and we'll leak a track for our hardcore fans that have been waiting."

CRASHDIET: \'Reborn In Sleaze\' Tribute Album In The Works

Street Symphonies Records has begun to work on "Reborn In Sleaze: A Tribute To Dave Lepard". Ten of sleaze rock's hottest bands will contribute to a special re-recording of CRASHDIET's "Rest In Sleaze" LP to pay tribute to singer David Hellman (a.k.a. Dave Lepard), who committed suicide in January 2006 at the age of 25. The album will feature exclusive recordings by PEEP SHOW, JOHNNY BURNING, SEX SLAVES and KILLER KLOWN. More bands will be announced soon. The tribute album will be released sometime in 2010.

Street Symphonies Records is the only Italian record label dedicated exclusively to glam/sleaze/hard rock.

CRASHDIET has set "Generation Wild" as the title of its third album, due late March via Gain Records. The 10-song CD was helmed by RamPac, the production and songwriting team formed by Johan Ramström and Patrik Magnusson, in Gröndal, Sweden and was mixed by Tobias Lindell. The title track will hit Swedish radio stations later this month. Other songtitles set to appear on the album include "Native Nature", "Chemical", "Rebel" and "Down With The Dust".

CRASHDIET last year announced the addition of Simon "Simme" Cruz from the Stockholm act JAILBAIT as the group's new lead singer.

The band parted ways with its last vocalist, the Finland-based H. Olliver Twisted, in July 2008.

WYRD Sign To Moribund Records; Working On New Album

Moribund Records has announced the signing of Finland's WYRD, one of the underground's preeminent pagan metal bands.

Formed and fronted by erstwhile AZAGHAL guitarist Narqath, for the past decade Wyrd have released eight full-length albums, each one more celebrated than the next, on a number of cult underground labels, including Avantgarde, Solistitium, Millenium Metal Music, Omvina, and Naga Productions.

Now, Narqath brings his muse and Wyrd to Moribund Records, and is currently working on the band's ninth full-length album, to be titled Death Of The Sun - a release for the latter half of the year is tentatively planned.

Narqath also intimates that plans are afoot for a professional promo video, and that mixing/mastering chores for Death Of The Sun will likely be a high-profile metal producer. More info coming soon.

KIUAS Completes Work On New Album

Finnish power metallers KIUAS have finsihed mixing and mastering their fourth album for an April 1 release via Spinefarm Records. The CD was produced at Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki by Janne Joutsenniemi, who previously worked with the band on the pre-production of their last album, "The New Dark Age". Mikko Karmila mixed the CD at Finnvox studios while the mastering duties were handled by Svante Forsbäck at Chartmakers.

DOFKA - New Album Due In February; Details Revealed

West Virginia-based metallers DOFKA have been hard at work promoting music from their upcoming CD with a successful string of performances in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. But there was also something else: We want to end the Scorpion’s extraordinary career on a high note. We are extremely grateful for the fact that we still have the same passion for music we’ve always had since the beginning. This is why, especially now, we agree we have reached the end of the road. We finish our career with an album we consider to be one of the best we have ever recorded and with a tour that will start in our home country Germany and take us to five different continents over the next few years.

LINKIN PARK Breaking New Ground On Forthcoming Album

LINKIN PARK co-frontman Mike Shinoda spoke to MTV News earlier this week about the band's much-anticipated follow-up to 2007's "Minutes to Midnight", which has been in the works for more than a year now.

"The album is going really well — we decided to go with [producer] Rick Rubin again, he's been in the studio with us," Mike said. "And we've been working in a different studio than we did the last record in, we decided to go back to the studio we did 'Hybrid Theory' and 'Meteora' in. It's been going great, I feel like it's an entirely different process and an entirely different style of music than anything we've done before. It's hard to place. People keep asking me, 'What does it sound like?' and it's hard to describe. When people hear it, they're going to have a tough time saying that it falls into a category.

"I'll say this: I think on the last record there was a lot of personal growth that happened. We individually broke down a lot of boundaries — creatively and personally — with each other. We were friends making an album together — it wasn't painful and heart-wrenching the way some of the other records were," he added. "We had a really good time making 'Minutes to Midnight', and now I feel like we've grown from that point, where we've kind of knocked down the boundaries to a place where we're making an album that has a sound, that has a consistent thread running through it, and we're making something with this open-minded creativity that feels good."

CATAMENIA - New Songs Streaming Online

Finnish black metallers CATAMENIA will be releasing their new album, Cavalcade, on February 26th via Massacre Records on regular CD and limited digipak.

Four new tracks are currently streaming at this location.

The album was recorded and mixed by Kari Vähäkuopus at Mastervox Studios, Oulu, Finland and produced by Catamenia.

All music and lyrics were written by the band except the covers of 'Angry Again' by MEGADETH and 'Farewell' by SENTENCED.

SOLUTION .45 Parts Ways With Keyboardist

Swedish/Finnish progressive metal "supergroup" SOLUTION .45, which features in its ranks former SCAR SYMMETRY vocalist Christian Älvestam, and Jani Stefanovic (MISERATION, ESSENCE OF SORROW), has parted ways with keyboardist Mikko Härkin (ex-SONATA ARCTICA, KOTIPELTO). The band states, "Mikko, unfortunately, did not want to contribute to SOLUTION .45 as a full time member and since this is a full-time band, we decided to part ways with him. Mikko still contributed keyboards to the [debut SOLUTION .45 album], but he will be regarded as a guest musician on the album rather than a band member."

The group adds, "We are not quite sure what the future will hold as far as the keyboard situation, but we will back-track Mikko's parts for the live setting and continue as a five-piece for now."

SOLUTION .45's debut CD was recorded at Panic Room studios in with producer Tomas "Plec" Johansson. The album, which features lyrics written entirely by Mikael Stanne of DARK TRANQUILLITY, will be released in Europe via AFM Records and in Japan through Marquee/Avalon. The cover artwork was created by Pär Olofsson.

Commented the band: "We are beyond relieved to have finished this album, which took about three months of pre-production, three months of recording and an extremely hectic month of mixing and mastering. However, we are very pleased with the results."

Regarding Mikael Stanne's contribution to the CD, Älvestam previously stated, "I've personally been a huge fan of [Stanne's] earlier work and writing skills for quite some time now, so it's a great honor and privilege to have him aboard. However, I still compose[d] the vocal arrangements and melodies for the album, so do not fear in that regard.

"Why don't I write the lyrics myself, you may wonder? The thing is, over the years I've kind of lost the spark, or the driving force (or whatever you'd like to call it), needed in order to write lyrics good enough to satisfy my inner critic. However, on an impulse, I can still write some decent stuff every now and then, but unfortunately, these occasions have grown further and further apart over the last couple of years. Therefore I rather delegate this duty to more suitable people nowadays, who I know can deliver the goods, so to speak."

Älvestam previously stated about SOLUTION .45: "Since I'm responsible for introducing the multi-vocal style in SCAR SYMMETRY, as well as writing like 75% of all the vocal-melodies and 90% of all the growled parts, you will most likely recognize the style and hooks in SOLUTION .45. I've been writing and doing these multi-vocals since the early '90s in several bands (such as UNMOORED, SOLAR DAWN and SCAR SYMMETRY, to name a few) and since this style very much reflects who I am, musically, I have no plans abandoning it any time soon! All the aforementioned bands have vocally been a lengthening of my urge to write and experiment with these different vocal styles and hooks and SOLUTION .45 feels very much like the next natural step, in this 15-year long journey, starting back in 1993 with the birth of UNMOORED! It's been a while since it felt this inspiring and rewarding though!"

ABSCESS: New Album Artwork Unveiled; Audio Samples Available

ABSCESS, the California-based band consisting of Chris Reifert (drums/vocals; ex-DEATH/AUTOPSY), Clint Bower (guitar/vocals; ex-HEXX), Danny Coralles (guitar; ex-AUTOPSY), and Joe Allen (bass; ex-VON), will release its eighth album, entitled "Dawn Of Inhumanity", on March 9 in the U.S. and March 15 in Europe. The CD will once again be made available through Tyrant Syndicate Productions, the label headed up by DARKTHRONE guitarist/vocalist Nocturno Culto.

"Dawn Of Inhumanity" was recorded at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California with engineer Adam Munoz and is described in a press release as "an unrivalled nightmare of raw experimental extremity. Including special guest vocal appearances by the DARKTHRONE duo, this is twisted, dirty punk death without limits!" The cover artwork was created by U.S. artist Dennis Dread (DARKTHRONE, AUTOPSY), with booklet art courtesy of Chris Reifert himself.

Commented Reifert: "We really have gone beyond anything we did before.

"The challenge is to keep the core or the heart of the monster intact by retaining the original ABSCESS anger. To take that infection and move it into an immeasurable space. I think we have found that place. I think we might find you in there somewhere.

"I have to say that this time around, we went in with an almost surgical approach, meaning that not only were the songs carefully put together riff wise, but we plotted and planned out every little detail to make each song an important piece of the puzzle. There is some serious hallucinogenic depth in there!

"The album was constructed in a way that is meant to take you on a trip to a dark and disturbing world in which your ordinary daily world has no place. The songs form one solid vibe when heard from start to finish, as opposed to each one being a disposable piece that can be consumed and thrown out after a listen or two.

"'Dawn Of Inhumanity' is a true album in every sense. Not to mention it's heavy as hell!"

OZZY OSBOURNE Scraps Album Title, Says OZZFEST Will Return This Summer

Ozzy Osbourne has scrapped "Soul Sucka" as the working title of his new solo album. "When we put that on the Internet none of my fan base liked the title," Osbourne tells RollingStone.com. "They were like, 'I can't imagine me walking around the fucking house with the words 'Soul Sucka' on my T-shirt.' So I was like, 'Fuck it. I've got to come up with something else!'" The now-untitled set is due out in July, the same month Osbourne says that Ozzfest will return after a one-year break. "After Ozzfest I'm doing the most extensive tour of my life," he says. "It'll be something like, 3,025 dates."

GILBY CLARKE Recovering At Home

Former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Gilby Clarke is recovering at home from injuries he sustained in a hit-and-run accident on his motorcycle on Sunday, January 10. He suffered three broken bones in his left foot/ankle and a broken bone in his right foot. He had one successful surgery last week, which "went well," he writes on his blog. He adds, "If everything looks good Friday, I can have the second surgery next week."

Former MTV "Headbangers Ball" host Riki Rachtman posted a message on Twitter last week asking people to contact him if they know anything about the accident.

According to Riki, the incident occurred at around 5 p.m. PT when Clarke was making his way through Sherman Oaks, California. "He was riding south on Woodman and at the intersection of Moorpark, some idiot turned left right in front of him," Rachtman explained. "Gilby hit the passenger side of the vehicle. The driver took off."

He added, "Here is what we know so far. [The vehicle was a pickup] truck, light color tan perhaps silver. There was a male driver and possibly a female passenger [who] could be Hispanic, but not sure. The truck looked fairly new and has damage on the passenger side."

SOILWORK: New Album Title Revealed

Swedish metallers SOILWORK have set "The Panic Broadcast" as the title of their new album, due later in the year via Nuclear Blast Records.

Commented vocalist Björn "Speed" Strid: "I'm so stoked about his record, and I feel it's gonna be quite a challenge for everyone in the band.

"So how does it sound? Here's my personal take: to use an old cliche, it's bigger than life! Seriously, if any of you missed some of the intricate riffing that makes SOILWORK so unique, you won't be disappointed. I find these songs very playful and because we're not cutting down on anything — no 'too much information,' no 'less is more' — they're just pure musical joy with no boundaries. And THAT, to me, is what this band is all about! Of course, there'll be some surprises as always, and giving every one of us the freedom to go apeshit will without a doubt yield a heavy-as-fuck and naturally catchy album.

Former BROKEN HOPE Vocalist Dead At 37

Joe Ptacek, former vocalist of the long-defunct 1990s Illinois death metal band BROKEN HOPE, died last night (Wednesday, January 20) of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was 37 years old.

Former BROKEN HOPE guitarist Jeremy Wagner has released the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET regarding Ptacek's passing:

"It's with profound sadness and shock that [I report that] my friend and former bandmate — Joe Ptacek — has died.

"As of late, Joe was positive, healthy and had a mature and humble attitude that made me happy to see.

"I'm thankful to have known him in my lifetime and to have traveled many a mile and share many a stage with such an original character. Why he chose to take his life, I'll never even begin to fathom, but I pray he's in a better place.

TO/DIE/FOR: \'Best-Of\' Collection To Include New Song

Finnish gothic metallers TO/DIE/FOR will release a "best-of" collection, "Epilogue From The Past - Best Of", on January 27 via Spinefarm Records. Included on the set will be a brand new song, "Angelica", which is slated to appear on the group's next studio album.

GUS DRAX: Two Songs From Solo Album Posted Online

22-year-old Greek guitarist Gus Drax (BIOMECHANICAL, PARADOX) has posted two songs — "Kiss Of Life" and "In Loving Memory" — from his upcoming solo album, "In Search Of Perfection". The CD will feature guest appearances by keyboardist/guitarist Bob Katsionis (FIREWIND, OUTLOUD) and Steve Smyth (FORBIDDEN, ex-NEVERMORE, TESTAMENT).
