JOE PERRY Discusses The Future Of AEROSMITH
 Brad Wheeler of The Globe and Mail recently conducted an interview with AEROSMITH guitarist Joe Perry. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.
The Globe and Mail: You've got your solo album out and you're ready to hit the road, but, first, can you tell us the status of AEROSMITH?
Perry: Right now, we're talking about getting another singer to fill in for Steven [Tyler]. I don't know what's going on with him, but as far as AEROSMITH goes, we're going to find somebody to sing.
The Globe and Mail: Will you go the unknown, sound-alike-singer route, or look for a name guy?
Perry: I think it would make more sense, with a band like AEROSMITH, to get somebody who the fans might recognize. There's no sense going out there and being an AEROSMITH clone band. In order for both parties to get something out of this, to move things along musically, it's important to get somebody who's a legitimate headliner on their own.
The Globe and Mail: AEROSMITH's former A&R rep John Kalodner recently told Rolling Stone magazine that you guys aren't able to make an album like "Toys in the Attic" because you're not 23 years old any more. How do you respond to that?
Perry: I've been approached by hundreds of fans who've asked me "why don't you do a record like the old ones?" I've tried to figure out exactly what that they're talking about. Is it the sound? The way the songs were written? The lyrics? Is it the way the guitars play?

PAUL MCCARTNEY Wanted To Be In THEM CROOKED VULTURES
 According to NME.com, Paul McCartney wanted a place in Dave Grohl's supergroup THEM CROOKED VULTURES, but was turned down in favor of LED ZEPPELIN legend John Paul Jones.
THE BEATLES star said he was first told about THEM CROOKED VULTURES by Grohl when the two went out to dinner together after playing together at last February's Grammys ceremony.
"We went out for a bite to eat afterwards and Dave told me he was starting this band with Josh [Homme]," he told the Daily Mail. "I asked him who was playing bass and he rather sheepishly told me he'd approached John. So you read it here first; Paul McCartney was nearly the bass player in THEM CROOKED VULTURES."

DIABLO SWING ORCHESTRA Parts Ways With Drummer, Announces Replacement
 Drummer Andreas Halvardsson has left the Swedish avant-garde rock band DIABLO SWING ORCHESTRA for "personal reasons" and has been replaced by Petter Karlsson (ex-THERION, HOLOCOASTER). The band states, "We've only had one rehearsal together so far, but we were all blown away by [Petter's] drumming. Petter is also a skilled songwriter, so it will be interesting to see what he can add to the already twisted process of making a DIABLO SWING ORCHESTRA song.
The group continues, "We are now rehearsing to get ready for touring later this year. New songs are also in the making and pre-production will probably start in the winter."

THE SMASHING PUMPKINS: New Song Available For Free Download
 THE SMASHING PUMPKINS have issued a brand new track called "Widow Wake My Mind", available exclusively as a free download for 24 hours through MySpace Music. The song marks the second release from the band's in-progress 44-song project "Teargarden By Kaleidyscope". "Widow" was the top marquee song at MySpace yesterday and can be downloaded at this location. It will also be featured Tuesday at MySpace and via a cross-promotion at www.ilike.com. Then starting today, it will be available at www.smashingpumpkins.com and the site also offers a widget enabling fans to host the song anywhere on the web.

PAIN OF SALVATION Taking Part In Sweden’s Song Contest Melodifestivalen
 On the back of promoting their highly acclaimed Linoleum EP MCD released via InsideOutMusic on November 16th, 2009, Swedish PAIN OF SALVATION have been confirmed to join the national Swedish competition for the Eurovision song contest, Melodifestivalen. The contest’s first round will be taking place in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden on February 6th, 2010 and will be broadcasted live by National TV-Station SVT. Pain of Salvation will be appearing in the contest with their song 'Road Salt'.
Pain of Salvation’s frontman Daniel Gildenlöw comments the event as follows: “For those who don't know what Melodifestivalen is, it is the biggest thing in the Swedish music industry. A huge machinery built to single out the Swedish contender for the Eurovision Song Contest. Out of thousands and thousands of sent in songs, 30 are selected by a jury to participate in this national contest, viewed by half the population when it's on TV. It's a big thing, to say the least!”
Pain of Salvation have just completed a video clip for the title track of their current release, 'Linoleum', directed by Owe Lingwall of Village Road Film (AMORPHIS). A teaser for the powerful clip can be viewed below.
The full clip for 'Linoleum' will be launched on January 20th.
After promoting the release of the Linoleum EP MCD with shows in Russia and their first ever visit to Australia supporting DREAM THEATER, Pain of Salvation also played a string of selected headline shows in Central Europe at the end of 2009 and will next be traveling to Greece to perform two shows at the end of January with LAKE OF TEARS, AGUA DE ANNIQUE, DISILLUSION and SCAR OF THE SUN.

ROTTING CHRIST: Audio Samples Of Entire New Album Available
 Audio samples of all the tracks that are set to appear on "Aealo", the new album from Greek extreme metallers ROTTING CHRIST, are available for streaming on Amazon.fr. Due on February 15 in Europe and February 23 in the U.S. via Season Of Mist, the CD was recorded at Lunatach Studios in Katerini, Greece and will feature guest appearances by Greek-American vocalist Diamanda Galas and PRIMORDIAL frontman Alan A. Nemtheanga.

BROTHER FIRETRIBE DVD Featuring NIGHTWISH Members Due Next Month
 BROTHER FIRETRIBE — the Finnish AOR/hard rock band featuring NIGHTWISH guitarist Emppu Vuorinen — will release a concert DVD, "Live At Apollo", on February 12. The disc was shot on April 15, 2009 at the Apollo in Helsinki and features a guest appearance by NIGHTWISH singer Anette Olzon on the song "Heart Full Of Fire".

ZERAPHINE - sind im Studio, neues Album kommt im Sommer!
 Nachdem Sven Friedrich zuletzt vornehmlich mit SOLAR FAKE auf Solo-Pfaden wandelte, sind nun wieder ZERAPHINE an der Reihe. Wie die Berliner Gothic Rocker vermelden, befinden sie sich bereits im Studio, um den überfälligen Still-Nachfolger unter Dach und Fach zu bringen. Mit einer Veröffentlichung dürfte spätestens im Sommer zu rechnen sein – dann werden vier albumlose Jahre enden. Album- oder Songtitel sind allerdings noch nicht bekannt. | 0 | |

UNREIN - neues Video \'Sea of Silence\' online!
 UNREIN möchten mit ihrem Debutalbum "Aufbruch" einen ersten Beweis dafür vorlegen, dass elektronische Musik sich nicht in Langeweile und sich stupide wiederholenden Refrains verlieren muss.
Letztes Jahr hat ja Unrein bei Art TeleVision | Entertainment welches seit Anfang 2009 das Förderprojekt NCB (NewComerBand) ins Leben gerufen und unterstützt NewComerBand’s bei der Produktion von einem Musikclip.
Unrein hat diesen Förderpreis gewonnen Art TeleVision | Entertainment produzierten mit UNREIN das fehlende Video. Nur wussten wir Unreinen nicht das wir ab Drehtag nur Pech hatten... leider wurde es nie fertiggestellt da die Aufnahme kaput und verloren ging. Nun hat der Andy von UNREIN und der Micha van der Zee das Video aus alten fetzen die zusammmengetragen wurden zusammengeschnitten hier ist das Ergebniss. | 0 | |

ARKAIK: New Song Posted Online
 Riverside, California-based technical/progressive death metallers ARKAIK have posted a new song, "The Divine Manifestation", on their MySpace page. The track comes off the band's forthcoming debut album, "Reflections Within Dissonance", which is scheduled for release on January 26 via Unique Leader Records. The CD was mixed by Samur Khouja at Seahorse Sound Studios and was mastered by Stefano Morabito of 16 Cellar Studios (HOUR OF PENANCE, FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE). According to the band, "The album consists of 10 tracks that blend brutality, technical fret work, memorable grooves, powerful vocals and much more."

JON OLIVA To Guest On AVANTASIA Album
 Jon Oliva (JON OLIVA'S PAIN, TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA, SAVATAGE) has joined the list of guest musicians who will appear on the forthcoming release from EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet's AVANTASIA project.
Commented Sammet: "Jon will appear on a theatrical song called 'Death Is Just A Feeling'.
"We just had a press listening last weekend in Mousse T's prestigious Peppermint Park studios in Hannover where we had recorded the duet with Klaus Meine a few months ago, for example.
"Many of the numerous journalists that had come from all over Europe said that they have the feeling this is going to be the most epic and simply the best AVANTASIA stuff with the widest variety so far, yet every song fits perfectly to the enchanting conceptual character.
"I am proud; I knew we were gonna do something momentous, but it feels great that it’s been confirmed once more.
"Jon's song stood out as it is like a little movie itself, very eerie, and it could be a perfect chapter in a horror musical."

HEATHEN: Two New Songs Available For Streaming
 Two new songs from San Francisco Bay Area thrashers HEATHEN — "Dying Season" and "Control By Chaos" — are available for streaming on the band's MySpace page. Both tracks appear on the group's long-awaited new album, "The Evolution Of Chaos", which will be released in the U.S. on February 16.
