LEAVES\' EYES Singer Completes Work On \'Skintight\' Solo Album
 Norwegian singer Liv Kristine Espenaes Krull (LEAVES' EYES, ex-THEATRE OF TRAGEDY) has completed work on her new solo album, "Skintight", due later in the year via Napalm Records. She states, "In January, the production at Mastersound Studio was completed and the artwork finished by Stefan Heilemann.
"It has been a fantastic experience to evolve during the recording process.
"Tori Amos gave me a lot of inspiration in the way she records her songs.
"My main aim is to release an album which goes directly under your skin, and into your hearts. Being authentic, but perhaps not flawless, is the philosophy I follow artistically. It is not necessary to tune and shape a singing voice when it comes from the heart, from deep within. This is why I chose the title 'Skintight'.
"Most recordings were done 'in one go,' i.e. record a complete song without breaks. Moreover, we've kept and paid attention to the natural processes which take place during singing, like breathing, movements of the lips, emotional expression and strength etc. All this makes the album authentic, real, and direct. The music is played with only a few, however, original instruments.
"[It is] a very down-to-earth album, and absolutely 'real,' like as if you were sitting next to me and I would sing a song to you.
"All songs have been written by Torsten Bauer, and myself. [Liv's husband] Alexander Krull [ATROCITY, LEAVES' EYES] produced the album.
"My lyrics tell about my childhood ('One of Them', 'Wonders'), and my observations of the fast, cold, superficial and grey society of the masses ('The Rarest Flower', 'Boy at the Window').
"'Skintight' is dedicated to the children of this world — our future. Children embody real, true and endless love; love towards nature, and love between human beings.
"This is an album which will open your hearts.

GRAND MAGUS: New Album Artwork, Track Listing Revealed
 GRAND MAGUS, the three-piece Swedish heavy rock band featuring "JB" Christofferson (guitar, lead vocals), Fox Skinner (bass, backing vocals) and Sebastian "Seb" Sippola (drums), will release its fifth album, "Hammer Of The North", this summer via Roadrunner Records. The CD was recorded at 301 studios outside of Stockholm and will feature artwork by Necrolord.
Commented JB: "Necrolord is a legend and has created some of the most striking and powerful images ever. He's also closely connected with Swedish metal. We just knew that he would deliver the perfect feel, mood and imagery for the new record. No one else would come close. It's an honor to have his artwork for 'Hammer Of The North'."

CADAVERIA Begins Recording New Album
 CADAVERIA, the Italian band featuring former OPERA IX vocalist Cadaveria and ex-OPERA IX drummer/NECRODEATH vocalist Marçelo Santos (a.k.a. Flegias), has entered the studio to begin recording its new album.
After performing live in Mexico at the end of June, CADAVERIA spent the second half of 2009 in the rehearsal room to complete the songwriting for its fourth full-length CD. The as-yet-untitled effort will contain eleven tracks and will be released in late 2010.
In January 2009, CADAVERIA announced the addition of Dick Laurent as the group's second guitarist. The new member's influence will be clearly felt in the new compositions which are described by singer Cadaveria as "heavy, obscure and insane."
Cadaveria recently made a guest appearance on Italian death metallers MECHANICAL GOD CREATION's new CD, performing backing vocals on the song "I Shall Remain Unforgiven".
Over the course of the last two years, Cadaveria worked concurrently on the project DYNABYTE. The industrial metal act has just finished mastering its new record that will be unleashed in June.

KINGDOM OF SORROW Completes Work On New Album
 KINGDOM OF SORROW, the metal project created by Jamey Jasta (HATEBREED) and Kirk Windstein (DOWN, CROWBAR), has completed work on its second album for a tentative June release via Relapse Records. The CD was mixed by Chris "Zeuss" Harris at Planet Z Recordings in Hadley, Massachusetts.
Commented Jasta: "I'm really excited about the KINGDOM OF SORROW album because I feel like I really went all out this time. I love the first album but I brought way better riffs to the table this time and really brought a different vocal style on a lot of tracks. I think this new album is much more memorable and that the songs are really catchy but still heavy and raw.

IMAGIKA: Entire New Album Available For Streaming
 "Portrait Of A Hanged Man", the new album from San Francisco Bay Area power/thrashers IMAGIKA, is available for streaming in its entirety at this location. Due in Europe on March 19 and in the U.S. on May 11 via Metalville, the CD was recorded at Fang Studios in San Mateo, California by IMAGIKA guitarist Steve Rice and was mixed at KING DIAMOND guitarist Andy La Rocque's Sonic Train Studios in Varberg, Sweden. In addition to mixing the effort, La Rocque makes a guest appearance on the instrumental "A God No More". Drummer Henry Moreno was once again responsible for designing all the art for the CD, which marks the recording debut of new bassist Jim Pegram.

CODE: \'Resplendent Grotesque\' To Receive Vinyl Release
 "Resplendent Grotesque", the second album from CODE — the British/Norwegian black metal project featuring bassist/backing vocalist Viper (a.k.a. Vicotnik from DHG), guitarist/songwriter Aort and vocalist Kvohst (DØDHEIMSGARD) — will finally see its long-overdue release on the hallowed vinyl format. It will be available in a few short weeks and feature "suitably glorious packaging," according to the band. More information will be made available soon.
"Resplendent Grotesque" was released on June 1, 2009. According to the band, the follow-up to 2005's "Nouveau Gloaming" contains "songs of necrospiritual dust and desertion, crafted by bony hands in blackbird gloves." Aort previously stated about the CD, "Adrian completely devastated the drums for this recording and Vicotnik has manageed to really outdo himself with his most inspired bass work yet. HUGHES, BONHAM, SHERINIAN, BONAMASSA Supergroup Makes Its Live Debut
 According to Nightwatcher's House Of Rock, the new supergroup featuring guitarist Joe Bonamassa, bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes (DEEP PURPLE, BLACK SABBATH, TRAPEZE), keyboardist Derek Sherinian (DREAM THEATER) and drummer Jason Bonham (LED ZEPPELIN, UFO, FOREIGNER) made a surprise debut appearance during the encore at Bonamassa's March 17 concert at the Riverside Municipal Auditorium in Riverside, California. The band performed two songs — "One Last Soul" and a cover of the DEEP PURPLE classic "Mistreated".

Former NEGATIVE Guitarist Resurfaces In THE SALVATION
 THE SALVATION is a group of well-known Finnish rockers who have been playing in different bands for a long time before joining forces in their current project. The group has been rehearsing for the last six months has a very energetic and powerful vibe after getting used to the new combination of personalities. Guitarist Sir Christus (ex-NEGATIVE) says the band is working on channeling their energy into the right things; it has taken some getting used to the new situation, but everything has been worked out under the name of rock 'n' roll.

PAIN OF SALVATION: \'Road Salt - Ivory\' Artwork Unveiled
 Sweden's PAIN OF SALVATION is tentatively scheduled to release its new album, "Road Salt - Ivory", in Europe on May 19 via Insideout Music. Frontman Daniel Gildenlöw previously stated about the CD, "It is a 12-track album of sweaty grovel, asphalt butterflies, untreaded paths and brave decisions. It will be presented to the world in one standard edition and one limited director's cut, of which we, of course, recommend the latter one."
He added, "See, as usual, we refuse to add some stuff haphazardly to put together a limited product — we always see the larger version as the 'real' one; the one that makes us the proudest."

PAIN OF SALVATION recently took part in the national Swedish competition for the Eurovision Song Contest, Melodifestivalen, with the band's very atmospheric rendition of the song "Road Salt".

QUEEN - Singles Collection Vol.3 Details
 The third installment of QUEEN: The Singles Collections, box three continues the story from the mid 1980s. Ultimately, the four boxes will offer every one of Queen’s singles to have made the top 40 anywhere in the world (with the exception of ‘Keep Yourself Alive’ which is included in Vol 1 because it was the first ever single).
Queen hit singles become a virtual certainty, with the release of each successive album, each one musically a departure from the last, and, significantly, featuring compositions from all four band members. Queen is to date the only group whose members have all written No. 1 hits around the world. Box 3 includes first single ‘A’ side to be written by all four members of the band: ‘One Vision’.
10 out of the 14 ‘A’ sides were top 10 singles worldwide and this set contains eight non studio album tracks.

HEIDEVOLK: Another New Song Posted Online
 Dutch folk metal six-piece HEIDEVOLK will release its new album, "Uit Oude Grond" ("From Old Soil"), on March 26 via Napalm Records.
"Uit Oude Grond" was recorded at S&K Studio in Doetinchem, Holland with producer Dick Kemper. 11 songs were laid down during the sessions "ranging from epic and solemn folk tunes to brutal and merciless metal riffs," according to a press release. The CD was mixed and mastered by Dick Kemper while Awik Balaian created the album artwork.

UNLEASHED: Another New Song Posted Online
 Another new UNLEASHED track, "This Time We Fight", is available for streaming on the band's MySpace page. The song comes off the Swedish death metal veterans' tenth full-length album, "As Yggdrasil Trembles", which is due on March 19 in Europe and April 6 in the U.S. via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was recorded at guitarist Fredrik Folkare's Chrome studio, and is "the logical continuation from 'Midvinterblot' [2006] and 'Hammer Battalion' [2008]," according to the group. "Lyrically, you will recognize what has become the UNLEASHED trademark since more than 20 years, the combination of the past, present and future of viking struggle and way of life. A few of the songs also mark the beginning of a story never before told."

EUROPE Guitarist JOHN NORUM To Release New Solo Album In May
 The long-awaited new solo album from EUROPE guitarist John Norum, entitled "Play Yard Blues", is scheduled for release on May 27 via Mascot Records. According to a press release, the CD is "full of steaming bluesy hard rock with great guitarwork and vocals."

Meanwhile, the second of guitarist Janne Stark's tributes to the Seventies was released on Grooveyard Records in February. The album, simply entitled "Volume Two", features John Norum showing his love for Frank Marino in a guitar-overdriven cover of "Talkin' 'bout A Feeling". | 0 | |

 German pagan metallers EQUILIBRIUM have announced the addition of an Israeli drummer called Hati to the group's ranks.
Stated Hati: "I feel extremely lucky and honored to play with EQUILIBRIUM. It's a dream come true for me and a great opportunity. And I would like to thank Nasha Nocturna for connecting us!"
Commented EQUILIBRIUM mainman René Berthiaume: "When we made officially announced being on the hunt for a drummer, we received lots of applications of really good drummers every day. We feel honoured also renowned artists were among them. Eventually we chose this guy from Israel. Hati has the ambition and the talent to kick major ass with us!"
EQUILIBRIUM recently announced the addition of vocalist Robse to the group's ranks.
The band is currently recording its new album, "ReKreatur", for a summer release.

GAMMA RAY Taps AMBERIAN DAWN Guitarist For German, Czech Dates
 German power metallers GAMMA RAY have tapped Kasperi Heikkinen of AMBERIAN DAWN and the Finnish GAMMA RAY tribute band GUARDIANS OF MANKIND as the temporary replacement for guitarist/keyboardist Henjo Richter, who underwent surgery on Tuesday (March 16) for a "retinal detachment."

BRING ME THE HORIZON Begins Recording New Album
 Sheffield, U.K. metallers BRING ME THE HORIZON have entered Studio Fredman in Västra Frölunda, Sweden with producer Fredrik Nordström (DIMMU BORGIR, IN FLAMES, HAMMERFALL) to begin recording their third album for an August release via Visible Noise.
Commented frontman Oli Sykes: "2009 was one hell of a year — non-stop for us, really! Our second album, 'Suicide Season', has taken us further than we ever thought was possible. I think we found our unique sound with that album and the next is going to be using 'Suicide Season' as a base, but pushing it further in every single way imaginable. It's happening with Fredrik Nordström again, since he made us sound so amazing last time."
On the subject of the recording itself, guitarist and resident Australian Jona Weinhofen adds: "We've spent the last few months writing new material for the third album and we are stoked as hell on what we've penned! This will also be my first recording with the band and I'm definitely excited to be working on something new and so different to my previous works.
"We've taken in a broad array of influences during the writing period and I think it will show on this album more than ever before. Fans can expect new ideas, experimentation and more adventurous production. We've really focused on our song structures and keeping the songs catchy and listenable. But don't freak out!  "Rush: Beyond The Lighted Stage" is the title of the long-awaited RUSH documentary produced by Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn of Toronto, Ontario, Canada's Banger Films Inc. which will receive a red-carpet premier at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York City on Saturday, April 24. All three members of RUSH — singer/bassist Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson and drummer Neil Peart — will be on hand for the event.

OPETH Frontman: \'It\'s Clear To Me That Some Have Yet To Understand What This Band Is About\'
 Guitarist/vocalist Mikael Åkerfeldt of Swedish progressive metallers OPETH has issued the following update:
"Quite interesting to see how diverse the reactions have been to our last song, 'The throat of Winter', that we recorded to be included on a disc coming with the 'God of War 3' game. Everything from 'loving it' to 'hating it' to juvenile 'meh' comments.
"I'm happy we've caused some reactions at least, rather raise a taste-agenda than a shrug.
"It's quite clear to me that some have yet to understand what this band is about. Some say the song doesn't 'fit' the game, as if we'd ever, in our career, been interested in fitting in. Sorry! I was asked to write an OPETH song, and that's what I did. Couldn't care less if we fit in or not.
"At this point I'm complete and utterly bored with new streamlined music. Bored to tears by conventional metal arrangements. I think the future album will be more or less devoid of any fluid writing. It will be all over the place I guess, because that's what I and ultimately OPETH as a band find interesting these days. I want it to be fucked up! I've written a 10-minute-plus piece so far and it's miserable sounding (in a good way, for me at least) and quite disturbing. Don't know whether it will make the final cut, but it's certainly set the tone for what type of music I want to write right now.
"I can't foresee what you as 'fans' will think of anything we put out anymore. I stopped wondering after 'Damnation' got hate-bombed, so we'll just have to wait and see I guess.
"I certainly appreciate all your support during the years. Sorry I can't commit to pleasing you all, but as we all know it simply doesn't work like that.
"I'm happy, just wrote some lovely music with a friend and it opened my eyes somewhat. This music might come across as un-focused, but it's really crystal clear.
"20th anniversay shows are round the corner. We're rehearsing and it's quite fun (for a change), been revisiting some old material and it sounds just 'right!' Looks like all six shows will sell out, which is nice… Four have sold out already. Appreciate that you wanna come and see us. What was going to be a quiet celebration in a pub escalated to six of the biggest shows we've ever done on our own. I mean, it's the fucking Royal Albert Hall, among others. Stupid!!

Black Metal Meets Nude Photography
 Using the momentum from the release of the almost-sold-out successful "Bring The Noise" photo book, which is a collection of band photography, photographer Jeremy Saffer sets his lens on a slightly different subject…
Combining his favorite sub genre of metal (black metal), along with his career-long work in fine art nude photography, Saffer has been shooting content for a new book and calendar series.
"For those who know me or follow my work, I work mostly with bands, and dabble in some fine-art photography, and being that black metal has had the longest tenure as my favorite genre in metal, it made sense to some how cross the paths of my work," he says.
"I am shooting this project in a few ways. I am shooting fine-art and fashion style nude images with corpse paint — very elegant, standard poses…but also shooting very metal/creepy poses — so there's a good mix of traditional and non-traditional posing for both genres."

SONIC SYNDICATE: \'We Rule The Night\' Track Listing Revealed
 Swedish/British modern metallers SONIC SYNDICATE will release their new album, "We Rule The Night", in Europe on May 28 via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD was recorded at Bohus Sound studios in Kungälv, Sweden and was mixed at Paramount Studios in North Hollywood, California by producer Toby Wright, who has previously worked with KORN, SLAYER, MÖTLEY CRÜE, KISS, FEAR FACTORY, IN FLAMES, STONE SOUR and OZZY OSBOURNE, among others.
Commented the band: "'We Rule the Night' is a result of everything that SONIC SYNDICATE has been and has become.
"When [British singer] Nathan [James Biggs; formerly of THE HOLLOW EARTH THEORY] joined the band in 2009, a fire ignited and everything just felt truly natural for the first time in many ways.
