SIXX:A.M. - New Album Nearing Completion: "We Have Topped Ourselves"
Nikki Sixx, MÖTLEY CRÜE / SIXX:A.M. bassist and host of the syndicated radio show Sixx Sense, has issued the following update on the forthcoming Sixx:A.M. album:
"James has been with DJ in Vegas recording guitars on the new Sixx:A.M. album. We have a little ways to go to finish off the whole album but we're zeroing in on what the first single will be. It's not gonna be easy. I am so proud of this album from the ground up. These songs are very unique. James, DJ and myself feel we have topped ourselves but in the end you will be the ones who make that decision.
We have agreed on the album title and the artwork direction. Photo sessions, videos, going over album cover concepts and mapping out release dates are all hovering above our heads now. The excitement is growing and things looks great for us to play live at some point."
Sixx recently issued the following message to the fans:
"As an artist, I have really been riding a creative high lately. In the end I believe I was put on earth to create (anything and everything). I feel like I am in my zone lately. It's not easy to keep it up day after day, month after month and year after year but you soldier on. Eventually, if you've fallen out of your groove, you always find your way back home and if you focus hard enough on what you want to achieve, you will be even better at it than you were before. I see a lot of young artist's flame out so fast and I have to say the biggest secret to long term success (in any field) is to just keep doing it over and over and don't give up. Never quit. The crazy-makers and the naysayers will do there best to drag you down but only if YOU let them. 'Use them as motivation.'
So much exciting stuff coming up for Motley Crue, Sixx:A.M, Sixx Sense Radio and the Heroin Diaries broadway play.
It's all about forward progress and not perfection, just keep keeping on. I like to use Facebook and other social media outlets to connect us on a more human level, share my feelings, thoughts and update you in real time on whats happening.I like how you all do the same with me. Yes, I read as many posts as I can (time allowing) so thank you.
Positive thinking is the breeding ground for a positive life. Change your head and your life will follow......"

OBITUARY To Record New Album In November
David E. Gehlke of DeadRhetoric.com recently conducted an interview with singer John Tardy of Florida death metal veterans OBITUARY. A few excerpts from the chat follow below.
DeadRhetoric.com: What was the tipping point in terms of you doing something like this? Your relationship was Roadrunner wasn't always so rosy, but with Candlelight you were a priority, at least.
John Tardy: Yeah, we thought about it back then. It was one of those things where we talk about it and talk about [it], but don't really do anything. When it came time to get an album done, we were always like, "Okay, let's sign." Obviously, because of those contracts we signed with Roadrunner early on, that music is just gone. I couldn't print up a copy of "Slowly We Rot" if I wanted to and start selling them. That's a sad thing. And to think back then as teenagers signing those contracts, we had no idea to ask attorneys to look them over to see that it was a pretty standard contract. Come to find that signing something away from an entire lifetime doesn't seem "standard" to me. But, those days are gone and we've learned a lot from that, so, the stuff we did with Candlelight was all licensing, so that music comes back to us. That was a good thing that we got the music back and were in control. Two different things. Candlelight could have done a lot more — I don't think they had enough albums pressed when the first album [2007's "Xecutioner's Return"] came out. When it got to the stores, there was one copy per store, and they were gone. If you're lucky enough to get the kids to go down the store, that's one thing, it's another if you get them to go and it's not in the store so they have to wait a month, so by that time, they could download it. A lot of things have changed from when we first started to now. We could take the master from the ten grand that I was talking about, and we could do a digital-only release, then you don't have to do anything. Then it really doesn't cost you anything — that's not what we really want to do. We've been talking with Century Media a lot. They're really cool dudes and seem interested in working with us on any level, which is cool. If we could get some backing and get some cash in our pocket, we could do a lot more with this record. If we fall a little short, and need help to get some kind of distribution deal or help with pressing or something like that, we could probably get a much better deal for ourselves and maintain control of the record. Then we could get someone like Century Media to help with us on the marketing end because it seems like they have a really long reach.
DeadRhetoric.com: From the sounds of it, you will be working with Century Media in some form for the upcoming album? Is that correct?
Tardy: It is. We've talked to them a lot the last couple years, even for them to do the album. When we told them the initial plan to do the album by ourselves, they offered to work with us on any level we wanted them to. Those guys are really cool. Any time you see a metal band on Century Media, they usually give them a pretty good shot in marketing. We'll see. We're working hard to get funding one way or the other and the Kickstarter was a really good start.
DeadRhetoric.com: What's the progress on the new album?
Tardy: We really are — which is why we went ahead and started with that campaign — we're going to have the master done in December. We'll be recording in November. Most of the songs are done now; we only have a couple more to put together. We want to get about 13 songs ready; have 12 for the CD and have one in the wings to do something as a bonus. So we have the bulk of those things done; there's probably five, six, seven of them that are nearly complete, and another three or four where the structure is really there, we have some filling in to do. There's a couple more we have to put together. We're doing our best and we're trying to get them all done. Before we jam them, we want to give ourselves a month of just playing them time and time again, getting the feel for them and really feeling them out to make changes. That way, it gives you some flexibility to make changes, so the more you hear them, the more flexibility you have to make changes. That's where we're at. We hope to finish writing soon. Be done recording in November, mixing in December, and bam, have the thing out next year, and get the campaign started in January.

SAMMY HAGAR Wanted JAMES HETFIELD To Guest On 'Friends' Album
Sammy Hagar will release a star-studded solo set on September 24, called "Sammy Hagar & Friends". Among the high-profile guest performers and/or writers are Hagar's CHICKENFOOT bandmates Michael Anthony, Chad Smith, and Joe Satriani, along with Kid Rock, Ronnie Dunn, JOURNEY's Neal Schon, HEART's Nancy Wilson and various members of MONTROSE. The album will feature covers of BOB SEGER's "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man" and DEPECHE MODE's "Personal Jesus".
Asked in a brand new interview with RollingStone.com if he was able to get every guest musician that he wanted, Hagar said: I didn't really want to say this, but I'm completely honest: James Hetfield [METALLICA] is a dear friend and we hang out in Hawaii a lot. Kid Rock did the duet on 'Knockdown Dragout', which he recorded for me instantly. I would've just as soon had James Hetfield do it, but I ran into Kid, because I did that Detroit show with him, and we were communicating about other stuff and about his tour, so I just spontaneously asked him to sing on the track. And, boom, it got done. After he finished it, I thought that I would get James to sing just the 'Knockdown! Dragout!' part. I sent it to him and told him Kid Rock was on there and the whole thing, and he got back to me and said, quote-unquote, 'I'm completely flattered that you would want my sailor-assed voice on your record.' And then he said, ' . . . but it isn't my style.' And I said, 'It's OK. I still love you, James.'"
He added: "James has become just such a great frontman. He's really powerful, and he doesn't bullshit. He's not up there doing cheap shit to become a good frontman, like I do. I'll use a stupid line like, 'Are we having any fun yet?' just to get a reaction. And I know how to say something right before you end a song, so the band ends it and you get a big giant cheer because of something I said, and it sounds like they loved the song. I know all them little old veteran tricks. James doesn't even use that shit and he's still got charisma up the ass. He's really strong, man.
"I really wanted him on there, but it doesn't fit. I was cheating by sending him that song, because if he would've heard the whole album — if a METALLICA fan would've heard this album and bought it because he was on there, they would be pissed off. This isn't a METALLICA record, you know? But he's my friend, and I would've loved to have had him on it."

AVENGED SEVENFOLD: Trailer For 'Hail To The King' Animated Series
AVENGED SEVENFOLD singer M. Shadows has posted the following message on the band's official web site:
"Dear friends, I wanted to start off by thanking those of you who came out to the three shows we did this weekend. We had a great time getting out of the studio and preparing for our 'Hail To The King' album release. We are excited about the 27th and we hope you all are as well.
"The reason I'm writing this is to shed some light on a few things we will be doing this fall besides touring and promoting 'Hail To The King'. First, I would like to let you all know that for the past 18 months we have been writing and developing an iOS / Android-based mobile AVENGED SEVENFOLD game.
"Without revealing too much, I will just say that it is an action-adventure game. It has been written and developed by the band and with our friends in Subscience Studios. It's turning out awesome. We can't wait to show you more when it's ready.
"What we can show you though is a trailer for the new 'Hail To The King' animated series that we and our friends at Machinima have been working on. The game and the series will go hand in hand with each other. We hope you enjoy them both, because I know we have had a great time developing them."
AVENGED SEVENFOLD has continued its ongoing relationship with game publisher Activision by contributing a song to the final pack of downloadable content for the wildly successful game Call Of Duty: Black Ops II. The final content pack, called Apocalypse, will be available on the Xbox Live online entertainment network from Microsoft on August 27. Among its features will be a Zombies experience called "Origins", which will include the brand new AVENGED SEVENFOLD track "Shepherd Of Fire" from the band's upcoming album "Hail To The King".
"Hail To The King", AVENGED SEVENFOLD's sixth album and the follow-up to 2010's chart-topping "Nightmare", is out on August 27.
AVENGED SEVENFOLD will begin a fall headlining North American tour on October 3 in Chicago, concluding on October 26 in Las Vegas. Support on the road trip will come from DEFTONES and GHOST.

CULT OF LUNA To Release 'Vertikal II' In September
Indie Recordings has set a September 21 release date (September 24 in Germany, Austria and Norway) for "Vertikal II" from Sweden's CULT OF LUNA. The four-track effort contains over 36 minutes of music.
"'Vertikal II' is the continuation of our journey into the harshness of the monotone city landscape," commented CULT OF LUNA's Johannes Persson. "The songs were written during the 'Vertikal' session and we always intended them to be released close to the album. Justin Broadrick's (GODFLESH) remix was not a part of the original plan but since it came out phenomenally good we thought that it would fit perfectly as closer of the whole 'Vertikal' project. With 'Vertikal II', we complete and end a chapter that, for the last few years, has been a big part of our lives. Now we leave the inner city and look up into the vast void above."
"Vertikal" marked a much-anticipated return for CULT OF LUNA after five years spent cultivating the ideas and directing the influences that have helped form a concept for the album. Distilled throughout are themes of machinery, repetition and clear, linear structures honed to the visual imagery of Fritz Lang's classic expressionist science-fiction film "Metropolis". The music broods, builds and boils as you may expect from CULT OF LUNA, but never overcomplicates itself or veers from its intentions; it is arguably their finest and most cohesive piece of work to date.
The CD version of "Vertikal II" comes in a limited digipak, with three new songs plus a remix of "Vacarious Redemption" by Justin K. Broadrick. The total running time is over 36 minutes.
"Vertikal II" CD track listing:
01. Oro
02. Light Chaser
03. Shun The Mask
04. Vicarious Redemption (remix by Justin K. Broadrick)
The vinyl version is limited to 1000 copies with die-cut sleeve, different cover artwork and several different vinyl colors
"Vertikal II" 12" EP/mini-LP track listing:
Side A:
01. Oro
02. Light Chaser
Side B:
01. Shun The Mask

GUNS N' ROSES, Ex-NEW YORK DOLLS Members Record New THE COMPULSIONS Album
New York City rockers THE COMPULSIONS continue to hole up in the studio as they record the follow-up to 2011's critically acclaimed album "Beat The Devil". Songtitles set to appear on the as-yet-untitled CD include "Hellbound Babies", "Silly Li'l Woman" and "House Of Rock", the latter of which was inspired by shuttered New York nightclub Don Hill's.
Comments THE COMPULSIONS frontman Rob Carlyle: "Like our other records, there'll be plenty of dirty rock 'n' roll on this new one plus a few musical twists and turns to keep you guessing. You'll hear all kinds of influences: funk, punk, blues, rockabilly and this time around, there's even a little Indian flavor on there."
In addition to Carlyle, THE COMPULSIONS feature Richard Fortus on guitar and Frank Ferrer on drums, both from GUNS N' ROSES, as well as Sami Yaffa of HANOI ROCKS and NEW YORK DOLLS fame on bass. | 0 | |

THOUGHT CHAMBER: New Song 'Transcend' Available For Streaming
American progressive metallers THOUGHT CHAMBER will release their second album, "Psykerion", on September 16 in Europe and on October 1 in North America via InsideOut Music. The follow-up to 2007's "Angular Perceptions" contains 16 tracks and 64 minutes of superb true progressive metal with a technical sci-fi twist, likely to appeal to fans of DREAM THEATER, YES, RUSH and PLANET X. The album's cover artwork, which can be seen below, was designed by John E. Holland of MistyMountainGraphics.com. The album was recorded in various locations between 2012 and 2013 and finally mixed and mastered by Tom Size (Y&T, AEROSMITH, MR. BIG, ENCHANT) at Tomland Studios in Pacheco, California.
The song " Transcend" from "Psykerion" can be streamed in the YouTUbe clip below.
In addition to guitarist and composer Michael Harris and vocalist Ted Leonard (also in ENCHANT, SPOCK'S BEARD and AFFECTOR), THOUGHT CHAMBER includes Bill Jenkins (also in ENCHANT) on keyboards, Jeff Plant on bass and Mike Haid on drums.
Comments Harris: "We're all very excited about finally releasing 'Psykerion'. A lot of changes have occurred in the band since our first record. Beyond Ted and I, we now have Mike Haid on drums, Jeff Plant on bass and Bill Jenkins on keyboards, who all did a stellar job and are all great guys on top of that, so our chemistry is perfect.
"'Psykerion' is a concept record — a sci-fi human drama — musically yielding everything from prog-metal to jazz-fusion to acoustic."

Ted Leonard - Lead vocals
Michael Harris - Guitar, keyboards, Harmony Vocals
Jeff Plant - Bass
Bill Jenkins - Keyboards
Mike Haid - Drums | 0 | |

TODD LA TORRE-Fronted Version Of QUEENSRŸCHE
An official video clip of the Todd La Torre-fronted version of QUEENSRŸCHE performing the song "Queen Of The Reich" on the 2013 Monsters Of Rock cruise on March 18 can be seen below. The audio for the clip, which was filmed and edited by Dave "Ravage" Stabley and Chris Golden, is taken from the deluxe version of the band's latest, self-titled album.
"Queensrÿche" sold around 13,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 23 on The Billboard 200 chart. The record arrived in stores on June 25 via Century Media Records.
"Frequency Unknown", the latest album from the Geoff Tate-fronted version of QUEENSRŸCHE, opened with around 5,500 units to debut at No. 82.
"Queensrÿche" marks the debut release from the lineup comprised of Todd La Torre (vocals; ex-CRIMSON GLORY), Michael Wilton (guitar), Parker Lundgren (guitar), Eddie Jackson (bass) and Scott Rockenfield (drums). The drums for the album were recorded at London Bridge Studios in Seattle, Washington with producer James "Jimbo" Barton — the man who engineered and mixed the band's classic 1988 LP, "Operation: Mindcrime", and its 1990 follow-up, "Empire", and co-produced 1994's "Promised Land". The rest of the music and vocals were laid down at several different facilities on the West Coast. The cover artwork was created by Craig Howell, who has previously worked on designs for "Star Wars", SLIPKNOT and "American Idol", to name a few.
