Legendary guitarist Joe Satriani has revealed that CHICKENFOOT in "about ninety-nine percent finished" recording a brand new song and is planning to play a one-off concert in May.

The group, which also includes former VAN HALEN singer Sammy Hagar, ex-VAN HALEN bassist Michael Anthony andRED HOT CHILI PEPPERS drummer Chad Smith, has not made a CD in five years but recently returned to the studio to record a new track, "Before I Die", to be released later in the year.

Speaking to the Northwest Music Scene about CHICKENFOOT's future plans, Satriani said: "It looks like we're going to do a show in the middle of May. I don't think it's public yet, but I don't really care if you mention it. We're getting together, just one show, the original band. I think it's a Lake Tahoe show. We're kind of working around the schedule of Chad, who's got a rehearsal schedule at that point with the CHILI PEPPERS. I'm in between my U.S. and European tours, and I know there's a Benioff Children's Hospital benefit that I do with Sammy and James Hetfield [METALLICA], which comes up about a week before that, so it comes up like right in the middle or early May; maybe the 7th or something like that. And then we've got a track that's pretty much done; it's about ninety-nine percent finished. We actually recorded a song."

He added: "We're the slowest-working band in history; we take forever. But there is stuff happening, and we're still laughing and communicating."

Hagar recently described "Before I Die" as "the coolest song that we've maybe ever had. It's really bluesy and edgy and modern and it's fucking cool."

Hagar also once again clarified comments he made to Rolling Stone magazine where he was quoted as saying that he thinks CHICKENFOOT is finished making albums.

"To go in the studio and spend a half a million dollars to make a great record that's going to sell forty or fifty thousand…. maybe a hundred thousand records, [you] basically pay to play and you're going to lose money on that," he said. "And then you go out and tour with a band that could sell two or three thousand tickets in any city in the world, but, you know, flying around in a private jet and staying in Four Seasons hotels and all of that and with these four guys, we're all rich, so it's like, we don't need the money, but at the same time, to go out and do 60 or 70 shows and come back and make as much as I make in one night after a year of that, is pretty hard."

He continued: "I don't do things for money, but it's pretty difficult to put everything else aside. Because I'm saying, 'Okay, if I'm putting a year of my life aside, I'm not going to make any money, number one. Which I don't need money, it's okay, I can get away with that. But the energy that it takes to do all of that and my fans sit there and hound me, as much as they love CHICKENFOOT, they hound me to go out and do [the songs from my history]. 'We want to hear this song, we want to hear that song,' and I'm going, 'Fuck, now I've gotta go back out and work again, I'm fuckin' beat,' you know?"

Hagar's new band THE CIRCLE, which also features Michael Anthony, Jason Bonham and Vic Johnson, plays hits from Sammy's four decades of rock (MONTROSE, solo, VAN HALEN, THE WABORITAS, CHICKENFOOT) as well as classic tracks from the LED ZEPPELIN catalog.

CHICKENFOOT reissued its gold-selling 2009 self-titled debut as a double-disc set. The new version features bonus live tracks recorded on the group's tour behind its sophomore studio effort, "III"

CHICKENFOOT's most recent touring lineup included legendary drummer/musician Kenny Aronoff, who was filling in for Smith while Chad was on the road with RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS.

"III" sold 42,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 9 on The Billboard 200 chart. The band's self-titled debut opened with 49,000 units back in June 2009 to debut at No. 6.

UK based metalcore band, Reign Eternal, have released a music video for “The Amendment”, a track from their debut Premonitions EP, released back on December 4th.

German thrash metallers Exumer will release their fourth album, The Raging Tides, on January 29th via Metal Blade Records. Check out the track “Catatonic”, streaming below:

Recorded with producer/engineer Waldemar Soychta at Waldstreet Sound in Dortmund, Germany, The Raging Tides is a deliberate and violent thrash attack that stays true to the band's 30 year legacy. Conceptually and lyrically, vocalist Mem V. Stein has based the bulk of the record around human suffering - specifically "caused by torture or other means for political, religious, or personal gain for the individuals/organizations who inflict the pain," Stein asserts. Inspired by a wide range of books and articles, the title of the album itself, according to Stein, "represents the ebb and flow of human misery and despair around the globe."

Dutch blackened death doom metallers, Soulburn, have launched a video for the song “In Suffocating Darkness”, off their current album The Suffocating Darkness, out on Century Media Records. The atmospheric clip, which was directed by Twan van Geel and produced by Pim Voormeulen as well as Dennis Wassenburg, can be seen below.

Soulburn vocalist/bassist Twan van Geel checked in to comment on the clip: “The year 2016 has just emerged from its slumbering decay as we already provide you with our official video for “In Suffocating Darkness”. We hope you'll enjoy our foul taste of obscured dark art as much as we do! Originally Soulburn emerged after a first demise of Dutch death metal legend Asphyx in the mid 90’s, when founding members Eric Daniels (guitars) and Bob Bagchus (drums) looked for a separate outlet to unleash their mutual obsession with Bathory, Venom and Celtic Frost. After a demo and the cult Feeding On Angels debut album via Century Media Records in 1998, which featured Wannes Gubbels (Pentacle) on vocals/bass, Soulburn were put to rest when Asphyx returned with On The Wings Of Inferno (2000) with the same lineup. Soulburn was dead, buried, but not forgotten...

And 16 years after their debut album, Soulburn resurfaced in their new lineup featuring the core of Eric Daniels (guitars) and Bob Bagchus (drums), teaming up with Twan van Geel (Flesh Made Sin, Legion Of The Damned) as vocalist/bassist and Remco Kreft (Grand Supreme Blood Court, Nailgun Massacre, Xenomorph) as second guitarist to create The Suffocating Darkness. Their sophomore album was recorded with Harry Wijering / Harrow Productions) and mix/mastering duties were taken over by Dan Swanö / Unisound Recordings. The frontcover was designed by Timo Ketola (Watain, Deathspell Omega, etc.) and additional art was provided by Roberto Toderico (Sinister, Asphyx, etc.).

The Suffocating Darkness album is still available as special edition CD (in O-Card packaging and with an enhancement of a full-dynamic vinyl mix in high-resolution MP3 format as bonus) or as 180gr. vinyl LP (either on unlimited black vinyl or as limited transparent red vinyl) from CM Distro Europe here.

Florida metal legends NASTY SAVAGE have reunited and are planning to record a brand new studio album this summer. Tours will follow the new disc's release.

NASTY SAVAGE played what was billed at the time as the band's "last concert ever" on May 5, 2012 at the Crowbar in Ybor City, Florida. Fan-filmed video footage of the show can be seen below.

NASTY SAVAGE rose to popularity in the mid-1980s primarily due to lead vocalist "Nasty" Ronnie Galetti's over-the-top stage performances (in early shows Ronnie would smash television sets over his head). After landing a deal with Metal Blade Records, the band released three full-length albums and an EP between 1985 and 1989. NASTY SAVAGE split up a short time later and played some reunion shows in the late 1990s before officially reforming in late 2002.

NASTY SAVAGE's "comeback" album, "Psycho Psycho", was released in Europe in March 2004 through Metal Blade Records. The CD contained 12 songs in total, including a new version of the demo classic "Savage Desire".

On February 26, NASTY SAVAGE's self-titled debut album as well as its follow-up effort, "Indulgence", will be reissued. Both albums will be available on vinyl as well as on digi-CDs. The "Indulgence" CD will feature the four songs of the "Abstract Reality" mini-album as a bonus.

The NASTY SAVAGE vinyls will be released with 400g heavy cardboard spine sleeves (inside out print), 60x60cm artwork posters and 250g inserts.

German metallers RAGE — led by singer/bass player Peavy Wagner — will release a four-track EP on January 22 to coincide with the band's tour with HELLOWEEN.

"This EP will shorten your waiting time until the release of our new album — the first one since 2012 — which will be in the shops next May," reveals Peavy.

"My Way" contains four tracks, including two re-recorded versions of songs from RAGE's 1995 album "Black In Mind" and a brand-new song in both English and Spanish.

Marcos Rodriguez was born in Venezuela and currently resides in Antwerpen, Belgium. The 36-year old guitarist is a die-hard fan of RAGE who met Peavy on RAGE's 30th-anniversary tour when his band SOUNDCHASER provided support on parts of the trek. Vassilios "Lucky" Maniatopoulos has so far primarily made an appearance as the vocalist of the band TRI STATE CORNER. However, the former drum student and drum technician of former RAGE and current TRI STATE CORNER/REFUGE drummer Christos Efthimiadis is also longtime friend of Peavy's.

RAGE's "The Soundchaser Archives" 2CD/DVD box, featuring 30 rare, new and previously unreleased tracks, plus a bonus DVD, was released on May 23, 2014 via Nuclear Blast.

Northern Germany's infernal extreme metal duo, Mantar, have announced the worldwide release date for their forthcoming album. Ode To The Flame will be out on April 15th via Nuclear Blast.

Commented the band: "The title Ode To The Flame is chosen in tradition of the debut record, Death By Burning to maintain the cleansing power of fire as the key theme. Fire is able to reset anything and will erase this planet one day from any plague that's been around. Furthermore it's obviously an ode to passion and iron will. Hail Mary, featuring Bobby Gustafson (Satans Taint, ex-Overkill) John Gallagher (Raven) and Sid Falck (Infectus 13, ex-Overkill), have begun the recording process for the song “To Hell And Back”.

After spending the month of December 2015 on writing their charity song “To Hell And Back”, the band has started recording basic tracks at Blue Halo Studio with engineer Shawn Sanders and at The Porch Studio with engineer Tim Lau. No completion or release date has been set yet, and discussions are ongoing with various parties regarding the best method and format to release the finished song in.

Further, due to the recent loss of both Phil Taylor and Ian “Lemmy” Kilmister, the band did an impromptu recording of a couple of Motörhead songs and are currently considering the option of releasing one of those songs on YouTube.

Hail Mary is a project and the brainchild of Bobby Gustafson, formed for the purpose of writing, recording and releasing the single "To Hell And Back". Everyone involved are donating their services, so that 100% of sales will go to the Cheri Pogue medical fund.

Europe's diabolical death metal force, Belphegor, began their first rehearsal sessions for their new album last Tuesday in Abtenau, Salzburg, Austria.

Mainman Helmuth comments: "Magnificent nature covered in snow that has arrived in the mountains with -11 degrees (12 ºF) here and we're freezing our asses off. Just perfect for creating brutal sound collages. With this currently untitled album we will try to develop and bring everything to a new level, since I have the feeling this is the strongest recording line-up we've ever had. In his review of last night's concert, Kevin Coffey of Omaha.com wrote: "[Singer Ozzy] Osbourne's voice wasn't great. It wasn't awful, really. It simply wasn't very good. On Wednesday, he was sometimes flat. He was sometimes pitchy, occasionally off-key. He almost never hit the notes he was looking for.

"It was the first show of the tour, so maybe his voice will warm up. Maybe they're still working out the sound in his monitors. Maybe it's just that he's 67 years old."

The first U.S. leg of "The End" tour will end on February 27 in New York City. Dates in Australia and New Zealand have been confirmed for April, with European festival shows taking place during the summer.

Regarding "The End" being SABBATH's final tour, guitarist Tony Iommi said: "It's gonna hard at the end to sort of suddenly say, 'That's it,' but it has to come one day. But we're gonna enjoy it until then."

On the topic of the setlist for "The End" tour, Iommi said: "I think with 'The End' being 'The End' tour, we can't go out and play all of the new album [2013's '13']; they wanna hear some of the classics, you know. So we've dug some of the early ones out that we haven't played for a long time. So we will be playing them." Ozzy added: "We're doing songs in this set which I don't think we've played in 45 years."

BLACK SABBATH recently revealed that it is selling a new limited-edition CD titled "The End" at the shows on its farewell tour. The disc features four previously unheard studio tracks left off the band's 2013 reunion album, "13", as well as live versions of four songs from the world tour the band did in support of that disc.

The four studio cuts are "Season Of The Dead", "Cry All Night", "Take Me Home" and "Isolated Man". They feature drums by Brad Wilk.

The live tracks, with drumming from Tommy Clufetos, are "God Is Dead?", "Under The Sun", "End Of The Beginning" and "Age Of Reason". The live cuts were recorded in Sydney, Australia, Auckland, New Zealand and Hamilton, Ontario.

Wilk and Clufetos had to get involved after founding SABBATH drummer Bill Ward withdrew from the reunion after initially agreeing to participate in it.

"13", the first SABBATH full-length studio album in 35 years to feature original members Butler, Iommi and Osbourne, also became SABBATH's first No. 1 album in the U.S. when it was released in June 2013. The band abandoned plans for a follow-up after deciding that the current trek would be its last.

The writing sessions for Blues Of Desperation took Bonamassa back to Nashville, where he’d composed Different Shades Of Blue, to work with some of Music City’s top tunesmiths, people like James House, Tom Hambridge, Jeffrey Steele, Jerry Flowers and Gary Nicholson.

“These are some of the best guys in the business,” Bonamassa raves. "Lyrically, you’ll hear the proverbial trains, mountains, valleys and other blues references about heartbreak and loneliness, but there are also some poignant moments about getting away from the stressful, crazy demands of life and losing yourself with your special someone. I think anybody will be able to relate.”  

Bonamassa and his long-time producer Kevin Shirley (Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Journey) convened at Nashville’s Grand Victor Sound Studios (formerly known as RCA Studio A), and during an intense, five-day period they recorded 11 galvanizing songs with a crack group of musicians including drummers Anton Fig and Greg Morrow, bassist Michael Rhodes, keyboardist Reese Wynans, horn players Lee Thornburg, Paulie Cerra and Mark Douthit, and background singers Mahalia Barnes, Jade McRae and Juanita Tippins.

On January 10th, music legend David Bowie died following an 18 month battle with cancer at the age of 69. Tributes and accolades continue to pour in from the rock / heavy metal community. Keyboard legend Rick Wakeman, who performed on Bowie's classics "Space Oddity" and "Life On Mars", recently offered up a tribute to hin on BBC's Radio 2. Check out the clip below.

In celebration of Bowie’s recently released box set Five Years (1969 -1973), InTheStudio syndicated radio host Redbeard revisited interviews he conducted with Bowie about that highly prolific period in his career, spanning from Space Oddity to the invention of the cosmic character Ziggy Stardust.  These interviews can now be streamed on the InTheStudio syndicated radio show website here and at this location.

“When I was nine or ten I was given books on Jack Kerouac, (Lawrence) Ferlinghetti, (Alan) Ginsberg, (Gregory) Corso and all that whole Beat crowd, and they sort of became early Bibles to me…Initially I thought I was going to be a painter, but I realized there was absolutely no money in that. So for work I became a graphic artist…I enjoyed theatrical music. I enjoyed the idea of interpreting things on stage and creating an otherness of some kind.”

“I think the person I was listening to out of America as much as Little Richard, at that time, would have been Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground. This is really cool (Velvet Underground). I want to sound like this, but English.”

“Hunky Dory probably, for me, was the first recognition that I had this ability to write stories that people found interesting. There were no real characters on Hunky Dory, but the idea of developing little story songs,  as opposed to just mood pieces, it obviously was quite strong in me, and I think it gave me the motivation to propel myself towards something more cohesive as an album.”

"Inferno" sold around 2,100 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 186 on The Billboard 200 chart. The CD was released on May 26, 2014 via Prosthetic Records (except in Japan, where the album was made available through Universal Music). The CD was the 52-year-old musician's first collection of material recorded for the U.S. market since 2003's "Music For Speeding". Among the guest collaborators that appear on the effort are CHILDREN OF BODOM's Alexi Laiho, REVOCATION's Dave Davidson, acoustic flamenco-metal hybridists RODRIGO Y GABRIELA and Friedman's pre-MEGADETH bandmate in CACOPHONY, Jason Becker.

Speaking to Guitar World magazine, Friedman said: Each of the guests on this record took a song from scratch — they would write it and then I would arrange it and add my parts to it. That way we were both invested in it and it's a little bit of a deeper experience."

Friedman described the new album as the most "Marty" record has has done in years. "I figured if I was going to come back to America, I was going to come back big and give people something they want out of me," he told the magazine. "And I know that what they want is not some avant-garde thing. What they want is just the most intense writing and playing I can do."

BLACK SABBATH members Ozzy Osbourne (vocals), Tony Iommi (guitar) and Geezer Butler (bass) spoke to the media in Omaha, Nebraska earlier this week ahead of the kick-off show of the first U.S. leg of the band's "The End" tour. You can now watch the entire question-and-answer session below.

"The End" will start on January 20 in Omaha, ending on February 27 in New York City. Dates in Australia and New Zealand have been confirmed for April, with European festival shows taking place during the summer.

Regarding "The End" being SABBATH's final tour, Iommi said: "It's gonna hard at the end to sort of suddenly say, 'That's it,' but it has to come one day. But we're gonna enjoy it until then."

On the topic of the setlist for "The End" tour, Iommi said: "I think with 'The End' being 'The End' tour, we can't go out and play all of the new album [2013's '13']; they wanna hear some of the classics, you know. So we've dug some of the early ones out that we haven't played for a long time. So we will be playing them." Ozzy added: "We're doing songs in this set which I don't think we've played in 45 years."

BLACK SABBATH recently revealed that it will sell a new limited-edition CD titled "The End" at the shows on its farewell tour. The disc will feature four previously unheard studio tracks left off the band's 2013 reunion album, "13", as well as live versions of four songs from the world tour the band did in support of that disc.

The four studio cuts are "Season Of The Dead", "Cry All Night", "Take Me Home" and "Isolated Man". They feature drums by Brad Wilk.

The live tracks, with drumming from Tommy Clufetos, are "God Is Dead?", "Under The Sun", "End Of The Beginning" and "Age Of Reason". The live cuts were recorded in Sydney, Australia, Auckland, New Zealand and Hamilton, Ontario.

Wilk and Clufetos had to get involved after founding SABBATH drummer Bill Ward withdrew from the reunion after initially agreeing to participate in it.

"13", the first SABBATH full-length studio album in 35 years to feature original members Butler, Iommi and Osbourne, also became SABBATH's first No. 1 album in the U.S. when it was released in June 2013. The band abandoned plans for a follow-up after deciding that the upcoming trek would be its last.

BLACK SABBATH bassist Geezer Butler has denied that original SABBATH drummer Bill Ward's absence from the band's farewell tour is the result of a financial dispute, explaining that Ward "hasn't been well for a long time" and is not physically capable of taking part in a lengthy tour.

Ward stepped away from the SABBATH reunion in early 2012, releasing a statement that asked for what he called a "signable contract" from his bandmates. He was also reportedly insulted when SABBATH offered him a contract stipulating that he would only play a portion of the show each night, with another drummer along to take over.

In a brand new interview with Classic Rock Revisited, Butler was asked why SABBATH just doesn't give Bill the money he is asking for so that the drummer could take part in the band's final tour. He responded: "It's beyond the money thing. It is not really anything to do with that. It is whether he's capable of touring or not. On the '13' tour, he was not on that tour. About a week after we started, he had to go into the hospital for major surgery. We would have had to cancel the tour if Bill was still with us. He hasn't been well for a long time. He's had a couple of heart attacks."

He continued: "You have to face facts when you get to our age and you're not in great, great health, whether you can go out on the road for two years, or whatever. It is a hard life to do. The easy part is when you're on stage playing. It is all of the traveling and everything else that comes with it that is the hard part. I think Ozzy [Osbourne, SABBATH singer], in particular, didn't think Bill would get through it. He certainly wouldn't have got through the first part as he was in the hospital. We can't keep canceling tours just because the drummer can't play."

Butler added: "We started out with Bill on the '13' tour. That is the way we all thought it was going to be, that Bill was going to be part of this whole thing. It just turned out that is wasn't to be. His health has to come first before anything."

Geezer also talked about SABBATH's current touring drummer Tommy Clufetos, who has previously played with Osbourne, Ted Nugent, Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie. He said: "Tommy is absolutely phenomenal. I’ve played with other drummers, but Tommy really gets the way Bill Ward played. A lot of drummers don't play like Bill does. Tommy is just so versatile. He always asks me if he is playing the part right. If he is not doing one particular thing, we will tell him and he will take it in. There are no big ego trips. He just loves playing. Even through rehearsals, he was saying, 'I wish we could go and do gigs' instead of going home when he was done. He has a ton of enthusiasm. He is an amazing drummer. He is a great guy. He doesn't do drugs and he doesn't drink."

Osbourne told The Pulse Of Radio during SABBATH's last tour that Ward was not in shape to participate. "Bill Ward has got the most physically demanding job of the lot of us, 'cause he's the timekeeper," he said. "I don't think personally he had the chops to pull it off, you know. The saddest thing is that he needed to own up to that, and we could have worked around it, whether we had a drummer on the side with him or something."

As recently as last September, Ward insisted that he was quite capable of playing a full concert with the group, despite the bandmembers themselves saying the opposite. He told Ghost Cult magazine: "I was never in a position where I was never able to drum. It's really sad that those statements made about me that inferred that I wasn't able to drum.

"When I'm in the studio, I can play in the studio. I was laying down tracks. We settled in 2011. By August 2011, I was already training and getting trained. You have to ramp up to go out on tour so that takes a different attitude. I started getting into shape for a tour. Touring is completely different to me than being in the studio. So I was already doing that work."

He reiterated: "Never at any time was my drumming impaired, my health impaired or my ability to play drums. I'm so angry about those suggestions and that was going on."

In an interview with Rolling Stone , Ward revealed his terms for a "signable" contract with SABBATH, saying: "I wanted to earn some better money than we had been [paid] in the past for festival gigs. I think it was somewhere like $80,000 for the festivals, which I can hear everybody gasp now, but $80,000 is not a lot of dough when you're playing festivals."

The drummer said he also wanted to receive some publishing money from the group as well as a "secure contract" for the use of his name and likeness.

SABBATH's "The End" tour kicks off on January 20 in Omaha and will encompass about a year, including breaks.

As X JAPAN lay down tracks in a Los Angeles studio for their as-yet-untitled album, Japan's most iconic rock band have announced that the world premiere of the new documentary film from Passion Pictures — "We Are X" — will take place this week at the Sundance Film Festival. "We Are X" explores the evolution, groundbreaking history and hopeful future of the land of the rising sun's most legendary rock group. X JAPAN have sold 30 million singles and albums combined and continue to tour the world performing sold-out shows to massive arenas in 16 countries throughout the U.S. and Europe. On Friday, January 22 at 9 p.m., Yoshiki — songwriter, drummer, classically-trained pianist and the creative force of X JAPAN — will perform live with a string quartet for the first-ever Sundance Festival Base Camp party, presented by Canada Goose. Yoshiki will headline the Festival Base Camp, a new outdoor venue located at Swede Alley, behind Main Street. Other artists confirmed to perform include Dan Deacon, FLYING LOTUS and NEON INDIAN. Saturday, January 23 will mark the world premiere of "We Are X" in the World Cinema Documentary Competition at Prospector Square Theater in Park City at 2:30 p.m. Yoshiki and the film team will be on hand for the red carpet at 2:00 p.m. and a question-and-answer session after the premiere.

SIXX: A.M., the band featuring MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx alongside guitarist DJ Ashba and vocalist James Michael, has hired Dustin Steinke of the Canadian rock group BLEEKER RIDGE as its permanent drummer.

Based in Orillia, Ontario, BLEEKER RIDGE was previously signed to the Canadian branch of Roadrunner Records and completed work on another album with Michael at the production helm.

Steinke made his live debut with SIXX: A.M. in February 2015 at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo, Japan as part of Vampark Fest hosted by the rock band VAMPS. He has since completed a U.S.headlining tour with SIXX: A.M. and is expected to appear on the group's upcoming double album, to be released in two parts this year.

Nikki previously said that SIXX: A.M.'s new effort would contain over 22 songs and would be tied in with a 24-month world tour.

SIXX: A.M.'s third album, "Modern Vintage", was released on October 7, 2014 via Eleven Seven Music.

Chicago Review Press has set a May 1 release date for "Stick It!: My Life Of Sex, Drums, And Rock 'N' Roll", the new autobiography from legendary rock drummer Carmine Appice. The book was co-written by Ian Gittins, who wrote "The Heroin Diaries" with MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx.

I grew up in Brooklyn and so did Peter, and we had belonged to gangs. A lot of my friends went on to be Mafia leaders and are now spending their lifetime in jail for murder. Which I could have been there too, but music saved me from that. My Brooklyn days aren't boring!

"When I joined up with Rod, I was there seven years, that story alone could have been a book. While I was with Rod, I was hanging out with all these movie stars.

"The story goes all over the place and focuses on a lot of different people and a lot of different eras.

"If I didn't know my story and I would read this book, I think I would like it. There's a lot of really cool stories.

"If this book does well, I’m already planning on the next one, which will be vignettes of stories that didn’t make it into this book. When you write a book, you can't have all the details in the book or it gets to be too long."

SLIPKNOT played the song "Skeptic" live for the first time ever this past Monday night (January 18) at the opening show of the band's European headlining tour at Hartwall Arena in Helsinki Finland. Fan-filmed video footage of the performance can be seen below.

"Skeptic" is taken from SLIPKNOT's latest, ".5: The Gray Chapter", which sold 132,000 copies in the U.S. in its first week of release to land at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 chart. SLIPKNOT singer Corey Taylor told Kerrang! magazine about the song: "This is definitely about [late SLIPKNOT bassist] Paul [Gray], absolutely. And it's a song about the kind of person that Paul was, just his love for not only music in general, but for this band, and just how amazing a personality he was. And the name 'Skeptic' refers to the fact that when everything was down and out, when everyone would be in the dumps and negative, or just feeling like nothing could get done, he would be the guy who was completely sceptical of all the odds against us. He'd just be like, 'Screw that! We're gonna do this, and we're gonna do it amazingly.' He was the beating heart of it, and this song is a celebration of who he was."

SLIPKNOT has selected "Goodbye" as the next single from ".5: The Gray Chapter".

SLIPKNOT is nominated in both "Best Rock Album" (".5: The Gray Chapter") and "Best Metal Performance" ("Custer") categories at the 58th annual Grammy Awards, which will be held on February 15 at Staples Center in Los Angeles and broadcast on CBS at 8 p.m. ET.

The self-titled debut album from Nordic Union is set for release on January 29th. The music video for the album track “Hypocrisy” is streaming below.

Nordic Union is the name behind the new musical collaboration, built by Frontiers President Serafino Perugino, between singer Ronnie Atkins of the legendary Danish Hard Rock institution Pretty Maids and the up-and-coming Swedish songwriter and producer Erik Martensson of Eclipse and W.E.T. fame.

The partnership between the two fellow Scandinavians worked well and together they have created some musical magic, which will truly impress the fans of these highly regarded musicians. Atkins says: “The music on the album has a focus on good melodies and there’s some good guitar work as well. I had a good gut feeling ever since I heard the first songs from Erik Martensson, and I was right he’s a very gifted and talented songwriter!”

These songs are guaranteed not to leave your head for a long time. Just have a listen to the gorgeous anthemic opener “The War Has Begun” and some killer melodic gems like “When Death Is Calling,” “21 Guns” and “Hypocrisy” with great hooks and epic guitar riffs. “Wide Awake” can be described as a combination between pop and melodic rock with a modern production.

“While Pretty Maids is still my first priority” explains Ronnie, “the production process and the work on this record went very smoothly. "Livin' Out Loud", the new video from RESURRECTION KINGS — new so-called "supergroup" featuring singer Chas West (TRIBE OF GYPSIES, LYNCH MOB), guitarist Craig Goldy (DIO, GIUFFRIA, ROUGH CUTT, DIO DISCIPLES), bassist Sean McNabb (DOKKEN, GREAT WHITE) and drummer Vinny Appice (DIO, BLACK SABBATH, HEAVEN & HELL) — can be seen below. Everything began with a set of demos Goldy recorded with singer West, a guy with an unbelievable set of pipes.

West said: "It started about five years ago when Craig Goldy contacted me and said he'd like to do something, do a project. 'Let's get together and write.' Because we had played together, doing some covers in an all-star thing called the HOLLYWOOD ALLSTARZ."

Added Goldy: "I was contacted by Serafino [Perugino], the president of Frontiers. He wanted to do an album with famous guys from the '80s, and I was absolutely flabbergasted that they came to me for it, so I was more than happy to say yes."

Said Appice: "Craig told me he was doing this project and he needed somebody to play drums on it, and he'd love for me to come check it out. He played me a couple of songs, I loved it, so I said, 'Yeah, I'll do it.' So I laid all the drum tracks down, sent them back, and I thought it came out great." Frontiers in-house writer and producer Alessandro Del Vecchio (REVOLUTION SAINTS, HARDLINE, RATED X) offered his services to the band and wrote (or co-wrote with Goldy) a few tracks to round out the material that was available.

Regarding the songwriting process for RESURRECTION KINGS' debut CD, Goldy said: "Originally, I had the music [for the song 'Living Out Loud']… I had learned the hard way that you've gotta start off with a good groove, and then you come up with a cool riff and then you come up with some simple chord progressions and then a melody line. And then, once the melody line is established, and we're starting to work on lyrics, that's when you can go back and kind of mess with the chords and stuff to make them more interesting. But we kind of had the outline of the song already, and then I presented that to Chas and him and I just started doing the process that's supposed to be. The first thing he did is just start improvising, what came naturally. So it came from his heart and it came from his talent."

Goldy also spoke about some of the other tracks on RESURRECTION KINGS' debut album which were written by producer Alessandro Del Vecchio. He said: "[Alessandro] is an amazing songwriting [and] a great producer, a keyboard player. I think he plays guitar and stuff as well. He's a great singer too. I can't wait for people to hear how he sings. So some of the demo versions already had vocals, drums, bass and guitar on them. So we would learn the songs, and then we'd do them our way. It was something Alessandro and I called 'Goldy-izing.' 'Cause we would get these demos, and they'd be kind of in an odd kind of shape, and so I would Goldy-ize it and turn it into something that I thought would be more interesting. Once Vinny and Sean got ahold of these songs, they really came alive. 'Cause a lot of the times, songwriters will write demos to drum machines, which is fine, 'cause it's just basically a sketch, and then you turn that sketch into an oil painting. And so when Vinny and Sean got ahold of these songs, it really came alive. So that gave me automatic inspiration on top of a great song that Alessandro had already written." After joining DIO in 1987, Goldy became Ronnie James Dio's right-hand man and went on to co-write such DIO classics as "Dream Evil", "One More For The Road" and "As Long As It's Not About Love".

Dutch symphonic metallers DELAIN will release a new EP, "Lunar Prelude", on February 19 via Napalm Records. Mastered by Grammy Award-winning engineer Ted Jensen, the set offers two brand new songs in the shape of the catchy "Suckerpunch" and the melancholic "Turn The Lights Out". "Don't Let Go" (taken from 2014's "The Human Contradiction") comes in a brand new version, while the EP also contains four incredible live cuts, as well as an orchestral reprise of "Suckerpunch", all of which proving once again how DELAIN are blatantly known for their extremely catchy hooks, bewitching melodies, symphonic bombast, and, of course, a good solid dose of metal!

Falun, Sweden’s blackened death metal one-man project Necrosavant recently signed a deal with Kolony Records. Necrosavant’s debut album Aniara MMXIV, a 45-minute epos based on the 1956’s epic sci-fi poem Aniara: A Review Of Man In Time And Space (original title: Aniara: en revy om människan i tid och rum) by Harry Martinson, will be released on February 26.

The band has unveiled the first excerpt from the via a lyric video created by Necrosavant himself.

Aniara MMXIV features, besides Necrosavant (Jonas Martinsson (Majalis, Me The Tiger)), special guests Tobias Netzell (In Mourning, Majalis, Thenighttimeproject, ex-October Tide), Alexander Högbom (October Tide, Centinex, Moondark, Volturyon, Spasmodic), Daniel Jansson (Ikhon, Majalis) and recitation by Gabriella Åström (Me The Tiger). The production is written, all instruments played, recorded, mixed and mastered by Necrosavant (Jonas Martinsson) and may appeal to fans of Behemoth, Decapitated and so forth.

Commented mastermind Jonas Martinsson: “My fascination for Harry Martinson’s amazing space poem Aniara: A Review Of Man In Time And Space from 1956 inspired me to the point that I interpreted and composed music to it, in my own and unique way. Already in the mid-1950s, Harry Martinson wrote about that human existence and our destiny is in our own hands. That we must break our destructive behaviors for our own and our planet's sake. That we must begin to realize the consequences of our actions. The poem may be just a poem, but if we do not do something about ours and others actions, this planet will go straight to hell. This composition is a lamentation from the perspective where one foot is in the Harry Martinson’s brilliance, and the other foot in my personal musical fusion on the basis of the genre blackened death metal. My version and interpretation is entitled Aniara MMXIV. 

“I started this project in 2014 and I finished now, a year later. It is no news to compose music to this poem. However, it has not been made in this unique way. I have written and recorded everything myself and I play all the instruments, and I have invited fantastic guests.
The unexpected mixture of poetry and dark metal music was shown to be so unique that Kolony Records hooked and wanted to release the album, physical and digital world-wide.
I see this as my way to preserve and convey a cultural treasure, but in a new way. I think everyone should read Aniara.”

Former MORBID ANGEL frontman David Vincent has contributed guest vocals to "Manufacturing Evil", the sophomore album from Des Moines thrash merchants GREEN DEATH. Vincent appears on the track "Gates Of Hell".

"Manufacturing Evil" will be released on April 1 through MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson's EMP imprint through the legendary label Megaforce.

GREEN DEATH was brought to EMP's attention via SLIPKNOT/STONE SOUR frontman Corey Taylor after performing at the 2015 edition of SLIPKNOT's Knotfest. Initially released independently, the reissued version of the critically acclaimed "Manufacturing Evil" will feature some new mixes, mastering, and surprises, including guest vocals by Vincent.

With the core of the band playing together for well over a decade, GREEN DEATH — consisting of vocalist Sol Bales, drummer Ryan Berrier, guitarists Erich Tran and Mark Reinking and bassist Parker Willis — has become a staple in the Midwest metal scene, earning their stripes playing alongside artists like SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, SEVENDUST, TRIVIUM, SLIPKNOT, DYING FETUS and more, and releasing two critically acclaimed LPs.

ANTHRAX members Scott Ian and Charlie Benante joined LAMB OF GOD on stage last night (Tuesday, January 19) at the Tabernacle in Atlanta, Georgia to perform a cover version of the STORMTROOPERS OF DEATH classic "United Forces". Fan-filmed video footage can be seen below.

STORMTROOPERS OF DEATH was a crossover thrash band formed in New York in 1985. They are commonly credited as being among the first bands to fuse hardcore punk with thrash metal into a style sometimes called "crossover thrash." The track "March Of The S.O.D." from "Speak English Or Die" was the "Headbangers Ball" intro song for many years.

After finishing his guitar tracks on the ANTHRAX album "Spreading The Disease", Scott Ian would draw pictures of the face of a character known as "Sargent D." The pictures would be accompanied by slogans such as "I'm not racist; I hate everyone" and "Speak English Or Die," and Ian would write lyrics about this character. He decided to form a hardcore band based on Sargent D, so he recruited ANTHRAX drummer Charlie Benante, ex-ANTHRAX bassist Dan Lilker, and PSYCHOS bassist Billy Milano on vocals.

The 30th-anniversary edition of STROMTROOPERS OF DEATH's classic debut album, "Speak English Or Die", was made available on November 27, 2015 via Megaforce. The set includes the original album as well as the demo recordings from the pre-STROMTROOPERS OF DEATH project CRAB SOCIETY NORTH.

LAMB OF GOD and ANTHRAX are currently touring the U.S. with support from DEAFHEAVEN and POWER TRIP.

Pioneer thrash rock band MEGADETH will give its fans the ultimate cutting edge experience in Virtual Reality. The band recently headed into a special Virtual Reality set-up with director Blair Underwood where they performed and film five songs from their upcoming album "Dystopia": "Fatal Illusion", "Dystopia", "The Threat Is Real", "Poisonous Shadows" and "Post American World".

As a director, DGA member, Underwood directed the 2009 independent feature "The Bridge To Nowhere", as well as several music videos, short films and commercials. The band's performance will appear within the fallen city of a dystopian world modeled after the world created in MEGADETH's new music video for "The Threat Is Real".
