QUEEN: Trailer For 40th-Anniversary Edition Of 'News Of The World'A special box set of QUEEN's landmark 1977 album "News Of The World" is set for release towards the end of this year, marking the fortieth anniversary of the original release. This lavish new package has a worldwide release date of November 17 and is available to preorder now.
A trailer for the fortieth-anniversary edition of "News Of The World" is available below.
The fortieth anniversary is also marked with the release of a special limited-edition picture-disc album. Newly cut from the Bob Ludwig 2011 master, this picture disc version will be available in a strictly limited run of 1977 individually numbered copies housed in a commemorative die-cut sleeve. This version will only be available through preorder from the official QUEEN webstore.
Originally launched in October 1977, "News Of The World" is one of QUEEN's biggest selling albums of all time. It opens with two of the band's most indestructible worldwide hits, the Brian May-penned "We Will Rock You" and Freddie Mercury's "We Are The Champions", monumental stadium anthems which remain a staple of major sporting events all around the world to this day. With songs written by all four band members, "News Of The World", QUEEN's sixth album, set a new standard in stylistic diversity, from Roger Taylor's proto-punk blast of "Sheer Heart Attack" to the salacious funk-rock groove workout "Get Down Make Love", to the fragrant tropical calypso-pop "Who Needs You". "News Of The World" also features the hit "Spread Your Wings", the epic rock saga "It's Late" and Freddie's wistfully romantic "My Melancholy Blues".
The new package includes the original album on CD, plus two further CDs of recently unearthed out-takes and rarities from the band's archives, one of which is a newly created "alternative" version of the whole album — "Raw Sessions".
For many QUEEN devotees, this "Raw Sessions" CD will be the most intriguing component of the new release. Mined deep from long-vaulted studio multi-track tapes, this extraordinary parallel album brings to light never-before-heard alternative versions of each of the album's eleven tracks. Every lead vocal is different, as are most of the lead guitar parts and a great many other instrumental details. Here we experience "We Are The Champions" anew, with many unfamiliar vocal and instrumental elements, and for the first time at its full-recorded length rather than the edited 1977 album cut. Here also is the chance to discover peak-era Freddie Mercury vocals on a track that nobody outside QUEEN's inner circle has heard him sing before at all — Brian May's "All Dead, All Dead". The original album version features May himself on vocals. Roger Taylor's "Sheer Heart Attack" can be heard with its original long-lost guitar intro and uncut ending. Taylor's other song, "Fight From The Inside", is more remarkable in that we hear his demo vocal worked on in his home studio in preparation for the next sessions, "homework" that all of the band members would regularly carry out. As a point of note, Taylor plays all instruments on these two recordings, except for some lead guitar. In this age of digital leaks and obsessive fan culture, there is already great excitement that these recordings are, in 2017, truly new to the world.
The third CD in the package, "Bonus Tracks", features a feast of previously released but hard-to-find versions of "News Of The World" tracks recorded in concert, for radio shows, or in alternate mixes. Included is the band's entire five-song final live session recorded for BBC Radio in October 1977, seven live performances of "News Of The World" songs, plus rare backing tracks and instrumentals of the QUEEN classics "We Will Rock You", "We Are The Champions", "Spread Your Wings", "Get Down", "Make Love" and "Fight From The Inside". Also on this third disc is the seldom-heard U.S. radio edit of "It's Late", making its belated CD debut, and the rowdy stomper "Feelings Feelings", which was recorded during the original "News Of The World" sessions but not included on the final album.
Another outstanding feature of this weighty fortieth anniversary box is another first — a pure analogue re-cut of the original vinyl LP, direct from the unmastered analogue master mix tapes. This exceptional album collector's piece is presented in a facsimile original sleeve. There is also a rich selection of "News Of The World"-related memorabilia including three posters and a sixty-page book of images, mostly previously unseen.
The package is completed with a brand new one-hour DVD documentary, "Queen: The American Dream", created from backstage material filmed during QUEEN's 1977 USA "News Of The World" tour. In November that year, QUEEN embarked on another headlining U.S. tour. The highly respected British radio and TV presenter Bob Harris, complete with full film crew, followed their journey as part of a proposed documentary that has remained incomplete and unreleased — until now. The crew had unlimited access to the band on and off stage, in the recording studio and during rehearsals. This one-hour documentary includes superb live footage of QUEEN at the Houston Summit in December. We also see moments from the birth of "We Will Rock You" and "We Are The Champions", songs that would both earn a place in the Grammy Hall Of Fame. "Queen: The American Dream" is a fascinating behind-the-scenes insight into a young British band at a creative peak, defying the odds as they take the USA by storm.
For casual fans and QUEEN connoisseurs alike, the new "News Of The World" package, with its feast of extra material, is manna from Heaven — a bumper haul of buried treasure from a world-beating band in its prime.

FIREBALL MINISTRY Releases Music Video For 'The Answer'"The Answer", the new Brandon Trost-directed video from the Southern California rock 'n' roll band FIREBALL MINISTRY, can be seen below. The song is taken from the group's fifth studio album, "Remember The Story", which will be released on October 6 via Cleopatra Records. The band's first disc in nearly seven years delivers their tried-and-true signature stomp and fuzzy swing with an even broader scope and deeper emotional range. The album mines the depths of loss, pain, and confusion, exorcising demons with the spirited uplift this kind of music best delivers. "'Remember The Story' is about moving forward while staying connected to your past. With this album we've reached a new stage of crystallization and prowess in our riffage," says Emily J Burton. "This is a very personal record to me and was written from down deep," adds James A Rota. "It's also an honor to be playing alongside Emily [Burton] and John [Oreshnick] for the last twenty years. Having Scott [Reeder] with us along for the ride has made our greatest music to date, in my humble opinion." "Remember The Story" was produced/mixed by Paul Fig, the engineer behind important records from ALICE IN CHAINS and GHOST. SABBATH-soaked rhythms, PRIEST-worshipping melodies and no-nonsense THIN LIZZY mayhem collide in the Hollywood, California band, a group that has humbly but confidently flown the flag for rock authenticity since the hard-partying year of 1999. "Remember The Story"'s cover artwork was created by Caitlin Mattisson and conveys the album's theme of death and renewal. Speaking about the art, Mattisson says: "The vulture represents renewal and transformation and has connections to many mythologies and cultures, from being descended from Griffins in Greek mythology to the scientific (Latin) name of Turkey Vulture translating to Golden Purifier, which ties in to Jim's theme about a second chance at life. Elements inspired by Hildgard of Bingen have been worked into the border shapes, as well as two blown-out candles on the front. The book on the front is a FIREBALL MINISTRY hymnal shooting light. On the back of the album the candles are lit again and the vulture is flying away towards a new moon, new beginning." "Remember The Story" track listing:

I Don't Believe A Word FIREBALL MINISTRY will perform at the Cal Jam 17 festival on October 7 at Glen Helen Amphitheater And Festival Grounds in San Bernardino, California. Also performing at the festival will be FOO FIGHTERS, QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE, CAGE THE ELEPHANT, LIAM GALLAGHER, THE KILLS, ROYAL BLOOD and more. Photo credit: Andrew Stuart

THEORY OF A DEADMAN: 'Echoes' Video Released"Echoes", the new video from the Atlantic Records/604 Records group THEORY OF A DEADMAN, can be seen below. The song is taken from the band's new album, "Wake Up Call", which will be released on October 27. Recorded with producer Martin Terefe at London's Kensaltown Studios, "Wake Up Call" finds THEORY — Tyler Connolly (lead vocals, lead guitar), David Brenner (rhythm guitar), Dean Back (bass), and Joey Dandeneau (drums) — extending themselves beyond the easy comforts of complacency to create an album that pushes the songwriting envelope with songs like "Rx", which takes aim at the opioid epidemic impacting families across North America and "PCH", which juxtaposes the nostalgia for seemingly endless nights with friends and the bitter realities of life. THEORY has announced a fall headline tour to celebrate "Wake Up Call", which will get underway September 29 at Minneapolis, Minnesota's Skyway and continue through mid-November.
"Wake Up Call" follows 2014's "Savages", which earned THEORY their second consecutive Top 10 album on the Billboard 200 and third consecutive #1 on Billboard's Hard Rock Albums chart. "Savages" also featured the #1 Rock Radio smash, "Angel", which is accompanied by an official music now boasting upwards of 10 million views on THEORY's official YouTube channel. For more than a decade, THEORY has been among the most distinctive and popular bands in hard rock history, combining frank, earnest lyricism and extraordinary melodies with massive power and electrifying dynamics. With singer/songwriter Tyler Connolly at the helm, the Vancouver-based band has earned a fervent fan following as well as a long line of multi-format hits, among them the #1 Mainstream Rock breakthrough, "Bad Girlfriend" (found on 2008's RIAA-platinum-certified "Scars & Souvenirs").

PEARL JAM/SOUNDGARDEN Drummer MATT CAMERON Releases New Solo Single, 'Time Can't Wait'"Time Can't Wait", a new song from PEARL JAM, SOUNDGARDEN and TEMPLE OF THE DOG drummer Matt Cameron, can be streamed using the SoundCloud widget below. The track is taken from Cameron's new solo album titled "Cavedweller", which will be released on September 22.
The disc, which was completed before SOUNDGARDEN singer Chris Cornell passed away in May, features Matt on vocals and guitar, with drums by Mark Guiliana and bass by Tim Lefebvre, both of whom played on David Bowie's "Blackstar". "Mark's performance on the title track was kind of mind-blowing," Cameron told Rolling Stone. "That was kind of what I was hearing for a drum performance, so I just reached out through Instagram or Facebook and he got right back to me. Once he was on board, I had a little more confidence to complete the project."
Cameron — who has played in previous side projects such as HATER and WELLWATER CONSPIRACY, with which he has recorded three and five albums, respectively — admitted that handling the vocals on his solo album was "the toughest part for me. I'm pretty limited in terms of what I can do, but it's better for me to do it all as opposed to bringing in a real singer and doing it that way even though my vocal prowess is very limited in comparison to Chris and [PEARL JAM singer] Eddie [Vedder]," he told Rolling Stone.
Cameron was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame earlier this year as a twenty-year member of PEARL JAM, although both SOUNDGARDEN and TEMPLE OF THE DOG — which reunited last year for a tour — are both now seemingly over following the death of Cornell.

Former BATTLE BEAST Guitarist ANTON KABANEN's BEAST IN BLACK Releases 'Blind And Frozen' Video"Blind And Frozen", the first video from BEAST IN BLACK, the Helsinki, Finland-based metal band led by former BATTLE BEAST guitarist and main songwriter Anton Kabanen, can be seen below. The song is taken from BEAST IN BLACK's debut album, titled "Berserker", which will be released on November 3 via Nuclear Blast. The disc was produced by Kabanen and recorded primarily at his studio, Sound Quest Studio. The cover artwork is a collaboration between Anton and Roman Ismailov, who was the original illustrator and graphic artist for BATTLE BEAST.
Kabanen states: "'Blind And Frozen' is a super-catchy and massive song. Yannis's [Papadopoulos, vocals] interpretation and performance here is nothing short of pure perfection!"
"Berserker" track listing:
01. Beast In Black02. Blind And Frozen03. Blood Of A Lion04. Born Again05. Zodd The Immortal06. The Fifth Angel07. Crazy, Mad, Insane08. Hell For All Eternity (bonus track; digi only)09. Eternal Fire10. Go To Hell (bonus track; digi only)11. End Of The World12. Ghost In The Rain
BEAST IN BLACK was formed by Kabanen shortly after he exited BATTLE BEAST in early 2015. By the end of that year, his new group had played its first gig as opening act for NIGHTWISH.
The recording process for "Berserker" took more than a year and was completed this summer. The Nuclear Blast deal was inked almost immediately after BEAST IN BLACK put the finishing touches on the album.
According to a press release, "Berserker" "continues in the style of Anton's previously composed works which include the first three BATTLE BEAST albums. One of the essential themes on this debut album is the Japanese manga and anime Berserk."
Kabanen was dismissed from BATTLE BEAST in February 2015 due to what was described at the time as "insurmountable disagreements" with the other members of the band.
In a 2016 interview with Hungary's Hard Rock Magazin, Anton stated about his split with BATTLE BEAST: "To be honest, I'd prefer not to go into the truth how I see it, because probably it would only start an ugly and endless war of words. But at least to squeeze it into minimum without going into details, I can tell that hypocrisy, lying, opportunism and blackmailing was the name of the game. The whole thing was just wrong and twisted and there is no more BATTLE BEAST, if you ask me."
Kabanen admitted that it was "hard at first" to move forward after his departure from BATTLE BEAST "but the only solution was just to keep going." He added: "I got support from many dear people; fans, friends, colleagues, family and etc. I'm grateful to everyone who stood by my side. My passion is to create music and I always do it with full heart and uncompromised. So I kept writing new songs and tried to focus in forming a new band/project that would consist of people whose musical professionalism matches — or surpasses — my expectations and of people who would be honest and loyal friends."
Regarding why he chose to keep the word "beast" in the name of his new band, Anton said: "I want to continue my vision which I originally started with BATTLE BEAST. Basically, it means writing my own songs with freedom, and the beast has already become an essential part of my life. It's something like Eddie of IRON MAIDEN."
Asked how he would compare the music and the overall vibe of his new band to that of BATTLE BEAST, Anton said: "The feeling in this group is totally different. And only in a good way. Everyone can be themselves and we enjoy each other's company and I believe people will feel and see it. In BEAST IN BLACK, the level of musicianship is much higher than in BATTLE BEAST. The band rehearsals, the album recordings and the communication is so much smoother. The music itself is not gonna be so different, but it's gonna be more powerful and heavy."
BATTLE BEAST singer Noora Louhimo told Metal Assault earlier this year that the band parted ways with Anton because he "wanted to do all the songs and make decisions on everything, and we weren't willing to do that. We wanted this band to be involved, and have everyone write songs if they want to."
BEAST IN BLACK is:

SORCERER Feat. Ex-TIAMAT, LION'S SHARE Members: 'The Crowning Of The Fire King' Album Due In OctoberSwedish epic heavy doom metal warlords SORCERER will release their new album, "The Crowning Of The Fire King", on October 20 via Metal Blade Records.
The video for the disc's first single, "Sirens", can be viewed below.
SORCERER comments: "We have aimed to write an album with diversity and intensity, an album that we want to listen to ourselves.
"'The Crowning Of The Fire King' is by far our best recording ever with songs that are strong, powerful and doomy. We have captured what SORCERER is about and taken the songs to the next level for the band.
"With the first single, 'Sirens', we really want to show everyone that SORCERER is a force to count on!
"The video was made by our dear friend Daniel Nyqvist who did the videos for 'The Dark Tower Of The Sorcerer' and 'Prayers For A King'. We all feel that he succeeded to capture the essence of SORCERER with his videos and are proud of what he has done for the band."
"The Crowning Of The Fire King" track listing:
01. Sirens02. Ship Of Doom03. Abandoned By The Gods04. The Devils Incubus05. Nattvaka06. Crimson Cross07. The Crowning Of The Fire King08. Unbearable Sorrow
SORCERER emerged out of Sweden in the late 80s and was one of the very early bands to champion what is now known as "epic doom metal." Besides genre pioneers CANDLEMASS, groups like SOLITUDE AETURNUS, WHILE HEAVEN WEPT and SORCERER were among the few groups around representing this style of metal.
During its existence, SORCERER produced two self-financed cassette releases, both of which quickly became underground cult classics regularly hailed by metalheads as some of the finest of the era. After a few personnel changes, the group disintegrated in 1992 and since then some of the bandmembers went on to find some success with other groups. Bassist Johnny Hagel achieved greater success in TIAMAT and later SUNDOWN. Vocalist Anders Engberg has also made a name for himself with several other bands he has fronted, such as LION'S SHARE, TWILIGHT and SECTION A.
In the fall of 2010, members of SORCERER were coaxed into reforming to play a one-off gig at the Hammer Of Doom festival in Germany and, a year later, the Up The Hammers festival in Athens, Greece. Both shows were received extremely well and the thoughts of putting together a new album started to take form.
In March 2015, SORCERER released the critically acclaimed "In The Shadow Of The Inverted Cross". SORCERER played several festivals in support of the album — Sabaton Open Air and Rock Hard Festival, among others, with the latter especially being a huge success for the band, selling out their entire merch supply even before finishing their set.
2015 also saw the release of the EP "Black", which consisted of three songs left over from the "In The Shadow Of The Inverted Cross" sessions, as well as an acoustic version of the track "Prayers For A King".
In the end of 2015, the band started to write material for a follow-up album to "In The Shadow Of The Inverted Cross". Progress went pretty fast and ten new tracks emerged out of the royal epic doom chest. The songwriting carried on throughout 2016, and in early 2017, they went into the studio to record.
During the recording, the band and drummer Robert Iversen parted ways because of musical differences, and Lars Sköld (TIAMAT, AVATARIUM) filled the role as session drummer on the album.
In the early summer of 2017, the album was ready to be mixed by the very talented Ronnie Björnström (AEON, CUT UP, 220 VOLT), who also turned the knobs on their last album. The mastering this time was expertly handled by Mr. Thomas "Plec" Johansson (SOILWORK, WATAIN).
SORCERER is:

Listen To New L.A. GUNS Song 'Christine'"Christine", a new song from L.A. GUNS, can be streamed below. The track is taken from the band's upcoming album, "The Missing Peace", which will be released on October 13 via the Italian record label Frontiers Music Srl. The disc's cover artwork was created by the Las Vegas portrait painter Kahla and can be seen below.
As the revival of the classic '80s hard rock and heavy metal scene continues unabated here in the 21st century, one reunion has been at the top of the wishlists of many a fan for a long time: the songwriting combination of Tracii Guns and Philip Lewis under the L.A. GUNS banner. What once seemed like a distant memory with no hope of returning has now come around and fans are about to be rewarded for keeping their fingers crossed and their hopes up. "The Missing Peace" track listing:
01. It's All The Same To Me02. Speed03. A Drop Of Bleach04. Sticky Fingers05. Christine06. Baby Gotta Fever07. Kill It Or Die08. Don't Bring A Knife To A Gunfight09. The Flood's The Fault Of The Rain10. The Devil Made Me Do It11. The Missing Peace12. Gave It All Away "'The Missing Peace' is truly an album by definition," said Guns. "It's a collection of music that I have been working on for about twelve years with various styles of rock music. From blues to classical influences, these are all hard-hitting songs. I am very proud of all of the contributions to this album by other members and writers. L.A. GUNS fans are in for a treat."
The last time Lewis and Guns joined forces was back in 2000 with legendary producer Andy Johns for the making of what would become "Waking The Dead". Speaking with Express & Star, Tracii said: "With Phil and I in particular, we have a certain chemistry that's undeniable. And, you know, when you're at your loneliest, you wanna go home, right? So, we both felt like it was time to go home and be comfortable with that undeniable relationship that we have musically. I mean, right away, the first time we got back together and played, you know, it's so obvious, you can't deny it. At some point in your life, you can't deny what's real." Regarding the sound of the new L.A. GUNS material, Tracii said: "Phil's vocal style and his way of writing kind of offsets that balance of the heavy music, that's something that's possibly more mainstream or identifiable, so there's a lot of, you know, kind of typical sleazy L.A. GUNS, high-energy riff rock. There's a little bit of sloppy New Orleans, kind of sweaty, kind of bluesier stuff too. It's a big record." L.A. GUNS' present lineup is rounded out by Shane Fitzgibbon on drums and Johnny Martin on bass with Michael Grant on guitar as a touring member. On the topic of the decision to use the L.A. GUNS moniker for the new album, Guns told LA Weekly: "When you put Phil and I together, that's the sound of L.A. GUNS. There's no way around that. As much as I love certain other [former] members of the band, it's hard to say what their contribution to the overall sound of the band was — but Phil Lewis and Tracii Guns, the band's gotta be L.A. GUNS. It can't be anything else." Back in December, Phil announced that he was leaving the L.A. GUNS version that included drummer Steve Riley. L.A. GUNS 2017 is:

AVENGED SEVENFOLD Releases Cover Version Of THE ROLLING STONES' 'As Tears Go By'AVENGED SEVENFOLD is continuing to expand its latest album, "The Stage", into an evolving body of work by adding a series of new tracks over the course of several months. Today sees the release of the album's latest addition, their rendition of "As Tears Go By", the 1964 song made famous by Marianne Faithfull and later by THE ROLLING STONES. The track follows the recent release of AVENGED SEVENFOLD's version of the Mexican folk song "Malagueña Salerosa", followed by a reimagining of MR. BUNGLE's "Retrovertigo", original track "Dose"; a cover of DEL SHANNON's 1961 No. 1 hit "Runaway", featuring a guest appearance by VANDALS guitarist Warren Fitzgerald and lead vocals by AVENGED SEVENFOLD guitarist Zacky Vengeance; and their version of THE BEACH BOYS' 1966 hit "God Only Knows".
"We love the idea of putting out music in a non-conventional way," AVENGED SEVENFOLD singer M. Shadows told Billboard. "We also love making albums, so this allowed us to do both. This was all put into motion when we made the original recording for 'The Stage', so it all feels cohesive; We put out 'The Stage' and let it sink in for seven months, and now we can add to that piece of work. This way, throughout the cycle you'll be able to hear new music while going back to the original album.
"The idea of turning an album into a living piece of art and adding new installations is really intriguing," he continued. "It expands the journey."
Shadows added that AVENGED SEVENFOLD took inspiration from the way hip-hop and pop artists have taken to surprise and random releases of new material, sometimes with little or no notice, and sometimes simply releasing individual songs not related to any particular album or other project.
"We told all the kids we were going to evolve the record... It was just a matter of how," Shadows said. "Obviously it works in the (pop) mainstream a little better than it does in rock 'n' roll. You look at what Kendrick Lamar or Drake are doing, or any hip-hop or pop act. Their streaming numbers are through the roof. And you look at rock, and they're just not there. But we want to get new stuff out to people. We don't have the answers to all the big questions in the music industry, but we do have control of keeping ourselves artistically satisfied, and this just seemed fun to us."
"The Stage" was released at the end of October 2016 with almost no promotion beforehand.
M. Shadows recently confirmed to Kaytie of the Razor 94.7 radio station that AVENGED SEVENFOLD will embark on a full North American headlining tour in January and February 2018. The trek, which will be announced later this month, was originally "supposed to happen this summer until we got that call from METALLICA, so we decided to put it on hold," the singer explained.

EXODUS To Release First-Ever Guitar Book, 'Pleasures Of The Frets: The Guitar Anthology'San Francisco Bay Area thrash metal legends EXODUS will release their first-ever guitar book, "Pleasures Of The Frets: The Guitar Anthology", on October 17. The book features guitar tab and notations of twelve songs from the EXODUS catalog transcribed note for note from the original recordings by touring guitarist Kragen Lum, with a foreword by EXODUS's guitarist and main songwriter Gary Holt.
When asked Caleb Smith of New Zealand's The Sick Room radio why "Pleasures Of The Frets: The Guitar Anthology" exists in this particular format, Kragen said: "The vast majority of guys and girls who play this kind of music don't have the formal musical education, so they don't know how to write it down, they don't know how to read note for notes and I think some of them don't even know how to read tablature; they just learned from picking up a guitar and taking some lessons maybe earlier on, mostly learning by creating. I know that Gary developed his style on his own and he has a very specific technique and creative library. He doesn't sound like anybody else when he writes the riffs."
Kragen spoke about the process of transcribing the material, explaining: "I was lucky to be able to have the musical education to use my training by just listening. When I started playing with EXODUS and learned all the songs by ear, there were a few parts here and there where the production, especially in the older recordings, aren't quite as good and we're just really difficult exactly pick out what they're playing."
Accoding to Kragen, the most difficult part about transcribing EXODUS's early material was "figuring out the guitar solos. What they played on the album is not what they played live and going back and figuring out exactly note for note was the most challenging thing by far," he said.
Lum said that he was meticulous in his effort to exactly and precisely translate the notes from the individual guitarists of EXODUS who played on the band's albums. "I would send mostly Gary samples, but for the most part I just did it on my own," he said. "I've been fortunate enough to tour with all of the EXODUS guitarists, Rick [Hunolt] played and filled in for Gary before I did. It was cool to have first-hand knowledge watching these guys play and they all have very different styles. Gary, for example, is what I call a 'lick guy', where he's got his 'lick library,' and puts all his licks and solos together. Lee [Altus] kinda tried to compose his solos and is more influenced by classical stuff, as strange as that might sound, and that's how he puts all his stuff together. Rick does a lot of cool blues licks that have a totally different feel and some of the stuff he played was kind of the hardest to figure out. The stuff on 'Bonded By Blood', they were really young and Rick hadn't totally developed his style by that point; [that] was really hard to figure out. Some of the stuff sounded like it was played through a turbine [laughs], but it was really cool to decipher what they were doing."
Regarding what makes "Pleasures Of The Fret: The Guitar Anthology" different to other guitar books, Lum said: "The way the transcriptions are laid out. Most guitar books will have the rhythm and then one staff and then do as few pages as possible and save space in the book for the transcriptions to make it as profitable as possible. My goal was to be able to lay everything out, so that if somebody wanted to play and follow through everything that Gary played in the song, rhythm and solos and whatever, they can read just his staff of music. And the same with Rick and Lee on the different songs those guys did. I even included a third staff just for the harmonies. So it's laid out so people can really dig into what is in the recording and there is no guesswork."
The "Pleasures Of The Fret: The Guitar Anthology" deluxe package includes the print edition plus an exclusive "Pleasures Of The Frets" t-shirt and guitar pick set.
Featured songs:
* A Lesson In Violence* The Ballad Of Leonard And Charles* Blacklist* Blood In Blood Out* Bonded By Blood* Children Of A Worthless God* Fabulous Disaster* Pleasures Of The Flesh* Scar Spangled Banner* Strike Of The Beast* The Toxic Waltz* War Is My Shepherd
The book is available for pre-order right now at the new SubLevel Records online store.
"Pleasures Of The Fret: The Guitar Anthology" has been a labor of love and is "long overdue," said Kragen. "EXODUS should be in the top five of thrash bands, and it was really cool to be able to do something like this." 3

SIGNS OF THE SWARM To Release The Disfigurement Of Existence In November, "Cesspool Of Ignorance" Video Now StreamingPittsburgh death metal squad / recent Unique Leader signees Signs Of The Swarm will release their latest full-length, The Disfigurement Of Existence, on November 3rd. The ten-track offering was mixed and mastered by Phil Pluskota (Abiotic, King Conquer) of Sonic Assult Studios in Cape Corral, Florida, features a guest appearance by Dickie Allen (Abiotic, Bludgeoned Beyond Reason, Infant Annihilator), and comes swathed in the cover art of Par Olaffson (Aborted, Revocation, Immolation).
Offers Signs Of The Swarm vocalist CJ McCreery, "Our first album Senseless Order was mainly to get the point across that we know how to bring the heavy. A lot of the songs were fairly slow and nothing really stood out as far as appealing to anyone more than the standard 'deathcore' fan base. For The Disfigurement Of Existence, we all dove into our own craft and stepped our game up 100% individually to really bring this album together and be more than just a standard 'deathcore' band. We got our new guitarist (Jacob Toy) and drummer (Jimmy Pino) right when we started the writing process for TDOE and immediately realized that all of our minds working together could make an absolutely insane album, and I feel like we accomplished that goal."
"The guitar riffs are way more intricate, Jimmy's drumming is fucking batshit crazy, and I made sure to really step it up vocally and lyrically. An unbelievable amount of work, sweat, and tears -- and probably blood at some point too -- went into this album and we are so excited to finally release it to everyone and show what we are now capable of. We cannot wait to see what the near future holds and are extremely excited to tour new places and meet new fans. The amount of support we got in the last year is so incredibly heartwarming and all of us are blessed beyond words to have such awesome fans and be where we are right now in our careers. A huge thanks to Unique Leader Records for believing in us and having us join the team to make this album possible. We're just getting started."

Norway’s FIGHT THE FIGHT Sign With Blacklight Media / Metal Blade Records; On Tour With SATYRICON This FallBlacklight Media/Metal Blade Records has announced the signing of Norway's Fight The Fight in the US. Fight The Fight's self-titled debut (released digitally in January 2017) is young, fresh and bursting with energy - just as you would expect from a band that has been buzzing around the Norwegian underground for several years. Now, the record will finally see a physical release in the US in early 2018 via Blacklight Media/Metal Blade Records.
Chris Santos (Blacklight Media) comments: "If ever there was a band that hooked me on the first listen, it was Fight The Fight! Fight The Fight seamlessly weave together classic old school riffing with cutting edge grooves and have a knack for making every single song they write not just heavy, but catchy as fuck! To top it off, these guys are natural born total rock stars. The sky is the limit for Fight The Fight and I'm so stoked to take the ride with them!"
Brian Slagel (Metal Blade Records) adds: "Once again my buddy Chris Santos has found an amazing band! We are super excited to have Blacklight Media working with Fight The Fight! Check them out!!"
Erlend Gjerde (Indie Recordings) comments: "We're very excited to partner with the great team at Blacklight Media and Metal Blade for Fight The Fight in North America. Their enthusiasm and dedication to working with us on the band made our decision very easy - Let's do this!"
Barely breaking into their twenties, Fight The Fight has already been a band - though under a different name (Faenskap) - for more than a decade. It's the classic story of childhood friends and schoolmates whose dreams and ambitions run high, and ultimately form a band together. Pushing the whole project to the limit of their capabilities, they succeeded in reaching their goal: creating a record that reflects their vision of what's to come. Not your average album, this mature, well-composed rock/metal grenade immediately explodes with memorable hooks, catchphrases and choruses, and the rock, punk, metal and black metal elements are woven into a unique and progressive sound. With this debut, it is clear that Fight The Fight is destined for great things.
For a preview of Fight The Fight, the video for the title track can be viewed below:
Fight The Fight has played at all the major festivals in Norway, and have toured Europe. European fans can catch the band once again with Satyricon this fall - see below for all dates.

Brooklyn’s PROSTITUTION To Release Egyptian Blue EP In OctoberBrooklyn, New York-based progressive black metallers, Prostitution, are set to release the Egyptian Blue EP on October 10th. The trio of bassist/vocalist Jesse Adelson (Beast Modulus), guitarist/vocalist Russ Cowen (Black Harvest), and drummer Jason Spence (Demilitia) incorporate elements of black metal, thrash, shoe-gaze, and psych-rock, with an accentuation of melodic themes and a strong sense of harmony.
Indeed, the sound produced can oscillate from a harmonically rich torrent of blast beat driven madness to Floydian inspired, delay enveloped bliss in a heartbeat. The groups lyrical content is derived from concepts of deep space, mixed with dark, but humorous take on human condition and human being in general. Prostitution is an example of a heavy band with technical chops that maintains all the heart and a sometimes self-deprecating sense of humor, whilst delivering its brand of chaos with a smile.
Recorded, Mixed, and Mastered by Anthony Lopardo and Raymond Marte at Westfall Recording Company, and featuring additional vocals by Beast Modulus’ Kurt Applegate, Eqyptian Blue features three penetrating epics that cover more ground than most bands do on a full-length album, all the while sucking the listener deeper into Prostitution's blackened eruption of sound.

“Hypergiant”
“The Boat”
“Elevated Droves”

RIVERSIDE Leader Mariusz Duda’s LUNATIC SOUL Streaming New Song “Anymore”Lunatic Soul, the solo project of Riverside leader Mariusz Duda, will release their fifth album, Fractured, on October 6th via Kscope. The album track “Anymore” is available for streaming below.
Mariusz Duda, the architect behind Lunatic Soul, comments: “Lunatic Soul has changed and if I were to describe this music, I’d call it dark melancholic trance with more electronics and more powerful sounds. But there will also be some lyrical fragments, and a couple of tracks will feature a symphonic orchestra I have worked with for the first time in my career. The new Lunatic Soul album will be brave, rich and musically very intense, a beginning of a new style rather than a continuation of the previous releases. I am under the impression that all my music experiences have led me to this place and that it will be one of the best albums I have ever made.
“Although I’m still a conscious prisoner of my own aesthetic, this time you can really hear some differences. My soul and body demanded that I settle accounts with the recent past, piece together what had been scattered, glue up the broken bits, stitch up the tears. Tell a story of how it felt when everything shattered into smithereens.”
Fractured will be released worldwide on Kscope and on Mystic Production in Poland. Pre-order options here.
Tracklisting:
“Blood On The Tightrope”
“Anymore”
“Crumbling Teeth And The Owl Eyes”
“Red Light Escape”

HELL IN THE CLUB Featuring SECRET SPHERE, ELVENKING Members Release “Houston, We’ve Got No Money” Music VideoA video for “Houston, We’ve Got No Money”, a track from the upcoming studio release from Hell In The Club, entitled See You On The Dark Side, is available for streaming below. The album will be released on September 15th.
Beyond a shadow of a doubt, Hell In The Club is a killer hard rock/heavy metal band. Think of a playlist comprised of your favorite ‘80s hard rock bands like Mötley Crüe, Def Leppard, and the like mixed with the cream of the crop of ‘80s heavy metal like Ronnie James Dio, Helloween, and other giants of the era. Now, imagine if all those classic songs started to play over each other and overlap and merge with one another and you’ll start to have a sense of Hell In The Club’s sound. Familiar, yet wholly unique. Riffs, big hooks, catchy choruses, and gang vocals are the order of the day as they mix classic hard rock and modern sounds, heavy metal and party songs, fifties rock’n’roll and anything in between.
Of their new album See You On The Dark Side, lead vocalist Dave says, “The album sounds great, our best production with our most ambitious arrangements to date, but still with a rough and kickin' edge which has been our trademark since the beginning. As usual we've been melting all our inspirations and what we like in music and made a unique blend - pure 100% Hell In The Club - in these 11 tracks that contain a lot of different shades, melodies, power, heavy riffs, big choirs, sweet tunes and also a full swing/jazz orchestra this time!”
Bassist Andy Buratto had this to say about the new video, “We Are On Fire”: “The videoclip of “We Are On Fire“ is dirty, sweaty and powerful. It represents the actual status of Hell In The Club! Flames, Energy and Rock'n'roll. Yes indeed...we are on fire!”
Hell In The Club has staked a serious claim in the European metal scene based on a lot of hard work over the years. They’ve toured extensively in Europe and the UK with the likes of Crashdiet, Jettblack, Crucified Barbara, and appearances at Sonisphere Festival, Basin Fire Fest, Heineken Jammin’ Festival, and more. It should also be noted that Andrea (Andy) Buratto is also a member of Italian progressive metal legends Secret Sphere and vocalist Dave is also the singer for popular folk/power metal band Elvenking.

“We Are On Fire”
“The Phantom Punch”
“Little Toy Soldier”
“I Wanna Swing Like Peter Parker”
“Houston, We’ve Got No Money”
“A Melody, A Memory”

ROBERT DELEO On STONE TEMPLE PILOTS' Future: 'We All Feel We Want To Continue'Robert DeLeo spoke to Billboard about STONE TEMPLE PILOTS' future plans, nearly two years after the passing of the band's original singer, Scott Weiland, and less than two months following the death of Weiland's replacement, Chester Bennington.
"Dean [DeLeo, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS guitarist and Robert's brother] and I are always writing music, whether it's for STP or not," he said. "Hopefully we will find a singer who will be that guy, and represent what we want to do moving forward. I think there's a lot of music to be made, still, and I think we all feel we want to continue — not only that, but also playing songs that we wrote twenty-five, thirty years ago that mean a lot to me, and I think there's people out there who want to hear those songs, too."
Asked when he thinks STP will be back up and running again, Robert said: "When it all comes together, it'll come together. It'll feel right and we'll proceed forward. This is not an overnight decision. This is a series of getting together with someone and really figuring out what they are all about and if that's right for us."
STONE TEMPLE PILOTS last year completed their online open audition submissions for a new singer. Many of the musicians who posted audition tapes also paid tribute to Weiland, who was dismissed in 2013 and who died on his tour bus in December 2015 while on a solo tour. The surviving bandmembers posted on the official STP web site that they had been listening to "thousands" of submissions.
Asked what the process of auditioning new vocalists has been like, Robert told Billboard: "It's been very interesting. You get some interesting scenarios with people. There's been some colorful people, I should say. [Laughs] ... Some of these people, they sing in their bedroom and their mom and dad tell 'em they're great. Then they get into a room with a band that's turned up to ten and expect to lead the band. You can pretty much tell right off the bat that's not happening with certain people. There are a lot of things to look at to really, really choose someone to move forward with."
Bennington ended his time with STP in order to concentrate on his main act, LINKIN PARK, as well as spend more time with his family.
Chester recorded one EP with the band, "High Rise", and did a handful of tours during his tenure.
Bennington died by suicide on July 20. He was 41.
The twenty-fifth-anniversary expanded reissue of STONE TEMPLE PILOTS' debut album, "Core", will be made available on September 29, which is twenty-five years to the day of the LP's original release.

PHILIP ANSELMO Blasts 'False Journalism In The Metal Community' For Suggesting He Is RacistFormer PANTERA frontman Philip Anselmo has blasted "false journalism in the metal community" for suggesting he was racist because a video surfaced of him last year giving the right-arm salute and yelling a white-supremacist slogan at a California concert.
At a January 2016 "Dimebash" event at the Lucky Strike Live in Hollywood in honor of late PANTERA guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, Anselmo performed the PANTERA classic "Walk". As he left the stage, he made a Nazi-style salute. He appeared to say "white power" as he made the gesture, but later claimed he was joking about drinking white wine backstage and was reacting to the audience members up front who he says were taunting him.
In the latest issue of Mass Media Magazine, Anselmo once again addressed the incident, insisting that he was treated unfairly by people who jumped to conclusions without attempting to find out the facts.
"There is false journalism in the metal community, and the result is all knee-jerk reaction," Anselmo said. "Look at this all and what happened. There is no questions asked in the moment. It is just straight to the persection.
"Did anyone ask Phil before you persecuted him? Did anyone ask what caused this? Did anyone [who ended up judging me] ask [for] my side [of the story] at that very moment? No!
"I will explain it again, and perhaps readers can see it from my point of view.
"I am the kind of guy who sits back and watches. I see the world and the factions of the world who are offended, and the offenders who are doing it just for fun.
"I thought I was an individual who would not get caught up in anything, but I put myself into a box that night, you know.
"I am not into identity politics. I am into individuals with strong minds. That is all that fucking matters."
He continued: "To get back to what I was saying… I was at Dime's benefit show last year. This was one of the first ones I had ever done, and from the second I got on stage, I was heckled constantly by a couple of motherfuckers with an agenda. I had warned them several times to stop. You can clearly hear me do this several times, 'cause I had the microphone in my hand. You can hear me say, 'If you call me that one more fuckin' time, I will invite you on this fuckin' stage so I can break your fuckin' jaw!'
"Unfortunately, I showed those kids what they were fuckin' looking for. The scary things, and the ugliness. And ugly it was. I get it. But did I lay a fuckin' finger on anybody? I said what they wanted to hear… and that's on me.
"The outcome wasn't meant to support racism. That is just not me, and those who know me, they know that."
Anselmo also repeated his claim that he identifies with marginalized peoples because he grew up in New Orleans's French Quarter.
"Honestly, I take it all personal, and it pisses me the fuck off," he said. "Yes, it upsets me. Once again, it goes back to my upbringing, where the majority of my city was black. I had black teachers who I adored. They mentored me and made me the person I am today.
"When I am watching videos and people are jumping on this racist bandwagon shit, to me, it is, like, we should be intellectually beyond this shit already. We are holding progress back. It is an unfortunate truth."
Although Anselmo has faced accusations of racism in the past — the singer once lambasted a "Stop Black On Black Crime" t-shirt onstage (he later said he didn't understand what the phrase meant) — he refuses to back down or apologize for his actions.
"I come from the school of boxing, so I stay strong," he told Mass Media Magazine. "Even some of those who piled on after the incident damn well know what I am a regular fucking dude who struggles like everybody else. There is not a perfect person out there.
"I do not set out to upset anyone. I do, more than anything, want to make friends and be cool. I am for getting along and not holding grudges if I don't have to."
In the days following the incident, MACHINE HEAD's Robb Flynn — who played PANTERA songs with Anselmo at "Dimebash" — released an eleven-minute response video in which he denounced Anselmo as a "big bully" and a racist. He concluded by saying that he would never play another PANTERA song again. ANTHRAX's Scott Ian, who is Jewish, released a statement on his official web site saying, "Philip's actions were vile" and invited Anselmo to make a donation to the Simon Wiesenthal Center.
Former PANTERA drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott, who hasn't spoken to Anselmo since the band's split in 2003, was dismissive when asked for a comment on the singer's white-power salute. "I can't speak for him," Vinnie said in a 2016 interview. "He's done a lot of things that tarnish the image of what PANTERA was back then and what it stood for and what it was all about. And it's sad." 6

SATYRICON Frontman Feels 'Pretty Good', Two Years After Being Diagnosed With A Brain TumorVocalist Sigurd "Satyr" Wongraven of Norwegian black metallers SATYRICON says that being diagnosed with a brain tumor back in 2015 made him realize that the band's upcoming album, "Deep Calleth Upon Deep", could be the group's last. "[It] made me think, 'Wow, that's it. I can't do this anymore, I guess,'" he tells Revolver magazine in a new interview. "Even when I found out it wasn't so bad and I could still do this, you never know what's around the next corner. It's important to realize what a privilege it is to make a record."
Although Satyr no longer feels that "Deep Calleth Upon Deep" will be SATYRICON's final album, he admits that "as a human being, you never know. I love playing, and I feel fine," he says. "I'm in good shape and I live a normal life. On the other hand, I had a neurosurgeon say to me, 'Even though you feel fine now, the chances are that you'll get worse and eventually have to have brain surgery. There's always the chance that you could do miraculously much better, but that would be hope more than science.' That kind of message, that sucks. [Laughs] That makes you think, 'Let's have fun while we still can.'"
Asked what his current prognosis is, Satyr said: "Well, I don't have cancer — it's benign — so that's good. It's just not good to have stuff in there that's not supposed to be there. To be honest with you, it's tougher mentally than physically. Let's say my arm starts shaking or something like that — it's not painful, but it's a disturbing experience because you don't understand what's going on with your body. Even if my neurosurgeon has told me that it's very common. You have all these thoughts about, 'What would I do if that happens while I was playing the intro to 'The Pentagram Burns' onstage?' I wouldn't like that. But for the most part, I feel pretty good."
"Deep Calleth Upon Deep" will be released on September 22 via Napalm Records. The disc was recorded in Oslo, Norway and Vancouver, Canada, during early 2017 and mixed together with revered studio guru Mike Fraser, who previously worked on SATYRICON's 2006 album, "Now, Diabolical". 10
