VAN HALEN Reportedly Taps Producer ROSS HOGARTH For New Album

According to Melodicrock.com, VAN HALEN's long-awaited new studio album is being produced by Ross Hogarth, who has previously worked with MÖTLEY CRÜE, COAL CHAMBER, FASTER PUSSYCAT and DEVILDRIVER, among others. Hogarth wrote in an early July online posting, "The record I just started ROCKS!!! [It] will be amazing... That is all I will say..."

HEAVEN & HELL: Full \'Children Of The Sea\' Performance From \'Neon Nights\' DVD Available

On November 16, Eagle Rock will unveil HEAVEN & HELL "Neon Nights". This DVD and CD release captures the historic four-man army performing at the Wacken Open Air festival on July 30, 2009. Check out an e-card for the effort at this location.

HEAVEN & HELL's full-song performance of the BLACK SABBATH classic "Children Of The Sea" — taken from the "Neon Nights" DVD — can be viewed below. (Note: A two-minute clip of this same track was previously released.)

On this hot summer night, vocalist Ronnie James Dio, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Vinny Appice commanded the stage, transcending the mere concept of a heavy metal concert. The strength and veracity of Dio's delivery, which has inspired three generations of metal vocalists, wrapped itself around each and every audience member. JUDAS PRIEST To Tour The World In 2011

JUDAS PRIEST guitar legend K.K. Downing has checked in with the following band update:

"It seems that the time has come for us to put the touring wheels in motion for our next world tour in 2011!

It's funny but these days around - about this time - I can't help but reflect on the past when we had to load the touring van ourselves. Sometimes in the ice and snow, being afraid that we would get frostbites on our fingers and not be able to play the gig!

I remember one winter we had a gig at Hull City Hall in England. We were driving in heavy snow when we hit black ice and the car hit the motorway barriers so hard that it was never able to be driven again. However, it was fortunate that a passing farmer saved the day by letting us pile into his old Land Rover and was kind enough to drive us to the gig!

It seems just like yesterday, as they say, that we were on tour with our good friends BUDGIE, ACCEPT, WARLOCK, AC/DC, SAXON, PANTERA... to name just a few. Very good memories indeed!

Actually, I have just received a copy of Accept's new album Blood of the Nations. And was really happy that Wolf and the boys are still creating great classic metal. I think it was back in '81 that Priest and Accept hit the road together for the first time and what a great tour that was! I really hope that we can meet up with the guys next year, at least on some of the festival dates and have a good laugh
when talking about the old times.

It was our great fortune, as time passed, to go on and tour with almost every band that you can think of. Some tours included very cool line-ups that many people may not even be aware of: e.g. Priest, WHITESNAKE and IRON MAIDEN / PRIEST, SCORPIONS and DEF LEPPARD / Priest and UFO... and the list goes on.

People often ask me what it's like to be on a tour and I always say the same things about it: simply it's the hardest thing that you will ever do, but you wouldn't change it for the world. The travelling becomes such a major part of your life that you actually feel like a piece of luggage yourself! But I must confess when you get to go to places that you have never been before like Korea, Turkey, Romania, Columbia etc. it's no surprise that you feel like the luckiest man alive. I guess mainly because for me - growing up as a kid - thinking of going to any of these places would have been pure fantasy.

I would like to end this blog by taking this opportunity to congratulate Jukka and Teija who are to be married this weekend in Finland. Jukka and Teija first met at Jari's 40th birthday party. Jukka, guitarist for Priest tribute band PRIESTONE, was also at the party to play some Priest songs with the guys. It's so amazing that the happy couple who live 250 miles apart would most likely never have met if the 'Priest Connection' had not been in place... so I guess you could say that the Priest well and truly worked it's magic!"

OBSCURA Completes Work On New Album; Track Listing Revealed

Progressive death metal act OBSCURA will release its new album, "Omnivium", in March 2011 via Relapse Records. The nine-track CD was recorded and mixed at Woodshed Studio in southern Germany with engineer Victor Bullok (a.k.a. V. Santura) of TRIPTYKON and DARK FORTRESS.

HEATHEN BEAST Reveal New Album Artwork, Tracklisting

Indian back metal has a new face in the form of HEATHEN BEAST, who are all set to release their debut EP - titled Ayodhya Burns - on November 26th.

Unlike regular black metal bands who follow anti-Christian or satanic themes, Heathen Beast follows the path of atheism and subjects related to India and its culture. The EP is a tribute to all Indians who have lost their lives in the name of religion. The EP will be available for free download on the band's Reverbnation page and also available on a limited edition CD (200 copies) version for any fans that would like to own a copy.

Former CRIMSON GLORY/LEATHERWOLF Singer Working On BLACK REIGN Debut

Vocalist Wade Black (LEATHERWOLF, CRIMSON GLORY, SEVEN WITCHES) is working on the debut album from his BLACK REIGN project, which also features Rick Renstrom (ROB ROCK, LEASH LAW, TIWANAKU) on guitar and Rich Marks on bass. A drummer for the group has not yet been announced. Entitled "Conflict In Creation", the CD will feature "12 brand new tracks that tie into an exciting story using historic and fictional themes," according to a press release. Two of the songs — "Saviour" and "Reaction" — are now available for streaming on the BLACK REIGN MySpace page.

AMON AMARTH Recording New Album

Swedish Viking metallers AMON AMARTH have issued the following update:

The last couple of months we have been busy working on our follow-up to 'Twilight Of The Thunder God'. Ten songs were written and on October 1 we started tracking drums for the album in Park Studios. After a short trip to Tokyo, which included our first-ever show in Japan at the renowned Loud Park festival, we continued tracking bass and guitars at Fascination Street studios. Recordings have been going well and we are now more than half way through and the album starts to take shape. We'll keep you updated with more info soon!

SEBASTIAN BACH Arrested, Charged With Assault

According to QMI Agency, former SKID ROW singer Sebastian Bach was charged with assault after a wine glass was smashed at a downtown Peterborough, Ontario, Canada bar and a staff member was bitten, police say.

Police said a man was at Riley's Old Towne Pub early Monday morning when he got into a dispute with the staff and was asked to leave at 12:02 a.m.

He walked to the door carrying a glass of wine, police said, and when he was told he couldn't leave with it he threw it at the front doors, shattering the glass.

Police said a staff member restrained him until officers arrived, and while they waited a scuffle ensued and the man bit him on his left hand.

When officers searched him they found 1.95 grams of marijuana.

Bach, 42, has been charged with assault, possession of marijuana and mischief.

Don Peat of the Toronto Sun reports that Toronto Police are on their way to Peterborough, Ontario, Canada to arrest former SKID ROW frontman Sebastian Bach on a six-year-old warrant.

Const. Tony Vella said the warrant for Bach stems from a mischief under $5,000 charge.

Police did not have any other information about the charge.

Bach will likely be brought back to 51 Division Monday night and appear in a College Park courtroom on Tuesday.

Bach was busted by Peterborough Lakefield Community Police early Monday after an altercation at a downtown bar.

BATTLELORE: New Album Details Revealed

Finnish fantasy metallers BATTLELORE have completed work on their sixth full-length album, "Doombound", featuring 11 new songs, one of which is instrumental. The band's first conceptual effort features lyrics which "tell the story of J.R.R. Tolkien's tragic hero Túrin Turambar and his kin," according to a press release. "One of the songs is sung completely in Finnish in appreciation to BATTLELORE's beautiful home country Finland and Kalevala, the national Finnish epic. JON LORD Remembers DEEP PURPLE\'s First Manager

Tony Edwards, DEEP PURPLE's first manager, died on November 11 at The London Clinic at the age of 78.

Former DEEP PURPLE keyboardist Jon Lord has released the following statement via his official web site regarding Edwards' passing:

"A few days ago — fittingly, on Remembrance Day — I lost a friend. He was my manager from 1968 to 1976, my daughter Sara's Godfather and the man who was instrumental in helping me to realize, in 1969, the dream which defined my musical life — that of a Concerto for Group and Orchestra.

"Tony Edwards was a good man and a man also of deep-seated enthusiasms. He had a passion for, and a great interest in, DEEP PURPLE and its various members' careers, as well as a genuine enjoyment of the band's music. He was the reason that Ritchie [Blackmore] and I were able to get together at the end of 1967 and the sole reason too for our being able to form the band that changed our lives. Without him and this early financial and emotional support, there would have been no DEEP PURPLE. He was a rock and a firm foundation on which we could build our musical house. It still stands, and it stands as a monument to him."

Ottawa heavy metal band AGGRESSOR have released a new music video for their cover of THIN LIZZY's 'Cold Sweat'. This song appears on their new EP Staring Down At You which was officially released at a show they played with legendary Canuck speed metallers RAZOR in Toronto on November 12th.

A band update reads: "It has been a busy year for Aggressor with extensive Canadian and American touring and will only get busier with plans to release their new full length album Beyond All Reckoning in March 2011. The album release will be followed with a year of international touring so keep your eyes open for tour dates!"

AS WE FIGHT, THE PSYKE PROJECT Members Join Forces In EBOLA

Throughout the past 10 years, AS WE FIGHT and THE PSYKE PROJECT have put Denmark on the map with their energetic hardcore metal. Both bands came from the same scene, share the same love for music and possess a similar work ethic. A total of seven albums have been released so far and hundreds of concerts were played, all of which were met with international acclaim from critics and fans.

Now it is time for the Danish "enfants terrible" of metal to come together and jointly release a 2 x EP in the form of a full-length split release.

This type of release has not been seen before on the Danish metal scene, thus becoming the first of its kind in Denmark from two such established bands. The effort will also be the beginning of close collaboration in connection with future concerts.

The project will function under the name EBOLA, which from this date will serve as a platform for news, interviews, video teasers, studio reports, contests, tour plans, photos, etc.

A European release is set for March 21, 2011.

RALF SCHEEPERS Putting Finishing Touches On Solo Album

The forthcoming solo album from PRIMAL FEAR singer Ralf Scheepers is in the very final stages of production. Several very special guests appear on the effort, including "Metal" Mike Chlasciak (HALFORD), Kai Hansen (GAMMA RAY), Sander Gommans (AFTER FOREVER) and Magnus Karlsson (PRIMAL FEAR, ALLEN/LANDE). Powerhouse American vocalist Tim "Ripper" Owens (YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, JUDAS PRIEST, ICED EARTH) duets with Scheepers in the track "Remission Of Sin", Swedish multi-instrumentalist Snowy Shaw (THERION, DREAM EVIL, KING DIAMOND, DIMMU BORGIR) appears on drums and PRIMAL FEAR's Mat Sinner plays bass on the entire LP in addition to having produced the album. Achim Köhler (PRIMAL FEAR, AMON AMARTH, BRAINSTORM) is currently mixing the effort for a February 2011 release via Frontiers Records.

A PERFECT CIRCLE On \'Last Call With Carson Daly\': Interview, Performance Footage

Professionally filmed video footage of A PERFECT CIRCLE's November 9, 2010 concert at the Avalon in Los Angeles, California aired on this past Friday's (November 12) edition of episode of NBC-TV's "Last Call With Carson Daly". In addition, A PERFECT CIRCLE/TOOL/PUSCIFER frontman Maynard James Keenan was interviewed on the show. You can now watch both the performance and the interview below.

A PERFECT CIRCLE last week kicked off a tour of five cities, with each city save one getting a three-night stand. The band is playing each of its three studio albums — "Mer De Noms", "Thirteenth Step" and "eMOTIVe" — on a different night.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Keenan said about the decision to play small venues, "There's no way we're going to sell out arenas. We haven't been around for six years . . . These shows are going to be very small intimate theater gigs, basically just the five of us trying to connect with each other."

The cities the band will hit on this run are Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Phoenix and Las Vegas. The group will play just two nights in Vegas, dropping the "eMOTIVe" performance.

The 2010 lineup of A PERFECT CIRCLE includes Keenan, Howerdel, drummer Josh Freese, former SMASHING PUMPKINS guitarist James Iha and bassist Matt McJunkins.

Keenan said that former members Paz Lenchantin, Jeordie White and Troy Van Leeuwen have been invited to stop by the shows and play on a couple of songs.

A PERFECT CIRCLE currently does not have a record deal.

IRONWOOD: \'Storm Over Sea\' Album Details Revealed

Australian progressive folk metallers IRONWOOD have made two tracks from their new album, "Storm Over Sea", available for free digital download. "Share The Burden" and "Will To Live" can be downloaded via the band's web site as well as MySpace, Facebook, iLike, and ReverbNation pages.

"These two tracks represent the extremes that IRONWOOD runs to," explained vocalist/bassist Henry Lauer, "from pastoral folk through to crushing metal. We've sought to capture every one of the ocean's moods with our new album!"

THE CULT: \'White\' Live Recording Free Download Available

Legendary rock band THE CULT is offering a free download of the track "White", recorded live in Houston, Texas on October 1, 2010. The remastered cut is a preview of "Capsule 2: New Blood Deep Cuts", which features new songs "Embers" and "Until The Light Takes Us", live recordings of some of the band's huge hits and an intimate look into THE CULT's rehearsal space, with a never-before-seen warm-up performance of "Black Angel".

On the heels of their wildly successful Love Live Tour celebrating their 1985 groundbreaking album, THE CULT kicked off a new run of U.S. dates on their L'America Tour on October 28 in Chicago. U.K. dates begin January 18, 2011 in Leeds. Fans are afforded the unique opportunity of leaving the venue each night after a THE CULT concert with a full recording of the show on a USB flash drive — to relive each incendiary moment.

Hexvessel is the work of Mathew "Kvohst" McNerney, as being 'a holy body or host carrier of spectres, magic spells and rituals'. The debut release, Dawnbearer, is spiritual rite of passage, an attempt to re-awaken the inner self and reach enlightenment through the powers of psychedelic folk music. Channeling and confronting demons of the past, from a strict Catholic upbringing, to his formative years living in Norwegian Lapland and cutting his teeth singing for Satanic Blackmetal bands. With an installed appreciation of 60s Canterbury folk from his childhood growing up England, Negro Spiritual Church hymns mix with themes of the occult, Crowleyan magick and Haitian voodoo.

Inviting select underground artists to participate on the record, he collaborated with Norwegian dark tango/folk musicians from Krugers Medbragte and Jaime Gomez Arellano from experimental avant-prog bands such as Mothlite, Guapo & who has previously carried out production work on Miasma And The Carousel of Headless Horses and Ulver. The album also features a guest vocal performance by Carl-Michael Eide aka Czral from progressive rock weirdos Virus and original hand-drawn artwork by Finland's godfather of doom, Albert Witchfinder.

A personal and intensely dark trip of unusual compositions, using organically recorded instruments such as dulcimer, psaltery, sawblade, harmonium, zither, gongs, harp, mellotron, mandolin and bandoneon. ILLDISPOSED To Enter Studio In January

Danish extreme metallers ILLDISPOSED will enter the studio on January 8, 2011 to begin recording their as-yet-untitled new album for a March release via Massacre Records.

BLOODWRITTEN - New Album Now Available, Limited Edition Vinyl LP Version Due On November 25th

Polish blackened thrashers BLOODWRITTEN released their new album, Thrashin' Fury, on November 11th through Witching Hour Productions. The album was recorded in Sophiria Studio, and mastered by Szymon Czech (NYIA, THIRD DEGREE). Cover artwork was designed Ataman Tolovy (STILLBORN). The album is released in digipak format with 12-page booklet, it is available for order here.

A limited edition hand numbered LP version with blooded-colored transparent vinyl, limited to 333 copies, will be issued on November 25th.

According to a press release, Bloodwritten was founded by Bastard and Thanathos in Warsaw, in 1997. They started as black metal band, inspired by occult, magic, and Lovecraft stories. Bloodwritten's style is speed thrash metal, with black and death metal influences and the band have just finished work on their second full-length release.

VENGEFUL Recording 22 Songs

Montreal, Quebec, Canada-based band VENGEFUL is entering the studio today (Monday, November 15) with producer Chris Donaldson (CRYPTOPSY, THE LAST FELONY, NEURAXIS) to begin recording its third album for an early 2011 release. Songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Delusional", "Malice", "Decay" and "Distant Exit".

Commented the band: "After seven years, the vision behind VENGEFUL's sound is now clearer than ever before and this next recording shall establish it once and for all.

"We've got 22 songs to record in one week. Why 22? More on that later too...
