Former PARADISE LOST Drummer To Appear On CREATION\'S TEARS Debut
Former PARADISE LOST/MARSHALL LAW drummer Lee Morris will make his return to the heavier end of the musical spectrum when he appears on the debut album, "Methods To End It All", from Northern Ireland's melodic melancholy metallers CREATION'S TEARS. The CD is being recorded with producers Jens Bogren and David Castillo (OPETH, KATATONIA, AMON AMARTH, SOILWORK) for a spring release.
Commented CREATION'S TEARS frontman Brian "Eddie" Reynolds: "For me, Lee Morris was responsible for bringing a whole new dynamic to PARADISE LOST's sound on 'Draconian Times' on songs like 'The Last Time' and 'Forever Failure', but especially on tracks like 'Enchantment' and 'Shadowkings', where he had a unique sound, so we're excited about what he's going to bring to the table within CREATION'S TEARS."
Following his departure from PARADISE LOST in 2004, the sticksman — who appeared on such classics as PARADISE LOST's "Draconian Times" and "One Second" — has been involved in teaching drums to aspiring young musicians as well as keeping active on the session circuit.
Stated Lee Morris: "When I was first contacted by CREATION'S TEARS about playing on their album, I'll be honest and say that I didn't really have any great desire to re-visit this style of playing again, as after nearly a decade of touring and recording with PARADISE LOST, I'd kinda just about exhausted my enthusiasm for this scene. However, after hearing this band's demos and being really impressed by the new fresh ideas they had, plus their incredible ambition, it became a bit of a no-brainer, really, on my involvement on this record.
"I am looking forward to tracking the drums with the band! I think CREATION'S TEARS will certainly impress quite a few people when this album is released."
When quizzed on influences and musical direction, Reynolds stated, "We draw influences from bands as diverse as HIM and ANATHEMA to METALLICA and IN FLAMES, but I like to think of CREATION'S TEARS more as music for the emotionally disturbed, the suicidal, and those who have been oppressed by the female of the species."

BRAIN DRILL Completes Work On New Album
Santa Cruz, California's over-the-top technical metal phenoms BRAIN DRILL have completed work on the follow-up to 2008's tech "Apocalyptic Feasting". The band will again take fans on a mind-melting voyage through the boundaries of exactly how incredibly technical death metal can be. "Quantum Catastrophe" continues to push the band to their physical limits while somehow still exhibiting their trademark and infectious hook-laden riffs.
Guitarist Dylan Ruskin adds some insight into the musical process: "The album was definitely a huge accomplishment in the chronicling of the drill. The musical dynamics and skill level of everyone in the band have improved much more than the previous album. The songs are more technical and musically diverse but are also well balanced and catchy, including several bass breaks by Ivan Munguia and two songs written and recorded on guitar by him, entitled 'Awaiting Eminent Destruction' and 'Mercy To None'."
"Quantum Catastrophe" again features cover art by Pär Olofsson. The over-the-top cover art (which will be released shortly) perfectly complements the nearly unbelievable musicianship present on the record.
Fans can get a taste of what the new material is like, as well as new drummer Ron Casey, on a recently uploaded YouTube video. In the video, Dylan and Ron play the new track "Monumental Failure". Check it out below.
Vocalist Steve Rathjen explains the concept behind "Quantum Catastrophe": "Universal decimation (black holes, galactic cosmic radiation), pandemic disease and zombie re-awakenings — mankind is entering an age of mass speculation as foreseen by numerous ancient cultures. Space to all humanity still primarily remains a mystery even in our days of immense technological advancements. We know this void is filled with infinite extremities which could occur at any instant; easily decimating all habitations. We also know our planet has fulfilled these mass extinctions time and again centuries in the past. The question which remains, are we due for another apocalyptic transition?" | 0

BLACK COUNTRY To Complete Debut Album In April
A new supergroup has been formed with Jason Bonham, Glenn Hughes, Joe Bonamassa and Derek Sherinian. They are calling themselves BLACK COUNTRY, taking their name from the industrial area in England from which Bonham and Hughes both hail. The band is currently in the studio with producer Kevin Shirley (BLACK CROWES, AEROSMITH, LED ZEPPELIN) cutting tracks for an upcoming album to be released in late 2010 or early 2011.
With Bonham (LED ZEPPELIN, FOREIGNER) on drums, Sherinian (DREAM THEATER, BILLY IDOL, ALICE COOPER) on keyboards, Hughes (DEEP PURPLE, TRAPEZE) on bass and vocals and Bonamassa on guitar and vocals, the band already has six tracks cut. The next recording session will take place in March and the band hopes to finish recording in early April. Shirley made the announcement on his web site: "So there it is folks — the cat is out the bag! This is BLACK COUNTRY. The songs are all original and what a lineup. They are all the very best players in the world, for my money!"
Shirley added, "Jason Bonham is a totally unique drummer and a supreme, yet oh-so-tasty powerhouse. Derek Sherinian is super versatile, and is playing mostly overdriven Hammond organ in this ensemble and is the color on the palette. Glenn Hughes plays bass and sings with a range very, very few can even get close to, and Joe Bonamassa, perhaps the best blues rock guitarist around, plays hard riffing guitar as well as adding his signature vocals alongside Glenn. You'll just have to wait — we're planning to get this out late summer, and it's promising to be phenomenal!"
Recently named "The Blues Rock Titan" by Guitar World magazine, Bonamassa's new solo album, "Black Rock", will be arriving March 23, 2010. Produced by Shirley, who has produced Bonamassa's last six solo albums, it will be released on Bonamassa's own J&R Adventures label.

CARNAL FORGE Parts Ways With Drummer, Announces Replacement
Swedish thrashers CARNAL FORGE have parted ways with drummer Stefan Westerberg and have replaced him with Chris Barkensjö (CONSTRUCDEAD, ex-GRAVE).
Commented Stefan: "Thanks to all the fans, but now it's time for me to move on. I have joined a new band called HEADSTONE! We have also started STEEL ATTACK again with the original members and will do at least one reunion show soon. We will only play songs from the two first albums."
CARNAL FORGE returned to the studio in June 2009 to record the vocals for a new track called "Blood War" (formerly "Non Existence"). The song will appear on the band's next album, tentatively due later this year. An accompanying music video (produced and directed by guitarist Dino Medanhodzic) was filmed in October 2009.
"Blood War" was written, recorded and produced by CARNAL FORGE in the band's own studio in Sala, Sweden. The track was mixed by Medanhodzic. | 0

Not long after the release of "Essential Montreux", the five-CD set released in July 2009, Eagle is ensuring that Gary Moore fans get the ultimate live Montreux experience. Jam-packing four hours of music into this pristine package, this 2DVD/CD set extracts highlights from five concerts, ranging from 1990 to 2001. FATALIST: \'Frozen Epitaph\' Video Released
"Frozen Epitaph", the new video from Ventura, California death metallers FATALIST, can be viewed below. The track comes off the band's full-length debut, "The Depths of Inhumanity", which was released in the U.S. on November 23, 2009 via Ibex Moon Records.
Commented guitarist/vocalist Neil Burkdoll: "This video was made to promote the European release of our album on January 19th, 2010. It was a lot of hard work and it was totally low-budget, but we think it does the job.
"Shooting this video was the first time the four of us were even in the same room for at least six months and it was probably the last time as well.
"We want to thank Frank Boross and Rachel Burkdoll for all of the work they put into making this video a reality. Also a special thanks to John from Ibex Moon for funding the project. Now go and watch this fucking video!!!"
FATALIST is seeking a new frontman following the recent departures of guitarist/vocalist Wes Caley (ex-EXHUMED, UPHILL BATTLE) drummer Tyler Castro.
Commented Burkdoll: "We need someone who can handle the vocals from the debut album, 'The Depths of Inhumanity', and be able to add a new spin to the formula as well. The singer needs to be able to practice at least once a week and be able to perform live as well. Transportation and a good attitude are required."
Although the influences are obvious, the band injects its own personality into these 11 songs while staying true to the bruising-and-buzzing sounds of early-'90s Stockholm. Hear for yourself why James Hoare of Terrorizer praised FATALIST for playing "Swedish death metal like the masters" and shredding "the old way." | 0

GIANT - \'Promised Land\' Video Available; New Album Art Unveiled
Frontiers Records has released the video for the track 'Promised Land' from US-based rockers GIANT. Check it out below.
Late last year, Frontiers Records announced the return of Giant, for the release of a brand new album in early 2010 ( cover) .
After recording two albums with Christian rockers WHITEHEART in the early 80's and having made a name as session players in the pop and rock scene, guitarist / vocalist Dann Huff and his drummer brother David hooked up with Alan Pasqua, an experienced keyboards player which lent his talents to loads of jazz and rock artists and Nashville session bass player Mike Brignardello to form Giant.
They eventually signed with A&M Records and released 1989's Last Of The Runaways, featuring a classic, melodic hard rock sound, which yielded a top-twenty hit with 'I'll See You in My Dreams'.
Giant’s debut album is still regarded nowadays as one of the highest points in melodic hard rock of the end of the eighties melting diverse influences such as VAN HALEN, JOURNEY and U2 to create an instantly recognizable sound. After countless tours and live performances in the US and Europe, the band recorded the follow up album Time to Burn in 1991. Slightly more aggressive than it's predecessor, but still magnificent in the production and songwriting departments. this album is also regarded as a main source of influence for many melodic and hard rock bands nowadays.
Soon after the release of Time To Burn, Alan Pasqua decided to quit the band and went back to session work. The band toured once again Europe and US without him, but soon after disbanded. Dann Huff then became one of the most respected producers of our era, working in the rock, pop and country music with countless artists including SHANIA TWAIN, MEGADETH, FAITH HILL and several others. His brother David also started to become more and more involved in the production business and thanks to a mutual friend he was introduced in 1999 to Frontiers Records managers Serafino Perugino and Mario de Riso. This eventually brought to a meeting in Chicago were the label proposed David to bring back the name and the music of such a great band. The III album was released in 2001 with major acclaim in the classic and melodic hard rock community.
However Dann’s busy schedule along with the other members’ commitments, made the reunion impossible to carry on. However the vision of bringing back Giant as a living band unit with a recording and touring line-up and with of course the possibility to carry on the enormous legacy of the music produced so far with the same quality was raised a few times in conversations between David Huff and Frontiers.
As time went by it became apparent that Dann Huff could not be a full part of this concept, even though he loved everything that Giant was. Thus original members, drummer David Huff and bassist Mike Brignardello, who wanted to go back to rock, started an endless research for the right musicians that could be part of a renewed Giant lineup. And in the end the choice fell on singer extraordinaire Terry Brock (STRANGEWAYS, SEVENTH KEY) and on John Roth (WINGER) on guitars.
David Huff comments: “Yes, we have decided to move forward. But we’re not trying to replace Dann, because that could never be done. We have picked up where we left off and have added a great new flavor. We will always stay close to the original core of what Giant was: a melodic arena rock band based around guitar riffs. We will stay with the same principle of vocals too--great harmonies and melodies. Terry's vocal style is very complimentary to Giant’s core sound--he has tremendous feel (soul) and range along with power. John's guitar playing is very powerful too."
The band has completed the songwriting and according to David: “It feels good to be working on Giant again! In early April we had an incredible week with the new Giant lineup, we have some great new songs and we are working also on some ideas that have been taking dust on the shelf for years. Dann was part of our meeting and has co-written several songs which no doubt have his guitar flavors all over them. He was also very excited and he has agreed to appear in the album playing guitar on two songs”.
It is now possible to hear a sample from the first single, 'Promised Land', , which will also be the title track of the forthcoming album, that exclusively appears on the Rock The Bones Vol. 7 sampler that went on sale November 7th, 2009.
More song titles include: 'Our Love', 'Complicated Man', 'Two Worlds', 'Plenty Of Love', 'I’ll Wait For You'.
Further updates to follow. | 0

ARMORED SAINT: New Album Artwork Unveiled; First Track Posted Online
Los Angeles metal veterans ARMORED SAINT will release their new album, "La Raza", on March 16 via Metal Blade Records. The CD was recorded at Burbank, California's Tranzformer Studios, which is owned by Dave Jerdan (ALICE IN CHAINS, JANE'S ADDICTION), who produced ARMORED SAINT's 1991 classic "Symbol of Salvation" and Bryan Carlstrom, who engineered the same album. The band's first new release since 2001's "Nod to the Old School" was produced by bassist Joey Vera and engineered by Carlstrom and his assistant John Nuss.
To complete the package, the band employed photographer Stephanie Cabral and Metal Blade's own Brian Ames. Vera states, "Metal Blade is doing a really cool digipack package for us. We felt like the city of Los Angeles is such a big part of our fabric that we wanted to use that in the design of the artwork. So with the help of our good friend and photographer Stephanie Cabral and Brian Ames from the Metal Blade art department, we came up with a really cool package that represents our band and the music on this record. We also wanted to incorporate a 'green' action by leaving out the plastic CD tray and using recycled paper. The result is a classy and poignant package."
"La Raza" track listing:
01. Loose Cannon
02. Head On
03. Left Hook From Right Field
04. Get Off the Fence
05. Chilled
06. La Raza
07. Black Feet
08. Little Monkey
09. Blues

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS Begin Mixing New Album
William Goodman of SPIN.com recently conducted an interview with STONE TEMPLE PILOTS members Dean DeLeo (guitar) and Robert DeLeo (bass). An excerpt from the chat follows below.
SPIN.com: Where are you guys in the recording process now?
Dean DeLeo: We're done recording and will start mixing Monday.
Robert DeLeo: Yep, we just finished the last two songs at my home studio, and we're going through the editing process and getting everything sounding tasty. A gentleman by the name of Chris Lord-Alge, who actually mixed a song of ours back in early 2000 called "All in the Suit That You Wear", will mix the new album.
SPIN.com: What should fans expect from this record?
Robert: Fans are going get a great STP record. We know what STP sounds like — we have a sonic blueprint. It's always worked for me to put myself in the ears of the listener. I ask myself, "What kind of STP record would I want to hear?" The answer is a really cohesive record with songs that are going to be lasting. Fans don't necessarily want to hear songs from me being the best person I can be. Those songs are for a solo record. STP fans don't want that side of me. This band is attractive because we bring it to the edge of a cliff and write songs that have attitude.
SPIN.com: Can you tell me about a few songs from the album?
Robert: There's a song called "Between the Lines", which musically is like PAUL REVERE AND THE RAIDERS, with that '60s sound that I've always been a fan of. It's a '60s rockin' basher! There's another song called "Huckleberry Crumble". It's funny: these were actually working titles from when Dean, Eric [Kretz, drums], and I were writing the music at Eric's studio. Scott [Weiland, vocals] has gravitated toward them and we're officially using those titles, "Huckleberry Crumble" included. [Faux British accent]: "And it's another good rocker, baby!"

IMAGIKA: \'Portrait Of A Hanged Man\' Artwork Unveiled; New Song Posted Online
San Francisco Bay Area power/thrashers IMAGIKA will release their new album, "Portrait Of A Hanged Man", on March 19 via Metalville. The CD was recorded at Fang Studios in San Mateo, California by IMAGIKA guitarist Steve Rice and was mixed at KING DIAMOND guitarist Andy La Rocque's Sonic Train Studios in Varberg, Sweden. In addition to mixing the effort, La Rocque makes a guest appearance on the instrumental "A God No More". Drummer Henry Moreno was once again responsible for designing all the art for the CD (see cover image below), which marks the recording debut of new bassist Jim Pegram.
Commented Moreno: "Well, obviously the [artwork] concept had to be something to do with the CD title so I created the first piece which was a person with a noose around their neck but it didn't have that 'CD cover' feel. Metalville and Steve made some suggestions and one thing they came up with was what if the hanging man was a silhouette. I thought that was a cool idea and ran with that and really just followed the theme of the song, which is about a person seeing the haunting vision of a portrait of man being hanged that comes to life. Metalville and the band really liked the finished product and so the CD cover was born! The original first piece is also included in the CD booklet.
"I really had fun with this project and I believe it's some of the best work I have done so far. I hope the fans enjoy it as much as we do."
"Portrait Of A Hanged Man" track listing:
01. Scared To Death
02. The Hit
03. Keep The Wolves At Bay
04. G.H.B.
05. Portrait Of A Hanged Man
06. Simple Servant
07. One Word
08. My Final Hour
09. A God No More (feat. Andy La Rocque)
10. Halo Of Flies
The first run will be a special digipack with the bonus track "Shadow Of The Cross".

GOD FORBID Announce New Guitar Player
New Jersey metallers GOD FORBID, are back with a vengeance kicking off the New Year with a bang as they have just replaced THROWDOEN on the upcoming FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH North American tour. This massive trek, which kicks off on January 21st, will now lead the band directly into their final run of the Earthsblood album cycle with KITTIE this March. Visit www.myspace.com/godforbid now to view their complete touring schedule.
Doc Coyle (guitars, vocals) further states: “This is quite a surprise to announce God Forbid’s participation in the Five Finger Death Punch, SHADOWS FALL and 2 CENTS tour. This was a tour we were looking at when it was first being put together, so the fact that we eventually landed it, even though it was a last minute thing, is a stroke of good fortune. We do wish our friends in Throwdown well, and hope whatever happened turns out ok in the end. Big thanks to FFDP for bringing us out! We have become good friends with them over the last couple years, and the fact that they are making this huge gesture is awesome. We go all the way back with our brothers in Shadows Fall to our first tour in 2000, so this will be another trip around the rodeo with some old friends. We've never toured with 2 Cents, but know Adair from Manttis and the other guys seem super cool. Combined with the spring tour with Lamb of God and the summer Mayhem Festival, this will be the most successful US touring cycle GF has ever had, so it's a big reason to be positive in 2010!
In other news, we will be heading out with our friends in Kittie for a few weeks in March mainly focusing on the northeast. One of the sickest new bands around, PERIPHERY, will open the first part of the tour, and GWEN STACY will open the 2nd part. This will more than likely be the last tour before getting back to working on a new album.
This past fall and winter has been a refocusing period on a personal and business level for God Forbid figuring what the next phase of this band will be. Another announcement is that Matt Wicklund (WARREL DANE, ex-HIMSA,) is our new guitar player. He relocated to New Jersey and immediately started contributing new material. Along with being a great guy, he fit in with all of us really well, and it seemed like a no brainer. It's hard to say what the new material will be like, but so far I can say it's going to be very hook oriented, and obviously without Dallas, it will have a different vibe. Matt and I have very similar musical tastes, but he comes from a more trained background in theory which should create an interesting dynamic. He is also a very good lead guitar player, so there will probably be more solos. As soon as we do a new photo shoot, we will update all of our websites with Matt. We'll see you on tour!" | 0

Former HELLOWEEN Singer Talks About UNISONIC Project, Other Collaborations
In addition to joining forces with Dennis Ward (bass) and Kosta Zafiriou (drums) of Germany's PINK CREAM 69 and Swiss guitarist Mandy Meyer (ASIA, GOTTHARD, KROKUS) in a brand new project dubbed UNISONIC, former HELLOWEEN singer Michael Kiske has spent the last few months recording a guest appearance on the next GAMMA RAY's album, "To The Metal"; contributing to the track "The Ethereal Dream" by TOMORROW'S OUTLOOK; laying down vocals on the new AVANTASIA album; and putting the finishing touches on the "duet" album with American singer Amanda Somerville.
Michael took a break from all this activity to answer few questions that were submitted by fans through the MichaelKiske.net web site. A few excerpts follows below.
On UNISONIC:
"UNISONIC won't be just a mix of PLACE VENDOME and Kiske. You will certainly recognize the musicians. Dennis will always be Dennis. The same goes for me and Mandy etc. A bit of PLACE VENDOME you will also here, just less Eighties like produced, but we are working on our own fresh sound. UNISONIC will have more colours and less limitations."
"We will play songs from PLACE VENDOME, UNISONIC and probably two of my older songs I re-recorded on 'Past In Different Ways' album. I guess 'Kids Of The Century' and maybe 'A Little Time'. Especially PLACE VENDOME deserves some live playing. But it will only be songs we have written."
On the new collaboration with GAMMA RAY:
"I simply like Kai Hansen's personality. As we say here in Germany, he will always have a 'stone in my heart.' I connect the best HELLOWEEN years with him. When he asked me to sing a song chorus and I heard the song, I liked some other songs on his album a bit more, but he wanted me to do that one. It's all typical Kai Hansen. Energetic, played with fun, and not negative at all."
On the new project KISKE/SOMERVILLE:
"Amanda Somerville is so good that I very often thought she should really sing it all... I wouldn't mind to step down and give her MUCH more parts to sing... Love her voice! I have no doubts that this will be a killer album especially because of her."

KINGDOM OF SORROW Re-Signs With RELAPSE RECORDS, Begins Mixing New Album
KINGDOM OF SORROW, the metal project created by Jamey Jasta (HATEBREED) and Kirk Windstein (DOWN, CROWBAR), has re-signed with Relapse Records.
Jasta and Windstein have already finished recording the follow-up to KINGDOM OF SORROW's self-titled debut. The new CD is currently being mixed by Chris "Zeuss" Harris at Planet Z Recordings in Hadley, Massachusetts for a tentative late spring release. Additional album details will be revealed soon.
Commented Windstein: "Jamey and I are really excited to be working with Relapse on another KINGDOM OF SORROW album. They were a big part of the success of our first album and have been a great company to work with.
"Our new material kicks ass; we can't wait to unleash it! It's a real beast!"
Jasta added: "It was a no brainer to re-sign with Relapse for another KINGDOM OF SORROW album. They are a great company who really gets it and we're extremely excited to have them 110% behind us."
KINGDOM OF SORROW released its self-titled debut in early 2008. The band embarked on a 70-city tour in support of the CD and took part in the Ozzfest and Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival tours. Peaceville Records has set a February 15 release date for the "collector's edition" of "With Fear I Kiss The Burning Darkness", the second studio album from the Swedish melodic death metal band AT THE GATES.

This package also includes a DVD containing a live show recorded in Groningen, Holland in 1992 during the band's European tour with MY DYING BRIDE; featuring many early classics from the band's first two albums and debut EP and giving a rare glimpse of a band on their way to great heights as a key influence in melodic death metal.

SKALD Continuing Work On New Album
Swedish folk metal band SKALD has set "Vitterland" (English translation: "Witherland") as the title of its new album, due later in the year via Unexploded Records. According to the group, "The reason it has taken [such a] long time, and will take even more, is mostly because we decided early on that the new songs should be 100% stronger and better than anything we've ever done before. We also decided that there would be 10 songs on the record — no more, no less. As a result, we have made a couple of songs that didn't make it on to the final product. This is something we've never done before but we felt that we, as a band couldn't stand behind these songs 100%. But now we are all done."
"Vitterland" track listing:
01. Jordegryning (Världsalltets Konstnär)
02. En Höstlig Storm
03. Häxhammaren
04. Gygror Sjöng En Trolsk Madrigal
05. Under Månens Brio
06. Uti Helvetessalen
07. En Diffus Kontur
08. Hjälten
09. Fjättrad Uti Kedjor Av Brons
10. Ett Sista Farväl (Jordeskymning) | 0

MEGADETH Frontman Dave Mustaine And SLAYER\'s Kerry King - \"Two Old Friends That Are Trying To Get To Know Each Other Again\"
MEGADETH frontman Dave Mustaine has checked in with the following update:
"Droogies!
Last night after the Chargers loss, I drove home dejected and dropped off the guys that rode with us, picked-up my car, and headed back to Temecula.
It was about an hour later that I left my apartment and drove to TGIF in Temecula and met up with Kerry King, and hung out for about 45 minutes, had some drinks, he ate (I got sick from the Margaritas at the game), and we just talked about the past, about the future, and a lot about stuff that is just private talk between two old friends that are trying to get to know each other again.
I really, really had a good time seeing KK last night, although not as much as the bartenders that were serving two of the Four Horsemen. I thought that the guy was going to start crying when we started talking and the guy realized who we were. I had a beanie and my hair tied up, and KK was in a hoodie with a beanie on top. So it wasn't like we were trying to be noticed. We were pretty well disguised and we left, shook hands, did a bro hug, and I walked off to my car and he to his.
I feel sorry for the first couple of Carnage shows. Because we are really pissed and ready to play!
Come on American Carnage!"
