DISTURBED Members Talk BP Oil Spill, Global Warming
 Guitarist Dan Donegan and bassist John Moyer of Chicago heavy rockers DISTURBED recently spoke to the Artisan News Service about their new single, "Another Way To Die", which deals with the issues of global warming and environmental disaster. Watch the clip below.
According to The Pulse of Radio, DISTURBED frontman David Draiman has been very vocal in recent interviews about the BP oil leak catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico. He told Noisecreep about the crisis, "I think it is an embarrassment and it is unforgivable. We should have sent every available resource the minute it occurred . . . We left it to BP, who did not take accurate measurements of oil and who lied all along. All they are concerned about is diverting and saving the constantly leaking orifice instead of damming it up and losing the oil. They aren't worried about saving an ecosystem and way of life of fisherman along the Gulf Coast."
DISTURBED has pushed back the release date of its new album, "Asylum", by one week. The album will now arrive on August 31 instead of August 24 as originally scheduled. The record's first single, "Another Way To Die", entered the Active Rock radio chart at No. 5, the highest entry position the band has ever scored and the best debut on the chart since LINKIN PARK's "What I've Done" in 2007.
Draiman told The Pulse of Radio that the band chose "Asylum" as the new record's title because it has a dual meaning. "People are always gonna have that connotation, especially with a band called DISTURBED, that this is, 'Oh, it's an insane asylum.' But asylum is also a haven — when you grant someone asylum, for example," he said. "Much of the subject matter spoken about on this record, it is talking about many of the troubled aspects of the world in which we live and all those things can push you to the brink of insanity. Yet it is the world that we live in, which is our home."
"Another Way To Die" is only the 15th song to debut in the Top 5 since 1997.

DESTRUCTION: New Album Title Announced
 Legendary German thrashers DESTRUCTION have set "Day Of Reckoning" as the title of their new album, tentatively due in January 2011 via Nuclear Blast Records. According to a posting on the band's official web site, the follow-up to 2008's "D.E.V.O.L.U.T.I.O.N." will be faster and "more turbulent" than its predecessor.

MOONSPELL Gets Its Own Stamp
 The Portuguese Postal Service (CTT, Correios de Portugal) will issue a collection of stamps that represent the most significant rock moments and records from Portugal. MOONSPELL's 1995 album "Wolfheart" is included in the collection and will be represented in the form of an official stamp (see below), which will be sold in every post office in Portugal starting on July 19. The stamp will cost one euro and it can be used towards national and international postage.
Commented MOONSPELL vocalist Fernando Ribeiro: "Being that the whole of our career kick-started as penfriends and tapetraders, we could not think of a more perfect and suitable distinction."
In other news, MOONSPELL is working on material for a new studio album, which it expects to release sometime in 2011. According to Fernando, the new songs are "the most exciting, sexiest, darkest, heaviest and catchiest stuff we've written in ages!"
MOONSPELL released a DVD, "Lusitanian Metal", in December 2008 in Europe via Century Media Records. The first disc features one complete live show recorded live in Katowice in 2004, all video clips (from "Opium" to "Everything Invaded"), an in-depth interview with all current band members and a detailed discography. The second disc offers a historical overview of the Portuguese metal group's period as a Century Media recording artist, with no less than 50 live tracks, starting with some very old-school live rehearsal recordings back in 1992 and ending with live footage from the "Spreading The Eclipse Tour".
The band's latest album, "Night Eternal", entered the national chart in Portugal at No. 3 and in Germany at No. 62. The follow-up to 2006's "Memorial" was recorded at Antfarm studios in Denmark with producer Tue Madsen (THE HAUNTED, DARK TRANQUILLITY, HALFORD).

New VAN HALEN Album Just \'Rumors,\' Band Says
 Eddie Van Halen's wife and spokesperson Janie Van Halen has denied reports that that VAN HALEN is putting the finishing touches on a new studio album. Speaking exclusively to RollingStone.com, she said, "What is going around is exactly that, rumors. I don't have any updates at this time."
A "source" told the MelodicRock.com web site late last month that a new VAN HALEN single is due at the end of the year. The report also claimed that the new album, the band's first with singer Dave Lee Roth since "1984", was nearly halfway complete and that it would be released in the first half of 2011.
MelodicRock.com added that "the relationship between Eddie and Dave remains as complex as ever, but there is a definite desire to get a new record completed."
VAN HALEN reunited with Roth in 2007 for a year-long world tour that grossed more than $90 million.
In addition to Roth and guitarist Eddie Van Halen, the current lineup features drummer Alex Van Halen and Eddie's son Wolfgang on bass.

MOBY On DIAMONDSNAKE: Heavy-Metal Community Hates Us More Than I Ever Thought Was Possible
 Moby (a.k.a. Richard Melville Hall) — whose solo music spans the genres of ambient, techno, punk, house and electronic — recently spoke to the Los Angeles Times about DIAMONDSNAKE his new hard rock band which also features comedian/musician Dave Hill (VALLEY LODGE), Phil Costello (SATANICIDE, VALLEY LODGE) and Tomato (THE SOUND OF URCHIN).
"Starting this metal band, the few people who have noticed, they're confused," he said.
"Back in the bygone days, punk and metal didn't mix at all. Metal people had long hair and were more working class, punk kids were a little more erudite with shaved heads."
"I love making my own records, but the way I make my own records is sort of ascetic and monastic," Moby added. "I have a little studio, I go in there by myself, it's a very solipsistic process. It never gets loud. So I love going into a crummy rehearsal studio with a bunch of friends and being loud. That was the nascence of DIAMONDSNAKE."
DIAMONDSNAKE entered Headgear studios in Brooklyn in April with engineer Scott Norton and recorded a total of 15 songs, seven of which can be streamed on the band's Facebook and MySpace pages.
"The music I make is quite personal and earnest, but there's just something really nice about writing heavy metal songs. I leave myself out of it completely," he told the Los Angeles Times. "I think about what a heavy metal guy would write."
As for how DIAMONDSNAKE has been received by heavy metal fans, Moby says, "We've gotten some attention from the heavy-metal community, and they hate us more than I ever thought was possible."

ESSENCE Completes Work On Debut Album
 Up-and-coming Aalborg, Denmark-based thrashers ESSENCE have completed work on their debut album, "Lost in Violence", at Medley Studios (ARTILLERY, PRINCE, RADIOHEAD, MARY J. BLIGE, KELLY CLARKSON, THE CARDIGANS) in Copenhagen. The CD was produced and mixed by Soren Andersen (Glenn Hughes, Dave Mustaine, Mike Tramp) and mastered by Nikolaj Vinten at Vinten Mastering (COLDPLAY, D-A-D, DIZZY MIZZ LIZZY). EXMORTEM Calls It Quits
 After more than 15 years as the driving force in the Danish death metal band EXMORTEM, guitarist Martin Thim has decided that it's time to focus on new adventures and has put the group to rest.
EXMORTEM has been one of the leading acts in the Danish metal scene for many years and set the bar high with albums like "Berzerker Legions" and its latest effort, 2008's "Funeral Phantoms".
Commented Thim: "Our last album, 'Funeral Phantoms', is also viewed as the band's absolutely best release and we are proud to leave on the top of our career.
"With 'Funeral Phantoms' we reached what we have always aimed for, so now it's time for something new. I'm also extremely proud to look back and be able to say that we never repeated ourselves; each album has its own sound and atmosphere, no album is alike. That is very satisfying as an artist!!
"So why stop now?
"The motivation is simply not there anymore and I would never try and force something just to keep going and I've never found it especially interesting to repeat myself.
"I've been working on some new material with Andreas [Schubert, guitar] for a new band, but there is no guarantee at this point that we will actually record anything; we would need the right people and they are not easy to find here. Apart from that, I'm involved in a fully electronic project that is miles away from this genre.
"Anyway, I've always been an entrepreneur and fiery soul, so life is simply too short to just focus on one thing; there is new territory to be discovered and I need to make new music. So this is the end of one thing and the beginning of something new, whatever that will be.
"Morten [Siersbæk, drums] will still be active in SPECTRAL MORTUARY and Simon [Petersen, vocals] got HORNED ALMIGHTY that will soon have an album out on Candlelight (lyselys in Danish..kind a funny). Kim [Nielsen, bass] is killing stuff and me and Andreas will be back eventually.
"I would like to use this opportunity to say 'thank you very much!' to all the past members of the band, you are all part of the history of EXMORTEM and a big thanks to those we have worked with!! I would also like to say a big hello and cheers to all the cool people I've meet through this music...you know who you are...I've also met a lot of not so cool people, but you probably don't know who you are...

BON JOVI Guitarist Richie Sambora Starts A Label
 According to Undercover News, BON JOVI guitarist Richie Sambora has started a label but it is not a record label, it is a fashion label.
Sambora has teamed up with 27-year old L.A. designer Nikki Lund for White Trash Beautiful. The collection will go on sale this month in the UK. The pair launched the label in March in California.
The label is currently only for women although White Trash Beautiful dresses Sambora and Jon Bon Jovi. They are the only two men who get to wear the label at this point.

SEPULTURA Signs With NUCLEAR BLAST RECORDS
 Brazilian/American thrashers SEPULTURA have inked a deal with Nuclear Blast Records.
Commented SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser: "We are happy to be at Nuclear Blast, especially in the year we are celebrating 25 years of history, and it is a great honor for us to join forces with the most metal label in the world. I am sure this will be a great journey for both of us and we are already working on new material while on the road.
