SADIST Recording New Album

Italian progressive death metallers SADIST have entered Nadir Music studios in Genova to record their new album, "Season In Silence", for a March 19 release. According to a press release, the new CD promises to be the band's "most technical and extreme" effort to date.

SADIST's "One Thousand Memories" video can be viewed below. The song comes off the group's self-titled comeback album, which was released in 2007 via Beyond Productions.

Formed in 1991, SADIST split up in 2000 after releasing the "Lego" album and later reunited in 2005. Their compositions are said to involve "a heavy usage of guitar solos and keyboard solos, with progressive, jazz and some Eastern influences. Although SADIST are a death metal outfit, the album 'Lego' is a nu metal album with a thrash metal background."

"Sadist" featured a guest appearance by GOBLIN keyboardist Claudio Simonetti, who contributed a special version of the instrumental track "Sadist", which previously appeared on SADIST's 1993 debut album, "Above the Light".

NEGURA BUNGET: First Track From \'Maiastru Sfetnic\' Reinterpretation Posted Online

"Maiestrit", the magical and passionate re-interpretation of NEGURA BUNGET's classic album "Maiastru Sfetnic" from 2000, will be released in North America on April 6 via Prophecy Productions. The CD, which will be made available in Europe on March 15, contains the last studio recordings of the classic NEGURA BUNGET lineup (Hupogrammos, Sol Faur, Negru). The album will be complemented by previously unreleased acoustic versions of "A-vint In Abis" and "Plecaciunea Mortii".

Commented Negru: "I am happy to see that the last materials we worked on under the original formula of the band are now completed.

"The first idea to re-record the 'Maiastru Sfetnic' album in its entirety we had soon after the original release came out in 1999. It took some years, though, before we finally started doing it, in 2007. After a lot of work, the basic elements were already recorded in April 2009 when NEGURA BUNGET parted ways with Hupogrammos and Sol Faur. It remained their task, though, to complete their work on this material. And now 'Maiestrit' is the final legacy of the NEGURA BUNGET past.

"The live DVD and 2-CD, entitled 'Focul Viu' (English: 'Living Fire'), was recorded in January 2008 at a concert in Bucharest. After a complex process of audio and video mix, the 90-minute concert is soon ready to be released. Beside the actual concert, available in stereo and 5.1 surround mix, you'll find on the DVD a slideshow with concert pictures as well as a newly mixed re-arrangement of all NEGURA BUNGET videos up to date.

"These two materials are the last materials we started working on in the old NEGURA BUNGET lineup that featured Sol Faur and Hupogrammos, and although we completed with them apart from the band, all belong to the same spirit. These two materials mark the end of an era, and the beginning of a new one. May it be a meaningful moment for everybody."

Added Hupogrammos: "A chapter is closing in our lives. Sol Faur and I are currently working on the last details of the final episode of a challenging experience that, for 15 years, took us on a path of musical and mystical development.

"Our intention was to re-enbody the purest black metal album we ever made and to do that in an impeccable manner, as black metal requires impeccability. The dream of such high intent was not entirely fulfilled, but the result of our endeavour was materialized as 'Maiestrit'.

"We started to work on this album two years ago, and until the moment the band split we had recorded most of the electric guitars and the drums. Everything else was performed and composed after July 2009 (when we split up) by Sol Faur and myself, including the two bonus tracks that were especially composed and re-shaped for this album.

"In our eyes, the journey of NEGURA BUNGET ends with this last album. Anyone caring about and searching for new forms of expression in music is invited to keep an eye on our two new bands, DORDEDUH and SUNSET IN THE 12TH HOUSE."

ROTTEN SOUND: New EP To Include NAPALM DEATH Covers

Finland's ROTTEN SOUND will release a new EP in March via Relapse Records. Entitled "Napalm", it will feature three brand new tracks in addition to three NAPALM DEATH covers. Additional details, including the track listing, will be revealed shortly.

ROTTEN SOUND will join ABORTED and THE RED CHORD for the "Machines Of Grind" three-week co-headlining European tour. The trek will kick off in mid-April and will include stops at the Neurotic Deathfest and Revolution Fest Open Air.

ROTTEN SOUND (Keijo Niinimaa – vocals, Mika Aalto – guitars, Sami Latva – drums, Toni Pihlaga - bass) formed in 1993 and has released a series of full-lengths and EPs since its formation. The band's latest album, "Cycles", was issued in January of 2008 and debuted at #12 on the Finnish chart.

VALKYRJA: Another Song Available For Streaming

A brand new VALKYRJA track entitled "Solstice In Withdrawal" is available for streaming on the band's MySpace page. The song comes off the Swedish black metallers' second album, "Contamination", which was released this week via Metal Blade Records. SYSTEM DIVIDE Completes Recording Debut Album

SYSTEM DIVIDE, the extreme modern metal act featuring Sven De Caluwé (ABORTED) and Miri Milman (ex-DISTORTED) on vocals, Cole Martinez (ex-YEARS OF FIRE, ANTENORA) and Joseph Spiller (ex-THE BINARY CODE) on guitars, Andrew Lenthe (ANTENORA) on bass, and Mike Heller (MALIGNANCY) on drums, has finished its full-length debut, "The Conscious Sedation", at Conquistador studios in Cleveland, Ohio. The CD will be mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen (ABORTED, MERCENARY, RAUNCHY, HATESPHERE, VOLBEAT) at Hansen studios in Ribe, Denmark for a tentative June release via Metal Blade Records.

Commented the band: "Expect the album to have 11-12 tunes of heavy extreme metal madness with blazing guitar leads, crazy kick patterns, blasts, grooves and melodies along with our own brand of extreme and clean vocals."

SYSTEM DIVIDE's "The Collapse" EP was produced and engineered by guitarist Cole Martinez and was mixed and mastered by Jacob Hansen.

According to a press release, SYSTEM DIVIDE "unites a myriad of sounds, going from STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, SOILWORK, LACUNA COIL, DIMMU BORGIR, CHIMAIRA to even MORBID ANGEL. Prepare for the unexpected!"

Founded in summer 2008, SYSTEM DIVIDE set out to revolutionize the conventions of the over-saturated melodic death metal genre, proving that extreme metal can have more depth than blast beats, while female vocals do not have to conform to the precepts of the "goth" genre. In mixing many styles, "The Collapse" breaks all the rules of extreme metal and is a landmark release for the young band.

As opposed to interjecting simple, predictable clean choruses into contrived song structures, SYSTEM DIVIDE unites serene female vocals and extreme vocals driven by lyrical themes that confront and seek to break everyday themes of disillusionment, societal materialism, and individual apathy. Musically, the band delivers myriad styles of riffing and grooves, while augmenting the entrancing soundscapes with hard-hitting drums and intricate bass lines. Former ALICE COOPER Guitarist Launches CASABLANCA

Former ALICE COOPER guitarist Ryan Roxie has joined forces with four prominent Swedish artists and personalities to form CASABLANCA.

The other members of CASABLANCA all come from other successful Swedish bands such as SAHARA HOTNIGHTS, MELODY CLUB, and SPACE-AGE BABY JANE.

CASABLANCA's first single, "Downtown", has just been released and is currently positioned in the Scandinavian Top 5 iTunes Download Chart.

The band's debut album, produced by Chris Laney, will be released later in the year.

"Noctis Era", a brand new song from Greek extreme metallers ROTTING CHRIST, is available for streaming on the Season Of Mist MySpace page. BLIND GUARDIAN, RHAPSODY OF FIRE, REBELLION Members Join Forces In BRUTAL GODZ

Former/current members of BLIND GUARDIAN, RHAPSODY OF FIRE and REBELLION have joined forces in a brand new Germany-based project called BRUTAL GODZ.

According to a press release, BRUTAL GODZ' "musical concept is based on energy, cruelty in its purest form without any boundaries."

DEVOLVED: \'Fractured\' Video Released

"Fractured", the new video from Australian/American tech-metallers DEVOLVED, can be viewed below. The clip was shot on location at Ramona Mainstage in San Diego, California. It was filmed, directed and edited by David Brodsky, who has worked with such bands as SUICIDE SILENCE, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, UNEARTH, ALL THAT REMAINS and SUFFOCATION. Brodsky also won "Best Video Of The Year" on MTV2's "Headbangers Ball".

"Fractured" comes off DEVOLVED's new album, "Calculated", which was released on January 19 via Unique Leader Records. The CD was mixed by famed producer/engineer Neil Kernon (CANNIBAL CORPSE, NILE, NEVERMORE, DEICIDE, JUDAS PRIEST) and was mastered by Alan Douches (SEPULTURA, UNEARTH, SHADOWS FALL, HATEBREED, GOD FORBID). KING DIAMOND: \'At The Graves\' Three-Disc DVD Set Due In March

Massacre Records has set a March 26 European release date for "At The Graves", the long-awaited three-disc DVD set from KING DIAMOND. "This has taken so much longer than expected because of so many technical issues that I won't bore you to death, but we recently acquired a brand new noise-reduction program that we're using to enhance all the footage, and it's amazing how much better everything is beginning to look compared to the original tapes," the band's singer and namesake wrote in an October 2009 online posting.

NOCTURNAL RITES Hard At Work On New Material

Drummer Owe Lingvall of Swedish power metallers NOCTURNAL RITES told Sweden's Västerbottens Folkblad newspaper earlier this week that the band will enter the studio this spring with an as-yet-undisclosed new guitarist to begin recording its new album for a tentative late 2010 release.

The group, which hasn't played any shows since 2008, spent the past eighteen months focusing on other projects and recharging its batteries, according to Lingvall. A couple of new songs have already been written and there are ideas for another five or six tracks. In addition, NOCTURNAL RITES has been confirmed for this year's ProgPower USA XI festival, set to take place September 8-11 in Atlanta, Georgia.

ARSIS: \'Forced To Rock\' Video Available

"Forced To Rock", the new video from Virginia-based technical melodic death metallers ARSIS, can be viewed below. The clip was filmed last month with MyGoodEye (THE RED CHORD, GOATWHORE, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER).

Commented guitarist/vocalist James Malone: "I don't think I have the vocabulary to properly express how excited I am for the video clip 'Forced To Rock' to be unleashed upon an expecting metal community.

"The video was shot in sub-zero temperatures and we were truly suffering the entire time, but I guess all great art comes from suffering.

"I would like to give Kim Dylla (vocalist of the band THISMEANSYOU) the biggest thank you ever for her participation in our video and for forcing us to rock.

OCEANO Prepares To Record New Album

A year after completing the recording of their successful 2009 debut, "Depths", Chicago's deathcore heavyweights OCEANO are heading back into the studio to record their follow-up effort. Set for release later this year, the new album will tell a story that promises to open eyes and deliver a more mature experience than many might normally expect. "Expect us to go DEEPER than 'Depths' this time around, and NOT just meaning heavier," says vocalist Adam Warren. "This is more than just our sophomore album. It is a great vision to be accomplished when all of the pieces we've worked so hard to create — art, music, lyrics and overall atmosphere — come together."

In order to make OCEANO's vision a reality, the band has enlisted the help of Chris "Zeuss" Harris to helm the record. Zeuss, one of the most respected producers in metal today, has worked with such acts as MUNICIPAL WASTE, THE ACACIA STRAIN, HATEBREED and SHADOWS FALL. Known for exponentially increasing an act's natural abilities while in the studio, Zeuss is enthusiastic at the chance to take OCEANO to the next level. "I'm really excited to be working on the new OCEANO record," says the Springfield, Massachusetts-based producer. "I see this as a great opportunity to work with one of the truly talented up and coming bands in the metal genre." Knowing how important it is to extend the band's reach from within their already dominant grasp on the deathcore scene, Zeuss adds, "I look forward to pushing the band to their full potential and making them stand above the rest."

Former MANOWAR And MEGADETH Members Join Forces In ANGELS OF BABYLON

ANGELS OF BABYLON, the new band featuring former MANOWAR drummer Rhino, Arizona based power-metal vocalist David Fefolt, guitarist Ethan Brosh and ex-MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson, has inked a deal with Metal Heaven Records for the European release of the group's debut album, "Kingdom of Evil". Due on January 29, the CD contains 10 new original songs, includings cuts like "Conspiracy Theory", "Second Coming" and "Apocalypse 2012". A North American release will follow in May.

"I started compiling these songs many years ago but was patiently waiting for the optimum lineup to record and release an album like this," says Rhino. "I was introduced to Fefolt, Ellefson and Brosh a couple years back, and they provided the inspiration to forge ahead and complete the album. I think we have something really special for our fans with this new record."

The band formed in 2008 when Rhino and Fefolt began writing songs for a new album. They met Ellefson in a recording studio in Phoenix, Arizona. After hearing their material, Ellefson was impressed enough to join forces and create a new vision of heavy metal. Berklee-schooled guitar virtuoso Ethan Brosh had just finished completing a solo album when he was asked to become the final piece of the roc and roll monolith. They recorded 10 stellar tracks over the next year and a half of blistering, melodic heavy metal. The emphasis was put on huge melodies but with a heavy touch. Hammering guitars, pounding drums, driving bass, and soaring vocals are all the hallmark of ANGELS OF BABYLON.

"I think this album will surprise a lot of people due to its classic metal sound but with such majestic arrangements throughout," says Fefolt. "The melodic power on this album is definitely a force to be reckoned with!"

The music runs the gamut between progressive new metal to the roots of classic, old-school heavy metal, with every member of the band at the top of his musical genre.

FATES WARNING: \'Parallels\' Lineup To Reunite For Select Shows

Metal Blade Records has set a tentative March 16 release date for a special-edition of "Parallels", the classic 1991 album from the progressive metal band FATES WARNING. In addition to remastered audio, there will be a second audio disc of live and demo material. The package will also include a DVD with nearly three hours of material, including a complete live show from the 1992 "Parallels" tour and a documentary on the making of "Parallels" which includes live, studio, and current day interview footage with all the band members, Terry Brown (producer) and Brian Slagel (CEO of Metal Blade Records).

TEXTURES Singer Quits

Singer Eric Kalsbeek has left Dutch progressive metallers TEXTURES. He says in a statement, "My life changed, priorities shifted. I can't cope with the heavy touring and the time investment anymore. I need to focus on my job and family. I need to take a few steps back.

"I've had six beautiful years with the band, did loads of amazing shows, made tons of new friends and created some mind-blowing music.

"I'm going to miss the guys, and, of course you, the fans. I know TEXTURES will continue to conquer the world and give you all great, heavy and awesome music. I wish my successor all the best.

"I will keep on making music, but something totally different, much more low-profile.

"Maybe we will meet again."

The remaining members of TEXTURES are currently auditioning a possible replacement singer and hope to reveal his identity in the coming months.

Due to Eric's departure, TEXTURES' follow-up to 2008's "Silhouettes" will not surface before early 2011 via Nuclear Blast Records.

"Awake", the most recent video from TEXTURES, can be viewed below. The clip was directed by Dutch filmmaker Rob Hodselaar who worked on numerous documentaries as well as videos for Dutch artists as GEM and ROOM ELEVEN. The production was handled by David Leite from Hazazah.

For the video, the band received a generous grant from the Dutch tax videoclip fund which gave the band the opportunity to film a video exactly as they had in mind, with minimal budget restrictions.

Drummer Morgan Rose of Atlanta's SEVENDUST revealed to Scotty "Bunz Of" Steele of Spokane, Washington's Rock 94 1/2 radio station earlier today (Wednesday, January 20) that the band's forthcoming album will likely be titled "Cold Day Memory". The CD was recorded at Groovemaster Studios in Chicago, Illinois with producer Johnny K (DISTURBED, STAIND, MACHINE HEAD). The group said, "It came out amazing and we're very proud of it. . . There's all the elements of the original five members. We're completely back to what made us SEVENDUST and we think [the fans will] be pleased."

NIGHTWISH singer Anette Olzon and Swedish hard rockers MUSTASCH performed a medley of four or five songs which were in competition for the title of Sweden's "Song Of The Year" during last night's (January 19) "P3 Guld" (Swedish radio's annual music awards) live awards ceremony broadcast from the Scandinavium Arena in Gothenburg, Sweden. "I am excited and I look so forward to show myself to the Swedish people.

"We [NIGHTWISH] haven't done so many performances in my own country, even though we have sold gold with [the latest NIGHTWISH album] 'Dark Passion Play', so this is a nice thing for me to do."

New USURPER Material To Surface This Year

Guitarist/founder Rick Scythe of Chicago's now-defunct band USURPER has issued the following update:

"I am planning on releasing at least one or two (maybe more) new USURPER songs in 2010.

"I have these demos of songs we never put out.

"I used to write everything for USURPER. I would show up to rehearsal with a four-track recording of guitar, drums, bass and vocals, show them to the band, and then everyone would just learn their parts and enhance the basic concept.

"I was thinking of taking some of those tracks and adding perhaps like The General D. Slaughter or another past member to complete the recordings... or possibly record some entirely new USURPER material... or possibly just releasing some of those raw demo tracks... just to fill the void before the USURPER DVD, but not 100% definite right now."

DEMONICA, the new project featuring MERCYFUL FATE guitarist Hank Shermann, will release its debut album, "Demonstrous", on February 26, 2010 via Massacre Records. The CD, which will be made available in Japan on February 17, was recorded in the Bay Area, the Rocky Mountains and Copenhagen (Denmark), and was mixed at Flatline Audio in Denver, Colorado with Dave Otero (CEPHALIC CARNAGE, MARTRIDEN, COBALT).

INTERMENT: Debut Album Title, Track Listing Revealed

Reactivated Swedish old-school death metallers INTERMENT have set "Into The Crypts Of Blasphemy" as the title of their debut album, tentatively due in April via Pulverised Records. The CD is being recorded at Erebos Studios with Peter Bjärgo (TYRANT, CRYPT OF KERBEROS). According to the band, "All drums, guitars, bass, solos are done, so now it's only the vocals left."

ION DISSONANCE Recording New Album

Montreal extreme metal purists ION DISSONANCE are currently holed up at .357 Productions recording their new album for an early summer release via Century Media Records. The CD is being helmed by the band's guitarist Antoine Lussier, who also produced EMMURE's latest effort. According to a press release, fans can expect "a more refined and streamlined approach that just goes straight for the jugular with a frenetic assault of the band's trademarked mathematic brutality."

Commented vocalist Kevin: "We are currently wrapping up our third week in the studio. The drum tracks have been completed and we are now halfway through recording guitars. Everything is going a hell of a lot better than we could ever expect. As a result, we are all stoked beyond belief at how retarded these new tracks sound.

"Have you ever noticed that every band recording lately tends to release the exact same quote? 'This recording is the best ever put out, and the songs are the best ever written, and blah blah blah.' Well, we want to switch it up a little bit and mention that this recording will be what you make it out to be.

"You have all noticed that ION DISSONANCE has been off the road at home for the last few years. This gave us the opportunity to work out new tracks and take them in a new direction. We wanted to make sure everything was well polished before recording a single note. The end result is astonishing. It's exactly what you would expect from us — a band who is pissed off and ready to take this game to a whole new level.

"'The Breathing Is Irrelevant' [2003] and 'Solace' [2005] albums brought about a solid fanbase of tech heads that whine and complain about 'Minus The Herd' [2007] being too simplistic. What we wanted to do with this new effort is to find the perfect balance between both without being categorized in a single genre.
