Watch Final Show Of MERCYFUL FATE's Fall 2022 North American Tour

Reformed Danish metal legends MERCYFUL FATE played the final show of their first North American headlining tour in over two decades on November 16 at the Tabernacle in Atlanta, Georgia. Fan-filmed video of the concert can be seen below (courtesy of the Sonic PerspectivesYouTube channel).

Stepping in on bass for MERCYFUL FATE at these shows was Becky Baldwin, a British musician who has previously played with FURY, TRIAXIS and CONTROL THE STORM. She filled in for MERCYFUL FATE's regular bassist Joey Vera, who was unable to make the trek due to a scheduling conflict with his longtime band ARMORED SAINT.

In 2019, it was announced Vera would be replacing original MERCYFUL FATE bassist Timi Hansen for the band's summer 2020 European festival appearances due to Hansen's cancer diagnosis. Hansen passed away in November 2019 and MERCYFUL FATE's 2020 summer festival appearances were rescheduled for 2021, and then to 2022.

MERCYFUL FATE's North American tour, which featured support from by KREATOR and MIDNIGHT, followed the band's headlining performance at this year's edition of Psycho Las Vegas.

MERCYFUL FATE is currently working on a new album and recently gave fans a taste of the new material when they debuted a song called "The Jackal Of Salzburg" in Germany this past June as well as at Psycho Las Vegas. The band's current lineup is King Diamond on vocals, Hank Shermann and Mike Wead on guitars, Bjarne T. Holm on drums and Vera on bass.

MERCYFUL FATE was formed in early 1981 in Copenhagen, Denmark by vocalist King Diamond and guitarist Hank Shermann. They were later joined by guitarist Michael Denner and bassist Timi Hansen, and soon thereafter drummer Kim Ruzz would join to complete the band lineup. The band recorded two demos in 1981 and later signed with Rave On Records in Holland for the recording of their successful self-titled EP, released in November of 1982. The "Mercyful Fate" EP was soon in heavy rotation around core metal radio stations, launching a new breed of heavy metal with their unique sound.

The band joined Roadrunner Records in 1983 and their debut full-length, "Melissa", was recorded and released that same year. The following year, MERCYFUL FATE returned to the studio to record their now legendary "Don't Break The Oath" full-length, released in September of 1984.

MERCYFUL FATE embarked upon a two-month U.S. tour in support of the record, which took them across the States several times sharing the stage with the likes of MOTÖRHEAD and EXCITER. The shows had created a brush fire within the metal community. The band reaped recognition globally, closing the year with a five-date tour in Germany with MOTÖRHEAD, GIRLSCHOOL, HELIX and TALON.

MERCYFUL FATE's first concert of 1985 was in their hometown of Copenhagen at an old movie theater with a large capacity. The show sold out and their stage show exhibited a new level of distinction. The night was a huge victory and a new highlight for the band. By April of 1985, however, MERCYFUL FATE decided to part ways for each to pursue new challenges. The KING DIAMOND band was born and reaped critical acclaim the following years with five studio albums on Roadrunner Records. KING DIAMOND has since signed with Metal Blade Records and is going stronger than ever before.

In the summer of 1992, MERCYFUL FATE decided to reunite and penned a new deal with Brian Slagel and his label, Metal Blade Records. "In The Shadows" was released in 1993 and was an instant triumph furthered by a sold-out U.S. tour.

MERCYFUL FATE has gone on to release another five studio albums and have toured Europe, the U.S. and South America multiple times. The highlight of 1999 was their critically acclaimed album "9" which was followed by a European tour with METALLICA, where King Diamond and Hank Shermann joined the band onstage several times for the medley "Mercyful Fate" which METALLICA had recorded on their "Garage Inc." double tribute album the year prior. Tours in the U.S. and in South America followed, marking the band's last live performances for over a decade. MERCYFUL FATE then went on hiatus, but made a brief appearance when members joined METALLICA onstage in 2011 for their 30th-anniversary show in San Francisco, California.

Having recently completed a sold-out North American tour with labelmates Lorna Shore, plus Aborted, Ingested and Angelmaker, Ov Sulfur - the world's first blast-phemous metalcore ov death band - has dropped a new standalone single via Century Media Records. "Death Ov Circumstance" goes light on the "blast" and heavier on the "metalcore" side of the equation, and is streaming now on all digital platforms here for those ready to hear a new side of the rising blackened deathcore heretics. The video, once again a joint effort of Vicente Cordero and MM Fabrications, can be viewed below.

Vocalist Ricky Hoover comments: "This is another perspective on the poison that is religion. Rather than directly attack the current church, I looked back on history to the Salem Witch Trials. That was a time when Christianity persecuted others, while its believers either picked up their torches at worst or turned a blind eye at best - a pretty terrible best case scenario. This is a scenario that's repeated itself throughout history during slaughters such as the Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition.

Our video is more a fantasy world where the witches get their revenge. After one and her baby are burned alive, she and her friends come back to enact some sweet justice."

Guitarist/vocalist Chase Wilson adds: "After the full-on brutal attack of 'Stained In Rot,' here's a song with...ZERO BLAST BEATS! Don't worry, though, the song kicks in HARD with a churning war march and only lets up for our best melodic hooks yet. In fact, hearing the unfinished version of this track is what really opened our eyes to how diverse Ricky's vocals were - not just in screaming but also singing. Wait until you hear the bridge!"

Pushing progressive death metal in ever more imaginative directions, Entheos — vocalist Chaney Crabb and multi-instrumentalist Navene Koperweis — continue to stand apart from the pack. Incorporating elements drawn from myriad genres — including death metal, groove, grunge, electronica, slam, gothic rock, jazz, prog and more — they have evolved with every release. Having stripped down to a two-piece in 2020, this decision streamlined the band and allows the core members to make the music they want — with no compromise, which is clearly to their betterment.

Today, Entheos share the video for the new single "In Purgatory."

"'In Purgatory' is a direct extension of our last single 'Absolute Zero," says Koperweis. "Musically, the lead guitar and melodies that appear on the outro of 'Absolute Zero' became the seeds for 'In Purgatory,' and from there, the song wrote itself."

Crabb continue, "Lyrically, it represents introspection and coming to terms with the person that you are at your very core. The video was shot and edited by the incredible David Brodsky and Allison Woest and their team at My Good Eye: Music Visuals."

INFINITE & DIVINE Announce Second Album Ascendancy; “LARP” Single Streaming

Infinite & Divine, a collaboration between two Swedish musicians, guitarist/songwriter/producer Jan Åkesson and vocalist Tezzi (a/k/a Terese Persson), will release their sophomore album, Ascendancy on February 10, 2022 via Frontiers Music Srl. Today, the band has released the first single & video from the album, “LARP”. Preorder/save at orcd.co.

In the summer of 2019, Jan and Tezzi first encountered one another and shortly after that set to work on writing songs for what would ultimately become their debut album, Silver Lining. Said album was a fantastic combination of Jan’s energetic heavy riffs, the influences of their varied taste in melodic hard rock and metal, and Tezzi’s melodic, yet powerful vocals. Ascendancy sees the two taking that songwriting formula and building upon it to craft an even more thrilling and energetic album, highlighting all their strengths.

Terese "Tezzi" Persson started her musical career doing local troubadour gigs at the age of 17, but before that had already started writing her own songs and lyrics. Over the years, she has appeared in different musical projects both as a lead singer in metal and progressive rock bands, as well as doing backup vocals for various Swedish artists. In 2013, she also appeared on the second album, Fantasmagoria, from Epysode (featuring Mike Lepond of Symphony X, Simone Mularoni of DGM, and Tom Englund of Evergrey among others). In 2021, she partnered up with four other stunning lead vocalists in the pop metal outfit Venus 5, whose self-titled debut album was released in June 2022.

Jan Åkesson started out as a songwriter while also appearing as lead guitarist in several bands, before he decided to step back from the live scene to focus on writing and producing songs. He started the band StoneLake, who released seven studio albums, while at the same time writing songs for other artists around the world, all who were performing different styles of music. In 2017, he also released the album Ascension by his solo project Shadow Rain.

BURY TOMORROW Share “Boltcutter” Video; Announce North American Headline Tour

British metal sextet Bury Tomorrow have shared the video for new single "Boltcutter," another crushing taste of their forthcoming seventh album, the aptly titled The Seventh Sun.

Lead guitarist Kristan Dawson says, "From the second we put the finishing touches to 'Boltcutter,' we knew it had to be a single. Whilst it is a fundamental Bury Tomorrow track, being both loud and heavy, it also emphasises the new era of our band. Specifically, it highlights influences we haven't necessarily channelled through Bury Tomorrow before, and it's a pleasure to continue to expand the possibilities of our music. It began its existence through Tom crafting the foundations of the track with an ambient and electronic soundscape, before the rest of the band provided their usual expertise."
The accompanying video was once again created in collaboration with director Matt Sears, who directed its prequel, "Abandon Us," in the guise of a horror-inspired, two-part short film. This time around, the fate of the protagonist is irreversibly established in the heavy-hitting and thought-provoking video.

Speaking on the process and continuing collaboration, Dawson enthuses, "Continuing the visual narrative with video director Matt Sears was an absolute joy, and thanks to his knowledge of horror and unique filmmaking skills, 'Boltcutter' delivers the perfect sequel to 'Abandon Us.' It's another video with a visceral and confronting nature, and we feel it perfectly represents the song and its themes."

The release of "Boltcutter" coincides with the band nearing the end of their momentous tour across the UK and Europe, which saw their most extensive routing since pre-pandemic, selling more than 35,000 tickets, with multiple dates completely sold out, and also being able to preview the new single on each night of the tour.

Dawson expands on this by stating, "Considering its weighty riffs and catchy dual vocal hooks, we also knew that 'Boltcutter' was going to be an undeniable addition to future setlists. And for those who have attended recent shows on our tour, they will have already had a sneak preview. We've loved being able to preview a single release like this with our fans, and it seems that it has already made an impact with team BT and we can't wait for the rest of our wonderful community to hear it."

Additionally, the band has announced its Spring 2023 headline tour of North America. All dates are below. Tickets go on sale on on Friday, December 1.

The tour marks the first time the band has toured North American since 2010 and it is a welcome return.

Watch CATTLE DECAPITATION Perform "The Geocide" In Chicago; On-Stage Video Streaming

During their November 11 concert at Brooklyn Bowl in Las Vegas, Cattle Decapitation performed their new song, "We Eat Our Young", live for the first time. Cattle Decapitation are closing out 2022 supporting label mates Amon Amarth on their North American headlining tour, wrapping up on December 17 at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles. Additional support provided by Carcass and Obituary making this the must-see tour for fans of death metal.

STEVE HARRIS's BRITISH LION Releases 'Legend' Live Video

BRITISH LION, the side project of IRON MAIDEN bassist and founder Steve Harris, has released a live video for the song "Legend". The clip was recorded during BRITISH LION's European tour this past summer, which included an appearance at U.K.'s Download festival as well as headlining performances at clubs throughout Germany, Poland, Spain and France.

"Legend" is taken from BRITISH LION's second album, "The Burning", which came out in January 2020 in digipack CD, double gatefold vinyl and digital download formats via Explorer1 Music (E1). The LP was recorded, engineered and mixed at Barnyard Studios by Tony Newton and produced by Steve Harris.

As previously reported, BRITISH LION will embark on an 11-date tour of the U.K. in January 2023. Special guests at all shows will be CONEY HATCH. Additional support on the tour will come from AIRFORCE.

BRITISH LION last played live in the U.K. at the aforementioned Download festival to a packed Dogtooth Stage following a headline pub and club tour of late 2021.

In October 2021, BRITISH LION withdrew from a U.K. tour with THE DARKNESS, citing "completely unacceptable" tour "protocols."

BRITISH LION's first U.S. tour took place in January and February 2020.

BRITISH LION comprises singer Richard Taylor, guitarists David Hawkins and Grahame Leslie, Harris on bass and keyboards, and drummer Simon Dawson.

Asked by the Tampa Bay Times what the itch is that BRITISH LION scratches that he doesn't get in his job with MAIDEN, Harris said: "I suppose playing small clubs and being close and personal with the audience. I love playing big places as well. I enjoy them all, and I'm very lucky that I can do them all. But also, it's clubs that I never played with MAIDEN, even in Europe. There's a famous club called the Milky Way in Amsterdam, which I managed to play with BRITISH LION, but I never did that with MAIDEN. There's places that I'm playing on [the U.S.] tour that I've never played before. So it's all new ground. It's a challenge. It's nice. I like a challenge."

In a 2020 interview with Bass Player magazine, Harris said that he loves playing small clubs. "I'm very lucky that I can play all types of gigs; massive gigs and small ones as well," he said. "It's a change. I'm not trying to conquer the world with this band; there's not enough years left in me to do that anyway."

Asked if the different venues present a different set of challenges, Steve said: "I actually think it should be the same, whether you're playing for 200 or 200,000 people, you know. To me, there's no difference. You still give 110 percent wherever you're playing. We had one gig where the promoter just didn't do [anything]. I think we had, like, 95 people in there, but it was still a great gig, one of the best of the tour. It doesn't matter. We're still going for it, and I was proud that we went out there. It was fantastic."
