NOCTEM Signs With RISING RECORDS
 Spanish black/death metallers NOCTEM have inked a deal with Rising Records for the release of their new album.
Commented label owner Mark Daghorn: "We are delighted that NOCTEM have chosen to release their new album on Rising Records worldwide and we look forward to a long and successful partnership with the band."
Added the band: "We can proudly say this is a new step to the next level for the NOCTEM's career. Mark Daghorn is a great proffesional and is an honor to work with him in this new album for us."
NOCTEM entered Ultrasound studios in Braga, Portugal in February with producer Daniel Cardoso to begin recording their sophomore album. According to a posting on the group's MySpace page, the follow-up to 2009's "Divinity" will be a "logical progression of the last album, full of new nuances and based in a darker sound and a more complex composition." NOCTEM adds, "This will be the second part of the trilogy that started with 'Divinity'."  | 0 |  |

JAG PANZER: \'Burn\' Video Released
 "Burn", the new video from Colorado power metallers JAG PANZER, can be viewed below (courtesy of AOL's Noisecreep).
"Without question, 'Burn' was the first song that came to mind when we decided to do a video," explained JAG PANZER guitarist Mark Briody during a chat with Noisecreep this week. "We were looking for something that was representative of the whole album. 'Burn' has it all — varied instrumentation, lots of dual guitars, a great solo, and lots of screaming vocals."
"Burn" comes off JAG PANZER's new album, "Scourge Of The Light", which was released on February 28 in Europe (except in Germany, where it will arrive three days earlier) and on March 8 in the U.S. via SPV/Steamhammer Records. In addition to the regular CD version, the effort was made available as a double-vinyl set.
The cover artwork for "Scourge Of The Light" is available below. It was painted by Los Angeles artist Justin Yun.
For the original band members Harry Conklin (vocals), Mark Briody (guitar) and John Tetley (bass), JAG PANZER has always been something they held close to their hearts. "We've known each other from our earliest childhood and have never lost sight of the idea that this band is based on," Tetley explains. "I don't exactly want to use the term 'spiritual', but the three of us are connected with this band by a very special relationship. MORBID ANGEL: New Album Title Revealed
 Florida-based death metal veterans MORBID ANGEL have set "Illud Divinum Insanus" as the title of their eagerly awaited new album, due on June 7 (one day earlier internationally) via Season Of Mist. Prior to the release of the album, a single for the song "Nevermore" will be out on May 16 as seven-inch vinyl and digital download. The B side will be another song from the album, remixed by COMBICHRIST.

OFFICIUM TRISTE Working On New Album
 Dutch doom metallers OFFICIUM TRISTE have issued the following update:
“So, it’s been exactly a year since we lasted posted any news on this website. This doesn’t mean we haven’t done anything. We had to break in our new drummer Niels, we’ve done quite a few shows in 2010 and we have been working on our new album. We have finished writing this album and recordings will start in April in the studio of our keyboard-player Martin in Germany. We have written six songs with an additional intermezzo and an acoustic track. Some of the song titles are: ‘To The Gallows’, ‘Burning All Boats And Bridges’, ‘Your Fall From Grace’, ‘The Wounded And The Dying’, ‘Your Heaven Is My Underworld’ and ‘One With The Sea (Part 2)’. These might change though. The title for the new album will most probably be Mors Viri.
We have fulfilled our contractual obligations with Displeased Records, so we are currently unsigned. We will record the album and shop it around when it is done and we’re positive one or even more labels will be interested. Of course interested labels can get in touch right away as well.
Next to that we can already mention that we came to an agreement with Spanish label Memento Mori to record some exclusive tracks for a split album with our German friends OPHIS. This one should see the light of day in the fall of 2011.
Next to the recordings we have some great gigs lined up for you, so you can catch us on stage again in 2011. In additional news we can mention that Ed Warby has started recording the second full-length of THE 11TH HOUR. As you might know Bram and Pim are part of the live band and can be seen live on stage with The 11th Hour on a couple occasions.
Pim was also asked by AJ of BEYOND BELIEF and Seth of SEVERE TORTURE to provide vocals to their new project called EXTREME COLD WINTER, so keep an eye out for that one too!”

 Belgian "powerfolk" metallers ANGELI DI PIETRA will release their second album, "Anthems Of Conquest", on May 13 via CCP Records. The CD was recorded and mixed at Excess Studios in Rotterdam, Holland and mastered at Hansen studios in Ribe, Denmark.

TIM \'RIPPER\' OWENS, JOE STUMP, AMANDA SOMERVILLE To Guest On DESDEMON Debut
 Vocalist Mistress Tina has quit New York-based female-fronted progressive/gothic metallers DESDEMON. She said in a statement, "I've come to the decision that I don't want to be a part of this anymore. It's not my vision anymore. I'm not putting further damage to my vocal cords. I need to take care of myself."
DESDEMON is currently seeking a replacement singer. Interested parties can contact the group at info@desdemon.com or info@exilemetal.com.
DESDEMON's forthcoming debut album, "Through The Gates", is almost completed. It is described in a press release as "an epic 13 track journey that far surpasses anything the band has done before." As with "The Awakening" EP, Gaetano DiFalco again has provided the masterful illustrations for the albums cover and artwork.

SHADOWSIDE: New Album Title Revealed
 Brazilian female-fronted metallers SHADOWSIDE have set "Inner Monster Out" as the title of their third album, due on June 7 via SHP Records. The CD was produced, mixed and mastered at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden by Fredrik Nordström, who has previously worked with AT THE GATES, IN FLAMES, DARK TRANQUILLITY, ARCH ENEMY, SOILWORK and BRING ME THE HORIZON, among others.
Commented SHADOWSIDE lead singer Dani Nolden: "'Inner Monster Out' is about letting your hidden persona show through, and about everything we always classify as not normal in human beings. The lyrics deal with everyone's fears, reactions, perversions, personality disorders and although it can be seen as a dark album, it also makes it clear that we all have a little bit of crazy and disturbed in a certain way. It's a musically intense album, with lots of angry guitars, bringing together the best of 'Dare To Dream' and 'Theatre Of Shadows', but with new and better things that we didn't try before. VENOM Mixing New Album
 British black metal pioneers VENOM are currently mixing their new album with producer Tom Belton at his London studio. An official release date for the effort has not yet been announced.
Regarding what fans can expect to hear from the next VENOM studio LP, bassist/vocalist Conrad "Cronos" Lant told The Quietus, "The new tracks are tremendous. Basically, if you think of the way [former VENOM drummer] Antton [Antony Lant, who is also Cronos' brother] was playing, especially on the last album 'Hell', he is a nu-metal drummer and comes from that kind of background. He's hung 'round VENOM most of his life and it was just good to introduce him to the whole VENOM concept of playing like the way [original VENOM drummer] Abaddon used to play. Basically Abaddon came from a rock background and then basically developed a black metal, speed metal, thrash metal style. The nu-metal drumming is very different and it was a steep learning curve for him. At the end of the day he's got his own style and he wants to be known for what he's done and not be in my shadow, which is totally understandable. Some of the guys we had coming to the rehearsals were not ex-CRADLE OF FILTH but they were still, 'I've been in this band, I've been in that band,' but they were all far too young, you know. We were looking for someone in their thirties upwards who understood rock music."
When asked how the new songs compare to those off "Hell", Cronos said, "I would say more like those off 'Metal Black'. More like our earlier stuff. 'Hell' was getting a bit too much like session tracks. Too . . . polished. And polish isn't a good word for VENOM songs. VENOM songs need to be off the cuff, loose, a little bit thrash. Once you start polishing songs up a bit much you end up going in the wrong direction. There's a spontaneity about VENOM songs that I've always loved. When we're coming up with new VENOM songs there's one thing that I always try and keep in mind: 'Is that kid in his bedroom on his knees playing air guitar and going 'Yeah! Get in!'' You know? I'm not interested in Joe Satriani sitting there and discussing whether it's technically correct or not! That's the last thing on my mind."

DOWNSPIRIT Announce New Bassist, Drummer; New Band Photo Released
 DOWNSPIRIT, the German/Swiss blues/metal-oriented band formed by SYMPHORCE/ex-FREEDOM CALL guitarist Cedric "Cede" Dupont, announce a new bassist and drummer to their ranks.
Longtime friends Dennis Wohlbold (bass) and Steffen Theurer (drummer) are taking over the rhythm duties from now on.
The band states: "We are so excited to have found such a blasting replacement and enrichment on the rhythm section! Everything sounds killer and we can't wait for you to meet Dennis and Steffen (Theurer) on one of our next shows. OVERTURES - New Album Out Now
 The second album from Italian metallers OVERTURES called Rebirth has been released by Sleaszy Rider Records and is being described as "the best HELLOWEEN album after The Keeper Of The Seven Keys Pt. II, they never released."
The album was mastered by Mika Jussila (CHILDREN OF BODOM, H.I.M., LORDI, NIGHTWISH, EDGUY) at Finnvox studios in Helsinki, Finland and features a guest appearance by Rafahel of ELVENKING and Akos Komondi of HALOR.

ALICE COOPER: New Band Lineup Unveiled
 Legendary rocker Alice Cooper has announced a revamped band lineup for his "No More Mr. Nice Guy" summer tour. The trek will kick off in North America May 12-21, then go to South America May 25 - June 3, and England and the rest of Europe June 7 - July 16, before returning to North America again for the month of August.
Alice is bringing back to his stage show guitarist Steve Hunter, who famously toured and recorded with him for several years. Additionally, Tommy Henriksen will be replacing Keri Kelli on guitar, and Damon Johnson will be continuing with the band, making for a three-guitar attack.
Glen Sobel will be joining the band on drums, replacing Jimmy DeGrasso, while bassist Chuck Garric will continue to anchor the rhythm section.
Said Alice, "Steve's always been one of my favorite guitarists since the first time I ever heard him play, and I've been working with Tommy a lot on the new album. Oh, and yes, a new snake might make the band lineup...you never know. We will miss Jimmy and Kerri, but I know we will be sharing a stage again in the future."
The four surviving ALICE COOPER band members — Alice Cooper (vocals), Neal Smith (drums), Michael Bruce (rhythm guitar), Dennis Dunaway (bass) — will perform at their Rock And Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony on March 14 in New York City, and again at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards show in on April 20 in Los Angeles, California. Guitarist Steve Hunter, who played in Cooper's "Welcome to My Nightmare" band, will fill in for the late Glen Buxton.
During the February 24 press conference to announce nominees and performers for the third annual Revolver Golden Gods awards, Cooper was asked by VH1 Radio Networks' Dave Basner when Alice's recently recorded album, "Welcome 2 My Nightmare", will be released.
"Well, we have a whole big tour of big outdoor festival shows coming up and I didn’t want to get that confused with that album," Cooper said. "So even though the album's in the can right now ready to go, [producer] Bob's [Ezrin] got to mix it and everything like that. I don't really want it to come out until probably next fall and then we'll be able to do the brand new show with it."
"Welcome 2 My Nightmare" was produced by Bob Ezrin, who also worked on the singer's "Billion Dollar Babies", "School's Out" and "Love It to Death" releases.

 A number of hard rock/heavy metal musicians have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts and condolences on the passing of former ALICE IN CHAINS bassist Mike Starr, who was found dead in his Salt Lake City, Utah yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, March 8).

ALICE IN CHAINS Members \'Mourning Loss Of Their Friend\'
 The members of ALICE IN CHAINS have released the following statement regarding the passing of the band's former bassist, Mike Starr:
"Jerry [Cantrell, guitar]and Sean [Kinney, drums] are mourning the loss of their friend and ask that the media respect their privacy — and the privacy of the Starr family — during this difficult time. Their thoughts and prayers are with the Starr family."

AEROSMITH\'s STEVEN TYLER And JOE PERRY \'Smoking The Peace Pipe\'
 AEROSMITH singer Steven Tyler has posted the following message on his Twitter profile:
"AeroFreaks rejoice... Joe [Perry, AEROSMITH guitarist] and I sent smoke signals, shot the shit and chewed the fat for the last year, but just smoked the peace pipe for an hour today. On our way to rockin' your fkin worlds this summer by locking ourselves away somewhere w/guitars and drums..."
Perry last month made it clear that he is still very much a member of AEROSMITH. The guitarist issued a series of posts at his Twitter page reassuring fans that he was still in the group and clarifying why he did not join them in Los Angeles for an eight-day writing session that concluded in early February. Perry's absence was initially reported by Billboard, which said that he was missing because of an "unspecified commitment."
Perry tweeted, "I am in AEROSMITH. I am not going anywhere.The band isn't writing any more. It was only for eight days."
He later responded to a fan question — presumably about rumors that he was leaving the band — by saying, "There's nothing to make up. We are brothers we have been texting back n forth since the tour ended. It's a bunch of BS."
Perry also wrote, "AEROSMITH and I will be writing in the spring. The guys only got together for eight days. I had previous plans could not get out of." He later added, "Steven and I text all of the time. He's my brother in arms, just like Brad [Whitford, guitar], Joey [Kramer, drums] and [bassist] Tom [Hamilton are]. Everything else is a rumor.
AEROSMITH has not written and recorded an album of all-new material since 2001's "Just Push Play". Perry told The Pulse Of Radio recently that he feels the band still has something to prove in the studio. "The bottom line is, we haven't done our best record yet, and we feel like, first of all we owe it to ourselves, and second of all, we owe it to our fans," he said. "That's where it starts and stops."
Plans for a new record have been on and off again for the past couple of years, as Tyler went into rehab and the band threatened to find a new singer after his antics cut a tour short.
After regrouping last summer and hitting the road again, the band was stunned to learn that Tyler had accepted a job as a judge on "American Idol", although he has maintained that a new album will be written and recorded during breaks from the show.

As the winners of Guitar Center's Your Next Record with Slash, the groundbreaking unsigned artist discovery program, the San Mateo outfit recorded a four-song EP with iconic producer Mike Clink (GUNS N' ROSES, MÖTLEY CRÜE, MEGADETH) with Slash performing on the aforementioned track. Recorded at The Village and East West Studios in Hollywood, the single will be featured in the iTunes rock section and distributed by TuneCore.
After sifting through more than 12,000 entries, Slash and Mike Clink handpicked STATE LINE EMPIRE to receive the ultimate career-altering opportunity that included a management development deal with The Collective; a $10,000 Guitar Center shopping spree; new gear; endorsement deals from Ernie Ball Music Man; an opening slot on Slash's Monster Energy Bash; as well an editorial feature in Guitar World magazine and promotion from iTunes.
"Guitar Center and I were looking for a great new rock band that hasn't been able to get a foot in the door otherwise. With STATE LINE EMPIRE, we found that, and this song is very representative of the band," said Slash "It's got a great hook. It's catchy, simple, and not too long — and it just rocks."
"I thought this was a great opportunity to give someone a leg up in the business," said Clink. "For this band to be managed by a great company, to have the support of Guitar Center, to have Slash play on the record, and to have my involvement as well — it's as if you're getting a major label deal."
STATE LINE EMPIRE formed in 2009 and after a whirlwind first few months of songwriting, Tyson Yen, Dave Pearl, Cat and Jay Michaelis found that an exciting chemistry had emerged and the band was born. Their EP titled "Octane" will also be available on iTunes on March 8.
"The whole experience has been amazing. At the time that I got the phone call from Slash telling us that we won, I kinda didn't believe it," said Dave Pearl, bassist for STATE LINE EMPIRE. "This is a dream come true."
Launched with Slash in February 2010, Guitar Center Presents Your Next Record is a first-of-its-kind unsigned band competition. Since this unprecedented collaboration with Slash and STATE LINE EMPIRE, the program has also featured the acclaimed singer/songwriter Keith Urban, who hand-selected Texas' Brandon Green to head to the studio with producer Dan Huff in May and open for Urban on his upcoming tour. LOUDBLAST To Release New Album Next Month
 Veteran French metallers LOUDBLAST will release their new album, "Frozen Moments Between Life And Death", on April 18 via XIII Bis Records. The CD will be available in Germany, Austria, Benelux, Switzerland, Spain, U.K. and Ireland.
"Frozen Moments Between Life And Death" was recorded over a five-week period and was mixed by producer Peter Tägtgren at Abyss Studio in Pärlby, Sweden.

Next STAIND Record Will Be \'Heaviest\' In A Long Time, Says Singer
 According to The Pulse Of Radio, STAIND frontman Aaron Lewis told Billboard.com that the band is about "two-thirds of the way through" the recording of its seventh studio album, which is tentatively slated to come out in late 2011. Lewis described the record as "the heaviest record or collection of songs we have written in a long time. There's no 'Outsides', no 'It's Been Awhiles', no 'Right Heres', anything like that. It's straightforward and heavy . . . the songs I used to bring on the mellower side will now be the embodiment of my solo career, and STAIND can stick to doing the heavier things."
The group is recording the follow-up to 2008's "The Illusion Of Progress" in a converted barn on Lewis' property in rural Massachusetts.
The new disc will be STAIND's final release under its contract with Atlantic Records, and Lewis told The Pulse Of Radio that the quartet plans to explore other options in the future. "There are different ways of doing it that are much more favorable to the artist if the artist has a core fan base that are gonna want to continue to get their music regardless of whether it comes out of a music store on a CD or not," he said.
As for his "mellower side," Lewis is having success with "Town Line", his debut solo EP. The set includes the song "Country Boy", which has scored on both rock and country stations.
Lewis has just launched a solo acoustic tour that will bring him to Snoqualmie, Washington on March 17, with dates booked through early May. Once it's done he'll return to the studio to wrap up the new STAIND record.

HOUR OF 13 Introduces New Singer
 North Carolina doom metallers HOUR OF 13 introduced veteran vocalist Ben Hogg (BIRDS OF PREY, BEATEN BACK TO PURE) during a New York City concert this past Saturday night. He and the band played a powerful set to a packed crowd all there to celebrate the band's recent reissue of "The Ritualist", a modern classic of doom metal. Ben performed superbly and gave the band a stronger presence that will no doubt make the band a force to be reckoned with as widespread touring plans are falling into place in 2011.
HOUR OF 13 guitarist and founder Chad Davis recently had this to say about Ben Hogg: "HOUR OF 13 could not be more pleased with the dedication and amount of work Ben has shown. He is a valuable talent to have in the band. He is a vital presence that we were needing in the fold and thanks to him, we are stronger and more focused than ever."
Shortly before HOUR OF 13's NYC appearance, the audio of Ben Hogg singing to some of the band's best songs during a rehearsal session was posted at this location.
"The Ritualist" — HOUR OF 13's second album — has been fully updated and remastered and features eight tracks of occult-inspired, doom-laden metal.
