THE ALLIGATOR WINE To Release Demons Of The Mind Album In April; Artwork, Tracklisting Revealed

Vintage rock duo, The Alligator Wine, have announced that their debut album, Demons Of The Mind, will be released on April 24 via Century Media Records.

The Alligator Wine take you to a psychedelic journey into a dark yet groovy space. Inspired by early 70s music, horror movies and fashion those two guys from the Black Forest pump out everything from creepy dark tunes to 70s disco grooves. But The Alligator Wine manage to merge their deep spaces and distorted grooves into super catchy and great songs that can spice up any party or funeral! And the coolest part: It's only two people and there are no guitars at all.

They just need a Hammond organ, a Moog bass, Drums and a lot of weird effects to create their unique sound. If you wanna hear the Kraut version of The Doors or some Led Zeppelin - like riffs played without any guitars, here's your chance.

TEENAGE TIME KILLERS Post 18 Unreleased Pro-Shot Videos From Hollywood 2015 Show In Tribute To REED MULLIN

On January 27th, Corrosion Of Conformity confirmed the passing of drummer Reed Mullin via Twitter saying: "It’s with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to a friend, a brother and pioneer. Reed you are loved and always will be. Lets all take a moment..."

Teenage Time Killers was the Mullin's brainchild shared with guitarist Mick Murphy (My Ruin, The Birds Of Satan, Neanderthal) and producer John “Lou” Lousteau. Murphy has posted the following message:

"Due to the recent death of our brother in rock Reed Mullin, we are posting 18 never before seen pro-shot live videos (in loving memory) from the one and only show Teenage Time Killers played at the Fonda Theatre in Hollywood, Ca. on September 12, 2015.

Teenage Time Killers was Reed’s brainchild and John Lousteau and I had a blast helping him make it happen. I’ll be forever proud of the music that came out of that whole project. Having so many legendary artists from metal and punk genres collaborate with us by adding their lyrics and vocal talents to our songs has made the album timeless, and our gig at the Fonda was an awesome night I'm sure those who were there will never forget. Thankful and humbled to be even a small part of Reed’s incredible musical legacy. He will be missed by many. R.I.P."

The following videos were filmed by Jill & Gary Bandfield of Tour Bus Live and edited by Mick Murphy.

"Exploder"

"Your Empty Soul"

"Clawhoof"

"Say Goodnight To The Acolyte"

Check out all the video clips here.

Teenage Time Killers’ Greatest Hits Vol. 1 was released on July 31st, 2015 via Rise Records. The album is 20 concise seismic shocks created by an all-star line up of punk and metal legends spanning decades.

Joining Reed on drums and Mick on guitar on the album’s 20 mostly original tracks and few covers of underground classics (including the Rudimentary Peni deep cut that inspired the project’s title) includes: Jello Biafra, Randy Blythe of Lamb Of God, Dave Grohl and Pat Smear of Foo Fighters, Nick Oliveri, Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio, Corey Taylor of Slipknot and Stone Sour, Tommy Victor of Prong and Danzig, Lee Ving of Fear, Mike “IX” Williams of Eyehategod, Mullin’s Corrosion Of Conformity band mates Mike Dean and Woody Weatherman, Karl Agell and many, many more. See below for a full rundown.

All instrumental tracks on Teenage Time Killers’ Greatest Hits Vol. 1 were recorded at Grohl’s 606 Studios in Northridge, CA. The album was produced by John "Lou" Lousteau, Reed Mullin and Mick Murphy, engineered and mixed by John "Lou" Lousteau at 606.

NIGHT CROWNED Featuring Former Members Of DARK FUNERAL, NIGHTRAGE And CIPHER SYSTEM To Release New Album This Month; "IRA" Video Available

Night Crowned - featuring Ken Romlin (vocals), Johan Eskilsson (Cipher System / guitars), Janne Jaloma Dark Funeral session / drums) and Henric Liljesand (bass / ex-Nightrage) - will release their new album, Impius Viam, via Noble Demon on February 28th. Combining past and present members of legendary acts as Dark Funeral, Nightrage and Cipher System, this unholy ritual is a true reawakening of the sounds dormant from the most influential acts and masterpieces of the Scandinavian ‘90s.

Check out the lyric video for "Unholy Path" and the official video for "IRA" below. Album details will be available soon.

In the frozen vasts of Europe's northernmost realms, a new slithering seed is festering at the heart of the Swedish scene - Night Crowned. A spawn formed from an unholy communion between current and previous members of the underground elite such as The Crown, Dark Funeral, Nightrage and Cipher System, this infestation is set to grow from a rumoured disease into a full-scale pandemic.

Night Crowned's musical vision is as clear as it is putrid; a reawakening of sounds dormant from the most influential acts and masterpieces of the Scandinavian 90's, although with all the advantages of a cutting edge, surgically precise production.

With a combined catalogue of over 20 full-length albums, this degenerate infant is procreated from seasoned and battle-hardened veterans, although with all the hunger that only such a gluttonous monster can possess. There will be no warning. No anti dote, and no remedy. At first you will feel nauseous, then your body will be covered in black boils, and finally both your mind and and matter will have been thoroughly infected by the blight that is - Night Crowned.

Drummer Baard Kolstad comments: “I always like to do full honest video playthroughs of certain Leprous songs after the different album recording processes. A nice way to share details and a different kind of energy for the listener/viewer. There’s no secret that 'The Sky Is Red' is a tough one and after 27 shows playing it live, it’s interesting to see how the interpretation of the song and performance has evolved and changed.”

There was no doubt we needed to play way more territories and countries for this album than “only 4 weeks”, so here we go again, with a full production, headlining for 3 more weeks in several new countries that never have seen the new live show. Klone and Maraton as guests! We cannot wait!"

CREMATORY Release New Single "Unbroken" Feat. EQUILIBRIUM's Robse; Music Video Streaming

Prepare for an electrifying synergy of industrial harshness and dimness: German pioneers of European gothic metal, Crematory, have released their new single, “Unbroken”, off of their upcoming eponymous album, to be released via Napalm Records on March 6.

Along with a flashing and energetic music video, the monarchs of the night enter their manifestation of autonomy with the second single and title track “Unbroken”, featuring Robse of the German power metal band Equilibrium. The track impressively represents the quintessence of their upcoming album - the unmistakable, honest message is to stand up for yourself and fight all demons, no matter what your life throws at you.

Crematory remain themselves and draw in new listeners with their renowned brutality and expressive strength. Robse’s forceful and raspy growls mixed with Felix Stass' remarkable voice underline this proper blackness in an industrial guise. The standout track proves that Crematory is still at the top of the scene and highlights the bold message: Unbroken - we still keep on fighting.

Crematory on the new single: ““Unbroken” is a tribute and a thanks to our loyal fans, who have been supporting and encouraging us for over 29 years. Playing in a band is like being in a relationship - there will always be ups and downs and you have to solve all that to become stronger than ever!”

With Unbroken, the German pioneers of gothic metal present 15 energetic tracks boasting brutal riffs, deep growls and tight drum grooves - proving their diversity even after almost 30 years in the business. In addition to the concise influences of Neue Deutsche Härte, Unbroken appears as a bravura-piece in an industrial guise.

LAMB OF GOD Releases Music Video For New Single 'Checkmate'

Richmond, Virginia-based metallers LAMB OF GOD have released a brand new single and video, "Checkmate". The song is taken from the band's new, self-titled album, which will be released on May 8 via Epic Records in the U.S. and Nuclear Blast Records in Europe. The follow-up to "VII: Sturm Und Drang" will mark LAMB OF GOD's first recordings with Art Cruz, who joined the band last July as the replacement for the group's founding drummer, Chris Adler.

"'Checkmate' brings together all the components of the LAMB OF GOD sound that we've been developing over the last two decades, but with the ambition and ferocity that comes with the start of a new chapter for our band," says guitarist Mark Morton. "Re-energized and reignited, this is LAMB OF GOD 2020. We've never been more excited."

The fact that the band's eighth studio effort would warrant "self-titled" status is a testament to the band's pride and satisfaction with these songs and this period in their creativity.

"Putting only our name on it is a statement," singer Randy Blythe says. "This is LAMB OF GOD. Here and now."

A true collaboration between all members of the band, LAMB OF GOD's eighth studio album is an amalgam of each individual's contributions, blended to create a singular style. Guitarists Mark Morton and Willie Adler fuel the album with a mountain of riffs, taking what LAMB OF GOD are known for, and unbelievably, upping the ante to new levels. The rhythm section of John Campbell, looming large as a rhythmic shadow, and drummer Art Cruz, who makes his studio debut with LAMB OF GOD here on this record, underpin the proceedings with passion, sweat and expansive dynamics. Vocalist D. Randall Blythe is as angry, insightful, and informed as ever. Never one to shrink from facing the darker aspects of our nature head-on, Blythe delivers with no punches pulled, and as only he and LAMB OF GOD can in 2020.

In celebration of the release of "Checkmate" and the announcement of the new album, LAMB OF GOD will appear at a special show at the House of Vans in Chicago on February 14. The event is free and fans can RSVP beginning at 12 noon CST today at HouseOfVans.com. The event will include a photography exhibit featuring photos from D. Randall Blythe that will be included in the new LAMB OF GOD album artwork. HARM'S WAY will open the show.

In the midst of writing the ten songs that appear on "Lamb Of God", the group hit pause on the works-in-progress to man the stage as main support SLAYER's "The Final Campaign". After months of playing their best-known songs nightly, LAMB OF GOD returned to the new tracks and began to work with longtime producer Josh Wilbur (KORN, MEGADETH, GOJIRA, TRIVIUM). Special guests Jamey Jasta (HATEBREED) and Chuck Billy (TESTAMENT) also make appearances on "Lamb Of God".

"Lamb Of God" track listing:

01. Memento Mori

02. Checkmate

BILLY SHEEHAN Says He Was Asked Three Times To Join VAN HALEN

In a brand new interview with The Metal Voice, Billy Sheehan once again recalled being asked to join VAN HALEN on at least a couple of different occasions. The bassist, whose early band TALAS opened for VAN HALEN in 1981, said that he was approached about replacing Michael Anthony in VAN HALEN no less than "three times through the years. And I considered it a great, great honor," he said. "However, I'm torn, because I love Michael Anthony, and I think he's the best bass player for VAN HALEN. And as much as I would have loved to do that, I wanna see Michael in the band. And I'm not even sure why they asked me in the band, 'cause I think Michael is an awesome player and a great singer. Who knows what the situation was? But it was just a great honor to be associated with them in any capacity."

Asked during which era of VAN HALEN he was approached about joining the group, Sheehan said: "It was the tour after the 'Women And Children First' tour. I think it was 'Fair Warning'. We talked about it then. And then I spoke with [singer] Dave [Lee Roth] about it also. I mostly spoke with [guitarist] Eddie [Van Halen], and I [talked to] Dave about it too, I remember, in Toronto, Canada. I came up to see them play from Buffalo. And then, at the end, [on the] '1984' [tour], I remember Ed took me onstage to show me the stage setup, and we talked about it then. … The last time that it went down, I went up to Eddie's studio when I lived in L.A. a few years back, and jammed with him and [drummer] Alex [Van Halen] for a while. And we thought about doing something then. But it didn't happen."

He added: "It was just an honor to even know those people. I love them all. I love Michael, Ed, Dave, Alex, Wolfie [Wolfgang Van Halen], Sammy [Hagar]."

According to Sheehan, he is "the only guy [who has] ever played with every member of VAN HALEN" over the years. He explained: "I played with Dave. I did a show with Michael Anthony for a NAMM Show jam. I jammed with Eddie and Al at their house. I played with Sammy Hagar. I did a WHO tribute tour with Gary Cherone. And I never played with Wolfie — played music with him — but we did… Myself, Ed, Steve Lukather and Pat Torpey did a benefit show for Jason Becker in Chicago one year, and Ed was kind enough to offer me to fly home with him. And he was with his son. And Ed wanted to sleep. So I played — he was a little tiny kid, Wolfgang — and we played some number games and letter games and drew pictures. So, technically, I played with him, but not music. But I love that band. I love all those guys."

Sheehan played on Roth's first two solo albums, "Eat 'Em And Smile" (1986) and "Skyscraper" (1988), before leaving the band.

Anthony, Hagar, Alex and Eddie Van Halen last teamed up in 2004 for a U.S. summer tour. In exchange for taking part in the tour, Anthony reportedly had to agree to take a pay cut and sign away his rights to the band name and logo.

In 2007, the Van Halen brothers, Wolfgang Van Halen and Roth announced they would be hitting the road for a reunion tour. Anthony later told Music Radar that he "found out about that tour like everybody else did — in the press."

STEVE HARRIS On BRITISH LION: 'We Go Out And Give 110 Percent Just Like We Do In IRON MAIDEN'

IRON MAIDEN bassist Steve Harris recently discussed his side project BRITISH LION — whose second album, "The Burning", is now available — with Paulie Walnuts of HardDrive Radio. The full conversation can be seen below. A few excerpts follow (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On the seven-year gap between BRITISH LION albums:

Steve: "It's just ridiculous. I can't believe where the time goes. It's crazy. We had done quite a bit of touring with BRITISH LION — last year, we did Canada, South America and Japan for the first time — so we've done a fair bit of gigs, but to be seven years between albums is just mad. [It's nice to] finally get it out, though."

On the band's writing process:

Steve: "We get together every now and again, bits and pieces. That's how we record as well. We did a tour and then went straight in and recorded a bit of the album, then did another tour and went and recorded a bit more and so on. I wanted to record this album in a studio, live, properly. The first album kind of wasn't like that so much. I really wanted to do the process the way I'm used to doing it. I'd love to just go in and do an album [for] two or three months like we do in MAIDEN, but there just ain't time."

On whether he approaches BRITISH LION differently than IRON MAIDEN:

Steve: "Not really. The same sort of principles apply, I think, to the recording, and just the way you approach it. [You] try and capture that live endeavor, which is very difficult. All the years, we've been trying to do that with MAIDEN, and now BRITISH LION as well. It's not the easiest thing in the world to capture that essence, but I think we've captured it as best we can."

On performing live with BRITISH LION:

Steve: "You've just got to get people in and prove what you can do. Some people are going to love it, and some people maybe [won't], but most people seem to have really enjoyed it. We go out and give 110 percent just like we do in MAIDEN. It's been a lot of fun. I think people who come to see the gig go home with a smile on their face, and if they haven't, well, there's not much you can do about that."

On the importance of eye-catching album artwork in a digital age:

Steve: "I think it's massively important — more important than people even realize. I've always thought it's so ultra-important — so much so that I'm not going to mention any names, but there's bands that I absolutely love that I want to wear the t-shirts of, but I can't wear them because the artwork's so bad. You wouldn't wash your car with it, it's that bad. I want to support that band — I want to wear them — but I can't, because their [art] is just so poor."

On playing the Monsters Of Rock cruise in 2018:

Steve: "I really enjoyed it. I didn't know what to expect, because I'd never been on a cruise before of any kind... I really loved it. They asked us straight away, 'Can you come back the following year?' I said, 'I can't — I'm on tour, but we can do it the following year after that,' so off we go."

On whether it's "refreshing" to tour on a smaller scale with BRITISH LION:

Steve: "I like playing small gigs as well as the big ones. Of course, you've got less gear, less budget and everything. I do most of the bookings and stuff myself, because I'm used to doing that sort of thing. I know where I need to stay... It is what it is. You just have to get on with it, but I enjoy that side of it... Coming in to a place for the first time, you've got to put your toes in the water and see what happens. That's the scary thing, because you don't really know when you go to a country for the first time — you've got no idea as to whether people are actually going to turn up or not... You can't take anything for granted. Even with MAIDEN, we don't — we still go out and do interviews."

On BRITISH LION's future plans:

Steve: "I would like to release a live album, because I think the songs have evolved live into a little bit of a different thing now. It'd be nice to capture that essence."

BRITISH LION kicked off its first U.S. tour on January 18 at Ace Café in Orlando, Florida. The trek will hit a number of cities, including San Antonio, Dallas, Memphis, Atlanta and Fort Lauderdale, before concluding on February 20 in New York.

TESTAMENT's ALEX SKOLNICK Defends MITT ROMNEY Over Vote To Convict DONALD TRUMP On Abuse Of Power

TESTAMENT guitarist Alex Skolnick has defended Mitt Romney after the Utah senator announced Wednesday he would vote to convict President Donald Trump in the impeachment trial. Romney will be the first senator in U.S. history to vote to remove a president of the same party from office.

The president faces two charges: abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Romney said he will vote to convict on the first article of impeachment and acquit on the second.

After conservative activist Charlie Kirk tweeted earlier today that Romney "should be ashamed" and urged "the people of Utah" to "RECALL Mitt Romney NOW," Skolnick responded: "Tempted to act like some of you & say something like 'CONSERVATIVE TEARS!!' or 'UNHINGED RIGHT!!' But no, y'all can keep that behavior. Instead think about this: @SenatorRomney & @justinamash have longtime conservative cred. They're now blacklisted, purely for #HeWhoCanDoNoWrong"

Rep. Justin Amash, a longtime Republican who switched to independent last year, voted for impeachment.

In a speech on the Senate floor, Romney explained how his Mormon faith influenced his decision, saying: "As a senator juror, I swore an oath before God to exercise impartial justice. I am profoundly religious. My faith is at the heart of who I am. I take an oath before God as enormously consequential. I knew from the outset that being tasked with judging the president, the leader of my own party, would be the most difficult decision I've ever faced. I was not wrong."

Romney went on to say that he believes Trump abused the power of his office when he asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate allegations regarding the son of former Vice President Joe Biden, a potential political rival for his reelection. He added that while he would vote to acquit on the charge of obstruction of Congress, Trump's actions towards Ukraine violated his oath of office, were "grievously wrong," and demanded removal. "There's no doubt in my mind that were there names not Biden, the President would never have done what he did," Romney said.

Skolnick has made no secret of his political views, frequently tweeting against Trump's policies, including imporing the U.S. president to "get the HELL out of OUR country" in August 2017 after Trump tweeted about his proposed border wall while Tropical Storm Harvey made landfall in Texas.

Back in 2012, Skolnick tweeted that Ted Nugent, Donald Trump and Dave Mustaine didn't "seem that reasonable" to him because of their "militant" support of then-Republican presidential candidate Romney.

TESTAMENT's new album, "Titans Of Creation", will be released on April 3 via Nuclear Blast.

RALF SCHEEPERS Says Next PRIMAL FEAR Studio Album Will 'Top' 2018's 'Apocalypse'

Tony Webster of "The Metal Command" radio show recently conducted an interview with frontman Ralf Scheepers of veteran German power metallers PRIMAL FEAR. You can listen to the entire chat via the SoundCloud widget below. A few excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On the progress of their forthcoming new studio album, which is due sometime in 2020 via Nuclear Blast:

Ralf: "We're still recording. I have still two more songs to sing, actually. Mat [Sinner, bass] is also recording some bass still and we're mixing at the beginning of February with Jacob Hansen. Everybody is really looking forward to the final results. We're really happy with the final results. Most people say it's hard to top 'Apocalypse', but I say it will be topped. [Laughs]"

On PRIMAL FEAR's upcoming North American tour with SYMPHONY X and FIREWIND:

Ralf: "I don't know yet, but I know that it will be a good time. We know the musicians for many, many years. We never toured together, but in my opinion, it's a very good package for the fans. You have to do these kinds of things nowadays. There's so much competition. There always was, but now there is way too much to offer out there, and you have to do something to please the fans and have a good package together to get the people into the venues. Hopefully, this is going to happen. The pre-sales, maybe they're starting already. I don't know. Some people may have the tickets already and that's really good, it's a good thing. You're right. There are some really awesome bands, FIREWIND, and of course, we're all looking forward to doing that again, to come to America again."

On keeping his voice in shape:

Ralf: "I didn't do so much different than I always did. Maybe because I'm teaching, I'm doing my own exercises. [Laughs] I exactly do what I recommend to all my students and that really helps in terms of maintenance of the vocals. I can feel and hear the change of my own [voice], but people don't because it's very, very sensitive when it comes to hearing what's the difference in your voice. People hear that there's a difference since the GAMMA RAY times to now, but I also feel it's a good thing what happened because it's getting a more rough and crispy and raspy [sound]. That's a good thing in heavy metal. [Laughs]"

On the musical approach of PRIMAL FEAR's next studio album:

Ralf: "We're still on the track, the same level we had on 'Delivering The Black' and 'Apocalypse'. That's also a sign that we are all satisfied with how the last albums turned out in terms of sound and also songs. Basically, this red line is going to be continued."

On why PRIMAL FEAR's sound has remained so "consistent" since its 1998 self-titled debut:

Ralf: "The consistency is somehow sticking together and going through the thick and thin. That's basically what every band who is successful has to go through. There's up and downs, like [in] marriages. Whether you know what you want together or whether you don't, and you want to stick together — there's so many egos everywhere. I wouldn't say… every musician has to [have] some kind of ego, otherwise, he couldn't be a musician. That's a fact. But if you got five egos together, those egos have to work. Sometimes they do better and sometimes they don't, but basically, if you remind yourself why you're doing this, then you'll always come back to the same point that if you stick together with the guys, you'll have a strong team going on here. A team also means that you all also have to decide against somebody else's decision. After some years, when the years pass by, you find out these decisions were always good. If somebody's not agreeing to these decisions anymore, then we won't force anybody to stay with us. That's exactly what happened. We try to have no bad blood with any ex-member or whatever, but some people tend to talk and you can't change it."

On his relationship with co-founding member Sinner:

Ralf: "First of all, we get along personally really well. Then there's the responsibility that you have and this is what we really take very seriously, you have a responsibility somehow toward your fans. They've shown their face when they buy the album and they come to the concerts. Sometimes you have to somehow strip down your personal issues sometimes and think about what these fans out there want from you, and that's consistency and that's the band PRIMAL FEAR when they come to the shows. That's really the responsibility Mat and I have that on one term, this is a business, and on the other, it's fun. We've combined what we started out of fun when we still had jobs. Then, we combined with what we had later when we did this as a business. It's another story if you're doing this as a businessman, then as a hobby-man, but we were lucky enough to keep it going, still having the fun and also having the bad things of the business side."

On PRIMAL FEAR's recording process with Sinner serving as producer:

Ralf: "We know we can rely on each other. I don't know how Mat is working with other bands. I think it's easy for him with PRIMAL FEAR because we exactly know what we want. There's not so much discussion going on how things should be changed here or there. If you have 14 songs, maybe there are about two or three tracks that we talk over at the end where we have to change things, but basically, when we exchange demos and ideas and stuff, we exactly know which path to go. That's a good thing because we're somehow grown together for more than 20 years now and you can really hear that. I don't know how he's working with other bands, but PRIMAL FEAR, you can really say in the end we're all taking part in producing, but somebody has to have the final decision in the end and that's always Mat. That's a good thing because he exactly knows what, in the end, is the best for PRIMAL FEAR."

PRIMAL FEAR's latest album, "Apocalypse", was released in August 2018 via Frontiers Music Srl.

In September 2018, PRIMAL FEAR announced its return to Nuclear Blast Records.

LYNYRD SKYNYRD 'Street Survivors' Film To Be Released In June

Cleopatra Entertainment's feature film "Street Survivors: The True Story Of The Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash" has been officially selected for inclusion in the upcoming Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival taking place at the Staples Center/LA Live in Los Angeles from February 12 through February 27. The film will premier there on Sunday, February 16 at 7:30 p.m. and will also have a nationwide theatrical release starting this spring.

"Street Survivors: The True Story Of The Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash" was scripted and directed by Jared Cohn ("Devil's Revenge", "Devil's Domain"), produced by Brian Perera and co-produced by Tim Yasui for Cleopatra Entertainment. The biopic recreates the story about the ill-fated flight through the eyes of former LYNYRD SKYNYRD drummer Artimus Pyle (who narrates the film), who not only survived the plane crash that claimed the life of the band's founder and frontman Ronnie Van Zant amongst others, but who also physically pulled the remaining survivors out of the plane wreckage before staggering towards the nearest farmhouse in rural Louisiana to seek help. Pyle also contributes original music to the film's soundtrack.

Says Pyle: "This film's story — MY story — is not just about the plane crash but also about my personal relationship with the genius that was Ronnie Van Zant — whom I loved like a brother and still miss to this day."

Cleopatra Entertainment's plans for the roll-out include an international festival run followed by a domestic theatrical run, including personal appearances by Artimus Pyle, who will introduce the film an participate in question-and-answer sessions with the audience. In select markets Pyle will perform a live music concert with the ARTIMUS PYLE BAND that will feature the hit songs by LYNYRD SKYNYRD. A worldwide VOD and Home Entertainment release which will include a stand-alone official soundtrack album are scheduled for June 30.

STONE SOUR Releases Demo Version Of 'Tumult' Song

STONE SOUR has released a demo version of the song "Tumult". The original track appeared on the band's self-titled debut album, which came out in 2002.

In a statement accompanying the YouTube release of the "Tumult" demo, STONE SOUR guitarist Josh Rand wrote: "When Corey [Taylor, vocals] and I finished up recording the Project X demos, we knew that we had to put a band together to be able to play out. First, we asked Danny Spain (who tracked drums on the Project X demo) to join, but was formerly in the band DOWN THE SUN, so he was out. I suggested Joel [Ekman] to Corey because the two of us had jammed around a little the year prior. Corey made the call and Joel was back behind the drum kit once again. One day Shawn [Economaki, bass] stopped by Corey's place and listened to the Project X demos and said 'It's pretty cool.. I guess I'll play bass.' The 2nd guitar player spot was offered to Josh Brainard, the original SLIPKNOT guitarist that James [Root] replaced. He turned down the offer to focus on his own new project. So the four of us started rehearsing for the first show. About a week out from the show, James told Shawn he wanted to play with us and he joined the band. We knew we needed a great closing song for the live set, so we went back to the STONE SOUR vault and grabbed 'Tumult'. This is the original recording from 1996."

Rand recently said that he has "no idea" when STONE SOUR will release a new studio album. Asked in an interview with Guitar World if the band has started working yet on a follow-up to 2017's "Hydrograd", Rand replied: "To be honest, the band is on hiatus right now with no timetable on a return. It's a mixture of needing a break, plus Corey wants to do a solo album, so I don't know when there will be new STONE SOUR music."

Rand hinted that the band will release something next summer which he can't talk about yet, but also told The Pulse Of Radio he's working on another project to keep fans happy during the hiatus. "I archive like everything that we've done, so starting at the top of [2020], every week I'm going to release a demo or an alternate version of a song, starting from the very beginning. And then throughout the entire year will get us up to 'Hydrograd'. So I'm pretty excited about that."

STONE SOUR has been off the road and out of sight since completing the touring cycle for its 2017 LP "Hydrograd". Taylor has been working with SLIPKNOT since then, recording and currently touring behind that group's sixth effort, "We Are Not Your Kind". Rand is currently promoting STONE SOUR's new live album, "Hello, You Bastards: Live In Reno", which came out on December 13.

Taylor also recently told WhatCulture that he has already written 26 songs for his long-in-the-works solo album, which he has hinted at recording over the years.

Former TESLA Guitarist TOMMY SKEOCH Launches RESIST & BITE

Former TESLA guitarist Tommy Skeoch has launched a new project called RESIST & BITE. Joining him in the group are ex-LYNCH MOB lead vocalist Nathan Utz, guitarist Steve Stokes, drummer David Parks and bassist Brian Powell.

Skeoch stated: "[I'm] very excited about this band. Been working with the band now about a [year]. And our amazing singer Nathan Utz has been [with] us the last five months and we got almost 17 songs already. Fucking rock'n shit, man!!! Working a label as we speak & gonna start doin' shows this summer. Fully pumped!!!"

Skeoch left TESLA in 2006 to spend time with his family and to receive treatment for substance-abuse issues. He has since been replaced by Dave Rude.

In a 2011 interview with Noisecreep, TESLA singer Jeff Keith stated about Skeoch: "Look, everyone in TESLA has been through their own substance-abuse issues. But Tommy got in too deep again. So the band told him that the only way we would be able to make this work is if he was clean and sober. I felt like we couldn't ask him to do that if we weren't going to commit to it too. So I was the first one to say that I wouldn't drink, or do anything else, on the tour. The next thing you know, the other guys did the same thing. Troy [Luccketta, drums] has been clean and sober for over 20 years, so it wasn't even an issue for him... Tommy couldn't stay off the stuff he was doing. It broke my heart to see it, but we knew we had to replace him."

Last year, Skeoch announced the formation of a new project called SKIN SUIT. That band, which also features vocalist Rob McManus, was scheduled to release its debut album this past December.

MACHINE HEAD To Release New Standalone Single In February

Robb Flynn has confirmed to "Robb's MetalWorks" that MACHINE HEAD will release another new standalone song in February. The track will follow "Do Or Die", which came out last October and was described by some fans and media outlets as a "diss" track aimed at MACHINE HEAD's detractors, in particular those who have been critical of the band's last album, 2018's "Catharsis".

Speaking about MACHINE HEAD's plans to put out new music, Flynn said (see video below): "I'm always writing. I just kind of am writing. I think what the plan, going forward, is we're gonna write and then record. Rather than focus on an album every three years, which is kind of the pattern we've gotten into — about every three to four years, we drop a record — to just have a steady stream of standalone singles. And then some of those singles may end up on the next record, along with probably five or six other new songs, or they may not — we're still trying to figure it out.

"I love how the music industry has changed," he continued. "I love the power of the digital stuff and the ease of getting it out there to the fans. And I think we're just gonna keep doing that, man. I love the idea of dropping a new song every three or four months, rather than an album every three or four years. So we're gonna keep on doing that, and I'm excited about it."

According to Flynn, the fan response to "Do Or Die" was "great." He said: "It's already at over a million streams on Spotify. We dropped it out of nowhere — no announcement; no anything. Just, like, 'Here you go.' And this isn't fucking getting played on the radio or anything. So it was really cool, man. And I'm excited to be able to do more of that. And the fans seem to be excited about that too."

Last fall, MACHINE HEAD completed the first European leg of its 25th-anniversary tour for the band's classic debut, "Burn My Eyes". Each show on the trek consisted of two parts: part one saw Flynn and bassist Jared MacEachern performing alongside new recruits, Polish guitarist Wacław "Vogg" Kiełtyka (DECAPITATED) and British drummer Matt Alston (DEVILMENT, EASTERN FRONT); while part two featured "Burn My Eyes" played in its entirety for the first time ever, with original drummer Chris Kontos and guitarist Logan Mader joining in.

Flynn said that he has worked with both Mader and Kontos on some new MACHINE HEAD music. "Logan and I have already collaborated on a new song," he revealed. "I think that's another thing that's killer about it. Rather than the pressure of a record, to be able to do these standalone things and just see how it goes.

"I don't know where the fuck it's gonna go," he continued. "Nobody can look into the crystal ball. I just wanna keep on writing music and dropping music. Music's been such a powerful force in my life. And if these guys wanna write music, let's do it. Let's see what comes of it and see where it goes. And get lost — get lost in the music."

Asked about the musical direction of the new MACHINE HEAD material, Flynn said: "It's gonna be MACHINE HEAD. It's always gonna have that heaviness, it's always gonna have that vibe. It's gonna go everywhere. Some songs could be like 'Darkness Within'; some songs could be like fucking 'Aesthetics Of Hate'. It's everywhere in between."

Flynn also talked about MACHINE HEAD's fall 2018 tour, which saw him and MacEachern performing alongside guitarist Phil Demmel and drummer Dave McClain for the final time. The trek kicked off just a week after Demmel and McClain announced they were leaving the band.

Asked if saw Demmel and McClain's departures "coming" a long time before they made their exit official, Flynn said: "Oh, yeah. [Laughs] For sure. For a while. Those guys wanted to move on. And we still had a tour to do. So we went out and did the tour. We already knew at that point, before the tour. I felt like we ended it on a super-classy note. I got the crowd to chant their name and thank 'em every single night for everything that they've done. It was a cool era, and then there was gonna be a future. And here we are."

Questioned about whether he was sad or excited to play that one final tour with his longtime bandmates, Flynn said: "I had my eye on the future — whatever that meant. [Laughs] I didn't know what that meant. But it was an awesome tour, man. People went fucking nuts. The attendances were great. People were losing their shit. To me, it was a celebration, and that's what I always say it was — it was a celebration of what we did and the music that we created, and to just come out and have a fucking blast and live this moment with us one more time, for what it was. I was pretty sad, especially when everybody announced it. I'm sure you saw the Facebook Live — I was crying; I was sad. It was a tough time. But by the time I got on stage, I never wanna cry on stage. [Laughs] I was just, like, 'As long as I get through this first show in Sacramento, I'm good.' And I didn't cry there, so I was, like, 'I'm not gonna cry.' And even the last night, I didn't cry. It was still, to me, a celebration, and that's what it was always gonna be about."

Kontos left MACHINE HEAD before the release of the band's second album, 1997's "The More Things Change", and was replaced by McClain.

Mader contributed to two MACHINE HEAD albums, the aforementioned "Burn My Eyes" and "The More Things Change", before exiting the group and being replaced by Ahrue Luster and, later on, Demmel.

The North American leg of the "Burn My Eyes" 25th-anniversary tour kicked off in Phoenix on January 16 and will continue across New York, Toronto, Chicago and Denver, wrapping up at the legendary Fox Theater in Oakland, California on February 21 and House Of Blues in Anaheim, California on February 22.

MARK JANSEN Says EPICA's Next Studio Album Will Be Released This Summer

Allie Jorgensen of L.A. Metal Media conducted an interview with guitarist Mark Jansen of Dutch symphonic metallers EPICA prior to their January 5 concert at Regent Theater in Los Angeles, California. You can watch the entire chat below. A few excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On the evolution of EPICA:

Mark: "It's been all right. Ten years ago, we were just starting to make a living from the music. Now, ten years later, we are still around and we still make a living from it. Yeah, one of the lucky few. We're very thankful to all the fans. Without them, we wouldn't be able to do this."

On EPICA's continued success:

Mark: "The thing is to always put some new goals. When there's new challenges, new goals, when everybody is excited about these challenges, then you go again. For example, I always feel that everybody is so into making a new album. If I would feel it's not like that anymore, then it would be maybe it's better to stop. But I feel this hunger from everybody to make the best possible album. Now we are working on a new album, so I feel it again. As long as that feeling is there, then there's a future for EPICA."

On changes in the music industry over the last decade:

Mark: "The most significant change is, for sure, the downloading. That changed the whole thing. But unlike many musicians, I'm not negative about it. I always joke, actually, about it. I say, 'If there was no downloading, we'd be millionaires.' But I don't need a million euros. I'm happy with what I have. What it changed, I think, a lot of things changed for the better. Music is now more easily accessible and record companies have less influence on bands. Yeah, we are anyway lucky with Nuclear Blast, because they give us a huge amount of freedom and that's also what we need. The first company always tried to influence us in a way. For us, that didn't feel comfortable. But there were many record companies like that, but they got fewer and fewer, and bands release their own music. I think it's really good. The bands have more power over their own music."

On the songwriting process for the follow-up to their 2016 "The Holographic Principle" studio album:

Mark: "That's in a very nice stage now, because we wrote all the songs. We finished also the vocal lines. Now, at this point, I'm working together with Simone [Simons, vocals] on the lyrics. We made a final selection of the songs to be on the album. That was an exciting moment. It was also a painful moment, because some songs didn't make it and the writer of the song is a bit disappointed. [Laughs] It is hard, because you think when you write a song, for example, it's the best song in the world. Then for the guys that wrote a song that didn't make it, it's always a bit of a painful moment. It's for the best of the album. We do voting. Then the songs that get the most votes usually make it to the album. So, I think we have now a selection of 12 best-possible songs. I'm really happy about it. Everybody always thinks they have the best album coming up. For us, it's no different. [Laughs] But let's see how the fans are going to receive it. I think it's more into the direction of 'The Quantum Enigma' again."

On when he expects the new EPICA studio album to be released:

Mark: "We're going to record it from February until May, then at the end of the summer, it's going to be released. This year, yes."

Last fall, EPICA celebrated the 10th anniversary of its milestone album "Design Your Universe". To mark this special occasion, EPICA re-released this fan-favorite LP as a "gold edition" on October 4 through Nuclear Blast. This edition contains the album remixed and remastered by Joost Van Den Broek with updated artwork and a second disc containing newly recorded acoustic versions of "Design Your Universe" songs.

November 2019 saw the release of "The Essence Of Epica", a lavishly designed and fully illustrated, high-quality hardback which tells the story of EPICA in bandmembers' own words. The book is available in two distinct editions: the Classic is a 208-page, hardback with foil detailing, filled with over 200 images; the Signature hardback is signed by the band and comes in a deluxe clamshell box with three exclusive, original art prints created by Stefan Heilemann.

Art's been playing drums with us now for a couple of years, but these are our first songs that we've written and recorded with him there. And it's just a thrill to see these things come to life. When Adler's absence from LAMB OF GOD's summer 2018 tour was first announced, he released a statement saying that he had been undergoing physical and occupational therapy for injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident in late 2017.

Cruz made his live debut with LAMB OF GOD in July 2018 in Gilford, New Hampshire.

SILVERSTEIN Releases Music Video For 'Bad Habits'

This year SILVERSTEIN is celebrating its 20th anniversary, a rare milestone for any band but even more impressive for one that's been as consistently active, influential, and crowd-pleasing as the Ontario-based post-hardcore legends. The band is celebrating all year long with a packed touring schedule and the release of its ninth studio album, "A Beautiful Place To Drown", due out March 6 from UNFD. It's an album that fittingly encapsulates the best of SILVERSTEIN while pushing their sound into daring new territory.

Today the band is sharing the record's blistering opener "Bad Habits" which highlights SILVERSTEIN's signature blend of aggression and melody along with a mind-melting guitar solo from INTERVALS' Aaron Marshall.

Vocalist Shane Told said: "When we finished putting together 'Bad Habits', I knew it was going to be a fan favorite. This song is action packed and just plain fun. It's a rush of adrenaline and then Aaron from INTERVALS comes in shredding and just puts it over the top."

Added SILVERSTEIN guitarist Paul Marc Rousseau: "This record largely deals with the feeling of defeat that can come from trying to overcome your demons, but 'Bad Habits' turns that upside down. It's resigned rather than aspirational. 'Bad Habits' is a banger that takes place in that sliver of daylight between recognition and regret. After action, but before reaction. For these three minutes, we're embracing the devil on our collective shoulder."

Marshall's contribution to "Bad Habits" is one of many guest features on "A Beautiful Place To Drown". SILVERSTEIN may be proud torchbearers of the emo and post-hardcore scenes but appearances from artists as varied as UNDEROATH's Aaron Gillespie, BEARTOOTH's Caleb Shomo, SIMPLE PLAN's Pierre Bouvier, and perhaps most surprisingly, hip-hop fireband Princess Nokia, are indicative of the band's wide-reaching impact and their ability to reach listeners in all worlds of music. "A Beautiful Place To Drown" captures this appeal in its dynamic range of sounds and styles, all made cohesive by the performances of vocalist Shane Told, guitarists Paul Marc Rousseau and Josh Bradford, bassist Billy Hamilton, and drummer Paul Koehler. SILVERSTEIN pushed themselves lyrically as well, exploring the mental duress that seems to be inextricable from the personal and societal challenges of modern life, often focusing on external perspectives and even political elements without losing the band's trademark intimacy. "A Beautiful Place To Drown" is sure to please old fans and new ones alike, proving exactly why SILVERSTEIN remain a vital and powerful voice in punk rock and beyond.

"A Beautiful Place To Drown" track listing:

01. Bad Habits (feat. Intervals)

02. Burn It Down (feat. Caleb Shomo)

03. Where Are You

04. Infinity (feat. Aaron Gillespie)

05. Shape Shift

06. All On Me

07. Madness (feat. Princess Nokia)

08. Say Yes

09. Stop

10. September 14th

11. Coming Down

12. Take What You Give (feat. Pierre Bouvier)

SILVERSTEIN will tour heavily throughout 2020 with extensive dates in the Europe, North America and more. Honoring its entire catalog in the live setting, the band will perform three sets at each show: their seminal 2005 full-length, "Discovering The Waterfront", in full, a stripped-down acoustic section, and a careering-spanning batch of fan favorites.

EVIL INVADERS Premier Live Video For VENOM Cover "Witching Hour" From Upcoming Surge Of Insanity - Live In Antwerp 2018 Release

Evil Invaders may sound notoriously tech-loving yet astoundingly raw on record - but if you unleash these Belgians onstage, their trademark sound nestled in between death, thrash, progressive touches and trad heavy metal gains another heady and exciting dimension that is second to none.

After two studio albums and two EPs released to date, the time has finally come to immortalize the incredible high-octane live phenomenon in sound and vision: Surge Of Insanity - Live In Antwerp 2018 is the expected balls-out hometown insanity, taped at the Trix Zaal in 2018, and set for release on October 4 via Napalm Records. Check out a video for the Venom cover, "Witching Hour", below.

Says the band: "Venom is a metal icon and 'Witching Hour' is a true metal classic, to which we gave our own touch. This is Evil Invaders meets Venom and the extra special element is that our lead guitarist Max is doing vocals on this one, giving the song a new dimension for the fans. The adrenaline we feel on stage when playing this cover track is beyond insane. Despite the blades, the smoke and all the sparks, we think everyone made it out alive."

“On October 4th we will finally release our live album + DVD, Surge Of Insanity: Live In Antwerp 2018! From day one, our goal has always been to distinguish ourselves musically as well as visually in our live performances,” frontman Joe commented just recently. “We're always striving to create new and unique visual aspects to our show. It was massive to play with a full production at the venue where we all used to go to see our favorite bands since we were teenagers. This live album + DVD marks the end of an old and the beginning of a new era for Evil Invaders. We're just getting started...”

The first live album by Evil Invaders will be released on 6-page CD digipack and DVD, the 2LP Gatefold will also include the full DVD. Pre-order here.

LET US PREY Feat. ROSS THE BOSS Singer MARC LOPES Sign With M-Theory Audio; Debut Album Due This Summer

Boston-based dark melodic power thrash group, Let Us Prey, have signed with M-Theory Audio. The label will release the group's full-length debut, Virtues Of The Vicious, this summer.

A music video for the album's opening track, “Above The Vaulted Sky”, can be viewed below. The song can also now be streamed or downloaded via Bandcamp.

Led by vocalist Marc Lopes - best known as the frontman of Manowar co-founder Ross Friedman's group, Ross The Boss - and guitarist Jon Morency, Let Us Prey incorporates numerous subgenres of metal into their style while still sounding organic. The group's adventurous music sees elements of thrash, death, power and progressive metal meld seamlessly with industrial samples and symphonic keyboards. The drumming is surgically precise and blisteringly fast without sounding mechanical; the guitars mix crushing, down-tuned brutality with dense harmonies and ripping leads; and Lopes shifts effortlessly from thrash/death metal growls to soaring melodic vocals and searing Halford-esque highs with layered harmonies.

Virtues Of The Vicious - the follow-up to Let Us Prey's acclaimed 2016 EP, The Saint of Killers - was recorded by Pete Rutcho (Revocation, Havok, Bury Your Dead) and Nick Bellmore (Hatebreed, Toxic Holocaust, Five Finger Death Punch). More details about the album, including pre-order information, will be unveiled in the coming weeks.

Says M-Theory's Marco Barbieri, “I became aware of Let Us Prey a couple years ago after hearing a song premiered on a metal site. Immediately their sound - a darker and more modern mix of traditional and melodic heaviness - caught my attention, but upon hearing that voice I wanted to work with the guys in some capacity and began to chase vocalist Marc Lopes. Little did I know but at the time Marc recently accepted an invitation to front the Ross the Boss band, which has seen him preoccupied touring the world and releasing solid releases of metal with the legendary Manowar/Dictators guitarist. Well, friends we became and I saw an unbelievable work ethic and an undeniable good nature while he juggled plane trips, live performances, social media interaction, a cross-country relationship, his own outside shed-making business and countless guest vocal appearances at events like Dimebash, Heavy Metal Hall Of Fame Gala, Ultimate Jam Nights to name a few, but my persistence and his dream have finally connected and I’m proud to publicly announce our deal and the realization of this album early this summer.”

Adds Lopes, “Having the opportunity to work with someone like Marco - someone with such a prestigious track record, as well as someone who totally shares our vision - and his team at M-Theory was a no-brainer. I'm looking forward to injecting Let Us Prey into the current metal scene alongside so many classic and up-and-coming bands.”

Let Us Prey have previously performed in and around the northeastern United States alongside the likes of Soilwork, Suffocation, Soulfly, Life Of Agony, Metal Church, Battle Beast, Doro and Scar Symmetry, among others. The band will return to the stage this summer, after Lopes wraps up extensive North American and European tours with Ross The Boss.

METALLICA Release Professionally-Filmed Performance Video For "The Memory Remains", Live From Wichita, Kansas

Metallica performed "The Memory Remains" at INTRUST Bank Arena in Wichita, Kansas on March 4, 2019. Pro-shot footage can be seen below:

Metallica's next scheduled live performance is on March 28 for the All Within My Hands Helping Hands Concert & Auction at The Masonic in San Francisco, CA. Find the band's live itinerary here.

Metallica recently issued the following message in regards to the Metallica Scholars Initiative: "After an amazing first year with results including 95% job placement rates, we’re very proud to announce that All Within My Hands has just launched year two of the highly successful Metallica Scholars program, a major workforce education initiative. The grants provide direct support to community colleges offering skills and services to students who are looking to enter a traditional trade or other applied learning program.

"Year two of the Metallica Scholars Initiative will add five more community colleges, bringing the total number of schools to 15. It will also receive matching grants from new partners, supplementing All Within My Hands' cumulative $1.5 million contribution.

"Once again AWMH has partnered with the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), a Washington, D.C. based organization that represents the nation’s 1,103 community colleges. The awards are designed to provide support of relevant job skill training for community college students and reinvest in communities that supported us during our recent US tours.

"Our 2019 Metallica Scholars have exceeded all expectations and inspired us in more ways than we could have possibly imagined when this program was launched last year. You can read some of their stories on AWMH’s Scholar Spotlight page.

"Thanks to your continued support, we’re able to expand this program while we remain focused on the fight against hunger and aiding communities around the world who have suffered in natural disasters."

Visit AllWithinMyHands.org to learn more about the program and view a list of the colleges receiving grants.

RIVERSIDE Announce Lineup Change

Polish progressive rock masters Riverside have announced a lineup change within the band.

The band shares in a statement: “Riverside are a quartet again!

“Dear friends, this is an incredibly important moment in the history of our band. From the beginning of February 2020, Riverside are officially not a trio any more, we are a quartet! It is with incredible joy that we would like to announce that the fourth official member of the band is...

“Well, you can't have expected anyone else? :)

“He's been with us for over three years. He let us recover from the tragic loss we have all experienced, he helped us survive and become, from year to year, a better and better live band. He has been our friend and our brother. We are welcoming him in our midst with great joy, in which we hope you will also share!

“Ladies and gentlemen, on the guitars in Riverside: Maciej Meller!

“Being a good guitarist and loving music is one thing, but being able to fit in with your personality, incredible modesty and humility, that's an incredibly important thing in our band. Maciej meets all the criteria and we are truly happy that he wants to continue our journey with us.

“We still remember. And we still go back to the moment when, after we lost Piotr, in 2016, the massive amount of your support made us continue as Riverside. We were not ready to invite anyone to our family at that time. Wasteland had to be recorded as a trio. We simply had to cope with the loss on our own.

“Now, it's high time for Riverside to have a guitarist in the line-up again, not only during live shows but also in the studio, when working on new material. So we are really pleased to let you know that after coming back from the final, spring edition of the Wasteland Tour 2020, together with Maciek, in the new line-up, we will start working on the eighth album.

“The upcoming spring concerts will have a different character, a different tone, and Riverside will sound mightier than ever before. We would really like to see you there!

“Last but not least - Piotr Grudziński will always be in our hearts, we all still love him and we will never forget him. But we have to move on. We are on a journey, they are waiting for us. There is more to create in this life, more to see, more to know, more to save. We hope that you will decide to stay with us again and that you will let us help one another through all of this.

“We are here with you and for you.”

Riverside’s next touring run starts later this month and includes dates across Europe as well as an appearance at the Cruise To The Edge and shows in Latin America.

DISCHARGE Celebrate 40th Anniversary With Career Spanning Collection, Protest And Survive - The Anthology; Previously Unreleased Song Streaming

Celebrating 40 years since the release of their debut single, "Realities Of War", in 1980, British hardcore punk band Discharge are surviving pioneers of the subgenre they invented; D-beat. Having had a worldwide influence on both extreme metal and punk with their uncompromising, raw sound over the last 40 years, Discharge’s political message is now relevant more than ever. Still performing globally in clubs and at festivals, the quintet are heralded as one of the godfathers of the political and anarcho punk scenes. Heavily championed by John Peel in their early years, they clocked up several chart singles and albums and went on to influence metal bands like Metallica and Celtic Frost, as well as punk acts like Rancid.

Protest And Survive - The Anthology, out on February 21 via BMG on 2CD digipack (with 20-page booklet) and gatefold double splatter vinyl, celebrates the bands 40th anniversary with a 53-track career spanning vicious aural onslaught. Not for the weak of heart, the Stoke-On-Trent punk icons remain true to their ‘noise not music’ mantra and still detonate a sound akin to a bomb going off, to equal the heavy-weight lyrical themes of war, oppression and corruption. Pre-order here, and listen to the previously unreleased "Descending Into Madness" below.

The Discharge story actually started several years earlier than ‘Realities of War’ though, back in early 1977, when budding guitarist Roy ‘Rainy’ Wainwright started the band with vocalist Terry ‘Tezz’ Roberts Joined by bassist Nigel Bamford, drummer Tony ‘Acko’ Atkinson and Tezz’s brother, ‘Bones’ (Tony Roberts), the formative Discharge demos, whilst an enjoyable enough exorcism of teenage frustration and boredom, sound very little like the blistering powerhouse they eventually became, owing a huge sonic debt to the Sex Pistols, especially in Tezz’s interpretation of John Lydon’s trademark sneer.

"Realities Of War" was a huge hit upon release, especially once it was picked up for regular rotation by seminal DJ John Peel, and it spent 44 weeks in the then-important UK Independent Chart, where it peaked at a very respectable No. 5. The jagged aural attack of ‘Realities…’ was then honed to a razor-sharp edge for the second EP, Fight Back, that saw the band developing not only their sound but their social conscience, frontman Cal’s impassioned lyrics raging against authority, corrupt institutions and the injustices of war, the black-and-white imagery, the minimalist production values and the pacifist stance all crossing over with the anarcho punk scene that was growing in the wake of Crass.

It was the third Discharge EP, Decontrol, issued through Clay in late 1980, that saw them realize their full potential and become a genuine force to be reckoned with  (‘Decontrol’ reached No. 2 in the Indie Charts) and 1982’s Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing album, a work of devastating magnitude, is seen by many as the pinnacle of the bands aural bombardment.

What Discharge created - unleashed might be a better word - has truly reverberated internationally for four decades, with no signs of abatement. They are still as influential as ever - on all extreme music, not just punk - and such is the primal power they summon forth, once you hear them, you can’t unhear them. And you are never the same again. Protest And Survive - The Anthology marks their gloriously irreverent legacy and is crammed full of their most revered tracks, alongside a slew of rare and unreleased music. Finally, a collection that truly does this inspiring band justice.  And long may the nightmare continue.
