OTEP: \'Rise, Rebel, Resist\' Video Available
"Rise, Rebel, Resist", the new video from California's OTEP, can be viewed below. The clip was directed by Scott Hansen, whose video work ranges from pop-hardcore heroes A DAY TO REMEMBER to the legendary singer-songwriter WILLIE NELSON. "I had this idea to have some politician enveloped inside of their own chaos," explains Hansen. "What better way to tell that idea than to pick your favorite politician and tie them up in a death chair and make them listen to the public."
Comments frontwoman Otep Shamaya: "The 'Rise, Rebel, Resist' video is a reflection of the outrage the American people are feeling at the absurd hypocrisy, and overwhelming nonsense and balderdash plaguing Washington D.C. It uses a bit of satire and a bit of wishful thinking to form this powerful amalgam of imagery that nourishes and empowers the living art of the song. Our message is clear: Either these elected officials do their job and protect the rights and lives of ALL Americans or be prepared to face the consequences."

EX DEO: \'The Final War (Battle Of Actium)\' Video Released
"The Final War (Battle Of Actium)", the new video from EX DEO — the Ancient Roman-themed arsenal led by KATAKLYSM frontman Maurizio Iacono — can be viewed below. The clip, which was helmed by renowned director Ivan Colic and producer Stanimir "Staca" Lukic (MOONSPELL, KAMELOT, DEATHSTARS, TYPE O NEGATIVE) in Belgrade, Serbia, will make its online debut on March 15 (Ides of March) in honour of the god of war, Mars.
Iacono previously stated about the new video: "After much discussion with the director Ivan Colic, we decided to go with 'The Final War (Battle Actium)' as the next video clip for [EX DEO's debut album] 'Romulus'. I love the song 'In Her Dark Embrace', which was initially the planned video track, but we've decided to bring the whole production one step higher and film 'The Final War (Battle Actium)'. The story line is amazing for this song and we will be able to capture not only Roman battle scenes and all the blood you want, but also the true story behind the war that turned Rome from a republic into an Empire. We're going full force with this one!"

NWOBHM legends CLOVEN HOOF have been forced to delay the release of their new five-song EP, "Throne Of Damnation", due to the recent departure of vocalist Russ North. According to the band, Matt Moreton is officially the new CLOVEN HOOF vocalist, and he will be singing on the new EP."
Matt was the powerhouse vocalist on the critically acclaimed "Eye Of The Sun" album.
Fans can expect delivery of the new EP in the first week of April.

Russ North announced in October that he was leaving CLOVEN HOOF to pursue a solo singing career away from heavy metal.
CLOVEN HOOF members Lee Payne (bass), Jon Brown (drums) and Ben Read (guitar) are in pre-production for their next album with producer Tom Galley (PHENOMENA). HYADES Parts Ways With Bassist
Italian thrash metal band HYADES has parted ways with bassist Jerico Biagiotti and has temporarily replaced him with Rob Orlando (who was previously a member of HYADES from 2003 to 2008).
Commented the band: "We are definitely thankful to Jerico for being with us from May 2008 to nowadays; he did a great job on the album 'The Roots of Trash' and we spent good time together on stage. But times are changing and we now need to go back to roots and be again a real band, inside and outside the rehearsal room.
"We are now trying a few bass players, living around here and not 600km far, and we've probably found the right man for us." | 0

WENDY DIO Was \'Annoyed\' By BLABBERMOUTH.NET Users\' Suggestion RONNIE Was Overdubbing Vocals
Legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW) is currently receiving treatment for the early stages of stomach cancer, with which he was diagnosed last November. His wife/manager Wendy Dio (pictured below with Ronnie) has issued the following update on Ronnie's condition:
"Well, now it has been Ronnie's seventh chemo, another cat scan and another endoscopy, and the results are good. The main tumor has shrunk considerably, and our visits to Houston are now every three weeks instead of every two weeks.
"Ronnie and Vinny [Appice, HEAVEN & HELL drummer] went down to the studio to have a listen and see how the [upcoming HEAVEN & HELL] DVD is coming along, NOT to overdub anything as presumed by Hoss2112 or Shattered 73 on the Blabbermouth rants.
"I was very annoyed to read these comments, and if they were truly fans of Ronnie's, they would know #1) that Ronnie is a SINGER and does not need to overdub a live show, and #2) He would never cheat his fans by overdubbing a live DVD.
"I will not be showing these comments to Ronnie, as I know they would hurt and upset him as they did me. He has been going to the REHEARSAL studio to sing, not the recording studio!
"Ronnie's cousin Rock [David Feinstein] (from THE RODS, who used to be in ELF with him) flew in from New York to visit Ronnie for a week and they enjoyed spending some time together, going to the movies and taking walks, and Ronnie and Rock went to the studio to master Rock's new album, which Ronnie sings a track on. And Craig Goldy [DIO guitarist] will be coming over to start writing new songs with Ronnie next week. It will be great to see him again, as he has been away touring with the British band BUDGIE.
"That's all I can think of right now until the next update.
"God bless you all and we are still reading all the wonderful cards and letters."
In a previous online posting, Wendy Dio revealed that there are plans to release a 30th-anniversary BLACK SABBATH "Heaven And Hell" DVD sometime this year. The package is expected to include brand new interviews that Ronnie, Geezer Butler and Appice gave to Eddie Trunk — co-host of the VH1 Classic television program "That Metal Show" — on January 22, 2010 in Los Angeles, as well other extras.
According to a posting on the BLACK SABBATH fan site Black-Sabbath.com, fans can send get-well cards to Ronnie James Dio through the official fan club address:
Dio Fan Club
12400 Ventura Boulevard, Suite 624
Studio City, CA
91604
Additionally, if you'd like to send an email to Ronnie, you can do so via getwellronnie@black-sabbath.com. After a short time, Black-Sabbath.com webmaster Joe Siegler will print them out and pass them over to Wendy Dio.
Dio, 67, has performed with ELF, RAINBOW, BLACK SABBATH, and his own band DIO. Other musical projects include the collective fundraiser "Hear 'n Aid". He is widely hailed as one of the most powerful singers in heavy metal, renowned for his consistently powerful voice and for popularizing the "devil's horns" hand gesture in metal culture. He is currently involved with HEAVEN & HELL, a project which also includes guitarist Tony Iommi and other former BLACK SABBATH bandmates Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice. Their first studio album, "The Devil You Know", was released on April 28, 2009.

News about DVD PORCUPINE TREE
Finally some news on the upcoming Porcupine Tree DVD, which has been a year and a half in the making:
The PT DVD filmed in Tilburg, Netherlands in October 2008 is on track for an April release and will most likely be called "Anesthetize". There will be a special edition with a hard-back book, probably in the same format as the "Insurgentes" and "Incident" books - this will also include a 2 CD audio soundtrack of the DVD, and maybe something else special.
In an interview with Steven Wilson in the same issue, Wilson hints that the box might contains some additional material:
"Originally we planned to do a live album from the "Fear of a Blank Planet" tour. We actually recorded a couple of shows, one of which, Atlanta came out fantastically and it's all mixed and finished. Then we thought it's a bit too much to relase a live album and then release a DVD from the same tour six months later. So we thought okay let's keep everything together and do a box set version with a DVD and three or four CDs, but not necessarily from the same show."

KILLING MACHINE Joined By EVERGREY/Ex-STRATOVARIUS Bassist
U.S. metallers KILLING MACHINE have announced the addition of former STRATOVARIUS and current EVERGREY bassist Jari Kainulainen to the group's ranks.
Jari will continue with his position in EVERGREY, but the chance to challenge himself in a different field with KILLING MACHINE was an opportunity he did not want to miss.
Commented Kainulainen: "When [KILLING MACHINE founding member and guitarist] Peter [Scheithauer; ex-TEMPLE OF BRUTALITY, BELLADONA] contacted me and asked me to join KILLING MACHINE as replacement for David Ellefson [MEGADETH], I had to check it out. And after listening to a few songs I knew straight away that this is something I definitely wanted to be a part of. I especially fell in love with the fast and blasting bass lines and kick-ass guitar riffs., so it was an easy decision for me. I'm really looking forward to start playing with these guys."
Added Scheithauer: "First off, I am so thrilled that I can finally announce Jari Kainulainen as the new bass player!!!
"Once I was done with the demos, it was time to think about getting the band together. I wanted people who were ready to tour — no egos. Plus, returning to Europe, I wanted someone we can hang with who was first and foremost a true metalhead. Csaba [Zvekan, vocals] and Jon [Dette, drums; SLAYER, TESTAMENT] were already in and I knew David [Ellefson] was out of the question for the obvious reasons.
"I always loved Jari's playing. I saw him several time with STRATOVARIUS and love EVERGREY. If someone can play crazy bass lines and be creative it's him. And besides being an outstanding musician, he is a very cool guy and at the end that's what really matters."
The complete KILLING MACHINE lineup is:
Csaba Zvekan - Vocals
Peter Scheithauer (TEMPLE OF BRUTALITY, BELLADONNA) - Guitar
Jari Kainulainen (EVERGREY, STRATOVARIUS) - Bass
Jon Dette (TESTAMENT, SLAYER) - Drums
Two new songs — "Skull and Bone" and "Hell Raiser" — can be heard at the KILLING MACHINE MySpace page.
The band is in the process of securing a new record deal with a view to a release towards the end of the year. | 0

APOCALYPTICA, PRONG, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY To Pay Tribute To BLACK SABBATH
APOCALYPTICA, PRONG, ELECTRIC WIZARD, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY and ORANGE GOBLIN are among the artists who will reportedly be featured on a new Metal Hammer compilation album paying homage to the masters of heavy metal, BLACK SABBATH. More details will be made available soon.
BLACK SABBATH commemorated the 40th anniversary of its debut album in February with an interview at the U.K.'s Times Online. The self-titled disc was issued on February 13, 1970, and arguably set the tone, style and template for what became modern heavy metal. The heavy, crashing guitars, wailing vocals, thunderous rhythms and eerie, occult-drenched lyrics would become influential to untold numbers of bands over the next four decades.
Original SABBATH singer Ozzy Osbourne told The Pulse of Radio that the band had no idea at the time it was launching a new genre of music. "I mean, when you're in the eye of the storm, you never know what's really going on, you know," he said. "So it's like, we didn't go, 'I know, let's just all of us sit down and make this stuff called heavy metal.' It just happened, and up the road, I mean, when I started doing the Ozzfest and kids would come up to me and go, 'You know, Ozz, you guys in SABBATH were the reason why we wanted to play,' that's a big bonus."
Ozzy, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward recorded "Black Sabbath" in just 12 hours.
The album contains such classic metal tracks as "The Wizard", "N.I.B." and the song "Black Sabbath".
Critics were not receptive to the album, with then-influential rock critic Lester Bangs called the group "unskilled laborers." Nevertheless, the record sold a million copies by the end of 1970.
The original lineup of SABBATH made seven more albums before Ozzy left the band in 1978. Iommi continued with various lineups and Ozzy pursued a solo career until they reunited in the late '90s for a succession of tours. The band was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.

THE HAUNTED: \'Road Kill\' DVD/CD Details Revealed
Swedish metallers THE HAUNTED will release a live DVD/CD, "Road Kill", in Europe on April 19 and in North America on June 8 via Century Media. This crushing live release will be available as a DVD+CD as well as a stand-alone CD and digital download. The audio-only release contain the full live-show as well as five previously unreleased or rare studio tracks from the "Versus" recording sessions.
According to a press release, "Road Kill" features an in-depth, very unique on-the-road documentary, footage of THE HAUNTED's intense live performance and the band's recent promotional video clips. The live show was captured on February 13, 2009 at Melkweg in Amsterdam, Holland by Fabchannel and its sound was mixed and mastered by THE HAUNTED's longtime producer Tue Madsen (SICK OF IT ALL, DARK TRANQUILLITY, HEAVEN SHALL BURN).
THE HAUNTED guitarist Anders Björler, who produced the documentary, commented: "'Road Kill' is 10 years of touring compressed into a 65-minute documentary feature. It's rough, dirty, honest and to the point.
"After working almost two years on and off on this film, I am pleased it will finally see the light of day."
Vocalist Peter Dolving added: "This DVD is a slice of life, a peek into what it's like being on the road with THE HAUNTED.
"Buy it, watch and enjoy. When you are dead and buried you won't be able to, will you?"
Check out a trailer for "Road Kill" below.
THE HAUNTED is preparing to hit the road in Europe as the support act for SLAYER. In addition, the group will make several festival appearances this summer.
THE HAUNTED recently signed a new worldwide deal with Century Media Records.
The band's last three albums — "rEVOLVEr", "The Dead Eye" and "Versus" — were released through the German label.
Peter Dolving told the German edition of the Metal Hammer magazine last summer about THE HAUNTED's forthcoming CD, "Looking at the ideas that we're coming up with, looking at the stuff that we're doodling around with, it's gonna be a very heavy and it's gonna be a very strange record. It's gonna be like a continuation of what we started experimenting with both on 'rEVOLVEr' [2004] and on 'The Dead Eye' [2006], so it'll be eclectic and hard. 'Cause around the time of 'The Dead Eye', we felt that we really needed to do something that we hadn't done that we really wanted to do, and we got a lot of critique for it; a lot of people didn't like it. We loved it, and the songs that we're playing off that record are going over really well with the audience and we're really enjoying to play them. So we figure, why the fuck shouldn't we play and continue to try and evolve as musicians and songwriters?! And that's what we'll do."
THE HAUNTED is continuing to tour in support of its latest album, "Versus", which entered the Swedish chart at position No. 14 and the Finnish chart at No. 12.The CD was recorded in part at PUK studio in Denmark with producer Tue Madsen, who previously worked with the group on its two earlier LPs, "rEVOLVEr" and "The Dead Eye".

"I wanted it big, I wanted it dramatic, I wanted a rock record," Meat Loaf said about the new album. "Yes, it sounds like a Meat Loaf record. But it sounds different too: it sounds new, it sounds fresh. It speaks to you in a different way." For "Hang Cool Teddy Bear", Meat Loaf's creativity was sparked by working with a new collaborator, producer Rob Cavallo (GREEN DAY, MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, PARAMORE, FLEETWOOD MAC), a lifelong MEAT LOAF fan who has worked with some of the most explosive names in rock music and who helped to foster a modern and contemporary vibe for the album. Of their relationship, Meat Loaf said, "Rob is the number one rock producer in the world because he leaves his ego out of the equation and gives an artist his voice, making it sound better than the artist could even imagine."
Regarding Roadrunner/Loud & Proud, Meat Loaf is excited about his new label digs, saying, "In my bones, I've always been a rocker and I finally found a home that rocks." Loud & Proud President Tom Lipsky also commented on the signing, saying "Meat Loaf has once again created a masterpiece and we are excited and proud to be his new label partner."
Thematically, like most Meat Loaf albums, "Hang Cool Teddy Bear" has a larger concept and was inspired by a short story written by Los Angeles screenwriter, director and longtime Meat Loaf friend Kilian Kerwin.
"It's the story of a soldier," revealed Meat Loaf. "He's been in battle and he's lying face down on the ground. He can't move, but he turns his head and starts to see blood run across the ground, and so he thinks he's going to die. They always say you see your life flash backward when you're about to die. But his life flashes forward — into what possibly could happen. He sees what his life could be: the good and the bad. The songs are the different scenarios he finds himself in. It's not always the same time or the same place, but it's always the same woman. But I don't want to give too much away. I want people to work it out for themselves."
"Hang Cool Teddy Bear" features a stellar array of big-name guests, including Steve Vai (who appears on "Love is Not Real"), QUEEN guitarist Brian May (who appears on "Song of Madness" and "Love is Not Real"), "American Idol" judge Kara DioGuardi (who co-wrote and sings on "If I Can't Have You") and Hollywood star Jack Black, who duets with Meat Loaf on "Like a Rose". Additionally, English actor Hugh Laurie of TV's "House" fame has a cameo on the album, playing piano on "If I Can't Have You". The pair met after Meat Loaf guested on Laurie's hit series and discovered the star was a classically trained pianist.
For "Hang Cool Teddy Bear", the singer enlisted elite musicians, including THE DARKNESS frontman Justin Hawkins, who co-wrote two songs for the album, guitarists Tim Pierce, Paul Crook and Randy Flowers, legendary bass players Chris Chaney and Kasim Sulton, genius keyboardist Jamie Mulhoberac and one of the world's greatest rock drummers, John Micelli.
"Hang Cool Teddy Bear" is due out May 11 in the U.S.

LENG TCH\'E: New Album Title Revealed
Belgian grindcore act LENG TCH'E has set "Hypomanic" as the title of its new album, tentatively due in North America on June 8 via Season of Mist. The CD was recorded at Parlour Studio in Kettering, United Kingdom with producer Russ Russell.
LENG TCH'E recently stated about the group's forthcoming album, "This is by far the heaviest and most extreme record we've ever made, and if that wasn't enough, the legendary Mr. Barney Greenway [NAPALM DEATH] himself laid down some guest vocals on a little song called 'Totalitarian'. Brutal as fuck, as they apparently say in the Midlands." | 0

FLOTSAM AND JETSAM Rejoined By Guitarist MICHAEL GILBERT
Drummer Craig Nielsen of Arizona-based metal veterans FLOTSAM AND JETSAM has issued the following update:
"The band wanted to wait until it was for sure, and now that it is, we would like to announce that original guitarist Michael Gilbert has rejoined the band after Ed Carlson has officially decided to no longer tour or record.
"There was absolutuly zero bad blood in this development. Ed Carlson is a brother to all of us and his unique musical genius will be deeply missed.
"Michael is 100% in it. His playing is on fire as is his spirit for the band that he was so important in putting on the scene. He will be joining the band on the upcoming European tour, starting April 1 in Holland.
"As for the very delayed record, 'The Cold', it has been confirmed and reconfirmed that the mix and final mastering will finally happen this month. The tracking has been complete for some time now and because of a series of unfortunate but unavoidable delays, this record will have a release date decided on this month.
"Finally, the band has just confirmed a headline show at The Galaxy Theater in Orange County, California on Saturday, May 1. The last show the band played there was the California Metalfest with TESTAMENT. That was a GREAT show.
"Come down and see us with the O.G. Mike Gilbert!!"

SAXON Bassist Forced To Sit Out Tour
British heavy metal legends SAXON have issued the following update:
"Sadly we are forced to announce that Nibbs [Carter, bass] won't be able to join us on the upcoming tour!
"Due to health problems of his wife, we all decided that it will be the best for all if he stays with his wife and family to make sure that she will get well soon.
"We still want to do the tour and looking really forward to meeting all the SAXON fans out there — it wouldn't be fair to you to postpone the tour again.
"Gladly our friend Yenz Leonhardt (KINGDOM COME, LACRIMOSA, etc.) will jump in for this part of the tour and try to replace Nibbs part as best he can, although Nibbs is irreplaceable to us.
"Thanks for your understanding and keep on rockin'." | 0

WATAIN: More \'Reaping Death\' Single Details Revealed
Swedish black metallers WATAIN will release the "Reaping Death" single in picture-disc and CD formats in April. The picture-disc version features, besides the new track "Reaping Death", a rendering of a classic track by the both cursed and highly revered DEATH SS from Italy, along with some additional items. This seven-inch single will be printed in 1,300 copies. The CD version comes with the April issue of Sweden Rock Magazine, which also features a six-page WATAIN interview about the new album and everything around it. It features a cover of BATHORY's "The Return of Darkness and Evil", as a sign of WATAIN's return and also, of course, in reference to WATAIN's BATHORY tribute show that will be held on Saturday, June 11 at Sweden Rock Festival.
Both the picture disc and the Sweden Rock issue with the free CD single will be available for pre-order through www.watainmerch.com but bear in mind that shipping date for both CD and picture EP will not be until April 30, Walpurgisnacht.
According to WATAIN, "the cover piece for 'Reaping Death' is based upon the myth of Cain, the firstborn Murderer. The illustration depicts triumphant Cain upon his slain 'brother' Abel, undergoing the transformation from a slave of creation to a Lord of Uncreation. Behind him burns the fire of Lucifer, and his children dance around it in joyful ecstasy. With the murder of Abel, the gates of Death were opened for the first time, by an act of lawless will. The song 'Reaping Death' is a celebration of this act, a hymn to the hungry fire that dwell within the hearts of the bloodline of Cain."
After spending two "intense" months at Necromorbus Studio (NOMINON, AVERSE SEFIRA, FUNERAL MIST, NEX, ONDSKAPT, MORK GRYNING, ADORIOR) in Alvik, Sweden, WATAIN recently completed work on its as-yet-untitled fourth album, to be released by Season Of Mist on June 7.
