Watch KILLSWITCH ENGAGE Perform 'Unleashed' In Las VegasProfessionally filmed video footage of KILLSWITCH ENGAGE performing the song "Unleashed" on August 13 at the Space in Las Vegas, Nevada can be seen below.
"Unleashed" is taken from KILLSWITCH ENGAGE's latest album, "Atonement", which was released on August 16 via Metal Blade Records in the U.S. and Sony Music Entertainment in the rest of the world.
"Atonement" is the culmination of a trying and turbulent two-year period. KILLSWITCH ENGAGE started kicking around ideas for the album as early as 2017. The band recorded the bulk of the material separately on both coasts. However, in the middle of the process, a polyp developed scar tissue in singer Jesse Leach's throat, forcing him to undergo surgery. The intense three-month recovery ended with speech therapy, vocal therapy, and scream therapy. The band ultimately emerged with an album that is further evidence of their undeniable legacy as one of the most enduring metal bands of the last two decades and beyond.
The elaborate illustration on the "Atonement" album cover was created by none other than talented U.K.-based artist Richey Beckett (METALLICA, MASTODON) with the band's own Mike D'Antonio handling art direction and layout duties.
"Atonement" features guest appearances by the band's former lead singer Howard Jones and TESTAMENT frontman Chuck Billy. It marks the band's third full-length release since the return of Leach, who rejoined the group in 2012.
Leach recently said that he "wouldn't change a thing" about the follow-up to 2016's "Incarnate". "At first, I was a bit crestfallen that a few songs I truly loved didn't make the cut," he wrote on Instagram. "Now after time has passed (and I've not listened to it for a while), I listened with fresh ears. I gotta say I am quite satisfied! The messages, the tones, the track listing order, the artwork, the overall feel of this album, it just feels fresh!
"I feel there is something for everyone on this one. It captures the wide range of styles and topics that are part of our history as a band as well as pushing things just a touch. It is a pretty amazing feeling as a very picky and perpetually unsatisfied (and fairly insecure) artist to feel accomplished."
Leach appeared on KILLSWITCH's self-titled debut and sophomore album, "Alive Or Just Breathing", before exiting the band. Jones took over on vocals for "The End Of Heartache", "As Daylight Dies" and the 2009 self-titled set before being dismissed from the group seven years ago.

IMPERIUM DEKADENZ Debut New Song “Transcendence”Atmospheric black metal duo, Imperium Dekadenz, are set to unleash their brand new magnum opus this Friday, August 30th with Napalm Records. When We Are Forgotten, dives deep into a complex cosmos made of anger, loneliness, melancholy and pure destruction. The band's upcoming record not only convinces with a dynamic, energetic and organic production and sounds by no means polished, but is the same rough and dark as their home, the Black Forest, itself.
Only a few days ahead of the official release, Imperium Dekadenz are sharing with us another fierce track taken from When We Are Forgotten with “Transcendence”.
Says the band: "This song came to us like magic. Everything was there from the very beginning. A gift from a world beyond. “Transcendence” - a piece of music that shows perfectly the progression of Imperium Dekadenz. Progressing into darkness far off the ways and paths, far off the safe shelter, you will find the enchantment of obscure wonders and... ‘Transcendence!’”
The album was recorded at Iguana Studios and the band's ID-Studios. The songs were mixed and mastered by Christoph Brandes. The album will be available in digital, digipak, and LP formats, along with additional bundle options and a limited-edition boxset. Pre-order here.
The album artwork was designed in cooperation with Alejandro Tedin at Heresie Graphics.

SUNN O))) To Release 'Pyroclasts' Album In OctoberSUNN O))) will release "Pyroclasts" on October 25 via Southern Lord Recordings.
"Pyroclasts" is the result of a daily practice which was regularly performed each morning or evening during the two-week "Life Metal" sessions at Electrical Audio during July 2018, when all of the days musical participants would gather and work through a 12-minute improvised modal drone at the start and or end of the day's work. The piece performed was timed with a stopwatch and tracked to two-inch tape, it was an exercise and a chance to dig into a deep opening or closing of the day's session in a deep musical way with all of the participants. To connect/reconnect, liberate the creative mind a bit and greet each other and the space through the practice of sound immersion. The players across the four pieces of "Pyroclasts" are Tim Midyett, T.O.S., Hildur Guðnadóttir, and, as always, Stephen O'Malley and Greg Anderson.
The music on "Pyroclasts" is inextricably woven to "Life Metal". It exists on the very same tape reels, was explicitly recorded by Steve Albini. The brightness and vividity of that glorious session glares through these four tracks, the precision and radiance, prismatic lustrousness of the saturation, the elemental sculptural shapes, the abstract renderings. It is a sister, or perhaps a shadow album. Or perhaps the now apparent miasma or aether. But it also exists in a form of a pause, a time space which exist in between and around the compositional structures of SUNN O)))'s titanic works.
For the listener or recipient/participant there are deep rewards within the patience of pulling down the walls and letting the music feel, and feel the music. To be immersed will reveal great detail and color, clarify image, encourage a depth of focus and stillness which may lead to a quite profound experience. Sitting inside the space of time. A deep form of elementalism, even atomism, and connection with presence moment, time and reality. SUNN O))) would invite their audience to consider these points of perception when experiencing and listening to "Pyroclasts". SUNN O))) would also invite and encourage their audience to use "Pyroclasts" as a lens to review and re-experience the complexity of the "Life Metal" album, and even to interrupt its sequence with "Pyroclasts". This elaboration can bring the astute listener both abyssal, hallowed rewards.
"Pyroclasts" was recorded and mixed by Steve Albini at Electrical Audio on two-inch tape July 2018, and mastered by Matt Colton through all analogue AAA process at Metropolis July 2019. Four of Samantha Keely Smith's incredible consciousness memory landscapes grace the album sleeve; album cover art is below.
Stephen and Greg would like to dedicate this album to the memories of Ron Guardipee, Kerstin Daley and Scott Walker.
"Pyroclasts" track listing:
Side A:
01. Frost (C)
02. Kingdoms (G)
Side B:
01. Ampliphædies (E)
03. Ascension (A) 2

JOURNEY Keyboardist JONATHAN CAIN Releases 'Tell Your Mountain' Lyric VideoThe official lyric video for the song "Tell Your Mountain" from Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductee and JOURNEY member Jonathan Cain can be seen below. The track is taken from his fourth solo album in as many years, "More Like Jesus", which was released on May 3 via Identity Records with The Fuel Music distribution.
Back in April, Cain released "More Like Jesus"'s title track as the first lyric video and single to digital retailers and streaming outlets internationally. Following its release, "More Like Jesus" was immediately dubbed a "Hot Track" by iTunes and was added to multiple Spotify playlists, including New Music Friday Christian.
Written in response to Cain asking himself what he should pray for and what would be his ultimate New Year's resolution in 2018, "More Like Jesus" became his personal anthem that helped carry him through a huge, 58-city arena/stadium tour with JOURNEY that played to over one million people last year. An integral part to one of the most popular American rock bands of all time, Cain is intent on "walking his life out more in the mind of Christ."
"These days that's what I'm writing, and I'm having a blast with it," Cain told Billboard. "I'm recording in my new studio and I get to play with the A-list players in Nashville… I'm just writing all the time, y'know — for JOURNEY, too, but this thing with worship music is really fun. It's another gig that I don't get burned out on, and I have a lot of energy I can offer when I come back to JOURNEY."
Writing all the songs and recording and producing "More Like Jesus" in his state-of-the-art Addiction Sound Studios in Nashville with engineer David Kalmusky, known for his work on multiple platinum albums, Cain's new album features 65 minutes of music. Songs like "Now Unto Him" and "Tell Your Mountain" have already become worship favorites at New Destiny Christian Center in Orlando, Florida, where he leads worship and his wife, Paula White, is the senior pastor.
The featured track "Unleashed" was originally written last year for White's Unleashed Conference. The album further includes "Remove Every Veil", which was originally a bonus track from the acclaimed album "What God Wants To Hear", and "Better Man" and "Take These Ashes" from Cain's "The Songs You Leave Behind", released last year.
"More Like Jesus" track listing:
01. Unleashed
02. More Like Jesus

DEMONS & WIZARDS Feat. JON SCHAFFER And HANSI KÜRSCH: Pro-Shot Video Of 'The Gunslinger' Performance From WACKEN OPEN AIRProfessionally filmed video footage of DEMONS & WIZARDS, the side project of ICED EARTH mainman Jon Schaffer and BLIND GUARDIAN singer Hansi Kürsch, performing the song "The Gunslinger" earlier this month at the Wacken Open Air festival in Wacken, Germany can be seen below.
"What an insane roller-coaster ride. This clip is a great legacy of our amazing first Wacken appearance," states Kürsch. "It brings back some great moments of a fantastic show and showcases perfectly well how incredible this show was in general, a mind-blowing experience for us. Band and audience were literally on fire. Certainly a magic moment. Enjoy."
During a press conference at this year's Hellfest in Clisson, France, Schaffer and Kürsch spoke about the progress of the recording sessions for DEMONS & WIZARDS' third album. Asked by one media outlet if fans can expect to hear an evolution in the sound and musical direction of DEMONS & WIZARDS' next LP, Hansi said: "There will be a huge evolution in sound. That's naturally by the 20 years in between the first album and this one. And even the 'Touched By The Crimson King' album has been recorded in 2005, so there were so many developments, I would be surprised if there's no evolution. And having five engineers involved is also making a difference, even though we go back to Jim Morris, who's going to do the final mixing, and we have done some work with him already.
"The [songwriting] process — has it changed? I don't think so," he continued. "We exchanged ideas. We were burning. That's the good thing about songwriting — you always try your best; you don't wanna do second best. It doesn't matter with [which] artist you're working and when you're working on it, it is always to deliver the best. And I have to say by what we have accomplished so far… The songs are finished in the composing; I just have to do some singing… But other than that, all the stuff is done. And I think we have 11 songs, and I personally would say they're all top notch. They define what DEMONS & WIZARDS is, for sure, but you can also figure that there are, like, 15 years in between this album and the last album, and we have changed as persons; we've become different characters. The approach was the same in many ways. Of course, Jon had a little break where he gathered energy and provided me with the stuff, but then it was [the same type of] situation as we have had in the past, and that just went perfect."
Added Jon: "This cycle was different, because at the end of [ICED EARTH's] 'Incorruptible' album cycle, I went out to the mountains in Arizona and hiked for a month and spent one week with my [ICED EARTH] bandmates, because we were going on hiatus. So the five of us went out into the desert and stayed together, and then I stayed three weeks by myself and got an enormous amount of power from that and energy from just staying away from the music business and not talking to management. I talked to Hansi about twice, and other than that, I was completely disconnected from everybody, and it was a really great thing. So when I got back to songwriting, it was, like, 'Boom!' Everything went really fast, and I knew there was really, really strong material, and it's good. And the arrangements came, and everything came, and I started sending Hansi stuff. I knew, from an instrumental standpoint, that this is some of the best material I've ever written. And then when he added his stuff on top, it was, like, 'Okay, we have something really special for the people.' And at the end of the day, I actually don't care if you guys love it, because I do, and [Hansi] does. And that sounds harsh, but that's art, and it's honest — it's actually honest. And it's real, and it is actually some of the best material I've written in my entire life, from my standpoint, and what [Hansi has] done, it's killer. And people are gonna be shocked, I think — very pleasantly shocked — by what's coming, honestly."
DEMONS & WIZARDS' as-yet-untitled third studio LP is scheduled to be released in early 2020.
The band kicked off its first tour in nearly two decades on May 31 in Saarbrücken, Germany.
The DEMONS & WIZARDS touring lineup is as follows:
* Hansi Kürsch (BLIND GUARDIAN) - Lead Vocals
* Jon Schaffer (ICED EARTH) - Guitar
* Jake Dreyer (WITHERFALL, ICED EARTH) - Lead Guitar
* Marcus Siepen (BLIND GUARDIAN) - Bass
* Fredrik Ehmke (BLIND GUARDIAN, SINBREED) - Drums
* Joost Van Den Broek (AFTER FOREVER, AYREON) - Keyboards
DEMONS & WIZARDS recently released remastered versions of its first two albums on all digital platforms. Remastered by Chris "Zeuss" Harris (ICED EARTH, QUEENSRŸCHE, SANCTUARY), "Demons & Wizards" (2000) and "Touched By The Crimson King" (2005) were also released as expanded deluxe editions on June 7. The expanded editions feature liner notes by Kürsch and Schaffer as well as bonus material and were released as a limited-edition digipak, deluxe 2LP with etching and LP booklet as well as digital deluxe editions.
DEMONS & WIZARDS recently embarked on the "A Magical Encounter With Demons & Wizards" North American headline tour. The band hit the road starting August 17 in Los Angeles and will wrap up the trek with a sold-out show on September 7 in Atlanta. 3

MICHAEL SCHENKER Says GRAHAM BONNET Was 'Offended' By 'Revelation' Album CoverMichael Schenker spoke to Metal-Rules.com about the provocative cover artwork for the first two albums from his MICHAEL SCHENKER FEST project. While the artwork for 2018's "Resurrection" recreated "The Last Supper", the late 15th-century mural painting by Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci, 2019's "Revelation" features an oil painting-style cover that recreates the ancient crucifixion scene.
Schenker said: "I didn't come up with them. The idea I had which I told the record company for ['Resurrection'] was to have a photo all the guys in the studio hanging around a big table or having a party/fest in the control room of the studio. We could then call it MICHAEL SCHENKER FEST in the studio. Someone from the record company sent me a photo of the last supper. [Laughs] I told them that it was not what I meant. Somehow, people started liking the idea, and it soon evolved. Then Doogie [White, vocals] started singing 'Take Me To The Church'. I was, like, what is going on here? It was getting crazy, and I said, 'We might as well call the CD 'Resurrection'.' [Laughs] One thing leads to another.
"For 'Revelation''s artwork, I had sketched out an idea of being tortured when I was slandered from the SCORPIONS days," he continued. "Also, at some point in the '90s, I was invited to join a bunch of musicians on stage in front of thousands of people and handed a guitar that was completely out of tune. It was humiliating. I was being set up, tortured, and hated. The other title we had for the CD was 'Purity And Compassion Vs. Greed And Corruption'. Basically, it has nothing to do with crucifixion; it is about me being tortured in my middle years."
He continued: "I wanted to work on myself and create music; to understand things more about myself. I had enough fame from my music to decide if I wanted to stay with the fame. I didn't need it, so I disconnected with it and created the MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP. The CD 'Into The Arena' was actually about getting on the battlefield.
"On this cover, I'm not nailed to a guitar, I'm tied to it with rope. The Flying V and I were cursed in that period of time and totally distorted by my brother, Rudolf Schenker, using the same black-and-white Flying V. I was leaving the orbit trying to see the world, doing my work, and people didn't know who the real Schenker was. [Laughs] That is why I'm hanging on the Flying V with the rest of the guys.
"The problem with the CD cover is the painter misunderstood the concept in the beginning and the first iteration had the band hanging me on the guitar. I told him it doesn't make sense. I'm supposed to be hanging on the guitar, and the band is supposed to be rescuing me. The front cover ended up as if the singers are glorifying me. That wasn't the idea either; I must have overlooked it when I was proofing the artwork because I was so blown away with the beauty of it and how it was painted. The back of the CD cover is the way it was meant to be with the singers in fighting mode trying to get me off the guitar. The story is supposed to be that they cut me off the guitar and here we are. We've succeeded, we're back, and we are carrying on. It's a celebration of surviving the middle years, and now we are all together.
"I only learned a few weeks ago that Graham [Bonnet, vocals] was offended by the CD cover. I took another look at it and was, like, 'Shit. I'm not surprised.' Doogie should be more offended as he looks like he is worshiping me. I never noticed it, and I'm really embarrassed by it. They should have been looking to get me off the guitar to save the MICHAEL SCHENKER FEST. It's a bummer."
"Revelation" will be released on September 20 via Nuclear Blast. The disc was produced by Michael Schenker and Michael Voss and was recorded and mixed by Voss at Kidpool Studio Greven & Kidwood Studio in Münstertal, Germany between December 2018 and March 2019.
Besides the four vocalists — Gary Barden, Graham Bonnet, Robin McAuley and Doogie White — the LP features guest vocals on one track by Ronnie Romero from Ritchie Blackmore's RAINBOW. 2

SLIPKNOT's COREY TAYLOR Says Unreleased 2008 Music Has 'Much More Of A RADIOHEAD Vibe'SLIPKNOT singer Corey Taylor says it will be "really cool" for fans to finally hear a set of 11 previously unreleased songs recorded by four members of the band during the sessions for its 2008 LP "All Hope Is Gone".
Percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan revealed the existence of the music last year, saying that he, Taylor, guitarist Jim Root and DJ Sid Wilson wrote and laid down the more psychedelic-flavored tunes at a separate studio during an impasse in the recording of "All Hope Is Gone".
While doing press recently for the new SLIPKNOT disc, "We Are Not Your Kind", Taylor told SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation": "We've been trying to find a way to release those songs for God knows how long. They were actually something that we were recording… We had two different studios going on. And one group of guys was recording what ended up becoming 'Look Outside Your Window', and then the bulk of the band was making 'All Hope Is Gone'.
"The stuff from 'Look Outside Your Window' is really, really — I mean, there's no real way to describe it," he continued. "It's experimental, but it's super vibey, super melodic. It's really good. It's hard to explain. There's something about those songs. They're very solemn, very energetic, very artistic. For people who are used to a certain way of SLIPKNOT sounding, this doesn't sound anything like that. It's much more of a rock vibe. Honestly, it's much more of a RADIOHEAD vibe, to be honest."
Story continues after advertisement
propertag.cmd.push(function() { proper_display('blabbermouth_news_side_1'); });
According to Taylor, the music that was recorded for "Look Outside Your Window" was originally supposed to be released simultaneously with the "All Hope Is Gone" tracks, but the plan never quite came together.
"Man, I tried like hell to make those two worlds come together — 'All Hope Is Gone' and 'Look Outside Your Window' — to the point where I was taking songs from both and kind of putting them together, like arrangement, sequencing," Corey said. "I had two different versions of 'All Hope Is Gone' that I had put together with songs from that. And just honestly, because of the emotional rifts that were in the band, the turmoil that was going on, nobody wanted to try and make that work. So what we ended up with was 'All Hope Is Gone' and then this unreleased album, which we've been trying to find a way to release this for a really long time. And I think Clown has figured out a way to do it. So I guess that's gonna see the light of day, but they keep threatening to do that every couple of years, so I'm not really sure… When it comes out, I'll be, like, 'Okay, cool. It's out now.' And I'd love for people to hear it. It's got some of my best writing, some of my best singing on it. I think people will really, really dig it. But, like I said, it doesn't really sound like the SLIPKNOT that people are used to. It's a lot more in the vein of the more melodic stuff on this album."
Corey went on to say that the main reason SLIPKNOT hasn't yet released the material from the "Look Outside Your Window" sessions is the fact that he and his bandmates have been trying to figure out how they "wanted to present it to the fans." He explained: "I think there's a large percentage of the fans who will actually really, really dig it. Obviously, the people who are into the heavier stuff probably won't get it at first — they might dig it later. It's always about the right time with Clown. Once you spend more time with Clown, you realize that the wizard is always trying to figure out the right time for everything. And I respect him for that, man — that's the artist in him. Honestly, he's been our secret weapon since Day One. The reason that everything sounds as interesting as it does, looks as cool — all of the artwork — is all because of him. And I don't think anybody in the band really gives him enough credit. So I'm gonna do my very best to make sure that he gets all that credit. For him, this 'Look Outside Your Window' album was really his baby. He spent a lot of time and he put a lot of emotion into that album. And it'll be really cool to see people finally get to hear it."
One of the songs from "Look Outside Your Window", "'Til We Die", surfaced on the digipak of "All Hope Is Gone", but the rest have yet to see the light of day. Crahan said last year: "It wasn't going to be one of those things to loosely go out and confuse everyone... The right way is that sooner or later, people need to be made aware of it because it's the truth. It happened."
More recently, Crahan told Loudwire about the timing of the "Look Outside Your Window" release: "We have 11 songs that we're gonna release sometime in this album cycle. But it's never been about just getting it out. It needs to be out when it's right and by coming out during this album cycle people will even understand more what we're doing on this album and what first led to it."
"We Are Not Your Kind" was released on August 9 via Roadrunner. 4

JOHN COOPER Says Opening For IRON MAIDEN Is 'Awesomest' Thing SKILLET Has Ever DoneSKILLET frontman John Cooper, who launched a new metal project called FIGHT THE FURY last year, spoke about his love of all things heavy during a recent interview with Anne Erickson of Audio Ink Radio.
Asked for his opinion on artists like Ozzy Osbourne and SLAYER calling it quits, Cooper said (hear audio below): "I'm a humongous Ozzy Osbourne fan — always been, ever since I was a kid. I was never a huge SLAYER fan, though we just played with SLAYER two nights ago, and it was an amazing experience. They are such icons. Anytime you can play with somebody… Whether you love the music or not, it's a real honor to be on the stage with bands like that… I was a massive METALLICA fan, massive Ozzy fan... There's a lot more than that. MEGADETH. But METALLICA is the best metal band of all time, in my opinion. We never played on the same stage as METALLICA, though we did play at the same festival one day, which is kind of bragging rights, I guess. [Laughs] But last year, probably the number one awesomest thing SKILLET's ever done [is that] we opened up for IRON MAIDEN [in Europe] last year — we did three shows together. It was unreal. I love MAIDEN. Huge fan. And they are as amazing as they ever were. Unbelievable."
FIGHT THE FURY released its debut EP, "Still Breathing", last October via Atlantic. The band also features SKILLET guitarist Seth Morrison, along with drummer Jared Ward and guitarist John Panzer III.
SKILLET is currently on the road in support of its tenth full-length album, "Victorious", which was released on August 2 via Atlantic.
SKILLET has sold more than 12 million albums. The band's past four releases — from 2006's "Comatose" to 2016's "Unleashed" — have been certified at least gold by the Recording Industry Association Of America (RIAA). SKILLET's 2009 album "Awake" has gone double platinum. 2

GLENN HUGHES Says BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION Will Record New Album In January 2021Prior to his performance at the recent Stonedeaf festival in Coddington, United Kingdom, Glenn Hughes (DEEP PURPLE, BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION) spoke with Tony Heare of Midlands Metalheads Radio. The full conversation can be seen below. A few excerpts follow (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).
On his health:
Glenn: "[I feel] incredible. I needed to take a minute in May to breathe. I needed to do that. The tour [that was postponed] is going to happen in November, and I'm very happy to tell you that everything is great."
On DEEP PURPLE:
Glenn: "I saw them at Wolverhampton Civic, as my manager in TRAPEZE, Tony Perry, was the executive [in charge] at the Civic Hall Wolverhampton. I saw them on the 'Highway Star' album, 'Machine Head'. I hadn't really heard them at all, because I'd been living in America since the early '70s, so I missed 'Fireball' and a couple of other records. I saw them live, and they were in the full flow of 'Smoke On The Water' and 'Highway Star'. I was very impressed with what I saw. I saw [Ritchie] Blackmore doing his thing. I saw a very cool band [and a] great musician. That was my first memory. The only things I heard from DEEP PURPLE living basically on the road in America — I've never been, really, a guy to listen to radio — was 'Highway Star' and 'Hush' and 'Smoke On The Water'. Those three songs were mega, mega songs... They were asking me [to join] for a year, kind of flirting with me, all the way through '72-'73. [They] wanted to meet with me, and I met with them three times each individually, and then in April of '73, I was playing in Baltimore, Maryland, and I had two days free. They were playing in those days at [New York City's] Madison Square Garden. Jon [Lord] called me up and said, 'You want to have dinner tomorrow night? We're playing here. After the show, we can go out.' I saw them play, and it was incredible. They were on fire. The next day, I'm sitting with Jon Lord, Ian Paice and Ritchie Blackmore. There's no Ian Gillan; there's no Roger Glover. I didn't know what was going on, and their lawyer and two managers, after about half an hour, said, 'We'd like you to join the band.' I said, 'Me?' I said, 'Great.' [Then they said,] 'But we want you to play bass.' The next second thought was, 'What? Surely you'd like me to sing also.' Ritchie said, 'We want to find another singer so it can be two singers'... They wanted somebody to play bass who could sing, and a new [member] who didn't sound and look like Gillan... The band announced to me that the singer they were going to ask and wanted was Paul Rodgers, my dear friend. The second they said Paul Rodgers, a little voice said to me, 'Imagine him and I singing some songs together. Okay, I think I'll join.' Of course, three days later, when the word went out that I'd joined the band, Paul had started BAD COMPANY, so what was I to do? I made friends with Ian Paice. I actually moved into his house in London. That's where it started, and after about six and seven weeks, we started to receive reels and reels — maybe five or six hundred — until one day, we found a guy from the Northeast [who] sent a RIGHTEOUS BROTHERS song. Ritchie went, 'Hang on a minute. This doesn't sound like anything we've heard before'... We invited David Coverdale to come down on the train. David came down with a bottle of Bell's whisky to play with us. He was a little bit legless, and we started to jam with him. Then Ritchie, Jon and Ian went for lunch, and I said to David, 'Why don't we stay here? We'll go to the piano, we'll do something quiet [and] we'll see how our voices mend together.' The great and glorious thing about that was his voice was deeper and wider, and mine was bright and, you know, the Glenn thing. What most people don't realize is we had the same vibrato — the same exact vibrato, to the point of injury. When they came back, we played them what we had come up with, and that was a big part of him getting the gig. I love him — I've always loved him, and I always will. I'm so glad he got that gig. He deserved it."
On DEEP PURPLE's 1974 album "Stormbringer", which was recorded prior to Blackmore's first departure from the band:
Glenn: "We didn't know Ritchie was going to leave... Ritchie brought in two songs: 'Stormbringer' and 'Soldier Of Fortune'. Jon, Ian, David and myself were left with the carnage of writing a record without Ritchie being that involved. He was involved, but his head was somewhere else. Little did we know at the time, his head was out with by brother Ronnie [James Dio]. Some songs on 'Stormbringer' are very un-DEEP PURPLE-ish, but... 'Stormbringer' was meant to happen. It's a beautiful piece of work. I love that record."
On the future of BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION:
Glenn: "Joe [Bonamassa, guitars] and I have been talking. We've been talking for nine months now about album number five. At the moment, we have an earmark — we're looking at January 2021 to record. Hopefully we can go through with that."
On whether he'll ever resurrect CALIFORNIA BREED, his project with drummer Jason Bonham (BONHAM, FOREIGNER):
Glenn: "No. Jason's gone. I can't replace Jason in a band. It was only a trio. Jason's my dear brother. I knew his father... I've know Jason since he was [a child], but more than that, Jason Bonham breathes air into any project he does, especially CALIFORNIA BREED."
On HUGHES/THRALL, his short-lived project with former PAT TRAVERS BAND guitarist Pat Thrall:
Glenn: "We recorded [album] number two [in] 1999 and 2000. It sounds amazing, but they're not songs that could come out today and people will go, 'This is great, but what is it?'... BLACK COUNTRY, for me, is putting that certain hat on. I'm singing. It must be that way for the rest of my life. HUGHES/THRALL II is slightly off that chart. It's amazing, but it may cause people to go, 'Is that really G?'"
Hughes fronted DEEP PURPLE from 1973 until the group's initial breakup in 1976. He has also recorded with acts such as BLACK SABBATH, Gary Moore and Joe Satriani.
BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION — which features Hughes, Bonamassa, Bonham and keyboardist Derek Sherinian (SONS OF APOLLO, DREAM THEATER) — released its most recent album, "BCCIV", in 2017.

OZZY OSBOURNE: 'It's Been One Of The Most F**ked-Up Years Of My Life'This past April, Ozzy Osbourne postponed all his 2019 tour dates, both in North America and Europe, as he recovers from an injury sustained while dealing with his recent bout of pneumonia. The BLACK SABBATH frontman fell at his Los Angeles home, aggravating years-old injuries from his 2003 ATV accident that required surgery.
During an appearance on SiriusXM's Ozzy's Boneyard, Ozzy spoke to close friend Billy Morrison about his recent health issues and his recovery. Ozzy said (see video below): "It's been one of the most fucked-up years of my life. I broke my neck in January, I had pneumonia, I've had fucking blood clots… It's been an eventful year, to say the least. I have been in such pain this year.
"I was doing that farewell tour, and it was going great," he continued. "I was singing better than I've sang [in a long time], and I was really happy. I went home for a short break and I got two staph infections in two of my fingers. God knows how that happened. That cleared up. Then I did the New Year's Eve show at the Forum here in Los Angeles. That was the last gig I did, 'cause the following February, I went for a bathroom break in the night and lost my footing. I hit the deck like a fucking ton of bricks."
Elaborating on the most recent incident where he required surgery, Ozzy said: "I don't know if you remember, a few years back, I had a quad bike accident. I'd done some damage there, but they just patched me up. For the last 10 years, I've been getting electric shocks down my arm. So when I fell down just after New Year's Eve, I was lying there and I said, 'Well, you've fucking done it.' So then I said to Sharon [Ozzy's wife]… She goes, 'What are you doing?' It was two o'clock in the morning. I said, 'I think I broke my neck.' She goes, Oh, go and get back in bed.' I said, 'No. Call an ambulance.' So that was it."
Ozzy was in a coma for eight days in December of 2003 when he accidentally crashed an ATV while riding on the grounds of his English estate. He broke his collarbone, several ribs and a neck vertebra in the incident, of which he told The Pulse Of Radio he had very little memory.
Most of the 2019 shows on Ozzy's last full world tour have been rescheduled beginning in February 2020. Fans are being asked to hold on to their original tickets, as they will be honored for the rescheduled dates. Because some of the 2019 dates were festival appearances, not all will be rescheduled.

STEEL PANTHER's Act Wasn't Affected By #MeToo Movement: 'We're Not F**king Changing For Nobody'In a brand new interview with "The Classic Metal Show", STEEL PANTHER drummer Stix Zadinia (real name Darren Leader) was asked if the #MeToo movement has made it more difficult for the him and his bandmates to continue performing songs that ooze with misogyny and sexism, and inviting girls up on stage to flash their breasts. He said (hear audio below): "I remember being at festivals a couple of years ago and we started getting questions about #MeToo. And they're, like, 'Are you guys concerned about it?' and we're, like, 'No.' We do what we do, and we fucking rock, and we sing about pussy and we sing about partying and we sing about heavy metal. And we sing about the shit that we do every fucking day. And there's no way that this band, that any one of us four, would ever consider going, 'You know what, guys? Maybe we should tone it down so we don't bum anybody out.' It's the whole reason we fucking started playing music, man. There's a freedom about being in STEEL PANTHER that we can say what we want, how we want. And the way that you feel about it as a listener, that's exactly what we're going for. We want people to fucking feel like they can just let their fucking hair down with STEEL PANTHER. That was very intentional. We're, like, 'We're not fucking changing for nobody.'"
During the same chat, Zadinia once again defended STEEL PANTHER against criticism over the guitar effect preset they released last year called "Pussy Melter". The "Pussy Melter" was blasted by a number of other musicians, who came forward to express their disdain for the name, citing its sexist undertones, and rallying for the product to be pulled.
"There were a lot of conversations about, like, 'I can't believe this is a real thing happening,'" Stix recalled about his band's reaction to the controversy. "It was never a question of whether or not we should continue down that road. And I think how we handled it — I'm proud of how we handled it. We didn't go after anyone. We didn't say, 'Fuck you!' We didn't go after the people who kind of came after us.
"Look, I get it. If you don't like something, that's totally fucking cool," he continued. "If you don't love STEEL PANTHER, or you hate us, it doesn't matter and everyone's entitled to however the fuck they feel. But the problem was, when people start going, 'I don't like that, so I'm gonna try to make sure nobody else has access to it,' that's where we fucking stood our ground; we said, 'Fuck that!' And that's what we were kind of railing against. That somebody was offended, I get it — that's cool. Not everything is for everyone. But you can't fucking police the world. When it comes to America and free speech and calling something a 'pussy melter' when you have fucking porn out there, people fucking on the tube sites — which, don't get me wrong; I fucking love it — but if you're offended by that, then just don't fucking watch it. But you can't try to shut it down so other people can't enjoy it. We were, like, 'Fuck you! You're not the boss of us.' … We can all agree on some certain shit that's not acceptable, and there is some shit that crosses the line. But 'Pussy Melter' is not one of them."
STEEL PANTHER's fifth studio album, "Heavy Metal Rules", will be released on September 27. The disc was once again produced by Jay Ruston, who collaborated with the band on all of its previous recordings, including its last LP, 2017's "Lower The Bar".

SABATON Bassist Says Group Isn't 'Promoting' War: 'It's Not About That; It's History'SABATON bassist Pär Sundström recently spoke with France's United Rock Nations. The full conversation can be streamed below. A few excerpts follow (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).
On premiering "Fields Of Verdun", the first single from the group's new album "The Great War", via a cover by APOCALYPTICA:
Pär: "I really like their version of it. It was an idea. I went down to Madrid to meet with the guys in APOCALYPTICA, because I had the idea that perhaps we can do it, so I wanted to see them myself and I wanted to see their concert. I like their band; I like their concept of the band. I went to see them and meet the guys, and I explained the idea, and they said, 'Wow, this is pretty cool.' I said, 'We need to do it before the song is actually out, so people will be a little bit shocked,' and people got shocked."
On whether the group felt any extra "pressure" to make a good album since it's currently the band's 20th anniversary:
Pär: "We always have a lot of pressure when we do an album. I would say it grows with every album. 20 years anniversary or not, it would be the same anyway. The 20-years anniversary didn't really affect us that much. We thought about it, and a lot of people were, like, 'Oh, you have to do a tour where you play old songs, and you have to do reissues of all the albums,' and we didn't want to do that. Let's focus on the future of SABATON instead of the past."
On the inspiration to write new album "The Great War":
Pär: "What we have been doing for many years is, a lot of the stuff that we sing about are ideas sent in by fans... Some of the ideas on this album, we would have not known about if it wasn't for our fans. They do contribute. On this one, not for any research, because we had our own historians at this time, so we didn't need any historical input, but some ideas about the topics. For most of our albums lately, there's been a lot of input by the fans... Even if World War I is less known than World War II in major medias and in popular culture, we still have some topics that we knew we wanted to cover, some topics that we wanted to sing about. A lot of them came out from ourselves, and a few came from fans. 'Attack Of The Dead Man', that is purely created by a story sent in by our fans. Those that fans send in, it's just scratching the surface. We don't want to get the full picture of an event immediately. We get just a tiny bit of the idea. Then, we're like, 'What kind of mood does this topic [convey]? It's a happy mood? It's a sad mood? It's a horrible, scary mood? Whatever mood we get from the topic, we find a song for it — a musical piece that we have written — and then we match them. Then, when we're like, 'Okay, this will match,' we start reading and researching... It's a topic that engages us, so we were quite excited when doing it. It's interesting to do the research. To say that it's interesting about war, some people might say, 'Oh, you're promoting war.' It's not about that. It's history."
On SABATON's lyrics:
Pär: "War is not really black-and-white. War always has a very gray color, because war is conceived by different sides for whatever [reasons] they have. In all conflicts, there are a lot of losers and a lot of people who have their different inputs and think that, 'We are the good guys. They are the bad.' For SABATON, it's not about taking a stand. We write the songs from different kinds of angles all the time, but they are not our angle. We are not there to say, 'This was right. This was bad.' We are there to tell the story — to retell the story from one side. But they are not our [side]."
On the origins of his interest in military history:
Pär: "Partly, it comes from starting to write about it. I liked history before, and so did Joakim [Brodén, vocals], and the first songs we wrote had no connection to this whatsoever. We were, 'This is no fun to write lyrics for the songs. They don't mean anything. We need to write about something that matters — something that is real.' We started to write about military history, and as time goes, our interest becomes deeper and deeper... We wanted to write about something where everybody has emotions towards. No matter if you have been living in Sweden, who has been neutral — thankfully, we haven't seen war in Sweden for a very long time — but even if you live in Sweden or you live in a war-torn country somewhere in the world, you have a connection to war. War, unfortunately, is something that unites all people."
SABATON's ninth album, "The Great War" was released on July 19 via Nuclear Blast Records. The band started recording the disc exactly 100 years after the end of the first World War (November 11, 1918) and took three months of intensive work to complete the album with longtime producer and collaborator Jonas Kjellgren at Black Lounge studios. The effort was mastered by Maor Appelbaum and the artwork was once again created by Peter Sallaí. 3

TARJA: Audio Samples Of Entire 'In The Raw' AlbumAudio samples of all the songs that are set to appear on "In The Raw", the forthcoming studio album from former NIGHTWISH singer Tarja Turunen, can be streamed below. The disc will be released on August 30 via earMUSIC.
As the saying goes, not all that glitters is gold. But then again, not all that is gold necessarily glitters. It was this idea that struck Tarja as she began work on "In The Raw".
Three years on from her last album, 2016's "The Shadow Self", "In The Raw" finds Tarja and her beautiful voice sounding as stunning as ever. Working with many of the same musicians and production team as before, the intention was to bring out the idea of rawness to match the feelings Tarja was having from the very beginning of the process.
"In The Raw" sees Tarja tapping into raw emotion and going to personal places in her lyrics. Opening herself up more than ever before, she says she was left feeling naked by her honesty, but also pleased at where she had gone with her words.
"Gold, we think, is something polished and perfect, sophisticated, a luxury. But in its natural state, it's a raw element," explains the singer. That sentiment encompasses the music on her upcoming album: a combination of sophisticated and refined orchestration, choir, and her classically trained voice with a raw, dark heavy musical core. Simply put, "In The Raw" is a gold-plated work of wonder.
The concept of gold and its raw state extends to the album's artwork. It finds Tarja in St Michael's Cave, Gibraltar, framed in vivid color and golden sheen.
The first look at the album, the brand-new song "Dead Promises", is all this and more. Matching the stunning power of Tarja's voice with a thunderous guitar, the aggression she speaks of is brought to the front, not threatening to shatter something fragile, but reinforcing its power.
"I really like how the guitar sounds: in your face," she says. "If I'm singing powerfully, I need something powerful behind me so that I don't feel like I am left alone."
Fans will find that the album includes an amazing duet version of the song with guest vocals by Björn "Speed" Strid of SOILWORK.
"In The Raw" track listing:
01. Dead Promises (with Björn "Speed" Strid)
02. Goodbye Stranger (with Cristina Scabbia)
03. Tears In Rain
04. Railroads
05. You And I
06. The Golden Chamber: Awaken / Loputon Yö / Alchemy
07. Spirits Of The Sea
08. Silent Masquerade (with Tommy Karevik)
09. Serene
10. Shadow Play
Last year, Tarja told Bloodlines that her new album would be "darker" and "a bit heavier" than 2016's "The Shadow Self". But she added that she would never forget "the symphonic side of mine, as my first love of music was classical music, so I will never get away from that." 30

LEPROUS To Release 'Pitfalls' Album In OctoberNorwegian rock outfit LEPROUS will release its sixth and most ambitious studio album, "Pitfalls", on October 25 worldwide via InsideOut Music.
"Pitfalls" was once again recorded with David Castillo at Ghostward Studios (OPETH, KATATONIA). The disc was mixed by Adam Noble (PLACEBO, BIFFY CLYRO, NOTHING BUT THIEVES, DEAF HAVANA). The cover artwork is a painting by Indonesian artist Elicia Edijanto.
"Pitfalls" will be available as limited mediabook CD with two bonus tracks, as a standard jewelcase CD and as gatefold 2LP on 180-gram vinyl (on black vinyl and various limited colored editions) with the album on CD as bonus and an etching on the D side.
"Pitfalls" track listing:
01. Below
02. I Lose Hope
03. Observe The Train
04. By My Throne
05. Alleviate
06. At The Bottom
07. Distant Bells
08. Foreigner
09. The Sky Is Red
LEPROUS vocalist and keyboardist Einar Solberg checked in with the following comment about the upcoming album: "We're incredibly proud to announce 'Pitfalls'! It's the album no-one is expecting from LEPROUS. When you think you know where it's headed, you'll realize that you're wrong. It's not only by far the biggest production and musical departure we've done, but the also most personal and honest.
"The album has been written through one of my toughest years, where I struggled with depression and anxiety. No filters, no metaphors, just the truth. They say that writing music is therapeutic. but I would say that it's an understatement. For me, 'Pitfalls' is the result of one and a half years of learning how to get through the dark tunnel. The music has been my torch."
A video trailer for "Pitfalls" is available below.
The album’s first single and video will be launched this Friday, August 30.
Upon "Pitfalls"' release, LEPROUS will head out on an extensive European headlining tour with THE OCEAN and PORT NOIR.
LEPROUS recently performed a stunning set at Germany's Summer Breeze festival and used the opportunity to record a special acoustic version of the "Malina" track "From The Flame" for WDR "Rockpalast".

ORANGE GOBLIN Drummer Denied Entry To U.S. Due To Visa IssuesBritish stoner metal titans ORANGE GOBLIN will play their previously announced U.S. dates without longtime drummer Chris Turner, who has been denied entry to America due to visa issues.
The band's six-show run, which kicks off on Tuesday, August 27, includes select stops in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Austin and Dallas, as well as an appearance at the Muddy Roots festival in Cookeville, Tennessee.
ORANGE GOBLIN explained Turner's absence from the shows in a lengthy Facebook post earlier today. The band wrote: "It is with a heavy heart that we have to report that our drummer, and an integral member of the band for 25 years, Chris Turner will not be boarding the plane tomorrow (August 25th) to play the upcoming US tour dates.
"Despite starting our visa application process over three months ago, despite having one of the top companies put our petition in, despite the endless red tape and hoops we had to jump through we were only given a last minute embassy appointment. At that appointment Chris was told that he would have to provide extra information for 'Administrative Processing', this despite having had 6 US working visas previously, as well as a US social security number.
"This 'extra info' required was 15 years international travel history (every single ORANGE GOBLIN show outside the UK plus every single personal and family holiday Chris has taken), 15 years address history, 15 years employment history, all the names and birthdays of his entire family, every phone number and email address he's used in the last 15 years and all his social media info. Bear in mind Chris has no criminal record (even had a clean driving licence for over 30 years), He is not a member of or affilaited with any political group or organisation and he hasn't travelled to a blacklisted country.
"Chris managed to get all this information emailed over to them within four hours of the embassy appointment. Despite this, despite the hard work of our US agent, despite the hard work on Chris's behalf from our US legal team, despite having a US Senators office supporting his case and contacting the embassy directly, despite all this he still hasn't had a visa issued and will be unable to travel to the USA, no information has been forthcoming. In fact, as it stands he hasn't even had his passport returned to him (possibly by next Thursday). He still then won't have a visa and may not ever get a visa.
"According to our legal team they've seen an increasing ammount of these extra info requests since the current administration took over and it's becoming harder and harder (and more expensive) for touring artists to visit and work in the USA. In this case specifically they can find absolutely no reason why this info was requested of Chris, why the process is taking so long and why there is zero information forthcoming from the embassy/immigration. In their opinion, Chris has just been singled out for reasons or by individuals unknown.
"Not only is this a shitty situation for Chris but it's a terrible one for the band, we've already incurred $15-20k costs (visas, flights, accomodation, crew, merch, backline hire etc.) and for the band not to do these shows would bankrupt us — ORANGE GOBLIN would cease to exist. Consequently Ben, Martyn and Joe will still be travelling, and have fortunately found a substitute drummer, Mr. Chad Walls, who is learning the set in a few days and will spend all day Monday in a Manhattan rehearsal studio going over the songs ahead of the first show in NYC on Tuesday. It's not ideal, it's actually far from ideal for everyone involved but suffice it to say we are all working flat out to make these shows happen.
"If you were planning to see ORANGE GOBLIN in the USA we need your support now more than ever, come to the shows, show your support to the band, show your support to the substitute drummer, show your support to Chris, buy some merch, drink some beer, and never let the bastards grind ya down...."
ORANGE GOBLIN U.S. tour dates:
Aug. 27 - New York, NY - Gramercy Theatre
Aug. 29 - Chicago, IL - Thalia Hall
Aug. 30 - Cookeville, TN - Muddy Roots
Aug. 31 - Dallas, TX - Gas Monkey
Sep. 01 - Austin, TX - Come And Take It Live
Sep. 02 - Los Angeles, CA - Regent Theater
It is with a heavy heart that we have to report that our drummer, and an integral member of the band for 25 years, Chris...Posted by Orange Goblin on Saturday, August 24, 20191

CYHRA Feat. Former IN FLAMES, AMARANTHE Members: Second Album To Be Released Via NUCLEAR BLASTCYHRA, the band featuring vocalist Jake E (ex-AMARANTHE), guitarist Jesper Strömblad (ex-IN FLAMES), guitarist Euge Valovirta (ex-SHINING) and drummer Alex Landenburg (LUCA TURILLI'S RHAPSODY), has inked a worldwide deal with Nuclear Blast Records. The band's sophomore full-length album will tentatively be released before the end of the year.
CYHRA comments: "Finally we can share this awesome news with the world! We're beyond excited to start a new chapter in CYHRA's career and to start working with the No. 1 metal label in the world. This will be a life-changing experience”.
In addition, CYHRA has announced a European tour with new labelmates BATTLE BEAST. The trek will kick off in Sweden on November 15.
Last year, Jake told Finland's Tuonela magazine about the songwriting process for CYHRA's next studio album: "It started off that me and Jesper started to sit down and make the foundations of songs. Then Euge came in and had tons of ideas and then we sent it over to Alex. We threw stuff back and forth, so this was a complete band effort this time. Everyone was involved both in musical writing and in lyric writing."
Added Alex: "It was very organic. A lot happened in the studio. This time, the demos were rougher and less detailed than on the first one. The first one, Jake and Jesper had worked out a couple of songs too detailed then you don't have much space anymore to do things. You're just used to what it sounds like. You're more or less trying to do it the same way in the studio. This time, it was very organic and a lot of collaboration in the studio. It was great."
Said Euge: "We wrote songs in the studio. It was really inspiring because we were all there at the same time because the first album was done. I write guitars in my own studio, but we were all there and living there together, so it was 24/7 together for the four weeks, so there was a lot inspiration."
Continued Jake: "I don't get how we did it the last time. The first album, Alex recorded the drums in Gothenburg together with the guitars and then we switched studios for the bass to a complete other studio in Sweden. Then I flew to New York to do the vocals. Then Euge did his parts in Riga, then we mixed in Denmark. It was the biggest fucking puzzle last time. This time, we decided that we're going to go to one place."
Regarding how CYHRA's sound progressed on its forthcoming second album, Jake said: "We found our sound with the first album. We knew already what kind of music we wanted to play and how we wanted it to sound. Of course, two albums will sound differently, but not to the [extent] that they will be over here [holds hands wide apart]."
Added Alex: "We have a sound. It's clearly the same band. It changed and evolved, but I think it's mostly Euge having a bigger part in the writing and the playing of the album and having the mindset of having two guitars on the album. So, naturally, it's more riff-oriented, more guitar-oriented than the first one. That is probably the biggest difference."
Asked what fans can expect from CYHRA's next studio album, Jake said: "[It will have] a little bit more live-oriented songs. We figured out that not a lot of the songs, but some of the songs on the first album didn't end up being that 'party' — if we can call them a little bit party poopers live, because they're great to listen to in general, but when you have a live set, it's hard. Usually when you release one album, you just get a couple of shows, and then you release a couple of more albums and your career takes off. We were fortunate enough to have our career take off pretty fast, and then we have to play the whole album, all the songs, because we don't have any other songs. But now with the new album, there's some songs that are faster and harder."
Added Euge: "It's a bit more guitar-oriented, like riff-oriented. There's more of those twin-guitar harmonized melodies and riffing than on the first album, but there's still stuff that has nice orchestrated stuff, so it's an evolution from the first album."
Said Alex: "In many aspects. The drums are more diverse than the first album just because on the first record as a band you have to find your sound and test the waters and see how far you can take things, what fits the band and I think all of us got an idea about how the band sounds when we started touring more and playing more. Then you realize, 'Okay, this is something I can do in this band and it works.' Then, on the second record, you can go a little more for that. But, the most obvious thing is the more guitars. More is more."
CYHRA made its live debut in October 2017 at Nosturi in Helsinki, Finland.
In early 2018, CYHRA completed a successful North American tour opening for SABATON and KREATOR. 1

Former MEGADETH Guitarist CHRIS POLAND Signs To DAVID ELLEFSON's COMBAT RECORDSFormer MEGADETH guitarist Chris Poland has signed to David Ellefson's relaunched Combat Records label. Combat will release a deluxe reissue of Chris's 1990 solo debut, "Return To Metalopolis", in November. Originally released on Enigma Records in 1990, "Metalopolis" was Poland's return to the stage after his 1987 departure from MEGADETH. Regarded by many as an unsung shred masterpiece, "Metalopolis" showcases Poland's signature jazz-infused thrash/rock style, in a collection of timeless instrumental compositions.
Says Poland: "I was out of MEGADETH, and went through rehab and had gotten clean. I had no gear, and I wasn't even sure if I wanted to ever play guitar again. Friends started bringing me gear; guitars, amps, pedals, telling me, 'you have to play again.' So, I started playing. Andy Sommers, MEGADETH's agent, heard I was clean and doing well, and THE CIRCLE JERKS needed a bassist, so I toured with them for over a year, playing bass. And while I was doing that, I was in the back of a 16-passenger van, writing the songs that would become 'Return To Metalopolis'.
"I didn't have a drummer, so I asked my brother Mark to play on it," he continued. "I said, 'We're gonna make a record, and I need you to play drums.' He agreed, and we started doing demos. Janie Hoffman shopped it and we got a really good deal with Capitol Records, but shortly after we did the deal, for whatever reason, we get a call from the A&R guy who says they can't do the deal on Capitol, but they offered me a deal on Enigma. So that's where it came out."
Poland states about "Return To Metalopolis": "I just feel like it's timeless. I don't listen to it and think that it's some dated '80s bullshit. It's not like that for me. Of course, I'm super close to it, and I love it, but I really feel like it has held up well."
The "Return To Metalopolis" reissue will be made available on November 22 on double CD, and digital, and in December on limited-edition double LP, and cassette, remastered with bonus material, including live tracks that originally appeared on the out-of-print 2007 release "Return To Metalopolis Live", plus three brand new tracks recorded in 2019, featuring the rhythm section of Carlos Cruz and Chase Bryant of WARBRINGER.
After over a decade with metal on the backburner, despite guest appearances with LAMB OF GOD, TOURNIQUET, REDEMPTION, and more, with Poland focusing his energy on playing and recording with his jazz fusion trio OHM:, which also featured late former MEGADETH drummer Nick Menza, and the CHRIS POLAND RESISTANCE, another fusion project being released by the eclectic modern jazz-centric Ropeadope Records, Poland has also announced work on the long-awaited follow up to "Metalopolis", to be released in 2020 on Combat.
"I never really got away from metal," Poland says. "I've always been a rock guy. And even the stuff we do with OHM: is really heavy and dynamic. But when I started playing with Nick (Menza) he really put a fire under my ass to write new, heavy music. I was over at his house every night after work, my wife told me I was having a 'bro-mance,' but I couldn't stop writing songs. Nick and I had hooked up with James LoMenzo [ex-MEGADETH, WHITE LION], and we were actually going to start a band together, which didn't work out, but I had literally hours and hours of ideas for songs that me and Nick were going to do together when he passed away. Now I'm working on putting them all together for a new solo release that will also come out on Combat."
On reconnecting with his former bandmate David Ellefson, and his Combat Records imprint, Poland adds: "I'm super excited about it. I had been talking to Thom (Hazaert), David's partner, and we had been bouncing ideas back and forth. The two of them came over to my studio in L.A. one night, we had a meeting, and ended up hanging out for hours and talking about it, and it just felt right. David said, 'We started on Combat, and this record deserves to come back to Combat.' And he was right."
Poland also appears on the track "Hammer Comes Down" on Ellefson's debut solo release, "Sleeping Giants", in stores now via Combat, which also features Hazaert on vocals. Poland will join Ellefson, Hazaert and their live band onstage Thursday, September in Fullerton, California at The Slidebar, as part of Ellefson's "Basstory" tour.
"Honestly the whole thing was a blur," says Poland. "Thom had told me they were working on what would become the 'Sleeping Giants' record, and I asked him if I could play on it. It was great to reconnect with David, musically, and the song has such a great energy. It was such a quick, painless process, and there's so many other incredible players on the song, Mark Tremonti, etc, that it really couldn't have been any cooler."

Frontman Ricky Warwick says: "This has probably been the most enjoyable experience in the studio I have had making a record. The vibe and commitment the boys brought into this was stellar. Our most anthemic and soulful album to date. I'm very proud and excited for people to hear 'Another State Of Grace'."

GEORGE LYNCH Is Still Hopeful Classic DOKKEN Lineup Will Play More ShowsIn a brand new interview with Metal Wani, guitar legend George Lynch was asked if there has been any talk between him and Don Dokken about the classic lineup of DOKKEN making one final studio record together. He responded: "We did about a year and a half ago. Jeff [Pilson, former DOKKEN bassist] and I were just starting to work on what became THE END MACHINE record. And for a minute, we were thinking it could be a DOKKEN record, if we could only get Don onboard. So at that point, we were talking to him about it, but obviously, it didn't happen."
George was also asked whether the classic DOKKEN lineup will ever do another U.S. tour. "Your guess is as good as mine," he responded. "At this moment, nothing like that's happening. But I would like to think so, since the four of us are still relatively healthy and alive and on planet earth, it would probably make sense. But I don't know. You've gotta get all four people to agree to do that, and that's tricky."
DOKKEN's classic lineup — Dokken, Lynch, Pilson and drummer "Wild" Mick Brown — reunited for a short Japanese tour in the fall of 2016. The trek marked the first time in 21 years the four musicians had hit the road together.
Since completing the Japanese reunion dates, DOKKEN has continued to perform with the group's current lineup — including bassist Chris McCarvill and guitarist Jon Levin — save for a handful of recent shows that saw drummer BJ Zampa (HOUSE OF LORDS) fill in for Brown.
A DOKKEN concert DVD focusing on the band's reunion tour, "Return To The East Live (2016)", was made available last year.
DOKKEN is currently working on material on a new studio album, tentatively due in 2020 via Silver Lining Music, the label owned by Thomas Jensen, one of the founders of Germany's Wacken Open Air festival. It will mark the group's first disc since 2012's "Broken Bones". 1

Video Premiere: DRAGONFORCE's 'Heart Demolition'The official music video for DRAGONFORCE's new single, "Heart Demolition", can be seen below. Directed by the Mase Brothers, the clip utilizes a classic arcade game look while the song features DRAGONFORCE's signature uplifting melodies and furious guitar solos.
Guitarist Herman Li said: "The fans are really going to like this video because it's classic DRAGONFORCE: big choruses and a tribute to the Sega Mega-Drive console. The haters are going to like it even more because you'll get to see Sam Totman without his hat on for the first time in 10 years, showing off how bald he has become!"
"Heart Demolition" is taken from DRAGONFORCE's eighth full-length album, "Extreme Power Metal", which will be released on September 27. Produced in Los Angeles, California by Damien Rainaud at Mix Unlimited, "Extreme Power Metal" was also recorded, in part, on Li's livestream channel on Twitch with participation from the fans.
"Extreme Power Metal" track listing:
01. Highway To Oblivion
02. Cosmic Power Of The Infinite Shred Machine
03. The Last Dragonborn
04. Heart Demolition
05. Troopers Of The Stars
06. Razorblade Meltdown
07. Strangers
08. In A Skyforged Dream
09. Remembrance Day
10. My Heart Will Go On
Regarding "Extreme Power Metal", Li said: "This album again combines the best of DRAGONFORCE in an even bigger, more epic way than we have ever done before. We are so excited for fans to hear it." Following the departure of Vadim Pruzhanov from the band last year, the keyboards of this new album were performed by Coen Janssen of symphonic metal titan EPICA, bringing a new dimension into a DRAGONFORCE album. Guitarist Sam Totman says: "We worked really closely with Coen on this new album. We are so happy with what he has brought into this new album. Every fan will be so happy to hear his majestic playing."
Following the release of "Extreme Power Metal", DRAGONFORCE will begin a world tour in support of it. Li promised: "In this age where our music is easily accessible, I am not going to waste time trying to describe the sound of our new album. I'll let the music do the talking. However, what I can tell you is our upcoming tour will be our biggest in a decade. We have a massive epic production and a really special surprise for VIPs. We can't wait to see everyone out on the road."
DRAGONFORCE recently parted ways with longtime bassist Frédéric Leclercq.
Leclercq, who became an official member of DRAGONFORCE in 2006, played his last show with the band earlier this month at Elb-Riot in Hamburg, Germany.
Filling in on bass for the U.S. leg of DRAGONFORCE's upcoming world tour will be musician and YouTube personality Stevie T (Steve Terreberry). 1

Hear New QUIET RIOT Song 'Don't Call It Love'"Don't Call It Love", the new single from veteran rockers QUIET RIOT, can be streamed below. The song is taken from the band's upcoming studio album, "Hollywood Cowboys", which will be released on November 8 via Frontiers Music Srl.
Asked how "Hollywood Cowboys" differs from other QUIET RIOT LPs, drummer Frankie Banali says: "This is the most diverse QUIET RIOT release. The songs run the gamut from straight-ahead balls-to-the-wall rock tracks to a blues song to double-bass-drum pedal-to-the-metal songs. There is a whole lotta grooves going on."
Speaking about "Don't Call It Love", Banali says: "The song essentially started with a straight-ahead drum groove that incorporates tempo lifts within the arrangement. It made it possible for Neil [Citron], my songwriting partner, and I to write and build a very concise track as a vehicle for what would follow lyrically. My dear friend and amazing songwriter Jacob Bunton wrote the lyrics for this track and several others as well as providing background vocals and just did a fantastic job."
The follow-up to 2017's "Road Rage" will feature the following songs:
01. Don't Call It Love
02. In The Blood
03. Heartbreak City
04. The Devil That You Know
05. Change Or Die
06. Roll On
07. Insanity
08. Hellbender
09. Wild Horses
10. Holding On
11. Last Outcast
12. Arrows And Angels
The cover artwork can be found below.
Banali previously told Canada's The Metal Voice about "Hollywood Cowboys": "My consideration always is — not because I have to, but because of the way I am — my first consideration when I'm writing something, and when I write together with my writing partner Neil Citron, is, 'Would [late QUIET RIOT singer] Kevin DuBrow like this?' And the greatest thing about Kevin is he was so open-minded and he had such a broad taste in music that there were very few things that he didn't like. For instance, on the [2006] 'Rehab' record, some of the things that Neil and I wrote Kevin really liked but it was not in his comfort zone, which is why we went out and had some of the lyrics co-written by Glenn Hughes. But, again, a lot of credit goes to Kevin, whereas I could play him a song and he would love it, and he would say, 'I don't know what to do with this.' But that did not make it impossible for it to be on the record. So that continues with the future QUIET RIOT studio release."
DuBrow died in November 2007 of an accidental cocaine overdose. He was 52 years old.
Banali resurrected QUIET RIOT in 2010, three years after DuBrow's death.
QUIET RIOT initially featured the late guitar legend Randy Rhoads and went through some early lineup shifts before securing the musicians that recorded the band's multi-platinum-selling 1983 album "Metal Health".
Bassist Chuck Wright has been a part of QUIET RIOT, on and off, since 1982, having initially been involved in the "Metal Health" recordings (he played bass on the tracks "Metal Health" and "Don't Wanna Let You Go"). Guitarist Alex Grossi was in the last version of the band, from 2004 through 2007, before Kevin passed away, and was asked by Banali to return in 2010.
QUIET RIOT went through two vocalists — Mark Huff and Scott Vokoun — before settling on Jizzy Pearl in 2013. Pearl announced his exit from QUIET RIOT in October 2016 and was briefly replaced by Seann Nichols, who played only five shows with the group before the March 2017 arrival of "American Idol" finalist James Durbin.
QUIET RIOT's performance at last year's Frontiers Rock Festival was released in January on CD/DVD and Blu-ray under the title "One Night In Milan".

BI*AS Feat. Former KORN Drummer DAVID SILVERIA: First-Ever Tour AnnouncedBI*AS, the new band featuring former KORN drummer David Silveria, will embark on its first-ever tour next month. The trek, which will kick off on September 19 in Las Vegas, will also feature NATAS LIVED.
Tour dates:
Sep. 19 - Las Vegas, Nevada @ Count's Vamp'd
Sep. 21 - Sacramento, California @ Vetraxx Festival
Sep. 22 - Lake Tahoe, California @ [to be announced]
Sep. 24 - Spokane, Washington @ The Pin
Sep. 25 - Seattle, Washington @ The Funhouse
Sep. 26 - Logan, Utah @ The Cache Venue
Sep. 27 - Pocatello, Idaho @ Bannock County FairGrounds
Sep. 28 - Salt Lake City, Utah @ The Royal
Sep. 29 - Phoenix, Arizona @ Joe's Grotto
After the tour, BI*AS will immediately hit the studio with producer Chris Collier (PRONG, KXM) to record its debut EP.
BI*AS recently released the official Matt Zane-directed music video for its latest single, "Hesitation".
David is joined in the Orange County, California-based group by bassist Chris Dorame, guitarists Joe Taback and Mike Martin and singer Rich Nguyen.
Silveria, Dorame and Taback previously played together in CORE 10, which "imploded" last year after releasing a couple of singles and playing a number of local shows.
"Hesitation" is the first song that Nguyen wrote with the band during its singer auditions. The track is about anxiety and how it can cause a lot of missed opportunities — if you let it. It talks about overcoming the barriers created by anxiety in your mind and pressing on no matter what. "Hesitation" is an anthem of overcoming anxiety and is meant to be a musical affirmation.
Nguyen commented: "This song in terms of sound is the exact middle ground between 'Pity' and 'Change Your Mind'. It has tons of melody and a smidge of aggression musically and vocally. Fans of the other two singles won't be disappointed."
Taback said about BI*AS: "We received hundreds of submissions from all over the world and heard a lot of amazingly talented people. Rich came in and we just instantly vibed. The songs flowed without a hitch. We were able to get a lot done with him in a very short span of time."
Added Dorame: "I felt that he immediately connected with what we are trying to portray musically; he fit right in. His style is unique, yet familiar enough to be the perfect voice for our music."
Silveria concurred. "Rich's work ethic drives us all to work harder in the studio; it's amazing," he said.
BI*AS made a big splash with its first single, "Pity", which came out in January. The track rapidly reached No. 23 on the Billboard (BDS) Indicator chart and No. 9 on the Foundations (SMR) chart. They have already reached 85,000 streams on Spotify and another 33,000 on YouTube.
"The lyrics that I write are both personal and abstract. Every song I write has two meanings; mine and your interpretation," Nguyen told OC Weekly. "I try to write my lyrics vague enough for people to relate to and form their own opinions. However, if you know me personally, you may be able to figure what I'm talking about, maybe."
"This band doesn't feel like work; it feels like getting together with buddies and just having fun," Silveria added. "This is how it should be."
As for the name of the band, Silveria said: "We chose BI*AS because everyone has their own opinions and preferences that influence their actions in some way or the other. Whether we know it or not, we all have our own version of bias." Nguyen added: "It's also short and simple."

Video: STEVE GRIMMETT'S GRIM REAPER Performs New Song 'At The Gates' In PoughkeepsieVideo footage of STEVE GRIMMETT'S GRIM REAPER, the revamped version of the cult '80s British metal act GRIM REAPER, performing the title track of its upcoming album, "At The Gates", on August 24 at The Chance Theater in Poughkeepsie, New York can be seen below (video by Kenny Kessel for The Metal Voice).
"At The Gates" will be released on October 11. According to a press release, the disc will contain "11 tracks of pure British heavy metal."
STEVE GRIMMETT'S GRIM REAPER has just kicked off a U.S. tour. There will also be a special one-off U.K. album-launch show on October 12 at London's Boston Music Rooms.
STEVE GRIMMETT'S GRIM REAPER lead singer Steve Grimmett had his right leg partially amputated in January 2017 after an infected wound on his foot spread to the bones in his leg part way through the group's five-week tour of South America.
The life-saving surgery was carried out in Ecuador and the now-59-year-old frontman was in hospital for just over a month while fans raised $14,000 to bring him home after his insurance company refused to pay because of the type of work he was doing.
Grimmett told the Swindon Advertiser: "What's happened has been very humbling, especially when I consider the number of people who have helped me. I now look on life a bit differently. What's happened has taught me not to be impatient and to make the most out of life."
Grimmett reformed GRIM REAPER in 2006 as STEVE GRIMMETT'S GRIM REAPER following an amicable decision between the singer and original GRIM REAPER guitarist Nick Bowcott, who both agreed that using the original name minus the other members of the classic lineup wouldn't be a proper reunion.

Video: STEVEN ADLER's ADLER'S APPETITE Performs At Iowa State FairFan-filmed video footage of ADLER'S APPETITE's August 14 performance at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines, Iowa can be seen below (courtesy of YouTube user "Scott WDSM").
ADLER'S APPETITE's current lineup includes former GUNS N' ROSES drummer Steven Adler alongside Ariel Kamin, the singer of Argentinian GN'R tribute band SON OF A GUN, plus guitarists Michael Thomas and Alistair James, and bassist Tanya O Callaghan.
Kamin replaced Constantine Maroulis of "American Idol" and "Rock Of Ages" fame, who was the vocalist for ADLER'S APPETITE for a dozen or so dates in May 2018, including an Australian tour.
Steven previously played with Ariel when the drummer joined SON OF GUN on stage in November 2016 in Buenos Aires, Argentina to perform several GN'R classics, including "You Could Be Mine" and "Welcome To The Jungle".
Although he wasn't included in the lineup that launched the "Not In This Lifetime" trek in 2016, Adler rejoined GUNS N' ROSES at several shows on the tour, including three stops on the U.S. leg and one gig in Buenos Aires, Argentina, playing drums on "Out Ta Get Me" and "My Michelle".
In February 2017, Adler revealed to podcaster Mitch Lafon that he was originally supposed to appear at more than just a handful of shows on the GUNS N' ROSES reunion trek. He claimed that he expected to play all the "Appetite For Destruction" material during the entire tour, only to be told he was out after he hurt his back during rehearsals.
Speculation was rampant that Adler would participate in at least a portion of the reunion tour ever since GUNS made it official in January 2016. The regular GUNS drummer for several years has been Frank Ferrer, who is also part of the current lineup.
