BLACK SABBATH: Video Footage Of Birmingham Concert
Fan-filmed video footage of BLACK SABBATH's December 22 concert at National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England can be seen below.
The band's setlist was as follows:
01. War Pigs 02. Into The Void 03. Under The Sun / Every Day Comes And Goes 04. Snowblind 05. Age Of Reason 06. Black Sabbath 07. Behind The Wall Of Sleep 08. N.I.B. 09. End Of The Beginning 10. Fairies Wear Boots 11. Rat Salad 12. Tommy Clufetos Drum Solo13. Iron Man 14. God Is Dead? 15. Dirty Women 16. Children Of The Grave
Encore:
17. Paranoid
According to The Pulse Of Radio, BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi is not sure if making a follow-up to this year's reunion album, "13", would be a good idea for the group. Iommi said in Revolver magazine, "I don't know if that would be an anticlimax if we wrote another album. I'd like to, but we haven't actually spoken about it, you know? I don't know if that would be a good idea after this one, because this one's done so well. I'm sure we'd all like to do one. But I don't know. Maybe I should talk to the others about it." Bassist Geezer Butler added, "I really haven't thought about it. I'm just glad that we made this one. It can't be something where you go in and go, 'Well, that one was No. 1, so let's do another No. 1 album.' I think we'll know if we can do it or if we can't. If we have to force it, then we won't be doing it."
"13", the first SABBATH album in 35 years to feature Iommi, Butler and singer Ozzy Osbourne recording together, went No. 1 around the world, earning the band their first chart-topper ever in the U.S.
Ozzy said about the prospects of making another record, "I don't want to say there's going to be another album, because I don't want you to ask me in another year, 'What happened when you said you were going to do another record?' I'll leave it open. I'm open for anything. I have three albums to deliver of my own solo thing to my record label."
Ozzy added, "We'll all still be doing music. It's been a lot of fun doing it with BLACK SABBATH, and I'm not sorry at all for getting back together."
The making of "13" was marked by several dramatic events, including drummer Bill Ward's withdrawal from the project over a contractual dispute and Iommi's cancer diagnosis.
Butler told Revolver that he started writing a song for "13", called "Hanging By A Thread", that was inspired by Iommi's illness. He explained, "It was very much about dying, about giving your last breath and passing your spirit on." But the track didn't make it onto the album because, Butler said, "We never came up with the finished thing."
BLACK SABBATH will return to North America in 2014 for 10 shows that will be among the last in support of "13". | 0

DARK FORTRESS Complete Recording Sessions For New Album
Black metal visionaries DARK FORTRESS have issued an update in regards to their upcoming album and follow up to their 2010 masterpiece, Ylem.
Guitarist V Santura states: "The recording sessions for the upcoming (still untitled) new album are finished successfully! I would dare to say that these were the most intense recording sessions in the history of Dark Fortress. We put weeks of extremely hard work into this to get as close as possible to what we consider perfection.
Towards the end of the recordings we spent some crazy 14 hours shifts to get every detail and emotion recorded the way we envisioned it. Still, we needed just a few days longer than initially planned, and those few days were missing when I started doing the final mix for the album. After three days into mixing I realized that I only had the choice of either giving away a mix which is not satisfactory or to miss our deadline and push the album release backwards. I never considered this first option a real option, though. We put so much effort into the whole creative process and the recordings that it would be a cardinal sin to spoil this with a half-assed mix.
By now I already have other highly important obligations (recording the new TRIPTYKON album), so we all decided it would be best to give ourselves a short break and to finish the mix later this winter. This, unfortunately, means the new album won't be out in early 2014 as initially planned, so everything is postponed for a few months. But that way I can promise that you will get to hear the best album possible!"
Updates to follow. More on Dark Fortress at Facebook.

WIZARD Bassist Volker Leson Leaves Band Due To Health Issues; Arnd Ratering Announced As Replacement
German true metallers WIZARD check in with the following band lineup announcement:
"Wizard had no lineup changes for the 25 years of existence, the band always been like a family... Now, with a great sadness, we need to inform you, that Volker Leson (bass) is forced to stop his activity in Wizard due to health issues.
This was already suggested during second part of the the German Metal Attack Tour, on which he couldn't be present. He will remain part of the Wizard family forever, and if his health will allow him, he will continue writing songs for the band. We also hope he will be able to return to the ranks of the band on stage within a year or two.
For now, we would like to introduce you to our old friend Arnd Ratering - ex member of the prog band NO INNER LIMITS - as the new bass player of Wizard.
Fans already had an occasion to see him on stage during the last few shows we did, and surely can agree he is technically a great musician. We are looking forward to bringing you more metal, and we can't wait to play next shows for all of you! We also wish all the best to our brother Volker: may he return with health and strength!"
Wizard's current album, Trail Of Death, was released on September 27th via Massacre Records, and is available as CD, limited edition LP and digital download.

THY ART IS MURDER: 2013 Video Roundup
A 2013 video roundup with Australia's hottest new extreme metal export THY ART IS MURDER can be seen below.
THY ART IS MURDER's second album, "Hate", was released in the U.S. on April 2 and in Europe on April 5 via Nuclear Blast Entertainment, the new U.S. partnership between Nuclear Blast owner Markus Staiger and former Roadrunner Records A&R chief Monte Conner. The CD was produced and mixed by Will Putney (SUICIDE SILENCE, BORN OF OSIRIS, FOR TODAY), with artwork created by Brent Elliot White (CARNIFEX, DEATH ANGEL).
"Hate" came in at No. 35 on Australia's Top 40 ARIA chart, making it the highest debut of any Aussie death metal band ever.
THY ART IS MURDER recently completed a North American headlining tour. Joining them on the trek, dubbed "Hate Across America", were I DECLARE WAR, FIT FOR AN AUTOPSY, THE LAST TEN SECONDS OF LIFE and KUBLAI KHAN.
Rising from the unhallowed wastes of Western Sydney, THY ART IS MURDER has carved a trail of bloody mayhem since their inception in 2006. With an acclaimed EP and debut album in "Infinite Death" and "The Adversary" to their name, the band have traversed the highways and autobahns of Australia and Europe on a relentless crusade to destroy every venue and audience they can with like-minded peers in a who's who of heavy metal.
Simply titled "Hate", the band's second full-length is the pointed result of THY ART IS MURDER's growing dissatisfaction with all aspects of modern life — political, religious, social and environmental — everyone is to blame.
Fusing the blasting technicality of metal luminaries THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER with thunderous breakdowns and the intensity born of their nascent hometown scene; the blackened grandeur of BEHEMOTH and the pit-churning groove of Tampa originators MORBID ANGEL and CANNIBAL CORPSE, the furious musical arrangements provide a bloody canvas for vocalist CJ McMahon's outpourings of bile. | 0

Vermont’s BARISHI Release Debut Album

Barishi tracklisting:
‘Sky Burial’
‘Holy Mountain’
‘The Rider’

CATTLE DECAPITATION Working On New Material
San Diego-based deathgrind masters CATTLE DECAPITATION have begun the writing process for the follow-up to 2012's "Monolith Of Inhumanity", tentatively due in early 2015 via Metal Blade Records.
Says vocalist Travis Ryan: "Since we got home from the Summer Slaughter Tour, the guys have been hard at work on new material! I actually go in next week to grab a quick runthrough of the first new track they have completed so I can start writing lyrics to it.
"I have heard the track and I hate to say anything just yet because we will be spending the next full year from now working on the next album, but I will say the stuff they're working on is intense. I can't wait to start writing lyrics to it and so far is in league with one of our current musical aspirations… to make fans of our last record shit themselves!
"We'll be taking a small break to play a few shows in our region with EYEHATEGOD and our friends STRONG INTENTION on their January tour!"
"Monolith Of Inhumanity" sold around 2,400 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 6 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.
Released on May 8, 2012, "Monolith Of Inhumanity" was produced by Dave Otero of Denver's Flatline Audio and sees the band exploring innovative new techniques in songwriting without abandoning their signature formula of confrontational audio wreckage and self-loathing lyrical content.
CATTLE DECAPITATION is:

TERROR EMPIRE Announce New Drummer
Portuguese thrashers TERROR EMPIRE have announced João Dourado as the new drummer for the band. João has played for bands such as ANTICHTHON and EXISTENCE:VØID, both from Coimbra (Portugal). He’s also become a record producer, having been responsible for the tight sound displayed on DESTROYER OF ALL’s Into The Fire. Terror Empire has been rehearsing and creating new songs since late October, and the chemistry is great.
“When the band invited me to fill in for two gigs, it was easy enough to become a member of the family. When you start playing this fast pacing brutality, you kind of want to stick around. Once the Terror grows on you, and you cannot leave the Empire anymore. I believe I can help Terror Empire reach the next level, and release a killer sophomore record… new seeds grow on Terror Empire, the new album is gonna be killer! Hope the fans will provide me the support we all need and show up at our next gigs. May we spread the Terror and share our hopes and dreams through music.” - João Dourado
The band will be playing some of the new tunes on the next shows. These shall be the last of the Face The Tour run, there won’t be live terror until the new album’s release, in early 2014.

VAN HALEN - Unreleased Dave TV Video Footage From 1986 Released
According to the VAN HALEN News Desk, David Lee Roth has just uploaded newly recorded commentary for Dave TV, his collection of videos and interviews released in 1986. The new commentary, which can be viewed below, was not included on his new Greatest Hits/The Deluxe Edition (CD+DVD) released last month by Rhino. While that collection has the full, original Dave TV special as part of the DVD, it does not include the additional audio commentary featured here.
Roth had wanted the official release to include an audio track with his commentary, but Rhino vetoed it due to explicit language. | 0

Italy’s OMNIVORE To Release Debut In February
Unspeakable Axe Records has announced the release of the self-titled debut from Italian death/thrashers OMNIVORE. Like their name suggests, Omnivore are equal-opportunity devourers. Their raging full-length shows that they clearly consumed old death/thrash acts from Europe and the US - think MASSACRA, MERCILESS, and SADUS - as well as the more-familiar Bay Area bands, represented here by the use of gang vocals, some melodic lead parts, and even a startlingly well-played acoustic passage. Of course, one of their biggest influences is revealed by the hidden bonus track at the end, a cover song that implores you to "Arise!"
Album track ‘Omnivore’:
Hailing from Varese and spawned in 2011 from the ashes of NIGHTMARE OF FALLEN, Omnivore is already a project on hold. The band's lone album (so far at least) is going to burn down villages and consume the fleeing villagers. Omnivore is due for release via CD format on February 18th on Unspeakable Axe Records.

MEGADETH's DAVE MUSTAINE: 'I Never Thought I'd Be Doing This This Long'
Samuel J. Fell of New Zealand's Stuff.co.nz recently conducted an interview with MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
On revisiting MEGADETH's classic 1992 LP, "Countdown To Extinction", for the recently released live version of the album, recorded last December at Los Angeles' Fox Theatre:
"It was fun.
"When you're listening to one of your records, and people have said something like, 'This is a classic' or something, you immediately, and I don't know how to say this without sounding like I'm having a hard time saying it, because I'm having a hard time saying it, but when people say stuff like that, a lot of times it's hard not to come off sounding like you know that.
"But we knew when we were making 'Countdown', we just knew we were in the middle of making a good record."
On MEGADETH's longevity:
"Time flies, 30 years seems like a long time, but boy, it's over so quick. Sometimes I sit back and think how many things have happened over the years, and I guess the thing that makes me feel the best is when I see how many people who'll say, 'We met at a concert,' 'We got engaged at a concert,' 'We got pregnant at a concert,' all these things that they share. These landmarks, these mementoes, they're really cool.
"I never thought I'd be doing this this long, [MEGADETH bassist] David Ellefson and I; it's crazy. And the fact we can have fun doing what we do, on top of that, just makes it so much more enjoyable."

CULT OF LUNA – “We Are Not Quitting”
Sweden’s CULT OF LUNA has checked in with the following:
“We are not quitting. 2013 have been a very active year for us and neither do we want or think it is good to continue in that pace. We will not be a band that put out an album every 18-24 months anymore. We did that for almost 10 years when we were younger and were able to focus more on the music.
After Beyond The Redshift we might do a festival or two but after that we have nothing planned.
Maybe we'll release another album next year or maybe in a decade, we honestly don't know. Sooner or later we will return in one form or another. Cult of Luna will not die.
On another note, sooner or later we will go through our inbox and email. You will be answered.”
Cult Of Luna’s Vertikal is up for a nomination at the P3 Guld Awards in Sweden for Rock/Metal Of The Year.
P3 Guld 2014 will take place January 18 at the Scandinavium in Gothenburg. There are two types of tickets; standing room for 395 crowns, and seating for 460 crowns. The ticket also includes entry (subject to availability) to the P3 Gold club night after the gala on January 18. Club Evening will take around Trädgår'n in Gothenburg. To gain access to the club night, you must be at least 18 years old.

NECROPHAGIA Release 'The Wicked' Single; Free Download Available
US-based death metallers NECROPHAGIA have released a new single, 'The Wicked'. The song was written and recorded in August of 2013.
Says the band: "It is not going to be featured on WhiteWorm Cathedral. It is an exclusive FREE download. It's our way of saying thanks for the years of support. The delay of WhiteWorm Cathedral is not something we expected. It is no way the fault of the band or our record label Season Of Mist... We completed the basic tracks in November 2012. It's been sitting and collecting coffin rot at James Murphy's studio for almost a year. Broken promises and missed deadlines galore. We are not waiting any longer for James to finish it. We have started rec-recording WhiteWorm Cathedra". Crank this up. We will see you on tour very soon. Gore Forever!"

TRENCHROT To Release 'Necronomic Warfare' In February
Death metal war machine TRENCHROT will unleash its debut album, "Necronomic Warfare", on February 18 via Unspeakable Axe Records.
With influences ranging from other war-themed bands like ASPHYX and BOLT THROWER, to the vomitous vocals and epic, soaring lead work of OBITUARY's "Cause Of Death", this is an old-school death metal album that doesn't feel self-conscious about being what it is. It just crushes everything in its path, and leaves the bloodied listener staggering away... and grinning ear to ear.
Members of TRENCHROT are in other promising new bands, such as CRYPT SERMON — whose first demo will see a cassette release from Dark Descent Records soon — and INFILTRATOR, and promise to soon be well-known names in the underground.
Check out album cut "Sickening Devotion" below.

WINTERSTORM Reveal Cathyron Album Details
On February 7th, German power metallers WINTERSTORM will release their new album, Cathyron, via NoiseArt Records. Only some weeks later they will embark on a tour with VAN CANTO.
Their goal is to enthral their fans with their passionate music. They want to contribute a new sound to the metal scene, which not only inspires inveterate metal fans. It soon became clear that exactly the right people had met after years of experience with other projects to assault the hall of fame of Metal together.
In the songs of Winterstorm there is always a distinct melody in the foreground, which is reflected in catchy choruses, a variety of instrumental tunes and manifold part singing. Distinctive elements of various styles of Metal are amalgamated and given a new interpretation. Elements of power, Viking and folk are combined with elements of the Middle Ages and epic metal, which together appear in a new splendour. This makes up an explosive mix, which goes down well with younger and older fans. A musical mix, which not only appeals to metal fans but to anyone really! This record is way more epic and varied than anything they did before; they have created a new world in which the listener can dive and escape into.
Compositions are done by Armin Haas, who has worked for movie soundtracks and video games and who also does orchestral arrangements in other metal bands such as Van Canto for instance.
Another new element in Cathyron are the conceptual lyrics and the story behind the album, that create a brand new world. Fitting the power and fantasy metal spectrum, the lyrics are about the fight between good and evil, and how the hero called Teron operates in the world Cathyron to achieve victory over all Evil. A tale known to most by movies such as Lord of the Rings.
The cover artwork was done by guitarist Michael Liewald who has done all of the band's front covers so far. The album was recorded in fall 2013 by Armin Haas, drum recordings were done by Stephan Ernst (J.B.O., FIDDLER'S GREEN, FREEDOM CALL). Mix and master by Thomas Geiger, who also works with the likes of BLIND GUARDIAN, HELLOWEEN and CHARLIE BAUERFEIND.
