Atlanta progressive metallers MASTODON will enter the studio in a couple of weeks with producer Nick Raskulinecz (FOO FIGHTERS, RUSH, ALICE IN CHAINS) to begin recording their new album for a 2014 release.

Speaking to RollingStone.com, MASTODON drummer Brann Dailor said: "[Nick is] a rock guy. He's a rocker. He likes to rock. He's done a bunch of our friends' records that sound great. I'm a fan of all the DEFTONES records he's done, all the ALICE IN CHAINS stuff, and he worked with QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE on [their 2002 album] 'Songs For The Deaf'."

According to Dailor, MASTODON has written "18 or 19 songs" for the follow-up to 2011's "The Hunter".

"It's gonna be massive and insane, lots of epic greatness," he said. "There will be lots of huge riffs and new directions. It's real weird, real math-y, real straightforward. It's up, down and all around. It's a culmination of everything for the band. The snowball keeps rolling and collecting snow."

On December 10, Warner Bros. Records will digitally release "Mastodon Live At Brixton", a recording of MASTODON's February 11, 2012 performance at London, England's O2 Academy in Brixton. This sold-out performance was MASTODON's first show at the legendary venue. An audio-only version and a live video version directed by Ryan Mackfall (Crashburn Media) (both featuring the full 97-minute performance) will be available from all digital retailers, including iTunes and Amazon.

In addition to performing "Curl of the Burl", "Black Tongue" and "Dry Bone Valley" from "The Hunter", the band dug into their catalog, unearthing such scorching tracks as "Colony of Birchmen", "Capillarian Crest" and "Iron Tusk".

Acclaimed Hungarian black metal band SEAR BLISS will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a monumental show in Budapest on December 6. The band will play a special set, including songs they never performed live before and besides the current lineup, this once-in-a-lifetime spectacular show will include the appearance of some previous band members and special guests, too. In addition, this unique gig will feature some special visual effects.

All information is revealed on the band's newly revamped homepage and the official Facebook site of the band which is updated on a daily basis. The Facebook page also features a retrospective series of writings that will continue until the day of the anniversary show, embracing the entire history of the band. This series started with an article about the era of the legendary "The Pagan Winter" demo tape, and contains archive photos, interviews and other curiosities. These articles are highly recommended not only for those who would like to evoke their old memories, but for those who just got to know SEAR BLISS, too.

In other news, SEAR BLISS has already started writing songs for its eight album, to be recorded next year. The new material is described in a press release as "atmospheric and epic," probably a bit different compared to the band's last release, "Eternal Recurrence", and as always, brass instruments will play an important role, being the trademark of SEAR BLISS.

New York-based architects of progressive musical madness THEATER OF THE ABSURD have completed work on their new album, "The Myth Of Sisyphus", for a December 13 release via Graviton Music Services. The CD was mixed by legendary producer Jim Morris (ICED EARTH, DEATH, SAVATAGE) at Morrisound Recording and mastered by Maor Appelbaum (CYNIC, FATES WARNING, ASIA). It features the art of world-renowned Serbian painter Zoran Velimanovic, the vocal talents of Chandler Mogel (OUTLOUD) and Kjersti Kveli, and the classically trained pianism of Norway's Tor Morten Kjosnes.

Former SKID ROW singer Sebastian Bach is putting the finishing touches on his new solo album for an early 2014 release via Frontiers Records. The follow-up to 2011's "Kicking & Screaming" is once again being produced by Bob Marlette, who has previously worked with ROB ZOMBIE, BLACK SABBATH and SHINEDOWN, among others.

Says Bach: "We are in the final stages of the new album.

The US Festival (US is an acronym for "Unite Us In Song") held on Memorial Day of 1983 was a massive three-day celebration of music and culture sponsored by Steve Wozniak, formerly of Apple computer. Tony Iommi, the lead guitarist of iconic rock band BLACK SABBATH was among the outstanding individuals who received honorary degrees from Coventry University yesterday (Tuesday, November 19).

Iommi, who co-founded BLACK SABBATH in Birmingham in 1968, and Her Royal Highness Princess Rym Ali will be honoured by the University during its graduation ceremonies in Coventry Cathedral. Celebrated Coventrian and artist George Shaw — whose haunting depictions of the city's Tile Hill landscape have won him acclaim and a Turner Prize nomination — was also recognized by the institution.

The honorary graduands received their commendations in the same week that around 7,000 students are awarded their degrees from the University. Iommi was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Arts in recognition of his contribution to the world of popular music, in particular his role as one of the founding fathers of heavy metal music and his status as one of the industry's most influential figures.

Iommi, who headed straight from the graduation ceremony to join BLACK SABBATH in Helsinki for the start of their latest European tour, said: "It's a great honor to receive the doctorate, which comes towards the end of a challenging but amazingly successful year for me." Professor Madeleine Atkins, vice-chancellor of Coventry University, said: "It's a pleasure to be welcoming these exemplary individuals to our graduation ceremonies to receive their awards alongside our graduating students. Each of them has excelled in their field in such a way as to be worthy of recognition, and I hope our own students will be inspired by the drive and commitment they have shown throughout their careers."

Roadrunner Records and Warner Music Latina have announced the eagerly anticipated debut album from Latin metal group DE LA TIERRA. "De La Tierra" — the explosive self-titled collection from the Latin group consisting of Andreas Kisser, guitarist of SEPULTURA, Andrés Giménez, former leader of A.N.I.M.A.L., Sr. Flavio, bassist of LOS FABULOSOS CADILLACS, and Alex González, drummer of MANÁ — features the lead single "Maldita Historia", which is available now via the iTunes store along with an official music video that made its worldwide premiere earlier today on several media outlets across the globe. The following evening the two had dinner with Flavio, a friend of Giménez's who both revered, as the three flirted with the idea of forming a power trio. Giménez however wanted more firepower and suggested Kisser as a possible second guitarist. González reached out to Kisser via email telling him about the project which was conceived as a gathering of like minds to create metal music which they all enjoyed and appreciated. Kisser responded immediately: "I am the band's guitar player!"

Oklahoma hard rockers HINDER have officially parted ways with their lead singer, Austin Winkler.

Earlier this year, Winkler left the band's national tour due to personal reasons. HINDER continued to tour with guest lead vocalists helping out, including Jared Weeks from SAVING ABEL.

"I'm really proud of what we accomplished over the years," says HINDER drummer (and songwriter/producer) Cody Hanson. "We hold no animosity towards Austin, and wish him the best. Although it was a difficult decision, it was the best thing for everyone involved and time for us to move on"

He continued: "This summer/fall tour was a tough one.

"We want to thank the fans for all their overwhelming support. We couldn't have made it through everything without you.

"We are very excited about the future of HINDER and can't wait to share the next chapter with all of you!"

According to The Pulse Of Radio, HINDER apparently wanted "American Idol" season seven winner David Cook to fill in temporarily for Winkler this past summer. HINDER manager Kevin "Chief" Zaruk told The Hollywood Reporter, "David Cook was at the top of our list." He added that season 10's James Durbin was also in the running, saying, "We would've loved to have either, but the timing didn't work out." Cook turned down the offer in order to continue to work on his own music, but was said to have been "very interested" in the gig.

Zaruk also confirmed that Winkler had entered rehab for the second time in his career, saying, "We just want him to get healthy and get happy."

HINDER's fourth studio album, "Welcome To The Freakshow", came out last year.

"The Steve Austin Show - Unleashed!" is the explicit version of the podcast hosted by former WWE wrestling champion "Stone Cold" Steve Austin. On SLAYER's early years:

King: "Me and [late SLAYER guitarist] Jeff [Hanneman] would go hang out and see bands. We saw METALLICA at the Woodstock in Orange County, of all places, and we were blown away. We were already into MOTÖRHEAD and VENOM, and there was a lot of talk of the METALLICA guys. So we were, like, 'Let's go check this out.' And they were doing what we were doing the way we wanted to do it… We just weren't there yet. They were probably six to eight to twelve months ahead of us, just with shit-togetheredness. Even back then, I look at [then-METALLICA guitarist] Dave Mustaine, and to this day, I love him as a guitar player; he's one of my favorites. And then I saw him playing and it just blew me and Jeff away that he was just ripping solos and he wasn't even looking at what he was playing. And we were just like, 'Man, that's awesome.' And were just into it. Me and Jeff were six months apart in age. We were just like the same person."

On SLAYER's recent split with original drummer Dave Lombardo:

King: "When Dave was in [the band] this last time, I figured I'd be on the stage with him until one of us fell off the stage, dead. Things change. He got some bad advice and listened to some bad advice, gave us an ultimatum ten days before we went to Australia [to do the Soundwave festival tour]. And I said, 'I can't have this over my head.' And I feel bad for Dave to this day; I really feel bad for him because he shot himself in the foot. Maybe he thought he had the upper hand, but you ain't gonna get me…. Before I got home, I knew exactly what I was going to do for Australia." On how SLAYER has managed to maintain its camaraderie within the band for more than 30 years:

King: "The only thing that we've done to separate each other purposely is when Tom [Araya, SLAYER bassist/vocalist] started coming out with his family, I don't know, maybe ten or so years ago. And I said, 'It's probably a good idea to get your own bus.' Because you never know what's gonna be going on on our bus. For the band, kids keeping you awake all night — if that's what would happen; kids stumbling in on something they really don't need to see, that's something. But that's the only thing. We fly together, we're still on the same bus. We take off on the same bus in a few days. [Editor's note: The interview was conducted a few days prior to the start of SLAYER's current North American tour.]

"What took me the longest time to figure out for myself personally was what not to say to people. You have your opinion, someone is pissing you off that day? You don't need to say it. Shut up, get on with your day, tomorrow's a new day and it's all gonna be fine. And, you know, there are so many bands that break up, and the individual doesn't usually have the talent of the whole.

"We're good at what we do, we've got a very strong brand, a very strong following and it would be stupid [for us to call it quits].

"The only reason I would leave SLAYER today is if Tom said he was done, 'cause then it's just me. Or if I was done and it was just Tom, I don't think Tom would wanna do it. It's now just the two of us."

The fourth PERSUADER album, "The Fiction Maze", will be released in Europe on January 17 and in North America on January 21 through Inner Wound Recordings. Avalon/Marquee will release the album in Japan on December 25.

"The Fiction Maze" is another step forward for PERSUADER as they constantly continue to develop their sound, songwriting skills and performance. JAKE E. LEE'S RED DRAGON CARTEL's setlist includes new material like the singles "Feeder" and "Deceived", as well as major hits from Jake E. Lee's glorious past: "Shot In The Dark", "Bark At The Moon", "The Ultimate Sin" (all originally recorded by OZZY OSBOURNE), as well as "Dreams In The Dark" and "High Wire" (BADLANDS).

"Tales From The Stage Volume 1" author Michael Toney, who recently got a taste of some of the songs for the project, said: "The two new tracks that I have heard [from JAKE E. LEE'S RED DRAGON CARTEL] are very impressive, and are incredibly fresh sounding — but not really in the same family as [Jake's] work with BADLANDS or Ozzy. It's still hard rock, but perhaps a bit more melodic."

A short teaser for "We're All Gonna Die", the sophomore album from GENERATION KILL, the band featuring EXODUS frontman Rob Dukes, can be seen below. Said Dukes: "We called this album 'We're All Gonna Die' because, for the most part, the lyrics are about the darker side of the existence of humans on this planet.

"The album as a whole is so diverse, drawing from our influences that we grew up on.

HATRIOT, the San Francisco Bay Area thrash metal band led by former EXODUS and LEGACY (pre-TESTAMENT) frontman Steve "Zetro" Souza, will release its sophomore album, "Dawn Of The New Centurion", on January 24, 2014 through Massacre Records. The band once again used producer Juan Urteaga and graphic artist Mark DeVito for the new effort, which will be made available on CD and digital download, as well as a limited-edition CD digipak with bonus tracks, and a limited-edition vinyl LP.

"Over the past year, HATRIOT has grown tighter as a band, and the songs on the new record will reflect that," said Souza. "The songs are longer and more melodic, while keeping the classic thrash metal feel that we are known for.

"'Heroes Of Origin' was our 'Kill 'Em All', and 'Dawn Of The New Centurion' is our 'Ride The Lightning'."

The first single from "Dawn Of The New Centurion" will be "The Fear Within".

HATRIOT will be touring Europe in December, and plans on including some new material into its live set.

HATRIOT's drummer is none other than Steve's son, Nicholas Souza. Nicholas auditioned for the band after the departure of Alex Bent and "proved himself to be the best choice," according to Steve.

HATRIOT's lineup also includes Zetro's son Cody, who got his first bass as a present from his father after Zetro bought it off current EXODUS bassist Jack Gibson. "I told him," Zetro said in a recent interview with Metalholic.com, "'You have to try out [for the bassist position in HATRIOT if you want to be in the band]. There's no nepotism here, boy. If you can hang, you're on.' So he actually tried out, and he got the gig."

Regarding HATRIOT's musical direction, Zetro said, "It's in the vein of typical Bay Area thrash, but these guys are a lot younger, so there's gonna be some blast-beats in there. There's gonna be some kind of death [metal] approach to it, a little bit. 'Cause these guys are new. They're raw, and they're fast, young, heavy, hard and aggressive, and I'm trying to convey that along as well."

He added, "These new kids seem to understand what we did in the '80s, but still bring a little bit of a new essence to it. We put that together with what I write vocally and it's turned out to be really, really killer. It's good stuff."

U.K. black metallers HECATE ENTHRONED recently inked a deal with Crank Music Group for the release of their upcoming album. The long-awaited follow-up to 2004's "Redimus", entitled "Virulent Rapture", is due on November 25. A short U.K. tour to promote the upcoming opus will kick off at the beginning of December.

HECATE ENTHRONED recently announced the addition of vocalist Elliot Beaver (AETERNUM) and drummer Gareth Hardy to the group's ranks. The band states: "This heralds a new start as well as a new lineup for the band."

HECATE ENTHRONED bassist, Dylan Hughes previously stated about the band's upcoming CD: "The new material is very much guitar-driven, lots of heavy and fast riffs (tuned to C#), giving a relentless feeling to the tracks which we have tempered with a big orchestral sound. The choirs and orchestras have always been a big part of the sound with HECATE and that is very true with this material. In some parts, it recaptures some of the moods from the very early releases. Because of the fact we are recording ourselves, we aren't pressured too much by time constraints and can spend more time on getting the right sound and mix as we feel in the past we have had to sacrifice certain things to reach a recording deadline."

TESTAMENT bassist Greg Christian has been forced to leave the band's current North American tour with LAMB OF GOD and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE for "personal reasons." Filling in for him beginning with tonight's (Wednesday, November 19) concert at Eagles Ballroom in Milwaukee, Wisconsin is EXODUS bassist Jack Gibson (pictured).

"It's an honor to be filling in for Greg," Jack tells BLABBERMOUTH.NET. "I've always thought he was one of the best metal bass players alive.

"TESTAMENT is already family. Gene [Hoglan, TESTAMENT drummer] is a god.

"Dark Roots Of Thrash", a DVD/2CD release documenting TESTAMENT's sold-out headlining performance at the Paramount in Huntington, New York this past February, was made available on October 18 (Europe) and October 29 (North America) via Nuclear Blast Records. "Dark Roots Of Thrash" was produced by Get Hammered Productions, directed by Tommy Jones (DEATH ANGEL, KATAKLYSM, SOILWORK) and mixed by Juan Urteaga (VILE, EXODUS, SADUS, MACHINE HEAD). It captures a total of 19 live tracks with countless cams onstage and high above the audience, plus a special moshpit cam that makes you feel like you're a part of the show.

EXODUS guitarist Gary Holt is continuing to fill in for fallen SLAYER guitarist Jeff Hanneman on the latter band's current tour.

KINGS OF CHAOS — the new touring project featuring former GUNS N' ROSES members Slash, Matt Sorum and Duff McKagan, along with Glenn Hughes (BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION, DEEP PURPLE), Corey Taylor (SLIPKNOT, STONE SOUR) and Steve Stevens (BILLY IDOL) — performed a special concert last night (Monday, November 18) at Avalon Hollywood in Los Angeles. They played a two-hour set spanning the greatest hits from all of its superstar members. Additional special guest performers for the night included Juliette Lewis and Billy Ray Cyrus.

The one-night-only benefit concert event, billed as "Tokyo Celebrates The Dolphin", was the group's only North American performance in 2013. Proceeds from "Tokyo Celebrates The Dolphin" will go directly to Ric O'Barry's Dolphin Project, an international organization dedicated to saving dolphins from slaughter and exploitation. Los Angeles is the first and only, North American stop.

"This is a rehearsal for the BIG one. We plan on taking 'Tokyo Celebrates the Dolphin' to Japan," said Ric O'Barry, whose life and work was featured in the Academy Award-winning film "The Cove". "We'll add a few Japanese friends to our lineup and rock the socks off Tokyo.

"There isn't a better way to bring Westerners and Japanese people together than rock and roll and the world should also know about the wonderful relationship between Japanese people and dolphins in the Tokyo Islands

"Dolphins are respected and protected in this part of Japan. It's the opposite of Taiji, but very few people know about it. 'Tokyo Celebrates the Dolphin' will hopefully change this by bringing positive, international media attention to what is right about Japan."

"I'm thrilled to bring a bunch of superstars together for a fun night with fans," added Matt Sorum, who has also played with VELVET REVOLVER. "The main thing is to keep creating awareness for the Dolphin Project and everyone involved."

KINGS OF CHAOS made its Australian live debut on April 20 at the Stone Music Festival at Sydney's ANZ Stadium.

KINGS OF CHAOS toured South and Central America last year under the name ROCK 'N' ROLL ALLSTARS.

The band will embark on a new South American tour at the end of November.

In stores August 27 is "All Re-Mixed Up", a track-for-track remix album of the band's sophomore release "Conditions Of My Parole". The twelve-song Remixers include Sir Mix-A-Lot, PALMS, Five Knives and Alain Johannes. Also coming from PUSCIFER this fall is a limited-edition Black Friday (November 29) release titled "Puscifer's 8-Ball Bail Bonds - The Berger Barns Live In Phoenix". The nine-song live album will be available on red vinyl at independent record stores nationwide.

"Bullets And Graves", the new Brian Sowell-directed video from CORRECTIONS HOUSE — Mike IX Williams (EYEHATEGOD), Scott Kelly (NEUROSIS), Bruce Lamont (YAKUZA), Sanford Parker (MINSK) and their minister of propaganda, Seward Fairbury — can be seen below. The song comes off the band's "Last City Zero" debut, released late last month via Neurot Recordings, and is an unapologetically violent, roadside nightmare marred by shady characters, nihilistic beatdowns and paths unknown. Shot completely in black and white, the production is as intriguing as it is unsettling. Produced by Parker at Electrical Audio, Soma Studios, 60 Psycho Hum and Nodferatu's Lair, "Last City Zero" offers up eight psychologically alarming hymns that span well beyond the traditional confines of sound. On "Last City Zero", the legion traverse tectonic plate-shifting doom and the downcast gloom of Kelly's usual ouevre into mutated industrial hissing and clanging EBM beats from Parker, squalls and drones of oblique saxophone from Lamont and Williams' familiar phlegm-drenched, razor-grated ire and all points in-between. Together they embrace the unkind, the diseased, the forgotten, the morose, their lush anti-soundscrapes and shadowy verses — at once beautifully hideous, graceful and terrifying — a product of societal ruin and psychological decay. Cold, mechanical, prosaic and pungent, "Last City Zero" is boundless in its genre voyage. CORRECTIONS HOUSE recently announced its European takeover, set take place this December. The rituals will commence on December 3 in Hamburg, Germany and level more than a dozen European metropolises before coming to a close December 21 in Wroclaw, Poland. Additionally, the band will preach its end-time message atop the main stage of the 013 venue in Tilburg on April 10, 2014 at Roadburn. On Friday, April 11 at Het Patronaat, Kelly, Williams, Parker and Lamont will each perform solo material, aided and abetted by a selection of others as they see fit. As a precursor to the overseas assaults, CORRECTIONS HOUSE will sully the stage of the Cactus Club in Milwaukee on November 29 and the Empty Bottle in Chicago on November 30, with additional stateside presentations to be announced in the coming weeks.

"Glimlight Tourist", the new video from the U.K.-based avant-garde metal outfit CODE, can be seen below. The song comes off the band's third album, "Augur Nox", which is being released on November 19 in Europe and November 26 in North America via Agonia Records.

"Augur Nox" is the first album featuring CODE's new lineup of Aort, Wacian, Syhr, LORDt and Andras. The brand-new material demonstrates the band's fresh personnel in a vivid light, confirming CODE's position as a radiant gem in the extreme metal world. It displays a multifaceted approach: from stunning wide-ranging vocals, otherworldly clean passages, and barbed metallic riffery, all filtered through a refined prism of avant-garde black metal. The album is CODE's most progressive effort to date, yet always captures the band's distinct eerie and arcane vibe.

Featuring ten tracks and 2 interludes over a 55-minute playing time, "Augur Nox" is a bold step forward where acute songwriting and expansive experimentation go hand in hand.
