The announcement was made at the museum's annual press conference at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, along with news on the Petersen's upcoming "Hypercars" exhibit, and the institution's acquisition of 30 vehicles new to the facility's collection. Additionally, Hetfield was named a Founding Member of the museum, an honor reserved for its most generous donors.

Classic BLACK SABBATH Songs To Be Featured In Fifth Season Of 'Peaky Blinders'According to Mirror, BLACK SABBATH's classic songs "The Wizard" and "War Pigs" will be featured on the fifth season of "Peaky Blinders", the Netflix hit series about one of the most powerful U.K. gangs post-World War I.
Director Anthony Byrne states: "We are using their tracks 'The Wizard' and 'War Pigs'. We built a library of music that we auditioned against different scenes. BLACK SABBATH just felt like a no-brainer. I was going: 'Why've they not been used before?'"

Former METALLICA Bassist JASON NEWSTED Is Selling Walnut Creek House For $2.89 MillionAccording to Realtor.com, former METALLICA bassist Jason Newsted is selling his house in Walnut Creek, California. The musician has listed his modern farmhouse in the San Francisco Bay Area for $2.89 million.
The five-bedroom, five-bathroom home was built in 1986, and covers 6,720 square feet on a 1.37-acre lot.
Property details, courtesy of Newsted's representative, Douglas Buenz of Compass: "Fabulous modern farmhouse in a premium location with views. Gorgeous custom updates including hardwood floors, designer fixtures, & custom moldings. The new gourmet kitchen features stunning Moroccan tile & high-end Elise appliances. This home features a formal living room, elegant dining room, spacious family room, & 1 bedroom suite downstairs. The master suite features a retreat with balcony, fireplace, & an updated bathroom featuring soaking tub, separate shower, dual sinks, & large walk-in closet. Two large secondary bedrooms on the second level with updated bath plus a huge third story bonus room. Mud room with laundry & half bath. The picturesque yard is an entertainer's dream with patio, wrap-around porch, sprawling lawn area, and dog run. Studio above the detached 3 car garage & full basement (not included in sq ft). This amazing location has views of Mt. Diablo & is minutes from freeways, BART, & downtown. Plus award winning Walnut Creek schools."
A video tour of the house is available below.
Newsted is still trying to unload his Sula, Montana ranch, which he put up for sale in 2017 at $4.95 million. That price came down by $450,000 in July to $4.5 million.
Five years ago, the now-56-year-old Newsted canceled an appearance at Australia's Soundwave festival with his band NEWSTED, citing "private and personal circumstances." The cancelation followed more than a year of intense touring and promotional activity surrounding the release of NEWSTED's "Metal" EP and follow-up album, "Heavy Metal Music", both of which were positively received by the critics and fans alike.
After staying mostly out of the public eye for a couple of years, Newsted rejoined Canadian metal innovators VOIVOD on stage during June 2016 concert at Slim's in San Francisco, California. He has since formed a couple of new acoustic projects, one of which completed a short West Coast tour.
Jason left METALLICA back in 2001 but was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, along with guitarist/vocalist James Hetfield, drummer Lars Ulrich, guitarist Kirk Hammett, and the man who replaced him, bassist Robert Trujillo, in 2009. 3

ZONAL To Release Wrecked Album In October; Lyric Video For "System Error" Featuring MOOR MOTHER StreamingZonal, the brainchild of Justin Broadrick (Godflesh/Jesu/JK Flesh) and Kevin Martin (The Bug/King Midas Sound) present their monumental Relapse Records debut, Wrecked. Zonal continues where their previous collaboration Techno Animal left off, and combines a brutal ongoing obsession with beats, bass, dub, drone, noise and riff.
Listen to the first single “System Error” featuring Moor Mother via the lyric video below, and via all streaming services here.
Wrecked is due out October 25th on CD/LP/Digital. Physical packages are available for pre-order via Relapse.com here. Digital Downloads / Streaming Services are available here.
Under their new guise, the enigmatic duo push the parameters and atmospheres that have earned them critical acclaim further and deeper; Zonal's sound has become ever more corrupted, corroded, slower and lower; with the theme of exploring inner/outer space acts as the gelling agent for this shockingly monolithic sound. Anyone who witnessed their sonic destruction and lyrical detonation c/o Moor Mother at both Roadburn and Unsound festivals will not be disappointed by the slo-mo meltdown.

SIGNS OF THE SWARM Debut Lyric Video For "Tempting Death" Feat. CHELSEA GRIN's Tom Barber; Vital Deprivation Album Details RevealedPittsburgh, PA-based slamming deathcore titans, Signs Of The Swarm, have released a lyric video for their new song, "Tempting Death". The track, featuring guest vocals from Tom Barber of Chelsea Grin, is off of their massively heavy forthcoming new album, Vital Deprivation, which will see an October 11 release via Unique Leader. Watch the clip below.
Vital Deprivation is the follow up to the group's unrelenting label debut, The Disfigurement of Existence - a release that saw the group experience a meteoric rise in the and proved Signs Of The Swarm to be one of the most promising young bands in the genre. The new album finds the band upping the vicious, blistering technicality and songwriting prowess while showcases new vocalist David Simonich's other-worldly roar.
The 10-track album was recorded, mixed, and mastered by Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland (August Burns Red, Rivers of Nihil, The Last Ten Seconds of Life) at Think Loud Studios in York, PA.
Signs Of The Swarm said of the release, "We are pleased to present our third album via Unique Leader Records, Vital Deprivation. We began writing for the album shortly after TDOE was released. From the beginning we had a sound in mind that was more aggressive and fast paced, but equally as brutal as our previous releases. What makes this album different from our past is that we wrote with pleasing ourselves in mind first and foremost. We’ve covered a lot of ground in just under 40 minutes. Some of the album may be what you expect to hear from us, and hopefully some may not. David Simonich is a powerhouse of a vocalist bringing a whole new range of motion to the band’s spectrum. His lyrical content and cadence bring a more emotional and poetic energy to Signs while retaining the aggression he’s become known for. We’d like to thank Carson Slovak & Grant McFarland for helping us to shape this album into a coherent message from beginning to end. Thank you to our fans who have supported us relentlessly, this is the first of many to come. Please enjoy Vital Deprivation."

THE GREAT OLD ONES Premier "Nyarlathotep" Lyric VideoFrench Lovecraftian black metal masters, The Great Old Ones, have released a lyric video for the song "Nyarlathotep", which is taken from their upcoming record, Cosmicism, out on October 25 via Season Of Mist.
The band comments: "We are proud to present you 'Nyarlathotep,' a song based on the Lovecraft's text with the same name. What better than a dark and heavy track to bring us in front of the 'messenger, heart, and soul' of the Outer Gods, to sink into madness and the knowledge of occult secrets. Enjoy the encounter, be afraid for your sanity. He is the scourge, he is the wounds, he is the purge, who brings the final dooms."
Watch the video below, and pre-order the new album here.
The artwork for Cosmicism was created by Jeff Grimal.

THE FLOWER KINGS Set November Release For New Double Album, Waiting For Miracles; Details RevealedProgressive rock legends, The Flower Kings, have announced the release of their brand new studio double-album, Waiting For Miracles, on November 8. The album is comprised of 15 new tracks, recorded over the summer at RMV studio in Stockholm, Sweden - a vintage studio space owned by ABBA star Benny Andersson.
Band leader Roine Stolt comments: “We have gone back to the joyful and playful style that made the band famous in the late 90’s. So here ‘more’ is always ‘more’! At time the lyrics have a bit of a serious concern about the state of our world, but overall the theme is full of joy and colour.”
The band, currently comprised of Roine Stolt, Jonas Reingold, Hasse Fröberg, Zach Kamins & Mirko DeMaio (the most recent live lineup), have crafted an adventurous collection of pure prog-rock. Expect boat-loads of vintage keyboards, odd time signatures and long guitar solos - with elements of pop, symphonic and cinematic music.
The album will be released as a 2CD, gatefold 2LP + 2CD, and as digital album, featuring beautiful artwork by American artist Kevin Sloan.
Disc 1:
"House Of Cards"
"Black Flag"
"Miracles For America"
"Vertigo"
"The Bridge"
"Ascending To The Stars"
"Wicked Old Symphony"
"The Rebel Circus"
"Sleep With The Enemy"
"The Crowning Of Greed"
Disc 2:
"House Of Cards Reprise"
"Spirals"
"Steampunk"
"We Were Always Here"
"Busking At Brobank"
The Flower Kings recently announced they would be heading out on tour this December with label-mates Kayak. Roine Stolt: "We're happy to go on tour in Europe again in December - We will present The Flower Kings music from the early days - concert favourites - plus some brand new music - that is along the lines of the early music of the band - symphonic rock. We're happy to bring our friends in Kayak along for this proggy double bill - it will be a monumental meltdown of melodic prog - not to be missed."
The two bands will perform 12 dates across six countries, and you can find the full list of shows below, tickets on sale now:
December
1 - Bahnhof St. Pauli - Hamburg, Germany
2 - Musikzentrum - Hannover, Germany
3 - OK Andaluzia - Piekary Slaskie, Poland
4 - Klub U Bazyla - Poznan, Poland
6 - Burgerweeshuis - Deventer, Netherlands
7 - De Boerderij - Zoetermeer, Netherlands
8- Scala - London, UK
9 - Piano - Dortmund, Germany
10 - Columbia Theater - Berlin, Germany
11 - Amager Bio - Copenhagen, Denmark
12 - Brewhouse - Gothenburg, Sweden
14 - Kraken - Stockholm, Sweden
The Flower Kings started as an outlet for guitarist/singer/composer Roine Stolt in 1994 - a time when prog-rock wasn’t mere history, nor a dirty word. The band quickly gained momentum and was one of a handful of bands helping to revive the progressive rock scene worldwide. Roine has since collaborated with a host of legendary musicians across various projects, including his acclaimed 2015 album with YES legend Jon Anderson, progressive-rock supergroup Transatlantic alongside Neal Morse, Mike Portnoy and Pete Trewavas, and a year as bass player with Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett. The Flower Kings however, has always felt like home for Roine and the other band veterans Jonas Reingold and Hasse Fröberg.

Justice Department Sides With LED ZEPPELIN In 'Stairway To Heaven' Copyright CaseAccording to NBC News, the Justice Department filed a friend of court brief late Thursday supporting LED ZEPPELIN in the "Stairway To Heaven" copyright lawsuit.
Last September, a federal appeals court decided unanimously to overturn a jury's decision that LED ZEPPELIN's 1971 classic was not a rip-off of SPIRIT's song.
Michael Skidmore, the trustee of "Taurus" songwriter Randy "California" Wolfe's estate, had brought the claims more than four decades after "Stairway To Heaven" appeared on LED ZEPPELIN's untitled album, better known as "Led Zeppelin IV".
In its brief filed Thursday, the Justice Department said the trial judge got it right when he ruled that the only work subject to copyright protection was the sheet music, because the song was written before Congress changed the law in 1972, which gave protection to sound recordings.
In June 2016, a Los Angeles jury deliberated for about five hours before deciding unanimously in favor of LED ZEPPELIN.
The verdict in the LED ZEPPELIN case came down within 15 minutes of the jury's request to re-listen to both SPIRIT's "Taurus" and "Stairway To Heaven". They wanted to hear a section of each song twice, alternating from one to the other. They decided that what they heard wasn't substantially similar enough to call it copyright infringement.
Skidmore appealed, and in September, a three-judge panel of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals decided a new trial was needed because the judge who presided over a 2016 trial had given erroneous and prejudicial instructions to the jury.
The court said the judge erred by telling the jury that common musical elements, such as "descending chromatic scales, arpeggios or short sequences of three notes," were not protected by copyright. The court also said the jury should have been permitted to hear the album recording of "Taurus".
Plaintiff's attorney Francis Malofiy later claimed he lost his case on a technicality, insisting that it was unfair the jury was unable to listen to the sound recording of "Taurus" and instead was limited to hearing an expert performance of the registered sheet music.
Malofiy received over a hundred sustained objections and "multiple admonishments" during the ZEPPELIN trial, with the band's publishing company Warner/Chappell Music filing documents asking the judge to order the plaintiffs to pay over $613,000 in costs for defending against the lawsuit. 2

ALEX SKOLNICK Has 'No Problem' With TESTAMENT's Exclusion From 'Big Four' Of 1980s Thrash MetalIn a brand new interview with the "Basel Meets" podcast, TESTAMENT's Alex Skolnick was asked why his band wasn't included in the so-called "Big Four" of 1980s thrash metal (METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX) — the dominant thrash metal groups that helped bring that genre into the mainstream. "Interestingly, I have no problem with it, because I look at it as a seniority thing," the guitarist replied (see video below). "I joined TESTAMENT in very late '85; I think my first gig was early '86. So, 1986 — what happened [that year]? METALLICA releases 'Master Of Puppets'. They were already on their third record. They were on their way to becoming one of the biggest bands in the world, which was clear… I mean, it wasn't clear they would be that level, but we knew they were gonna at least be as big as IRON MAIDEN and SCORPIONS at that time. So they were already off and running. SLAYER released 'Reign In Blood' that year, after having several albums out. ANTHRAX had several records out. I think at that point, MEGADETH was on their second record. So all those bands, they were past their first record. They were all off and running. At the time, the classic TESTAMENT lineup was just forming. So, I'm fine with that. They were there first, and they were doing big things. And we came along a little later. But I have no problem with those groups being classified together."
Alex's comments echo those of TESTAMENT singer Chuck Billy, who told the "Music Mania" podcast last year that his band came along too late to be included in the "Big Four."
"When you say 'Big Four,' you think of the '80s when that was what was referred to as the 'Big Four,' which is correct — those four bands [METALLICA, MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX] were the biggest four bands of our era; at that time, all [of them were] at the platinum level, when there was much more acceptability to this music," he said. "Around '91 [or] '92, the grunge scene came in, and all the bands following us — EXODUS and OVERKILL and all those kind of bands — lost that momentum because the industry started changing its format. So when they say [METALLICA, MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX are the] 'Big Four,' I say that's correct. We were the next generation of the 'Four' [laughs], but we were just caught in the wrong time… wrong place, wrong time."
Several years earlier, Billy told Metal Insider that METALLICA, MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX are the only bands that deserved to be lumped together as part of the "Big Four."
"I think that when it comes down to the 'Big Four,' as far as I can see it, back when metal was at its height in the late '80s/ early 90s, all of those 'Big Four' bands had a ton of great success and were selling millions of records," he said. "I think around that same time, we were growing apart as a band and the music market had changed. So I think we were kind of, I guess, as they say, 'on deck in the batting circle' waiting for our success selling millions of records at that time.
"So when people say the Big Four, Five or Six, I don't see it that way," he continued. "The 'Big Four,' those four bands had great success selling millions of records. But the rest of us — EXODUS, DEATH ANGEL [and] TESTAMENT — we didn't sell out those festivals or that amount of records. So I don't see us being compared to that. I'd say if metal was still going as strong as it was, yeah, we all stood a chance to sell a lot of records. That's just my take on it. When people talk about that, to me, those four bands are justifiable, and that's it. I don't see any other bands that were the 'Big' whatever."
Back in 2017, OVERKILL vocalist Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth said that "when it comes to being selected and not selected" for inclusion in the "Big Four", "that's a simple accounting issue. When you talk numbers, numbers make the world go around, numbers put food on your table, and numbers put the 'Big Four' in arenas. And they sell enough records to do that… He who sells the most gets the pole positions."
MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine said in a 2013 interview that EXODUS "probably" should have been included if the "Big Four" were expanded and considered the "Big Five" "because there was nobody else at the time that had that kind of pull or that kind of importance in the metal community. Granted, it was with [late EXODUS singer Paul] Baloff, and Baloff had a voice that you had to have an acquired taste for, but you know, I liked him."
METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett concurred, telling U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine in a 2014 interview that "EXODUS in the '80s had some bona fide problems, but I think their first album [1985's 'Bonded By Blood'] is just as good as [METALLICA's debut] 'Kill 'Em All'. We were just playing the music we wanted to hear because no one else was playing it and it wasn't being played on the radio. It was only a small group of people who knew about it and it was almost elitist in that 'No posers allowed!' thing." 39

PHILP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS Bandmates Talk Most Difficult PANTERA Songs To Perform LiveDuring a conversation with Ultimate Guitar's David Slavković, Philip H. Anselmo & The Illegals bassist Derek Engemann and guitarist Mike DeLeon talked about performing Pantera songs live in concert, while also discussing their own gear, modeling amps, and more. Following is an excerpt from the interview.
UG: Since you're doing Pantera songs on this tour, can you single out one song that was the most difficult for you to learn and why?
Derek: "We have been working on one song that's a bit tricky that we haven't played yet. But '5 Minutes Alone' has got a lot of... it's a little trickier to sync up. But as far as the bass goes, it hasn't been extremely challenging. I just try to nail it, do it like Rex (Brown) did it. Which... you have to add attitude to it. Which is kind of weird but you just can't play the notes, you have to have that attitude along with it. So that would be the most difficult part for me on bass."
Mike: "For me on guitar, I would say... I mean, every one of them that we play, we all took our time to dissect and go over the notes. We'd be, not arguing, but discussing in the jam room 'No that's a three, no that's a four...' But I would say, overall, the hardest one for me as a band we learned 'Primal Concrete Sledge,' and we never play it. But we've played it once or twice live. But I think if we got it down a little bit more, I think that one would be the one to bring back out because it's a ripping tune. It's a tough one to play two guitars because Dime was one and he nailed it. But when you got two guitars trying to nail that... *sings the chugging riff* It's tough. So that one's probably been the toughest one as a band to learn. Even without the guitar solos, 'Primal Concrete Sledge.'"

On July 20th, Philip Anselmo & The Illegals performed at the Dynamo Metalfest in Eindhoven, Netherlands. During their set, they were joined by Soulfly's Max Cavalera for Pantera's classic "Walk". Check out the video below.
The day before, Anselmo performed at Gefle Metal 2019 in Gävle, Sweden. Satyricon frontman Sigurd "Satyr" Wongraven joined the band on stage for Pantera's "I'm Broken".

HAMMERFALL's OSCAR DRONJAK Says ACCEPT's WOLF HOFFMANN Is His 'Guitar Hero'In a recent interview with France's Duke TV, HAMMERFALL's Oscar Dronjak singled out one guitarist as a major influence on his playing and songwriting style. He said (see video below): "One guy who, without me listening to him, I would not sound and play the guitar the way I do is Wolf Hoffmann from ACCEPT. He's my guitar hero, for sure. And not just the way he plays his guitar, but the way he writes the music, the songs, the riffs and everything. And the way he plays the lead guitar on top of the solos. Maybe sometimes it's a riff that sort of morphs into a solo. It's just fantastic guitar playing. So I really love his way of playing the instrument."
HAMMERFALL's latest album, "Dominion", was released on August 16 via Napalm Records. For the disc, HAMMERFALL re-teamed with James Michael to do vocals at Red Level Three studios, and Fredrik Nordström of Studio Fredman at Castle Black Studios for the instruments on the 12-song collection.
Dronjak told Loud TV about "Dominion": "It's one of those things where you have time finally to perfect everything. We didn't really feel that for [2016's] 'Built To Last'. It was stressed, the songwriting part of it. This time, we really felt ready when we started recording, which I don't think has ever happened. All the songs were where they should be. We had time to go back and let them mature. That made it easier to record. We are in a place right now as a band where we feel it's fun. It's happy, fun, because everything sounds good when we play live."
He continued: "I don't think HAMMERFALL has ever sounded better live than we do right now. That feeling, that rush translated into the recording. I think that's what you can hear on it. The songs sound the way they do, they sound, I think they sound perfected, in a way that I don't think the other albums may have done. It's an energy that we didn't have before. We always try to recreate the energy, but it's difficult to actually do it." 10

DUFF MCKAGAN On IZZY STRADLIN's Non-Involvement In GUNS N' ROSES Reunion: 'Maybe Some Other Time'GUNS N' ROSES bassist Duff McKagan says that he and Slash worked "hard" on trying to get Izzy Stradlin involved with the band's reunion tour.
While GUNS N' ROSES' "Not In This Lifetime" trek features the "classic era" lineup of McKagan, Slash and singer Axl Rose — with the occasional guest appearance by drummer Steven Adler — Stradlin has not taken part in any shows on the tour, with unconfirmed reports claiming that he turned down a five-figure fee to play with GUNS N' ROSES at the April 2016 reunion shows.
Now, in a new interview in the "Rolling Stone Music Now" podcast, McKagan has offered more information on the circumstances that led to Izzy's absence from the trek.
According to Duff, Izzy's decision to sit out the tour "wasn't from us not trying, for sure. I don't know if have a take beyond that," he said. "I know what we tried to do and how hard we worked at that.
"Touring in a big rock band is not for everybody," he continued. "That's my take on that. It's a thing — this is a thing."
Asked about Stradlin's claim that he stepped away from the reunion because the band didn't want to "split the loot equally," McKagan said: "I don't even know. At the end of the day, we just couldn't figure it out."
Duff went on to address Izzy's history of "coming and going" from various projects, including a brief stint with Duff and Slash's post GN'R band VELVET REVOLVER.
"There's a lot of coming and going, so this was one more chapter of that coming and going," Duff said in reference to Izzy pulling out of "Not In This Lifetime".
"I don't wanna say anything that's untoward, because I love the guy," the bassist continued. "Slash and I are sober guys, and we went at it with a solution-based [attitude], like, 'Let's make this work.' But it just didn't. And who knows? Maybe some other time."
Asked whether he thinks the GUNS N' ROSES reunion is finite, Duff said: "I don't have that feeling at all, [that] it's a finite thing.
"Because we've done no press yet, nobody knows," he continued. "And I kind of dig it, to be honest with you. I'm not trying to keep you in the dark. I don't dig the feeling of keeping you in the dark, but it's kind of nice. It's a thing where nobody needs to know our business. I think that's… We got into trouble a long time ago, where people knew all of our business… So we talk about things to each other now — something that maybe we never did before."
Last year, Izzy blamed his non-involvement with the GUNS N' ROSES reunion tour on the fact that he and the other guys in the band were unable "to reach a happy middle ground through the negotiation process."
Rose told Brazil's Globo TV in a 2016 interview that wasn't optimistic about Stradlin rejoining his former bandmates. "I don't really know what to say about Izzy," Axl said. "It's like you could have a conversation and think it's one way and the next day it's another way. And I'm not trying to take any shots at Izzy. It's just his thing is kind of his thing, whatever that is."
Stradlin, whose real name is Jeffrey Isbell, was born and grew up in Lafayette, Indiana, where he was high school friends and bandmates with singer William Bailey — later known as Axl Rose.
His first and only post-GUNS band, IZZY STRADLIN & THE JU JU HOUNDS, broke up in 1993 after recording one LP. He has since released 10 more solo albums between 1998 and 2010.

MONOLORD Share “The Last Leaf” VideoSweden doom trio Monolord, who recently announced their anticipated Relapse Records’ debut, No Comfort (September 20th, Relapse Records), have shared a second track from the forthcoming album, debuting the video for “The Last Leaf”.
“We're thrilled to work with the brilliantly talented Björn Rallare on this video,” said the band, collectively. “He's aced the difficult challenge of capturing the post-apocalyptic and apathetic atmosphere of the song. Hope you like it as much as we do.”
No Comfort pre-orders are available now, with several limited-edition vinyl variants, including a Relapse.com exclusive in partnership with Orange Amps. The Orange Amps/Relapse offering is limited to 100 copies and features the actual material used to wrap Orange Amps, with the album itself being pressed on neon orange vinyl. The set also includes an exclusive two-sided Orange Amps inspired t-shirt and guitar pick set. To view this set as well as the CD/2xLP/CS and digital pre-orders that are available, head here.
The album was recorded at Let Them Swing Studio outside of their hometown of Gothenburg, Sweden. This release marks the first time the trio have allowed an outside voice to be part of the process, working with Kim Gravander on the recording. Drummer Esben Willems handled mixing. Painter Alexander Fjelnseth created the album cover.
No Comfort tracklisting:
"The Bastard Son"
"The Last Leaf"
"Larvae"
