TODD LA TORRE-Fronted Version Of QUEENSRŸCHE: Self-Titled Album Cracks U.S. Top 25
The new self-titled album from the Todd La Torre-fronted version of QUEENSRŸCHE, sold around 13,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 23 on The Billboard 200 chart. The record arrived in stores on June 25 via Century Media Records.
"Frequency Unknown", the latest album from the Geoff Tate-fronted version of QUEENSRŸCHE, opened with around 5,500 units to debut at No. 82.
QUEENSRŸCHE's 2011 studio CD, "Dedicated To Chaos", registered a first-week tally of around 8,000 to enter the chart at No. 70. The band's 2009 effort, the epic concept album "American Soldier", premiered with 21,000 copies to debut at No. 25. This was roughly half the first-week tally registered by QUEENSRŸCHE's "Operation: Mindcrime II" album, which shifted 44,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release back in April 2006 to land at No. 14 on The Billboard 200 chart.
QUEENSRŸCHE's 2003 effort, "Tribe", sold 20,000 copies in the first week while 1999's "Q2K", opened with sales of 28,000.
QUEENSRŸCHE's top-selling album by far is 1990's "Empire", which was certified triple-platinum in October 1994 for sales in excess of three million copies in the United States. The original "Operation: Mindcrime" release (1988) attained platinum status in August 1991, while 1994's "Promised Land" reached the same plateau in December 1994.
"Queensrÿche" marks the debut release from the lineup comprised of La Torre (vocals; ex-CRIMSON GLORY), Michael Wilton (guitar), Parker Lundgren (guitar), Eddie Jackson (bass) and Scott Rockenfield (drums). The drums for the album were recorded at London Bridge Studios in Seattle, Washington with producer James "Jimbo" Barton — the man who engineered and mixed the band's classic 1988 LP, "Operation: Mindcrime", and its 1990 follow-up, "Empire", and co-produced 1994's "Promised Land". The rest of the music and vocals were laid down at several different facilities on the West Coast. The cover artwork was created by Craig Howell, who has previously worked on designs for "Star Wars", SLIPKNOT and "American Idol", to name a few.
"Queensrÿche" track listing:
01. X2
02. Where Dreams Go To Die
03. Spore
04. In This Light
05. Redemption
06. Vindication
07. Midnight Lullaby
08. A World Without
09. Don't Look Back
10. Fallout
11. Open Road
Asked which album in QUEENSRŸCHE's catalog would most closely compare to what the band is doing now, drummer Scott Rockenfield told "Noize In The Attic": "Our big goal was, once we kind of made our transition last year and moved on as a band, and Todd being in the band, and our focus of the live shows and everything, it's always kind of been about looking at what really made QUEENSRŸCHE special. And for the live show, it's the old stuff. And we've been focusing a lot, in the show, doing that, for the last year, and we're continue to focus on doing that. On the record, I think the vein of what the record is a combination of all that great old stuff that we're kind of known best for. I mean, for me, I kind of summarize it by saying, to me, it's everything from the [debut] EP up to 'Empire', or maybe even 'Promised Land' at that point, which is, to me, the most defining catalog that we've ever done. And I think for this record, it's visiting that and taking that into the future."
Added guitarist Michael Wilton: "I also think that when you hear this record, each song is gonna be unique in its own. For people that have heard the single that's on YouTube called 'Redemption'. Everybody's asking, 'Is the album gonna sound just like that?' And I can say, 'No.' What's great about this record is that every individual here was in the creative process and the writing — there was no outside writers, like [there were] on the last few albums. And it really shows, and it's a real great blend of everybody's strength and their creative elements, and the songs are definitely reflective of the personalities of this band right now."
Continued Scott: "I think that's important. Especially what Michael was saying. I think the focus of that earlier stuff, there was a massive chemistry between all of us that really worked, and we wanted to find that chemistry again, 'cause we've, unfortunately, had to struggle with that the last few years. But we always knew that that's what we wanted to do, so now that we're able to do that, finding that chemistry and that energy that got us to make those records is what that energy now is in this record. And Michael's right: the songs, there's a great variety of things in it, but they're all QUEENSRŸCHE, they're all us doing it, it's our chemistry of working together."
Said Michael: "If you listen to all the other albums, like from 'Promised Land' back to the EP, you're gonna hear all these dynamics, from song after another song — you're gonna hear those dynamics, and that's the same sort of approach we wanted to take on this new one."

AMON AMARTH's 'Deceiver Of The Gods' Cracks U.S. Top 20
"Deceiver Of The Gods", the ninth studio album from Swedish death metallers AMON AMARTH, sold around 17,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 19 on The Billboard 200 chart. The record arrived in stores on June 25 via Metal Blade Records.
AMON AMARTH's 2011 CD, "Surtur Rising", opened with around 15,000 units to debut at No. 34. The band's 2008 album, "Twilight Of The Thunder God", registered a first-week tally of more than 11,000 copies to enter the chart at No. 48.

ATTILA: 'About That Life' First-Week Sales Revealed
"About That Life", the new album from Atlanta's favorite party moshers ATTILA, sold more than 14,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 22 on The Billboard 200 chart. The record arrived in stores on June 25 via Artery Recordings/Razor & Tie.
ATTILA formed in 2005, storming their way onto the metal scene in recent years. They've quickly and deservedly earned a reputation as a good time, "party metal" band. They've developed into an international sensation known for their crushing, explosive live shows.
ATTILA have honed their live chops by remaining on the road in near-nonstop fashion over the last two years, performing with heavyweights such as ASKING ALEXANDRIA, AS I LAY DYING, ALESANA, A SKYLIT DRIVE, IWRESTLEDABEARONCE, SUICIDE SILENCE and more, all the while holding their own.
As frontman Chris "Fronz" Fronzak puts it: "All we want is for the listener to have a fun experience, and that is the main message behind our music."
ATTILA's last album, 2011's "Outlawed", landed at No. 7 on the Billboard Independent Chart; at No. 8 on the Hard Music Chart; and at No. 87 on the Top 200 Chart. The band has sold more than 50,000 albums to date via Artery/Razor & Tie. | 0 | |

AUGUST BURNS RED's 'Rescue & Restore' Lands In U.S. Top 10
"Rescue & Restore", the fifth album from the Manheim, Pennsylvania-based quintet AUGUST BURNS RED, sold nearly 26,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 9 on The Billboard 200 chart. The record arrived in stores on June 25 via Solid State Records.
The new effort, described by guitarist and principal songwriter JB Brubaker as the band’s "most ambitious album yet," turns a critical eye to the oft-maligned genre of metalcore, leading by example to prove that bands can still find exciting new ways to expand the genre.
"'Rescue & Restore' is about challenging other bands and ourselves, as well as fans of this music, to want more than whatever happens to be the current buzz," explains Brubaker.
"We've done our best with each new album to try to push our sound in new directions and we’d like to see our peers do the same.
"People need to realize that there’s not much of a difference between a metalcore song that has a couple breakdowns with a repeating chorus and the latest LADY GAGA song. This genre used to be better than that. It can still be better than that."
Throughout the album, AUGUST BURNS RED continue to do their part to challenge the conventions of heavy music. Over the course of 11 tracks, the band artfully blend piano, cello, violin, trumpet, various percussive elements and more into their sonic arsenal, taking their music into new aesthetic territory and contorting the boundaries of the genre.
With "Rescue & Restore", AUGUST BURNS RED have proven that it is possible to reshape music in a way that challenges listeners, reinvigorates fans and puts art first. But for any fans who fear AUGUST BURNS RED turning their back on the sound that catapulted them to the forefront of a genre, Brubaker advises them not to worry.
"At the end of the day, we are still a very heavy band," he explains. "'Rescue & Restore' still has plenty of really heavy stuff, techy odd meter riffs, and all the stuff that people have come to expect from us; it just has a lot more surprises along the way."
"Rescue & Restore" track listing:
01. Provisions
02. Treatment
03. Spirit Breaker
04. Count It All As Lost
05. Sincerity
06. Creative Captivity
07. Fault Line
08. Beauty In Tragedy
09. Animals
10. Echoes
11. The First Step

Hailing from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, DAMIEN DEADSON fuses progressive metal with powerful, groove-oriented riffs. Along with a virtuosic blend of crushing guitars, syncopated drums and raw emotional vocals, DAMIEN DEADSON has a firm grasp on the power in mood setting in Helm's playing and the honesty in his delivery.

THE ANSWER To Release 'Spectacular' Single In August
Downpatrick, Northern Ireland-based rockers THE ANSWER are set to return in 2013 with a new single, 'Spectacular', available in August and followed by a new studio album, New Horizon, on October 1st in North America/September 30th in Europe.
Keeping the beacon of Irish rock music well and truly alight, The Answer have consistently delivered commercial, and critically acclaimed albums. The band have toured the world extensively, proving themselves to be an incendiary live act - spending almost two years as main support to AC/DC and playing to over 2 million people, performing festivals across the globe and also supporting the likes of THE ROLLING STONES, WHITESNAKE and WOLFMOTHER as well as countless headline tours.
Since their third studio album in late 2011, the band instigated a major shakeup in their circumstances and with new management, live booking agents and with new record label on board, late 2012 saw them enter the studio with ex-LITTLE ANGELS vocalist Toby Jepson at the production helm. The new record, New Horizon, will be their fourth studio album and with mixes from rock icon Mike Fraser (AC/DC, METALLICA), it will be released on September 30th through label Napalm Records GmbH in multiple formats soon to be announced.
To shorten the anticipatory wait for the upcoming album, The Answer are making available the single, 'Spectacular' which features an exclusive radio mix of the song as well as an acoustic version of the album title track 'New Horizon', available on 7" vinyl and an acoustic version of the song 'Speak Now' available on the digital release.
Fans have the chance to purchase a rare and strictly limited vinyl single of 'Spectacular', released as a Sky Blue Vinyl 7" and a Green Vinyl 7", both exclusively available at this location.. You don't want to miss this great edition and soon to be a highly sought after collectible. If you are not fortunate enough to get one, you can obtain the single digitally through all of the major digital vendors.
The band were also honoured and privileged that the late Storm Thorgerson and his team designed the artwork for the new album / single and Storm was working on the album cover design just before his sad passing.
In a statement released by Storm Studios, they said: "Never one for looking back or resting on his laurels Storm always got a thrill from working with young bands and from the idea of 'newness' in general. In his last few months Storm and the Storm Studios team threw ourselves wholeheartedly into many new projects and New Horizon was one of the last covers we designed together. As is our usual modus operandi, we interrogated the band at length about their music and lives, and listened to the album on repeat for a month. Our final designs were submitted to The Answer very shortly before Storm died. The image itself came from our thoughts about endings and new beginnings, very poignant for all concerned."
The quartet consists of Cormac Neeson (vocals), Paul Mahon (guitar), Micky Waters (bass) and James Heatley (drums) and their UK tour will kick off in Belfast on October 11th. Australian band TRACER will perform as very special guests on the UK mainland run in what promises to be one of the finest rock tours at the end of 2013.

FIND ME Launch Video For 'Road To Nowhere'
Frontiers Records recently announced the release of the FIND ME album, Wings Of Love, on August 24th in Europe and August 27th in North America. The video for the album track 'Road To Nowhere' has been launched.
Find Me sees the collaboration between singer Robbie LaBlanc from BLANC FACES together with Swedish producer and musician Daniel Flores (THE MURDER OF MY SWEET, MIND’S EYE). It all started when Frontiers Records President Serafino Perugino, in his relentless quest for the perfect melodic rock album envisioned this trans-Atlantic alliance based on the mutual recognition for each other’s abilities.
During 2011 Daniel started to work hard to seek and write the right songs which could create THE monster album! He knew from the beginning what was needed: rocking guitars, but fresh and spacious melodies where Robbie’s vocal abilities could shine overall. Some Swedish mates, such as Sören Kronqvist (CRASH THE SYSTEM, SUNSTORM) and Erik Mårtensson (ECLIPSE, W.E.T., JIMI JAMISON) immediately answered the call, but strong contributions also came also from now regular Frontiers songwriters such as Alessandro Del Vecchio (HARDLINE) and brothers Tom and James Martin (VEGA, Sunstorm), together with Issa and Mikey Wilson.
“It's so amazing that this was born out of the imagination of music visionary Serafino onto Robbie and me, pouring our heart outs onto 12 amazing songs” says Daniel Flores. “This has been a labour of carefully chosen songs, hand picked musicians, live recording, carefully balanced arrangements and state of the art sound quality that showcases all musicians at the top of their game. This was how the giants recorded the great AOR records and so this is our love letter to that era we all grew up listening to!”
Robbie LaBlanc adds: “I remember listening to the demos and thinking, WOW, these are great songs, great players, and great lead vocals! I was very moved and driven to give everything I could to the songs. When I got the good news from Serafino and Daniel they loved it, I was happy and relieved at the same time. I admire all of the song writers, musicians, and demo singers that made this project what it turned out to be. I hope everyone digs it !”
Each song was expertly crafted bearing in mind Robbie’s vocal style and Daniel’s production abilities, added to the amazing performances from Daniel Palmqvist (XORIGIN) on guitar and Johnny Trobro on bass and fretless, create a massive musical result guaranteed to excite all the melodic rock fans.
“Take JOURNEY's lesson from recent great albums like Revelation and Arrival, add it to some cool FOREIGNER and DEF LEPPARD-ish and modern Swedish AOR and you’ll get the idea of how Find Me is sounding”, concludes Daniel Flores. Robbie says: “We are seriously going to be behind this, it’s just too good to be believed”.
Wings Of Love tracklisting:
'Road To Nowhere'
'Another World'
'Dancing To A Broken Heartbeat'
'Eternally'
'Firefight'
'On The Outside'
'One Soul'
'Powerless'
'Bottom Of My Heart'
'Unbreakable'

ARCEYE Release ‘I Silently Wait’ Lyric Video
UK death thrashers ARCEYE released an official lyric video. ‘I Silently Wait’ is the first real taste of At First Light, the second full length from Arceye and follow up to the debut The Divide Between Chaos & Order. At First Light will be released worldwide on August 7th via Hostile Media.
Commenting on the album the band said: “This album we feel we have really trimmed the fat on our songwriting and made it the best it could be! If we didn’t think that it kicked ass it didn’t make the cut! We also stepped up the production value, recording the drums In Foel studios and working with Scott Atkins (SYLOSIS, CRADLE OF FILTH, AMON AMARTH, GAMMA BOMB) on the mix and master. The Meaning of At First Light is a representation of where we felt we were as a band when we were writing the album. Since our last release we have gained two new members, both with a writing influence and we’ve developed more of a vision of the music we wanted to play.”
In recent weeks the band posted videos documenting the writing and recording process behind At First Light which can be viewed below:

I am looking forward to the upcoming shows and projects of the band and to help them to fulfill their musical ambitions."
The whole band wants to wish Alex Palma, who could not play with Majesty anymore due to family commitments, all the best for his future.

DICHOTOMY To Release Debut Album In August
Irish tech death outfit DICHOTOMY will release Paradigms, the band's debut album, this August 14th. The album will be available physically as well as for digital download.
The five piece melodic tech-death metal band hailing from Dublin, Ireland draw influences from bands such as DEATH, NECROPHAGIST, GOJIRA and OPETH and was formed in 2010 by guitarists Andy Kealy and Rats with a mind to combine the technicality of death metal with the groove and musicality of other genres. After establishing a lineup in 2010 the band began writing material under the name Dichotomy to suitably describe the contrasting styles used in the music. Summer 2012 bore the fruits of their hard labor as the band took up residence at the world renowned Westland Studios in Dublin to record Paradigms with producer Alwyn Walker.
"Paradigms (are) about a multiple of things." comments lead guitarist Steven 'Rats' Rahaman. "The five of us wanted to get together and write music that we would be happy to listen to ourselves. We all individually have a varied taste in music and style so the music we created had allot of contrast so the name Dichotomy was chosen. The lyrics themselves in Paradigms create a collection of dichotomies. So in a nutshell you could say that Paradigms is about the band name which is about the music."
Check out an album teaser below:
Paradigms tracklisting:
‘Empyrean’
‘The Sentient Oppressed’
‘All-Seeing Eye’
‘Polarity’
‘No Catharsis’

AEROSMITH Singer To Undergo Knee Surgery
AEROSMITH singer Steven Tyler has revealed to RollingStone.com that he will undergo knee surgery later this year. "My knee is giving out," he says. "I had ACL reconstructions, and in November I'm getting knee replacement surgery. It'll take me about three or four months to recover . . . I've had so many operations on my knees and feet that just to be standing is a miracle. But to turn around and do one of my spins where I don't fall, that's the shit! But hey, all these years have taken their toll on me."
During a recent interview with Billboard.com, Tyler spoke about his plans to record his long-in-the-making solo album, hopefully for release in 2014 and including possible collaborations with Johnny Depp and Elton John, among others.
"I'm just doing a solo record 'cause I think it's fuckin' kinky to go write a song with Johnny Depp," said Tyler. "I think it's fuckin' ridiculous to go write a bunch of songs I started five years ago and never finished. It feeds my passion. I like traveling all over the place and writing songs and seeing what we catch. It's kind of like driftnetting for songs, right. But, no, the band's not breaking up. Me doing a solo record doesn't mean the band isn't working on a record — but I get that in the press one has to hear that from one lead singer of one AEROSMITH."
The singer told RollingStone.com that he's "itching" to do a solo project.
"That's what I'm gonna do next," Tyler said. "I've got some great people that want to get involved in it. It's early on right now, but that's the itch I got. I got that itch to do something that's a lot different than AEROSMITH."
He added: "My heart is in stuff like that weirder, off-the-cuff stuff that I'm not sure AEROSMITH would like. I'm into electronica — I was when I used to listen to Stockhausen in '65. So there's just a lot of stuff — good, weird fucking music that I want to get off my chest."
Tyler also revealed that he's talked with EDM master Deadmau5 about collaborating with him on the solo record. He also said he's a fan of dubstep king Skrillex. "I really want to take a little risk here," he said.

MOTÖRHEAD's LEMMY: 'We Will Be Back' To 'Kick Everybody's Ass'
MOTÖRHEAD frontman Lemmy Kilmister says that it was a "tough decision" to cancel the remaining eight shows on the group's European festival tour due to his recent health struggles, but assures fans that he and his bandmates will be be back to "kick everybody's ass."
Lemmy suffered a haematoma (where blood collects outside of a blood vessel) last month, forcing the band to scrap a handful of dates. The news of Lemmy's latest medical issue followed reports that he was also recently fitted with a defibrillator because of heart problems.
In an official statement, MOTÖRHEAD said: "MOTÖRHEAD deeply regret to disappoint all fans this summer. The band decided to cancel the summer shows. Doctors strongly advised that Lemmy needs to take his time to get his body back in balance. To achieve this, the doctor and Lemmy agreed that it would be best to take it easy for a while. While saying this, we can assure that the fall tour will be as explosive, loud and incredible as ever."
Added Lemmy: "I'd like to thank everyone who wish me well. It was a tough decision for me as I don't like to disappoint the fans, especially in times where economy is bad and people spent their money to see us. But sometimes you can't do anything else than following doctor's order, but be sure we will be back and kick everybody's ass."
Speaking to the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet, MOTÖRHEAD drummer Mikkey Dee revealed that a little over a week ago Kilmister suffered a "nasty" fall and landed on his hip.
Following his fall, Lemmy had more bad luck when a fire alarm went off at the hotel Royal Kensington in London where he was staying.
"He had to walk eight stairs in the middle of the night," Mikkey said. "Lemmy's personal assistant said that that was fucked up and that he had an injured hip.
"He needs to have his body drained of fluid and that can't be done too quickly," he added. "When he remains in bed and can't move, he can easily get pnemonia…. If you can't move properly, other issues will follow."
"He is devastated beyond belief. It has a bigger effect on him than it would anyone else. It's like chopping off a piano player's hands. This is his life."
Asked if he is worried about his friend Lemmy, Dee said: "I am worried because he's not doing so well right now. But he's improving, even though it takes longer for him than anyone else to become well. Now that the doctors feel that he shouldn't go out an play you'll just have to accept that order."
In a separate einterview with GT.se, Dee stated about Lemmy's current health status: "Things are improving with Lemmy, but the doctors in Berlin are recommending that he rests for another couple of weeks. We can't keep canceling show after show, it's too costly. Therefore we unfortunately have to cancel the entire tour."
Dee had been looking forward to the band's headlining show at Metaltown in his hometown Gothenburg on Thursday, July 4.
"It's so fucking typical, but what are you going to do?" he said. "You have to put health before everything else."
Mikkey also spoke about what he intends to do during his unwanted time off. "I have to twiddle my thumbs," he said. "Maybe I'll go fishing more than usual."

AMANDA SOMERVILLE Checks In With New AVANTASIA World Tour Video Blog
Vocalist AMANDA SOMERVILLE (TRILLIUM, HDK) has checked in with a new video blog from AVANTASIA's Mystery World Tour 2013. Check out the new clip below:
Having played sold out venues all over Europe on the first leg of their Mystery World Tour, German composer and vocalist Tobias Sammet's Avantasia recently kicked off the festival season, and have been announced for another appearance. On July 27th the band will headline the Rock Of Ages festival in Rottenburg-Seebronn, Germany.
Other acts on the bill for the festival include DORO, KROKUS, MOTHER'S FINEST, ALAN PARSON'S PROJECT, UFO and many more.
Further details and tickets at this location.
The Mystery Of Time, the latest release from Avantasia, was released earlier this month in North America, selling nearly 2,000 copies and checking in at #9 on the Billboard Heat Seekers chart. The album also debuted at #33 on the Hard Rock chart.
While Sammet has sold more than 3 million albums worldwide, The Mystery Of Time easily set Avantasia sales records when it released in his native Germany last month; it sold more than twice as many copies as any previous Avantasia album in the first week of its release, while rocketing straight to #2 on the official German Mediacontrol album charts. The record also cracked the Top 10 in Finland, Sweden and England.

PHILIP ANSELMO And SLAYER Perform PANTERA Classic In Greece; Video Available
Philip Anselmo (DOWN, PANTERA) celebrated his 45th birthday by joining SLAYER on stage last night (Monday, July 1) at the Heavy By The Sea festival in Athens, Greece to perform the PANTERA classic "Fucking Hostile". Fan-filmed video footage of his appearance can be seen below.
In the last couple of years, Anselmo and SLAYER guitarist Kerry King have taken part in several installments of the "Metal Masters" clinic series, during which they have played a number of PANTERA songs alongside select cuts from SLAYER.
Speaking to Artisan News, King stated about "Metal Masters": "The reason I still do it to this day is to get Phil involved, because I think the world misses him. He's good at what he does and I'm one of the few guys he looks up to to the point where he'd come out and do it. And I'm not blowing sunshine up my ass; it's just a fact. And everybody wants to see Phil. Everybody loves Phil. When I come out, it's a huge applause. When Phil comes out, it's like somebody came back from the dead; they're not expecting it. And it's cool."
In a recent interview with Full Metal Jackie, Anselmo stated about performing PANTERA songs at "Metal Masters": "I'm up there with guys that I've known since the '80s who have a good five, six years on me of playing music and being successful, people that I looked up to and still look up to… The thing is just being up there with those guys is overwhelming enough, but then playing the PANTERA songs, don't get me wrong, it feels great, it feels fantastic, and it does bring me back to a very powerful place, a very unique place in history. I guess, growing up and cuttin' my chops and growing up with the guys in PANTERA, we always played with a chip on our shoulder and you get that rush of memory when you're up there doing it, but it's a lot of emotions balled up into one, but they're all pretty damn good. For me, the most fun thing about it of all is just seeing the fan reaction. I've always said that PANTERA fans were the best in the world, and I truly meant that and I still mean it. That's why 'Metal Masters' keeps the pulse of the whole thing going."
