Is SOUNDGARDEN Reunion Really Happening?
The Pulse of Radio reports: The music world was rocked on New Year's Day (January 1) by the news — posted at singer Chris Cornell's web site and Twitter page, plus a new site called Soundgarden World — that grunge gods SOUNDGARDEN would reportedly reunite in 2010 after a 12-year absence. But a closer look at what was posted actually says nothing of the kind, throwing doubt on what — if anything — the band really has in store.
The post reads, "The 12-year break is over and school is back in session. Sign up now. Knights of the Soundtable ride again!" But Knights of the Soundtable was the name of SOUNDGARDEN's fan club, and the message does not say explicitly that SOUNDGARDEN itself is returning — although it is worded vaguely enough to hint at a possible reunion.
And then there's this: Former NIRVANA bassist Krist Novoselic wrote at his Seattle Weekly blog just before Christmas, "I've heard a rumor about a SOUNDGARDEN reunion at the next Coachella festival in April. As a longtime fan of the band, this blew my mind. So I poked around a little, and — according to an excellent source — the rumor is not true."
Rumors of a SOUNDGARDEN reunion have picked up steam in the last year, possibly because the band members are known to have gotten together to talk and three of them — all but Cornell — jammed together last March at a Seattle club.
The talks, however, were reportedly only about the possibility of releasing a long-awaited collection of rarities, along with reissuing the band's catalog and selling some new merchandise.
Billboard.com, after the New Year's Day announcement was posted, reported that the band was in negotiations with several festivals, but that has yet to be officially confirmed or denied.
There's also the question of ex-SOUNDGARDEN drummer Matt Cameron, who now plays in PEARL JAM and has several live commitments with that band lined up this spring and summer.
Cornell told The Pulse of Radio in 2007 that SOUNDGARDEN as a live act had its ups and downs. "SOUNDGARDEN was sometimes like the best rock band you'll ever see, and sometimes we were not that," he said. "Sometimes we were — we were very unpredictable and part of the unpredictableness was sometimes, we just really didn't come together. We were volatile that way."

GUNS N\' ROSES - Slash, Axl, Offered \"Hundreds Of Millions\" To Reform
The guitar legend says he and frontman Axl Rose have been offered "hundreds of millions" to reform.
Slash says Guns N'Roses won't be reuniting
But he told GQ magazine: "During that last tour it was like an ongoing exercise in how we could bond the least, it just got worse and worse."
The pair have not spoken for 13 years, but Slash said: "It got to a point off stage where it was impossible for us to even be in the same room together and create any music.
"So it's sad that something so good doesn't exist any more, even though we're both still alive and on the same planet. But that's all."
Slash also confessed in the interview that he bedded "hundreds" of women.
Asked how many women he slept with during his wild days, he said: "It wouldn't be in the thousands, more in the hundreds, and probably not over 500".
And the star said he still had "fond memories" of Stoke-on-Trent, where he grew up.
He said: "I remember never being able to see across the street beause of the weather. Walking to school was like stumbing around like a blind man. It waw a very tight community, everyone knew each other. My grandmother made great mince pies and my dad would take me for long walks in the coutnryside. I loved it."
Slash now lives in LA, "across the street" from Robbie Williams, another Stoke-raised star.

Former DEEP PURPLE Keyboardist JON LORD To Release New Album In March
According to JonLord.org, former DEEP PURPLE keyboardist Jon Lord will release his next album, "To Notice Such Things", on March 22 through Avie Records.
Titled after the main work — a six movement suite for solo flute, piano and string orchestra — the album was inspired by, and is dedicated to the memory of Jon's dear friend Sir John Mortimer, the English barrister, dramatist, screenwriter, author and creator of British television series "Rumpole of The Bailey", who died in January 2009.
"He was a great friend and a great inspiration to me and I hope my love and respect for him comes out in the music," says Jon.
"A few weeks after he passed away, I was offered a commission to write a piece for solo flute and strings — a flute concerto in essence. At first I turned it down because I thought there wasn't enough time, but after a couple of days of thought, I realized that I had these three little pieces for flute and piano that I had written for the theater shows that I used to do with Sir John, and I thought that they might provide the basis for this 'flute concerto' and that I could write in his memory.
"John and I became friends about 12 years ago. A couple of years later he asked if I would be interested in playing the piano and writing a bit of music for him, for his theater shows — Mortimer's Miscellany — during which he sat on the stage and, accompanied by two actresses, a pianist and a flute player, he read poetry and prose, told stories and jokes and related hilarious legal anecdotes, giving his wonderfully wise and witty take on life, love and the law."
The music written for those shows has now evolved into Jon's new album, "To Notice Such Things".
"There was a total of about six minutes of music which has now grown into a 27-minute suite for solo flute, piano and string orchestra," Lord says. "I wrote it during March, April and May, and it was an emotional yet fascinating experience to work on it when John's presence was still so very strong. In fact it still is, but back then he had only just passed away.
"I think he's pretty much in every note of the piece and I'm really pleased with it, because I think he would be happy with what my thoughts about him are."
The suite ends with a movement called Afterwards, named after the Thomas Hardy poem that John Mortimer used to read at the end of his show.
Both the Suite itself and the album are called "To Notice Such Things" because the last line of the Hardy poem are "He was a man who used to notice such things."
The all-instrumental album was recorded at the end of last September with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Clark Rundell with Cormac Henry on flute, and also features three additional pieces.
"To Notice Such Things" track listing:
01. To Notice Such Things
a. As I Walked Out One Evening
b. At Court
c. Turville Heath
d. The Stick Dance
e. The Winter of a Doormouse
f. Afterwards
02. Evening Song
03. For Example
04. Air on the Blue String

SÓLSTAFIR: Back Catalog To Be Released On Vinyl; DVD Planned
Drummer Guðmundur Óli Pálmason of the Icelandic metal band SÓLSTAFIR has issued the following update:
"I am glad to report that there are exciting times ahead for SÓLSTAFIR. We have finally started working with a booking agency and the fruits of that co-operation can already be seen in the conformation of festival appearances, and there are more to come. We are also looking into the business of getting a manager, and other things which I can not talk about now. But what I can tell you is that although there won’t be a new SÓLSTAFIR record in 2010, there are still things to look forward to. All our back catalogue will finally be released on vinyl, and we are also working on a DVD which will dig deeper than just showing the band playing live."
"Love Is The Devil (And I Am In Love)", the latest video from SÓLSTAFIR, can be viewed below. The song comes off the group's most recent album, "Köld", which was released in February 2009 via Spikefarm Records. The clip was written and directed by Guðmundur Óli Pálmason.

ROUGH SILK\'s FERDY DOERNBERG Reveals More Details About Upcoming Solo Album
English/German slide guitar/keyboard player and singer/songwriter Ferdy Doernberg (ROUGH SILK) has completed work on his new solo album, "Travelling Light", for a February release via Rebellion Records. Most of the CD was recorded at Ferdy's studio (the Droehnwerk) in Bad Nenndorf, with additional recordings that took place in New York City and Hamburg. It was mastered at Blue Castle Studio in Hamburg by Michael Hankel (HOLY MOSES guitarist).
Commented Doernberg: "I wrote all the songs apart from 'May God Save Us From Religion' — a duet with Joseph Parsons (an incredible vocal performance!), who co-wrote the song, too. The same goes for Johnny Gioeli on 'Mutants At The Shopping Mall'. The drums were played by Mike Terrana, Alex Wenn and my brother Curt. The bass tracks were performed by my girlfriend Anke Sobek, Ecki Huedepohl and André Hort. Katja Krause sang harmony vocals on three tracks. I sang and played everything else apart from one song, 'Integrity', where Michael Hankel played electric guitars. On the same track, Sabina Classen (HOLY MOSES) did some growling and — this may be a surprise for many of her fans — clean vocals as well!"
He added, "The whole album is a bit different to the last one, '... 'Til I Run Out Of Road'. Of course, it's still a singer/songwriter album with a lot of slide guitar, but it has more jazz influences and some of the songs have some kind of 'big city' atmosphere. Parts of the album were recorded in New York City and this melting pot of cultures had a huge influence on the album. But don't worry — some songs are in the same style as the songs of the last album."
"Travelling Light" track listing:
01. Does A Dobro Rust When You Play It In The Rain? (instrumental)
02. Shed A Tear
03. In Search Of A Catchy Chorus
04. E.T. Phone Home
05. A No-haired Hippie Like Me
06. Keep Me In Your Heart When I'm Gone
07. Along The Road
08. May God Save Us From Religion (duet with Joseph Parsons)
09. Jugband
10. All The Things You Do
11. Integrity (featuring Sabina Classen & Michael Hankel)
12. You Don't Know What You've Got 'Till It's Gone
13. Wah-Whoopf (instrumental)
14. Travelling Light
15. The Suburbs Of Paradise
16a. Django Meets The Undead Scotsman ( instrumental )
16b. Mutants At The Shopping-Mall (duet with Johnny Gioeli)

Legendary QUEEN Frontman Freddie Mercury\'s \"Civil Partner\" Passes
QUEEN guitarist Brian May has posted the following message at his official website:
"We mark and mourn the passing, after a long smoking-related illness of Jim Hutton. Jim and Freddie (Mercury) were close for many years, of course, and in modern parlance would have been called civil partners. Jim was a quiet and gentle soul, unimpressed and faintly amused by the machinations of fame, rock and roll, and Queen, and so provided Freddie with a refreshingly different view on life. Jim was devoted to gardening, and to breeding the carp which gave Freddie so much pleasure in his pond at Garden Lodge. Our sincere condolences to his sisters and family. RIP Jim."

BROKEN TEETH: \'Viva La Rock, Fantastico!\' Details Revealed
BROKEN TEETH, the Austin-based hard rock quintet featuring DANGEROUS TOYS/WATCHTOWER vocalist Jason McMaster, will release its new album, "Viva La Rock, Fantastico!", on January 26 via Perris Records.
Featuring 13 all-new tracks and cameo vocals by Canadian compadre Danko Jones, "Viva La Rock, Fantastico!" was written on the road during BROKEN TEETH's 2008-2009 "Blood on the Road Tour". As expected, the fifth release from the hard-bitten Texas head-knockers is torn from the same hellraiser's hymnal that gave us the likes of MOTÖRHEAD, AC/DC, RHINO BUCKET and other wheels-of-steel rockers.
"Some of these songs were written in the back of the bus, some were written in hotel rooms and others were written in the darker corners of life on the road," said McMaster. "Inspiration is at its finest when it's covered in grease, sweat and blood."
"Viva La Rock, Fantastico!" is another evil sermon of devilish delights and rock-altar anthems. From the torch-fire, rat-a-tat blast of "Blackheart" and the frantic missile-scream of "Dressin' Up in Flames" to the nervous shakedown of "Break the Spell", and the aptly titled "Exploder", "Viva La Rock, Fantastico!" finds BROKEN TEETH's six-string pitchfork attack taking equal jabs at feverish fun ("Twister" and "Bullet") and pleasurable pain ("Spitting Nails" and "Get Outta Here Alive").
"This is the first BROKEN TEETH album written by the band's current lineup," McMaster said. "In a sense, it marks a new beginning while still maintaining our signature sound. We definitely get the fists in the air, but we also like to give the girls a little something to grind to. If it ain't down-and-dirty, it ain't rock and roll."
Helping BROKEN TEETH fan the "Fantastico!" flames is blood-sweating Canadian rocker Danko Jones. The rock and roll outlaw from the Great White North lends backup vocals to the album's tequila-spiked title track as well as the shout-along stormer "Big Spender".
"I met a BROKEN TEETH fan from Scotland online and she sent me some CDs of upcoming new music," McMaster explained. "One of the CDs was DANKO JONES. I shit myself! I knew there was real rock and roll out there somewhere and I had finally found it. A few years later, Danko was coming through Austin with TURBONEGRO. I went to the show, introduced myself, gave Danko some CDs and stayed in touch. A few years later, he's singing on my music."
BROKEN TEETH formed in Austin, Texas, in 1999 when McMaster recruited former members of DANGEROUS TOYS, DIRTY LOOKS and PARIAH for a side project that allowed band members to have some fun indulging their dirty rock influences, including AC/DC, ROSE TATTOO, CIRCUS OF POWER and THE FOUR HORSEMEN. More than a decade later, BROKEN TEETH has firmly established its own tattered and frayed identity with a discography that includes the self-titled debut, "Guilty Pleasure", "Blood On The Radio" and "Electric".
"Viva La Rock, Fantastico!" ( cover) track listing:
01. Blackheart
02. Exploder
03. Spitting Nails
04. Dressin' Up In Flames
05. Break The Spell
06. Twister
07. Back On The Road
08. All Hail The Altar
09. Get Outta Here Alive
10. Bullet
11. Viva La Rock, Fantastico! (feat. Danko Jones)
12. Big Spender (feat. Danko Jones)

JIMMY PAGE To Make \'Radical Musical Statements\' On Upcoming Solo Album
Jimmy Page has promised to make a "radical" solo album.
The former Led Zeppelin star is currently working on his first new LP since 1988 and has warned fans to open their expectations of the music.
He said: "I think it's very important to do some musical statements with new material and that's exactly what I plan to do over the forthcoming year. Musically it will be a different picture in quite a radical frame, I hope. I'd like to try some ambitious projects. But we'll see."
Jimmy also played down rumours of a rift between himself and former bandmate Robert Plant, insisting they get on "fine" and claiming to be a big fan of the singer's recent work with Alison Krauss.
He added: "the one thing I don't want to do is to try to make it look as though I'm trying to be controversial about what they're doing. Whatever anyone else does is fine. Theirs was a really acclaimed album, and it's really good."

BLACK SEPTEMBER Preparing To Record New Album
Chicago's black/death masters BLACK SEPTEMBER have issued the following update:
"The last few months have seemed silent, but we have been hard at work preparing the new songs for the upcoming LP. We have officially found a new drummer that will be recording with us for the new album due out later this year. We plan on recording at Bricktop Studios who recorded our latest releases, 'The Sermon Of Vengeance' and 'Hordes Of Flesh And Bone'. The writing process is almost finished and we will plan on recording sometime in the coming months. Prepare for war."
BLACK SEPTEMBER's "The Sermon Of Vengeance" seven-inch single featured two original songs entitled "Blood for Oceans" and "Purification" and was released in April 2009 through Shaman Records and others. "Hordes Of Flesh And Bone", a one-song CD, was a collaboration project with WINTERS IN OSAKA, featuring one epic 13-minute song. This collaboration combines the heaviness of BLACK SEPTEMBER with the experimental/horror psychedelic sounds of WINTERS IN OSAKA. | 0

LINKIN PARK Releasing New Song Through iPhone App
The Pulse of Radio reports: LINKIN PARK will debut a new song through an upcoming iPhone application, according to a post at frontman Mike Shinoda's personal web site. The app, a touch game called Linkin Park: 8-Bit Rebellion, will arrive later this month. According to Shinoda, players in the game are part of a rebellion against an evil multi-national corporation. He writes, "Items have been stolen from the six leaders of the rebellion. Collecting these items is the rebellion's only hope to thwarting the plans of the evil PixxelKorp." Anyone who finds all six items will be rewarded with a new LINKIN PARK tune at the end.
Shinoda added that more details will be coming soon.
LINKIN PARK is currently working on its fourth studio album, due out by mid-2010. Singer Chester Bennington told The Pulse of Radio that he expects fans to be surprised with the results. "Everybody in the band is involved in the writing process, so I think sonically, if people felt like they knew what LINKIN PARK was or they could, they thought they knew what LINKIN PARK's sound was — if (2007 album) 'Minutes To Midnight' threw them off, they're in for a ride, 'cause it's getting harder and harder for us, let alone anybody else, to classify what LINKIN PARK is."
There's no word yet on what the iPhone song will be, but presumably it will also find its way onto the new album.

Comments Graham: "Although I'm moving to EVILE, I can't help but feel that's it's a shame that I can't practically do both bands.
"I have had some amazing times with RISE TO ADDICTION and met some great people along the way.
"I will miss Leigh [Oates], Aynsley [Dickinson] and Steve, but I will be sure to keep in touch with them as much as possible and we will remain great friends. More then anything I wish RISE TO ADDICTION all the best and look forward to hearing, seeing and doing some festivals together with them in the very near future."
RISE TO ADDICTION's second album, "Some Other Truth", was released in November via Mausoleum Records. The follow-up to 2007's "A New Shade Of Black For The Soul" was produced by Wray and features 10 songs that "show inspired natural progression and focus of the RTA sound," according to a press release. "From the turbocharged rock-punk opener 'Sick of Me' via the doom-riffed 'The Whisper' to the shred-fest within 'One More Time' and the catchy hooks of 'Fade Away', RISE TO ADDICTION's 'Some Other Truth' is certainly a collection of the finest 'modern-day classic rock' delivered by a fresh band that know...understand... and show respect to their peers."
"Some Other Truth" track listing:
01. Sick of Me
02. Fallen from Grace
03. Scars We Wear
04. The Whisper
05. One More Time
06. Fade Away

ALTAR OF PLAGUES Signs With CANDLELIGHT RECORDS
Candlelight Records has announced the signing of the Irish experimental black metal band ALTAR OF PLAGUES.
Commented the group: "ALTAR OF PLAGUES are very glad to announce we have signed with Candlelight Records in Europe. We are proud to sit on a roster alongside many bands that we have long admired and that have been a constant source of inspiration for what we do, particularly the likes of EMPEROR, ENSLAVED and BLUT AUS NORD. We feel Candlelight's aesthetic compliments what we do perfectly and we're looking forward to working alongside them in 2010 and beyond."
ALTAR OF PLAGUES was formed in 2006. Terms that are most frequently used to describe the group's style include black metal, ambient and progressive or post-metal, though it seems no one description can sum up the act's massive sound. The act themselves consider black metal to be the genre to which they are most attached, but, on the contrary, they have also been quoted to take influence from acts as diverse as EMPEROR, BJORK, and ARVO PÄRT.
The band's untraditional aesthetic and approach to their music has led to ALTAR OF PLAGUE appealing to a wide variety of listeners and this may be seen by the diverse range of acts ALTAR OF PLAGUES have toured with, including ISIS and MAYHEM, as well as having appeared at festivals that focus on "extreme" metal and festivals that encourage experimentation and diversity.
Following the release of only one demo and an EP, ALTAR OF PLAGUES signed to Canadian label Profound Lore Records. In 2009 the act released "White Tomb", an album that was described by a number of critics as one of 2009's best and most exciting releases (and was featured in Decibel magazine's "Best of 2009" list). Last year saw the band tour extensively throughout Europe, and now 2010 is proving to be an even more promising year for the act, with a forthcoming EP release on Roadburn Records as well as an appearance at the renowned Roadburn festival and more extensive touring. | 0

"There's gonna be some cool surprises on this one since i wanna involve more guests and try new things and techniques.

SLUMBER To Enter Studio Tomorrow
Swedish melodic doom/death metallers SLUMBER will enter Panic Room Studios in Skara, Sweden tomorrow (Sunday, January 10) to begin a four-week recording/mixing session for the band's new album, entitled "Resonance". A late spring release is expected.
Commented Ehsan Kalantarpour (vocals, synth): "Never in my life have I with such pride and energy tackled a huge challenge like this. This album has turned out to be immensely complex to create but extremely rewarding if done focused and right.
"It's becoming a journey many of you will never, EVER forget.
"I know the [pre-production] samples [of the new tracks] on our MySpace site might confuse some of you. Every day the songs are heavily changing to create a very dynamic context. So please don't 'worry' — once you hear the album you will recognize its massive voyage nature."
Drummer Ted Larsson left SLUMBER in October 2009 "because of private reasons." The band will utilize the services of two session drummers during the "Resonance" tracking process. The CD will also include appearances by Ida Sundquvist, Lina Svärd and the Vinköl choir.
SLUMBER's debut album, "Fallout", was released in 2004 via Karmageddon/New Aeon Media.

VREID Parts Ways With Guitarist, Announces Replacement
Norwegian band VREID has issued the following update:
"In late December we got the news from [guitarist] Ese that he could not continue to play with VREID. This was, of course, very sad news, as Ese has been a member of VREID since the beginning in 2004. We respect his decision, and want to thank him for all his great work during the five years, four album and almost 200 shows for the VREID brigade.
"After the news from Ese, we immediately had a band meeting to look into the situation. 2009 was a demanding and hard working year for VREID, and it doesn’t seem as 2010 will be in any different. We will do a lot of shows, and we will spend a lot of time recording our fifth album. This meant that we had to start looking for a new guitarist.
"Our first choice was a choice without discussions. We asked Stian Bakketeig (a.k.a. Strom) to join us. To our delight, he was ready for the task, and is now officially the new VREID guitarist.
"We have known Strom since the early 1990s, and he joined our previous band ULCUS back in 1996, later on we played with him for several years in WINDIR. Strom was our number one choice as he is the best guitar player we know, the social connection is perfect, and we have a strong history together.
"We will use the first two months of 2010 working on new material and rehearsing our live set with Strom. We have made a list of songs that we will rehearse to play live. This list consist of songs we haven't played in a long while and also songs we have never played live before. We will do our first live shows with Strom in March, and give you more info about this soon." | 0

Female Singer Confirmed For AVANTASIA Project
Germany-based singer Cloudy Yang (pictured below) has joined the list of guest musicians who will appear on the forthcoming release from EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet's AVANTASIA project.
Commented Tobias: "I know people have speculated and thrown in a lot of names [about which female vocalist will appear on the next AVANTASIA album], but it's not about names, it's foremost about quality.
"Together with the amazing Amanda Somerville, Cloudy Yang had been singing backing vocals during the AVANTASIA world tour, and also performed backing vocals for EDGUY's 'Dragonfly'. Cloudy's vocals are simply terrific! And having a gifted singer like that in my extended rock and roll family that a lot of people may not have known yet, I consider it my duty to give her as much exposure as I possibly can.
"Cloudy had sung the demo that we had recorded to guide the real singer later on — whoever that was going to be. But Cloudy was perfect on that demo, and we really, really had to keep her vocals on there. She reminds me a lot of Lisa Dalbello, some people said Kate Bush. You will hear it — she is nothing but amazing!"
