GWYDION - New Album Title, Release Date Revealed
 Portugese viking/folk band GWYDION have completed the work on their new CD and will release the album titled Horn Triskelion, on April 9th via SMP/Trollzorn Records.
Horn Triskelion was recorded and produced by Fernando Matias (F.E.V.E.R.) in the Urban Insect Studios in Portugal, and mixed and mastered by Børge Finstad (ARCTURUS, MAYHEM, BORKNAGAR, ENSLAVED, ULVER, TRISTANIA, AVA INFERI, THEATRE OF THRAGEDY, VINTERSORG, SHINING, ÀSMEGIN among others) at Toproom Studios in Norway. The artwork was created by Jan Yrlund (TÝR, KORPIKLAANI, STRATOVARIUS, SVARYSOT, IMPERIA, SIRENIA) and will be revealed shortly.  | 0 |  |

METSATÖLL: \'Only Bravery\' Video Released
 "Only Bravery", the new video from Estonian metallers METSATÖLL, can be viewed below. The clip makes use of the animated short film "Suur Tõll", based on an Estonian heroic folk tale, created by Tallinnfilm in 1980, with artwork by Jüri Arrak, written and directed by Rein Raamat.
"We had the idea for this video already in 2004, when for the first time we asked the legendary Estonian artist Jüri Arrak for a cover image for our album," explains METSATÖLL guitarist/vocalist Markus Teeäär. Drummer Marko Atso adds, "The animated film 'Suur Tõll' had an impact on all of us already in our early childhood. But until now, we simply did not have a proper song to go with this wonderful animation."

 Vocalist Sarah Jezebel Deva (ANGTORIA, CRADLE OF FILTH) has posted the title track of hew new solo album, A Sign Of Sublime, for streaming on her official MySpace page. Check it out here. She recently unveiled the video for the song, which is available below.
The limited edition digi-pack version of A Sign Of Sublime, the forthcoming solo album from Deva will be released through Rising Records in February 2010 and is limited to 500 copies. The tracklist is as follows; the digi pack contains one bonus track plus video.

Boris Randall Joins NECROPHAGIA
 Boris Randall (formerly of HALLOWMAS) has joined NECROPHAGIA and will be appearing on their upcoming release, Deathtrip 69, scheduled for Halloween 2010. Boris and Killjoy have been working on material for DT69 which will be the band's first new material in over five years. Songs include: 'Suffering Comes In Sixes', 'Reborn Through Blackmass', 'Celluliod Screams' and 'Bleeding Eyes Of The Eternally Damned'.

 EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet's AVANTASIA project will celebrate its comeback this spring with a new epic masterpiece, to be released on April 3, 2010 as two separate albums and in a limited deluxe edition (in one box set) entitled "The Wicked Symphony" and "Angel Of Babylon".
The cover artwork for the two CDs (see below) was created by Thomas Ewerhard, who also worked on EDGUY's "Hellfire Club" and AVANTASIA's "The Scarecrow" albums.

AXEL RUDI PELL: \'One Night Live\' DVD Track Listing Revealed
 German guitarist AXEL RUDI PELL and his solo band will release a new DVD, "One Night Live", on February 22 via SPV/Steamhammer. The disc was filmed last year at the Rock Of Ages festival in Seebronn, Germany last year and it contains a full performance, including an incredible light show with over 80 minutes playing time. Filmed with 10 cameras in front of 5,000 fans, the DVD comes with a Dolby Digital 2.0 and Dolby Digital 5.0 sound, contains a song selection and audio setup.

WAYLANDER Focusing On Songwriting
 Barry Anderson of Metal Storm conducted an interview with Ciaran "ArdChieftain" O'Hagan (vocals), Saul McMichael (guitar) and Dave Briggs (folk instruments) of the long-running Irish folk metal act WAYLANDER at last year's Hard Rock Hell festival, which was held December 4-5, 2009 at Pontins in Prestatyn Sands. North Wales, United Kingdom. Watch the chat in two parts below.
Ciaran "ArdChieftain" O'Hagan has issued the following update on WAYLANDER's current activities:
"As some of you are aware, we had to cancel a number of shows in October due to me breaking bones in an accident. Apologies to anyone who were looking forward to the shows in Germany, England and Limerick. Luckily, I had recovered in time for our shows at Hard Rock Hell in Wales and Winterfesr in Cork which went well for us. We had Sleeve (ex-SORROWFALL) filling in on bass for the Cork show and he did a great job as we knew he would.
"We are playing in Dublin and Belfast with our Flemish friends NATAN and BURIAL (U.K.) on Friday, January 29 and Saturday, January 30. These will be our last live performances for a while as we've decided to spend all our energies writing a new album.
"We'll update you all on the writing process in several weeks where hopefully we'll have some set in stone song titles to share with you all."

RONNIE JAMES DIO Undergoes Third Chemo Treatment
 Legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW) was diagnosed with the early stages of stomach cancer and is currently receiving treatment at the Mayo Clinic. His wife/manager Wendy Dio has issued the following update on Ronnie's condition:
"After a few hiccups between Christmas and New Year's, such as a blood clot, a trip to the emergency room, and a three-day stay at the hospital, we had a quiet holiday spent with family and close friends.
"Ronnie and I just returned from Houston, where Ronnie had his third chemo treatment, and all seems to be going well.
"Ronnie and Simon Wright [DIO/ex-AC/DC drummer] went to see 'Avatar', which [Ronnie] thought was amazing! He has also been writing more chapters for his book.
"While at M.D. Anderson Cancer Centre on his second trip, [Ronnie] met a DIO fan named Carmen who has been having treatment every other day for a year, and is eagerly awaiting a bone marrow transplant. Ronnie and Carmen have become fast friends.
"Carmen is a very positive happy person whose existence, like Ronnie's, depends heavily on music and sports.
"On the third trip, we also met his mom and sister, whose total support is so important to all cancer patients. They have become part of our family as well.
"The support we get from all of our friends and fans is such a blessing to Ronnie and I.
"Ronnie, [along with fellow HEAVEN & HELL members] Geezer [Butler], Tony [Iommi] and Vinny [Appice] will be doing some interviews in the upcoming weeks to be included in the new 30th anniversary BLACK SABBATH 'Heaven And Hell' DVD, due out sometime this year.
"We would like to thank Simon Wright, who has been such a help with everything and a good, good friend, of course our doctor at MD Anderson, Dr. Ajani, and especially our family doctor, Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, without whose quick diagnosis and help with all the nurses and hospitals, we would be lost. His care and compassion is unwavering.
"Thanks again to all of Ronnie's friends and fans, and — by the way — Ronnie has not lost any hair yet!"

IRON MAIDEN Drummer on Owning A Restaurant: \'I\'m Really Enjoying It\'
 Hart Baur of MiamiHerald.com recently conducted an interview with IRON MAIDEN's Nicko McBrain about the drummer's newly opened restaurant in Coral Srings, Florida, Rock N Roll Ribs. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
MiamiHerald.com: This started with a backyard cookout?
McBrain: "Rick Baum [Nicko's close friend, guitarist, and restaurateur] and I used to have the rib cook-offs all the time. Rick always made the best ribs and I always tried to find out how he made them and he wouldn't tell me for years his secret. So he finally told me how he made them, and I prepped it with him, and added some English ingredients and they were so good our friends said you guys ought to open a restaurant. We looked at each other and thought, that ain't a bad idea! Rock N Roll Ribs!"
MiamiHerald.com: How did it move from there?
McBrain: "Over the years, we gradually got things together. Rick went shopping around the area and we found this wonderful establishment — it's very small and it suits us as we didn't want to go too big. We just wanted to get as many people as we could interested in enjoying our food."
MiamiHerald.com: Compare playing with IRON MAIDEN and owning a restaurant.
McBrain: "It's tough. You know, playing drums for IRON MAIDEN two hours a night, that's a stretch. But here I go home at the end of the day after being here almost 12 hours and I'm absolutely shagged."
MiamiHerald.com: Enjoying the experience?
McBrain: "I'm really enjoying it as I'm getting to meet a lot of people, and it's not just IRON MAIDEN fans. It's people form the local area, and we had a guy drive from Melbourne the other day. It's a long way.
"The ambience of a restaurant is very important. You won't hear BARRY MANILOW in here; you won't hear ROD STEWART, KISS or GUNS N' ROSES, sorry boys and girls. All you will here is classical, beautiful metal."

 Italian progressive-aggressive metal band ELDRITCH is currently writing material for its eighth album for a late 2010 release via Diversity Media/LMP. A new posting on the group's MySpace page reads, "The ELDRITCH guys are really concentrated on giving their fans a 'back-to-the-roots' album!! At the moment we can't say too many things, but it's sure that the next album will be nearly the perfection one! RUSH - Neil Peart Says Next Release Might Not Be A Traditional Album
 According to Winnipegfreepress.com, RUSH drummer Neil Peart says the legendary Toronto band is in the beginning stages of planning a new project, but the new music may not come in the form of a traditional album.
Peart tells The Canadian Press in a telephone interview that he has begun writing lyrics for a new project, but that the band feels "liberated" in a way from the album format.
He says Rush might release a few songs immediately after recording them, and then release more once they're ready.

 "No God Slave", the new Salvatore Perrone-directed video from Italian melodic death metallers EMBRYO, can be viewed below. The song is the title cut of the band's new album, which is scheduled for release on February 15 via Rising Records. The CD was recorded between February and March 2009 at Fear Studio (DGM, GORY BLISTER, EMPYRIOS, THE MODERN AGE SLAVERY) in Ravenna, Italyto. It was recorded and mixed by Simone Mularoni, and mastered by Gabriele Ravaglia.

Former MISFITS Drummer BRIAN \'DAMAGE\' KEATS Dead at 46
 According to author and veteran punk drummer Joel Gausten (PIGFACE, ELECTRIC FRANKENSTEIN, THE UNDEAD), Brian "Damage" Keats, who drummed in the final incarnation of the Glenn Danzig-fronted MISFITS (circa 1983), died on January 12 following a battle with liver cancer. He was 46 years old.

DAWN OF SILENCE: New Album To See Light Of Day In February
 "Wicked Saint or Righteous Sinner", the new album from Swedish melodic metallers DAWN OF SILENCE, will be released on February 24 via GMR Music Group. The CD was recorded back in February 2008 at Black Lounge studio in Avesta, Sweden with producer Jonas Kjellgren (SCAR SYMMETRY). The band says, "[After the ablum was completed] we [parted ways] with our former label, Metal Heaven, and the search for a new record label had so begun. Almost a year passed until we found a suitable label in GMR Music Group (Sweden). And now the album finally will see the light of day!"

 "No Remorse", the new video from old-school thrashers SPEED\KILL/HATE — who feature in their ranks OVERKILL guitarist Dave Linsk — can be viewed below. The song comes off the band's long-awaited sophomore album, "Out For Blood", which is due later this year via an as-yet-undetermined record label.
Commented the group: "SPEED\KILL/HATE are actively searching for an appropriate record label; they have not found the right home as of yet, hence the delay on the new record."

Commented Glen: "Right now I am in the process of doing the final tracking for LD/50's brand new music. We have recorded three new songs that I'm excited to let people listen too. Also, I have two more solos to finish out of the eight solos I am doing for the new DEFIANCE CD. These guys have managed to bring back that old-school thrash that we as Bay Area people are proud of; it's gonna be sick!! And I dont mean in a swine kind of way.
"As soon as I'm done with the DEFIANCE solos, I will be moving on to do a guest solo for the band called SEVEN KINGDOMS out of Florida. Camden is a fellow Bernie Rico guitar player. Looking forward to this as well.

DARK TRANQUILLITY: Another New Song Available For Streaming
 "At The Point Of Ignition", a brand new song from Swedish melodic death metallers DARK TRANQUILLITY, is available for streaming on the band's MySpace page. The track comes off the group's ninth album, "We Are The Void", which will be released via Century Media Records on the following dates:

* Spain, Portugal: March 2
* Finland, Hungary: March 3

The drums for the CD were recorded at bassist Daniel Antonsson's studio, while the remaining instruments were tracked at Martin Brändström's (electronics) newly renovated Rogue music facility. The mixing duties were once again handled by Tue Madsen (HALFORD, BEHEMOTH, KATAKLYSM, THE HAUNTED) at his Antfarm studio in Århus, Denmark.

Ex-GORGOROTH Frontman\'s Appearance In Black Metal Musical Generates Controversy
 Kristian "Gaahl" Espedal (GORGOROTH, GOD SEED, TRELLDOM) has been cast in a musical based on the concept album "Svartediket", which was inspired by myths and legends of the lake Svartediket, located outside of Bergen, Norway. The "first-ever black metal musical" is scheduled to premiere on May 26 at Festspillene i Bergen (Bergen International Festival), an annual international music and cultural festival. The event will be held at Bergen's Den Nationale Scene (DNS) (English translation: The National Stage), one of Norway's oldest and most renowned theaters which was founded to develop Norwegian playwrights.
Gaahl's casting has caused controversy in Norway, particularly as both Festspillene and Den Nationale Scene are heavily funded by the Norwegian state. Halvor Nordhaug, the Lutheran bishop in the diocese of Bjørgvin, seated in Bergen and covering parts of Western Norway, is especially concerned about Gaahl's previously published statements to the media in which he appeared to condone and support church burnings.
When asked in the 2005 documentary "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" for his thoughts on the church burnings associated with the early Norwegian black metal scene, Gaahl replied, "Church burnings are, of course, a thing that I support one hundred percent. It should have been done much more, and will be done much more in the future. We have to remove every trace from what Christianity, and the semitic roots, have to offer this world."
After Gaahl's involvement with the "Svartediket" musical was made official this week, the former GORGOROTH frontman once again reiterated that he views church burning as OK.
"I have left my past behind, but I still have an anti-Christian attitude," Gaahl told the Bergens Tidende newspaper. "Christianity has no place in this country. As long as the church has the power it has and supports oppression, we sholudn't give the church any sympathy. Therefore I don't think it's wrong if it (church burning) happens again. The symbolic value of burning down churches is important."
Responding to Gaahl's remarks, Bishop Halvor Nordhaug told the Bergens Tidende newspaper, "Gaahl displays some scary attitudes by defending church burnings. He says nothing about the fact that human lives were lost during one of the church burnings in the 1990s. I think everybody, no matter what their religious beliefs are, agrees with me that his attitudes are scary, but it could still be possible that his role at Den Nationale Scene will provide him with some kind of legitimacy, which is unfortunate."

OPETH\'s Mikael Åkerfeldt Talks About New Signature Model - \"I Never Thought There Was A Chance In The World That I\'d Have A Guitar With My Fucking Name On It\"
 OPETH frontman Mikael Åkerfeldt checks in with the following update:
"I have my own signature guitar coming out!!! I will be at NAMM in a few days introducing it plus it looks like me and Fred (Fredrik Åkesson) might do some type of session as well where we go through a few licks and pretend like we could actually 'teach' you something. Might be fun, but there's a risk it might be completely un-fun too (cause I'm gonna be nervous!). I'll just talk shit and Fred can show some licks. Deal?
Anyway, if you like guitars (which I know you do) I just wanna brief you on what my own signature guitar will be like. Kinda. I haven't played it yet myself but designed it from scratch together with the lovely development team at PRS guitars. I based the whole design around the red Modern Eagle custom 24 that I used here and there in the Roundhouse Tapes DVD. It's also the one that we used for pretty much all the solos on the Watershed record, and the only guitar I've ever brought to our producer Jens Bogren that he liked. Yes, it's fucking amazing and the best guitar in my collection without a doubt.
This model (simply called Mikael Åkerfeldt SE) will be available soon. I don't have the retail price as of yet, but since it's a SE model it's not going to be that 'bad'.
It will be single cutaway mahogany body with a flamed maple top, neck will be of the wide-fat type and made of three-piece maple that also goes around to the front of the headstock. Sweet! Ebony fretboard and 24 jumbo frets with extra large side dots for the 5th and 12 fret (I have fluorescent tape on my other guitars so I can sing and still see where I'm at while playing, this will look better!!). There will be the old style PRS bird inlays on the fretboard. One HFS and one Vintage bass pickup thrown in with a three-way toggle switch. PRS style tremolo and all the hardware all will be gold (Bling! Well...it's fool's gold or something but whatever.....). The main finish is called tortoise shell but it might be available in more, I don't know yet. The whole guitar will be high glossed up apart from the back of the neck which I've requested to be satin matt, which is so much better for me at least. I think there will be a nice little Opeth "O" logo under the bridge as well. Comes with a gigbag. I've only seen pictures of it so far but I can't wait to play it. I think I might spend the LA nights with it....yes...kinky! I think it looks stunning, oh yes I do!!

It's insanely BIG for me to have a thing like this happening. I never thought there was a chance in the world that I'd have a guitar with my fucking name on it, but now I do.
I had to make sure it's all clean and hunky dory from my end and this is a guitar that I would use myself. It has all the specs that I'm looking for personally and is made for all-round guitar players, songwriters, lead-players, vocalists/guitarists...you name it. It will cover a lot of ground I think.
Anyway, demoing a new song...sounds good!"

WHIPLASH - 25 Years Of Thrash DVD Quality HD Footage Available
 eactivated New Jersey thrashers WHIPLASH have uploaded a high quality video clip (see below) the first segment from the bands up-coming DVD entitled 25 years of thrash. The clip was shot at Mozart Studios in the band's hometown of Clifton, New Jersey and features Tony Portaro laying down rhythm guitar tracks for the song entitled 'Feeding Frenzy' with legendary producer Harris Johns at the helm (SODOM, SEPULTURA, HELLOWEEN).
