KONKHRA: In Writing Mode
Danish extreme metallers KONKHRA have issued the following update:
"We are working on new songs. We started writing around February 1 and we already have 10 new songs/ideas, so it should be no problem to record sometime during the summer.
"The new shit is simpler in some ways, or maybe we just got more fine-tuned between us so the stuff seems more fluent and the lyrical content is almost channeled immediately into the song structure. Maybe last year's visits to places like Mont Segur, Rennes Le Chateau, or Munich inspired this next release, or maybe the initiation process between The Masters Column and The Apprentices Column worked wonders fore there seems to be a natural flow of essence as if all we are and ever will be is predestined or at least preordained.
"Art is still but an Imitation of Life, lest we forget we are standing on the shoulders of Giants, or humbly trek through reptile footprints in our evolutionary path.
"A selection of new working song titles include:
* Babylon
* Thoth
* I Am Ra (The Law Of One)
* Divine Wind
* Suffer The Race
* Doctrines Of Death
* Alpha And The Omega
"In other news, we have been approached about making a video for 'Breathe The Fear' [from 2008's 'Nothing Is Sacred']. This might be going down the spring. We will keep you posted." | 0

ATROCITY Guitarist Issues New Album Update
Germany's ATROCITY is recording a new CD which is described as "a project album" featuring frontman Alex Krull's sister Yasmin.
Commented ATROCITY guitarist Thorsten Bauer: "Recording this album was an adventure and a lot of fun at the same time.
"To create a kind of ethno metal sound, I used some pretty exotic lute and sitar tunings on the acoustic guitar in combination with the well known heavy guitar power ATROCITY usually stands for. These two different streams of guitar styles and sounds melt together in a pretty exciting way on the new album. In addition to that, 12-string guitars and flamenco fingerpicked guitars give this new ATROCITY record a handmade, unique and unheard sound and thrilling atmosphere.
"I am very satisfied with the outcome of this album and I think it will be one of the most creative and colourful albums of our career so far."

SKUNK ANANSIE Recording New Album
Drummer Mark Richardson of the reunited '90s British rockers SKUNK ANANSIE has issued the following update:
"In January of 2010 we (the freshly reformed SKUNK ANANSIE) got together to start writing a new record after almost 10 years in the wilderness. Hoorah!
"After six weeks of a daily commute to Hackney from Guildford (which involved car to the station, train to Waterloo, two tube lines, a bus and a five-minute walk) we had come the end of the writing process and whittled 80 ideas down to 25 songs.
"I love the process of song writing in SKUNK. We all bring ideas to the table and can fling them in no matter what they are, melodies, lyrics, drums and bass and guitar lines are all up for debate.
"You'd think it would take an age to get anything done being so democratic but not when everybody is of the same mind, i.e. if it's a great idea it'll get in.
"You can't be shy about putting ides forward or hurt if they don't get used but it's the best way to really maximise the best of everybody's talent and it really really works. As you'll hear on the record.
"From there we had to get really ruthless with ourselves, put any personal attachment to any songs to one side and just choose the best darn songs. 25 became 15 became 14 as we were to lose one later on, too.
"No room for any fillers on this record. We can't afford it.
"10 years away is a massive amount of time in a business which has accelerated rate of disposability, and we have a lot of catching up to do.
"As I write we are in week 3 day 3 of a seven-week recording process with Chris Sheldon at the helm for 10 of the tracks and then Jeremy Wheatley for the remaining four. I have finished all my drum tracks with Chris and have started on some of the programming aspects that will go underneath some of the songs to really make them lift, chug, wallop and propel them along.
"After our 'Smashes and Trashes' greatest-hits tour comes to an end in September, the record will be out and we'll be straight back on the road to do a huge European tour in support of it.
"I hope you love listening to it as much as I loved recording it.
"This is a really different record for us and I'm already extremely proud of what we've achieved just in terms of the songs. It's really shaping up to be something special, but then I would say that."

MELECHESH Preparing To Enter Studio
Sumerian thrashing black metal act MELECHESH will enter Babajim Studios in Istanbul, Turkey on April 10 to begin recording its as-yet-untitled fifth album for a summer release via Nuclear Blast Records.
Commented mainman Ashmedi: "We have been looking for a place to record that can offer us an inspiring surrounding. We also decided to stay true to our spirits, to break the mold (again) and also to defy the norm, hence we will record in Istanbul.
"You see, the norm is to record westwards. It is rather customary. [However] we want to head eastwards. So, Istanbul seemed the best place since this is the city where the east and west meet, mesh, clash, blend, collide etc. and has been as such for milleniums.
"The music is definitely MELECHESH and as always, this album has its own characteristic."
MELECHESH is currently in rehearsal mode, with guitarist Moloch scheduled to arrive in Amsterdam next week from Virginia. | 0

AUGURY - \"We\'re Not Just Progressive, Aggressive And Complex\"
MetalAssault.com recently caught up with AUGURY guitarist Patrick Loisel. An excerpt from the interview is available below.
Q: What appeals most to you about this progressive/technical death metal genre?
Patrick: "I wouldn't say that progressive metal appeals to me. It's about the feeling of songs and some of them happen to be progressive. Others appear to be very dumb and simple. We draw from different influences but we don't tell ourselves to write complex music. Even if we play a good simple riff, we keep it. The fact that this genre is not as appealing to people doesn't bother us because we are not really progressive from beginning to end. There are also easy listening parts that attract people, parts that we put near even our most progressive parts. We're not just progressive, aggressive and complex. There are moments in the songs that sound in another way. So we please everybody. The only thing we'll never do is glam rock. | 0

ANATHEMA: New Album Details Revealed
U.K.'s ANATHEMA will release its eighth studio album, "We're Here Because We're Here", on May 31 via Kscope Records.
"'We're Here Because We're Here' is ANATHEMA's most expansive album to date and by the far best thing we've ever done," comments ANATHEMA's Danny Cavanagh. "Not only have we improved as writers, but because we took our time, we had the opportunity to select the very best material and concentrate on it. We gave the songs the chance to breathe and come alive by themselves and it's ended up being magical — every song is as good as the rest of them. This album features the best performances by the band ever; Vincent's [Cavanagh] greatest vocals and John's [Douglas, drums] and my best writing."
ANATHEMA's Vincent Cavanagh goes further in explaining the origins of the album's enigmatic title: "The title 'We're Here Because We're Here' is inspired by a song that was first heard across the Allied trenches of World War One. Sung to the tune of 'Auld Lang Syne', the song served as a defiant rallying-call keeping up the morale of those who had to endure the incessant carnage and almost unimaginable horror. The spirit behind those words, and the deep questions they raised immediately struck all of us. Therefore we have appropriated these words to reflect the spirit and bond that all six members of the group have with each other. We have shared some incredible experiences, on all levels, and the fact that we have emerged stronger, more determined, and confident in our common vision is a testament to our resilience, both as individuals and collectively."
Danny continues: "The bond is deeper than the music and you might say the direction of music is a product of our connection to each other; a real family in every sense of the word."
With that in mind, the band has announced that John Douglas' sister Lee has joined the group on a full-time basis. She had this to say of her involvement: "It's great to be more involved musically, and I feel that my vocals are adding a new presence and depth to the dynamic of the group. I'm in it for the long haul, so bring it on!"
The self-produced album was mixed by Steven Wilson (PORCUPINE TREE) and features the exquisite string arrangements of Dave Stewart (STEWART/GASKIN, PORCUPINE TREE) and mastering skills of legendary Jon Astley (THE WHO, LED ZEPPELIN). The song "Angels Walk Among Us" features subtle backing vocals by Ville Valo of HIM.
"We're Here Because We're Here" ( Cover) track listing:
01. Thin Air
02. Summernight Horizon
03. Dreaming Light
04. Everything
05. Angels Walk Among Us
06. Presence
07. A Simple Mistake
08. Get Off, Get Out
09. Universal
10. Hindsight
ANATHEMA will play a short series of special concerts to coincide with the album release. Alongside shows in established ANATHEMA territories such as The Netherlands, Turkey and Russia, this spring tour will also see the band play its first-ever show in Bulgaria.

Manager: METALLICA Planning Stage Show To Rival PINK FLOYD\'s \'The Wall\'
According to U.K.'s Classic Rock magazine, METALLICA manager Peter Mensch has revealed the band has some major plans for 2011.
"Let's just say that next year you will see a METALLICA tour that will blow your mind. They will only play in 10 cities but it will be a huge undertaking. It will be METALLICA's equivalent of 'The Wall'."
This revelation came up when Classic Rock writer Peter Makowski interviewed Mensch for a feature about the most powerful men in rock and asked him to define his role as a manager.
Mensch replied: "Coming up with ideas so that the lives shows are interesting. Just shooting off dumb ideas and, by the way, between you and me, some of it is recycling stuff that people did 25 years ago but no one's smart enough to know that we recycled it.
"Saying something like: 'I have this idea for us to play an equivalent of 'The Wall'. So here's some ideas so we can get the professionals in to they can tell me if I'm crazy or not.' It's like plotting out a canvas so someone else can fill it in."
