With the addition of Glenn Hughes, all the work they've been putting in over the last few years will realize its full potential with this release. DEF LEPPARD's VIVIAN CAMPBELL Will Never Retire: 'If I Stopped Playing Guitar, I'd Be Just Waiting To Die'
In a recent interview with Scott Rusk of the 98.9 KKZX radio station in Spokane, Washington, DEF LEPPARD guitarist Vivian Campbell was asked when he will know it's time for him to hang it up. He responded (hear audio below): "It won't be. When I'm dead, when I stop breathing, that's when I'll stop working. I have no plans to retire; I have no interest in it."
He continued: "To me, playing is is all I've ever wanted to do and I've been fortunate this is all I've ever done. I see no reason to stop working. I don't know what I would do. I think, in my case, if I stopped playing guitar, I'd be just waiting to die. Even when I was doing my cancer treatments, even at the worst of it, when was doing chemo and stem cell and stuff — well, not when I was stem cell, 'cause I couldn't leave the hospital…. I've been on tour when I've been doing hardcore chemo, and I didn't have any hair on my head, I didn't even have eyebrows, but I think it was a big part of helping me deal with it — the fact that I continued to be able to do my work. And on that subject, I'd just like to say I'm very grateful to my band mates in DEF LEPPARD that they took a chance on me and afforded me that opportunity, to work when I was in that state. But I think it helped me through it."
Campbell added: "We realize that there's a lot of hard work, and we know, 'cause we've put in the hard work over the years. But when you're out there on stage, and especially, like I say, when we see our audience growing — we're in our late 50s and a couple of us are in our 60s now — and to go out there and to see people young enough to be your children just really really, really enjoying the show and the energy that that gives, it's wonderful. We realize how blessed we are to be able to do this."
Campbell — who before joining DEF LEPPARD in 1992 was well known for his work with DIO and WHITESNAKE — went public with his Hodgkin's lymphoma diagnosis in June 2013.
Campbell underwent three separate spells of chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant, only for his Hodgkin's lymphoma to return.
For the past four years, Campbell has been treated with medication called pembrolizumab, which has only recently been FDA approved.
Pembrolizumab is the same immunotherapy drug former president Jimmy Carter has been using to treat his metastatic melanoma.
Immunotherapy is a revolutionary approach to cancer therapy, and the idea behind it is to marshal the body's own defenses and aid them in the fight against cancer.
DEF LEPPARD recently announced select "20/20 Vision" fall tour dates with very special guests ZZ TOP. Produced by Live Nation, this new leg of dates will immediately follow the group's massively successful summer stadium tour with MÖTLEY CRÜE, which has already sold more than 1.1 million tickets. The "20/20 Vision" tour will kick off on September 21 at Times Union Center in Albany, New York.

IGGY POP Releases Music Video For 'We Are The People'
Iggy Pop has unveiled a striking and spare new video for "We Are The People" from his critically lauded album "Free" (Loma Vista Recordings). In the wake of last week's live rendition of the song by Iggy accompanied by Laurie Anderson at Carnegie Hall, the "We Are The People" clip imbues Iggy's interpretation of a poem written by Lou Reed in 1970 with a riveting new visual dimension. From the opening lines "We are the people without land. We are the people without tradition. We are the people who do not know how to die peacefully and at ease" to the song's slow fade, the effect of Iggy's close-up recitation is transfixing.
On Saturday, March 7 at Perrotin in New York City, Iggy will release a limited, numbered vinyl "test pressing" release of "Free", featuring cover art and creative collaboration with Maurizio Cattelan. Iggy Pop and Maurizio Cattelan will sign copies of this special "test pressing" vinyl which has been made available in 340 numbered units worldwide, including a bonus seven-inch single featuring two unreleased tracks exclusive to this special artistic collaboration: Iggy's a cappella rendition of "Brahms Lullaby" and "Epistle to Tromba", a heartfelt ode to a late canine companion. Each copy of this numbered edition of 340 will be enclosed in a resealable Japanese polybag. Concurrently, Perrotin is excited to present books and merchandise spanning Maurizio Cattelan's career, as well as a series of historic fine art prints of Iggy Pop, courtesy of the Morrison Gallery.
The limited-edition version of "Free" is available for purchase commencing at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 7, while the signing will begin at 1 p.m. Perrotin is located at 130 Orchard Street in New York.
"Free" was originally released September 13, 2019 by Loma Vista Recordings. Featuring collaborators Leron Thomas (trumpet/keys/songwriting) and Noveller (guitar/vocals), the album holds a singular place in Iggy's canon — and has generated suitably unique praise: The New York Times called the title track "atmospheric and elusive" and praised the song "Sonali" as "a rushing, fluttering, quasi-waltz that hurries toward an undisclosed destination, whimsical but driven." Rolling Stone regaled Iggy's performance on the new record, "Pop flexes his baritone, expressing himself more clearly than perhaps ever before." And The Washington Post noted "Iggy haunts these new songs like a dignified spirit — which might make 'Free' an exposition on death, or transcendence, or both."

RATT's STEPHEN PEARCY Releases New Song Called 'Making Crazy'
RATT singer Stephen Pearcy has released a song called "Making Crazy" which he claims was written and recorded over the course of several hours on Friday (February 28).
Last night, Pearcy took to his Facebook page to share a Dropbox link to an MP3 file containing the song and included the following message: "MT Studio yesterday with Matt (recorded, engineered, bass, mixed) Thorne. One of those walk in, plug in guitar, let's arrange a good tempo and see where we end up. Results, fuck yeh! No particular place RATT or @septopfuel Just a song."
Earlier today, Pearcy tweeted out another photo from the studio and included the following message: "Yes, I played all guitars and the brief sleaze solo. Actually these two guitars. Wrote the lyrics at the moment. @Juan_Croucier doing the same as we’ve been in writing mode. @BLABBERMOUTHNET Next!"
Last November, Pearcy revealed that he was in pre-production for his sixth solo album with his longtime guitarist and collaborator, Erik Ferentinos.
Pearcy's fifth solo LP, "View To A Thrill", came out in November 2018 via Frontiers Music Srl. The follow-up to 2017's "Smash" was produced by Matt Thorne and Pearcy and was mixed and mastered by Thorne and Ferentinos.
Speaking about the songwriting process for his solo material, Pearcy told Music Existence: "RATT's music is its own entity and animal, and it has its own schematics. With my solo stuff, I tend to do whatever I like — an acoustic song, a really heavy song — and go places and talk about things that I want to. It's my freedom of speech. That's one thing I like about it, and I'm always writing, so what else can I do, you know? Just try to get it out and get it heard! I don't care if it sells ten million or nil million; it's just what I do. You do the best that you can."
Pearcy and bassist Juan Croucier are the sole remaining original members in RATT's current lineup, which made its live debut in July 2018 in Mulvane, Kansas. Joining them in the band are drummer Pete Holmes (BLACK 'N BLUE, RATT'S JUAN CROUCIER) and guitarist Jordan Ziff.
Pearcy told Sleaze Roxx that Erik was briefly considered for a position in RATT before Ziff and and now-former RATT guitarist Chris Sanders (BRITNY FOX, KNIGHT FURY) came along. "He's literally been in my band for years, in my solo band," he said. "He's a big part of my life, my solo records, the mixing, the engineering, just everything. I mean, we're like a team when I go in to do my solo records with Matt Thorne in the studio, and Erik and myself. We get in there and there is no stopping us, so I wanted to keep that a little separate, but he's always ready to go at any moment. He's a total professional."

ELECTRIC MOB To Release Debut Album, Discharge, In May; "Devil You Know" Music Video Streaming
Electric Mob is the newest up-and-coming hard rock sensation signed to Frontiers Music Srl. A mixture of powerful vocals, mean guitar riffs, and heavy groove with influences from the ‘70s, ‘80s, and ‘90s, the band is prepared to put Brazil back on the rock ‘n roll map. Their debut album, Discharge, is slated for release on May 8. Pre-order/save the album here, and watch a video for first single, "Devil You Know", below.
Formed in Curitiba, Brazil by Renan Zonta (vocals), Ben Hur Auwarter (guitar), Yuri Elero (bass), and André Leister (drums), Electric Mob caught the attention of Frontiers with their tremendous hard rock songs that show the influence of contemporary hard rock giants while also showing a knowledge of the hard rock pillars of the '70s and '80s. Electric Mob is comprised of four young, hungry and extremely talented musicians, with the rock 'n roll attitude to deliver their explosive performances. Like a sonic punch to the face, their songs bring a heavy sound with a distinct groove. Think Aerosmith and Guns N’ Roses mixed with Audioslave with a bluesy touch on top, and you are getting close to the band's sound.
The band says that, "there isn’t anything like being able to contribute to the world of hard rock music and we are sure that we couldn’t be in a better place to do it than here with Frontiers. Doing what you love most is the greatest feeling ever and when heavy, mean, and dirty rock n roll is what you love, well…that’s the dream! We are really looking forward to releasing our debut album. All you rockers out there can expect something like a flying dropkick with both feet right in your chest! And for those who don’t know us yet, watch out, because we are coming!"
Vocalist Renan Zonta is no stranger to rock fans in Brazil. He is one of the most acclaimed participants of all-time on the TV show The Voice Brazil, with more than 3 million views on YouTube for his various videos. His vocal abilities are simply stunning and this debut album will easily put him in the range of the new “vocal giants” and labelmates like Dino Jelusick of Animal Drive, Nathan James of Inglorious, and Ronnie Romero of The Ferrymen.
Electric Mob is one of rock’s most exciting and promising newcomers in years and Frontiers could not be prouder to be releasing their debut album on an unsuspecting public.

Finland's TEMPLE BALLS Sign Multi-Album Deal With Frontiers Music Srl
Frontiers Music Srl has announced the signing of Finnish hard rockers, Temple Balls, to a multi album deal.
A hard working melodic hard rock band from Oulu, Finland, Temple Balls debuted with the release of their first single, "Hell And Feelin’ Fine" in September 2016. The infectious single got loads of airtime on Finland's Radio Rock, helping to establish the newcomers on the scene. The band went on to record their debut album, Traded Dreams, which was produced by Tobias Lindell (Europe, Mustasch and H.E.A.T.). In 2017, the band supported the release with a sold-out tour across Finland with Battle Beast. Additionally, they played Japan for the first time. Later in 2017, there was a mini-tour in Ukraine and in April 2018, a two week tour of the Baltics and Eastern Europe took place, helping to spread the word about the band outside of their native Finland.
The band then took a break to commence recording their sophomore album, Untamed, which dropped in March 2019. Greeted with fantastic reviews, the band then appeared as support act of Sonata Arctica in their recent European tour in the fall of 2019 along with now labelmates, Edge Of Paradise.
Memorable refrains, melodic hooks, heartfelt lyrics, and the vocalist’s unique, yet classic singing style all add up to a delightful delivery from these youngsters. This is what caught Frontiers’ attention, who greatly looks forward to release the band’s next album. It will be produced by Jona Tee (of H.E.A.T.) and is tentatively planned for release in the first quarter of 2021.
For those unfamiliar with the band, get a glimpse into their sound below:

RONNIE JAMES DIO's Long-Awaited Autobiography Will Include 'Some Really Good Stories'
Wendy Dio, widow and longtime manager of Ronnie James Dio, spoke to SiriusXM's "Trunk Nation" about the the long-awaited autobiography of the heavy metal master, which is tentatively due in 2021. Legendary rock journalist Mick Wall is working with Wendy on the book with, which was three-quarters written before the singer's death and which was originally scheduled to be published several years ago via MTV Books.
"Ronnie had written all the way past [his time with] RAINBOW," Wendy said. "And then we also found a lot of scribblings. So Mick Wall and I are working on that together. But that will be in Ronnie's own words.
"We are researching all the interviews that Ronnie did during his life," she continued. "1986 is when he started [writing] it, and he's talking about it in the beginning. And he starts the book off with saying, 'I'm on a plane getting off in Brazil, and a reporter comes up and asks me, 'How did you get started in the business?' And I was ready to just give my usual answer, and I thought, 'How did I get started in the business?'"
Wendy confirmed that she was aware Ronnie had been working on the book for more than two decades before his untimely 2010 passing.
"He'd write a bit and write a bit, bring it into the office, we'd type it up, and then he'd write a bit more," she said. "He handwrote everything and then just brought it in. And then, obviously, in the last few years, he was typing the stuff on his computer. So that's where we found a bunch more stuff that he had written I didn't even know he had written. And it's really interesting. It's really interesting, because even if it wasn't Ronnie [writing it], and it was somebody [else], the stories are really interesting. 'Cause Ronnie is a lyricist and he's a storyteller, and there are some really good stories in there."
Ronnie James Dio passed away of stomach cancer on May 16, 2010 at the age of 67. A few months after his death, MTV Books announced plans to release his memoir, which at the time was going to be called "Rainbow In The Dark: The Autobiography Of Ronnie James Dio".
Dio was renowned throughout the world as one of the greatest and most influential vocalists in heavy metal history. The singer, who was recording and touring with BLACK SABBATH offshoot HEAVEN & HELL prior to his illness, was diagnosed with stomach cancer in late 2009. He underwent chemotherapy and made what is now his final public appearance in April 2010 at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards in Los Angeles.
Also due in 2021 is a documentary that will cover Dio's career from his early days with ELF to his final project, HEAVEN & HELL. It is the first documentary about Dio to be fully authorized by the artist's estate. BMG is both financier and executive producer of the film, with all rights available worldwide.

British extreme metallers CRADLE OF FILTH recently entered the studio to begin recording their new album. A short video clip of the drum-tracking sessions, courtesy of CRADLE OF FILTH drummer Martin "Marthus" Škaroupka, can be seen below.
Last year, CRADLE OF FILTH frontman Dani Filth told the "Rocknroll Beer Guy" podcast that the material that had already been written for the band's next album was "sounding great. It's just a step up from the last record, but we're trying to explore new horizons as well — mix some things up a little bit," he said. "What I've heard is awesome. It's decidedly CRADLE OF FILTH, and it's the best CRADLE OF FILTH that we can muster. The last few records, a lot of people said, 'Wow, this is a return to the olden glory days,' whatever. I think that myself, but I don't know if that reflects everybody's opinions. But, yeah, now I'm not gonna say it's darker and heavier. I mean, we've done that, and there's only so far you can go forward with that. We're just gonna experiment a little bit."
This past February, CRADLE OF FILTH announced the departure of its keyboardist of the past seven years, Lindsay Schoolcraft. A replacement keyboardist has not yet been announced.
CRADLE OF FILTH's latest album, "Cryptoriana - The Seductiveness of Decay", came out in 2017.
The band performed its third LP, 1998's "Cruelty And The Beast", in its entirety at several shows last spring and summer, including at the Dokk'em Open Air and Summer Breeze festivals.

Exclusive: Halifax’s TURBO Premieres “Alive” Single
Cruising in from the Canadian Maritimes is Turbo, brandishing their signature brand of potent “Nitro-Rock”. To introduce this onslaught of riffs and madness to the world, they are releasing their debut album Fast As Fvck later this year and kicking the party off with the single “Alive”, premiered through BraveWords!
Between them, the members of Turbo have played every loud-music genre there is to name and these experiences have worked together to shape the current sound with an emphasis on rock and punk. These genres formed the base for their planned debut full length, which Turbo explains in their own words:
“Fast As Fvck is a sort of homage to true rock and roll in its most vicious and visceral form. Each of the seven tracks hit like a swift kick to the teeth from a whole new angle of attack, but the assault is far from a mindless battering to the eardrums. The album ebbs and flows through different moods and subtleties with sophisticated craftsmanship.”
Coined as a gateway drug into the gritty rock and roll lifestyle, it’s raw, real and punches full of passion. The in your face attitude that radiates from the album, is translated into the stage presence of the group and they quote:
“‘Alive’, which is more or less a written testament to bad-decisions with one of the most badass riffs on the album slapped on top of it. The song features a call-and-response guitar harmony and an anthemic chorus. There’s not too much more to say on it apart from being among the most fun songs on the album; definitely one to do a keg stand along to.”
Recommended for those who like W.A.S.P., Motorhead and Guns n’ Roses, fans that take interest in this fresh record shouldn’t have to wait too long for another dose, as writing has commenced for more tunes to follow once the debut album is out.
Tracklisting:
“Burning The Wick”
“Alive”
“Living On The Line”
“Silver Spoon”
“Make Bail”

MYRKUR Share New Song "Gudernes Vilje"; Audio
Myrkur's Amalie Bruun has shared a third and final pre-release single from her forthcoming album, Folkesange, which is set for release March 20 via Relapse Records. Listen to "Gudernes Vilje" below.
Myrkur has always carved her own path and challenged underground preconceptions of heavy genres. Soon after newfound motherhood, Amalie Bruun sets out on a journey into the very heart of the Scandinavian culture that marked her own childhood. On Folkesange she relinquishes black metal for a refined yet far-reaching evocation of traditional folk, combining songs ancient and new to sublimely resonant effect.
Following previous singles "Ella" and "Leaves Of Yggdrasil" today Brunn presents a third glimpse with "Gudernes Vilje", a Danish term which translates as "The Will Of The Gods". She explains, "I wrote this song about being given the biggest gift in life and then having it taken away from you. 'Alt går som Gudernes Vilje' means Everything goes according to the will of the Gods. We are only human and some of the biggest most important things in this life, are completely out of our control." The song features piano, violin, mandola, cello, frame drum along Bruun's ethereal, crystalline vocals."
Storytelling, rites of passage, and the invocation of a continuity that passes through time and generation are all part of folk music's tapestry, and Folkesange taps into all these currents in their most essential form. In part a purist's approach to the genre, free from over-interpretation and fusion, the use of Kulning (an ancient Scandinavian herding call) and traditional instruments throughout, such as nyckelharpa, lyre and mandola offer a deeper, more tactile connection to their source, an unbroken line of communication back to the past.
But the album is no museum piece; it resonates in the here and now, aided by the spacious production of Heilung member and musical collaborator Christopher Juul. Cinematic yet intimate, Folkesange exists in a state of boundless reverie, bourne by string-led drones, cyclical, elegiac rhythms and Bruun's frictionless voice, all carrier signals for deep-rooted, ancestral memories, and associations felt on an elemental level.
An immersive experience in its own right, but also belonging to a wider, pagan folk-based renaissance that has attracted a devoted following worldwide, Folkesange answers a need that has become ever more pressing in turbulent times. A zeroing in on a resonance that is both intrinsic and enduring, it's a rediscovery of personal grounding, and an experience that reaches beyond culture to remind us of a shared, deeply rooted inheritance. A tuning fork that binds the personal and the universal, Folkesange is a reminder that the most transcendent experiences are those closest to home.

ULCERATE To Unleash Stare Into Death And Be Still In April, Title Track Streaming Now
New Zealand-based death metal trio Ulcerate will unleash their sixth album, Stare Into Death And Be Still, on April 24th via new label home Debemur Morti Productions.
The unmistakeable sound of Ulcerate finds its emotional apex on Stare Into Death And Be Still, as the band emerges from the claustrophobia and dissonance of their recent past to present a next-level exploration of melody, harmony, and power. The band's signature, ultra-atmospheric blend of unorthodox death metal with the textures of futurist black metal is here pared-down with the consummate hand of experience, giving stunning credence to the riff, the song, and the meaning.
Embracing production clarity, Ulcerate uses these songs to fully showcase their otherworldly musicianship: a vocal performance from Paul Kelland of unadulterated authority, Michael Hoggard's guitar, and Jamie Saint Merat's percussion working in tandem with startling skill and originality, simultaneously skewed and heart-rending, often addictively succinct and reveling in strident motifs that hook, haunt, and transform the listener with their expressive honesty.
Thematically, the album explores the concept of "death reverence" - drawing on recent personal experience to confront the truism that death and tragedy aren't always sudden or violent, that people are often passive observers trapped "in the silent horror of observing death calmly and cleanly."
Stare Into Death And Be Still is the deepest, purest, and most meticulous form of Ulcerate: a soul-searching conflagration of atypical melodicism, immaculate virtuosic dexterity and sublimated psychological upheaval. A breathtaking new beginning for one of the most uniquely talented bands in extreme music.
Ulcerate delivers their first preview of the record with a stream of the title track.
Stare Into Death And Be Still will be released on CD, LP, and digital formats. The cover art and tracklisting are as follows:
"The Lifeless Advance"
"Exhale The Ash"
"Stare Into Death And Be Still"
"There Is No Horizon"
"Inversion"
"Visceral Ends"
"Drawn Into The Next Void"
"Dissolved Orders"

Germany's WARLUST Premiere New Track "I Spit On Your Grave"
German evil metal cult Warlust has premiered their new track "I Spit On Your Grave". The song hails from the band's second album, Unearthing Shattered Philosophies, set for international release on April 24th via Dying Victims Productions.
One of the metal underground’s best-kept secrets, Warlust began their assault on the false in 2012. The title of their debut demo, 2014’s Unholy Attack, said everything it needed to: here was black-thrashing metal, steeped in the spirits of old and with genuinely evil blood coursing through its veins. However, it was 2017’s Morbid Execution debut album where Warlust first truly took flight – on burning wings of flame! More intense, more epic, more heavy fucking metal, Morbid Execution carried on the noble work started by founding fathers Desaster in their homeland and Deströyer 666, Zemial, and Aura Noir abroad.
But, while that debut LP was still tethered to more traditional-style blackthrash, with Unearthing Shattered Philosophies, Warlust’s songwriting chops blossom with startling strength and crushing clarity. It’s all immediately Warlust, for sure, but within the album’s eight-song / 45-minute runtime lurks a travelogue of terror and triumph, of melancholy and malevolence. Calling it more “epic” would be accurate, but that only tells half the story, if at all; allowing oneself to be swept away by both teeth-gnashing thrash sprints and strident, swords-aloft marches is more representative of the experience, of total possession, in thrall to the eternal and unyielding spirit of Hell’s heavy metal. Likewise, Warlust’s command of dynamics here is impressive, to say the very least: part and parcel of those more epic stylings, the narrative flow within each track and then from one track to the next takes the band into the upper echelon of nowadays evil metal. And the band’s melodicism is, as ever, simultaneously cryogenic and burning hot to the touch in the grand tradition of classic Dissection and Necrophobic.
Better yet, gaze deeply into the moody artwork adorning Unearthing Shattered Philosophies and see where Warlust lead you! Cover and tracklisting are as follows:
"Death Created Time"
"The Burning Eyes Of Satan"
"Wolvewhore"
"In The Shadow Of The Alchemyst"
"My Final Sacrifice"
"I Spit On Your Grave"
"Primal & Divine"
"To Fall Apart"

Watch Trailer For 'Rockfield: The Studio On The Farm' About Legendary Studio Used By RUSH, QUEEN, BLACK SABBATH And JUDAS PRIEST
"Rockfield: The Studio On The Farm", the new documentary about the legendary studio where classic albums by RUSH, QUEEN, BLACK SABBATH, JUDAS PRIEST, MOTÖRHEAD and SEPULTURA have been recorded, will premiere at SXSW (South By Southwest) on March 16.
The documentary, directed by Hannah Berryman, is the unlikely tale of how two Welsh farming brothers turned their dairy farm into one of the most successful recording studios of all time, producing four decades of legendary rock music.
Fifty years ago, deep in the Welsh countryside, brothers Kingsley and Charles Ward were starting out in the family dairy farming business. But they yearned to do something different — they wanted to make music. So they built a studio in the attic of their farmhouse and started recording with their friends.
Kingsley's new wife, Ann, left her job in the local bank to do the books, and they continued farming all the while. Animals were kicked out of barns and musicians were moved into Nan's spare bedroom. Inadvertently, they'd launched the world's first independent residential recording studio: Rockfield.
Among the albums that were recorded at Rockfield are QUEEN's "Bohemian Rhapsody", RUSH's "A Farewell To Kings" and "Hemispheres", JUDAS PRIEST's "Sad Wings Of Destiny", MOTÖRHEAD's "On Parole" and BLACK SABBATH's "Dehumanizer". Robert Plant, Iggy Pop, SIMPLE MINDS, THE STONE ROSES, OASIS, COLDPLAY and more have also made music and mayhem at Rockfield over the decades. This is their story of rock and roll dreams intertwined with a family business’s fight for survival in the face of an ever-changing music landscape.
The official trailer, which can be seen below, features an appearance from Ozzy Osbourne, who recorded some of BLACK SABBATH's earliest demos at the facility.
"Just to go from Birmingham to Monmouth was an adventure," he said. "You don't understand, we'd never been in a studio, we'd never been on a farm."

CARCASS: New Album Title Revealed
British extreme metal pioneers CARCASS have set "Torn Arteries" as the title of their new album, due on August 7 via Nuclear Blast.
The name of the follow-up to 2013's "Surgical Steel" was revealed by guitarist Bill Steer in a recent interview with Australia's Heavy.
According to Steer, the title of the new CARCASS LP stems from a demo tape that the band's founding drummer Ken Owen recorded when he was still a teenager. "He had a fictitious band called TORN ARTERIES and he recorded everything himself in his bedroom — guitar, and he'd actually bang on boxes and kind of scream into the mic," Bill explained. "And the whole thing was so distorted, it kind of sounded super heavy, even though essentially you were listening to a guy with a Spanish guitar and a couple of boxes. I think Jeff [Walker, CARCASS bassist/vocalist] appreciates the connection to the past and the fact that it was another Ken Owen classic. So that was his choice, really, and it stuck."
Steer went on to say that the "Torn Arteries" title is an homage of sorts to Owen, who suffered a brain hemorrhage in 1999 and hasn't actively played with CARCASS for more than two decades.
"I can't remember when this came up, but we were doing some press conference at a festival, and I think we all kind of agreed that even though Ken isn't playing in the band as such right now, he's kind of involved in everything we do, stylistically, because when he was so unique — when he was playing drums, his approach was just totally different," Steer said. "Also, the riffs he came up with, they were just really far out there. They were loads of fun to learn. I still think, as a guitar player, some of the stuff was very unorthodox and it was quite a challenge. That kind of influence still runs through what we do today. Just as a friendship thing, we're all still in touch regularly, and it's just been great to see Ken's life stabilizing. Basically, he has a good standard of living and he's a happy guy."
Asked how long it took to record the new CARCASS album, Bill said: "I couldn't really tell you, because it was done in several chunks, and it was the first time we've really done this. In the past, there'd be one session, or maybe a couple of long sessions, whereas this was a week here and a week there. So it did feel like a long time. I [couldn't tell you] exactly how many days or weeks that was. Obviously, quality control is a huge factor with us, 'cause you want the thing to be as good as it can be. And the fact that we don't record with a click track, the whole thing is not on a grid, so you can't copy and paste a verse or a chorus, like some bands might do. And that's a good thing, but it also means you've gotta spend longer [recording everything]."
Steer also confirmed that the new CARCASS song "Under The Scalpel Blade", which was released last December as a digital single, will appear on the group's upcoming seventh LP.
"I think it's one of the more conservative tunes off the album," the guitarist said. "There aren't really many elements in that song that are brand new to CARCASS. If you're gonna pick it apart and analyze it, there's definitely things that remind the listener of things we might have done in the past. For various reasons, it appeared to be the best song to put out there first. It's also one of the safer numbers on the album, I would say."
Steer also talked about the addition of second guitarist Tom Draper (POUNDER, ex-ANGEL WITCH, PRIMITAI), who made his live debut with CARCASS in March 2018 at the Netherlands Deathfest at 013 in Tilburg.
"[Tom] is from Southern England, but for the last few years, he's been living in California," Bill said. "Yeah, he's just been a really great addition to the group. He's incredibly organized and methodical. His attention to detail is very impressive, because it takes a lot of patience and a long attention span to learn this type of stuff and really nail the nuances. But, yeah, that's totally his bag — he's been into that kind of thing. He's just great to have onboard."
Asked if Tom has contributed at all to the songwriting on "Torn Arteries", Bill said: "Nah. To be honest, the bulk of the material was written a very long time ago. Once we were up and running, we added to that. Given the history of the band, the fact that it goes back so far, to the '80s, it's kind of a difficult thing to bring in a new guitar player and expect him to be a contributor. 'Cause live is one thing, but the studio is like a microscope kind of situation where everything, stylistically, becomes very, very noticeable. That was the same thing that happened with 'Surgical'. Some people perhaps didn't see the sleeve notes or read the sleeve notes, but they had the impression that there were two guitarists on the record, but there weren't. It's such a lengthy process recording this type of music, or at least with this band — I assume it's probably the same for other bands in our genre — but it's just one thing that makes things move a little bit quicker, if you've got one guitar player doing as much as possible."
"Surgical Steel" sold around 8,500 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 41 on The Billboard 200 chart.

MÖTLEY CRÜE's NIKKI SIXX Is 'Training Like Crazy' For Upcoming Tour
MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist Nikki Sixx says that he is "training like crazy" in preparation for the opening night of the band's upcoming "The Stadium Tour" with DEF LEPPARD, POISON and JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS.
"The Stadium Tour" will kick off on June 18 in Jacksonville, Florida and will mark CRÜE's first live dates since wrapping its 2014/2015 farewell tour. The band toured with POISON back in 2011 and DEF LEPPARD teamed up with POISON for a string of road dates in 2017 — but the upcoming jaunt marks the first time all four acts have hit the road together for an extended tour.
Asked in a new interview with Westlake Magazine & West Luxury Magazine how he is getting ready for the upcoming trek, Sixx said: "I train like crazy for tours. You don't want to step onstage and not have double the stamina as the length of the show. I do fasted cardio, weight training and HIIT (high intensity interval training). I eat 2,250 calories a day. And then, of course, there is building stamina around my bass playing. I've got to be ready to go fast and hard for 90 to 120 minutes while jumping around like a madman and singing background vocals. You don't just wing rock 'n' roll. It's a sport."
Sixx's latest comments echo those made by MÖTLEY CRÜE manager Allen Kovac, who revealed in a recent interview with Fox Business that "some of" the members of the band were working with trainers and nutritionists to get in shape for the upcoming reunion tour. Kovac was referring to criticism of singer Vince Neil for his supposed diminished singing ability and weight gain, as well as the health status of guitarist Mick Mars, who has been dealing with a chronic form of arthritis that led him to undergo a hip replacement.
Kovac explained: "Some of them are working with a trainer, some of them are working with a nutritionist to make themselves the best they can be. The greatest insecurity for an artist is: Is anyone going to care about my music? Is anyone going to buy a ticket? We were in November when the discussions were happening, and these guys were already into regimens of how they get ready for a tour."
Speaking specifically about Neil, Kovac added: "Let's see what Vince sings like and looks like when the tour goes out."
This past December, Vince told "Extra" that "there's a lot of sacrifice" involved in getting ready for a tour of this magnitude. 'You have to do everything that you have to do — because from running around clubs to running around theaters to running around arenas to running around stadiums, there's a whole big difference," he said. "You've gotta be ready for it."
During a 2014 interview with SouthFlorida.com, Neil was asked if he has a daily regimen to stay in shape while on the road. "You're running for two hours on stage every night. That pretty much keeps you in shape," he replied. "It is a regimen. Usually on the day of the concert, I'll get to the [venue] around 4 p.m. We always have a meet-and-greet at 5:30 p.m. Then I go relax on my bus until 8 p.m. I get dressed and I'm onstage at 9. That's the way it is every day."
In a 2011 interview with the San Antonio Metal Music Examiner, Vince talked about the differences between singing for two hours on stage every night and athletes and ordinary people running 26.2 miles for two hours. "Yeah, it's two different kind of marathons," he said. "I use a pedometer, and I run just about 10-12 miles a night. It's different, though. One thing that's different is you're singing. And you do stop and talk to the crowd. But what these athletes do, it's amazing."

MAX And IGOR CAVALERA To Bring 'Return Beneath Arise' Tour To America
During a recent chat with That Metal Interview, Max Cavalera was asked what his plans are for CAVALERA CONSPIRACY, the band he formed nearly a decade and a half ago with his brother and fellow founding SEPULTURA member Igor Cavalera. "We are just paying tribute to our old records," Max replied (hear audio below). "We played [SEPULTURA's] 'Roots' for a while, and last year, we did a lot of 'Beneath The Remains' and 'Arise' together, and that was great. People love it, fans love it, especially in Europe and South America. Some of the South American shows are on YouTube; you can see [footage from] Mexico and Chile, and the crowd is singing every song. Those records are so iconic; they're masterpieces of that era. So we're gonna do more of that. We're gonna bring it to America, probably in the summer, with probably another cool band, have a cool package. So that's pretty much what I'm doing with Igor right now — just paying tribute to our old stuff."
In 1996, Max exited SEPULTURA after the rest of the band split with Max's wife Gloria as their manager.
Igor left SEPULTURA in June 2006 due to "artistic differences." His departure from the band came five months after he announced that he was taking a break from SEPULTURA's touring activities to spend time with his second wife and their son (who was born in January 2006).
In a 2018 interview with Wall Of Sound, Max stated about revisiting the "Beneath The Remains" and "Arise" material on the current run of shows: "I had to learn those riffs again for the tour, and I had to rediscover the albums again. It was a really fun process, learning the lyrics again. I kind of fell in love with the albums again. I don't have a favorite — I like both together, and I think they're meant to be together. For some reason, they just feel right when you play them together. I was very young when I made them, so it made me very aware of my state of mind at the time. I feel like I'm pretty much the same guy. I'm [50] now, but I'm still a metalhead in the heart. I still have the teenage spirit. I'm a huge metal fan, [a] huge supporter of metal. That's just how it was when those albums were done. It's a blessing that I get to do that with my brother, especially after all we went through together and we didn't speak for 10 years. Now, it's good — we are in a good place, and our brotherhood is really good, and we're just having fun with this music... There's an energy and a real anger and real passion in those songs that translates into people losing their minds when they hear it. I don't even have to tell them, 'Circle pit' — they will do it themselves. It's just the power of music."
The current SEPULTURA lineup — featuring guitarist Andreas Kisser and bassist Paulo Xisto Pinto Jr. alongside Derrick Green on vocals and Eloy Casagrande on drums — released its latest studio album, "Quadra", on February 7 via Nuclear Blast.

BEHEMOTH Frontman NERGAL Looks Back On Unmasking GHOST Mastermind TOBIAS FORGE In 2014 - "I Wasn't Really Thinking Twice When Doing That"
During a conversation with Ultimate Guitar's David Slavković, Behemoth frontman Adam "Nergal" Darski looked back on unmasking Ghost leader Tobias Forge in the summer of 2014. At the time, the speculation regarding Tobias' identity was already present online, but yet to be officially confirmed three years later.
As reported, Nergal shared a FortaRock Festival backstage photo of himself and unmasked Forge, along with the caption: "If you have ghosts... U have everything ;)". Both Behemoth and Ghost were at the festival bill, making Darski's hint quite strong.
On whether he intentionally revealed Forge's identity, and if Forge was upset about it, Nergal replied:
"No. Kristen (Mulderig) - his manager and my good friend - she was, like, 'Oh, shit! Don't do that! Please remove it!' So I removed it but, obviously, it was too late. I was... look, to be completely frank with you, I'm very spontaneous when it comes to social media, which is probably one of the reasons why it's so popular and why people did that - there is no manager behind it, there is no hired gun behind it. It's Adam 'Nergal' Darski that's just being himself, just being spontaneous. I'm just basically showing a part of my world. I'm sharing that with the universe. That's it, you know? I mean, I'm showing as much as I can. But it's honest. And I was probably...
I wasn't really thinking twice when doing that. Obviously, I didn't put, 'Tobias Forge with me' or whatever; I just put a caption, like, 'If you have Ghost, you have everything.' But maybe that was too much of a hint for people. I mean, people have known before. If you just Googled it prior to (my Instagram post), his face was out there. The speculations were going on for years, and people would guess who he is. Somehow, I put the dot over 'i,' which I'm sorry for. I texted Tobias shortly after, but he was, like, 'Ah, man... It's fine, it's cool. I mean, it's gonna happen sooner or later, so fuck it.'"
According to an Instagram update from Nergal, found below, the band will re-issue their And The Forests Dream Eternally debut EP in May 2020. Originally a five track release in 1995, And The Forests Dream Eternally was re-issued by Poland's Metal Mind Records in 2005 with three additional songs taken from Behemoth's Bewitching The Pomerania EP from 1997.

REX BROWN On Hypothetical PANTERA Tribute Tour: 'I'm In'
Rex Brown says that he is up for teaming up with Philip Anselmo and Zakk Wylde for a special tour celebrating the music of PANTERA.
Brown made the comment in response to an interview "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott's longtime girlfriend Rita Haney gave last month in which she said she would "definitely" be in favor of Anselmo, Brown and Wylde embarking on such a trek.
Eight days after BLABBERMOUTH.NET first published Haney's remarks, Brown took to his Twitter to write: "I wanna make sure that ppl understand what I'm about to tweet.. It's not up to Rita to say what will happen, only what Philip & I say...I'm in!! Dig?!?!?"
Rita discussed the possibility of the former PANTERA members and the OZZY OSBOURNE guitarist paying tribute to Dimebag and his brother Vinnie Paul Abbott while speaking to "The Blairing Out With Eric Blair Show" on the red carpet of the Ronnie James Dio 10th Memorial Awards Gala on February 20 at the Avalon in Los Angeles.
She said: "I don't think there could be a PANTERA reunion, but I think that his two remaining brothers, Rex and Philip, if they wanted to honor Darrell and Vinnie, as far as where I'm coming from and what I believe Darrell would believe — because he was the most forgiving person that I know — I believe that he would be honored. It's kind of a cliché to say, but he truly would be grateful that he meant that much to them. And I think if they wanna honor their fallen brothers with a tribute, I think that that's great. But as far as trying to say put PANTERA back together, PANTERA tribute, this and that, no — that's distasteful without those other guys. But I think as a tribute, it would be a really great thing. Because I know, from a fan's point, if I hadn't been able to see them play or hear those songs — the songs, they mean so much to me; I can imagine [they do to] other people as well. I think it's great that they can at least see it performed, and by people that truly love 'em. So, yeah, I think it would be a really cool thing."
When asked to clarify if she would "be okay with a tour," she responded: "I definitely would. I'd wanna be at every show. [Laughs]"
Last year, Anselmo told Chile's Humo Negro that he would consider getting together with Wylde and Brown and performing PANTERA's classic songs in concert. "Well, Zakk is a busy man," he said. "He does his own band, he does stuff with Ozzy and all that stuff. We spoke about it maybe one time. And I think everybody — everybody — is… I guess they're like me. Keep an open mind about it. We'll see. But I know from all the hard work with [Anselmo's] THE ILLEGALS [project] here to make those songs right, all of us, we would have to take time off and really practice together and get everything perfect. So it's a lot of work. And I'm doing a lot of bands, man, right now. [But] if everything was lined up, I would do it — sure. Fuck yeah! Why not?"
Zakk was also open to the idea, telling "The Cassius Morris Show" last October: "When Saint Vinnie was still around, they were talking about it then. I mean, the way I always looked at it is it's a PANTERA celebration and an honor. I mean, every night I'm playing with Ozz, we honor Saint Rhoads [late Ozzy guitarist Randy Rhoads]. I'm playing the Randy stuff every night, and I'm blessed and it's an honor to do it. Basically, we're paying tribute to Randy every night — keeping his music alive.
"If we got together and we ended up doing it, it would be like… I just look at it like if Eric Clapton went out and was with Mitch [Mitchell, Jimi Hendrix's drummer] and Noel [Redding, Hendrix's bass player] and singing and playing Jimi's songs, and he's honoring Jimi, 'cause that was his buddy.
"No one's replacing anybody. No one's replacing Randy Rhoads — he was a one-off. Just like no one's replacing Jimi Hendrix and no one's replacing Dime [late PANTERA guitarist 'Dimebag' Darrell Abbott] — or Vinnie.
"If [LED] ZEPPELIN was going out, and if Jason's [Bonham] playing drums, no one's replacing his father. What they're doing is celebrating his father's greatness and what he achieved and all the mountains he conquered with ZEPPELIN.
"It's more of a tribute and a celebration than it is... You can't replace any of these people I'm talking about — they're all legendary guys. But, yeah, you're just celebrating all their achievements — that's all."
Talk about a possible PANTERA "reunion" intensified when Anselmo regularly joined Wylde's BLACK LABEL SOCIETY to perform PANTERA's song "I'm Broken" during DOWN's 2014 stint on the "Revolver Golden Gods Tour". That buzz only got stronger after Brown joined the jam on May 23, 2014 when the tour swung through Texas.
Up until his passing in June 2018, Vinnie remained on non-speaking terms with Anselmo, whom the drummer indirectly blamed for Dimebag's death.
Vinnie Paul and Dimebag co-founded PANTERA. When PANTERA broke up in 2003, they formed DAMAGEPLAN. On December 8, 2004, while performing with DAMAGEPLAN at the Alrosa Villa in Columbus, Ohio, Dimebag was shot and killed onstage by a troubled schizophrenic who believed that the members of PANTERA were stealing his thoughts.

YNGWIE MALMSTEEN Admonishes Lighting Technician At Monterrey Concert: 'Stop F**king Around' (Video)
Yngwie Malmsteen admonished the lighting technician at his Monterrey, Mexico concert for "fucking around with the lights."
The legendary Swedish guitarist was in the middle of an extended solo section during Friday night's (February 28) performance at Escena when he paused to address the audience and inform the tech in no uncertain terms that he wasn't pleased with his work.
"Okay. Thank you. I love you guys," Yngwie said into the mic, before adding: "Mr. Lighting Guy, Mr. Lighting Guy, stop fucking around with the lights and keep the lights on my guitar. I'm trying to play for the people. Por favor. Thank you."
Video footage of the moment in question can be seen below (courtesy of MB Live).
Last summer, Yngwie denied his reputation as a temperamental egomaniac, saying that he is a "creator" who likes to control every aspect of his art.
"There are quite a few misconceptions about me," the Swedish guitarist told Music Radar in an interview. "I think some people misunderstand what I'm doing; they believe I'm an egomaniac. The truth is, I'm a very focused person. My way of creating things is unlike rock 'n' roll musicians. I don't have a band; I'm not in a band.
"I look at it more like a painter who locks the door of the room and just paints," he added. "I do the foreground, I do the background. I frame it. Then I take it outside and say, 'Here's my painting.' I don't let anyone else put their paintbrush near it. People might think that's an egomaniac thing — no, it's an artist thing; I'm a creator."
Back in 2003, fellow guitar legend Steve Vai defended Yngwie, telling Georgia Straight that Malmsteen's reputation was misguided.
"I've known Yngwie since he came to America," Steve said, "and I think that people are intimidated by his confidence. He's so confident in what he does that maybe he comes off as cocky sometimes. I think to know Yngwie is to really, really like him, but to not know him is to think maybe he's pretty self-centered."
Yngwie gave an interview to Greece's Rock Hard magazine in which the legendary axeman explained why he hasn't worked with an outside singer on any of his albums following the release of 2010's "Relentless". Yngwie said that he prefers to handle the lead vocals on his albums himself nowadays because his previous "singers would always cause trouble; they would always be acting like they were special and they had something different to say or whatever… The singers always think that they're better than the keyboard player or they're better than the drummer."
Three years ago, Jeff Scott Soto, who sang on Yngwie's first two albums, 1984's "Rising Force" and 1985's "Marching Out", engaged in a war of words with the Swedish guitarist over the fact that Malmsteen claimed in an interview that he "always wrote everything," including the lyrics and melodies, and simply hired various vocalists to sing his material.
In the days after Yngwie's original interview with Metal Wani was published on BLABBERMOUTH.NET, several of the guitarist's former singers — including Soto, Tim "Ripper" Owens and Joe Lynn Turner — responded on social media, with Turner describing Malmsteen's statements as "the rantings of a megalomaniac desperately trying to justify his own insecurity."

WARBRINGER To Release 'Weapons Of Tomorrow' Album In April
Thrash metal force WARBRINGER will release its new album, titled "Weapons Of Tomorrow", on April 24 via Napalm Records. With this release, the SoCal five-piece has not only proven a true mastery of its craft, but has spurred the forward shift of an entire genre — transporting thrash metal into a brand-new era.
Building upon its internationally acclaimed blistering attack, with "Weapons Of Tomorrow", WARBRINGER showcases a refreshed technical approach and a heightened focus on unique lyrical and vocal style. The record takes the promise of the band's previous release, "Woe To The Vanquished", and carries it onward, presenting WARBRINGER at its absolute best to date — over 10 years into its career.
In celebration of the announcement of "Weapons Of Tomorrow", WARBRINGER has released a brand-new music video featuring a completely remastered version of its most recent single, "Firepower Kills", exclusive to the new album.
WARBRINGER vocalist John Kevill says: "'Weapons Of Tomorrow' contains two tracks you've previously heard, 'Firepower Kills' and 'Power Unsurpassed', which now appear on the record in new and improved form. 'Firepower Kills' is about advancing weapons technology. Modern science is an enormously powerful tool, and the human species must be very cautious about its use. This song looks at the last 100 years of scientific advances in weaponry and asks, 'Where does this lead?' Musically, it's a total thrashing burner, and the main riff 'evolves' throughout the song like the weaponry in the lyrics."
"Weapons Of Tomorrow" was recorded with acclaimed producer Mike Plotnikoff — producer on "Woe To The Vanquished" and for artists such as IN FLAMES and FEAR FACTORY — and mixed by Zack Ohren, who is credited for the mix on WARBRINGER's sophomore album, "Waking Into Nightmares", as well as his work with artists like MACHINE HEAD and IMMOLATION.
"Weapons Of Tomorrow" contains a variety of themes, presenting a self-contained concept with each track, but ultimately focuses on the over-arching notion of modern technology endangering society rather than advancing it.
John Kevill says about the lyrical content of "Weapons Of Tomorrow": "I put a lot of thought and detail into the lyrical content of this album. There's often a 'storytelling' component, in which the song's lyrics develop or turn along with the music and structure of the song. All in all, 'Weapons Of Tomorrow' contains elements of our previous album, 'Woe To The Vanquished', but takes them further and in new and exciting directions."
Regarding the band's advancing sound, Kevill adds: "While containing speed-driven burners like 'Firepower Kills' and 'Unraveling' and crushing stomps like 'The Black Hand Reaches Out' and 'Crushed Beneath The Tracks', 'Weapons Of Tomorrow' goes really big on the epic tracks, containing not one but four. Each has its own character. The forlorn and semi-ballad 'Defiance Of Fate' breaks serious musical ground for us and is like no song in our catalog. 'Heart of Darkness' and 'Notre Dame (King Of Fools)' offer different takes on a dark, black metal-oriented sound, and 'Glorious End' is a tragic war epic with a unique lyrical component."
"Weapons Of Tomorrow" track listing:
01. Firepower Kills
02. The Black Hand Reaches Out
03. Crushed Beneath The Tracks
04. Defiance Of Fate
05. Unraveling
06. Heart Of Darkness
07. Power Unsurpassed
08. Outer Reaches
09. Notre Dame (King Of Fools)
10. Glorious End
WARBRINGER is:
John Kevill - Vocals
Adam Carroll - Guitar
Carlos Cruz - Drums
Chase Becker - Guitar
Chase Bryant - Bass

SABATON Frontman JOAKIM BRODÉN Talks Nazi Accusations, Being Banned From Performing On 70th Anniversary Of The Battle Of Stalingrad (Video)
HeavyMetal.dk recently caught up with Sabaton frontman Joakim Brodén and discussed the band's latest album, The Great War, as well as the band's focus on historical events in their songwriting.
On accusations of being Nazi supporters:
"The first time was when we released Primo Victoria. It was banned in Germany because the first song, the intro was 'Through the gates of hell, as we make our way to heaven, through the Nazi lines..." And basically we had the word 'Nazi' in the intro. We had to send the lyrics for the whole album and they passed the censorship, so it was released and then the record label told us, 'For the next album, whatever you do, don't put the word 'Nazi' in the intro.' So we did it in the first verse instead.
We have also been banned. We were supposed to play on the 70th anniversary of the Battle Of Stalingrad in Volgograd, and they renamed the city for that day to Stalingrad again, and we were banned. We were booked to play, but a local politician saw 'The Ghost Division' and thought, 'These guys must be Nazis,' and lifted our visas so we couldn't go into the country."
Sabaton have released an official lyric video for "A Ghost In The Trenches", featured on their album, The Great War.
Historic Fact: First Nations’ scout and marksman Francis “Peggy” Pegahmagabow, credited with killing 378 Germans and capturing 300 more, was one of Canada’s most decorated soldiers and the deadliest sniper of World War I. He earned his notoriety in the Second Battle of Ypres where he established his reputation as a sniper and scout infiltrating German trenches, the Second Battle of Passchendaele when he led a lost battalion of reinforcements into position, and the Battle of the Scarpe when he braved heavy machine gun fire to resupply his company with enough ammunition to hold their defensive position. Francis enlisted in August 1914 and stayed until after the war ended in 1919 effectively serving and surviving the entire war before returning home.
