BEHEMOTH Frontman Formally Charged For Bible Destruction
 According to Interia.pl and GazetaPrawna.pl, vocalist/guitarist Adam "Nergal" Darski of Polish extreme metallers BEHEMOTH was formally charged on Monday (March 8) for insulting Roman Catholics.
Darski made headlines in his native country in September 2007 when he reportedly called the Catholic Church "the most murderous cult on the planet" during a BEHEMOTH performance in Gdynia and tore up a copy of the Bible onstage (see video below).
After the incident, Ryszard Nowak, head of the All-Polish Committee for Defense Against Sects sued BEHEMOTH for promoting Satanism. Although a court expert witness on religious matters said that the act of destroying the Holy Bible could offend somebody's religious feelings (a criminal offense under Polish law), the case was discontinued because no one except Nowak accused BEHEMOTH of insulting their religious beliefs. (Under Polish law, there must be at least two formal complaints before a charge is laid. The previous complaint was made in 2008, and recently an unspecified number of other complaints had been filed.)
Nergal is pleading not guilty to the charge.
According to Metal As Fuck, in the first hearing, under cross examination, Darski stated what he does on stage is part of artistic license and it wasn't supposed to offend religious feelings. However, an expert on religious history and studies from Jagellonian University in Krakow stated that every copy of a bible could be considered a religious icon.
There was no judgment ruled against Darski in the first hearing, but now that a second complaint has been filed, the matter will be heard by the courts.
If found guilty, Darski faces up to 2 years in prison.

DESTRUCTION Parts Ways With Drummer
 Drummer Marc Reign has left German thrashers DESTRUCTION due to "personal and musical differences" caused by "tour stress," according to a statement released by the band. The group adds, "Marc will concentrate on his rock project VOLCANO and wants to keep himself open for other musical styles. He wants to thank all the DESTRUCTION maniacs worldwide and the band for all the great fun and support over all those years!"
All previously announced shows will go ahead with a replacement drummer.
DESTRUCTION is currently writing new material that will "go more back to the roots," according to bassist/vocalist Marcel "Schmier" Schirmer.
"A Savage Symphony - The History Of Annihilation", the new DVD from DESTRUCTION, will be released in North America on April 13. The disc was produced by Berlin, Germany's Roax Films and will include footage of the group 25th-anniversary concert at the 2007 edition of the Wacken Open Air festival in Wacken, Germany (featuring many special guests, including former bandmembers), a band documentary and tons of bonus live material.

CHILDREN OF BODOM In Writing Mode
 Bassist Henkka Seppälä (a.k.a. Henkka T. Blacksmith) of Finnish metallers CHILDREN OF BODOM has issued the following update:
"It is great to have a new rehearsal space. We can rehearse whenever and as long as we want. And this is a new thing for us as a band. So making new songs is now really different than before.
"It's been really exciting, once again, to gather at the rehearsal space and start jamming the new ideas Alexi [Laiho, guitar/vocals] has in mind for. I'm really excited now, and looking forward every day to get there again to see what's new this time.
"Soon we will jam some old songs too, since we have these three shows in Finland next month.
"It s been quite a long time since last live show, so that is a fresh thing to do also, the small Fenno-tour. And we've never played in Sotkamo area!!!
"We will enter the studio in the middle of next summer. And then we will take our time to track the stuff, then mix it and master it. Then the labels need their time to prepare the release... so unfortunately the release won't be this year, that's for sure. We will let you know as soon as we know the date.
"When the tracking is done, the rest of the summertime we will spend at some summer festivals in Europe. And, we will put some footage, diary thingies, from the studio, that's for sure!"

Legendary Actor CHRISTOPHER LEE To Release His Music Album
 Legendary actor Christopher Lee, who has appeared in such cinematic milestones as "Lord Of The Rings", "Star Wars", "The Man with the Golden Gun" and "Dracula", to release a concept effort with original words and symphonic metal music, "Charlemagne" will be released on March 15 via via Charlemagne Productions Ltd.
Composer Marco Sabiu, best known for his collaborations with Kylie Minogue, TAKE THAT, Pavarotti and Morricone, has created a truly epic canvas by introducing modern metal symphonies, in a style which resembles a movie score. Marie-Claire Calvet, a graduate from Bristol University, transports the listener into "The Dark Ages", with a very powerful storyline and mesmerizing lyrics. A full orchestra, heavy metal musicians, choir and special guest vocalists bring the legend of Charlemagne to life.
The Carandinis, Lee's maternal ancestors, were given the right to bear the coat of arms of the Holy Roman Empire by the Emperor Frederick Barbarossa. Through his Carandini ancestors, Christopher Lee has a direct link to Charlemagne, and has decided for the first time in his life to pay homage to his distinguished ancestor, who is credited as The Father of Europe.
Lee, 87, has previously collaborated with MANOWAR and RHAPSODY OF FIRE.

SOULFLY\'s \'Omen\' Delayed
 The release date of SOULFLY's seventh album, "Omen", has been pushed back to May 25 from the previously announced May 4 (via Roadrunner Records).
Video footage of SOULFLY performing a brand new song, "Lethal Injection" — featuring a special guest appearance on vocals by PRONG mainman Tommy Victor — on March 6, 2010 at the Culture Room in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida can be viewed below.
"Lethal Injection" will appear on SOULFLY's seventh album, "Omen", which is scheduled for release on May 25 via Roadrunner Records.
SOULFLY is currently touring North America with PRONG, INCITE and ROTTING CORPSE.
In other news, SOULFLY bassist Bobby Burns has uploaded the fourth in a series of webisodes featuring behind-the-scenes footage from the band's current North American tour with PRONG, INCITE and ROTTING CORPSE. Watch the clip below.
SOULFLY will film a video for a yet-to-be-named track from "Omen" during the March 17, 2010 live performance at the Chance Theater in Poughkeepsie, New York.
"Omen" was recorded at Edge Of The Earth studios in Hollywood, California with co-producer Logan Mader (MACHINE HEAD, DIVINE HERESY, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY, GOJIRA, DEVILDRIVER) and it features guest appearances by THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN frontman Greg Puciato and PRONG mainman Tommy Victor.
Of the collaborations, guitarist/vocalist Max Cavalera says, "The first one is a song with Tommy Victor from PRONG sharing vocals on a song called 'Lethal Injection'. The other is 'Rise of the Fallen', with shared vocals from Greg Puciato, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN's singer. I also recorded two B-sides with both of my sons playing drums. STRYPER Begins Recording Covers Album
 Christian hard rockers STRYPER entered the studio yesterday (Saturday, March 6) to begin recording an album of covers, to be released later in the year. The CD will include STRYPER's renditions of the following classics:

"We grew up listening to many different styles of music and there is a list of bands that influenced us throughout our musical education. Bands like JUDAS PRIEST, IRON MAIDEN, SCORPIONS, VAN HALEN, UFO, DEEP PURPLE, LED ZEPPELIN, QUEEN, KANSAS and many others, helped to shape our sound and make us who we are today, musically speaking.
"We grew up on the streets of L.A. playing every club in town from Gazzari's to The Whisky to The Troubadour to you name it. We played covers from all the bands mentioned above and we shaped our own sound from listening and performing songs from these classic bands.
"We wanted to step outside the box and record a record that shows you, the fans, where we come from — our historical, musical roots so to speak. It's a side to STRYPER that no one has really seen or heard before, or at least quite like this.
"We performed 'On Fire' by VAN HALEN on a few tours and we also performed 'Breaking The Law' by PRIEST on this last tour. The response was far beyond our expectations each time we performed these songs. People seemed genuinely surprised to hear STRYPER cover these songs and even more surprised to hear STRYPER perform these songs relatively well.
"This will be an opportunity for Robert [Sweet, drums], Oz [Fox, guitar], Tim [Gaines, bass] and myself to loosen up and have some fun.
"For those of you who may think that we're walking away from our faith — you're wrong. We've never been more serious about our faith at any point in our lives. It is, however, important to enjoy what you do and lighten up from time to time. That's what we plan to do.
"This will be a fun record to make and we hope that this comes through, as well as the chance to showcase the abilities that we've been blessed with."

DRAGONFORCE Confirms Singer\'s Departure
 s first reported by BLABBERMOUTH.NET yesterday, British extreme epic power metallers DRAGONFORCE have now officially confirmed the departure of lead singer ZP Theart.
"It is with great regret that DRAGONFORCE announce a parting of the ways with singer ZP Theart," the group writes in a statement. "This is due to insurmountable differences of musical opinion but the rest of the band sincerely wishes ZP great success with his future projects.
"While the creative core members have begun writing the fifth album, they have also started a worldwide search for a new vocalist."
"We are looking for a powerful, melodic singer to write a new chapter of DRAGONFORCE with us," added guitarist Herman Li.

DRAGONFORCE's latest album, 2008's "Ultra Beatdown", sold 24,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 18 on The Billboard 200 chart.

TRIPTYKON: Audio Samples Of Entire \'Eparistera Daimones\' Album Available
 Short audio samples of all nine songs that will appear on "Eparistera Daimones" — the forthcoming debut album by TRIPTYKON, the group founded by former HELLHAMMER/CELTIC FROST singer and guitarist Tom Gabriel Warrior — are available for streaming on Amazon.com.
"Eparistera Daimones" is not only musically a leviathan. Remarkably, the album will also feature the epic artwork by renowned Swiss artist H.R. Giger and New York-based surrealist Vincent Castiglia.
In an exceptionally rare gesture, H.R. Giger has granted TRIPTYKON the use of his dramatic painting "Vlad Tepes" (work no. 412, 200 x 140 cm, acrylic on paper on wood, 1978). It is the artist's first authorized appearance on an album cover in 17 years, and the second time he collaborates with Warrior (following CELTIC FROST's "To Mega Therion" album in 1985).
Vincent Castiglia contributes "Triptykon", a specially created portrait of the members of the group, painted in the artist's own blood (86 x 86 cm, blood/iron oxide on archival paper, 2009). As Castiglia aptly put it, the amalgamation of works by H.R. Giger, Vincent Castiglia, and TRIPTYKON on "Eparistera Daimones" forms a creative triptych in itself.
Comments H.R. Giger: "I am very proud to work with TRIPTYKON. My art hasn't appeared on an album cover for quite some time, and I feel honored to have been approached by Tom about such a collaboration for TRIPTYKON's very first release."
Adds Vincent Castiglia: "It's been a tremendous honor to work with both TRIPTYKON and H.R. Giger on the forthcoming release of 'Eparistera Daimones'. It was a project of enormous depth for me, conceptually as well as visually. EVERY TIME I DIE: \'After One Quarter Of A Revolution\' Video Released
 "After One Quarter Of A Revolution", the new video from Buffalo's hardest-rocking band EVERY TIME I DIE, can be viewed below. The song comes off the group's latest album, "New Junk Aesthetic", which sold around 12,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 46 on The Billboard 200 chart.

 The MELVINS will release a new album, "The Bride Screamed Murder", on June 1 via Ipecac Recordings. A U.S. tour will launch the same day in San Diego and include a stop at the Bonnaroo Festival.
"The Bride Screamed Murder" is the third release featuring Buzz Osborne, Dale Crover and BIG BUSINESS's Coady Willis and Jared Warren.
While the MELVINS recently celebrated their twenty-fifth anniversary, the latest incarnation debuted with the highly-praised "(A) Senile Animal" (2006) and continued with "Nude With Boots" (2008).

Israeli METALLICA Fans Reach Agreement With Promoter, End Concert Boycott
 Israeli fans of the legendary heavy metal band METALLICA have ended their boycott of the group's May 22 concert at the Ramat Gan Stadium in Tel Aviv after reaching an agreement with the show's promoter about a significant drop in ticket prices.
The fans created a Facebook page to initiate a boycott of the concert after learning that the cheapest tickets for the show were going for around $159. According to the creators of the page, METALLICA tickets around the world were being sold for significantly less than the tickets that were available for purchase for the Tel Aviv gig.
The show's promoter Marcel Avram was said to be behind the high ticket prices, according to Metal Israel.
The fans were proposing that the price should range from 300 to 600 shekel or around $80 to $160, depending on the seat quality, which they insisted was still high, as international bands that come to Israel generally charge 175 to 250 shekel ($46 to $66).
Tomer Mussman and Rotem Horovitz, two of the fans who launched the effort to bring awareness to this issue, have released the following update on the matter:
"Friends, I'm shaking with excitement as I'm writing this.
"After a four-day campaign, tens of news items about us worldwide, over 6,000 supporters and numerous media interviews, we can say that we did it! We won!
"This afternoon, Or and Tomer Mussman met with Mr. Gad Oron, the promoter's representative, and reached an agreement about a significant drop in ticket prices.
"We would like to personally thank METALLICA and their management for directly helping us with reaching our goal and reducing the prices.
"We are officially asking each and every one of you to stop the boycott, and come and enjoy METALLICA's concert with us on May 22.
"We want to thank each and every one of you who made their contribution to our successful campaign by joining, signing the petition, or sending links from and to the media everywhere and helping our voice to be heard and echo all around the world.
"We want to thank the producers, METALLICA members and management who were willing to talk to us."

This will be METALLICA's third visit to Israel; they appeared at the Amphi Park in Rishon Letzion in 1999 and Tel Aviv's Yarkon Park six years earlier.
METALLICA wrapped the first leg of the jaunt at the end of January in Brazil, resuming in early March with stops in Mexico, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Panama and Colombia.

CULT OF LUNA released a hardback book/audiobook called "Eviga Riket" on February 23 via C.O.L Press. According to the band, the book is "a short story covering the life and times of Mr. Holger Nilsson, the full story behind the 'Eternal Kingdom' [CULT OF LUNA's latest album] theme. The book will be bilingual, written in Swedish and translated into English. The narrated versions of this short story is accompanied by newly written CULT OF LUNA pieces and soundscapes."
"Eternal Kingdom" is based on an actual journal found in an old mental home. The CD takes listeners on a weird and wonderful journey through the mind of a former patient as he tells the tale of how his wife came to be murdered, and of the mythical creatures he claims to have encountered during the time of the harrowing event.
CULT OF LUNA's DVD, "Fire Was Born", was released in April 2009 via Earache Records). Along with an epic live show recorded on July 1, 2008 at Scala in London, England, the disc — which was mixed, edited and designed by the band — features footage of mainman Johannes Persson and Anders Teglund (keyboards) answering questions from fans all around the world and the videos for "The Watchtower", "Leave Me Here" and "Back To Chapel Town".

NARCOTIC DEATH Announces New Drummer
 U.K. female-fronted progressive doom/death metal band NARCOTIC DEATH, whose lineup includes MY DYING BRIDE touring keyboardist/violinist Shaun MacGowan on rhythm guitar, has announced the addition of drummer Robb Philpotts to the group's ranks. The band states, "If you were present at the gig last [week], his talent needs little introduction, but if you were not, or know him already, it is safe to say that the annihilation of your senses will be his sincerest pleasure. He has brought a new depth to the existing material, and [we] look forward to bringing you our new songs with his extreme talent and good humour providing the back bone to what is now a formidable force."

ARMS OF THE SUN Featuring REX BROWN: Audio Samples Available
 Audio samples from the forthcoming debut album from ARMS OF THE SUN — the project featuring Rex Brown (PANTERA, DOWN) on bass, John Luke Hebert (KING DIAMOND) drums, Lance Harvill on vocals and guitar, and Ben Bunker (GRYN) on guitar — are available for streaming on the band's MySpace page.
ARMS OF THE SUN recently completed work on thirteen tracks that were produced and mixed by Terry Date (DEFTONES, PANTERA, SOUNDGARDEN). The material is set for release through Extreme Music, which provides class-A production music to all major networks and studios, ad agencies and production companies, including FOX, HBO, NBC, BBC, MTV, SKY, ABC, Discovery, Nickelodeon, Turner Entertainment Networks, Universal, Lions Gate, Miramax, Sony Pictures, Touchstone and Disney, to name a few.
ARMS OF THE SUN recorded the music, written by Lance Harvill, late last year at Willie Nelson's Pedernales Recording Studio in Austin. DEW-SCENTED Completes Recording New Album
 German thrashers DEW-SCENTED have completed the recording sessions for their new album, "Invocation", at Soundlodge Studios in Northern Germany with producer Jörg Uken (GOD DETHRONED, SINISTER). Tentatively due in May in Europe via Metal Blade Records, the CD will feature cover artwork by Björn Goosses of Killustrations.com.
Commented the band: "We actually did the old-school thing and entered a recording studio from start to finish of the session, so we have actually spent all of February working our asses off to record a total of 15 songs and things went just great so far!"

DETONATION Completes Work On Fourth Album
 Dutch death/thrash metal act DETONATION has completed work on its fourth album, "Reprisal", due later in the year via an as-yet-undetermined record label. The cover artwork was created by Kevin Storm and can be viewed here.
Commented the band: "We're very pleased with the outcome of this CD. It's heavier than anything we've done in the past, and the songs also feel more personal and in your face. Our new bandmates Michiel [van der Plicht, drums] and Danny [Tunker, guitar] also put their mark on it, and both did an excellent job on 'Reprisal'."

SOILWORK Drummer Featured In ANATOMY OF I Project
 ANATOMY OF I is the brainchild of vocalist/guitarist Michael Dorrian, with longtime friends Dirk Verbeuren (SCARVE, SOILWORK) on drums and Steve DiGiorgio (SADUS, DEATH, TESTAMENT) on bass to complete the lineup.
Mixing a wide range of influences into a mold of traditional metal, thrash and death metal, ANATOMY OF I brings a breath of fresh air into the metal genre.
Dirk Verbeuren recently entered Die Crawling studios to begin recording the debut album for a 2010 release.
A pre-production song (featuring Michael Dorrian on vocals, guitars and bass and Dirk Verbeuren on drums) is currently available for streaming at this location.

SONIC SYNDICATE: New Album Title, Artwork Unveiled
 Swedish/British modern metallers SONIC SYNDICATE have set "We Rule The Night" as the title of their new album, due in Europe on May 28 via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was recorded at Bohus Sound studios in Kungälv, Sweden with producer Toby Wright, who has previously worked with KORN, SLAYER, MÖTLEY CRÜE, KISS, FEAR FACTORY, IN FLAMES, STONE SOUR and OZZY OSBOURNE, among others.
The cover artwork for "We Rule The Night" was created by Gustavo Savez of Abstrata Art and can be viewed here.
Commented the band: "We asked Gustavo to create a bright cover that was also very dark to fit with the title of out new album.
"After countless hours of frustration and adjustments, an e-mail arrive[d] with what has now become the brightest yet darkest cover we could possibly hope for."

SONIC SYNDICATE's "Burn This City" video was shot with director Patric Ullaeus (DIMMU BORGIR, LACUNA COIL) of Revolver Film Company.
"Burn This City", which marked the recording debut of the band's latest addition, British singer Nathan James Biggs (formerly of THE HOLLOW EARTH THEORY), was one of two tracks that were laid down at Abyss studios in Pärlby, outside Ludvika, Sweden. Both cuts appeared on a new EP, "The Rebellion Pack", which was released on November 9, 2009 as part of an all-in-one-package with the group's latest album, "Love And Other Disasters".

STATIC-X Guitarist Joins DRUGSTORE FANATICS
 STATIC-X guitarist Koichi Fukuda has joined DRUGSTORE FANATICS, the Los Angeles, California-based "ambipulsive rock entity" originally formed by drummer Aviv Cohen and guitarist/vocalist Daniel Brecher in Tel Aviv, Israel.
DRUGSTORE FANATICS, whose current lineup is completed by Ryan Collier (formerly of OPUS DAI), will make its live debut on April 8 at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, California.
The band's debut album, entitled "What's Born In The Basement" (recorded before Fukuda joined the band), has been receiving a great response from fans of the industrial/ambient and alt-rock scenes.
STATIC-X is presently on hiatus while frontman Wayne Static is focusing on completing his first solo album, "Pighammer".

ENEMY OF THE SUN To Release \'Caedium\' In May
 ENEMY OF THE SUN, the German band featuring guitarist Waldemar Sorychta — former member of GRIP INC./DESPAIR and producer for such bands as LACUNA COIL and MOONSPELL — will release its second album, "Caedium", in Europe on May 28 via Massacre Records.
ENEMY OF THE SUN vocalist Jules Näveri (also in PROFANE OMEN) recently stated about the forthcoming CD, "We recorded 14 songs plus intro and outro. Most likely we're putting 12 songs on the album and it's not going to be an easy pick. I like all of 'em and it's going to be a battle of choosing the best ones 'cause they're all the best ones.
"I have to say what we're doing at the moment is very spectacular. So much emotions in this album. As you probably agree with me, we have never done things the most ordinary way — ordinary equals boring.
"This album is definately going to be much heavier than the debut. It has parts for you to scream for, it has parts for you to cry for. We also have a very strong working title for the album which we're most probably going to keep."
ENEMY OF THE SUN's last album, "Shadows", was released in North America via The End Records on January 22, 2008 with an exclusive bonus track called "Enemigo del Sol".
Sorychta previously stated about the band, "I call ENEMY OF THE SUN my family because in a family you have to feel comfortable. If not, it's not a good family. ENEMY is a good one. It's the way I wake up and feel the excitment about this band. It's the way I go to bed and want to stay awake because of this band. Music without limits, pure power saved in every note, deepest emotions bound in tones, burning pleasure in each single tune."
