HORSE THE BAND To Release Photo Book/Six-DVD Set
 Southern California's HORSE THE BAND has announced plans to release a photo book/six-DVD set featuring 15 hours of high-definition footage taken from 120 hours of raw material the group amassed during its 2008 45-country, three-month round-the-world tour. The band states, "Think of this not as a DVD or movie, but more like a novel in video form. Something you spend a lot of time with to reap a greater artistic reward for your soul. A rock odyssey, but something even greater, as rock is only one of many parts of the equation!"
According to HORSE THE BAND, "the DVDs will be nestled into the back cover of a hardcover full-color photo book. This will be either 50 or 100 pages. It's going to be 8 1/2" by 11" so it's big but still fits on your bookshelf. The books will be one of a kind with actual tour artifacts (ticket stubs, fliers, plane tickets) incorporated (sewn, pasted) into each. The books will be hand-bound (professionally, it will NOT fall apart, they will look and feel exactly like any book you buy in a store, quality-wise) and will be very beautiful and special items. The photo book will contain the best of the best pictures from tour and will follow the tour chronologically, so you can reference the photos while watching the DVD. Each member will write their memories of or explain specific photos which need explaining. There will be a lot of written content from the touring party including comments intended to humiliate other band members."

CASANOVA: Debut Album Reissue To Include Seven Bonus Tracks
 Tribunal Records has set an April 13 release date for the reissue of the 1990 self-titled debut album from the German hard rock band CASANOVA.
Though CASANOVA may not have become a household name in the '90s hard rock scene, it wasn't for a lack of great songs and drive to succeed.
CASANOVA's roots began in such classic and esteemed German hard rock/heavy metal bands such as MAD MAX and WARLOCK.
Formed in 1990 when WARLOCK super-producer Henry Staroste brought Michael Voss and Michael Eurich together, CASANOVA's debut album eventually sold 170,000 copies.
"Casanova" has been out of print for years and was never actually released in the United States until now. With supplies diminishing over the years, the price of obtaining an original copy of "Casanova" has skyrocketed to prices exceeding the $100 mark. So with it being the band's 20th anniversary, Tribunal has decided to present a new deluxe edition of the album which includes not only remastered audio, but seven bonus tracks.

JON LORD: New Album Samples Available
 Former DEEP PURPLE keyboardist Jon Lord will release his next album, "To Notice Such Things", on March 29 through Avie Records.
Audio samples of three songs from the LP — "As I Walked Out One Evening", "Evening Song" and "Turville Heath" — are available for streaming in the YouTube clip below.
Titled after the main work — a six movement suite for solo flute, piano and string orchestra — the album was inspired by, and is dedicated to the memory of Jon's dear friend Sir John Mortimer, the English barrister, dramatist, screenwriter, author and creator of British television series "Rumpole of The Bailey", who died in January 2009.
"He was a great friend and a great inspiration to me and I hope my love and respect for him comes out in the music," says Jon.
"A few weeks after he passed away, I was offered a commission to write a piece for solo flute and strings — a flute concerto in essence. At first I turned it down because I thought there wasn't enough time, but after a couple of days of thought, I realized that I had these three little pieces for flute and piano that I had written for the theater shows that I used to do with Sir John, and I thought that they might provide the basis for this 'flute concerto' and that I could write in his memory.
"John and I became friends about 12 years ago. A couple of years later he asked if I would be interested in playing the piano and writing a bit of music for him, for his theater shows — Mortimer's Miscellany — during which he sat on the stage and, accompanied by two actresses, a pianist and a flute player, he read poetry and prose, told stories and jokes and related hilarious legal anecdotes, giving his wonderfully wise and witty take on life, love and the law."
The music written for those shows has now evolved into Jon's new album, "To Notice Such Things".
"There was a total of about six minutes of music which has now grown into a 27-minute suite for solo flute, piano and string orchestra," Lord says. "I wrote it during March, April and May, and it was an emotional yet fascinating experience to work on it when John's presence was still so very strong. In fact it still is, but back then he had only just passed away.
"I think he's pretty much in every note of the piece and I'm really pleased with it, because I think he would be happy with what my thoughts about him are."
The suite ends with a movement called Afterwards, named after the Thomas Hardy poem that John Mortimer used to read at the end of his show.
Both the Suite itself and the album are called "To Notice Such Things" because the last line of the Hardy poem are "He was a man who used to notice such things."
The all-instrumental album was recorded at the end of last September with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Clark Rundell with Cormac Henry on flute, and also features three additional pieces.

SPIRITUAL BEGGARS Recording New Album
 SPIRITUAL BEGGARS, the Swedish band featuring ARCH ENEMY guitarist Michael Amott, has entered the studio to begin recording its new album for a late 2010 release. According to Amott, Sharlee D'Angelo finished up his bass tracks in two days. "It's very heavy and with a groove and swagger that only the D'Angelo/[Ludwig] Witt [drums] combo can deliver!" he added.
SPIRITUAL BEGGARS' last album, "Demons", was released in Europe in June 2005 via InsideOut Music. The follow-up to 2002's "On Fire" was recorded at Slaughterhouse Studio with Rickard Bengtsson and was mixed by Fredrik Nordström and Patrik J. Sten at Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden. Mastering duties were handled by Göran Finnberg. The album cover art was conceived by Niklas Sundin of Cabin Fever Media.

THUNDERBOLT Recording New Album
 Norwegian melodic metallers THUNDERBOLT have entered the studio to begin recording their as-yet-untitled third CD for a late 2010 release. The band states, "Tony Johannessen is now putting on the vocal and we hope to mix the album late in April."

NEVERMORE\'s \'The Obsidian Conspiracy\' To Be Released In Europe A Week Earlier
 Century Media Records has set a May 31 European release date (June 8 in North America) for "The Obsidian Conspiracy", the long-awaited new album from Seattle metallers NEVERMORE.
The drum tracks for "The Obsidian Conspiracy" were completed in the group's hometown of Seattle with SOILWORK guitarist Peter Wichers, who previously worked with Dane on the singer's solo debut, "Praises to the War Machine". Longtime friend and collaborator Andy Sneap (MEGADETH, ARCH ENEMY, EXODUS, MACHINE HEAD) once again handled mixing duties.

We all know people who have made these huge mistakes and it's a really difficult thing to explain, especially when they come from the same place and common background. They don't just turn their backs on their friends because it's as if they're turning their backs on themselves, shutting themselves into a reality that can offer nothing but stress, violence and wickedness. Thank goodness we had the outlet of hardcore to help us vent our frustrations, or we all might have found ourselves in a similar place.

UNLEASHED: Another New Song Posted Online
 The title track of "As Yggdrasil Trembles", the tenth full-length album from Swedish death metal veterans UNLEASHED, is available for streaming on the band's MySpace page. Due on March 19 in Europe and April 6 in the U.S. via Nuclear Blast Records, the CD was recorded at guitarist Fredrik Folkare's Chrome studio, and is "the logical continuation from 'Midvinterblot' [2006] and 'Hammer Battalion' [2008]," according to the group. "Lyrically, you will recognize what has become the UNLEASHED trademark since more than 20 years, the combination of the past, present and future of viking struggle and way of life. A few of the songs also mark the beginning of a story never before told."

SIC Taps HATESPHERE Drummer For New Album - Mar. 12, 2010
 SIC, the hardcore/thrash metal band from the Faroe Islands, has recruited Danish drummer Dennis Buhl (HATESPHERE) for the recording sessions of its sophomore album, "Fighters The Bleed", tentatively due in the fall.
Drummer Magnus Hansen left SIC in December 2009 in order to sort out personal matters.

MIKE PATTON\'s MONDO CANE To Release Debut In May
 Mike Patton's (FAITH NO MORE, PEEPING TOM, TOMAHAWK) Italian language rock-meets-orchestra hybrid MONDO CANE will release its self-titled debut album on May 4 via Ipecac Recordings.
Recorded at a series of European performances including an outdoor concert in a Northern Italian piazza, the CD features traditional Italian pop songs as well as a rendition of ENNIO MORRICONE's "Deep Down". Patton worked with a 30-piece orchestra and choir to create the uniquely new MONDO CANE sound.

"Fever" pairs BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE with producer Don Gilmore, best known for his work with LINKIN PARK and GOOD CHARLOTTE.

EDEN\'S CURSE Begins Recording New Album
 Multinational melodic metallers EDEN'S CURSE have entered Higher Studios in Tewkesbury, England, to begin recording the drums for their third album, "Trinity". The band aims to complete the tracking process for the CD in the summer, under the tutelage of longtime producer Dennis Ward (PINK CREAM 69, ANGRA, KROKUS), for a tentative October release. Songtitles set to appear on the album include "Saints Of Tomorrow", "No Holy Man", "Can't Fool The Devil", "Jerusalem Sleeps" and a very special cover tune from one of the group's biggest influences.
"Trinity" will mark the band's recording debut with new keyboard player Alessandro Del Vecchio (GLENN HUGHES, IAN PAICE, MOONSTONE PROJECT, EDGE OF FOREVER).

LD/50 Adds SCORCHED-EARTH POLICY Bassist
 LD/50, the San Francisco, California-based band featuring Glen Alvelais (TESTAMENT, FORBIDDEN) on guitar, Clark Brown (GEEZER) on vocals, and Jeremy Colson (STEVE VAI, MARTY FRIEDMAN) on drums, has announced the addition of bassist Terry Goss (SCORCHED-EARTH POLICY) to the group's ranks.
According to a press release, LD/50 (which is the abbreviation for "Lethal Dose at 50%") is "like a culture of extreme that has steadily built their fan base to the point of iconic recognition. . . The band has a unique style of perfecting the groove. Mixed with thrash explosive guitar and solos, LD/50 is a band that is not afraid to go into a ballad-style song with growling, screaming vocals and then run into a melodic guitar solo and end with a tricky syncopated rhythm."
Brown, who sang on the last two solo albums from BLACK SABBATH bassist Terry "Geezer" Butler — 1997's "Black Science" (released under the GEEZER banner) and 2005's "Ohmwork" (under G/Z/R) — previously stated about involvement with LD/50, "I tell ya, when Glen called me up to get this thing going, I was fuckin amped!!! I was a big fan of FORBIDDEN back in the day. I remember covering 'Forbidden Evil' in one of my old bands."
He added, "This new stuff we are writing has really brought the best outta me. Every new song Glen hands me is getting better and better. I am constantly blown away. It makes my job so easy as a singer. The vocals just flow outta me like fuckin water!
"I love the dynamics that we are creating; it can be heavy as fuck, to melodic and mellow but always moving and pulling the listener from one end of the spectrum to the other.

Frontiers Records are set to release the new ASIA album
 Frontiers Records are set to release the new ASIA album "Omega" on 16th April (revised date) in Europe and 4th May in the US.
ASIA, rock’s first important super-group of the 80s - featuring members from Yes, Emerson Lake & Palmer, King Crimson and The Buggles – will release Omega, its highly anticipated new album of original material. The record is due in the spring of 2010 on Frontiers Records.
Begun during the summer 2009, the writing and recording sessions of Omega, immediately showed inspiration and good feelings. “We were looking to create something different with Omega,” says keyboardist Geoff Downes. “Of course, the sound of the 4 band members of Asia will always have a certain hallmark when we play together. That's a given. But we approached the song writing with a mind to getting a degree of variety into these compositions. Hence, you will hear areas of textures where arguably we have never gone before.”
As with the most popular of ASIA releases, the cover art specifically designed for the project by acclaimed artist Roger Dean. The concept of the title (Omega), and the 'Year of the Tiger' referencing of the cover art underline the fact that this is real Asia. John Wetton explains: “The title 'Omega', as any fan of the band will tell you, is 'very Asia' (as is the album, by the way). It no more means 'final' than 'Alpha' means 'the first' (which it wasn't). It's a great sounding/looking word, and a bookend to 'Alpha'. In many ways, musically and conceptually, the two albums share commonality.”

CRIMINAL: \'Incubus\' Video Released
 Anglo-Chilean thrash masters CRIMINAL have just released a new music video for the song "Incubus". The clip, which can be viewed below, was directed and edited by renowned Chilean visual artist Carlos Toro, who has previously worked with KREATOR, VADER, LACRIMOSA and MERCENARY, among others.
"Incubus" comes off CRIMINAL's latest album, "White Hell", which was released in February 2010 by Germany's Massacre Records. The CD is being widely hailed as the band's finest record to date.

AMON DUUL 2 new album

Experimental music pioneers Amon Duul 2, whose music defined the German progressive rock scene of the 1970's, are back with a new album Bee As Such. Currently only available by download through the band's website, the CD marks the first new album by the legendary group in several years. Amon Duul 2 reveal on their website: "Recorded April 2009 at Dreamscape Studio, Amon Duul 2 celebrated a highly sensitive performance, of finding back to the roots - not in the past, but essentially - seeking the new sounds and contents at the same time. No 'kraut', no '70s', but the music of the new millenium. This sound painting is one more of our unique works, containing the spirit of our time."
"Amon Duul never used to present the same style on their albums," explains guitarist John Weinzierl "We like to develop our music into all kinds of directions and sometimes we don´t even know where it´s gonna lead us. We don't follow a pattern only because it is successful. Since 2000 we´ve used lots of elements of world music, we had eastern influences, ethnological sounds, and of course we never forgot 'sound painting'." When asked if there was a concept behind this new album? Weinzierl expounded, "Avoiding industry music, heading for new frontiers."

KIUAS - New Lustdriven Track Streaming Online
 Finland's KIUAS have posted another new track from their upcoming album, Lustdriven. Check out 'The Visionary' on the band's MySpace page.
Lustdriven will be released on March 31st in Finland, April 26th in the UK via Spinefarm. Other countries will be announced soon.

BEFORE THE DAWN\'s \'Decade Of Darkness\' To Be Released In Europe With Bonus DVD
 Finnish dark metal masters BEFORE THE DAWN will celebrate their 10th anniversary with the release of a brand new EP. Entitled "Decade Of Darkness", the seven-song effort will hit the stores in Finland and the rest of Scandinavia via Stay Heavy Records on March 31. The rest of Europe will receive effort in September via Cyclone Empire in a special package that will include a bonus DVD, "Live At Summer Breeze 2009".

SOLUTION .45: Another Song Available For Streaming
 "The Close Beyond", a brand new song from the Swedish/Finnish progressive metal "supergroup" SOLUTION .45 — which features in its ranks former SCAR SYMMETRY vocalist Christian Älvestam and Jani Stefanovic (MISERATION, ESSENCE OF SORROW) — is available for streaming at Metal-Hammer.de. The track comes off SOLUTION .45's debut album, "For Aeons Past", which is scheduled for release on April 9 in Europe via AFM Records. The CD was recorded at Panic Room studios in with producer Tomas "Plec" Johansson and will be made available in Japan through Marquee/Avalon. The album features lyrics written entirely by Mikael Stanne of DARK TRANQUILLITY. The cover artwork was created by Pär Olofsson.

CHRIS CORNELL Guests On GABIN Album
 Singer Chris Cornell (SOUNDGARDEN, AUDIOSLAVE) makes a guest appearance on the track "Lies" from the Italian nu-jazz band GABIN. The song is featured on GABIN's brand new album, "Third And Double", which is described as a "mixture of new jazz, soul, electronic and funk." According to GABIN, "Lies" is "one of the most personal and intimate songs on the record." Other guest singers on the album include international artists Gary Go, Flora Purim, Z-Star, Nadeah Miranda of NOUVELLE VAGUE and Barbara Casini.
Various extracts from every track on the album are streaming at the official GABIN web site.
The album is available via iTunes in Italy and other retail outlets.

Former WARNING Singer\'s 40 WATT SUN Completes Work On Debut Album
 40 WATT SUN, the new project led by Patrick Walker, the singer, guitarist and songwriter of the legendary British doomers WARNING, will release its debut album, "The Inside Room" ( cover), in June/July via Cyclone Empire Records. The band's sound "is characterized by a melodic, down-tempo song-writing style, sparse arrangements and introspective lyrical themes," according to a press release.
40 WATT SUN's lineup is rounded out by drummer Christian Leitch (guitarist and songwriter of THE RIVER) and bass player William Spong.
40 WATT SUN will perform at the Doom Shall Rise VII festival in Göppingen, South Germany the weekend of April 9-10, 2010. | 0 | |

NECROPHOBIC: \'Revelation 666\' Video Released
 "Revelation 666", the new video from Stockholm, Sweden-based death/black metallers NECROPHOBIC, can be viewed below. The clip was directed by Magnus af Göthlund.
"Revelation 666" comes off NECROPHOBIC's latest album, "Death To All", which was released in Europe in May 2009 via Regain Records.

FIREBIRD Mastering New Album
 FIREBIRD, the British power trio led by CARCASS/ex-NAPALM DEATH guitarist Bill Steer, is currently mastering its new album, tentatively titled "Double Diamond", for a summer 2010 release. The CD features ten songs recorded at Graveland studios in 's-Graveland, Holland during January.
FIREBIRD last fall parted ways with bassist Smok Smoczkiewicz "due to personal reasons." Following his departure, Australia's Tom Sutton was drafted in to play bass with the group for a landmark appearance at Loud Park festival in Tokyo. A week later FIREBIRD performed on the main stage at Damnation Festival in Leeds, this time with Terry Waker handling bass duties. The year was rounded off with a Swedish tour, featuring initially Tom Sutton on bass and then Greyum May, formerly of THE BLACK HAND.
FIREBIRD's fifth album, "Grand Union", was released in the U.S. on June 23, 2009 via Rise Above Records' new North American distribution deal with Metal Blade. The CD, which came out in Europe on April 20, 2009, was recorded and mixed over a two-week period in May 2008 at Berno studios in Malmö, Sweden where FIREBIRD's second album, 2001's "Deluxe", was conceived.

TENPOINT Featuring Ex-RIOT/MASTERPLAN Singer: \'Killing Me\' Video Released
 TENPOINT, the project including vocalist Mike DiMeo (RIOT, THE LIZARDS, MASTERPLAN) has released an official video (see below) for the song "Killing Me". The track is featured on the band's EP release, "Northern Rock".
TENPOINT is preparing to enter the studio to begin recording its first full-length debut for a tentative summer release. DiMeo just returned from Europe where he played keyboards and sang some cover tunes for Vinnie Moore (UFO) on the guitar legend's first solo tour of Europe.
DiMeo, regarded as one of the finest vocalists in the heavy rock scene, first came to prominence after joining the legendary New York City band RIOT prior to the recording of 1994's "Nightbreaker". He went on to record six studio albums and one live album with the group before departing to join MASTERPLAN for the recording of "MK II" in 2006.
