In April 2015, it was announced that Brazilian guitarist Kiko Loureiro had joined MEGADETH, replacing Chris Broderick, who had left the band five months earlier. In the nine-minute video below, Kiko reveals the story behind his audition for MEGADETH, and shares a clip he sent to David Ellefson and Dave Mustaine of him performing the song "Hangar 18" as a way of showcasing his skills.
Introducing the audition video, Kiko says: "This is not a 'How To Play A MEGADETH Song' video. So don't try to learn how to play this song from this video. There's a lot of wrong notes, a lot of wrong riffs. But there's a story behind this video. So let me tell you.
"In 2015, I got a call from Dave Ellefson and Dave Mustaine to do the audition for MEGADETH. And the management bought me a ticket on Monday to go to Nashville to meet Dave Mustaine and then actually to do the audition. But then I offered, 'So do you guys want me to film me playing from home so I can send you a video playing a few songs?' And they said, 'Yes.' So I had a Saturday and a Sunday to learn a few songs and shoot the video. So on Saturday I learned 'Symphony Of Destruction', 'Hangar 18', 'Trust' and 'Holy Wars'. I tried to learn as fast as I could, memorize the structure of the songs, the riffs and the solos. So that's why there's a lot of mistakes there. And then I filmed on Sunday the four songs. I found some backing tracks on YouTube, put my camera, little amp and played. So I didn't fix any notes, I didn't try to edit or do anything — just the real Kiko trying to play the four songs in two days. My idea was not to show that I could play a hundred percent note for note, but the idea was to show that I had the technique, I had the style and I would be able to play the MEGADETH songs, of course, if I would have more time to learn all the notes. So I sent to the management, to Ellefson, to Dave Mustaine. Dave Mustaine answered, like, 'Okay, there's a lot of wrong notes.' [Laughs] Then, on Monday, I flew to Nashville, and then here I am."
Kiko, who was previously a member of the Brazilian metal band ANGRA, continued: "A lot of people were asking me about those videos, but I didn't know where they were. So now, finally, I had the time to go through my hard disks and I found them. And please enjoy, but don't try to learn the way I'm playing here, because it's not correct. I did other videos on my YouTube channel showing how to play those songs, and you also can find a lot of tutorials, much better tutorials on the Internet from other players, and also the live gigs, the live shows, you can see me playing probably not a hundred percent but much better than this video. But I think it's good to watch what I did."
In an October 2015 interview with The Irish Sun, Mustaine was full of praise for Loureiro, saying: "A lot of times guitarists won't know how to add to something — they'll put something in there that's kind of like tits on a bull, unnecessary. Kiko came in and immediately started making some really good suggestions that we applied [to MEGADETH's 2016 album, 'Dystopia']. When he first came in, I knew he had the ability but I didn't know if the songwriting technique and talent was going to show up this early on."
He continued: "What was great about the suggestions that Kiko made was that they weren't just guitar ones — he made a bass part in a song called 'Me Hate You' [that made it] really come along. In fact, that was one of the songs where he made a huge melodic contribution in the chorus and I said, 'Man, this sounds like something.'"
According to Dave, Kiko possesses all the elements that are required to become part of a legendary metal act like MEGADETH.
"For me — really simply stated — if you want to be a musician, that's one thing. If you want to be a rock star, that's another," Mustaine said. "But if you want to be legendary, you need to have three very important components: you need to have ability, you need to have appearance, and you need to have attitude. Without all three of those things, it's kind of like trying to have a three-legged milk stool without three legs — it's just not going to work."
He continued: "I found with Kiko, his ability was astronomical, with his attitude he was very confident in what he did — there's a difference between confidence and arrogance. In appearance, he was very classy and very subdued on the street, but up on stage he totally takes command of his performance. When he came up to Nashville to visit with me, I didn't even have him play for the majority of the day he was there. I just wanted to hang out with him and it's been a really long time since I hung out with a guitar player before I hired him. Usually I would listen to how he played and then I'd go, 'Okay, we'll work it out.' I didn't want to do that again. Hanging out with Kiko, and having lunch and kicking back and talking music was all I needed — I knew he was the right guy."
In addition to Mustaine, Loureiro and Ellefson, MEGADETH's current lineup includes former SOILWORK drummer Dirk Verbeuren.
FEAR FACTORY guitarist Dino Cazares has uploaded a six-minute video of him breaking down the riff from the band's song "Replica", taken from the 1995 album "Demanufacture". Check it out below.
In a November 2018 interview, FEAR FACTORY singer Burton C. Bell said that the band had completed a new album tentatively titled "Monolith". He also said that "legal technicalities" needed to be sorted out before the record could be released. The effort, which is expected to once again be made available via Nuclear Blast, will mark the Californian band's first collection of new music since 2015's "Genexus" LP.
Back in May 2017, Bell told the Kilpop web site that the positive reaction to "Genexus" had "absolutely" inspired him and his bandmates to try to top it with their upcoming effort. "It was such a great response," he said. "Putting out that record was just positive all the way around, which just makes us drive even further and drive even harder. Now we've been working on a new album. All the new songs, I say, in my opinion, are even stronger than 'Genexus', 'cause it just seems even more tight. We're on a groove, and it's kicking ass."
In 2016, FEAR FACTORY completed a U.S. headlining tour on which it performed its classic second album, "Demanufacture", in its entirety.
FEAR FACTORY was the subject of breakup rumors in May 2017 when the band's former bassist-turned-guitarist Christian Olde Wolbers posted a since-deleted eulogy for FF on his Instagram. He wrote "RIP Fear Factory" and appended that post with the hashtag #GrownAssMenThatCantWorkOutShit.
Earlier this month, Cazares announced that he was looking for a singer for a new project in the style of FEAR FACTORY and his other band, DIVINE HERESY.
GODSMACK has released the official music video for its latest single "Unforgettable", taken from the band's most recent album, "When Legends Rise".
With music programs continuing to be at risk in schools across the U.S., it was important for the band — Sully Erna (vocals, guitar), Tony Rombola (guitar), Robbie Merrill (bass) and Shannon Larkin (drums) — to make a video about the power of music to uplift lives. They invited more than 400 aspiring musicians from all over New England to join them at the SNHU Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire for the shoot.
The "Unforgettable" video — directed by Noah Berlow — culminates a two-year process where the band involved students, starting with the recording of the song when 20 students joined them in the studio to provide vocals on the chorus. These same students were also invited to perform the song live onstage with GODSMACK at their show in Gilford, New Hampshire on August 22, 2018 at the Bank of New Hampshire Pavilion. Earlier this year, the band returned to the Gilbert H. Hood Middle School and enlisted students to rehearse with them the day before the shoot to prepare them for the filming. As part of the band’s visit, Sully talked to the students about his life — the challenges, blending in, how music saved him — and encouraged the young musicians to continue to pursue their dreams.
"We took these middle school students on a two-year long journey to show them how important music truly is to us all," Sully says. "Throughout 2018, we continued to include these kids in all aspects of the process by showing up at their school and personally teaching them the song, including them joining part of our world tour inviting them to perform live onstage with us, taking them to NYC to further educate them on the business side of the music industry, visiting them at their schools to talk to them about the gift of music, and ultimately inviting them to shoot their first 'official music video' with the band."
"Unforgettable" comes on the heels of last year's career first for the band when they scored three No. 1 singles from their latest album, "When Legends Rise". It follows "Under Your Scars", which was the group's third No. 1, and the album's two previous tracks that were No. 1 active rock hits: "When Legends Rise" and "Bulletproof", the latter of which was certified gold in the U.S. and was also the most-played song at rock radio in 2018.
"When Legends Rise" marks GODSMACK's seventh studio album and its first in four years. The critically acclaimed 11-song collection entered the Billboard Top 200 album chart in the top ten (No. 8), with four No. 1 placements on other charts: Top Rock Albums, Top Hard Music Albums, Top Independent Albums and Top Alternative Albums. The album finds the guys doubling down on their combination of tightly wound riffs, rhythmic fury, naked emotions and pushed-to-the-edge vocals, all fired up with melodic precision and tight songcraft.
Charlie Benante (ANTHRAX), Scott Ian (ANTHRAX) and Dan Lilker (NUCLEAR ASSAULT, ex-ANTHRAX) have shared a "quarantine version" of the STORMTROOPERS OF DEATH instrumental song "March Of The S.O.D.", recorded with each member separated in their own homes.
Benante uploaded a video of the performance to his YouTube channel, writing in an accompanying message: "A message from Sgt. D — Quaran-fuckin-tine or you’re on my list. You're welcome, Sgt. D"
Sgt. D was the mascot of the satirical 1980s metal band STORMTROOPERS OF DEATH (a.k.a. S.O.D.), which consisted of Ian (guitar), Benante (drums), Lilker (bass) and M.O.D.'s Billy Milano (vocals).
STORMTROOPERS OF DEATH are commonly credited as being among the first bands to fuse hardcore punk with thrash metal into a style sometimes called "crossover thrash." The track "March Of The S.O.D." from the group's debut LP, "Speak English Or Die", was the "Headbangers Ball" intro song for many years.
STORMTROOPERS OF DEATH was formed shortly after Ian finished his guitar tracks on the ANTHRAX album "Spreading The Disease". He would draw pictures of the face of a character known as "Sargent D," and the pictures would be accompanied by slogans such as "I'm not racist; I hate everyone" and "Speak English Or Die." Ian would then wrote lyrics about this character. He decided to form a hardcore band based on Sargent D, so he recruited Benante, Lilker and Milano.
The 30th-anniversary edition of "Speak English Or Die" was made available in November 2015 via Megaforce. The set included the original album as well as the demo recordings from the pre-STROMTROOPERS OF DEATH project CRAB SOCIETY NORTH.
Sammy Hagar and his CIRCLE bandmates Michael Anthony, Jason Bonham and Vic Johnson are using the coronavirus downtime to record music.
After previously connecting via their smartphones from four separate locations to record a brand new song titled "Funky Feng Shui", they have now regrouped — in a virtual sense — to cover THE WHO's iconic song "Won't Get Fooled Again". Check out video of the performance below.
SAMMY HAGAR & THE CIRCLE canceled its previously announced South American shows, which were scheduled to take place last month, due to the escalation of the new coronavirus (COVID-19).
At the moment, SAMMY HAGAR & THE CIRCLE is still scheduled to embark on a summer 2020 U.S. tour with NIGHT RANGER. WHITESNAKE recently pulled out of the trek so that frontman David Coverdale can undergo surgery for bilateral inguinal hernia.
SAMMY HAGAR & THE CIRCLE released their debut studio album, "Space Between", last May.
"The album is really about money, greed, enlightenment and truth," Hagar told Billboard about the LP's lyrical concept. "Money is not the problem. Money is beautiful; You can heal the sick, you can feed the poor, you can stop a war with money. It's greed that's the problem. So you shouldn't hate somebody just 'cause they're rich, especially if they didn't fuck anybody out of (the money) and if they do something good with it. Go guys like Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, you can't be mad at them for being so rich. These guys build hospitals, build schools for children and other countries. Those are good guys. That's what you can do with money."

SHINEDOWN guitarist Zach Myers has paid tribute to singer-songwriter Bill Withers, who died a week ago from heart complications. He was 81 years old.
Earlier today, the SHINEDOWN social media shared a video of Myers performing his acoustic rendition of Withers's song "Use Me" at home in Memphis.
Myers said in a statement accompanying the clip: "This was one of the first songs I ever played on stage... Bill Withers was a staple for me growing up and in adulthood. He will be sorely missed."
Withers was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2015. He won a Grammy Award for "Best R&B Song" in 1972 for "Ain't No Sunshine". That same year, "Lean On Me" went to No. 1 on the R&B chart.
Withers's music has been covered by BLACKSTREET, Will Smith, BLACK EYED PEAS Twista and numerous others artists.
On Friday, Sammy Hagar shared a video of him performing an acoustic version of "Ain't No Sunshine" as a tribute to Withers. Over the weekend, PAPA ROACH frontman Jacoby Shaddix followed with his a cappella rendition of "Lean On Me".
Also mourning Bill's death was Lenny Kravitz, who tweeted: "Rest in power Bill Withers. Your voice, songs, and total expression gave us love, hope, and strength. My soul always has & always will be full of your music. Your humility displayed & depth of your power as you carried us all to a better place. You're still & always will be Bill."

Toronto based rock band One In The Chamber has released the official music video for "Blow". "Blow" sees One In The Chamber return to Toronto's Phase One Studios (Rush, Alice Cooper, The Tragically Hip) with producer Murray Daigle and engineer Mike Smith at the helm.
"When I see a band live, I want to leave feeling like they have left their heart and soul onstage. I want energy, passion, and raw emotion to flow out of every note they play. I want to connect with this band in a way that leaves me with a high, and lingers long after they walked off stage. This is what One In The Chamber gives you every night. This is what “Blow” gives you every second," says One In The Chamber.
The single is the latest release from One In The Chamber, following their 2019 music video for "Itchin' Back" and is their first new track since I’ve Got Something To Say…, their award winning, 2018 debut studio EP. Furthermore, the music video sees the band reunite with Director Diego del Río and Video Producer Kathleen Fobert to deliver a modern, neon haze visual that pairs perfectly with the studio recording.
One In The Chamber is Toronto's answer to the new wave of rock 'n roll driven by the likes of Greta Van Fleet, Blacktop Mojo, Dirty Honey, The Wild, and Them Evils. Entirely independent, One In The Chamber is best enjoyed at 11.

Baroness has shared a new video for the song “Tourniquet”. Dubbed “Tourniquet (Socially Distant)” the footage features the four band members playing the six-and-a-half minute song at their respective homes, showcasing the band’s ability to both socially isolate and come together to share the message of unity amidst the COVID-19 crisis.
The band issued a collective comment: “Hey everyone! Here’s an as-live-as-possible performance of ‘Tourniquet’ that we made over the course of a couple days during this period of isolation. We have all maintained a rigid policy of social-distancing since becoming aware of this pandemic; which has unfortunately deprived us of our much preferred means of playing music. Throughout this crisis, the overall safety and responsibility of our global human community far outweighs the individual value of any show, festival or tour. We’re refocusing and redoubling our energy to adapt to this situation as it unfolds. As difficult as it seems to navigate the effects of this virus, the isolation has not stripped us of our passion for Baroness’ music. Playing music so far from our bandmates will never be particularly natural. However, the experience of making this video through emails, texts and phone calls has been a powerful reminder of how inspiring and invigorating music can be in times of stress, struggle and confusion. We hope you enjoy this performance. It isn’t meant to highlight musical perfection or precision. Personally, it serves as a reminder that, no matter what situation we face, we are still able to enjoy friendship, family and community through something as simple as a song. Isolated but never alone… Baroness.”
The video closes with a message to fans: “Be safe. Be good to each other. Act with personal and civic responsibility. We’ll see you again soon.”
“Tourniquet” is featured on the album Gold & Grey, which arrived in June of 2019. The 17-track release debuted atop Billboard’s Hard Rock Albums Sales and Independent Albums’ Charts. Baroness has taken fans behind-the-scenes into the making of the Dave Fridmann (The Flaming Lips, At War With The Mystics) produced album, releasing an 11-part web series dubbed Making Gold & Grey.
The Grammy Award nominated Baroness is: John Baizley (vocals/guitar), Gina Gleason (guitar), Nick Jost (bass) and Sebastian Thomson (drums).
"We assure you, this was filmed ages ago, before any quarantine! No monkeys were harmed. No viruses spread. Not even a vegetarian was offended. Stay safe, rejoice responsibly and see ya down the line. DP.”
This from Dublin-based hard rock trio, Dirty Power, who in times of gig cancellations and uncertainty throughout both the music industry and the world, have taken the opportunity to send out some digital cheer, releasing earlier than expected their latest track, "Oh God", newcomer to the bands 2018 EP Notions.
Influenced by gloriously timeless ‘legacy acts’, Dirty Power are driven by an independent DIY punk ethic, in everything from the writing, recording and release process, to approaching performing and touring. They stick to doing what they want to do, and do it their own way. Dirty Power is an ever evolving collective of musicians, and "Oh God" is their 2020, gorilla reincarnation.
Think Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Audioslave and Rage Against The Machine, all in one giant melting pot of influence yet creative originality. Having taken to the stage internationally, the live scene is where Dirty Power’s music really comes alive, but since the unfortunate cancellation of their recent London show (curated by Camden Rocks) due to the worldwide pandemic, amongst other engagements, Dirty Power have taken to the net to dish out one giant “clean elbow wave” in the form of "Oh God". And rest assured, when the live scene is back in action, so will Dirty Power be… Expect ‘Fist-pumping, cathartic, mosh-pit-rock for the mind’ and ‘Heavy rock riffs, big grooves, with tricky solos and sing-along choruses’.
"Oh God", available to download via Bandcamp only, here. Watch the official music video below:

Currently in self-isolation like the rest of us (stay home), Devin Townsend has posted Part 11 in his ongoing Quarantine Project series along with the following message:
"Hey all, so things are a little crazy over the next few days. I'm working on some mixes and doing the streams, but I've got a lot that has come up on a personal side. Therefore, today is not a new song, but instead of live recording.
Here's a little oddity I unearthed recently from when Ché and I played a few Casualties Of Cool songs for the people at Warwick and Framus guitars in their booth at NAMM 2018.
Its maybe a little rough around the edges, but its still a cool vibe. At this point we were playing to the reel-to-reel machines without a band, doing a demo for some gear. They had filmed it, but that footage seems nowhere to be found, so here's just the audio. We played 'Daddy' and 'The Code'.
If you haven’t heard the record, I would suggest trying to find it online or something? Its really good. The album came out in 2014 I think, and since that time we’ve written…well… one song =) I like this project because its grimy, strange, and without pressure. Maybe when this virus takes a breather, we can try to write a few more…
Till then, enjoy today's Quarantine Project, and I'll see you tomorrow with some more goodies."

One of the great names in Brazilian metal, Lyria launched on its official YouTube channel the full Halloween show, held last year, via streaming for fans from all over the world. In view of the Coronavirus crisis, launching content like this is the incentive that the Brazilian band offers for lovers of metal and good music to stay at home, and preserve the health of the most fragile.
“As we haven't been able to perform the show online yet, due to the current situation, we had a live chat with the whole band answering questions from the fans and released the Halloween online show so that people get a taste of the live music and can have fun a little while they are at home,” says Aline Happ, lead singer of Lyria.
Recorded in November 2019, the show brings to the setlist songs known to the public, such as “The Rain”, “Jester” and “Last Forever”, which has just won a video and already exceeds 105 thousand views in less than a month of release. Other songs performed are “Follow The Music”, “Get What You Want” and “Best of Me”.
Lyria is a Brazilian alternative symphonic metal band, formed by Rod Wolf (guitar), Thiago Zig (bass) and Thiago Mateu (drums), in addition to Aline. Since 2012 on the road, they have become known in Brazil and in the world, mainly in Europe and the United States, after the release of Catharsis, debut album in 2014. Currently, they continue promoting the album Immersion (2018).
