CHIMAIRA Drummer Offering Lessons Via SKYPE
Drummer Andols Herrick of Cleveland, Ohio metallers CHIMAIRA will be testing out teaching drum lessons via Skype over the next two weeks, and again after the band's upcoming tour in the U.K. with TRIVIUM. This is a chance for beginner-to-intermediate-level drummers all over the world to work one-on-one with Andols from wherever is convenient for you!
The lessons will be similar to the in-person ones done in Cleveland — usually split between focusing on hands and focusing on the whole kit (or just kick drum pads, if noise is a problem). As long as you have either a webcam or a built-in one on your laptop, all you have to do is download Skype and the video to video interaction doesn't cost anything.
If you're interested, please contact Andols at drummerandolsherrick@yahoo.com. Be sure to add him on Twitter, Facebook and MySpace for updated information on this and other projects as well. | 0

AEON: New Album Title Announced
Swedish death metallers AEON have set "Path Of Fire" as the title of their third album, due later in the year via Metal Blade Records. The CD was recorded in September 2009 at Empire Studio in Östersund, Sweden and was mixed the following month at Mana Recording Studios in St, Petersburg, Florida by Erik Rutan (HATE ETERNAL, MORBID ANGEL, CANNIBAL CORPSE). The mastering was handled by Alan Douches at West West Side Music (CONVERGE, HATEBREED, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN) in New Windsor, New York. All artwork and layout was made by Daniel Dlimi.
Commented the band: "'Path of Fire' is probably the most intense AEON album up to date. And with a production that sounds more organic and 'classic death metal'- sounding rather then the nowadays typical 'supermodern, compressed right-the-fuck-out of dynamics, loudness war' production….
"You are all in for a real treat. Folks…. this IS death metal!
"Needless to say, we are really happy with how the album turned out and and we can't wait for you to get a chance to listen to it." | 0

TRIVIUM Frontman Says Drummer TRAVIS SMITH Was Fired Over The Phone
Guitarist/vocalist Matt Heafy of Florida metallers TRIVIUM spoke to AOL's Noisecreep about the departure of drummer Travis Smith and addition of Travis' replacement, former drum tech Nick Augusto (MARUTA).
Augusto was introduced to TRIVIUM fans when he filled in behind the kit on last fall's "Into the Mouth of Hell We Tour" trek.
Smith sat out the second leg of the tour in order to take care of "some personal business" at home.
"We were coming to the point where the band was — not necessarily dissolving — but dissolving in creativity and maybe in live fire and energy, so we had to make a change for the positive," Heafy told Noisecreep. "Thankfully, we were able to find Nick, who was able to step it up and really be that guy to take us to the next level."
He added, "We told [Travis] over the phone [that we were continuing with Augusto] and it was hard for everyone involved. But I hope it's going to be something Travis recognizes was for the better for him in years to come. For his own health and well-being as well and for our own. I heard that he's doing very well now and that's the best you can wish for. And we hope he does amazingly, no matter what he picks in life to do next."

"At the moment we are at the Helion Studios in Munich recording our third album which is planned to be released in June. As of now, we can tell you that it will be heavy, epic, bombastic, emiotional and full of musical surprises!

CAVALERA CONSPIRACY To Enter Studio In April
Former SEPULTURA members Max (guitar, vocals) and Igor Cavalera (drums) will return to the studio in April 2010 to begin recording the follow-up to CAVALERA CONSPIRACY's 2008 debut album, "Inflikted". A late 2010 release via Roadrunner Records is expected.
Igor Cavalera told AOL's Noisecreep late last year that CAVALERA CONSPIRACY hopes to release another album by this summer once he and his brother find time to work on some new material.
"Max is so busy with SOULFLY, and MIXHELL [Igor's electronic duo, also featuring his wife — Ed.] is taking up most of me and [my wife] Laima's time, so when we find some free time we do CAVALERA," Igor said. "I think that's why I really enjoy doing it. There's no pressure of being in a band and sitting around waiting for gigs. When we get the offers we sit together and decide if we want to do them or not do them, so it's really cool.
"We have some ideas of maybe doing a remix album of [CAVALERA CONSPIRACY's debut CD, 'Inflikted'] and have people like JUSTICE or SOULWAX — even some dub artists that my brother likes — remix the whole album," he added. "But that's just an idea. It's nothing confirmed. But me and Max are talking about doing a new album in the future, but there's no pressure. There's nobody from the label or the agents trying to push us to do it as quick as possible."
"Inflikted" has sold 42,000 copies in the United States since its March 2008 release, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Johny Chow (a.k.a. John Mark Bechtel; FIREBALL MINISTRY, SOULS OF WE, ex-SYSTEMATIC, MY RUIN) was recruited by CAVALERA CONSPIRACY to play bass for the group as the replacement for Joe Duplantier of the French progressive death metallers GOJIRA. Duplantier, who laid down all the bass tracks on "Inflikted", was busy in the studio working on the new GOJIRA CD and was unable to join CAVALERA CONSPIRACY on the road.

NOVEMBERS DOOM: \'A Eulogy For The Living Lost\' Video Released
"A Eulogy For The Living Lost", the new video from Chicago's NOVEMBERS DOOM, can be viewed below. The clip was flmed in Florida with the director who previously worked with the band on the "Autumn Reflection" video. According to a press release. "Tony Myles and Cage XXI have created a vision of a post-apocalyptic television broadcast. This unique look was filmed with the custom-made 'Wartooth' camera."
Commented NOVEMBERS DOOM vocalist Paul Kuhr: "We liked the idea of a gritty, and bleak look, all shot with a custom-built camera rig, the Wartooth, consisting of pieces from one of the first video cameras to ever see the light of day. This thing was a beast, and created a very unique look.
"All the 'ghosting' in the video isn't special effects, it's the way the camera actually shot the footage.
"Tony Myles is brilliant and has one of the most creative minds we've worked with."

AXEL RUDI PELL: New Album Details Revealed
With an impressive 20 releases in 21 years, the AXEL RUDI PELL band counts among the most consistent, lasting and creative acts in the whole of Europe. Very few German guitarists can point to as long and successful a career as the musician from Bochum, whose unmistakable signature marks not only his characteristic guitar style, but also his compositional skills.
On April 26, 2010 (Germany: April 23, 2010), Axel will release his thirteenth studio offering, "The Crest", a haunting album featuring ten brand-new compositions.
"'The Crest' sounds absolutely typical of me and my band," says Axel. "In a way, the new tracks mark a return to our roots. And I'm proud to say that there isn't one double-bass number on 'The Crest'."
The guitarist and songwriter knows that this decision will not be considered archaic, but makes him one of the spearheads of a thoroughly contemporary development: for months, there have been reports from America, the U.K. and Scandinavia that an increasing number of bands are relying on drum arrangements which adapt to the melody of a song.
His 13th studio album impresses with varied compositions at the interface of melodic metal and hard rock. The collaboration between Pell and his American vocalist, Johnny Gioeli, which was established some twelve years ago, has experienced yet another magic moment on "The Crest". The American's raw, charismatic voice is a perfect complement to the deeply melodic numbers by the AXEL RUDI PELL band, who in turn prepare the ground perfectly for their frontman, allowing him to unfold his timbre to perfection. "Naturally, I came up with the main features of the melody and lyrics, but I'd be ill-advised if I didn't listen to Johnny's suggestions," says Pell. "There's real teamwork in our band."
"The Crest" also features an innovation: for the first time, Axel Rudi Pell has taken care of the production himself. Between November 2009 and January 2010, he, bassist Volker Krawczak, keyboardist Ferdy Doernberg and drummer Mike Terrana recorded the nine tracks (plus intro) at the W.A.T. Studios in Bochum. Pell worked on the vocals in great detail with frontman Gioeli via Skype, and Gioeli recorded his parts in the U.S. The album was mixed, as usual, by Charlie Bauerfeind at the Mi Sueno Studios in Tenerife and at the Twilight Hall Studios in Grefrath, Germany, the hallowed halls of their colleagues BLIND GUARDIAN.
In view of the album's compositional density, it wouldn't seem fair to highlight individual tracks. At the same time, it must be mentioned that Axel Rudi Pell has come up with a continuation of his classic "Oceans Of Time" in the eight-minute "Dark Waves Of The Sea" (including unmistakable quotes from the original), and that the album features an impressive instrumental in "Noblesse Oblige (Opus # 5 Adagio Contabile)". And, of course, there's another great Pell ballad on the album, entitled "Glory Night".
So as usual, the band have done their homework brilliantly, and soon after the release of "The Crest", the AXEL RUDI PELL band will introduce their latest release as part of their 2010 tour: the first leg will kick off in May, followed by a number of big festivals during the summer, before the second leg is set to start in autumn. Following the enthusiastic reactions to their shows with HEAVEN & HELL in summer 2009, Pell is open to suggestions regarding another tour with a renowned act. "We had a lot of fun with HEAVEN & HELL, so I'd definitely consider a similar concept."
"The Crest" ( cover) track listing:
01. Prelude Of Doom (Intro)
02. Too Late
03. Devil Zone
04. Prisoner Of Love
05. Dreaming Dead
06. Glory Night
07. Dark Waves Of The Sea (Oceans Of Time Pt. II: The Dark Side)

TAKARA In Writing Mode
U.S. rockers TAKARA have commenced the songwriting process for their seventh full-length effort. Guitarist/founder Neal Grusky states, "I think this album will really please all our loyal TAKARA fans, and most likely intrigue many new ones. [it] will surely pick up up where 2008's 'Invitation To Forever' has left off.
"So far there are some classic TAKARA-style songs, and some much heavier and dynamic songs to go along with those songs.
"I hope, and expect, to be ready to enter the recording studio for the next TAKARA album sometime this year in 2010." | 0

Former METAL CHURCH Singer Joins BRUTAL GODZ
Former METAL CHURCH singer Ronny Munroe has joined BRUTAL GODZ, the new Germany-based project featuring former/current members of BLIND GUARDIAN, RHAPSODY OF FIRE and REBELLION.
Commented guitarist Uwe Lulis: "Ronny impressed us with his voice and instantly made us feel like he is the perfect one. We sent him three songs to work on and even in the same night he responded. Within a short timeframe of several hours, Ronny had written lyrics, created and arranged all the vocal lines and then performed his work — something that [none] of us had never experienced before.
"Ronny is absolutely amazing. We can't wait to hit the studio and get the songs nailed down."
Added Ronny Munroe: "I am very excited and honored to be playing with such great musicians. The material is brutal and I'm looking forward to a crushing release."
BRUTAL GODZ is:
Ronny Munroe (METAL CHURCH) - Vocals
Uwe Lulis (REBELLION) - Guitar
Alex Holzwarth (RHAPSODY OF FIRE) - Drums
Oliver Holzwarth (BLIND GUARDIAN) - Bass

LUNA MORTIS Calls It Quits
Guitarist Brian Koenig of the Madison, Wisconsin-based, female-fronted five-piece LUNA MORTIS (formerly known as THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE) has released the following statement:
"I regret to say that as of today the band will be dissolving and we will be going our separate ways.
"A huge thanks from the bottom of our hearts for the fans and support we have received over the course of the last nine years. It has been an exciting and often turbulent ride, but everything must come to an end eventually.
"Unfortunately, we will be unable to go on the May tour with PRIMAL FEAR, so our apologies to the people who were looking forward to hanging with us out on the road.
"To our local fans, we will more than likely be playing one more Madison show sometime in the next few months; we'll keep everyone posted."
