CULT OF LUNA: First Two Albums To Be Released On Vinyl
Swedish "art rockers" CULT OF LUNA have issued the following update:
"As some might know, Earache have decided to finally release our first two albums (2001's self-titled and 2003's 'The Beyond') on vinyl. Each record will be double LP on gatefolded sleeves. They have been re-designed using abstract photography — still honoring the original artwork and typography."
Photos of the upcoming vinyl releases of "Cult Of Luna" and "The Beyond" can be found here and here.
CULT OF LUNA will release a hardback book/audiobook called "Eviga Riket" on February 23 by C.O.L Press. According to the band, the book is "a short story covering the life and times of Mr. Holger Nilsson, the full story behind the 'Eternal Kingdom' [CULT OF LUNA's latest album] theme. The book will be bilingual, written in Swedish and translated into English. The narrated versions of this short story is accompanied by newly written CULT OF LUNA pieces and soundscapes."
"Eternal Kingdom" is based on an actual journal found in an old mental home. The CD takes listeners on a weird and wonderful journey through the mind of a former patient as he tells the tale of how his wife came to be murdered, and of the mythical creatures he claims to have encountered during the time of the harrowing event.
CULT OF LUNA's DVD, "Fire Was Born", was released in April 2009 via Earache Records). Along with an epic live show recorded on July 1, 2008 at Scala in London, England, the disc — which was mixed, edited and designed by the band — features footage of mainman Johannes Persson and Anders Teglund (keyboards) answering questions from fans all around the world and the videos for "The Watchtower", "Leave Me Here" and "Back To Chapel Town". | 0

IMMORTAL Says \'No\' To Norwegian SPELLEMANN Nomination
Norwegian black metallers IMMORTAL have "rejected" their nomination in the "Metal" category at this year's Spellemann awards.
The nominees for the largest and oldest Norwegian music awards show, which is often referred to as the country's equivalent to the American Grammy Awards, were announced earlier today (Monday, January 25) and included nods to IMMORTAL for the band's latest album, "All Shall Fall", as well as to the most recent releases from CODE, ÅRABROT and THE CUMSHOTS, all of whom were also nominated in the "Metal" category.
After receiving the news that they were nominated for a Spellemann award, the members of IMMORTAL issued a brief statement saying, "IMMORTAL says no to Spellemann nomination. IMMORTAL has registered that we are nominated to a Spellemann award for 'All Shall Fall'. We hereby wish to announce that we reject this nomination."
IMMORTAL manager Håkon Grav told the blog of the Norwegian TV program "Lydverket" that the IMMORTAL members themselves should explain why they have chosen to reject the Spellemann nomination, but offered his personal view on the drama.
"IMMORTAL doesn't necessarily want to be the biggest band in the world, they just want to be the rawest band," he said. "And honestly, one has to say that there are few black metal bands who have kept their credibility while still playing for 80,000 fans around Europe."
When "Lydverket" contacted Marte Thorsby, the head of the Spellemann board, to get her response to IMMORTAL's statement, she said that it would not pose a problem for the awards show. "We're not gonna force anybody to be nominated for a Spellemann award, so we'll remove them from the nominations. This is completely unproblematic."

Reunited TREAT To Release New Studio Album
Twenty-five years after the release of their sensational debut album, "Scratch and Bite", and eighteen years since their last self-titled studio album saw the light of day, Swedish melodic rock legends TREAT will return with a brand new CD, "Coup De Grace".
Due on March 19 in Europe and April 6 in the U.S. via Frontiers Records, "Coup de Grace" is the album that every melodic rock fan hoped for but never dared to dream of: a classic rock masterpiece with thunderous guitars, powerful yet seductive melodies and hook-laden songs, all wrapped up in a production that combines the best of "now" and "then."
"It's been twenty-five years in the making," says guitarist and main songwriter Anders Wikström. "Since day one I knew we had this album in us. The ideas were there. The vision. But it took us this long to find the right tools to make it all come true. It took five albums, millions of miles on the road, a thirteen-year-long break and a whole new perspective on life to get it right. In hindsight, it now seems that everything we've done since we formed the band has been pointing in one direction. Of course, we didn't know it back then, but this is what we aimed for all along."
According to a press release, "Coup de Grace" is a collection of songs that is so much more than just kick-ass, sing-along rock'n'roll songs. They are more a sort of mini-autobiographies from five grown men reflecting on life.
"This album is a statement of who we are today," explains Wikström. "We're older… yeah, perhaps even wiser. We look at our lives and the world around us in a different way. I wanted to reflect that in our lyrics. I mean, we're all fathers and we raise our kids in a world that's in a turmoil. There's a lot of pressures, fears and tough expectations."
"We got back together in 2006 because we all missed playing together. We released a compilation album and did a tour, but we weren't sure what to do next. In 2008 we all felt that we had an album to do," continues Wikström. "I started demoing songs and in May 2009 we were ready to hit the studio."
Produced and recorded in Stockholm, Sweden by Anders Wikström, partly together with keyboard player Patrick Appelgren, "Coup de Grace" is an album that's going to stand out in a musical climate where mediocrity and superficiality are an asset but where talent, musicianship and dedication is not required to make the charts.
"Coup de Grace" ( обложка) track listing:
01. Prelude - Coup de Grace
02. The War Is Over
03. All In
04. Paper Tiger

JOE PERRY: Auditions To Begin For New AEROSMITH Singer
According to The Pulse of Radio, AEROSMITH plans to begin auditioning new singers next month, with guitarist Joe Perry telling Canada's QMI Agency that the band is "already getting the word out there." He added that they will "start having some auditions, making some phone calls. Hopefully, we'll have found a new singer by the summer, and AEROSMITH will be able to go back out on the road." The group aims to replace original frontman Steven Tyler, who announced last fall that he was taking two years off to pursue a solo project before later checking himself into rehab for an addiction to painkillers.
Although Tyler stated that he planned to be "writing, recording and performing with AEROSMITH" once his stint in rehab was completed, Perry said that the rest of the group is not sure what Tyler's status is: "It's kind of hard to get a straight answer about what's going on. He has to have leg surgery and foot surgery and it's basically going to take him out of the picture for about a year, year and a half. So, in the meantime, the rest of the band wants to play."
Perry pointed out that the band hired fill-ins for bassist Tom Hamilton and guitarist Brad Whitford last year when both were ill, saying, "That's basically how I look at it; we need another singer to fill in."
Perry has said in other interviews that AEROSMITH might lean toward hiring an established "name" vocalist to tour with the group, and there were a few people they already had in mind.
But he also told QMI that the door is open for Tyler to return: "I'm ready to write with him, to play on stage with him anytime he's physically ready and wants to do it. But it's really up to him . . . the last things he said to the press were that he wanted to work with the band and sing with the band, so we'll see."
Meanwhile, Palm Springs, California newspaper the Desert Sun reported that Tyler made a surprise appearance at a local bar called the Tilted Kilt on Tuesday night (January 19), not far from the Betty Ford Center where he is in rehab. Tyler, accompanied by a publicist and management rep, reportedly sang the AEROSMITH hit "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing" during a karaoke competition. One witness claimed that he only drank Shirley Temples and left after singing.

EVOCATION Prepares To Record New Album
Swedish death metallers EVOCATION have issued the following update:
"It's January 2010 and it's cold, dark and kinda depressive. This is the perfect conditions for us to start recording our full length #3, which is also once again going to be released by the mighty Cyclone Empire in the fall this year; we're aiming at October.
"We have 11 new tracks and right now we are finishing up our pre-recordings and we have to say that it feels really good. The sound will be more raw but it will still be as EVOCATION as one can expect — plain, raw and brutal. Some of the new songs will hit your faces with such a force that you will have trouble recovering afterwards.
"We leave 2009 with proud faces, having such a good festival summer and last but not least the mighty European tour together with CANNIBAL CORPSE, DYING FETUS and OBSCURA. All of the bands were amazing both in private as on stage. This leaves us nothing but strength and confidence for the next album and hunger for more, more and more." | 0

KREATOR - Voting For 25th Anniversary Tour Setlist Continues: \"Just Because We Are Adding Some Older Classic Songs, This Does Not Mean We Will Only Be Playing Those\"
KREATOR frontman Mille Petrozza has issued the following update:
"Greetings Kreator fans!
So far, the voting is going very well on the forum! In case you are not aware, we are having people vote for their favourite 'classic' Kreator songs that they would like to hear on the next tour. It is Kreator’s 25th Anniversary, so we will be adding some classic songs that people don’t usually get to see live. You still have until February 1st to vote, so if you have not done so, please go to this thread on the forum to vote here.
If you do not vote on the forum your vote will not count. It is impossible to keep up with the songs requested to us on the myspace status updates, comment section, emails, Facebook, and everywhere else. The thread on the forum is the only place we are looking at for the requests.
Please realize that just because we are adding some older classic songs, this does not mean we will ONLY be playing those! We never said that's the only thing we were playing. Sorry for the confusion, but we still must play at least some of the regular classics as well as new songs. We can’t deny half of our existence. And after all, it IS the Hordes of Chaos Part II tour.
And for the many people who have been asking and wondering about Ventor. Yes, he WILL be on the tour. He just had to take some personal time out during the last tour.
Thrash on!"

SONIC SYNDICATE - Fans Invited To Name New Album
Sweden's SONIC SYNDICATE are giving the fans the opportunity to name the band's next album, which is currently being recorded. Go to their official facebook page here to take part in the name game.
Vocalist Nathan J. Biggs recently issued a new studio blog. Check out an excerpt below:
"Yo! Have a good weekend? We sure did.
As expected, the human metronome Johnny Boy finished all of this drums with time to spare! Plus it was Friday, so in the words of the late great Dimebag Darrell it was time to 'Getcha pull on!'"
Day 5 - We've Really Matured as a Band, Honestly!
All the drums have been recorded and edited. All except this final track which we just handed to Toby (Wright / producer). As you can imagine he is a pro at editing! But foolishly we challenged the infamous American. We bet that John, Karin, Robin and I could get to the store and buy a party worth of alcohol and get back to the studio before he was done editing it... GAME ON!
With the clock ticking we ran to the bus, drove it well over the speed limit into the centrum of Kungalv, Sweden and then skidded into the car park of the liquor store. Piling out we grabbed two trollies and split into two teams. Karin and I were in charge of wine and beer whilst John and Robin took the mission of spirits. Naturally, we started racing and chasing each other around the system bologat, and then...
... CRASH!!!@%£$!!!!(*&@$*(&@!!!!
We had smashed one bottle of red wine, one bottle of whiskey and beer was fizzing and pissing all over the place.
So, the options were:
A) Pay for the ruined produce, offer to clean up and apologize
B) RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Obviously we picked the latter and Sonic left the store as quickly as we came, hoping we wouldn't be spotted. When we got back to the studio we barricaded ourselves in and checked the news channel for our WANTED! reports and pictures of our faces. So far there has been nothing and we got one of our technicians to collect more party booze for us! However, all of this resulted in us loosing the bet with Toby and us having to buy that night's take away sushi."

ENSLAVED Begins Recording New Album
Founding member/songwriter/rhythm guitarist Ivar Bjørnson of Norwegian masters of progressive/experimental metal ENSLAVED has issued the following studio update:
"This is a short blog from the studio where we — ENSLAVED — have started to record our new album. We are doing the drums in Duper Studios here in Bergen; this time around we are recording everything in our hometown, something we last did with [2004's] 'Isa'. Iver Sandøy (TRINACRIA, MANNGARD, EMMERHOFF & THE MELANCHOLY BABIES) is engineering the drum recording; and we feel we are in very good hands. The remaining instruments will be recorded in Herbrand [Larsen, keyboards] and [lead guitarist] Ice Dale's Earshot Studio, with a few small exceptions done in Peersonal Sound (my own studio).
"We're starting off as we always do: with me and [drummer] Cato [Bekkevold] going in first.
"The session started out beautifully with the perfect starting point for the drum sound and the first song being laid down by Cato. This song is a musical and lyrical contemplation on a rune — one associated with travel...
"We'll get back to more on the songs later!
"After 'Vertebrae', it has been a hectic period, with shows, tours and everything that is going on around the band. Yet it has been a remarkably self-energizing process making this new album. For starters, the dynamics have never been better, both literally in the music — and metaphorically, meaning the working climate within the band.
"Writing music is rewarding when you know the other members will take your ideas seriously and give everything they've got to make the best out of every single idea. The amazing feedback we've gotten after 'Vertebrae' hasn't exactly made us more modest: We picked up some very valuable confidence from that. A third pillar of inspiration is the continuing ideological struggle against the dogmas: political, monotheistic, moral dogmas that keep getting a stronger and stronger chokehold on man. Some dangers are growing while others are on the rebound (for now). ENSLAVED is an ongoing project to channel alternative currents; resistance to those trying to force-fit the mind into the tiny squares of one-doms and tyrannies.
"After all that hot air, I've asked Cato to provide some thoughts on the new material and the recording process."
Cato: "We started yesterday to set the sound, and from there on the drums for two songs were nailed. Today, on the second day, we started at noon and worked our way through three more songs.
"Ivar is very easy (to work with) and we are really getting payback for the work put in advance of the recording. I am, in other words, getting close to finishing my part of the album, and that's fine by me — I would climb the walls if the whole session would take anything more than a week.
"The songs are, like always, pretty varied both in mood, speed and style. The cool thing is that none of us actually know how it's gonna turn out in the very end. What ideas Ice Dale has for guitar solos, only he knows."

GORGOROTH Put The Boots To A Boot
Guitarist Infernus from Norwegian black metallers GORGOROTH has issued the following update:
"According to several major online retailers, a new Gorgoroth CD called Forces Of Satan Storms is supposed to be released on January 26th, by a company called IMV Blueline. This has understandably led to some confusion, as no such release has been announced on the official Gorgoroth website. I would therefore like to make it clear to all that this CD is to be considered a bootleg, as it has not been sanctioned by the band. Also, to the best of my knowledge, this CD has been successfully stopped and will not be released at all."

"The Common Man's Collapse" was previously described in a press release as "replete with swift and fluid guitar flourishes, spitting forth notes like lava, lock step drumming that is swifter than a hummingbird's wings and vocals that range from Cro-Magnon throat tones to bestial rage while retaining enunciation." | 0

REDEMPTION Guitarist / Founder Issues Update On Cancer Treatment - \"All Good News\"
REDEMPTION guitarist / founder Nick van Dyk has issued the following message to the fans following reports that he is battling cancer:
"Hello friends. Thank you very much for all the expressions of concern and well-wishes. It has been a rough year behind me, but I believe I am on the mend. I went for the most aggressive treatment possible with the hopes of killing the disease, and right now there is no trace of the disease left in me. I remain on three kinds of medicine for the next three years, and I will be glad when I don't need to take it -- but in the meantime the hope is it will keep my body toxic enough to kill off any remaining cancer cells. As of now, while it's certainly not a guarantee, there is a pretty good chance that I have been cured, so long as I can tolerate this ongoing treatment.
Thanks again very much for your concern -- I hope to see many of you soon as we play out in support of Snowfall on Judgment Day."

CRASHDIET: \'Reborn In Sleaze\' Tribute Album In The Works
Street Symphonies Records has begun to work on "Reborn In Sleaze: A Tribute To Dave Lepard". Ten of sleaze rock's hottest bands will contribute to a special re-recording of CRASHDIET's "Rest In Sleaze" LP to pay tribute to singer David Hellman (a.k.a. Dave Lepard), who committed suicide in January 2006 at the age of 25. The album will feature exclusive recordings by PEEP SHOW, JOHNNY BURNING, SEX SLAVES and KILLER KLOWN. More bands will be announced soon. The tribute album will be released sometime in 2010.
Street Symphonies Records is the only Italian record label dedicated exclusively to glam/sleaze/hard rock.

CRASHDIET has set "Generation Wild" as the title of its third album, due late March via Gain Records. The 10-song CD was helmed by RamPac, the production and songwriting team formed by Johan Ramström and Patrik Magnusson, in Gröndal, Sweden and was mixed by Tobias Lindell. The title track will hit Swedish radio stations later this month. Other songtitles set to appear on the album include "Native Nature", "Chemical", "Rebel" and "Down With The Dust".
CRASHDIET last year announced the addition of Simon "Simme" Cruz from the Stockholm act JAILBAIT as the group's new lead singer.
The band parted ways with its last vocalist, the Finland-based H. Olliver Twisted, in July 2008. | 0

WYRD Sign To Moribund Records; Working On New Album
Moribund Records has announced the signing of Finland's WYRD, one of the underground's preeminent pagan metal bands.
Formed and fronted by erstwhile AZAGHAL guitarist Narqath, for the past decade Wyrd have released eight full-length albums, each one more celebrated than the next, on a number of cult underground labels, including Avantgarde, Solistitium, Millenium Metal Music, Omvina, and Naga Productions.
Now, Narqath brings his muse and Wyrd to Moribund Records, and is currently working on the band's ninth full-length album, to be titled Death Of The Sun - a release for the latter half of the year is tentatively planned.
Narqath also intimates that plans are afoot for a professional promo video, and that mixing/mastering chores for Death Of The Sun will likely be a high-profile metal producer. More info coming soon.
