Video: SLAYER, ANTHRAX, MEGADETH, TESTAMENT, Ex-PANTERA Members Perform At 'Metal Masters 5'
Gear Gods — the only online destination for musicians in the heavy music community — live-streamed the fifth annual "Metal Masters" clinic last night (Wednesday, January 22) from the Anaheim, California House Of Blues.
The "Metal Masters 5" lineup was loaded with a star-studded cast of metal musicians. As in years past, the show started with a brief clinic offering some tips and tricks, and ended with an all-star jam session of metal cover songs.
Performers included:
* Kerry King (SLAYER)* Charlie Benante (ANTHRAX)* Frank Bello (ANTHRAX)* Scott Ian (ANTHRAX)* David Ellefson (MEGADETH)* Billy Sheehan (MR. BIG)* Mike Portnoy (DREAM THEATER, THE WINERY DOGS)* Gary Holt (EXODUS, SLAYER)* Chris Broderick (MEGADETH)* Philip Anselmo (PANTERA, DOWN)* Rex Brown (KILL DEVIL HILL, PANTERA, DOWN)* Chuck Billy (TESTAMENT)* Steve Vai
The following songs were performed, among others:
* "Wrathchild" (IRON MAIDEN)* "Killers" (IRON MAIDEN)* "God Of Thunder" (KISS)* "Sargent D And The S.O.D." (STORMTROOPERS OF DEATH)* "Freddy Krueger" (STORMTROOPERS OF DEATH)* "Strength Beyond Strength" (PANTERA)* "I'm Broken" (PANTERA)* "Postmortem" (SLAYER)* "Raining Blood" (SLAYER)* "Mouth For War" (PANTERA)* "Mandatory Suicide" (SLAYER)* "Five Minutes Alone" (PANTERA)* "South Of Heaven" (SLAYER)* "Angel Of Death" (SLAYER)* "Fucking Hostile" (PANTERA)
"'Metal Masters' started out as two bassists teaching a clinic and has gone on to become a spectacle that includes some of the greatest musicians that defined a genre," says Samson's director of marketing and "Metal Masters" founder, Mark Menghi. "What better way to learn, than seeing these amazing performers up close and personal teaching their own personal techniques of the trade. 'Metal Masters' has always been about doing something special for the fans and that will never go away." King previously stated about his motivation for taking part in "Metal Masters": "The reason I still do it to this day is to get Phil involved, because I think the world misses him. He's good at what he does and I'm one of the few guys he looks up to to the point where he'd come out and do it. And I'm not blowing sunshine up my ass; it's just a fact. And everybody wants to see Phil. Everybody loves Phil. When I come out, it's a huge applause. When Phil comes out, it's like somebody came back from the dead; they're not expecting it. And it's cool."
In a recent interview with Full Metal Jackie, Anselmo stated about performing PANTERA songs at "Metal Masters": "I'm up there with guys that I've known since the '80s who have a good five, six years on me of playing music and being successful, people that I looked up to and still look up to… The thing is just being up there with those guys is overwhelming enough, but then playing the PANTERA songs, don't get me wrong, it feels great, it feels fantastic, and it does bring me back to a very powerful place, a very unique place in history. I guess, growing up and cuttin' my chops and growing up with the guys in PANTERA, we always played with a chip on our shoulder and you get that rush of memory when you're up there doing it, but it's a lot of emotions balled up into one, but they're all pretty damn good. For me, the most fun thing about it of all is just seeing the fan reaction. I've always said that PANTERA fans were the best in the world, and I truly meant that and I still mean it. That's why 'Metal Masters' keeps the pulse of the whole thing going."
Speaking to Artisan News prior to the "Metal Masters 4" event in September 2012, Sheehan and the other musicians spoke about what it was like for Billy to come in and play heavier stuff than he is used to.
"I've been prepped," said Sheehan. "And it's great. I actually love it. It's like being on another planet. It's like an adventure into another land, and it's really cool. It's challenging to play this stuff."
Added Bello: "It's great seeing [Billy] come into this world, and step up as he did. I mean, Billy Sheehan is playing [chuckles] he's playing SLAYER and EXODUS tonight — without a pick. Just think about those lines right there. He totally kicks ass in it, too. The guy stepped up to it, and you can't ask for more than that. So for these kids, seeing a treat like that, man, it's a good time."
Said Holt: "[If you had told me that] this guy here [pointing at Billy], who is one of the greatest musicians in rock history, would be standing there watching my fingers as I'm playing [EXODUS's song] 'Piranha', I would havee called you a stone-faced liar and said, 'Get outta here!'"

LOST SOCIETY: 'Terror Hungry' Cover Artwork Unveiled
Finnish thrashers LOST SOCIETY will release their new album, "Terror Hungry", on April 4 via Nuclear Blast Records. Produced by Nino Laurenne (AMORPHIS, ENSIFERUM, LORDI) at Sonic Pump studios (FINNTROLL, SONATA ARCTICA, OMNIUM GATHERUM), the CD sees the "Finns shred their way with the energy and speed of an out-of-control freight train, rolling downhill on the way to thrash Olymp," according to a press release.
The "Terror Hungry" artwork was created by Jan Meininghaus (BOLT THROWER, SICK OF IT ALL, U.D.O., HOLY MOSES).
Comments LOST SOCIETY mastermind Samy Elbanna: "We were totally blown away with the sketch we got, and even more so when we got the final artwork!!
"The cover really fits the theme of the album as it has a more dark feel to it and it's brutal as fuck! The dude holding the bloody machete is definitely terror hungry!
"Jan did an awesome job; this cover is sick!"
Adds Meininghaus: "I was asked to do LOST SOCIETY's new album cover and first of all I had to face the fact that I had to follow their debut album's art that was created by the legendary Ed Repka. One of the true heros of my own thrash-metal days. So I decided to go a different way and create the band's cover idea in a much darker and less cartoony mood than the debut's.
"LOST SOCIETY's musical style and their approach to metal is very '80s Bay Area to me, so I thought it might be fun to paint something that might have been on one of those record covers these days.
"I listened to LOST SOCIETY and my old EXODUS, TESTAMENT and FORBIDDEN vinyls and it was a blast to come up with 'Terror Hungry' artwork!"
"Terror Hungry" track listing: 01. Spurgatory02. Game Over03. Attaxic04. Lethal Pleasure05. Terror Hungry06. Snowroad Blowout07. Tyrant Takeover08. Overdosed Brain09. Thrashed Reality10. F.F.E.11. Brewtal Awakening12. Mosh It Up13. Wasted After Midnight
Bonus:
14. You Can't Stop Rock ‘N' Roll
Comments Samy Elbanna: "LOST SOCIETY is back, and we're angrier than ever!
"The new album, 'Terror Hungry', is a full-on thrash album from start to finish, with a darker and even more aggressive feel to it! It has the signature elements of that make up LOST SOCIETY, and we've put in more groove riffage, more mind-blistering guitar shredding and some of the fastest stuff we've ever done!
"Look out, this ones gonna be FASTER, LOUDER and we're more pissed off than ever!!" LOST SOCIETY's debut album, "Fast Loud Death", entered the official chart in Finland at position No. 25. Released in March 2013 via Nuclear Blast Records, the CD was recorded at Sonic Pump Studios (FINNTROLL, SONATA ARCTICA, OMNIUM GATHERUM) in Helsinki, Finland with producer Nino Laurenne (AMORPHIS, ENSIFERUM, LORDI) and it featured cover artwork by Ed Repka (MEGADETH, DEATH, SANCTUARY, VENOM).
Founded in early 2010 by thrash/speed metal enthusiast Samy Elbanna in the Finnish town of Jyväskylä, LOST SOCIETY played a number of gigs around Finland before taking part in the world-renowned GBOB (Global Battle Of the Bands). After winning the preliminary round in their hometown, they were invited to the finals held in Helsinki, where they prevailed over 13 other contestants. The grand finals of GBOB 2012 took place at The Scala in London on December 9, 2012 and featured 18 bands from all over the world, including LOST SOCIETY.

COLTSBLOOD Signs With CANDLELIGHT RECORDS
Candlelight Records has announced the signing of U.K. monolithic doomsters COLTSBLOOD.
COLTSBLOOD formed in Northern England in 2010 but did not surface until 2013 when a demo tape entitled "Beyond The Lake Of Madness" was recorded and released. Ulthar Records released this demo on vinyl soon after. COLTSBLOOD spent months pillaging the lands, guzzling mead and sharing the stage with many greats within the U.K. underground as well as INDESINENCE, VOMITOR and WATAIN. The band recorded and released another cassette tape, a four-track split with CRYPT LURKER which featured a cover of CELTIC FROST's "Procreation (Of The Wicked)". During this time, the band earned a storm of reviews comparing the music with all genres from funeral doom to black metal and hailing COLTSBLOOD as monolithic, crushing, filthy, bleak, melodic, devastating, other-worldly and horrific.
On the Full Moon of September 2013, COLTSBLOOD entered Skyhammer Studio with Chris Fielding (PRIMORDIAL, WINTERFYLLETH, NAPALM DEATH, ELECTRIC WIZARD) and recorded its first full-length entitled "Into The Unfathomable Abyss" over the sacred Autumnal Equinox. The album was mastered by James Plotkin due to his extensive work with bands such as KHANATE, SUNNO))), INDESINENCE and ISIS. COLTSBLOOD was honored to ask bassist/vocalist and artist Eric C Harrison to create exclusive artwork for the music due to a longtime respect for the band GRIEF. | 0

SONATA ARCTICA: Second 'Pariah's Child' Trailer
Finnish melodic metallers SONATA ARCTICA will release their eighth studio album, "Pariah's Child", on March 28 via Nuclear Blast. The cover artwork for the CD can be seen below.
"Pariah's Child" track listing:
01. The Wolves Die Young02. Running Lights03. Take One Breath04. Cloud Factory05. Blood06. What Did You Do In The War, Dad?07. Half A Marathon Man08. X Marks The Spot09. Love10. Larger Than Life
The second trailer for the album is available below.
Comments SONATA ARCTICA vocalist Tony Kakko: "There are some instant SONATA 'greatest-hits' songs there, which feels good.
"I think we reached the result we had in mind, each of us in our own field.
"We went on to create the next SONATA ARCTICA power metalesque album and I think we achieved it adequately.
"I have to say that I had drifted pretty far away from those 'days of thunder,' that speedy, happy-go-lucky attitude.
"I was happy to notice this style can still make me smile. It's good. Music has to do that to me. It also shows the other older songs in a totally new light for me.
"I can now understand and appreciate why the fans enjoy what we did in the early days."
Regarding the new CD title and cover artwork, Kakko said: "As always, it's pretty hard coming up with a name for the new baby. I tried to approach it from many angles; how this is our eighth album and how easy it would be to abuse that fact. All the symbolism of figure eight, eternity and so on. But that just did not feel right, as it's been done so many times. Then I started to think how we'd in ways abandoned our 'totem animal,' the wolf and all what comes with the territory.
"As the music on the album is bowing more towards the 'old' SONATA, meaning more power metal-style elements and wolves in many of the songs in one form or another, it was clear we need a wolf on the cover. An abandoned wolf. A pariah. Or pariah's child, actually. The new generation to bring the old logo back."
SONATA ARCTICA last August parted ways with bassist Marko Paasikoski and replaced him with Pasi Kauppinen (SILENT VOICES, ex-REQUIEM, WINTERBORN).
The band will launch a European headlining tour in support of "Pariah's Child" on April 10 in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.
SONATA ARTICA's latest album, "Stones Grow Her Name", was released in Europe on May 18, 2012 and in North America on May 22, 2012 via Nuclear Blast Records.
"Stones Grow Her Name" sold around 2,100 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 9 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

VAINAJA Signs With SVART RECORDS
Svart Records has announced the signing of VAINAJA, a three-headed metal band from Finland. Taking influences from early '90s death metal and doom, the group's debut album, "Kadotetut" — set for a spring release — is one of the heaviest records ever made in the Finnish language. Besides the crushing riffs and dark melodies, the album's concept is based on encrypted true events from the past. Not much is known about the events that took place in the 19th century rural Finland. Traditional lore tells of an evil cult inducing chaos among parishioners of old Finnish religions. Evidence of such sinful formation have been gathered from church records and filmographies. Traditionally, only three cultists are scarcely identified. The local preacher Wilhelm, the church cantor Kristian, and the gravedigger Aukusti seem to have been the main malefactors. Adjacent to the local church, these churchmen practiced their own crooked religion in the church cantor's vast mansion. Besides blasphemy, the cult performed sacrificial murder and enslaved villagers to be buried alive. Further evidence of the nefarious activities was recently found among the now ruined cantor's mansion. Up to this date, only little has been known about the cult's actions, since most of their belongings were burned together with the culprits. As a matter of fact, it is known that the cultists were ultimately condemned to be scorched to death upon a church altar. What was found in the ruins has not been revealed until now. Consorted as the main discovery, an incredibly well-preserved book contains sermons written by the preacher Wilhelm. It seems that these twisted chants have led the cult to the series of murder, sacrifice, and conspiracy. The aged texts and hymns are now carefully transcribed in the songs of "Kadotetut", VAINAJA's debut full-length for Svart. The concept album adds unprecedented details to the controversial and encrypted story. | 0

CENTAURUS-A Taps DARKANE Singer LAWRENCE MACKRORY For Second Album
German technical death metallers CENTAURUS-A have recruited Lawrence Mackrory (DARKANE, F.K.Ü., SCARVE) to sing on their second album. The CD is currently being recorded at Dugout Studios in Uppsala, Sweden with producer Daniel Bergstrand (MESHUGGAH, IN FLAMES, DIMMU BORGIR).
Says CENTAURUS-A: "Lawrence is right now recording the vocals and will make it a beast of an album! "We're stoked to have him on board as session singer for the recordings!" Adds Mackrory: "[The new CENTAURUS-A material is] very brutal, very technical and very, very good."
CENTAURUS-A's debut album, "Side Effects Expected", was released in 2009 via Listenable Records. The CD was described as "a collection of rapid and savagely melodic death metal" which was recorded with producer Jacob Hansen (RAUNCHY, INVOCATOR) at Hansen studio in Ribe, Denmark.
CENTAURUS-A got its name from a galaxy. The band said, "It is one of the most interesting and peculiar galaxies in the sky, and is a strong source of radio radiation (therefore the designation Centaurus A); it is actually the nearest radio galaxy. Centaurus A galaxy has swallowed another galaxy similar to ours about 2 billion years ago."
The band was formed in 2000 and released three demos prior to signing with Listenable: "Last Step Line" (2000), "Nimbus" (2001) and "Narcotic" (2003). | 0

INTERVALS: New Song 'The Escape' Available For Streaming
Canadian/U.S. progressive metallers and former instrumentalists INTERVALS have released the song "The Escape", the second single from the band's highly anticipated debut LP, "A Voice Within", due on March 4. Check it out below.
INTERVALS is currently touring Europe with PROTEST THE HERO, TESSERACT and THE SAFETY FIRE.
INTERVALS recently announced the addition of vocalist Mike Semesky to the group's ranks.
Mike's vocals have manifested in many guises over the past few years; most notably on the debut album from U.K. metallers THE HAARP MACHINE, where Rock Sound magazine commented that his performance is one of the album's highlights. Metal Hammer magazine were also huge fans, choosing a track off the record to open their October 2012 "Metal 2.0 – Future Metal" cover-mount CD.
INTERVALS have been making huge waves over the past few years following the release of their debut instrumental EP, "The Space Between", and sophomore EP, "In Time". Viral tracks and numerous tours with the likes of TEXAS IN JULY, NORTHLANE, STRUCTURES, THE KINDRED, THE COLOR MORALE, MISERY SIGNALS and more, have built a devoted fan-base and quickly affirmed the band as serious contenders on the international circuit.
Given INTERVALS' early success as an instrumental outfit, it was a gamble for primary writer/guitarist Aaron Marshall to bring in a full-time vocalist, but it's a move that he feels is absolutely right.
Said Aaron: "We're incredibly excited and proud to announce Mike as the band's singer.
"INTERVALS has always been about open-minded, forward-thinking, progressive music with no boundaries. It's also been about staying true to the art we feel compelled to make, and we couldn't be happier with the dynamic Mike brings to the music.
"For those who remember, the band put out a feeler for a vocalist with the release of 'The Space Between', but in lieu of finding the right candidate, we decided to move forward with our initial intent: Make music.
"Mike joined the band as our bass player, but after only a few weeks of touring, it was apparent that this was the chemistry we were after all along.
"The human voice is an instrument and from our perspective, we are by definition, still an 'instrumental' band, now with added dimension and perspective. The band still retains its identity in guitar-driven, progressive rock/metal and there's something on this record for everyone.
"We couldn't be more thankful for the support you have all shown us over the past few years and we hope you continue to follow along on this journey we share."
Completing the lineup are drummer Anup Sastry (JEFF LOOMIS, SKYHARBOR) and guitarist Lukas Guyader. | 0

MACHINE HEAD Sued By Former Bassist ADAM DUCE
According to Courthouse News, ex-MACHINE HEAD bassist Adam Duce has filed a lawsuit against his former bandmates alleging trademark infringement, breach of partnership agreement and defamation, among other things.
Duce was fired from MACHINE HEAD on February 11, 2013, a few months prior to the band signing a new deal with Nuclear Blast Entertainment. According to Adam, he was expelled from the group "after he put 21 years of his life into it" so as to allow the other bandmembers to make a bigger profit.
"Despite their increase in popularity and touring revenue, plaintiff became concerned with how little income he was receiving, despite the time and hard work put into developing the band," Duce says in the complaint.
Although MACHINE HEAD formed a general partnership and a corporation under which each member owned 25 percent, the band's guitarist/vocalist, Robert Flynn, got a larger portion of the band's income, Duce claims.
MACHINE HEAD's 2009 tour, which included dates with METALLICA, grossed more than $2 million. A 2012 Europe tour grossed more than $3 million, according to the complaint.
"After receiving very little compensation despite the millions the band was bringing in, plaintiff requested and reviewed the records from the tours. Plaintiff found that [the band's manager, co-defendant Joseph W.] Huston, Flynn, and PFM [Provident Financial Management] had squandered money throughout the trip without consulting plaintiff for the vast majority of 'expenses,'" Duce says in the lawsuit.
"Despite their increase in popularity and touring revenue, [Duce] became concerned with how little income he was receiving, despite the time and hard work put in to developing the band," the complaint states.
"Though he expressed these concerns to Flynn, Huston, and PFM, [Duce] was never satisfied with the answers he received."
The complaint adds: "Despite plaintiff's expressed concerns, he was unable to make enough money to live within his modest means. Because of this, when the band was not touring, plaintiff supplemented his income as a licensed real estate appraiser."
The lawsuit goes on to say: "After [guitarist] Ahrue Luster left the band and was replaced by [Phil] Demmel, MACHINE HEAD continued as a partnership in which all four members — [Duce], Flynn, [drummer Dave] McClain, and now Demmel — held equal 25% shares in MH from approximately late 2002 until February 2013.
"While early on, each of the partners had equal rights in the management and conduct of MH business, Flynn, with the help of Huston, began making unilateral decisions without involving the other partners, essentially usurping control of the partnership.
"Despite the fact that Huston received 10% of the band's gross income, he failed to ensure that the members of the band made even close to his 10% cut."
Duce alleges that Nuclear Blast, Flynn and Huston wrongfully and intentionally conspired to expel and then did expel Adam from the band prior to signing the new record deal in an attempt to preclude Duce from enjoying the profits of the new record deal. "As a direct, proximate result of these actions, [Duce] has been damaged in an amount to be proven at trial, but in any event in excess of $800,000," the complaint states.
Flynn wrote about Duce's departure in a "diary entry" on MACHINE HEAD's web site by "directly attacking plaintiff's work ethic," Duce says in the complaint.
"Therein, Flynn stated, inter alia, 'We may have fired Adam on 2-11-13, but Adam quit MACHINE HEAD well over a decade ago. He just never bothered to tell anyone ... but we all knew it.' Flynn went on further in the diary entry, continuing to say about plaintiff, 'No matter how un-happy [sic] or fed up he got, quitting the band would be seen as 'losing' or a 'failure.' Truth be told, he was sick of it. Sick of touring, sick of recording, sick of practicing, sick of looking at album artwork, sick of being-on-a-team-but-never-getting-the-ball, sick of yearning-for-the-honeymoon-to-resume when 20 years deep it never does. Sick of never quite hitting the big-time, sick of carving the niche ... sick of caring.'" (Ellipses in complaint.)
Adam claims that Flynn's "diary entry was libelous per se in that in contained untrue statements made to third parties that tended to harm [Duce] in his reputation and occupation." Duce adds that "Flynn published this diary entry without making a reasonable effort to ascertain the truthfulness of its contents." In addition, "Flynn was not privileged to make such statements in the diary entry. As a direct, proximate result of this diary entry, [Duce] has been damaged in an amount to be proven at trial, but in any event in excess of $1,000,000."
Duce, who still holds interest in the band's partnership and company, claims that no agreement was ever made about his share of future royalties and profits. He says the other bandmembers "simply kicked him out of the band and presumed he would forget about over two decades of hard work, dedication, and effort he put into the Band." Duce also says his likeness is used on the band's web site and in promotions without his authorization.

SCAR SYMMETRY Announces Concept-Album Trilogy 'The Singularity'
Swedish progressive melodic death metallers SCAR SYMMETRY are working on a concept album trilogy, "The Singularity". The first of the three albums, "The Singularity (Phase I: Neohumanity)", will be released later in the year.
Comments SCAR SYMMETRY guitarist Per Nilsson: "Last year, Henrik [Ohlsson, drums] approached me with this super-cool lyrical concept that was so complex and vast in scope that we realized it was a story that couldn't be told in just one album. So, the decision was made: instead of writing a new album, we started working on a trilogy of albums — the most ambitious project of our career.
"In the coming decades, we will see the rise of artificial intelligence and transhumanism. Humanity will build artilects (artificial intellects) with mental capacities far above the human level of thought. By the year 2030, one of the world's biggest industries will be 'artificial brains,' used to control artilects that will be genuinely intelligent and useful. Millions of people will be prepared to spend more money on an artilect than on a car.
"So in about a decade there will be a thriving artificial brain industry, and nearly everyone will have an artilect which will be upgraded every two or three years. Each new artilect generation will be smarter and more useful than the previous generation, so that as the gap between the human intelligence level and the artificial intelligence level gets smaller every year, the species dominance debate will increase.
"There will be those who embrace the new technology and those who oppose it. There will also be those who add artilectual components to their own bodies, aiming to become artilect gods themselves.
"The rise of the artilects and cyborgs will be disruptive to human culture, creating alienation and hatred. Children infused with artilectual nanotechnology and components will become dead to their parents as they see their offspring turn into cyborgs because they are no longer human, but an artilect in human disguise. Those who oppose the cyborgs and artilects will have to strike early in the oncoming conflict or they will be overthrown by the superior artificial species. Add to this the advances in cryonics and cloning where minds can be downloaded and uploaded into eternal physical life and we see a very different reality emerge on earth.
"The singularity is here, technocalypse and cybergeddon emerges!"
Guitarist Jonas Kjellgren left SCAR SYMMETRY in August 2013 "due to scheduling conflicts with his studio work and his other bands — RAUBTIER and BOURBON BOYS."
SCAR SYMMETRY was forced to cancel its fall 2012 North American headlining tour due to visa issues.
The band's's latest album, "The Unseen Empire", sold around 1,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 11 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
"The Unseen Empire" was released on April 15, 2011 in Europe and May 17, 2011 in North America via Nuclear Blast Records.

MAJESTY Part Ways With Bassist Carsten Kettering; Search On For Replacement
German metal legends MAJESTY have announced that bassist Carsten Kettering has left the band, only one year after joining. Carsten was the only member of Majesty who has a regular job besides the band. Due to the immense live and studio activities he now had to accept that the band and his job are not compatible with each other anymore.
Singer Tarek issued the following statement: ”We, as a band, are very sad because of Carsten's departure. Not only because he is a great bass player but also because he's a good friend. However, we of course respect his decision. We played more than 50 shows last year and we want to increase that number in 2014 which is only possible when you can give 100% of your time and strength for the band. Carsten told me that this is not possible with his job besides the band anymore and we respect that. We wish him all the best. Of course now we need a new bass player as soon as possible!”
The band is very thankful to Andi Siegl, who already covered for Carsten on the December shows. But now Majesty is looking for a new bass player who is ready to give all his power and dedication to the band. If you're interested please write an email to info@metalentertainment.de. | 0

CONDITION RED – Remix, Remaster Of Debut Album Now Available
Originally released in 2000, Lars Eric Mattsson has gone back to the master tapes and remixed the sound for a new digital version of the eponymous CONDITION RED debut album which saw release on all leading digital platforms on January 15th.
Condition Red is a progressive rock/metal project originally a dream child of keyboardist Alexander King and guitarist Lars Eric Mattsson. The first album was composed in 1999 and released 2000 and featured a seven-piece band which included guitarist Alex Masi (MASI, MCM) and guest Derek Sherinian (ex-DREAM THEATER, BILLY IDOL) on some blistering keyboard solos. Condition Red mixes progressive metal with hard rock, neoclassical and fusion.
A press release states: “The album contains eight long-form tracks, of which three (‘Bach On The Streets Again’, ‘Lighthouse’, ‘Final Words’) are all instrumental. Complex arrangements with symphonic orchestra and full blast solos from some of today’s greatest musicians are taken to a new level on this concept album. Alex Masi, Derek Sherinian and Lars Eric Mattsson need no further introduction and the newcomers have no problem fitting in.
Condition Red was written in late 1999 and recorded between January and April 2000. The band explored and developed new ground rather than following in the steps of others, and its complicated rhythms and arrangements are not like any other releases that we know of. Ella Grussner's violin and vocals are an essential part of this project, as well as the two amazing keyboardists, Derek Sherinian and newcomer Alexander King.”
Condition Red tracklisting:
‘Calls Out My Name’
‘Judgement Day’
‘Life Is Now’
‘Bach On The Streets’
‘Fly Me High’
‘Lighthouse’
‘Learning To Live’
‘Final Words’

SLASH's New Material Is 'Sleazier, Tougher And More Dangerous' Than 'Apocalyptic Love'
Slash and his solo band, MYLES KENNEDY AND THE CONSPIRATORS, are scheduled to enter the studio in early February to record the third album under the solo Slash banner. The follow-up to 2012's "Apocalyptic Love" is being helmed by producer Michael "Elvis" Baskette, known for his work with Kennedy's other band, ALTER BRIDGE, as well as FALLING IN REVERSE, STORY OF THE YEAR and INCUBUS, to name a few.
Todd Kerns, the bassist and backup vocalist in Slash's band, writes on his blog: "I have to admit that, conceptually, I felt that 'Apocalyptic Love' would be a tough act to follow, but I can say with all the confidence in the world that we are more than armed and ready.
"Not only do I feel that the material surpasses 'Apocalyptic Love', I think we are ten times the band we were when that album was recorded.
"The material on this album is more serious and more fun at the same time, which is a tough balance indeed. The songs are sleazier, tougher and more dangerous. Exactly where I feel most comfortable.
"We are all very excited to unleash the monster upon you as soon as we can.
"We enter the studio early February and will work through the next few months. No plans as to when anything will be finished. It'll be done when it's done. I know we all hope to be back out on the road sooner than later but we'll see.
"Our work with Michael 'Elvis' Baskette has been a blast. He's been a lot of fun to have around and doesn't mind getting his hands dirty within the pre-production process. All of the songs have taken on a new life under his whip. I'm enjoying every minute of this. Our engineer, Jef Moll, is a genius. This is an amazing team.
"Gonna be monstrous!"
The former GUNS N' ROSES and current VELVET REVOLVER axeman began this chapter of his career back in 2010 with his self-titled solo debut. That album was recorded with a number of guest musicians and vocalists, including Kennedy. The latter first joined Slash as his touring vocalist, then became the permanent singer starting with "Apocalyptic Love".
Slash told The Pulse Of Radio that the partnership with Kennedy seemed natural from the start. "We work really well together," he said. "I never really thought about how that's progressing. It's real natural. So it's like any kind of sort of close relationship, where I think we established it really, really early on and now we're just sort of doing our thing, you know. Yeah, I don't know what else to say — it's just a really cool kind of synergy that we've got."
Kennedy and ALTER BRIDGE released their fourth album, "Fortress", last fall and will hit the road in early 2014.
Slash also recently launched a second career as a movie producer, with his Slasher Films production company issuing its first release, called "Nothing Left To Fear", in October 2013.

THE WINERY DOGS To Release Special Edition And Deluxe Edition Of Self-Titled Debut
THE WINERY DOGS — the power trio featuring drummer Mike Portnoy (DREAM THEATER, AVENGED SEVENFOLD, ADRENALINE MOB), legendary bassist Billy Sheehan (MR. BIG, TALAS, DAVID LEE ROTH) and guitarist/vocalist Richie Kotzen (MR. BIG, POISON) — is getting 2014 started with a new round of tour dates and the release of two new special versions of its self-titled debut album.
Set for release in April, "The Winery Dogs Special Edition" will consist of two-CDs. Disc 1 is the standard album and Disc 2 is entitled "Unleashed In Japan 2013", featuring 10 songs recorded live in Japan during the band's July 2013 tour, including "Criminal", a track previously unavailable in the U.S., along with a 16-page booklet of live photos and lyrics. A deluxe package for die-hard fans will be released simultaneously. "Dog Treats: The Winery Dogs Deluxe Special Edition" will be sold in a box resembling a box of dog treats, and will include the "Special Edition" collection of music, a DVD featuring four music videos and interview footage, demos from the original recording sessions, a "studio diary" written by Mike Portnoy, as well as some unique merchandise unavailable elsewhere.
THE WINERY DOGS' self-titled debut album sold around 10,200 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 27 on The Billboard 200 chart. Released in North America on July 23, 2013 via Loud & Proud Records and in Japan on May 15, 2013 via Victor Entertainment, the CD was mixed by Jay Ruston, who has previously worked with ANTHRAX, ADRENALINE MOB, STONE SOUR and STEEL PANTHER.
"Bands like [LED] ZEPPELIN and THE WHO, THE [ROLLING] STONES, and THE BEATLES, CREAM, and [Jimi] Hendrix. I mean, I grew up with that stuff," Portnoy told Voice Of America. "And, although I've been able to pay tribute to it throughout my career with tribute bands and things like that, I've never been in an all-original band that was kind of playing classic rock power trio stuff. That's how I describe this band: just a straight-up rock band."
Regarding the songwriting process for THE WINERY DOGS' album, Portnoy said: "In all cases, the music was the very first element and from there, Richie would start melodies on top of it. Sometimes the final lyrics were there, coming up on the spot, and other times he would take the melodies and write lyrics later. There were a couple of examples of Richie having something and bringing it in. In those cases, like 'Damaged' and 'Regret', we just left them. Because in those two particular cases, the songs were great as they were."
Portnoy was full of praise for his THE WINERY DOGS bandmates, telling Voice Of America: "Billy Sheehan is my favorite bass player on earth and he has been for almost 30 years now. So to work with him and make music with him for me is an honor. And Richie is someone I have the utmost respect for as an artist. I mean, he is just so underappreciated, not only as a guitarist, but as a singer and a writer as well. I think for me, the most exciting aspect of this band is for people to discover Richie that aren't aware of what a musical genius he is." | 0

STRYPER Frontman MICHAEL SWEET: Audio Sample Of 'This Time' Solo Track
Michael Sweet of Christian hard rockers STRYPER will release his new solo album, "I'm Not Your Suicide", on May 6. The 12-song record will be accompanied by the STRYPER frontman's autobiography, "Honestly".
Says Sweet of "I'm Not Your Suicide": "It's an opportunity for me to express myself in new ways, and experiment a little more musically.
"As a writer, I respect all styles of music and although hard rock/metal is where I lay my head, it's cool to be able try different things and reach outside the box.
"STRYPER has a particular style and sound and it's important that we don't venture too far away from that.
"My new solo album has some heavy music on it and at the same time, it also has a little more diversity and different instruments going on which makes it very interesting. I used steel guitar on a few tracks, 12 string guitar here and there, mellotron, live cellos, B3, and all kinds of instruments that you don't or most likely here on a STRYPER album.
"It's exciting for me to be able to go into a studio and have the freedom to incorporate new sounds, techniques and instruments. I also brought in quite a few guest singers and musicians to add to the overall sound of the album. Kevin Max, Electra Mustaine, Tony Harnell, Chris Jericho, Doug Aldrich, Kenny Aronoff, Paul McNamara, Charles Foley, John O'Boyle and Pete Adams all helped to make this album the best solo album to date and a record that I'm most proud of. I look forward to all of you hearing it and I want to thank you all for being friends and fans, solo or not."
A one-and-ahalf-minute audio sample of the song "This Time", which showcases Kevin Max's "amazing" voice and Sweet's THE BEATLES and ELO influence, according to Michael, can be streamed using the audio player below.
"I'm Not Your Suicide" will include the song "The Cause", which Sweet made available for streaming this past September on the twelfth anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center.
Regarding his autobiography, Sweet previously stated: "[The writing process was] much more difficult than I could ever imagine yet it's been somewhat therapeutic being able to talk about my life and the past 30+ years of all things STRYPER." He added: "I get into everything and share things that may surprise you. I talk about the dysfunction in this band, the pain and heartache of being so close to each other that we sometimes hurt each other the most, the ups and downs from our highest point (1987-1988) to our lowest point (1991-1992) and why we were driven to bankruptcy and how we climbed our way back from complete loss and despair. I share my personal pain from considering to give up music altogether to the day I broke the news to the guys that I would be leaving the band and why. From that day forward, I had everything a man could ask for and then, in what seemed like an instant, it was all taken away."

Prosecutors Drop Domestic-Violence Charge Against Former ANTHRAX Guitarist DAN SPITZ
According to GossipExtra.com, prosecutors have dropped a domestic violence charge against former ANTHRAX guitarist Dan Spitz in connection with his Christmas morning arrest in Florida.
Dan's alleged victim, his wife Candi Spitz, asked the Palm Beach County State Attorney's office not to pursue a case against her husband and told them there were minor discrepancies on the incident report.
The 50-year-old musician was arrested at he couple's home in Lake Worth, Florida when Candi's mother called 911 to report he was trying to choke his wife.
"I'm not planning on pursuing this in court," Candi, 38, told GossipExtra.com at the time. "This was a big misunderstanding. My mom should've never called 911."
She added: "[Dan and I] were separated for a week last year, and Christmas Eve was the first anniversary.
"The stress level at home has been astronomical. Our children are both autistic and Dan may have early onset Parkinson's Disease.
"We were all drinking wine, and he just snapped."
According to Candi, the confrontation happened when her husband started packing her bags, and she stood in his way.
"No matter what's in the police report," Candi said, "he never hit me or tried to harm me. He did shove me, and unfortunately I bruised my shoulder.
"But come on: He's 5 feet tall and 100 pounds all wet. And I kick box. He could never harm me if he tried."
Dan Spitz is a born-again Christian and Messianic Jew and in interviews has frequently cited his faith as an influential component to his life.
Spitz took part in the reunion of ANTHRAX's classic lineup in 2005 and 2006 but left the band after ANTHRAX's most recent split with singer Joey Belladonna.

DEF LEPPARD To Release 'Slang Deluxe Edition' Next Month
DEF LEPPARD will release a Deluxe Edition of its 1996 classic album "Slang" across multiple formats through its own Bludgeon Riffola label on February 10.
The "Slang" reissue will be available in three formats: a CD Deluxe Edition and Digital Edition containing the original 11 album tracks remastered and original rare bonus tracks made up of demos, alternate versions and mixes with a series of new songs recorded during the time the band was creating "Slang". Most of these additional bonus tracks have never been released. A special iTunes Digital Edition will have everything from the Digital Edition, plus a further set of additional bonus tracks. A Double Vinyl Deluxe Edition will also be available and will feature the original album, and its own set of exclusive songs. The band will release a special "Slang Video Collection" the same day (February 11) exclusively on iTunes that will feature videos from singles "Slang", "Work It Out" and "All I've Ever Wanted".
"Slang" was first released in May 1996 and is considered the band's most underrated album. At the time of its release, the music industry was at the height of the '90s grunge scene and DEF LEPPARD with bands like NIRVANA, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS and PEARL JAM were dominating the airwaves. Despite this musical shift, "Slang" charted on the Top Five U.K. official chart and the Top 15 in the U.S. on The Billboard 200 chart. The album was also voted in the Top Ten Albums Of 1996 by the U.K.'s prestigious Q magazine.
As a testament to DEF LEPPARD's music transcending through time, "Slang" was recognized for its musical departure from the band's signature sound. The collection incorporated new sonic elements that gave the album a slightly darker introspective mood than their previous releases. As guitarist Phil Collen stated in an interview with Metal Hammer: "We've all got personal things that have happened during the recording of 'Slang', and we've just ploughed on and some of it has come out on the record."

Ex-BLOOD STAIN CHILD Vocalist Recording SEASON OF GHOSTS Debut Album - "It's Going To Be Quite An Experience For People Who Decide To Give It A Chance"
In early October 2013, former BLOOD STAIN CHILD vocalist Sophia launched a new solo project called SEASON OF GHOSTS. She has checked in with the following update:
"I'm recording vocals soon, so I'm working in full speed right now!
Thanks to the intensive rehearsals these days, it became obvious that The Human Paradox is going to be quite an experience for the people who decide to give it a chance. I can safely say that it is for me, even though I was the one who created it.
I put it together piece by piece, so until now I hadn't spared a moment to zoom out and watch the album as an independent entity and now that I do, everything makes sense and everything is falling into place. Although me and Sam have worked on the orchestrations longer than 300 hours, I don't get tired of the songs. On the contrary, they keep growing in me, the words and the images keep coming to life, the songs start developing their own dynamics, it's like I see them walking before my eyes on their own two feet. It's like they're mine, but I'm theirs as well.
A real Season Of Ghosts, isn't it?"
The Human Paradox is due to be released in 2014. It was created, composed and co-produced by Sophia, mixed and mastered by Ettore Rigotti (DISARMONIA MUNDI, PRINCESS GHIBLI, BLOOD STAIN CHILD).
Stay tuned for more details. Check out the official Season Of Ghosts homepage here.
Sophia has posted a cover of 'Sarah's Theme' - created with ZOMBIE SAM - from the '90s Walt Disney film Hocus Pocus via Soundcloud. It is available for free download.

KROKUS Honored For 'Metal Rendez-vous' Album 35 Years After Release
35 years after the release of "Metal Rendez-vous", Swiss hard rockers KROKUS have finally been honored by their record company for sales of around three million copies. The LP is considered the most successful hard rock album in Switzerland of all time.
Says KROKUS singer Marc Storace: "This album awakened the Swiss music scene from their slumber."
Three songs from "Metal Rendez-vous" landed in the U.K. charts, all at the same time ("Heatstrokes" at #1, "Come On" at #12 and "Bedside Radio" at #20), and KROKUS toured the U.S., playing to hundreds of thousands of fans.
"We recorded the album for just 15,000 Swiss Francs [about $15,000]," guitarist Fernando Von Arb recalls.
"We lived in a cellar hole, put everything on one card and had nothing to lose," says bassist Chris von Rohr. "We never would have expected that it would take off as it did. Great thanks to all the fans! "
"Dirty Dynamite", the 17th studio album from KROKUS, entered the German Media Control chart at position No. 17. This marked the first time in KROKUS' history that the band landed in the Top 20 of the German chart.
"Dirty Dynamite" was released on February 22, 2013 in Europe via Sony Music and in North America on March 5, 2013 via The End Records. The CD marked the return of KROKUS guitarist Mandy Meyer after 30 years. Sound engineer for the recording sessions was again Dennis Ward, who also recorded the band's previous album, "Hoodoo".
Drummer Freddy Steady left KROKUS in May 2011 because he "concluded that he really wanted to play music just for fun in small clubs rather than conquering the world, playing arenas on huge stages with pyro props, etc.," according to guitarist Fernando Von Arb.
KROKUS has since recruited Flavio Mezzodi as the band's new drummer.

Ex-MEGADETH Guitarist MARTY FRIEDMAN: New Solo Track 'Steroidhead' Available For Streaming
"Steroidhead", a brand new solo track from guitarist Marty Friedman — whose groundbreaking work with MEGADETH, CACOPHONY and as a solo artist has influenced legions of players around the globe — can be streamed in the YouTube clip below. The song is taken from Friedman's new studio album, "Inferno", which will be released in May via Prosthetic Records.
"Steroidhead" sees Friedman backed by some notable young musicians — Keshav Dhar and Anup Sastry (SKYHARBOR). Friedman says: "I love working with innovative, risky and borderline crazy musicians, and the guys on 'Steroidhead' certainly fit that description.
"Each track on the album has a separate dream team on it, so it feels like a constant barrage of fresh interpretations of my music."
Friedman's first original material in four years, and his first album in more than a decade that will be released simultaneously worldwide, "Inferno" will feature what Friedman feels is the heaviest, most intense playing of his career.
"I'm extremely proud of the work I've done with CACOPHONY and MEGADETH, but I was never interested in stopping there," Friedman said. "'Inferno' is the album that fans of my work with those two bands have always wanted me to make. I've finally made it, and completely on my own maniacal terms."
As Guitar World recently revealed in an exclusive in-studio feature, "Inferno" will include several collaborations with players influenced by Friedman, including Alexi Laiho (CHILDREN OF BODOM), REVOCATION guitar whiz David Davidson and the flamenco/metal acoustic duo RODRIGO Y GABRIELA. In addition, the album includes Friedman's first songwriting collaboration with Jason Becker since the pair played together in the pioneering duo of guitar mayhem CACOPHONY.
"On the guests' songs, each would write a song from scratch, and then I would arrange it and add my parts to it," Friedman said. "That way, we were both invested in it, and it’s a little bit of a deeper experience than just banging out a guest solo."
Make no mistake, though — "Inferno" is unquestionably a Marty Friedman album, and one he plans to tour behind extensively (including his first U.S. performances since 2003). Furthermore, it features what Friedman told Guitar World is "the most intense writing and playing I can do," with the goal of "go(ing) completely ape-shit and smok(ing) everything else I've ever done."
"I wanted to create a new landmark to which my future music will be compared," Friedman said. "That idea of just going completely balls-out — knowing what the full potential of my music and my playing could possibly be, and actually making it a reality — was what drove me through the whole process."
Just as he changed the game in the worlds of metal and guitar once before with his revered solo debut "Dragon's Kiss", Friedman now raises the bar to a new level for a new generation with "Inferno".

PANTERA: 'Far Beyond Driven: 20th Anniversary Edition' To Arrive In March
PANTERA reached a major milestone in 1994 when the legendary metal band's seventh studio album, "Far Beyond Driven", debuted at NO. 1 on The Billboard 200, becoming the fastest-selling album of the group's career and its second consecutive platinum release. Not only a commercial success, the album also earned positive reviews around the world for the beautiful brutality of its all-out sonic assault.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of that landmark album and Rhino is celebrating with a special two-disc version that includes a newly remastered version of the album, along with a live performance from the 1994 Monsters Of Rock festival. "Far Beyond Driven: 20th Anniversary Edition" will be available on March 25 for a suggested list price of $18.98. A digital version will also be available.
Following the breakthrough success of 1992's "Vulgar Display Of Power" — which has since been certified double platinum — singer Philip Anselmo, guitarist Darrell "Dimebag" Abbott, bassist Rex Brown and drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott returned in March 1994 with "Far Beyond Driven". Following its No. 1 debut, "Far Beyond Driven" remained on the Billboard album chart for seven more months and many still regard it as the heaviest album to ever top the chart. Its 12 tracks represented a continuation of the previous album's relentless musical onslaught with hard-hitting tracks like the first single "I'm Broken" as well as the mosh-pit classics "5 Minutes Alone" and "Slaughtered". Another standout track was the group's swirling acoustic cover of BLACK SABBATH's "Planet Caravan", which became a live favorite when PANTERA hit the road to support the album later that year.
Fans already familiar with "Far Beyond Driven" are in for a treat with the second disc of the "20th Anniversary Edition". Dubbed "Far Beyond Bootleg - Live From Donington '94", the disc contains PANTERA full live set recorded at the Monsters Of Rock festival in Donington, England on June 4, 1994. The 40-minute show comprises nine tracks taken from the band's three most recent albums including: "Use My Third Arm" and "Strength Beyond Strength" from "Far Beyond Driven"; "Walk", "Mouth For War" and "This Love" off "Vulgar Display Of Power"; plus the title track from "Cowboys From Hell" as well as the live staple melding "Domination" and "Hollow".
"Far Beyond Driven: 20th Anniversary Edition" track listing:
Disc One - Original Album Remastered
01. Strength Beyond Strength02. Becoming03. 5 Minutes Alone04. I'm Broken05. Good Friends And A Bottle Of Pills06. Hard Lines, Sunken Cheeks07. Slaughtered08. 25 Years09. Shedding Skin10. Use My Third Arm11. Throes Of Rejection12. Planet Caravan
Disc Two – "Far Beyond Bootleg - Live From Donington '94"
01. Use My Third Arm02. Walk03. Strength Beyond Strength04. Domination/Hollow05. Slaughtered06. Fucking Hostile07. This Love08. Mouth For War09. Cowboys From Hell
Anselmo recently chatted about "Far Beyond Driven" with Artisan News saying, "Considering its contents, it is the heaviest record to come in at No. 1."
Anselmo went on to discuss the band's success saying, "The chemistry within PANTERA... In the early days, they were very guarded about what I said here and there. And then, finally, by 'Vulgar Display Of Power', it was, like, 'Just let me handle the lyrics.' And then by 'Far Beyond Driven', I was saying anything I fucking wanted to fucking really fucking sing about, man."

L.G. PETROV-Led Version Of ENTOMBED Becomes ENTOMBED A.D.
"Back To The Front", the album that was recorded last year by four members of the most recent lineup of the legendary Swedish metal act ENTOMBED — Lars Göran Petrov (vocals), Olle Dahlstedt (drums), Nico Elgstrand (guitar) and Victor Brandt (bass) — will be released this coming spring via Century Media Records under the band name ENTOMBED A.D.
Petrov will only perform with ENTOMBED A.D. and will not take part in any upcoming shows announced under the name ENTOMBED.
Original ENTOMBED members Alex Hellid (guitar) and Ulf "Uffe" Cederlund (guitar) will join forces with former ENTOMBED frontman Orvar Säfström to perform the band's classic second album, "Clandestine" (1991), on February 1 at Gävle Konserthus in Gävle, Sweden. They will be backed by the 65-piece Gävle Symphonic Orchestra and a 40-piece choir.
ENTOMBED previously performed "Clandestine" in its entirety with the Nordic Chamber Orchestra on April 12, 2013 at Tonhallen in Sundsvall, Sweden.
Hellid did not participate in the writing and recording of "Back To The Front".
Century Media Records announced last fall that the release date of "Back To The Front" — which was originally supposed to be made available under the ENTOMBED moniker — was being pushed back to early 2014 from the previously announced October 29, 2013 due to "unpredictable technical problems."
Asked in an interview with France's MetalChroniques.fr if the omission of Hellid's name from the ENTOMBED biography accompanying a promotional copy of "Back To The Front" was a mistake on the record label's part, Petrov replied: "I do not want to speak publicly about this at the moment; this is something we want to keep internal and private for now. But this is not an error in the biography. Next question?"
Hellid did not accompany the Petrov-fronted lineup of ENTOMBED when the band performed at the Manizales Grita Rock festival in Colombia in August 2013.
"Back To The Front" was recorded at Studio Bohus (ABBA, EUROPE) in Kungälv, Sweden with producer Roberto Laghi (IN FLAMES, HARDCORE SUPERSTAR). The cover artwork was painted by Zbigniew Bielak (WATAIN, VADER) and can be seen below.
A press release states: "Don't be afraid that it will sound like ABBA — it's 666% true to the ENTOMBED everybody loves. While not falling for total regression back to the early classics 'Left Hand Path' or 'Clandestine', expect a total bone-crushing opus that will have fans of 'Wolverine Blues', 'To Ride…' or 'Morning Star' cry tears of joy. From the morbid, pissed-off lyrics over detuned, massive riffs to the inimitable brick-heavy groove and L.G. Petrov's titanic roar, 'Back To The Front' has it all, so get ready for a stone-cold stunner!"
"Back To The Front" track listing:
01. Kill To Live02. Bedlam Strike03. The Underminer04. Second To None05. Allegiance06. Waiting For Death07. Eternal Woe08. Digitus Medius09. Vulture And The Traitor10. Pandemic Rage11. Soldier Of No Fortune
