How AEROSMITH's Drum Tech Ended Up Filling In For JOEY KRAMER During 'Deuces Are Wild' Residency

How AEROSMITH's Drum Tech Ended Up Filling In For JOEY KRAMER During 'Deuces Are Wild' Residency

AEROSMITH's drum tech John Douglas spoke to Rock Titan about how he landed the gig this past summer as Joey Kramer's temporary replacement. He said (see video below): "I'm a working drum tech, so I am teching for AEROSMITH, who, for most of this year, has been doing a [Las] Vegas residency at the Park MGM. And Joey Kramer, the drummer from AEROSMITH, who everybody knows, got injured, and so I got the call to jump in and play drums at the 11th hour. So I played a few shows with AEROSMITH, which is unexpected and exciting."

Asked if there was any reservation or reluctance on his part to take on the job when he was first approached about it, Douglas said: "Actually, I'm not even sure they even asked me — I think they told me. It's kind of a blur. It was a show day, and I was in the building. Obviously, the band doesn't do soundcheck typically, so the crew does — we do a crew soundcheck, a crew jam. So we had just started that when I got the phone call from Steven [Tyler, vocals], saying that Joey couldn't play. Yeah, I don't remember actually being asked. And I would have said 'yes.' Maybe I was [asked] — I don't know. I've done this before with other bands a couple of times, but it had been a while. And it's always, obviously, unexpected. So, it was just a matter of, 'Okay. Yeah.'"

Kramer reportedly twisted his ankle during rehearsal, forcing him to sit out AEROSMITH's "Deuces Are Wild" tour dates.

This is not the first time AEROSMITH performed without Kramer. Last April, AEROSMITH played two shows in Las Vegas, Nevada without Joey after the drummer had a "minor accident" that resulted in a shoulder injury.

Back in August 2014, AEROSMITH canceled a California concert because Kramer was dealing with "heart complications" that required immediate surgery. The musician later revealed that he had an angioplasty, explaining that it was "just strictly a hereditary thing. There's a family history, and I was the victim. But no more."

Kramer missed a week's worth of AEROSMITH shows after his 2014 surgery — his son Jesse filled in on drums — before getting back to work.

"It wasn't my time," Kramer said at the time. "It wasn't time for my ticket to be punched. And so I got fixed, and I'm back 150 percent, and everything is as good as it can possibly be."

AEROSMITH is scheduled to play nine more shows in Las Vegas before the end of the year —seven in November, and two in December.

In 2017, AEROSMITH announced a run of dates called "Aero-Vederci Baby!", but stopped short of calling it a final tour.

AEROSMITH hasn't released a new studio album since 2012's "Music From Another Dimension!"

Watch ACE FREHLEY And SEBASTIAN BACH Perform KISS Classics At Miami's 'Kruise Fest'

Watch ACE FREHLEY And SEBASTIAN BACH Perform KISS Classics At Miami's 'Kruise Fest'

Original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley joined Sebastian Bach on stage on October 28 at Kruise Fest 2019 at Hilton Blue Lagoon in Miami, Florida to perform a couple of KISS classics, "Parasite" and "Deuce", as well as the Frehley track "Snow Blind". Fan-filmed video footage of the performance can be seen below.

Back in 2014, Bach spoke about Frehley while commenting on KISS's induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame and the announcement that the original four members of KISS would not perform at the ceremony.

"As a fan, I understand why people would want to see that," Bach told Ultimate Classic Rock. "But as a [now-51]-year old man that has worked with Gene Simmons and Ace Frehley, I understand why Gene Simmons doesn't work with Ace Frehley."

Bach added cryptically: "Ace has sides to him that maybe the fans don't see. That's all I can say." Sebastian concluded by saying, "I understand why Gene doesn't play with [Ace]."

Bach and Frehley worked together on the track "Know Where You Go" for drummer Anton Fig's solo album "Figments", which came out in 2002. At the time, Bach said that recording with Ace and Anton was "a dream come true and an honor."

SLAYER's TOM ARAYA And KERRY KING Discuss 'The Repentless Killogy' (Video)

SLAYER's TOM ARAYA And KERRY KING Discuss 'The Repentless Killogy' (Video)

In a new video released today, SLAYER's own Tom Araya and Kerry King share the story behind the previously unseen short film and boundary-pushing music video trilogy that is set to feature alongside live concert footage from the revered 2017 Los Angeles Forum concert, during the one-night theatrical release of "Slayer: The Repentless Killogy", coming to cinemas worldwide on November 6, from Trafalgar Releasing.

Featured in this exclusive new interview footage, Araya and King break down the making of the final film, from the original concept for the "Repentless" music video with Director BJ McDonnell, to collaborating with Nuclear Blast Records and Prime Zero Productions to produce McDonnell's larger vision for a unique, three-part narrative trilogy of relentlessly blood-soaked, revenge-driven music videos and the short film they inspired.

"When we first did it, I thought we were just doing [the] 'Repentless' [music video]; I didn't know we had a plan for three videos," says Kerry speaking to the overall concept. "This trilogy is unique and I think it's unique to SLAYER, which makes it even cooler.”

The interview also explores SLAYER's relationship with Los Angeles and how meaningful it was to finally play the "Fabulous" Los Angeles Forum after years of being banned from playing live shows anywhere in Los Angeles County. Said Araya: "I grew up in L.A… I watched the Lakers, Jerry West, Wilt Chamberlain, a f*cking awesome team, that's what I watched growing up and they were at the Fabulous Forum."

The film will be in theaters for one-night-only from Trafalgar Releasing, Nuclear Blast Records and Prime Zero Productions on November 6, and fans can now find local theaters and purchase tickets at Slayer.Film.

The film is comprised of two parts. Part one is a short narrative film written and directed by BJ McDonnell, that blends the music of SLAYER with an uncompromising and unmissable, a trilogy of music videos assembled as one chronological storyline. Part two of "The Repentless Killogy" features SLAYER's entire live set performed at the Los Angeles Forum on August 5, 2017, and was directed by Wayne Isham who has directed videos for artists including METALLICA, FOO FIGHTERS, Michael Jackson and more.

Following the global theatrical premiere, on November 8, the film will be available digitally and on Blu-ray, and the soundtrack from that concert will be released as both a two-disc vinyl and two CD packages.

TRIVIUM Collaborates With Legendary Portuguese Artist TOY

TRIVIUM Collaborates With Legendary Portuguese Artist TOY

TRIVIUM has teamed with the legendary Portuguese artist Toy (real name: António Manuel Neves Ferrão) to release a reimagined version of his song "Coração Não Tem Idade (Vou Beijar)". Available now on all streaming platforms, the recording finds TRIVIUM and Toy joining forces to deliver a heavy a take on the classic track sung entirely in Portuguese.

TRIVIUM and Toy first connected after TRIVIUM vocalist/guitarist Matt Heafy shared a cover of "Coração Não Tem Idade (Vou Beijar)" on his Twitch channel back in 2018. A year later, Toy joined TRIVIUM on stage in Portugal at VOA festival for a performance of TRIVIUM's "Until The World Goes Cold". A bond was cemented, and discussions of a collaboration began to build.

"The collaboration between Toy and TRIVIUM has been nothing but unexpected and incredible — every step of the way," says Heafy. "From its beginning, starting from a Twitch raid into my channel; into me doing a cover that would soon find itself on Portuguese national radio and national news; into a live duo that created madness not unlike a riot at a festival; then finally into a true, full band cover with a cameo by Toy himself."

Heafy continues: "This cover, just like the original, makes you feel good. Whether you speak Portuguese or not, you'll find yourself moving and singing along by the second chorus. We are proud to call Toy a friend, and we can't wait to do this more and live together. We can't wait to see what else we can create as a unit together."

TRIVIUM has spent most of the last two years touring in support of its latest album, "The Sin And The Sentence", which was released in October 2017 via Roadrunner. Recorded with producer Josh Wilbur (LAMB OF GOD, GOJIRA) at Santa Ana, California's Hybrid Studios, the LP features the band's first recordings with drummer Alex Bent, who joined TRIVIUM in 2016.

Report: IRON MAIDEN To Perform In Israel For First Time In 25 Years

Report: IRON MAIDEN To Perform In Israel For First Time In 25 Years

According to Israel Hayom, British heavy metal legends IRON MAIDEN are in talks to perform in Israel next year. The band is said to be planning a concert at Tel Aviv's Bloomfield Stadium in late May.

If the show does happen, it will mark IRON MAIDEN's first appearance in in the Jewish state in 25 years. MAIDEN previously played three shows in Israel in September 1995 during "The X Factor" tour, featuring Blaze Bayley on vocals instead of Bruce Dickinson.

Last December, Dickinson appeared in Tel Aviv as part of his spoken-word tour, presenting his autobiography, "What Does This Button Do?" , sharing stories from his childhood, unruly teenage years and his career as a musician of one of the most successful rock bands in history.

IRON MAIDEN recently completed the North American leg of its "Legacy Of The Beast" tour. The concept for the trek was inspired by MAIDEN's mobile game and comic book of the same name. The stage set design featured a number of different but interlocking "worlds" with a setlist covering a large selection of 1980s material with a handful of surprises from later albums to add diversity.

MAIDEN's 2019 North, South and Central America trek comprised 44 shows in six countries, which, combined with the band's 2018 European dates, means that the group has taken the "Legacy Of The Beast" show to over one and three quarter of a million fans around the globe.

MIKE PATTON And JEAN-CLAUDE VANNIER Debut 'A Schoolgirl's Day' Video

MIKE PATTON And JEAN-CLAUDE VANNIER Debut 'A Schoolgirl's Day' Video

FAITH NO MORE singer Mike Patton and Jean-Claude Vannier, who recently issued the "suave and slinky" (Consequence Of Sound) album "Corpse Flower" (Ipecac Recordings), have released the official music video for "A Schoolgirl's Day". The clip, which was created by Nino Del Padre, features footage from the 1962 low-budget classic film "Carnival Of Souls". Padre said of the pairing: "It's almost as if the film was created for this song."

"Corpse Flower" arrived in September, the result of a chance encounter between Patton and the French producer, who met at a Serge Gainsbourg retrospective at the Hollywood Bowl. Vannier, who is perhaps best known to North American audiences for his work with Gainsbourg, is one of the most influential artists and producers in modern French music.

A variety of musicians, both in Los Angeles and Paris, took part in the recording of "Corpse Flower", with the Los Angeles team including Smokey Hormel (BECK, JOHNNY CASH), Justin Meldal-Johnsen (BECK, AIR, NINE INCH NAILS) and James Gadson (BECK, JAMIE LIDELL). The Parisian players are Denys Lable, Bernard Paganotti (MAGMA), Daniel Ciampolini, Didier Malherbe, Léonard Le Cloarec and the Bécon Palace String Ensemble. The lyrics for "Ballad C.3.3." are drawn from Oscar Wilde's "The Ballad Of Reading Gaol" poem, which was initially published using the name C.3.3.

JUDAS PRIEST's ROB HALFORD: 'It Would Be Wonderful' To Be Inducted Into ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME

JUDAS PRIEST's ROB HALFORD: 'It Would Be Wonderful' To Be Inducted Into ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME

JUDAS PRIEST singer Rob Halford says that it would be "wonderful" for his band to be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

Having been eligible for induction since 1999, JUDAS PRIEST was on the ballot for last year's class of the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, but ultimately didn't clinch the nomination.

Earlier in the month, it was announced that JUDAS PRIEST is among the nominees for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame's class of 2020. The top vote-getters will be announced in January and inducted May 2, 2020 at a ceremony at Cleveland's Public Hall.

Speaking to Ultimate Classic Rock, Halford said about the prospect of PRIEST finally getting the nod: "It would be wonderful [to be inducted]. I think it's one of the greatest accolades you can be given, because you're in the company of musical giants.

"When we were first nominated, I kind of went crazy and I was texting my friends and [sending] e-mails and going, 'You've got to vote! You've got to vote!" he recalled. "And then we didn't get in! I was disappointed. But it is what it is. This time, I haven't really been checking the voting that much, but apparently, we're in the Top 5 right now, for the fan votes. Which speaks volumes about our wonderful fans around the world that are voting every day."

To be eligible for this year's ballot, each nominee's first single or album had to be released in 1994 or earlier.

A voter pool of more than 1,000 artists, historians, journalists and members of the music industry will select the new class. Fans will also have a chance to take part in the process by voting at RockHall.com or an interactive kiosk at the museum in Cleveland.

Original JUDAS PRIEST guitarist K.K. Downing recently said that he is hopeful that he will reunite with his former bandmates for a one-off performance at a Rock Hall induction ceremony.

Halford, Downing, Les Binks, Dave Holland, Ian Hill, Glenn Tipton and Scott Travis are on the ballot for JUDAS PRIEST.

Halford told Billboard in 2017 that he was not opposed to the idea of reuniting with Downing at the Rock Hall induction ceremony if they were to ever receive the honor. "Everything's on the table for anyone that's been associated with PRIEST in and out of the band," the singer said.

Ex-JUDAS PRIEST Guitarist K.K. DOWNING Looks Back On Controversial 'Turbo' LP: 'It Wasn't The Big-Selling Album That We Hoped For'

Ex-JUDAS PRIEST Guitarist K.K. DOWNING Looks Back On Controversial 'Turbo' LP: 'It Wasn't The Big-Selling Album That We Hoped For'

Former JUDAS PRIEST guitarist K.K. Downing spoke about the band's controversial album "Turbo" during an interview for Greg Prato's upcoming book "Take It Off - Kiss Truly Unmasked".

Released in 1986, the synth-heavy "Turbo" is PRIEST's most commercial-sounding album to date, with the band deciding to experiment with some new sounds, particularly with the use of guitar synthesizers, which did not sit well with every fan.

"Turbo" was released after a three-year period during which acts like OZZY OSBOURNE, QUIET RIOT, DEF LEPPARD and VAN HALEN had multi-platinum albums, even though some of them had found themselves below PRIEST on festival bills just a couple of years earlier.

Downing said: "We were thinking: Our support bands are having these massive-selling records. If you create the songs, you've got the media outlets with radio and television now. You can have these big records — you just have to put the songs together. Hence, probably, why PRIEST decided not to do a double album with the 'Turbo' album, which was originally going to be called 'Twin Turbos'. What we decided to do was condense everything down, and put out an album together that had good continuity, a good flow, but also was pretty much a radio-friendly album.

"We attempted it once, and kind of failed, because it didn't happen for us," he continued. "The producers from 'Top Gun' wanted a song from the album to put in the movie, and that didn't happen — our fault. Otherwise, it could have been very, very different for the band. We had an opportunity — it just didn't click for JUDAS PRIEST. They wanted the song 'Reckless'.

"That probably would have done it, because it would have been all over the radio, I suppose, if it was in the movie. We thought 'Turbo Lover' and 'Locked In' were going to do it for us, but they didn't. The tour was very successful, the album was successful, but it wasn't the big-selling album that we hoped for. I think quite a lot of that went on with the acceptability and success of a lot of other bands that you would look at on MTV. Even Ozzy went to the hairdressers."

Two years ago, when JUDAS PRIEST released an expanded three-disc edition of "Turbo" in honor of its 30th anniversary, singer Rob Halford told ABC Radio: "Depending on where you're at with PRIEST, and how you reflect on that album, I think ['Turbo'] creates kind of a mixed emotion. Because [it was] probably, and still is to some extent, the most controversial album that PRIEST ever made."

In a separate interview with Rolling Stone, Halford said that "Turbo"'s lyrical musical content was consistent with the general positivity that imbued a lot of popular music in the eighties. "Things were rocking along, and people were generally out there to party like wild metal maniacs," he recalled. "So we made a PRIEST record with a completely different look at life at the moment. … It was a great time for metal. I don't think it will ever be matched. Just look at what happened in 1986 musically. It was a remarkable year in and of itself."

Due in November, "Take It Off - Kiss Truly Unmasked" focuses on KISS's "non-makeup" era of 1983-1996, a period which helped resuscitate KISS's career, as they reestablished themselves in arenas, on the charts, and via MTV, and yielded some of their most popular songs — including "Lick It Up", "Heaven's On Fire", "Tears Are Falling", "Crazy Crazy Nights", "Hide Your Heart", "Forever", "Unholy", and more.

JUDAS PRIEST's RICHIE FAULKNER On GLENN TIPTON: 'He's A Hero'

JUDAS PRIEST's RICHIE FAULKNER On GLENN TIPTON: 'He's A Hero'

JUDAS PRIEST guitarist Richie Faulkner says that the band's Parkinson's disease-stricken axeman Glenn Tipton is a hero" whose "tenacity" and songwriting style made PRIEST what it is.

Tipton was diagnosed with Parkinson's more than five years ago — after being stricken by the condition at least half a decade earlier — but announced in early 2018 he was going to sit out touring activities in support of PRIEST's latest album, "Firepower". He was replaced by "Firepower" album producer Andy Sneap, who is also known for his work in NWOBHM revivalists HELL and cult thrash outfit SABBAT. Tipton occasionally joins PRIEST onstage for its encores, performing "Metal Gods", "Breaking The Law" and "Living After Midnight".

Richie recalled when he first learned about Tipton's illness during an appearance on the latest installment of Dean Delray's "Let There Be Talk" podcast. He said (hear audio below): "It was during the 'Redeemer Of Souls' tour that he got diagnosed — maybe, actually, a bit before. So, after the 'Epitaph' tour, but before the 'Redeemer Of Souls' tour he got diagnosed, and they told him that he had it for quite a few years before that, but he didn't know. He kept it quiet [after that], which is his business… He chose to go and check it out and they told him that it was the onset Parkinson's, and he told us. But he was able to do the 'Redeemer Of Souls' tour."

According to Faulkner, PRIEST "had to change the set slightly" on the "Redeemer" tour in order to accommodate Glenn. "Some things we couldn't do; some things we had to adapt slightly," he said. "[It was because of] his motor skills. I think I'm right about that. I know it must be frustrating — he knows what he wants to do in his mind, but the physical aspect… You know what I mean? And we actually started off the 'Redeemer Of Souls' tour, we didn't do 'Painkiller', we didn't do 'Electric Eye' — there's a few songs we didn't do. Halfway through the tour — I think we were in Australia somewhere — we started to do it. He warmed up — he got the strength back, and he was, like, 'I wanna do it.' But when it came to the rehearsals for the 'Firepower' tour, he pushed it right to the end. He was in rehearsals, he was trying his best, and it got to the point… I mean, it takes a big man. Glenn's a proud man. He's been at the top of his game for 50 years, and to admit anything like that is a big move. And he sat us all down and he said, 'Guys, I'm not gonna be able to do this tour.' And it was a bit of an emotional moment, as you can imagine; there were some tears."

Richie went on to say that it's heartbreaking for PRIEST to tour the world knowing that Glenn is unable to be with his bandmates.

"He's an influential guitar player; he's a great friend; he's a hero," Faulkner said. "And it's incredibly sad, obviously, and it must be incredibly frustrating for him. He says, to see us out on the road and he's not there with us, it's incredibly tough for him…

"He's a fighter, man," he continued. "Glenn's one of those types of personalities, I don't think PRIEST would be PRIEST without him — his tenacity and the way he writes music, the way he plays guitar and the personality that he is. As I said, he's a great friend; he's a hero. Just watching him and learning from him, without Glenn, it wouldn't be the same band."

Bassist Ian Hill is the sole remaining original member of PRIEST, which formed in 1969. Singer Rob Halford joined the group in 1973 and Tipton signed on in 1974. Rob left PRIEST in the early 1990s to form his own band, then returned to PRIEST in 2003. Founding guitarist K.K. Downing parted ways with the band in 2011, and was replaced by Faulkner.

WALLS OF JERICHO Drummer Arrested With More Than 600 Pounds Of Marijuana

WALLS OF JERICHO Drummer Arrested With More Than 600 Pounds Of Marijuana

According to the Oregon State Police, WALLS OF JERICHO drummer Dustin Schoenhofer was arrested last week in Oregon with more than 600 pounds of marijuana and nearly 40 pounds of suspected butane honey oil extract in his pickup.

On October 23, at about 3:00 p.m., an Oregon State Police trooper stopped a 2015 Chevy pickup on Hwy 140E near milepost 15 for a traffic violation. During the traffic stop, the trooper obtained probable cause to search the vehicle. During the search, the trooper located 632.5 lbs of marijuana and 36.8 lbs of suspected BHO (Butane Honey Oil) extract.

The driver was identified as Schoenhofer, age 41, from Ohio. Through the investigation, investigators learned the marijuana and BHO extract was destined for Ohio.

"The driver stated he was going to Ohio with the truck but didn't know the marijuana was in the back of it," trooper Adam Miller wrote in his log entry.

Schoenhofer was lodged at the Klamath County Jail for exporting marijuana, exporting extract, possession of a controlled substance-marijuana, and distribution of a controlled substance-marijuana, possession of a controlled substance-extract, and distribution of a controlled substance-extract.

According to the Mail Tribune, Schoenhofer is being held on $45,000 bail. Court records show the District Attorney's office objected to his entry into a county drug court program, citing "650 pounds of marijuana and no local connections," as its reasons.

The OSP Domestic Highway Enforcement (DHE) team routinely conducts illegal narcotic trafficking saturations throughout the state of Oregon. Their mission is to identify and disrupt all criminal conduct on Oregon highways and identify elements of drug trafficking organizations for further investigation and dismantling in cooperation with numerous law enforcement agencies not only in Oregon but several other locations within the United States.

ALL THAT REMAINS Guitarist OLI HERBERT's Death Is Still A Mystery

ALL THAT REMAINS Guitarist OLI HERBERT's Death Is Still A Mystery

According to the Hartford Courant, police are still investigating the death of ALL THAT REMAINS guitarist Oliver "Oli" Herbert, who passed away a year ago. In the meantime, his wife Elizabeth Herbert is involved in a legal battle with the remaining members of ALL THAT REMAINS for her share of the band's profits.

Elizabeth Herbert's attorney has filed a three-page letter in probate court indicating that the band has refused to turn over financial information that she needs to file an inventory of her husband's estate with the court. The letter also claims that she is owed money from tours ALL THAT REMAINS completed shortly after his death.

"There have been tours and shows played by ALL THAT REMAINS since Oli Herbert's death about which the estate, as part owner of All Things Remain Inc., hasn't been notified by being sent its copy of the profit and loss statements nor has the estate been paid its equal portion of profits as tour pay," the letter states.

Oli was found dead on October 16, 2018 at the edge of the pond on his Stafford Springs, Connecticut property. He was reported missing by his wife about 3 p.m., and his body was found by police face down at the edge of the pond where the water was only a few inches deep.

The Connecticut State Police Eastern District Crime Squad is investigating Herbert's death, which is being treated as suspicious. They are looking at the will he signed a week before his death as well as a life insurance policy mentioned in the will.

The will names Elizabeth Herbert as executor and sole benefactor. It says that Oliver Herbert's sister, Cynthia Herbert, should not become executor or receive anything from his estate. The will also states that Elizabeth Herbert should get all "property as well as any current or future earnings."

According to the Hartford Courant, state police have seized Elizabeth Herbert's computer and phone records as part of their investigation.

The couple were married for 14 years and lived in Stafford Springs for four years before Oli's death.

Last year, ALL THAT REMAINS singer Phil Labonte called Elizabeth Herbert a "garbage human being" who was "never allowed" to join the band on tour. "She would come to the local shows, because we couldn't stop her from showing up," he explained. "[But] she wasn't allowed because she's a garbage human being."

According to the singer, he tried unsuccessfully to convince Oli to get a divorce for a long time. "I can't tell you exactly why he wouldn't do it or what the circumstances [were] surrounding his resistance," he said. "I don't know. But I can say that I personally talked to him multiple times and said, 'Look, if you need a place to stay, I've got plenty of room. Come to my house."

Asked if he had an opinion on how Oli died, the singer responded: "I do have an opinion on it, but I'm not gonna say. There is an ongoing investigation by the Connecticut state police."

Some fans have espoused various theories surrounding Oli's death and a Facebook page, Justice For Oli Herbert, has more than 12,000 followers.

Herbert began playing guitar at 14. He co-founded ALL THAT REMAINS with Labonte in 1998.

The surviving members of ALL THAT REMAINS — Labonte, Mike Martin (guitar), Jason Costa (drums) and Aaron Patrick (bass, backing vocals) — recruited guitar virtuoso and YouTube personality Jason Richardson (ALL SHALL PERISH, CHELSEA GRIN, BORN OF OSIRIS) to replace Herbert.

Songwriter DESMOND CHILD Looks Back On BON JOVI Hit "You Give Love A Bad Name" - "That Song Was Written In An Hour-And-A-Half"

Songwriter DESMOND CHILD Looks Back On BON JOVI Hit "You Give Love A Bad Name" - "That Song Was Written In An Hour-And-A-Half"

Songwriter Desmond Child, who is responsible for writing and co-writing hit songs for Bon Jovi, Ricky Martin, Cher and Joan Jett to name a few, is the subject of a new EW.com feature. An excerpt is available below, with Child reflecting on some of his biggest hits.

"You Give Love A Bad Name" - Bon Jovi

Child: "Paul Stanley had given Jon my number because Bon Jovi was opening for KISS in Europe. I went to this little wooden house in New Jersey — it was Richie Sambora’s parent’s house where he grew up — and down in the basement they had a little setup: a little electronic keyboard on a rickety formica table that had been retired down there, and washing machines and space heaters and buzzing amps. I had a title that I brought in, Bob Crewe-style — because he wouldn’t even start a song unless we had a killer title — ‘You Give Love a Bad Name'. It was the first time I saw that billion-dollar Bon Jovi smile, those teeth. He looked at me and lit up, and said, 'Shot through the heart, and you’re to blame,' and then the three of us said, 'You give love a bad name.' Then we had our first slap five, and then that song was written within an hour and a half. It was, like, channeled."

"Livin' On A Prayer" - Bon Jovi

Child: "We wrote it in New York City in a borrowed apartment on this very old, out of tune, upright piano. Everybody brought their story to it. I brought the story of me and (Rouge singer) Maria (Vidal) because she worked in a diner called Once Upon a Stove — they had singing and dancing waitresses and waiters — and her waitress name was Gina Velvet. I suggested Johnny and Gina because Johnny is my real name. Jon said, 'Well, I can’t sing Johnny because then I’d be singing about myself.' I went, 'Oh s—, right.' I just found a quick sound alike, Tommy, and the story of Tommy and Gina was born."

Desmond Child received the ASCAP Founders Award at the performance rights organization’s annual ASCAP Pop Music Awards, held in Beverly Hills on April 23rd, 2018.

Said ASCAP President Paul Williams of Childs: “Desmond is one of the most respected and successful songwriters in the world. His unique ability to capture the essence of our lives through song — whether we’re livin’ la vida loca or livin’ on a prayer - is simply unequaled. We are honored to present Desmond with the ASCAP Founders Award in recognition of his towering achievements. With #1 hits spanning five decades now, Desmond surely has many more milestones still to come.”

Added longtime collaborator Jon Bon Jovi: “The Desmond you don’t know about is the one who not only taught me the next level of songwriting but so many of the true aspects of friendship: truth, honor, and loyalty.”

DEF LEPPARD's JOE ELLIOTT On Second Las Vegas Residency: 'It Was The Biggest Production We've Ever Done'

DEF LEPPARD's JOE ELLIOTT On Second Las Vegas Residency: 'It Was The Biggest Production We've Ever Done'

DEF LEPPARD frontman Joe Elliott spoke to Meltdown of the WRIF radio station about the band's second Las Vegas residency, which concluded early last month at Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.

"It was great," he said. "It was really fun. We did 12 shows over a three-week period. We never played the same set twice. We threw in some really obscure stuff that we haven't played for many years — things off 'High 'N' Dry' — we played some stuff that we haven't played for 25, 26 years, from 'Pyromania', and we played songs we've never played before live ever in front of an audience. We really did have fun changing it up every night. Great audiences. It was the biggest production we've ever done. And we got to sleep in the same bed for three weeks. [Laughs]"

Joe elaborated on the importance of changing up the setlist during the residency, telling WRIF: "You don't get old in three weeks, but you would if you were playing the same set night after night after night after night. And I think the fact that we changed up the set every night, it means that when we went in to soundcheck, we'd have to play these songs to make sure we were comfortable to play them that night. So it always gives it a bit of an edge, especially when you don't really make your mind up which songs you're gonna play until maybe a couple of hours before you go on. You're, like, 'Oh, what are we gonna do tonight?' There's core elements of the set that don't change, like the intro, the middle bit and maybe the ending, because there's certain songs that a band like us, you can't get out of the building alive unless you play 'em. But there is scope for in and around kind of the ride areas in the set, where you're going from sequence one to sequence two, if you like, where you can change things out, and that's what we did. And we had a lot of fun doing that."

At the opening concert of the residency on August 14, the band's 23-song set included two tracks which had never been performed before — "Let Me Be" from "X" and "We Belong" from "Def Leppard" — along with rarely played cuts "Die Hard The Hunter" (aired for the first time since 1992), "Slang" (first time since 2013), "Billy's Got A Gun" (first time since 2002), "Have You Ever Needed Someone So Bad" (first time since 2005) and "Now" (first time since 2003). There was also a mini-acoustic set in the middle, consisting of four tracks.

DEF LEPPARD played its first Las Vegas residency six years ago at the Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel, a pioneering effort for a rock band.

Zappos Theater has previously hosted residencies from Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Lionel Richie, Gwen Stefani and Christina Aguilera.

Tickets for "Def Leppard Hits Vegas: The Sin City Residency" went on sale in February.

STEVE GORMAN Says 'It's Hardly A Surprise' That THE BLACK CROWES Are Rumored To Be Reuniting For 2020 Tour

STEVE GORMAN Says 'It's Hardly A Surprise' That THE BLACK CROWES Are Rumored To Be Reuniting For 2020 Tour

Drummer Steve Gorman says that "it's hardly a surprise" that Chris and Rich Robinson are rumored to be reuniting for a BLACK CROWES tour next year.

Former manager Pete Angelus recently told The Wall Street Journal that he is "aware of the deal" that the Robsinson brothers "made with Live Nation for a 2020 tour," while another source that is "familiar with the matter" simply said that "there might be something in the works."

Speaking to Andy Hall of Iowa rock station Lazer 103.3, Gorman said that it's a good bet that BLACK CROWES will be performing live again in the coming months. "Everything I'm hearing from sources in the industry is that they're going out next year," he said (hear audio below). "And it's hardly a surprise… They've painted themselves into some pretty brutal corners, and so they're gonna do this. And it's not gonna involve anybody from THE BLACK CROWES — it's just the two of them — and if they think that's good, then… I don't begrudge anybody who goes out and makes a living playing music, especially in your 50s. I mean, if you can do it, that's great. But there's a band, and then there's a brand, and those are two very different things."

Earlier this month, All Star Signatures uploaded a video of Chris and Rich Robinson purportedly signing autographs for fans in Nashville in September.

Last year, Chris put together a band called AS THE CROW FLIES to perform primarily BLACK CROWES songs. Meanwhile, Rich was most recently involved with THE MAGPIE SALUTE in which he was joined by Marc Ford from THE BLACK CROWES, bassist Sven Pipien (also from the CROWES) along with lead singer John Hogg (HOOKAH BROWN, MOKE), drummer Joe Magistro and guitarist Nico Bereciartua.

Gorman recently told Ultimate Classic Rock that Chris and Rich "have every right" to go out on the road with new musicians and call it THE BLACK CROWES. "When I quit the band in 2001, I relinquished my right to the name," he explained. "I never thought I'd be back to begin with. And I never was cut back in on that side of things as far as a third of the partnership in terms of who owns the name THE BLACK CROWES. And that's fine."

Pressed about whether there is any scenario under which he would be willing to return to THE BLACK CROWES for a hypothetical reunion tour, Gorman said: "Not that I can imagine, and I have a really active imagination. So I would say no. And the truth is this, I have absolutely no interest in being in a room with either one of those guys, much less onstage with them for a year and a half."

THE BLACK CROWES have been inactive since they played their final show in December 2013.

Gorman's book, "Hard To Handle: The Life And Death Of The Black Crowes - A Memoir", was released last month.

RUSH's GEDDY LEE Is Not Ready To Write His Autobiography

RUSH's GEDDY LEE Is Not Ready To Write His Autobiography

Geddy Lee says that he is not ready to write an autobiography.

The RUSH bassist/vocalist has spent most of last year promoting "Geddy Lee's Big Beautiful Book Of Bass", which showcases his collection of bass guitars and the stories behind them.

Asked in a recent interview with U.K.'s Bass Guitar magazine if fans can expect him to tell his life story in book form next, Lee responded: "It's funny, when I went to do this bass book, everybody wanted me to do one of those. They said, 'We'll let you do this silly book, but how about an autobiography?'

"I don't think my story's done yet. It feels a bit premature. Maybe I'm kidding myself, but I don't quite feel like I'm ready to do that yet. I have other ideas for books, but they're not autobiographical."

"Geddy Lee's Big Beautiful Book Of Bass" was released last December.

Among the instruments showcased in the book are by Fender, Gibson/Epiphone, Rickenbacker, Hofner, Ampeg — and lesser-known-but-influential global luthiers such as Antonio Wandr Pioli, Dan Armstrong and Tony Zemaitis.

Interspersed in the book are interviews by such high-profile players and technicians as John Paul Jones, Adam Clayton, Robert Trujillo, Jeff Tweedy, Bill Wyman, Les Claypool, along with Pete Townshend's legendary guitar tech, Alan Rogan.

PASSION Featuring Former NIGHT BY NIGHT Singer To Release Self-Titled Debut Album In January; "Trespass On Love" Single And Music Video Out Now

PASSION Featuring Former NIGHT BY NIGHT Singer To Release Self-Titled Debut Album In January; "Trespass On Love" Single And Music Video Out Now

Passion will release their self-titled debut album, Passion, on January 24 via Frontiers Music Srl. The first single and video, "Trespass On Love" is out now. The video can be found below, and you can stream the single and pre-order the album, here.

Passion is a new British hard rock band inspired by the 80’s and 90’s giants of the genre. First single, “Trespass On Love” was actually the first song written for the album and the spark that ignited singer Lion Ravarez (aka Dan Rossall) to start the band. "It was from here that I decided to go on and assemble Passion as a band and produce our debut album,” says Lion. "The song is perhaps a little more mellow than the rest of the album, but it's certainly rich with influences that hail from the melodic rock and AOR genres. We wanted our first music video to showcase Passion's attitude and sense of humour, it's very tongue-in-cheek. We hope that anyone new who discovers us will understand that we just want to put a smile on their face. The music video was directed by Jay Hillyer and we shot the footage at Impossible Nightclub in Manchester, UK."

The concept behind Passion is simple: great musicianship, great songwriting, memorable melodies and hooks, serve the song first. "In addition to this,” continues Lion, "we wanted to create an act using fictional characters (hence the names) as we feel humour is positive, after all this is the entertainment industry. Don't let that confuse you though, we're not a joke band. We're deeply passionate about creating high quality rock music and we're also very enthusiastic about entertaining an audience.”

Passion play straight up melodic hard rock, with bold and excitable hooks and alluring musicality. "We love soulful vocals with razor sharp highs, memorable guitar riffs, and tasteful solos. If you like "songs", then you'll enjoy Passion. I'm confident that we can make a mark on the rock and metal scenes the world over, it just takes time, but we’re gonna get there, I promise,” concludes Lion.

Would MEGADETH Consider Enlisting Temporary Replacement For DAVE MUSTAINE? DAVID ELLEFSON Responds

Would MEGADETH Consider Enlisting Temporary Replacement For DAVE MUSTAINE? DAVID ELLEFSON Responds

In a brand new interview with Sofa King Cool, MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson offered an update on the health status of his bandmate, MEGADETH leader Dave Mustaine, who was diagnosed with throat cancer this past spring. Ellefson responded (see video below): "He's doing okay. He's in his recovery now, so we'll kind of let that take its course. And when he's indicating he's ready to start working and maybe doing some recording and getting back into it and stuff. And, of course, we have the MEGADETH, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH and BAD WOLVES [European] tour announced for January. So we're just kind of letting him dictate that as his recovery [continues]."

Asked if there is a chance that Mustaine's singing voice will be different after undergoing treatment for his cancer, Ellefson said: "Who knows? Again, it's all subject to how he recovers. We talk on the phone, and he sounds like he always has. [Laughs] So hopefully it will be fine."

Pressed about whether MEGADETH would consider finding a temporary replacement for Mustaine if Dave is unable to do the FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH tour due to his health, Ellefson said: "I don't think so. I mean, it's pretty hard to replace Dave. [Laughs] I think at this point, we're MEGADETH and we're a four-piece band. The main thing is we're hopeful of a recovery. So we'll let that take its course, and we kind of just make the decisions as we go. Right now, we're optimistic 2020 will be a good year."

MEGADETH's tour with FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH and BAD WOLVES will visit 14 European countries starting on January 20 at the Hartwall Arena in Helsinki, Finland and ending on February 20 at the Budapest Sportarena in Budapest, Hungary.

The 58-year-old MEGADETH leader revealed his cancer diagnosis on June 17 on social media. He later issued an update, saying that his doctors "are feeling very positive" regarding the progress of his treatment.

Although most of MEGADETH's previously announced 2019 tour dates have been canceled as Mustaine battles the disease, the MEGADETH-curated Megacruise — which took place October 13-19 — still departed as scheduled, with Dave absent from the ship.

MEGADETH's follow-up to 2016's "Dystopia" album will mark the band's first release with drummer Dirk Verbeuren, who joined the group more than three years ago.

CHARLIE BENANTE: Why ANTHRAX Should Be Nominated For ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME

CHARLIE BENANTE: Why ANTHRAX Should Be Nominated For ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME

Charlie Benante says that ANTHRAX should be nominated for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame because of the role his band played in creating the rap rock genre.

The drummer addressed ANTHRAX's absence from the Rock Hall during a recent appearance on SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation". He told host Eddie Trunk: "It's funny, because every time I see, every year they have the nominees, and it's, like, I look on the list and I'm, like, 'Okay. Okay. Okay. What? What?'

"The reason why I think we should be nominated for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame is because of the stamp that we made on rock and heavy metal music," he explained. "If it wasn't for us, man, there'd be a lot of bands that wouldn't be around today. And I don't mean to sound, 'Oh, this guy's got a huge ego,' but we introduced a lot of people to rap music and to that whole style that became 'nu metal.' And we never really talk about it too much, but since you brought it up, it's, like, yeah. I think that's more important to the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame, because of what genre it created, and that genre created such another genre."

Even though artists are eligible for the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame 25 years after the release of their first album or single, iconic hard rock and metal bands like IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST and MOTÖRHEAD have yet to be recognized by the institution, which inducted GUNS N' ROSES in that group's first year of eligibility.

Rock Hall rules state that artists become eligible a quarter century after their first records were released, but the Hall also claims that other "criteria include the influence and significance of the artists' contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock 'n' roll," which is, of course, open to interpretation.

ANTHRAX released its first single, "Soldiers Of Metal", in 1983, which means that the band has been eligible for induction since 2008.

In a 2015 interview with EMP Live TV, ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian said that his band wasn't the first to mix rap with heavy metal. "There were other bands dicking around with that before us too," he said. "FAITH NO MORE was doing it around the same time as us. There were other people involved. I can't say that what we did… certainly not 'I'm The Man', but maybe more so with 'Bring The Noise'… I think that did influence a lot of people, but we certainly don't take credit for what came after. I really don't think a lot of those bands [like KORN and LIMP BIZKIT] were sitting around, listening to 'Bring The Noise' and then they became bands… I had one of the dudes from LINKIN PARK, a long time ago, one of them told me he was at the ANTHRAX/PUBLIC ENEMY show in Los Angeles on the tour, and he loved it, and it was a very important night for him. So that was nice to hear."

Asked in a 2013 interview with The National Student if he thinks the backlash in the collaboration ANTHRAX did with PUBLIC ENEMY helped to form any of the nu-metal music today, Ian said: "You know, people ask us, do we think we created certain genres of music that the press named after we did what we did with PUBLIC ENEMY. I never thought we invented it. It certainly opened a door, even just a window for people to jump out of. I truly believe that RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE were the band that drove a train through that door; they took the influences in their individuals and came together to make a band out of it. Whereas with us and PUBLIC ENEMY, it's not like ANTHRAX became a rap group and it's not like PUBLIC ENEMY became a metal group, we just collaborated together and did something great. We didn't then become one unit and continue to make music like that. Whereas, RAGE AGAINST were that unit and this is the music that they were creating from their souls which blew up massively on a worldwide level. So I think if anything, whether or not they'd want the credit for it, it's definitely RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE for me that created rap metal, nu metal, whatever you want to call it. Everything that came after them showed that a direct line had to go back to RAGE. The only thing I can personally take credit for is, there have been guys in bands that have come up to me and personally told me the influence that we bring to them specifically some of the dudes from LINKIN PARK told me years and years ago that the first concert they ever saw was ANTHRAX and PUBLIC ENEMY in Los Angeles. And they left that show saying that's the kind of band we want me to make. I know the guys in RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE and I know Tom [Morello, guitar] and he was a fan of ours and PUBLIC ENEMY's and what we did. I'm not saying 'Bring The Noise' was a direct responsibility for RAGE, but I know that it's something they are certainly fans of."

ANTHRAX's version of "Bring the Noise" was featured on "Attack of the Killer B's", a compilation album of B-sides, covers and rarities, which was released in June 1991.

SHINEDOWN's BARRY KERCH Says Hearing NINE INCH NAILS' 'Pretty Hate Machine' For First Time Was 'A Life-Changing Moment'

SHINEDOWN's BARRY KERCH Says Hearing NINE INCH NAILS' 'Pretty Hate Machine' For First Time Was 'A Life-Changing Moment'

During a recent interview with Kat of the 103 GBF radio station, SHINEDOWN drummer Barry Kerch spoke about the impact that hearing NINE INCH NAILS' "Pretty Hate Machine" had on him the the first time he heard the album.

He said (see video below): "I was in high school when that album came out. I was a metalhead — '80s metalhead — and I wasn't gonna change my ways… This was in '89 or '90 — something like that… A buddy of mine, he was always listening to music — he had his CD player. This was the beginning of CDs. And he says, 'Just listen to this.' And I put it in, and it hit me immediately. I was, like, 'What the hell is this?' It was a game changer. From then on, I became a huge NINE INCH NAILS fan. And for my high school job, I worked at a music store, so when 'The Downward Spiral' came out [in 1994], I was one of the first people that had a promo copy that I was able to take home."

He added: "So, yeah, NINE INCH NAILS was a life-changing moment… It shifted everything… [Trent Reznor] wrote good songs. And he believed what he was saying. You could hear the angst in his voice."

SHINEDOWN is continuing to tour in support of its latest album, "Attention Attention", which came out last year. The follow-up to 2015's "Threat To Survival" marked SHINEDOWN's first full-length effort to be produced entirely by bassist Eric Bass. The 14-song release tells the story of a character who starts out defeated and slowly overcomes pain and personal struggles and becomes confident at the end.

SHINEDOWN's "Get Up" single went to No. 1 on the mainstream rock chart in December and crossed over to the alternative and adult contemporary charts.

SHINEDOWN has had 14 top singles in its 18-year run. That's second most in the mainstream rock chart's history, breaking a tie with VAN HALEN.

CHRIS ADLER On His Exit From LAMB OF GOD: 'I Did Not Make The Decision To Leave My Life's Work'

CHRIS ADLER On His Exit From LAMB OF GOD: 'I Did Not Make The Decision To Leave My Life's Work'

Chris Adler has broken his silence about his departure from LAMB OF GOD, explaining that he "did not make the decision to leave [his] life's work."

LAMB OF GOD officially parted ways with Adler in July. His replacement is Art Cruz, who has previously played with PRONG and WINDS OF PLAGUE, and filled in for Adler on several LAMB OF GOD tours in 2018 and 2019.

Earlier today, Adler released a statement in which he finally explained some of the reasons for his exit from the band he co-founded 25 years ago.

The drummer wrote: "I feel it is time to address the many questions being asked about my departure from LAMB OF GOD.

"Allow me to start with a relative concept of understanding. We all gave our lives to this, 26 years is not flippant. Each one of us sacrificed and lost much on a personal level to live the dream we had when we were kids.

"I will always love each member of the band for believing in me and agreeing to take on the world. We managed to find some love in the machine but in turn, it took things that cannot be recovered.

"I did not leave the dream. I did not make the decision to leave my life's work. The truth is that, I am I unwilling to paint by numbers.

"I wish my brothers all the best in their continued ventures. I can assure you that you will hear from me again. I was given a gift and hope to continue to share it.

"Many have asked about a motorbike accident I had in Thailand in 2017. It's true that it was not pretty, but I've been well since August of 2018. Thank you for your concerns.

"I support my friends and the dream I allowed them to share in. I loved and am still humbled by every second of the smiles and horns we elicited.

"There is an ambiguous concept in our world of 'selling out.' I cannot define that outside of my personal understanding, but know that being trapped in a 'creative' formula and/or playing the same song 10,000 times did not bolster my love of playing. I'm never been one to 'phone it in.' I'd rather mow the grass.

"I acknowledge and am truly grateful of achieving my childhood dream.

"I have 2 Grammys that sit on my mother's mantle piece. I think she deserves 3 so this party isn't over.

"I was not given a choice in this and my dream is alive.

"Feel free to say hello if you see me mowing the grass. It never gets old.

"I appreciate each and every one of you!

"Thank you!

"Chris

"P.S.: I may or may not be in touch with Kyle Thomas and Myrone about an Oakland Raiders concept album. This is neither confirmed or denied."

When Adler's absence from LAMB OF GOD's summer 2018 tour was first announced, he released a statement saying that he had been undergoing physical and occupational therapy for injuries he sustained in the aforementioned motorcycle accident.

In addition to LAMB OF GOD, Adler has played drums with a number of metal artists, including MEGADETH, NITRO, BLOTTED SCIENCE and PROTEST THE HERO.

Adler is currently playing with the rotating supergroup HAIL!, whose lineup also includes EXODUS vocalist Steve "Zetro" Souza, VIO-LENCE/ex-MACHINE HEAD guitarist Phil Demmel and former MEGADETH/BLACK LABEL SOCIETY bassist James LoMenzo.

Last year, Adler partnered with music industry executive Jason Lekberg to launch Kintsugi Management.

In November, Chris will return to India to conduct a series of drum and music-business clinics and live shows titled "The Chris Adler Experience", presented by Gravity Talent. The live shows will see Adler supported by a number of the country's top musicians belting out the best-known LAMB OF GOD and MEGADETH material.

KISS: 'Take It Off: KISS Truly Unmasked' Book Focuses On 'Non-Makeup' Years

KISS: 'Take It Off: KISS Truly Unmasked' Book Focuses On 'Non-Makeup' Years

Jawbone Press will release Greg Prato's new book, "Take It Off: Kiss Truly Unmasked", on November 19.

There is a common misconception about KISS, one of the greatest hard-rock/heavy metal-bands of all-time: that their "non-makeup" era of 1983-1996 is not as enduring as the period when they stalked stages as the Starchild, the Demon, the Spaceman, and the Cat.

This is untrue. In fact, this period helped resuscitate KISS's career, as they reestablished themselves in arenas, on the charts, and via MTV, and yielded some of their most popular songs — including "Lick It Up", "Heaven's On Fire", "Tears Are Falling", "Crazy Crazy Nights", "Hide Your Heart", "Forever", "Unholy" and more — many of which consistently found their way into the band's set lists.

While the majority of KISS books are focused on the glitz and glamour of the iconic makeup era, the non-makeup years are ripe to be explored in book form, and "Take It Off" does just that, zeroing in on the eleven albums KISS issued during this period — including such gold- and platinum-certified hits as "Lick It Up", "Animalize", "Crazy Nights", "Revenge" and "Alive III" — as well the resulting tours, videos, and other escapades.

"Take It Off" draws on all-new interviews with KISS experts and associates, including the band's lead guitarist throughout most of this period, Bruce Kulick, plus "Crazy Nights" producer Ron Nevison and video director Paul Rachman ("Unholy", "I Just Wanna", "Domino"). Among the other contributors are Charlie Benante (ANTHRAX), K.K. Downing (ex-JUDAS PRIEST), Derek Sherinan (ex-DREAM THEATER), and rock music experts Eddie Trunk, Katherine Turman and Lonn Friend. The book also includes a foreword by FOZZY frontman Chris Jericho and an afterword by acclaimed producer Andreas Carlsson, as well as rare photographs and memorabilia from the period.

GREAT WHITE's Vintage Demo Recordings To Be Made Available On 'The Roots Of GREAT WHITE 1978-1982' CD

GREAT WHITE's Vintage Demo Recordings To Be Made Available On 'The Roots Of GREAT WHITE 1978-1982' CD

The story of hard rock icons GREAT WHITE, best known for their smash hit singles "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" and "Rock Me", begins with the meeting of vocalist Jack Russell and guitarist Mark Kendall. The partnership between these two extraordinarily talented artists would go on to produce multiple platinum-selling albums and made GREAT WHITE one of the most fearsome rock outfits to launch out of California's '80s metal powder keg. But before Russell and Kendall formed GREAT WHITE, they first came together as DANTE FOX, a short-lived, hard-chargin' band of young upstarts who banged out original songs written by Russell and Kendall. And now for the first time ever, these early demos are being released to fans and collectors alike on the compilation "The Roots Of Great White 1978-1982", available on both CD and limited-edition blue vinyl courtesy of Deadline Music, a division of Cleopatra Records, Inc.

This excellent compilation includes songs that would eventually find their way on to GREAT WHITE's 1984 self-titled debut album such as "In Love" (later re-written as "On Your Knees") and "Money" (later rewritten as "Stick It"). As Russell himself notes: "Although roughly recorded on eigfht-track tape, the listener will get a glimpse of what was to come. They represent the birth of the band that later became GREAT WHITE."

"The Roots Of Great White 1978-1982" will be available everywhere records are sold starting October 25.

THE SPIRIT Announce New Album Cosmic Terror

THE SPIRIT Announce New Album Cosmic Terror

Two and a half years after the release of their debut Sounds From The Vortex, black/death metal masters The Spirit return with a sophomore album that will carry the title Cosmic Terror.

As far-reaching as the literary, philosophical and psychological meanings behind this title may be, for the German combo from Saarbrücken, it opens up a world of its own. They do not want to explain anything. They do not want to analyze their lyrics, characterized by misanthropy and social criticism. The band pursues only one simple goal: to let their icy sound of harsh yet slightly melodic extreme metal speak for itself.

After a busy year of 2018, packed with release shows at the German Party.San and Summer Breeze festivals as well as an extensive European tour with Hypocrisy and Kataklysm, bandleader and songwriter M.T. entered Woodshed Studios in the spring of 2019, to record this sophomore release with producer V. Santura (Triptykon, Dark Fortress). Previously, the drums have been tracked at the Iguana Studio in Baden-Württemberg.

The result are seven raging anthems, consisting of genuine guitar work, the suffocating emptiness of the cosmos and extensive instrumental passages - which even attracted nearby snakes to the studio's terrace during the recording! And M.T.’s lifelong passion for prog rock can also not be denied at certain moments of the record.

Finalized with a unique cover artwork by French ”Metastazis”-artist Valnoir, Cosmic Terror tears the listener into a musical catharsis and will be released through AOP Records on February 7, 2020.

The album will be available as CD, vinyl LP and digitally and the pre-order starts very soon, so stay tuned for the first single to be unleashed on November 7.

Tracklisting:

“Serpent As Time Reveals”
“Strive For Salvation”
“Repugnant Human Scum”
“The Path Of Solitude”
“Pillars Of Doom”
“The Wide Emptiness”
“Cosmic Terror”

Watch HALESTORM's LZZY HALE Perform SOUNDGARDEN's 'My Wave' With Nashville Rockers SLIDER

Watch HALESTORM's LZZY HALE Perform SOUNDGARDEN's 'My Wave' With Nashville Rockers SLIDER

HALESTORM's Lzzy Hale joined Nashville rockers SLIDER on stage Saturday night (October 26) at the Basement in their hometown to perform a cover of the SOUNDGARDEN classic "My Wave". Video footage of her appearance can be seen below.

Two and a half years ago, shortly after the passing of SOUNDGARDEN frontman Chris Cornell, Hale told the 97.7 WQLZ radio station: "Honestly, SOUNDGARDEN was a huge building block with my bandmates, 'cause that band… that kind of knocked me out of my '80s obsession. That was the band that brought me into the '90s and the magic of that. I remember… I think it was a couple of days after I met Joe [Hottinger, HALESTORM guitarist], he ended up giving me — back when you used to burn CDs — he gave me this kind of mixed tape of… there was 'Down On The Upside' and there was some stuff from 'Superunknown', and it blew my freaking mind, because I hadn't really dug into that band yet. And it literally… I think it helped shape our HALESTORM sound. This was in 2003 when we started kind of really getting it together."

She continued: "Nobody approached the microphone like [Chris] did. There was just this effortless… and all these different characters that he developed over records, which is something I always kind of go to. We're actually doing that in the studio now — we're, like, 'This about all the characters that Chris Cornell had and how he used them in every song.' There were a couple of different voices. And we discussed that even before he passed, we discussed this over the years."

Hale added: "It's just so sad to lose another one. He's such a great talent, and it's so incredibly heartbreaking that he's gone now."

HALESTORM's latest album, "Vicious", was released in July 2018 via Atlantic. The disc was recorded in 2017 at Nashville, Tennessee's Rock Falcon recording studio with producer Nick Raskulinecz.

Hale recently told a New Jersey radio station that the band would record a "secret project" before hitting the road last month with GODSMACK.
