RICHIE KOTZEN Says 'It's Possible' THE WINERY DOGS Will Release New Music In 2021
In a brand new interview with Sonic Perspectives, guitarist/vocalist Richie Kotzen was asked about the status of THE WINERY DOGS, his power trio with drummer Mike Portnoy (DREAM THEATER, AVENGED SEVENFOLD) and legendary bassist Billy Sheehan (MR. BIG, TALAS, DAVID LEE ROTH). He said: "We did a North American tour last year and had a great time. While on tour, we talked about getting together periodically in 2020 at each other's homes and throw some ideas around, to see what we walk out of there with. Once we know we have some interesting ideas which are above and beyond the last two records, then we can talk timing and put something out. Assuming all of that comes together, it's possible that in 2021 we can see some new music coming from the band."
Kotzen also talked about the fact that THE WINERY DOGS' sophomore album, 2015's "Hot Streak", was voted guitar album of the decade and whether there is any pressure on him and his bandmates to outdo it on the next LP. "No, because I already did that CD and look what it did," he said. "You know what is really funny, and I hope it doesn't read the wrong way, the beauty of this stuff is that it happened and it exists. THE WINERY DOGS made the first CD, and people responded nicely. 'Hot Streak' exists, and people celebrated it with the award you mentioned. So it already happened, I'm not going to live in the past and try to recreate that. It would be insane. I'm moving on and forward. As it relates to my solo career, I have been making records since 1989; this is technically my 22nd solo record, but there are ten others with THE WINERY DOGS, WILSON HAWK, FORTY DEUCE, Greg Howe, and many others. I have made a lot of records and put a lot of music out. Having done this CD, '50 For 50', I don't need to run back into the studio any time to soon to worry about making music. If I have an idea for a song, and I'm sure I will, I'll record it and proudly share it with people. To answer your question, I don't feel any pressure to win any competitions on the guitar."
Last month, Portnoy told Sonic Perspectives that THE WINERY DOGS' 2019 tour was done "just for the fun of it — just for no other reason than to play together again, because it had been a few years. I think it reignited our love for each other, and I think it showed us that there's still so many fans out there that love this band," he explained. "It reignited our desire to make another record, so I think as soon as we can, we will."
Kotzen's 22nd solo album, "50 For 50" is now available via his own custom label, Headroom-Inc. The three-disc collection is just what the title implies: a collection of 50 previously unreleased compositions produced, performed and written by Kotzen in honor of his birthday. It's the follow-up to his critically acclaimed "Salting Earth" album, which was released April 14, 2017 via Headroom-Inc.
Portnoy and Sheehan will spend much of the first half of 2020 on the road with SONS OF APOLLO, whose world tour in support of "MMXX" kicked off January 23 in Sacramento, California. | +5

Ex-MEGADETH Bassist JAMES LOMENZO: NEIL PEART Changed 'People's Perception Of Drums'
Former MEGADETH, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY and WHITE LION bassist James LoMenzo has commented on the passing of Neil Peart, who died on January 7 in Santa Monica, California after a three-year battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. The iconic RUSH drummer was 67 years old.
During an appearance on the "Thunder Underground" podcast, LoMenzo said (hear audio below): "When [RUSH's eighth studio album, 1981's] 'Moving Pictures' came out, the word 'game-changer' is underused in context with that. Because that really changed what everybody kind of thought about what rock into metal drumming could be. That kind of precision, that kind of a space for each sound, and that kind of profusion, the strength that he played with, nobody had done that up until then. I would go as far to say as he probably modified people's perception of drums as much as maybe Eddie Van Halen did for guitar — in that record, especially. That's what I got out of it. And I remember being really excited. People cannot listen to 'Tom Sawyer' without air drumming — that ending part."
RUSH announced Peart's passing on January 10, setting off shockwaves and an outpouring of grief from fans and musicians all over the world.
RUSH's final show took place at the Forum in Los Angeles on August 1, 2015. Peart indicated at the time that he wanted to retire while he was still able to play well, along with a desire to spend more time at home with his young daughter.
Peart joined RUSH in 1974. He was considered one of the best rock drummers of all time, alongside John Bonham of LED ZEPPELIN; Keith Moon of THE WHO; and Ginger Baker of CREAM. Peart was also RUSH's primary lyricist, drawing inspiration from everything from sci-fi to Ayn Rand. | +1

CLUTCH Releases New Version Of 'Spacegrass' As Part Of 'Weathermaker Vault Series'
Maryland rockers CLUTCH have released reworked version of their song "Spacegrass". The track, along with CLUTCH's previously issued renditions of the Willie Dixon 1950s classic "Evil" (later recorded by CACTUS), ZZ TOP's "Precious And Grace" and CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL's "Fortunate Son", as well as a reworked version of "Electric Worry", comprise a collection of newly recorded songs, "Weathermaker Vault Series".
The original version of "Spacegrass" appeared on CLUTCH's second, self-titled album, which was released in May 1995 via East West Records, a now defunct sub-label of Warner Music Group.
CLUTCH drummer Jean-Paul Gaster told Cory Blose of TotalRock Radio's "The Valley" about "Weathermaker Vault Series": "We got into the studio [in early 2019]. After we finished another U.S. tour, we jumped in the studio and we recorded a selection of songs. I wouldn't go so far as to call it a full album. But the idea is just to release a few things. And these will be completely just digital releases as well. We're sort of experimenting with that format — just releasing stuff for streaming purposes. And we'll see how that goes."
He continued: "It was fun to get in the studio, and we picked some songs that sort of all meant something to us in different ways. We also re-recorded a few CLUTCH classic songs, so those will be coming out as well. I suppose maybe in some ways it's sort of just a way to tide us over until we really get the juices flowing to record another album."
Gaster said that CLUTCH's insistence on recording and releasing new music comes from a pure place.
"As we all know, there's not a tremendous amount of money to be made in releasing albums anymore, so you have to do it because you wanna do it," he said. "And also too, it just gives us an opportunity to play some new stuff when we get out there on the road and play shows. We do not wanna be a band that gets up there and just plays the hits and that would be the end of it. This is not a nostalgia thing for us. For us, this is still very much a live working rock band. We have the desire to be creative and to play music, so we try to foster that in whatever way we can."
He added: "I can say a scenario where we'll release this collection of singles and maybe a few more, and then eventually we might put these all on a vinyl record and put them out.
CLUTCH's latest album, "Book Of Bad Decisions", was released in September 2018. The record sold 26,000 copies in America during its first week of availability, giving the group its third consecutive Top 20 album on the Billboard 200.
"Book Of Bad Decisions" was recorded was completed at Sputnik Sound studio in Nashville, Tennessee with producer Vance Powell.

SLIPKNOT's TORTILLA MAN Unmasked In New Photo
Postojna Cave, the most extensive cave system in Slovenia, recently hosted three members of SLIPKNOT: percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan, drummer Jay Weinberg, and the band's latest recruit, the percussionist nicknamed "Tortilla Man." Several photos from their visit can be seen below.
Tortilla Man joined SLIPKNOT nine months ago, when he was first featured in the video for comeback single "Unsainted". Since then, there has been much speculation about his name, with some SLIPKNOT fans getting quite obsessed with trying to work out the real identity of the band's latest recruit.
The latest photos, which were posted to the Postojna Cave Facebook account, support the theory that SLIPKNOT's newest member is the multi-instrumentalist Michael Pfaff. Pfaff played keyboards with Crahan in the band DIRTY LITTLE RABBITS and is also a member of the Iowa-based duo THE SNACKS.
Included in the image gallery is a picture of the page in the Postojna Cave visitors' book signed by the three members of SLIPKNOT, with the middle signature appearing to contain the word "Pfaff".
Pfaff's name was first brought up in relation to Tortilla Man last August when SLIPKNOT guitarist Jim Root gave an interview to "The Art And Span Show" in which he described the mystery man as "a world-class pianist" and "a great percussionist" who is "schooled in music."
Pfaff was apparently introduced to Crahan years ago by SLIPKNOT's resident DJ Sid Wilson, which may explain why Tortilla Man has such good onstage chemistry with Sid and Clown. In addition, Pfaff has a similar build and height as Tortilla Man, and Redditors have found that Pfaff's family members are following "#tortillaman" and other hashtags on social media related to the newest member of SLIPKNOT.
Crahan refused to reveal the identity of the band's mysterious new ninth member in an interview with Kerrang! magazine, saying it was "nobody's fucking business."
SLIPKNOT's previous percussionist, Chris Fehn, sued the band last March, claiming he hadn't been properly compensated for his years of touring and recording with the group. Fehn, a member since 1998, was officially dismissed from the band last year.
In an interview with Zane Lowe on Beats 1, SLIPKNOT singer Corey Taylor said Tortilla Man had won the respect of bands and fans. "He's doing great and is a great dude," he said. "He's killing it, man."
Asked how anyone becomes an official member of SLIPKNOT, Taylor said: "First of all, you've got to wear the tortilla on your face. And the audience has to figure out who you are. With Tortilla Man, it's kinda cool. It's brought this whole new energy to everybody as well, so it's a lot of fun to watch him as well."
SLIPKNOT's sixth studio album, "We Are Not Your Kind", arrived in August.
Postojna Cave hosted its very first Grammy winners: we had a visit from three members of the famous American heavy metal band Slipknot. ?

RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE last played together in 2011 at L.A. Rising and has resisted calls for a reunion, with vocalist Zach De La Rocha previously believed to be the lone holdout. Guitarist Tom Morello and his fellow RAGE bandmates Tim Commerford (bass) and Brad Wilk (drums) have since teamed up with PUBLIC ENEMY's Chuck D. and CYPRESS HILL's B-Real in the similarly styled PROPHETS OF RAGE.
RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE recorded three original studio albums and one set of covers before breaking up in 2000. The group reformed in 2007 but only played sporadic gigs and never a full tour. Morello said in 2012, "We'd have to agree to go on one. Once a year, the band meets and very seriously discusses and turns down awesome offers to tour the world." | +2

SKUNK ANANSIE Releases Music Video For New Single 'This Means War'
SKUNK ANANSIE has shared the video for its powerful new single "This Means War", which features live footage of the iconic rock group on stage at Pol'and'Rock festival last year where they headlined to a huge crowd of over 850,000 fans. The track is a super-charged, rallying anthem with vocal powerhouse Skin's fiery and provocative lyrics commanding you to sit up and listen.
The video premiered exclusively with Kerrang!, where Skin explained: "We wrote this track just before we went on tour last summer. It totally stood out as a fan favorite and never left the setlist. So we're really happy to release a finished version produced by the magnificent Tom Dalgety. Enjoy!"
"This Means War" follows last year's single "What You Do For Love", which was the band's first instalment of new music in three years and garnered airplay on BBC Radio 2. Both tracks will be made available as a limited run "collector’s edition" double A-side vinyl seven-inch in April.
SKUNK ANANSIE is also thrilled to have been announced as part of this year's Meltdown Festival, on London's South Bank, which has been curated by music, film and fashion icon Grace Jones. They will be playing at the Royal Festival Hall on Thursday, June 18.
The news comes hot on the heels of SKUNK ANANSIE's 2020 U.K. headline tour being announced, which sees them playing venues across the U.K. throughout the year.
The last 25 years have seen SKUNK ANANSIE internationally acclaimed as one of the greatest British rock bands of all time. They were presented with the Hall Of Fame Award at the 2019 Kerrang! Awards while Skin herself has become one of the world's most iconic female performers, as well as inspirational role model, activist, trailblazer for women in the music industry, model and muse for designers. It's no surprise that she picked up the Inspirational Artist Award at the Music Week Awards in 2018.
Skin recently stunned audiences with incredible renditions of "Ave Maria", Madonna's "Like A Virgin", Stormzy's "Blinded By Your Grace" and Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On", whilst dressed as the hilarious Duck on ITV's smash hit show "The Masked Singer", and has just revealed that she will be reflecting on her incredible journey in her very first memoir co-written by respected journalist and friend Lucy O'Brien.
It promises an alternative narrative to the male-dominated, predominantly white Britpop era and will chart Skin's unique story from her working-class Brixton roots to the Glastonbury and international stage. The book is due for publication in September 2020 with Simon & Schuster and available to pre-order now.
SKUNK ANANSIE is renowned as one of the most fearless acts in modern British history. Their reflective, emotional and radical music has seen them grow as an important cultural force, on and off stage, while remaining honest and timely. The new single "This Means War" continues their story with a ferocious impact. | +3

Watch LIMP BIZKIT's FRED DURST Perform Acoustic Cover Of THE WHO's 'Behind Blue Eyes'
LIMP BIZKIT frontman Fred Durst performed a cover version of THE WHO classic "Behind Blue Eyes" on Saturday (February 8) in Los Angeles at a memorial for Andrew Burkle, an aspiring film producer and son of billionaire Ron Burkle. It marked the first time that Fred had sung the song live while playing an acoustic guitar. The event, which was organized by the Tony Hawk Foundation, also included performances by most of the current lineup of RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS and JANE'S ADDICTION.
LIMP BIZKIT's cover of "Behind Blue Eyes" was featured on the band's 2003 album "Results May Vary". The accompanying music video saw Durst passionately making out with Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry, star of the flick "Gothika", which featured the song. Durst, who directed the video for THE WHO cover in Los Angeles, described the finale in his treatment as "the greatest kiss you'll ever see."
LIMP BIZKIT's version of "Behind Blue Eyes" was widely panned by the music press, with The Observer writing in its album review that the song "will make you glad they invented the Stop button." Despite this, the track was released as a single, and it managed to climb to No. 71 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart (it fared a little better on the rock-radio charts, reaching No. 11 at mainstream and No. 18 at modern).
LIMP BIZKIT hasn't released a new studio album since 2011's "Gold Cobra". Since then, LIMP BIZKIT has issued four singles and promised to release a full-length collection of new material called "Stampede Of The Disco Elephants". That LP never surfaced.
LIMP BIZKIT and Lil Wayne's collaborative single, "Ready To Go", was made available in July 2013. The track was released via Cash Money, Lil Wayne's longtime record company.
LIMP BIZKIT in 2011 parted ways with Interscope, the label that released all of the band's records thus far through its subsidiaries Flip, Geffen and Suretone Records.

CRADLE OF FILTH Parts Ways With Keyboardist LINDSAY SCHOOLCRAFT
CRADLE OF FILTH has announced the departure of keyboardist Lindsay Schoolcraft.
Lindsay has been with the band for the last seven years, and in that time has been privy to a massive resurgence both on record and live, with CRADLE OF FILTH undertaking some of the most prolific touring in the band's 28-year history, a feat that has indelibly been both (ultimately) rewarding and understandably exhausting at the same time.
Lindsay commented: "It has been an honour and a pleasure to get to know you online, in person, and from the stage the past seven years. You have made my life fulfilling during this period of time.
"I am here to inform you that I have left the band. It was a difficult decision to make, but I can assure you it was the best thing to do for my well-being and mental health.
"I have been doing well on my road to recovery and will continue to be a full-time musician through my other two musical projects.
"I want to extend a massive thank you to the band for letting me be part of CRADLE OF FILTH's legacy for the time I was present. It was an incredible experience and I'm so grateful that we got to share this together.
"I want to send my well wishes to my successor too and I ask you all to please be as warm and welcoming towards them as you were with me so long ago.
"I hope that some of you will continue to join me on my journey as a composer and singer. The magick and the (black) metal doesn’t end here.
"Thank you again for all of the love, support, and memories. It will not be forgotten."
CRADLE OF FILTH frontman Dani Filth added: "This is very difficult for everyone in the band who have become a very tightly-knit family on the road, but ultimately it is something that has come to pass out of necessity both for her health and the band's musical development hereon-in.
"Of course we will miss Lindsay a lot, and we hate to have to part ways, as we've travelled a beautifully madcap road together over the last few years and collectively share many amazing memories from those travels. Plus she is like our little (Gothic, Canadian, Vegan) sister.
"So the band and I wish her the very very best for everything she has planned for the future and I hope you guys reading this continue to support her too.
"And though this truly is the end of an era, it is also the aromatic promise of another.
"Lindsay's successor has already been unearthed and is contributing to the new record like a demented unearthed thing.
"The new album commences recording in a little over a fortnight's time and a release date is set for later in the year."
CRADLE OF FILTH's latest album, "Cryptoriana - The Seductiveness of Decay", came out in 2017.
The band performed its third LP, 1998's "Cruelty And The Beast", in its entirety at several shows last spring and summer, including at the Dokk'em Open Air and Summer Breeze festivals.

As the 1960s drew to a close, Hendrix was at the apex of his fame and influence. His first three albums with The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold As Love and Electric Ladyland - had established him as both a musical visionary and an international superstar. By the end of the decade, though, Hendrix was looking for new musical challenges and feeling the need to work with new collaborators. Towards that end, he assembled the Band Of Gypsys lineup, with bassist Billy Cox, an old friend from Hendrix’s early days playing in R&B combos, and drummer Buddy Miles, already well known for his work with the Electric Flag and the Buddy Miles Express. The resulting album is a revolutionary fusion of blues, funk and rock that stands as a unique chapter in Hendrix’s seminal body of work.
Beyond Hendrix’s meteoric growth as a musician and composer, the guitarist was hamstrung by a lawsuit whose roots drew back to 1965 when Hendrix was an unknown sideman and occasional studio musician. Hendrix contributed guitar to a series of recordings for the R&B group Curtis Knight & the Squires. Despite having already signed an exclusive recording contract the previous July with Sue Records, Hendrix inexplicably signed a one-page artist agreement with PPX Industries which bound his services not just for the Knight sessions but for a period of three years. Two 45rpm singles from these studio recordings were licensed by PPX Industries in early 1966 to RSVP Records, a small, New York based independent label. Neither record made any commercial impact and Hendrix and Knight quickly went their separate ways. These recordings and the one-page agreement with PPX [for which Hendrix received one dollar] were still in effect after he achieved international recognition. In direct competition against Hendrix albums such as Are You Experienced, Get That Feeling collection of recordings from the sessions Hendrix had recorded with Curtis Knight was released. Following litigation, in 1968 a settlement required Hendrix to deliver an album of original material to Capitol Records for distribution.
Recalls Billy Cox, “There had been a lawsuit against him and the only way out of that was to give them something. Jimi came to me and explained what had happened. Then it was decided to give them an album. I said let’s go for it. At that time Mitch was in England, but Buddy would frequent the studios with us and he decided the same thing; lets help our friend in need. Ultimately we became the Band Of Gypsys.” Band Of Gypsys was recorded by legendary remote recording engineer Wally Heider during two historic performances at New York’s Fillmore East on New Year’s Day 1970. “Who Knows” and “Machine Gun” were drawn from the 1/1/70 first show while the remaining four songs which make up the album’s second side were recorded during the 1/1/70 last show.
The album encompasses six then-unreleased songs, with the searing original blues “Machine Gun” - an anti-war epic performed by two musicians in Hendrix and Cox who had actually served in the US Army coupled with such powerful numbers as “Message To Love,” “Power Of Soul,” each documenting Hendrix’s decisive shift in musical direction, laying the groundwork for many of the funk rock experiments that would follow in the decades to come.
Originally released in America on March 25, 1970, Band Of Gypsys peaked at #5 during a 61-week run on the Billboard album chart. At the time of his death in September 1970, it was Hendrix’s best selling US album since Are You Experienced. The last album that Hendrix released during his lifetime, Band Of Gypsys offers a tantalizing glimpse at what might have been.

British rock heroes Wishbone Ash have released a new single today. The song "Back In The Day" is taken from the forthcoming studio album, Coat Of Arms". Guitarist / vocalist Andy Powell describes the song as “A real full-on, driving rock song about living the life - the rock life, featuring guitars aplenty!”
Check out the song below.
In the annals of rock music, there have been few bands with a lasting stylistic influence who continue to be active to this day and are celebrated at their shows not only for their past accomplishments but who continue to impress their fans with new albums, new songs and fresh ideas at regular intervals. Wishbone Ash certainly count among this rare species.
Almost precisely fifty years ago this January, the group surrounding guitarist/vocalist Andy Powell first caught attention with the release of their debut album Wishbone Ash (1970). Two years later, they went on to write music history with their third release Argus, and since then Wishbone Ash have brought out more than two dozen outstanding studio and live recordings, among them classics such as Live Dates (1973), There's The Rub (1974) and New England (1976), as well as more recent gems such as The Power Of Eternity (2007) and Elegant Stealth (2011).
Their latest release, Coat Of Arms, forges an arc to all these offerings, featuring Wishbone Ash’s characteristic twin lead guitar parts, their haunting melodies and diverse stylistic facets, while at the same time imbuing the scene with a breath of fresh air.
Coat Of Arms sounds stylistically diverse and technically accomplished, yet the new album is typical of Wishbone Ash’s traditional strengths - a balancing act that is a challenge to Andy Powell every time: “Following the countless songs that we have written throughout the history of Wishbone Ash, my own expectations are extremely high. On the one hand as a composer you try not to repeat yourself in your creative output but to come up with new ideas all the time, on the other you want to remain faithful to your style. Good songs need an inner conviction and the right inspiration. We had both when we started working on Coat Of Arms. You’d be right in describing the current line-up as the best in the history of Wishbone Ash. We all love our lives as musicians, the direct contact with our fans, travelling, the shows, our songs. It’s that commitment by everybody involved that you hear in every single note on Coat Of Arms.”
Coat Of Arms will be released through SPV/Steamhammer on February 28 on CD DigiPak, 2LP (incl. bonus track), download and stream. Pre-order here.

PUTRID OFFAL - New Album, Sicknesses Obsessions, Due In May
Blood will be running free this Spring as Putrid Offal will be back on May 22nd with a new surgical butchery titled Sicknesses Obsessions.
After their 2015 comeback debut Mature Necropsy, the complete re-writing and re-recording of all of their ’90s material, Putrid Offal are now back with a brand new bloody carnage 19 years after their stillbirth!
Recorded and mixed at Psykron Studio (Mercyless, Undead Prophecies) and mastered at Conkrete studio (Otargos, Gorod) like its predecessor, featuring special guests among which Stéphane Buriez (Sinsaenum, Loudblast) and Arnaud Dhenain (Black Bomb A), this new platter of splatter splits the torso wide open and extirpates 15 tracks of frenetic anatomical rampage.
For the careful listener and the real fan, Putrid Offal is not the usual “just gore” and has never been, as ever since their cult 1991 split with Exulceration, the band featured Gregorian chants and more into their nevertheless viscerally gory death/grind. Sicknesses Obsessions is no exception and will definitely impress the unsuspecting listener with unpredictable surprises throughout the album making the band really stand out.
Pre-orders will begin on April 13th for the first batch of deluxe versions: first print on DigiPak CD (limited to 500 copies) will not only feature two bonus tracks exclusive to the support (17 tracks), but also a live DVD of their pathological performance at 2017’s Hellfest while the two vinyl versions (red, limited to 100 copies and black) will feature another bonus track, again clusive to this support (16 tracks).

The world of Insanity Alert is a dark yet happy place. Fast, aggressive music, crazy lyrics about alcohol, rage, weed, ignorance and hate, all drenched in an '80s hot sauce but played with a 2019 attitude. The band emerged from the Austrian city of Innsbruck in 2011, with only one intent: deliver crushing, crossover party thrash.

WAITING FOR MONDAY Premier "Shattered Lives" Music Video
A music video for "Shattered Lives", a track from Waiting For Monday's upcoming self-titled debut album, is available for streaming below.
Waiting For Monday is a new melodic rock band formed by vocalist Rudy Cardenas and guitarist/singer August Zadra. The band hails from Los Angeles and was brought to the attention of Frontiers by Jeff Scott Soto, with the label moving quickly to sign them based on their outstanding talents.
Musically, you can expect classic chart topping melodies ala Journey, Styx, and Foreigner, but with a decidedly modern approach. And if you are looking for sunny, meaningless lyrics, then you probably best look elsewhere as the band has stories to tell, and not all of them happy.
The band's self-titled debut album will be released on February 14. Pre-order here.
Originally from Venezuela, Rudy Cardenas is an incredible vocal talent. His pipes carried him to the finals on Season 6 of American Idol and he has been heard on TV and movies ranging from Family Guy to Real Steel. For five years, Rudy was the power alto for the multi-award winning vocal group, M-pact, who was named Vocal Group of the Year at the 2005 L.A. Music Awards. More recently, Rudy was the featured vocalist for the Gold-selling Hungarian rock album by Mr. Zsolt.
August Zadra is best known for handling lead guitar and vocal duties in iconic singer Dennis DeYoung's solo band since 2010. Since the age of 15, guitar playing has been a passion that carried August from Fairbanks, Alaska to Hollywood, California, where he attended and graduated from the Guitar Institute of Technology. He has been a regular feature in the Los Angeles music scene for the past 20 years, playing with a variety of bands, and is often sought out as a guitarist/vocalist collaborator for writing and recording projects.
Completing the lineup are Joe Travers (drums), Walter Ino (guitar and keyboards), and Eric Baines (bass).

LOST LEGACY To Release In The Name Of Freedom Album In March; "Front Line" Music Video Streaming
New York power metallers, Lost Legacy, will be releasing their new album, In The Name Of Freedom, on March 20 via Pure Steel Records. Featuring forty-six minutes of pure metal, the sophomore release is a concept album serving as an act II to their debut full length, which was inspired by the tragedy of 9/11.
The band explains: “The concept of In The Name Of Freedom is our way to thank our men and women of the armed forces for their sacrifice. It’s not about glorifying war, but these gallant people give so much and are often forgotten.”
The first single, "Front Line", is a melodic track that has a heavy breakdown rhythm section prior to a soaring guitar solo. Dave Franco's vocals are like a cannon and make this song a headbanger for everyone. Watch a video for the song below.
Lost Legacy has been around since 1998 and their dedication to their craft shows. Having four excellent musicians and a vocalist that can play guitar and write riffs makes for a plethora of ideas. With Franco’s vocal capacity and range, it has transformed them to write music that enhances his vocal performances and gives the band the freedom to play intellectual metal.
Lost Legacy discusses their expectations of the album: “We believe that this album is a genuine representation of how we sound in a live setting. We take great pride in putting on a great show and when we approached this record, we wanted to have a live band feeling. Our fans will be pleased with the songs, the sound, and the production. The music has catchy guitar-driven riffs and soaring vocals. We promise it will deliver great energy and inspiration to fans of classic power metal.”

JON SCHAFFER Says New DEMONS & WIZARDS Album 'III' Will Be A 'Classic Record'
Alex Haber of Heavy New York recently conducted an interview with BLIND GUARDIAN frontman Hansi Kürsch and ICED EARTH mainman Jon Schaffer about their DEMONS & WIZARDS side project. You can watch the entire chat below. A few excerpts follow (transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).
On whether first singles "Diabolic" and "Midas Disease" from DEMONS & WIZARDS' forthcoming "III" studio album represent the entire album or are the "tip of the iceberg":
Jon: "It's the tip of the iceberg because out of the 11 songs, all 11 songs are a different journey. It really is the tip of the iceberg. It's hard to put into words until you hear it and until you get some time to absorb it. There's every kind of element and journey with hard and heavy music that you could really think of is there. It's done in a very honest and authentic way. I feel in the cells of my existence that this will be a classic record. It's for the fans to decide that, but I really feel it's headed that way."
Hansi: "There's more than just a little potential. It's one of the albums you feel confident from the very first moment you start working on it. Being the 15-year span in between the two albums, making the excitement of working together with Jon, I have no idea, but, the things turn out exactly how you would wish for. We do not really have any plans, patterns of how the album should have come along, but at the very end, you have to live with what the outcome is, the very first output and you build up from that. It felt more than just natural. It was an enjoyable trip to work on this stuff. I still believe we're still talking about the first two songs, especially 'Diabolic', which was intended to be this statement and it had that impact when the video came out, you really could feel how amazed people were. That even increases my expectations for this album while 'Midas Disease' is so unusual that people might be a little confused about it, but if you hear the whole album, then you will see, that's one more journey into a completely different direction. For us, that is the most enjoyable trip of all of them because it's so rock and roll-ish and let your hair down. It's more or less just letting go, and I really love that about that song. I feel it matches our personalities so well, even though it's a completely different genre."
Jon: "It's something we never did together or independent with our main bands, that whole vibe. The thing is, we had talked about releasing 'Invincible' as the second single. We had such a strong reaction from 'Midas Disease' from people at our label and the press tour we did before Christmas in Europe. Like, every journalist was talking about that song. We had a discussion with the label and decided…all of these songs will be out before too long anyway, but maybe this was the way to go. It is what it is. We got another song dropping before too long that's going to take you into another direction. It's pretty cool, man. The whole thing is epic."
On whether the two had a preconceived plan during the songwriting for "III" or the songs came together organically:
Jon: "The music always happens organically, but the one thing we had talked about was to embrace the classic rock side of the things Hansi and I love and some of our influences. Some of my favorite parts of things that we scratched on the first two DEMONS records, there are some of those elements, the classic rock vibe in there, so we had that discussion beforehand to embrace that a little more. We certainly did with 'Timeless Spirit' and 'Children Of Cain', and I think even in a few other pieces of songs. You could even somehow lump 'Midas Disease' into that, though I feel like 'Children Of Cain' and 'Timeless Spirit' get more into the [LED] ZEPPELIN, [PINK] FLOYD, EAGLES, whatever, that '70s classic rock trip. Those songs are in that realm somehow. 'Midas Disease' is definitely more of an AC/DC, fist-in-the-air rock anthem kind of stuff. But those were really things we discussed, but everything just flowed. I sent Hansi the ideas and he liked them. Even with 'Midas Disease', probably the first half of that song was stuff from the 'Incorruptible' ICED EARTH writing sessions. Once that developed, I just put it off and I sent it to him and said, 'What do you think of this? It's different.' He liked it. I said, 'Okay. Let's go a little further.' We added a couple of more sections and we did it and we came up with it. It just happened. But it's all organic. It's all about if I send Hansi an idea and he's not vibing on it, which I don't know that's actually ever happened, but if it did and if he said 'no,' I'm not going to get my feelings hurt. I'm going to say, 'I got this idea.' I got ideas all the time. It's not a problem. He reacts to those and we make this cool thing happen."
On whether DEMONS & WIZARDS is unafraid to try new things and embrace different elements:
Hansi: "That is part of the whole attraction of DEMONS & WIZARDS, that there is so much different stuff, even on the first album. We, coincidentally, found out that we are able to write songs back in '97, '98 when we had a hangover day at my place and he played guitar and I was humming to it and we both felt attracted by it. We said let's go to the BLIND GUARDIAN studio and record that song. Even back then, we just didn't think about founding a band together. It happened a little later, but ever since it was like he throws whatever and I pick it up and I can relate to it and I can bring myself into it and that's a blend which is quite unusual already. I remember back in the day when people expected what 'ICED GUARDIAN' would look and sound like. They were still sometimes surprised that even in the very early beginnings it was something different than expected, 'Fiddler On The Green' is a perfect example. That, for sure, no one has had on their minds when they were thinking about DEMONS & WIZARDS musically. We progressed with regard to that. I don't think you can really pre-design the sound of a band. You, for sure, cannot plan a whole album according to plan. You really have to live with the moment you are in and you have to live with your expression and what your inner source of art is willing to get free for you and to work with. With regard to DEMONS & WIZARDS and I'm now getting to the point, it is a very wide universe. We are not afraid of touching different regions, neither lyrically, not musically. Whatever we feel most suitable with, we do. And sometimes you match the interests of fans one hundred percent and in the worst case, with regard to our art, 80 percent, 85 percent. We never have gone wrong completely, I would say. With this album, and I'll close the circle here, this is a hundred percent."
DEMONS & WIZARDS' third studio album, "III", is due February 21 via Century Media Records. The LP marks the band's first collection of new material in 15 years.

Former GUNS N' ROSES Guitarist GILBY CLARKE Returns With New Single 'Rock N Roll Is Getting Louder'
Former GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Gilby Clarke has released a brand-new single, "Rock N Roll Is Getting Louder", via Golden Robot Records. A true stormer of a track in pure Gilby fashion, it is rock and roll doused in the influences that run through Gilby's veins. It is a song that is set to become a true anthem and longtime fan favorite.
A year ago when his deal with Golden Robot was announced, Clarke's first solo album in 15 years, "The Gospel Truth", was supposed to arrive before the end of 2019. There has been no update on a possible release date for the effort.
At last year's NAMM show in in Anaheim, California, Clarke stated about the long delay in getting his new solo album completed: "For me, I can't do a record unless I feel good about the songs. I wanna make a record that I wanna listen to. So, these songs I'm really excited about. They're new songs. It really is classic rock. There's really nothing new on it — it's just a new version of what I like to do, which is loud guitars, man. So, I went in there. I used guys like Kenny Aronoff on drums, Steve Perkins — some really great players. I played all the guitars and did all the singing on it. But I think it's good — I think it's a good fresh approach on classic rock, really."
Gilby has spent the last few years working on the disc, which will reportedly feature members of Clarke's solo band, EJ Curse (bass/vocals) and Troy Patrick Farrell (drums/vocals).
Clarke replaced founding guitarist Izzy Stradlin in the GUNS lineup in 1991, during the "Use Your Illusion" tour, and stayed with the band for three years. After exiting GUNS N' ROSES, Clarke continued as a producer and solo artist, while also playing in SLASH'S SNAKEPIT, ROCK STAR SUPERNOVA, HEART and other acts.
Clarke released his solo debut, "Pawnshop Guitars", in 1994.

Watch RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS Perform Live With JOHN FRUSCIANTE For First Time Since 2007
RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS performed live with guitarist John Frusciante for the first time in more than 12 years on Saturday (February 8) in Los Angeles at a memorial for Andrew Burkle, an aspiring film producer and son of billionaire Ron Burkle. The event, which was organized by the Tony Hawk Foundation, also included a performance by JANE'S ADDICTION, which features former CHILI PEPPERS guitarist Dave Navarro.
Tony Hawk, president of the Tony Hawk Foundation, posted several Instagram clips of RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS' set, which didn't include drummer Chad Smith. (JANE'S ADDICTION's Stephen Perkins stepped in for him.) At one point, Frusciante also joined JANE'S ADDICTION on stage for a rendition of "Mountain Song".
Hawk wrote on Instagram: " Today we celebrated the life of Andrew Burkle. He was a beloved son, friend and brother to the lucky ones that surrounded him. Because of him, @tonyhawkfoundation had landmark fundraising events in Beverly Hills for 10 years in a row and I am forever grateful for his support in our mission.
"Thank you to the Burkle family for including us in your celebration of Andrew. His passion for life was contagious, and his spirit lives on through our work. A perfect example of Andrew's magnetism was displayed this afternoon when this all-star lineup came together to perform Iggy Pop and GANG OF FOUR (and RHCP) songs in his honor. Thank you Andrew, we will miss you beyond words."
Frusciante rejoined RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS in December after the dismissal of Josh Klinghoffer, who had been in the band for 10 years.
Klinghoffer, who took over for Frusciante in 2010, told Rolling Stone that he received the news from his bandmates during a meeting at bassist Flea's house. Klinghoffer said he suspected the seeds for Frusciante's return had been planted far earlier, with the guitarist reaching out to singer Anthony Kiedis and their tour manager as much as 18 months prior.
He explained: "[John] was definitely showing his face in CHILI PEPPER world a little bit just with emails and apologizing about past behavior. So every time I would hear a story about that, I thought, 'What is he doing? Does he want to come back?'"
Klinghoffer said his firing was "a total blindside" as the band were "so far into the writing of a new record," adding, "Here was an album that was more than half written, but I guess I let my guard down because I thought we had done so much work." Klinghoffer said he expected the band to scrap the music they worked on and start over. The guitarist also said that he was "not particularly fond of the two records" he wrote and recorded on — 2011's "I'm With You" and 2016's "The Getaway".
Drummer Chad Smith recently revealed that the PEPPERS have begun working on new material with Frusciante.
Thank you to the Burkle family for including us in your celebration of Andrew. His passion for life was contagious & his spirit lives on through our work at @THF.

PAINTED WIVES Release New Song "Truth & Consequences"; Audio Streaming
Los Angeles-based worshippers, Painted Wives, reemerge with "Truth & Consequences", the first track from their long-awaited sophomore LP, New Medusa, on Century Media Records. The product of a long and intense writing and recording span, New Medusa found the quartet working with Cave In/Mutoid Man frontman and guru Stephen Brodsky and producer Machine (Lamb Of God, Clutch) to take the next step in their sound. Listen to "Truth & Consequences" below.
New Medusa continues the inscrutable path Painted Wives began on their 2017 Century Media debut, Obsessed With The End, a remixed version of the band's self-recorded and issued debut of the year before. Songs like the opener "Cellular Eclipse" straddle elements of rock, modern progressive rock, and doom metal topped with frontman Justin Suitor's distinct and plaintive vocals. The band praises Brodsky in helping them nail their sound. "I was a fan of Steve's to begin with - all the way back to Cave In's Until Your Heart Stops," says Suitor. "He helped us really hone our sound and get to the essence of what Painted Wives is all about."
Painted Wives, rounded out by drummer Derek Eglit, guitarist Jeff Lyman, bassist Justin Morales, and lyricist Ryan Williams spent a year conjuring New Medusa, which was mixed by Jay Ruston (Anthrax, Stone Sour). Along the way, songs were honed and twisted into a sound that invites comparisons to Alice In Chains, Mastodon and Black Sabbath, but emerges out of the riffy muck as something uniquely their own. "This feels like as much of a new start for us as a continuation of Obsessed with the End," says Suitor. "In the past, we labored over every part, every lyric and probably over-thought things. Once we hit our stride, it started taking on a life of its own."
Painted Wives ossified from the remains of Railroad to Alaska, a cult Orange County ensemble that straddled the extremes of heaviness and eclecticism. A musical downshift to heavier turf found Suitor & Co. rechristening the band Painted Wives and gigging around the OC. When their independent release crossed the desk of Century Media's A&R dept., the band was signed to their current label home. Gigs and tours with the likes of Lacuna Coil, Avatar and most recently, Cave-In ensued, proving the Wives an engaging (and fucking loud) live proposition.
New Medusa is here. "Truth & Consequences" is just the beginning for Painted Wives' new odyssey.

Former FLYLEAF Singer LACEY STURM Is Recording New Solo Album
Former FLYLEAF vocalist Lacey Sturm has commenced the recording process for her second solo album. This past Friday, she posted that drum tracks were being laid down for the disc, which is due later this year.
Sturm previously revealed that she had collaborated with SKILLET's Korey Cooper for the project.
Lacey's debut solo album, "Life Screams", was released in February 2016 via Followspot Records with The Fuel Music distribution. The record featured collaborations with Cooper, husband/guitarist Josh Sturm, and Grammy Award-winning writer and producer David Hodges. A 12-song album, "Reflect Love Back: Soundtrack Vol 1", followed in 2019, featuring songs written and recorded by Lacey and Josh Sturm as a soundtrack for a 12-week video series, Reflect Love Back.
Sturm recently collaborated on a track for BREAKING BENJAMIN's "Aurora" album, a collection of reimagined versions of the band's biggest and most popular songs. Sturm also leads a busy post-FLYLEAF life as an author, motivational speaker and happily married mother of three.
Sturm left FLYLEAF in October 2012. She was replaced by Kristen May, who recorded one album with the group, 2014's "Between The Stars", before exiting.

IRON SAVIOR Bassist JAN-SÖREN ECKERT Diagnosed With Cancer - "The Odds For A Complete Recovery Are Almost 100%"
Iron Savior frontman / founder Pet Sielck has checked in with some sad news, but with a light at the end of the tunnel:
"After not feeling well for quite some time, Jan (Sören Eckert / bass) went to hospital right after our show at Knust where he was diagnosed with cancer. He got almost immediate surgery which went totally well and by now there also is an extremely positive prognosis. Docs say that a complete recovery is more than likely and quote the odds near to 100%, so we can rock the stage together for many, many years! Jan has already started his chemotherapy treatment which will take approximately 16 weeks. During that time he cannot perform with us for obvious reason, but Jan Bünning from mighty Paragon will jump in. So no gigs will be canceled, all shows in February will happen as planed and announced! So if you are planning to visit one of our shows, make sure to bring a good load of positive energy for Jan. HEAVY METAL NEVER DIES."
Eckert has posted the following message:
"Well, there it is, that moment when you realize that you have transformed from a spectator to the main character in a TV-hospital-cancer-drama-story-blablabla. Usually it’s always others who have cancer and you would never think that you’d have to deal with it yourself, but sometimes it becomes bitter reality for oneself.
To cut a long story short, I’ve been diagnosed with cancer, already had a very successful surgery and have started chemotherapy last week. The prognosis is very good and the odds for a complete recovery are almost 100%. As a result of these facts I won’t be able to perform with Iron Savior for a couple of months. For sure I didn’t want the band to cancel the four upcoming shows in February 2020, and so we asked our fellow friend Jan Bünning of mighty Paragon, who agreed to fill in for me right away and will take over the bass part for those shows. Thank you Jan for filling in, thank you very much indeed!
Dear friends/fans: please support my bandmates with your positive power. HEAVY METAL NEVER DIES."
I’ll be back!"

EPIC TANTRUM Announce Release Party For Debut Double Album; "Letting Go" Lyric Video Streaming
On Saturday, February 29, one of prog rock’s most promising new bands, Epic Tantrum, will be celebrating both the release of their debut album, Abandoned In The Stranger’s Room, as well as the birthday of one of their band members - at the Most Museum (500 S Franklin St, Syracuse, NY). Doors open at 8:30 PM. Epic Tantrum will play in the Imax Theater at the Most Museum. This will also be a multimedia experience with videos playing on the screen while the band performs below (ticket info is available at EpicTantrum.com). This is a show you do not want to miss.
Containing elements of prog rock, jazz, and heavy metal, Epic Tantrum’s debut offering, the double disc Abandoned In The Stranger’s Room was released on January 20, 2020 (go here for digital ordering info) - with the first part of the album, Abandoned, featuring studio recordings of previously unreleased material. The second part, ‘he Stranger’s Room, features live versions of songs from Abandoned as well as material that appeared on previously released demos. The album also features a cover design by Ioaniss of DangerousAge Graphics, who has designed covers for King Crimson, Dream Theater, Sepultura and many more.
Epic Tantrum is comprised of members Peter - guitar, vox; Paul - guitar, vox; Greg - bass, vox; and Z - drums. The origins of the band started in 2007 when Peter and Paul began recording instrumental classical guitar pieces. They enjoyed working together and decided to write and record original material in Paul's studio, known as The Strangers Room. Inspired by the creative process of Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, the two wrote songs and tinkered with them until they were satisfied, at which point they brought in friends to round out their recording sessions. That's when Paul's longtime friend Z joined the band as the drummer. They named this collaboration Epic Tantrum, and recorded a demo entitled ‘31st’ and ‘Mary.' Over the next few years, with several starts and stops, they continued to write and record material - but the goal of a full band remained elusive. In 2016 Greg joined the band as bassist and the hard work of finishing their debut album kicked into full gear.
Epic Tantrum released a lyric video for their song, "Letting Go" on February 6. "Letting Go" is their first attempt at what the band members call cinematic music. The piece begins with a catchy but moody, emotional verse, chorus, then twists and turns until it becomes a bombastic, cathartic blast of emotion at the end. The video reflects this emotion with a mix of imagery that echoes the lyrics about disillusionment and heartbreak. You can watch the video below.
Epic Tantrum started playing live in 2017 and has already shared the stage with national recording artists - such as King's X.
“The perfect blend of prog and metal,” - Mike Portnoy
"Epic Tantrum is like the bastard children of Rush and Steely Dan. Powerful clever songs with twists and turns and musicianship to match," said Ioannis of DangerousAge Graphics. "This band is something special."
"The best new band I have seen in over a decade,” said the Matt Cooper, the owner of the Inside Out Tavern in Syracuse, NY where Epic Tantrum played their first show. “They played three songs in my club and I ran on stage, grabbed the mic and declared them my favorite new band!"
And with the arrival of Abandoned In The Stranger’s Room, the rest of the world will soon experience the outstanding talents of the fast-rising Epic Tantrum.

DIABULUS IN MUSICA Release New Single "One Step Higher"; Audio
In anticipation of their new album, Euphonic Entropy (out on February 14 via Napalm Records), Diabulus In Musica soars higher than ever before with the release of their newest single, “One Step Higher”. The diverse and emotional song merges all the characteristics of the group’s sound. Electronic interludes, choral chants and heavier guitar-based sections create a captivating soundscape of self-discovery and confidence.
A lyrical call for freedom and determination, “One Step Higher” beautifully showcases both sides of Diabulus In Musica’s musical personality - the darker, daring one, and the one of ambitious visionaries striving relentlessly towards their goals. The track tells the story of the persisting search of one’s ambitions and exploring the unknown through the poetic prism of dreams. Similar to other tracks from Euphonic Entropy, Diabulus In Musica highlights the importance of faith in our own abilities and intuition in regard to the challenge of changing the world and fulfilling our own dreams.

The album is bursting with power ballads, beautiful melodies and emotions. Songs like the infectious and ultra-melodic “Otoi” (featuring lyrics in Basque language) bewitch the listener’s senses. Listen To New KVELERTAK Song 'Fanden Ta Dette Hull!'
"Fanden Ta Dette Hull!", a brand new song from Norwegian rockers KVELERTAK, can be streamed below. The track is taken from the band's upcoming album, "Splid", due on February 14 via Rise Records. The follow-up to 2016's "Nattesferd" will mark the group's first release since the departure of longtime frontman Erlend Hjelvik and addition of Ivar Nikolaisen.
"Splid" was recorded with Kurt Ballou at Godcity Studio in Salem, Massachusetts.
"Working with Kurt again has been amazing and we're extremely happy with the production," the band said. "We've pushed ourselves to the edge this last year — musically, physically, and mentally. The result is one hour of catchy riffs, punk rock, and heavy metal influenced by a world in discord to accompany our way towards Ragnarok."
"Splid" track listing:
01. Rogaland
02. Crack Of Doom (feat. Troy Sanders)
03. Necrosoft
04. Discord
05. Bråtebrann
06. Uglas Hegemoni
07. Fanden Ta Dette Hull!
08. Tevling
09. Stevnemøte Med Satan
10. Delirium Tremens
11. Ved Bredden Av Nihil
KVELERTAK guitarist Vidar Landa told Ireland's Overdrive that the singer switch "was seamless in a way. We knew that Erlend wanted to quit and do other stuff," he said. "We were lucky that we had that close connection with Ivar. He's been part of KVELERTAK for a long time and has sung on a few tracks for us in the past, doing backing vocals. We've toured together in the past also so he was really the only one that we were thinking of to replace him when Erlend was first talking about leaving. Luckily, Ivar wanted to do it and it's all just fit really well, thankfully. It would have been much harder to go through the audition process and undergo that process of looking for a new vocalist. We were very lucky for the way it all happened."
Nikolaisen made his live debut with KVELERTAK in July 2018 at the Fjellparkfestivalen in Flekkefjord, Norway.
