POWERWORLD Enlists Former THRESHOLD Singer
 German melodic metal band POWERWORLD, the brainchild of former FREEDOM CALL and MOON'DOC bassist Ilker Ersin, has enlisted former SARGANT FURY/THRESHOLD singer Andrew "Mac" McDermott. According to POWERWORLD, "Mac is confirmed as new full member of POWERWORLD and will finish the vocal parts [for the band's new LP] in his studio in Hanover."
POWERWORLD's second album, "Tame Your Demons", will contain twelve songs and will contain a guest appearance on drums by Simon Michael of SUBWAY TO SALLY.

TARJA TURUNEN - \"We Are Planning Some Crazy Stuff For The Next World Tour\"
 TARJA TURUNEN (ex-NIGHTWISH) has issued the following new blog entry from the studio:
"I slept like a baby last night. It’s so quiet here that it even feels scary at times. But it’s beautiful to work like this.
After Mike finished recording one song in the morning, we had some guests in the studio visiting us. Pete, our live sound engineer came to talk about next shows.
We are planning some crazy stuff for the next “world” tour. It’s just so fantastic to be able to decide myself the stage set up, the design of it and plan all the matters of the touring after all.
We need to start things already now, very early in advance, so that we are not running late when we need to hit the road with the new album.
Today was a magnificent day. Mike finished three songs and he is laying down damn good material.
'LL', 'DS' very heavy songs and 'U' a beautiful ballad. You didn’t think I was giving you all the song names right away, did you?
The atmosphere is calm and relaxed in the studio. I am not pushing Mike to his limits. At least I hope so.
I guess nobody likes to work like that anyway. Better your mood is, better you perform. That’s how it should be. And the question is, why try to make the impossible happen if the results sound already awesome? I don’t see any point in that. We have fun together, we do our best and that is what matters at the end of the day.
My friends from Same-Eyes Film Company are around too, shooting the whole production so that one day you’ll all see what we have been up to. Is nice to have things filmed so that we can remember everything afterwards.
Sometimes the time is running too fast and you don’t even realize what you are living through.
Today I even got to practise playing some piano parts that I am going to record in few days, so it was a very exciting day indeed.
We expect more visits for today. Let’s see…"

HOSTILE CELL Issue Recording Update
 HOSTILE CELL guitarist Martin Söderqvist has issued the following update:
"9 songs have been mixed so far and this new album is everything I hoped for and thought it would be. It's heavy, melodic, aggressive, melancholic and pop at the same time. It will kick your ASSES!"
The new Hostile Cell album, titled The Deafening, will be released worldwide on April 6th through Coreshot Productions with distribution through Plugged Records Distribution. It will be available in physical and digital formats.

AEROSMITH\'s JOE PERRY: STEVEN Hasn\'t Quit The Band, Nor Have We Sacked Him
 Joe Perry has exclusively told U.K.'s Classic Rock magazine that Steven Tyler will remain a member of AEROSMITH, even though another singer is being brought in.
Commented Perry: "Steven hasn't quit the band, nor have we sacked him. We're taking the attitude that he's going on a vacation from AEROSMITH. While he's away working on other projects, the rest of us (Perry, guitarist Brad Whitford, bassist Tom Hamilton and drummer Joey Kramer) want to carry on playing live. So we will be bring another singer to make this happen.
"We're not daft enough to think we can replace Steven, and that's not our plan. But after 40 years of working together we just don't wanna stop. How long with Steven be away? He says it'll be two years, but I believe he'll be back a lot sooner. It may end up that we only do 10 shows with the new person!"

CHARON Parts Ways With Guitarist
 Finnish gothic metallers CHARON have issued the following update:
"New decade brings changes to CHARON and now it's good time to update the situation.
"There have been rumours among CHARON fans and followers about the future of the band. Playfully it could be said that CHARON was not able to escape the cold grip of ongoing recession and had to go through re-organization and layoffs.
"After taking some time out last summer, we were not able to tune our engine to the needed pace for the studio sessions.
"We had written a bunch of new songs during the last couple of years but were not able to put them on record. After a long pondering and going through different alternatives, it was inevitable that we cannot output the next album in this mood of confusion. As a consequence, guitarist Pasi Sipilä has left CHARON.
"CHARON will continue playing and writing songs as a quartet. At the moment we are looking forward to new working methods and finding new ways to surprise our fans and to challenge bandmates with no boundaries on style or sound.
"We would like to thank Pasi for all his work for CHARON during the years and wish him good luck with music!
"We were glad to notice on our November gig that fans still believe in our work. It really kicks us forward and gives us a reason to continue. Hopefully we will meet again soon!
"CHARON will be entering the studio in March to record couple of new songs. Brand-new track will be released in March at our website in free Internet dowload!"

THE WRETCHED END Continuing Work On Debut Album
 THE WRETCHED END, the new Norway-based band featuring guitarist Samoth (EMPEROR, ZYKLON) and bassist Cosmo (MINDGRINDER) alongside Swedish drummer Nils Fjellström (DARK FUNERAL, IN BATTLE, AEON), recently entered the studio to begin recording its as-yet-untitled debut album for a 2010 release. The group states, "Cosmo finished the bass tracks last week. Now we're finishing up lyrics and working on vocal arrangements. Cosmo will be handling the vocals.
"The pre-production arrangements sounds very good.
"We'll be back at Stand Studio [in Oslo, Norway] soon to finalize the recordings."
Songtitles set to appear on the THE WRETCHED END CD include:

* Red Forest Alienation
* Residing in Limbo
* The Human Corporation
* Numbered Days
* Of Men and Wolves
* The Juggernaut Theory
* Last Judgement
According to a press release, THE WRETCHED END's music "can best be described as 'deathrash,' taking elements from both death metal and thrash metal. Many of the songs are quite groove-orientated, and also offer a melodic side. Influences range from the flavors of old-school as well as a more modern death/thrash metal sound."
THE WRETCHED END was formed in 2008 as creative collaboration between Samoth and Cosmo, who previously worked together on the infamous death-punk project SCUM. Cosmo also played with ZYKLON as a bass player when ZYKLON toured Europe as special guest for MORBID ANGEL in 2001. The two have long spoken about collaborating on an extreme metal project. Throughout 2008 most of the material for the debut album was composed and by spring 2009 a full pre-production demo consisting of 11 tracks was recorded.

DEW-SCENTED: New Album Title Revealed
 German thrashers DEW-SCENTED have set "Invocation" as the title of their new album, tentatively due in May in Europe via Metal Blade Records. The band entered Soundlodge Studios in Northern Germany this past Monday (February 1) with producer Jörg Uken (GOD DETHRONED, SINISTER) to begin recording the CD. The cover artwork is being created by Björn Goosses of Killustrations.com.
Commented the group: "After some last preparations in our rehearsal room this past weekend, we started tracking drums at Soundlodge Studios with Jörg Uken on Monday. It's fucking freezing outside, but in terms of drumming things are going great so far and Marc-Andrée is on fire!

AVANTASIA: \'The Wicked Symphony\', \'Angel Of Babylon\' Track Listing Revealed
 EDGUY frontman Tobias Sammet's AVANTASIA project will celebrate its comeback this spring with a new epic masterpiece, to be released on April 3, 2010 as two separate albums and in a limited deluxe edition (in one box set) entitled "The Wicked Symphony" and "Angel Of Babylon".

REQUIEM Parts Ways With Singer
 Swiss death metallers REQUIEM have issued the following update:
"After 13 years vocalist Michi Kuster has decided to leave the band due to family reasons. It's not possible for him anymore to take part of the busy band schedule.
"Michi will play his last show with REQUIEM on February 11, 2010 at Dynamo, Zurich (Switzerland) supporting HYPOCRISY (Sweden).
"The whole band wishes him and his family all the best for the future. REQUIEM made the decision to continue as a three-piece band from now on.

AMORPHIS, THE 69 EYES Honored At Finland\'s EMMA GAALA
 Finnish metallers AMORPHIS were honored in the "Metal Album Of The Year" category (for 2009's "Skyforger") at this year's Emma Gaala (Finnish Grammy equivalent), which was held February 4 at Peacock-Teatteri in Linnanmäki. Other artists that were nominated in the "Metal Album" category were ENSIFERUM, SONATA ARCTICA and KOTITEOLLISUUS. Elsewhere, THE 69 EYES won the "Export" award athe annual event, which was televised on the Finnish TV channel YLE and can be streamed online in its entirety at the YLE Areena web site.

SOTHIS: \'Of Night And Silence\' Video Released
 "Of Night and Silence", the new music video from Los Angeles-based black
metallers SOTHIS, can be viewed below. The clip was shot in Los Angeles
with Csaba Fikker as director of photography and was directed and edited by the band's vocalist Drogoth, who also handled all of the visual effects.
"Of Night & Silence" is the opening track of SOTHIS' debut album, "De Oppresso Liber", which was tracked in Los Angeles and mixed by KING DIAMOND guitarist Andy LaRocque at his Sonic Train Studios in Varberg, Sweden.

TAROT: New Album Artwork, Release Date Revealed
 TAROT — the Finnish group led by NIGHTWISH/ex-SINERGY bassist Marco Hietala — will release its ninth studio album, "Gravity Of Light", on April 23 via Nuclear Blast Records (excluding Finland). AVATAR Signs With SONY For German Release Of New Album
 Swedish metallers AVATAR have inked a deal with Sony Music Entertainment for the German release of the band's third, self-titled album. The CD will be made available in Germany on March 26 and in the rest of Europe on February 22 via Gain Music Entertainment.
AVATAR's latest video, "Queen Of Blades", can be viewed below. The clip was filmed on November 27, 2009 at Brew House in Gothenburg and was helmed by René U. Valdes of Greenworks.

BURZUM - Updated Belus Tracklisting, Lyrics Revealed
 BURZUM, featuring mastermind Varg Vikernes (aka Count Grishnackh), will release a new album, entitled "Belus", on March 8th via Byelobog Productions.

It's been 11 long years and now the world will see the return of Burzum. The highly anticipated new album is entitled Belus after the name of the ancient European solar deity of light and innocence. Belus is not a religious album or an anti-religious album, nor is it a political one, but an attempt to explore the myths about Belus and unveil the oldest roots of our cultural heritage. The album deals with the death of Belus, his sombre journey through the realm of death and his magnificent return. In essence the album and the story of Belus is meant to be an entertaining story about something that once upon a time played a major role in the forming and shaping of Europe.
"The album has been made according to my heart and spirit, and not to fit into any particular genre or category, or to live up to anyone's obvious expectations".
The music can best be compared to the music of some of the old Burzum albums; in particular the ground breaking Hvis Lyset Tar Oss and the atmospheric brilliances of Filosofem, only the ambient parts present on these albums has been almost completely left out on Belus.
"There is no special reason for this, other than coincidence and the fact that I have for some time made more and better music on the guitar rather than on the keyboard".
"Inspiration for the album has come from a variety of sources, and I find my inspiration from fairy tales and myths, from classical music, from memories of what once was, from traditional music, from fantasy, from the wind and weather, from deep forests and running water, from the sky and the sunset, from misty mountains and from yellow leaves falling from age old trees".
"My ambition with Belus is to create something I - and hopefully others too - can listen to for years and years to come without ever growing tired of it, and at the same time to share with my audience the experience of getting to know Belus, as he might have been perceived by the ancient Europeans."
The combination of lyrics and music makes this a fairy tale different from most others, and should appeal to all those who like transcendental music and love to see different things from a different perspective.
"If I can make you dream when listening to this album, I believe I have done a good job."
"I am aware of the black metal association with the name Burzum, and I have no real and serious problem with that, but I personally see no reason to place Belus in any category. I think Belus musically transcends all existing categories, but if I have to choose one - and for the sake of simplicity - I will simply place it in the metal category."
Belus will be released worldwide on Byelobog Productions on March 8th.

HOLY RAGE Announce Lineup Changes
 HOLY RAGE, the UK act featuring former JUDAS PRIEST vocalist Al Atkins, have issued the following update from guitarist Chris Johnson:
"At the begining of the year Al began writing some new songs with the help and ideas of two other writers for the Holy Rage debut album and shocked us all by announcing that he wanted both of them to play a part in the band too.
After listening to the new songs that they had written (which by the way are awesome) and rehearsing together for the first time it really did sound like a killer idea and only not are we sounding even heavier, but also it seems like we have played together forever.
These are very exiting times for us and we now want to announce that the new lineup for the band is:

HOLY GRAIL Heads To The Studio; Debut Album Due In Late Spring
 Los Angeles-based metallers HOLY GRAIL will head in to the studio this month to record their debut album, Crisis In Utopia, due out on Prosthetic Records in late spring.
Acclaimed producer/remixer/musician Danny Lohner (NINE INCH NAILS, A PERFECT CIRCLE) will be at the production helm.
Previously known as SORCERER, Holy Grail features members from a former lineup of WHITE WIZZARD. Assembled less than a year ago, Holy Grail is already at the forefront of the new wave of metal that pays homage to such legends as IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST and DIO.
The band’s debut EP, Improper Burial (released in late 2009), featuring just two original tracks and two covers, has earned Holy Grail significant press accolades. JOE PERRY Confirms STEVEN TYLER Tried Out For LED ZEPPELIN
 According to The Pulse of Radio, Joe Perry confirmed the rumors that Steven Tyler did indeed try out for LED ZEPPELIN shortly after Robert Plant passed on reuniting with the band in 2008. For the first time Perry shared the details of Tyler's ill-fated attempt to front ZEPPELIN, telling Classic Rock magazine, "Steven disappeared and I called around. Somebody said he was in London trying out for LED ZEPPELIN. It's something I've never talked about before. It's a kind of window into how hard it's been to keep the partnership together. It's not the first time things like this have happened— that's the downside of our relationship."
According to what Jimmy Page told Perry, the rehearsals were "shambolic," with Tyler unfamiliar with the ZEPPELIN catalogue and under the impression they would be working on new material.
Perry added: "Page felt really awkward about the audition, but ultimately it was a group decision (to pass on Tyler)."
Perry spoke to Arkansas City, Kansas radio station KACY 102.5 FM and admitted that having Paul Rodgers replace Tyler in AEROSMITH was a thought, and that he plans to record some solo tracks with Rodgers in the future.
When asked if he would be amenable to having a female singer replace Tyler, Perry said: "Oh, definitely! No one in the band's brought that up, but sometimes. . . You've gotta think out of the box. Oddly enough, a lot of the bands I was in before I had AEROSMITH, I had female singers in the band and it was really good — a lot of great songs. So that's definitely a possibility."

PURIFIED IN BLOOD: New Album Title, Track Listing Revealed
 Norwegian metallers PURIFIED IN BLOOD have set "Under Black Skies" as the title of their sophomore full-length album, tentatively due this spring. The CD was mixed in Seattle, Washington mixing with Matt Bayles (MASTODON, ISIS, BOTCH).

SYN:DROM: \'With Flesh Unbound\' Artwork, Track Listing Unveiled
 Swedish death metallers SYN:DROM (formerly BLACKBREATH) will release their debut album, "With Flesh Unbound", on April 30 via ViciSolum Productions. The CD was recorded at Nevo studios in Sundsvall, Sweden and was engineered and mixed by the bandmembers themselves.

THURISAZ Prepare To Hit The Studio; Announce New Live Dates
 Belgium-based metallers THURISAZ have issued the following update:
"Two weeks left before we enter the CCR studio to record our third full-album! With the help of the soundengineers Kris and Nik we'll start recording on February 15th. Normally all should be recorded at the end of March 2010!
Soon there will be more news about the cover, title and release date!
This month we are looking forward to make our trip to Madrid to rejoin our friends NOVEMBERS DOOM at the gig in Ritmo Y Compas!

DAN SWANÖ Issues Update On SECOND SKY Project
 Swedish multi-instrumentalist/producer Dan Swanö (NIGHTINGALE, EDGE OF SANITY, BLOODBATH) has issued the following update on the new SECOND SKY LP:
"The album is coming along nicely. If all goes according to plans, we will re-record the drums with Peter Damin in Soundlab starting Sunday next week.
The original drum recording is fantastic playingwise, but it isn't recorded as well I need it (it was done with a mobile studio in Peter Damin's little red house in May 2004). Once the drums are re-recorded, I am one step closer to getting where I want this album to be sound-wise.
"I am sorry to keep you waiting, but the album will be out when it's ready. This is a very special album for me (and for Peter Edwinzon too) so there is nothing to be gained from releasing this album before we both feel it is as good as it can be.
"I just want to clearify that I have in no way been working non-stop with this album. There have been many periods of 6-7 months where I haven't even opened the folder on the harddrive.
"I am actually happy that it's taken so long. These songs deserve the best treatment they can get, and my current computer and speaker setup is the best I have ever had and I have learned so much about mixing and mastering since this album was initiated."
