GAEREA Release "To Ain" Music Video

Cathartic black metal outfit, Gaerea, have released a video for "To Ain", featured on their upcoming Limbo album. Watch the clip below.

Says the band: "'Slaves of our own creation' and the dismantlement of the lost society in its most natural and organic form. A majestical Ode to the Nightmare of Existence and all its flaws. 'To Ain' is for all of you forgotten souls who have fallen into the most morbid and putrid Hole. A Place so below you might never reach to the surface again. Towards the Earth. Wondering the Abyss, To Ain. Being this song one of the most raw and intimate pieces Gaerea has ever written, this visual content serves its unique purpose of bringing the most grotesque truth upon us all. In this One Single Shot Performance we embrace what really makes us human: our Agony towards our very last breath. With no Gimmicks, no cuts, no edits, let this performance show you a brighter glimpse of what we feel, cry and crawl among our Fallen, Vast, Void Society."

Limbo will be released on July 24 via Season Of Mist, making it the band's debut to the label. You can pre-order the new album here.

The cover arwtork for Limbo was created by Eliran Kantor.

IMONOLITH Featuring DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT, THREAT SIGNAL Members Release Quarantine Sessions Video For "The Reign"

This week’s “Quarantine Sessions” video from Canadian all-star modern metal band Imonolith, “The Reign,” is now available.

Imonolith’s “Quarantine Sessions” videos are released every Monday, and with “The Reign,” Imonolith has released playthroughs for more than half of their debut album, State Of Being. Each “Quarantine Session” is followed on Tuesday by an Instagram live chat with members of the band. Tune in to Imonolith’s live feed on Instagram tomorrow at 3:30 PM, EDT/12:30 PM, PDT to discuss the playthrough video and much more.

Drummer Ryan “RVP” Van Poederooyen comments on the latest “Quarantine Session”:

“It’s Monday, which means it’s time for a brand new ‘Quarantine Session’ from Imonolith! These videos have been a great way to give you all a glimpse into how we play these songs since we cannot tour at the moment. 2020 has been a tough year for the entire world in so many different ways. We’re hoping these playthrough videos will help entertain and get you guys through these tough times, even if just a little bit.

"This week we are releasing the heaviest playthrough song off of our debut album State Of Being. This beast of a song is called ‘The Reign.’ This is by far the heaviest and most brutal track on our album. We have a special guest appearance by the incredible Jens Kidman from Meshuggah. It was an honor to have Jens guest on this song. He absolutely killed his vocal guest appearance and hearing his voice along with Jon’s vocals was surreal and crushing all in one. Intense would be the best single word to describe ‘The Reign.’ It’s fast at times but it maintains a heavy hypnotic groove throughout. Our goal was to create an intense song from start finish that you could still move to... I think we accomplished that goal

"Lyrically the song is about being yourself and not conforming to what society or others think you should be. Don’t conform to ‘The Reign,’ which is basically peer pressure from society. You have one life to live, make the most of it doing what YOU want to do with your life. It’s a simple but powerful message. These lyrics can come off harsh at times, like some other lyrics on the album, but it’s truly about getting the message across with an underlying positive message.

"Hope you guys enjoy this play through, we had a ton of fun making it! Thanks as always for your ongoing support and feedback on all our social pages. We love conversing and hearing from you all. Subscribe to our YouTube Page to catch all the videos we make and give a ‘like’ to our FB, IG and Twitter pages if you haven’t already!! We appreciate your support.

"Be safe out there, take care of each other and all the best to you all from the Imonolith Camp!”

Which MEGADETH Guitarist Is Better: KIKO LOUREIRO Or MARTY FRIEDMAN? KIKO Weighs In

MEGADETH's Kiko Loureiro has uploaded a new video in which he answers the fan-submitted question: "Are you better than [former MEGADETH guitarist] Marty Friedman?"

In the clip, which can be seen below, Kiko states: "So when you start worrying about being better than other musicians, or if your band is better than the other bands, things like this, I don't think it's a good idea — it's not a good place to go.

"First of all, we all know music's not a competition — there's no prize. Music is a way to express yourself, so, actually, the competition or the competitor, it's yourself.

"Basically, it's gonna be a long journey, learning an instrument and learning music, to find the best way you can express yourself, and you're gonna learn who you are. So it's a long journey, it's difficult, and the competitor is only you. So, basically, during your whole life, you'll be learning how to play, and when you start learning, of course, you have to copy other players. And the more players you start learning things from or copying or different styles of music, the more the better, because you will find things that connect with you — you're gonna inhale that, you will digest that, and somehow you're gonna put it out the way you feel like that's your way. Actually, that's a key thing — everything that you learn from other musicians, from other players, you have, right away, to try to make your own, or you have to put it out somehow. You don't need to copy. That's why sometimes I get some comments that I'm not playing exactly the same notes as Chris Poland or Marty Friedman. And you know what? I don't want [to]. I can't, first of all — I'm not able to do it — because I never really tried to copy other players note for note, and then it's very hard. It's impossible to imitate other players, and that's not my goal.

"It's interesting when people ask if I'm better than the other guy, or this guy is better than the other one. It doesn't matter — it doesn't matter. It's how you feel when you play. If you feel good about what you're playing — 'I love this. And that's me. And I'm having fun playing. And I'm finding new things here. And I'm discovering new sounds. And I feel that I'm getting better.' Because you're the only one that you have to really try to compete with. You have to look at yourself, like, one year ago and see if you're a better musician. I wonder if Kiko next year — 2021 Kiko — is better than me now. So that's my goal. It's not about playing faster, it's not about playing cleaner, it's not about knowing more scales. It's about, 'I'm feeling good expressing myself with the tools that I know, with the tools that I have now, and I'm feeling good doing that.' So that's the main thing. So if I'm better than Marty Friedman, I don't know.

"I have something to say here in this video, because it's about that, actually. Because for the last five years, I've always been compared to Marty Friedman, and Marty Friedman is a great musician — not only a great guitar player but an amazing musician. And I'm a big fan of his solo work and CACOPHONY and, of course, other MEGADETH years, and I had a chance to meet him two times and have great conversations about music and about life with him.

"I have some guest musicians, guest guitarists on my new album, and guess what? Marty Friedman is one of them.

"I'm so happy to have Marty Friedman. He did, of course, an amazing solo on one of my songs. So, thank you, Marty."

Loureiro has set "Open Source" as the title of his fifth solo album. The disc will be the follow-up to "Sounds Of Innocence", which was released in June 2012.

Kiko made his recording debut with MEGADETH on 2016's "Dystopia" album. The "Dystopia" title track was honored in the "Best Metal Performance" category at the 2017 Grammy Awards.

MEGADETH leader Dave Mustaine told Revolver magazine that finding Loureiro "was really a mind-blower. It was the first time since Marty Friedman joined the band that I was really intimidated as a player," he said. "He's such an amazing talent, and he's been coming in with all of these fresh ideas." Mustaine has also called Loureiro the "best guitarist we've ever had," adding that he was a good fit personality wise. "Chris [Broderick] and I had a good chemistry, but we weren't really as close as I would have wanted us to be," Mustaine explained. "Kiko, I feel like I've known him for years."

Slay At Home, a first of its kind virtual metal music and art festival organized by Frank Godla of Metal Injection, took place over the weekend. Two Minutes To Late Night, "the world's only heavy metal-themed talk show", have released the video below.

A message states: "Gwarsenio forced Shawna Potter from War On Women, Chris Maggio from High On Fire, and a his friend John who isn't from a famous band but has gotten SICK on every level of Tony Hawk 2, to cover 4 Van Halen songs with him for Metal Injection's "Slay At Home Festival."  These are more traditional covers than you'd normally see on Two Minutes To Late Night but there's a few weird surprises here and there."

TOKYO MOTOR FIST Featuring DANGER DANGER, TRIXTER Members Premier "Around Midnight" Music Video

Tokyo Motor Fist’s self-titled debut scratched an itch for music fans who have been starving for new albums from Trixter or Danger Danger (and who also happen to love Def Leppard) and now the band delivers another fix with their sophomore album, Lions, out July 10. Once again, the band delivers exactly what fans want and would expect with their catchy and uplifting hard rock.

Check out a video for the second single, "Around Midnight", below, and pre-order the album, including t-shirt bundles in the US store, here.

On the making of the new album, Steve Brown says, “From day one when I put together Tokyo Motor Fist, I knew that this was a genuine rock group, not a fake cash grab project, a so-called super-group or imaginary band that makes one record and never plays live... TMF is the REAL DEAL! Our debut release proved that, our live shows cemented that fact, and the worldwide response and success to the debut was so overwhelming that a follow-up record was a sure thing. Here we present you with Lions... next level stuff for the band, as you will hear. It’s a great feeling after 30 years of making records to be at the top of my game as a writer, singer, player, and producer. So proud of my band... Ted, Chuck and Greg all delivered incredible performances and took my songs to a higher ground. I brought in my rock 'n roll brother, the great Bruno Ravel, to mix Lions. He is without a doubt one of the most talented all around musicians/producers I know. His expertise and ears took this album over the top. It was mastered by Maor Appelbaum, who did a fantastic job. It sounds brilliant! Lastly, we are on the best label in the business, Frontiers Records! My friend, Serafino Perugino allowed TMF the extra time and the support needed to make the record of our dreams. I can’t wait for you all hear this... Lions is the positive & feel good record the world needs right now... It’s gonna Blow Your Mind!!!”

Ted Poley adds, “Couldn’t be prouder to be a part of such an amazing band! The new album is absolutely stunning! Steve Brown‘s songwriting has hit a new high. Lions contains some of my favorite songs that I have ever sung on in my career. The TMF rhythm section of Chuck and Greg are an unstoppable dream team. This record should come with a warning label because you will be singing along with it for days! The hooks just keep coming! And we hope that you will too!”

"Our new album Lions  is by far and away the BEST album I've ever had the pleasure to play on! Each and every song is outstanding and this new record reaches new sonic and songwriting heights yet achieved in my career!! A-a-a-a-and you can quote me on this!!!!" adds Chuck Burgi.

"I absolutely loved our first album, but this one is a game changer for this band! The songs, playing, and soul of this group are definitely captured on this record. It was an absolute pleasure to be there when the legendary Dennis DeYoung recorded his cameo on the album's namesake tune, Lions. He took an already great song to the next level. I can’t wait to perform these tunes with my TMF brothers in the hopefully near future! I hope you all enjoy this album as much as I did playing on it!," says bassist Greg Smith.

The album's title track features a guest keyboard solo by none other than rock legend Dennis DeYoung and a guest saxophone spot from Mark Rivera (Billy Joel, Ringo Starr) on "Sedona".

Written and produced by Steve Brown, Lions was mixed by Bruno Ravel (Danger Danger, The Defiants) and mixed by Maor Applebaum (Faith No More, Yes, Dokken).

You don’t need to be a die-hard '80s/’90s hard rock fan to know that the fruits of an artistic alliance between Danger Danger singer Ted Poley and guitarist/producer Steve Brown of Trixter was going to make melodic rock fans rejoice! Featuring Ted Poley (vocals), Steve Brown (guitar), Greg Smith (bass), and Chuck Burgi (drums), Tokyo Motor Fist was birthed out of Ted and Steve’s long standing friendship. They were playing the same club circuit with their respective bands, Danger Danger and Trixter, when both bands were starting their careers. Over the years, they had a great personal relationship and the idea of doing a record together has been in the cards for many years. With some help from Frontiers the concept became a reality. Rounded out by Greg Smith (Ted Nugent, Rainbow, Alice Cooper) and Chuck Burgi (Rainbow, Blue Oyster Cult, Bon Jovi) on bass and drums, respectively, TMF’s self-titled debut was met with the high praise and enthusiasm one would expect from fans of the genre. The fact that the music delivered was even better than what it looked like on paper has had fans clamoring for a follow-up. And now, with Lions on the way, those fans have much to look forward to!

TMF anticipates hitting the road in support of the album once the world is back up and running.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH Releases Music Video For 'A Little Bit Off'

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH has released the second official video from its new album, "F8", for the track "A Little Bit Off", which is now Top 5 at Active Rock radio. The clip was shot during lockdown in a deserted car-free Las Vegas where singer Ivan Moody is the only soul on a sidewalk usually crowded with people.

Having conceptualized the idea for the video, guitarist Zoltan Bathory explains: "Our new record, 'F8', came out right at the exact moment COVID-19 smashed into western society and (naturally) all attention was diverted to the pandemic. It placed us in a difficult situation, where on one hand this is probably the best album we have ever made. On the other, it felt insensitive to promote a record on full-tilt boogie while people were dying all across the world, businesses closed down, and the economy went face down in a ditch. Since it affects all public events, and tours are cancelled for who knows how long, artists also became victims of the fallout. So we decided to make this video a snapshot of the unprecedented times and underline it with some humor to at least lighten the overall gloomy vibes. However, here we are today ready to release it... but thinking once again ... is it insensitive to debut the video now that the world is on fire? I guess this will turn out to be the anthem for 2020... We are all 'a little bit off today.'"

"F8" was released in February. The follow-up to 2018's "And Justice For None" caps a turbulent period for FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH in which Moody finally got sober after a near-fatal struggle with addiction, while co-founding drummer Jeremy Spencer bowed out of the band due to physical issues.

Much of "F8"'s lyrical content deals with Moody's battle with addiction, its aftermath and his recovery. The singer celebrated two years of sobriety in March.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's new disc was once again helmed by Kevin Churko, the Canadian record producer/engineer and songwriter who currently lives in Las Vegas, where he works out of his private studio, The Hideout Recording Studio. The drums on the LP were laid down by Charlie "The Engine" Engen, who made his live debut with the group during its fall 2018 tour with BREAKING BENJAMIN.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's spring tour with PAPA ROACH, I PREVAIL and ICE NINE KILLS has been postponed and rescheduled for the fall. The trek was originally due to run from April 8 to May 20, but will now kick off on September 28 in Sunrise, Florida.

Ex-VIXEN Singer JANET GARDNER Releases Video For 'Wounded' From Upcoming GARDNER/JAMES Album 'Synergy'

Former VIXEN singer Janet Gardner has released the official music video for the song "Wounded" from GARDNER/JAMES, her collaborative project with her husband, guitarist/producer Justin James, who has previously worked with STAIND, COLLECTIVE SOUL and TYKETTO. The track is taken from GARDNER*JAMES's upcoming album, "Synergy", which will be released later in the year via Pavement Entertainment.

The performance footage for "Wounded" was shot by Gang Geunwoo and Lee IIgyu of Metalbong Production.

"Synergy" is the first Gardner/James album to be released under the GARDNER/JAMES banner. The couple previously collaborated on Janet's first two solo albums, 2018's "Janet Gardner" and 2019's "Your Place In The Sun".

Prior to "Wounded"'s arrival, GARDNER/JAMES released the songs "Lonely We Fight" and "Talk To Myself", which will also appear on "Synergy".

Janet announced her departure from VIXEN in January 2019, saying in a statement that it was time for her to step aside and let drummer Roxy Petrucci and bassist Share Ross "pursue their vision for the future of VIXEN."

Gardner, Petrucci and Ross are considered to be part of VIXEN's classic lineup, along with founding guitarist Jan Kuehnemund, who died of cancer in October 2013.

Gardner contributed lead vocals to VIXEN's most commercially successful studio albums — "Vixen" (1988), "Rev It Up" (1990) and "Tangerine" (1998) — as well as the group's latest release, 2018's live album "Live Fire".

In January 2018, Gardner underwent surgery to remove blood clots in her brain, a condition known as a subdural hematoma.

While Gardner was recovering from her surgery, VIXEN played a show in Durant, Oklahoma in March 2018 with a fill-in singer, Lorraine Lewis of FEMME FATALE. In January 2019, Lewis was announced as Gardner's official replacement.

LIVING COLOUR Releases 2020 Video For 'This Is The Life' Featuring Footage Of GEORGE FLOYD Protests

LIVING COLOUR has released a new video for its classic song "This Is The Life". The clip includes footage of the peaceful protests that have swelled across the U.S. and around the world over the death of Minnesota man George Floyd at the hands of police. The original version of "This Is The Life" appeared on LIVING COLOUR's 1990 album "Time's Up".

In a statement accompanying the new video's release, LIVING COLOUR said: "'Time's Up' was released 30 years ago and sadly we're still fighting the same fight. If you don't like the current agenda, it's your responsibility to go out an VOTE!"

On May 25, Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, was killed in an incident caught on camera. A police officer, Derek Chauvin, kneeled on his neck for nearly ten minutes while Floyd was handcuffed. Chauvin faces second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter charges, while his former colleagues J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas K. Lane and Tou Thao are charged with one count of aiding and abetting second-degree murder and aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter.

A few days after Floyd's death, LIVING COLOUR guitarist Vernon Reid took to his Twitter to write: " Of all the shocking mobile phone recorded extra judicial Police killings, the murder of George Floyd is the most depraved exercise in contemptuous disregard for human life I've ever seen. Next time you see it- if you can stomach it- pay attention to the hand in pocket posture."

LIVING COLOUR's latest studio album, "Shade", was released in September 2017 via Megaforce Records.

SEPULTURA's ANDREAS KISSER Dedicates Acoustic Performance To ANDRÉ MATOS (Video)

SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser dedicated his acoustic performance at the Rio Montreux Jazz Festival in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil on Saturday (June 8) to former ANGRA singer André Matos, who died earlier that day.

Before launching into an acoustic version of the PANTERA classic "Walk", Kisser called Matos a "heavy metal icon" and a "Brazilian heavy metal pioneer."

Matos, who also sang for the Brazilian metal bands VIPER and SHAMAN, passed away after suffering a heart attack. He was only 47 years old.

In addition to recording the vocals and keyboards on ANGRA's 1993 debut album, "Angels Cry", André was the composer and arranger of nine of the ten tracks on the LP, including "Carry On", which is still considered to be one of ANGRA's most popular songs. Matos also handled lead vocals on ANGRA's "Holy Land" (1996) and "Fireworks" (1998) albums.

Matos, along with bassist Luis Mariutti and drummer Ricardo Confessori, left ANGRA in 2000 and launched SHAMAN (later known as SHAAMAN due to legal issues). André then went on to pursue a solo career while continuing to stay involved with a number of outside projects.

André released three solo albums: 2007's "Time To Be Free", 2009's "Mentalize" and 2012's "The Turn Of The Lights".

IRON MAIDEN Animator VAL ANDRADE Pays Tribute To ANDRÉ MATOS With New Cartoon

Brazil-based animator, Val Andrade, has released the new cartoon clip below, paying tribute to former Angra frontman André Matos, who passed away on June 8 at the age of 47, after suffering a heart attack.

Matos, who made a name for himself fronting Angra, supported Avantasia with Shaman on June 2 in São Paulo and later performed with Avantasia that night. Frontman Tobias Sammet has posted the following message:

"I am devastated by the tragic news about the passing of my friend André Matos whom I shared the stage with only five days ago. I am in shock. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Rest in peace, André Matos."

Of all the bands Matos performed with, Angra is the one he is best known for, having recorded three albums and three EPs with the band between 1993 - 1998. The band issued the following message:

"With a lot of pain we received the news of the passing of Angra is in mourning. André was indispensable for the success and consecration of this band. The contribution of his talent and presence is invaluable.

There are no words right now that describe the size of the void left in the hearts of those who loved him closely and far Brazil loses an irreplaceable talent of the genre heavy metal and with it dies the hope of seeing it on our stages again. May the angels receive your soul and may the goddess of fire keep the flame of her artistic legacy alight always. R.I.P. Andre Matos."

AVANTASIA Mastermind TOBIAS SAMMET Pays Tribute To ANDRÉ MATOS - "An Outstanding Talent, Intense Character, A True Artist"

On June 8th, former Angra frontman André Matos passed away due to a heart attack at the age of 47. Avantasia mastermind Tobias Sammet has posted video on social media featuring himself and Matos performing the Avantasia song "Sign Of The Cross" with Matos' band Shaaman, along with the following tribute.

"That‘s how I will always remember André. He was a great man, an outstanding talent, a funny person, intense character, very sensitive, a true artist. Technically, an out of this world singer and when you were around him, you had to laugh a lot. He was a loveable, humble human being who cared a lot about his environment. He was sensitive and he worked hard to deliver outstanding quality. He will be sorely missed and remembered forever. As much as your loss hurts, remembering the moments we shared will always put a smile on my face! Safe travels, my friend!"

Brazil-based animator, Val Andrade, has released the new cartoon clip below, paying tribute to Matos.

WHITESNAKE - "Always And Forever" Solo Lesson With JOEL HOEKSTRA Available (Video)

Whitesnake's Joel Hoekstra stopped by Guitar World to give an exclusive lesson of the solo from band's single, "Always and Forever", off their latest album, Flesh & Blood. It is among the album's most aggressive solos and features a variety of Joel's favorite lead playing techniques, including two-finger tapping.

On June 19, Rhino Records will release The Rock Album by Whitesnake - a new collection that features revisited, remixed and remastered versions of the group’s best rock songs. A video for the 2020 remix of "Give Me All Your Love" can be seen below:

The album is the first release in the band’s “Red, White and Blues Trilogy,” a series of fresh, new collections organized by musical themes that will include: Love Songs (Red), The Rock Album (White) and The Blues Album (Blue).

In the album’s liner notes, Whitesnake founder and lead singer David Coverdale writes: “All the songs have been revisited, remixed and remastered. Some have been musically embellished where my co-producer Michael McIntyre, my new mixer Christopher Collier and I felt it appropriate or necessary to bring out the best in these songs.”

The Rock Album spans over three decades with songs originally released between 1984 and 2011 on six Whitesnake studio albums. One track – “She Give Me” – is taken from Coverdale’s 2000 solo album, Into The Light.

The group’s music from the 1980s is well represented by “Love Ain’t No Stranger” from Slide It In (1984) and “Judgement Day” from Slip Of The Tongue (1989), as well as “Still Of The Night,” “Give Me All Your Love” and the #1 smash “Here I Go Again” from Whitesnake’s 1987 self-titled album, which has been certified mega-platinum.

Restless Heart (1997) gets its due on the collection with four songs, including the blistering “Can’t Stop Now”. The Rock Album also features music from 2008’s Good To Be Bad (“Best Years” and “Can’t You Hear The Wind Blow”), in addition to the title track from 2011’s Forevermore. Other highlights from The Rock Album include a remixed version of “All Or Nothing” that features additional guitars pulled from the original multi-track tapes, plus an alternate arrangement of “Tell Me How” from Forevermore.

The Rock Album will be available June 19 digitally, on CD, and as a 2-LP set pressed on 180-gram, white vinyl. Pre-order yours now at this location. The cover art and tracklisting are as follows:

SABATON Release Live Video Of "Night Witches" Shot In Leipzig

Swedish bashers Sabaton have posted a live video for "Night Witches", shot on stage in Leipzig, Germany on January 30th during The Great Tour. Check it out below.

Sabaton continue their global assault in support of their latest album, The Great War, with a new live version of the album track "The Attack Of The Dead Men" featuring Radio Tapok. The song was recorded during the band’s recent concert in Moscow and is now available on all streaming and digital music platforms.

Radio Tapok is a Russian artist who gained popularity by covering a plethora of famous rock and metal songs in Russian. He has a huge following in Russian speaking countries with millions of fans and subscribers across a range of social networks. He has previously released a cover of the song "The Attack Of The Dead Men" with the lyrics translated to Russian. In collaboration with Sabaton, his own version was released a few days before the official Sabaton version was available.

During the recent concerts of Sabaton in Moscow and Saint Petersburg, Radio Tapok made an unannounced surprise appearance on stage and performed the song with the band. The unique live performance was recorded in Moscow and has been mixed by Jonas Kjellgren who is also the person behind the mixing and recording of The Great War.

Sabaton bassist Pär Sundström comments:

“It’s a special honour for us to collaborate with Radio Tapok. He is a very talented artist and his cover of our song 'The Attack Of The Dead Men' was so well received, that we did not think twice when we decided to invite him on stage to perform the song with us in Moscow and Saint Petersburg. The performance was so good that we had no other option but to release this collaboration!”

The song tells the story of Osowiec Fortress and a battle during World War 1 where the forces of imperial Germany used chlorine gas against the Russian defenders who had no protection against gas and had to wrap wet clothes around their faces in desperation. They were not expected to survive and that is why their counter attack was so surprising and successful. Wrapped in bloody cloth and coughing blood, they charged and the legend of the attack of the dead men was born.

There will also be an exclusive 12” vinyl which will be released on July 10th via Nuclear Blast and can be pre-ordered now in the following formats:

'The Attack Of The Dead Men' (Live in Moscow feat. Radio Tapok)
   • Gas Coloured Vinyl Edition: 'The Attack Of The Dead Men'

STEVE VAI Releases New Song 'Candle Power'

Legendary guitarist Steve Vai has released a new song called "Candle Power". Earlier today, Vai posted a video of him performing the track via his social media, and he included the following message: "Hey Folks, Vai here. I wanted to challenge myself for my 60th birthday and decided to record a simple trio track. I gave myself some parameters to work within. I told myself I would use a Strat style guitar, (tougher for me to play then a Jem) use a very clean tone, (not conventional for me) no whammy bar, (that’s like losing a body part for me) and no pick, just fingers (way out of my comfort zone). I also had this idea for a particular type of riff that can only really be played on a guitar with no whammy bar. It's a technique that I call 'joint shifting.' This is where you bend a note while fretting another, but I wanted to do this technique with a combination of double and triple stop single note bends while fretting other notes and releasing bends. After considerable experimenting, I discovered it created a unique sounding passage. You can hear this technique on a few sections of the song. I certainly hope other ambitious guitar player see the potential in this technique and take it to the moon!

"We shot this quick little video of me performing the track at my Harmony Hut studio.

"During this period, the world is slowly starting to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic. Many people are still facing challenges and are eager to find entertainment on the internet. I have seen the best come out in many people during this challenging time. When people join together with a common positive intention, the power surge they create within the collective is the healing element that is most needed. Like many little candles coming together to burn as bright as a star.

"I needed a title for the song, and with the above in mind, and the fact that it's my 60th, I choose the title 'Candle Power'. We are even issuing a limited edition commemorative 'Candle Power' candle in the new vai.com merch store that also comes with a high-quality download of the song."

Last September, Vai released a Blu-ray edition of his 2015 live DVD, "Stillness In Motion", via his personal record label Light Without Heat, distributed by The Orchard. The release features Vai's complete performance at Club Nokia in Los Angeles on October 12, 2012.
