METALLICA - Watch "Leper Messiah" HQ Performance Video From Madrid

Metallica have released this new "Leper Messiah" performance video, filmed at WiZink Center in Madrid, Spain on February 3, 2018.

Metallica's next performance is the sold out April 15 date at Estadio Nacional in Santiago, Chile. Find the band's tour itinerary here.

Senckenberg researcher Dr. Torben Riehl and his colleague Dr. Bart De Smet from Ghent University in Belgium have named a previously unknown species of deep-sea crustacean in honor of the band Metallica. In a study published in the scientific journal PeerJ, the scientist named the organism after his favorite band and to also raise awareness. This creature has been discovered in the abyss of the northern Pacific while conducting environmental baseline studies as part of a broader environmental impact assessment for a potential future nodule extraction project, reports Phys.org.

"The powerful music of Metallica has accompanied me the majority of my life. Songs such as ‘Master Of Puppets' and ‘One' are outstanding masterpieces in rock history and I am thrilled to be able to give something back to the band by naming a new species after them!" says deep-sea scientist Dr. Torben Riehl of the Senckenberg Research Institute and Natural History Museum Frankfurt, Germany.

Artwork by Any Franks:

The newly discovered worm-like creature Macrostylis metallicola inhabits the Clarion Clipperton Zone, situated roughly between Hawaii and Mexico. It is adapted to depths of 4,132–5,055 meters and over 400 times the pressure of our atmosphere. Only up to 6.5 mm long it dwells in absolute darkness without eyes and is colorless. Its environment consists of manganese nodules –concretions of metallic elements several millions of years old that can range in size from very small to approximately the size of an orange. These contain valuable compounds, such as cobalt, copper, manganese, nickel and rare-earth elements. "The scientific Latin suffix '-cola' translates into 'inhabiting' and hence refers to the habitat of the Metallica species." explains Riehl and adds: "Because of the wealth of resources in this part of the deep seafloor it may soon be mined for minerals needed to meet the growing demand for raw materials." Understanding the baseline environmental conditions is important for developing science-based management plans and mitigation strategies to ensure biodiversity as well as ecosystem health and function are maintained.

Metallica commented saying: “We’ve played on all seven continents, made it into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and now… we’re a crustacean! Senckenberg researcher Dr. Torben Riehl and Dr. Bart De Smet of Ghent University in Belgium have discovered a new crustacean species in the depths of the northern Pacifica Ocean and decided to name it after some rock band… Welcome to our world Macrostylis metallicola!

“First of all, stellar name Dr. Riehl. Second, what an honor! Not only did Dr. Riehn name his discovery after a band as he has been a fan since childhood, The Thing That Should Not Be has a few things in common with us. The worm-like creature dwells in complete darkness, has no eyes, and is colorless. Talk about Blackened! It also lives amongst metallic nodules containing cobalt, copper, manganese, nickel, and rare-earth elements. So it basically lives in a rock stadium? Now that’s one metal crustacean!

“You just never know what you’ll find ‘lurking beneath the sea'.”

CROBOT Celebrate First Top 10 Hit With "Low Life"

Crobot and Mascot Records celebrate the band’s first Top 10 hit at active rock radio with “Low Life”.

Over the course of 28 weeks, national airplay has steadily grown reaching 944 spins at the format this week delivering this milestone moment for Crobot. The song has now exceeded two million Spotify plays, with over 580,000 views on YouTube.

Across all streaming platforms “Low Life” has received over 3 million plays, while cumulative streams for the repertoire on Motherbrain is nearing 5 million. Additional key radio stations in major markets continue to add the song at the format.

Singer Brandon Yeagley offers, “It’s an anthem about this outside perspective on the definition of a low life.  There’s a misconception that being a touring musician without a lot of money makes you a lowlife, but how is that really any different from the rest of the world? And, if that does make you a lowlife, we’re okay with it!”

Crobot continue to tour North America with plans to appear at multiple festivals in the coming months. Confirmed appearances are below, with more dates to be announced shortly.

Last month, Crobot announced the release of a signature coffee blend, Chupajava. The product is named after their song “Chupacabra”, previously released on the Something Supernatural album.

Brandon Yeagley offers, “How do you think I’m able to mount Bishop every night? A cup of Chupajava to make your day right.”

Guitarist Chris Bishop adds, “I don’t know... I haven’t tried it. Is it good?”

Crobot continue to tour North America with plans to appear at multiple festivals in the coming months.

Chupajava will be available at the merch booth in all markets, signed by the band.  The launch is in association with Austin, TX-based company Third Coast Coffee - a Fair Trade, Organic and Transitional coffee roasting company, importing directly from small farmer cooperatives through Cooperative Coffees.

The company shares, “Our years of experience as a small batch roaster give us the flexibility to roast to order.  We are in service to our clients, ourselves, and especially our farmers.”

SPELL To Release Opulent Decay Album In April; "Psychic Death" Music Video Streaming

Hypnotizing heavy metal band, Spell, will release its new LP, Opulent Decay, on April 10 via Bad Omen Records. Featuring ten tracks of prime, progressive heavy music rife with crepuscular atmosphere, Opulent Decay paints an aural vista where moonlit melody, strident heaviness and potent romanticism collide to startling effect.

Hailing from Vancouver, British Columbia, yet divining their art from the realm of nocturnal visions and fantasies, Spell have already proven themselves mighty chroniclers of the more supernatural quarters of the heavy music sphere. Recorded at Little Red Sounds studio in New Westminster, B.C., Opulent Decay is an emotionally charged psychic travelogue wreathed in mysticism. The album embraces harmonic guitar heraldry while also showcasing a band as adept at essaying a hymnal a capella piece like the beguiling "Ataraxia" as they are the wistful and melancholic "Dawn Wanderer", the pastoral-tinged and progressively slanted "Primrose Path" or the catchy and barnstorming title-track.

“Many bands find their third album the most difficult because they’re trying to recreate what they’ve already done; for us, it gets easier and better every time,” states Spell bassist / vocalist Cam Mesmer. “As ideas emerged during the writing process, we nurtured them and gave them all the time and care they needed to flourish and bloom.”

A sampling of what Opulent Decay holds in store can be experienced now as Spell releases a music video for the LP's lead track, "Psychic Death". Directed by Sean Edwards of Toronto based film collective Ramble Films, the "Psychic Death" video showcases Spell at the height of its powers. Watch the video below.

"I've been close to underground music for most of my life and like to keep my foot in it artistically to help promote the scene and bands I admire so i'm glad I contacted Cam early to try and create something for the release," says Edwards. "This one was pretty experimental with how it came together based on some themes we had discussed and really brings the song to life, visually."

Spell's debut, 2014's Full Moon Sessions, and 2017 LP, For None And All, are proof positive of an outfit - completed by drummer and co-vocalist Al Lester and guitarist Graham McVie - whose grasp of diverting dynamics matched their infectious songcraft. However, these were apparently mere preludes to Opulent Decay, the band’s third and finest record to date.

In addition to the lyrical influence of romantic poets like Keats, Shelley and Coleridge, there's an underlying concept to Opulent Decay, as Cam explains: “All of the songs deal with the contrast between opulence and austerity, and the decay that results from imbalance. Our drive to avoid suffering is strong, but it can be overcome by the love for another and the desire to put them before yourself. Opulent Decay examines this balance and the dangers that await on either side of the pendulum."

Divining its art from the realm of nocturnal visions and fantasies, Spell has already proven to be  mighty chroniclers of the more supernatural quarters of the heavy music sphere.

“Music, like dreams, exists in feeling rather than explanation," continues Mesmer. "In sleep, the strangest things can elicit joy or terror — this is why dreams are so difficult to articulate. Creating music, for me, is similar; often, I’ll wake in the dead of night with a powerful feeling or melody in my mind, not connected to reality in any concrete way. I’ll then leap out of bed to try and capture it before it disappears!”

TRAVELER Return With Termination Shock Album In April; Title Track Streaming

Just over a year after the release of their successful debut self-titled album, Canadian true-metal merchants Traveler have returned with the high-voltage long player Termination Shock. The album will be released April 24 on Gates Of Hell Records. The title track is streaming below. Preorders available here.

The buzz on Calgary’s Traveler reverberated throughout the international metal community in 2019. Their self-titled debut album quickly caught fire upon its release, with fans mesmerized by the band’s patented blend of old-school riffing, rafter-reaching vocals and dueling lead guitars. Traveler also proved their worth in the live arena, actively playing dates in their native Canada, the United States and also delivering the goods to rapturous European audiences, in particular, a well-received spot on Germany’s Keep It True festival. Realizing that now was the right time to strike for the ever-important album number two, Traveler has returned in 2020 with Termination Shock.

Tracked during the latter months of 2019 and early 2020 by producer Jan Loncick, Termination Shock captures Traveler in full stride, their indomitable blend of early speed metal theatrics and classic metal know-how fleshed out even more thanks to the bevy of ideas from founding member and primary songwriter Matt Ries. Ries admits he approached Termination Shock the same way he did for Traveler’s first demo — with no expectations, simply writing for the pure sake of enjoyment. Ries spent the better part of 2019 assembling the tracks for Termination Shock, fine-tuning the songs right up until Traveler hit the studio. However, Ries had some additional help this time — vocalist Jean-Pierre Abboud wrote lyrics to every song but one, bassist Dave Arnold contributed a song from his previous band, Striker, and JP Fortin of Deaf Dealer gifted Traveler with a composition of his own.

Termination Shock benefits from more variety in Traveler’s arsenal — the album features some of the band’s fastest songs to date, complemented by an array of mid-tempo juggernauts and even some more progressive-leaning arrangements. The album title — provided by Arnold — laid the foundation for Abboud’s elaborate science-fiction storytelling, while cover artist Dylan Barstad once again perfectly illustrated Traveler’s world.

An album that will meet the demand in every way: more speed, more solos, more harmonies and more blistering vocals, Termination Shock shows that Traveler has no intention of succumbing to the sophomore slump.

Tracklisting:

“Shaded Mirror”
“Termination Shock”
“Foreverman”
“Diary Of A Maiden”
“STK”
“After The Future”
“Deepspace”
“Terra Exodus”

HEATHEN To Release 'Empire Of The Blind' Album

San Francisco Bay Area metallers HEATHEN have set "Empire Of The Blind" as the title of their new album, due later in the year via Nuclear Blast Records.

A flyer showing the "Empire Of The Blind" artwork can be found at the merchandise table during "The Bay Strikes Back" 2020 European tour featuring TESTAMENT, DEATH ANGEL and EXODUS, the latter of which includes HEATHEN guitarist Lee Altus.

"Empire Of The Blind" is the follow-up to "The Evolution Of Chaos", which was released as a 10th-anniversary remastered reissue on January 31 via Mascot Records. The effort was made available on CD/DVD, 2LP and digitally with a previously unreleased bonus track, "Seasons Of Purgatory". The CD/DVD was accompanied by a two-hour "making-of" documentary on the album as well as a live performance from 2009's Thrash Domination in Japan.

When "The Evolution Of Chaos" was originally released back in January 2010, it was HEATHEN's first full-length collection of new material in 18 years and saw them ride a wave of the resurgent thrash scene. The band's recording lineup consisted of vocalist David White, guitarists Lee Altus and Kragen Lum, bassist Jon Torres and percussionist Darren Minter.

HEATHEN is often credited — alongside EXODUS, TESTAMENT, FORBIDDEN, DEATH ANGEL and VIO-LENCE — with being one of the leaders of the Bay Area thrash metal scene of the mid-to-late 1980s.

Since its 1984 inception, HEATHEN has gone through several lineup changes, leaving Altus as the only constant member.

To date, HEATHEN has released three studio albums: 1987's "Breaking the Silence", 1991's "Victims Of Deception" and the aforementioned "The Evolution Of Chaos".

HEATHEN in 2012 inked a deal with Nuclear Blast Records.

Altus has been a member of EXODUS since 2005. He joined the group as the replacement for Rick Hunolt, who left EXODUS to concentrate on his family life.

For those of you in Europe going to the Bay Strikes Back tour with Testament, Exodus and Death Angel... Did any of you...

Video: TWISTED SISTER's 'Burn In Hell' Covered By Pennsylvania's WISDOM IN CHAINS

Stroudsberg, Pennsylvania's WISDOM IN CHAINS has released a music video for its version of the TWISTED SISTER classic "Burn In Hell". The clip was filmed in the band's practice space and was originally livestreamed on social media.

As viewers from around the globe chimed in with comments (some complimentary, some taking the piss) including Hoya (MADBALL) and Craig Setari (SICK OF IT ALL) ask for a song request. After turning down quite a few, the unlikely request for TWISTED SISTER comes in, which the band is only too happy to fulfill — though this is a much more brutal hardcore punk version than the '80s glam metal original.

Speaking on the tune, WISDOM IN CHAINS released the following statement: "We always loved TWISTED SISTER and maintain till this day that they are the best band to ever wear make-up. Musically they are so catchy, and vocally, Dee [Snider] is one of the best in the game. 'Burn In Hell' has it all — the evil vibe, it's hard, straight up.. we love this jam!"

WISDOM IN CHAINS is considered the working man's hardcore band espousing blue-collar ethics with a raw n' direct approach. The group has been going strong for close to two decades and has completed international tours with such mainstays of the genre such as MADBALL, H2O, COMEBACK KID and many more. Their latest album, "Nothing In Nature Respects Weakness", was released in 2018 via Fast Break! Records.

LINDSAY SCHOOLCRAFT Reveals The Inspiration For "Savior" Single - "What Happens To The Person That Is Doing The Saving?"

Vocalist / solo artist Lindsay Schoolcraft, formerly of Cradle Of Filth, has revealed the story behind her song "Savior", the first single from her new solo album, Martyr.

Lindsay: "Many songs are written about wanting to be saved, but what happens to the person that is doing the saving? This is what I wrote 'Savior' about. People have leaned on me for comfort and at times it has left me feeling very drained. When Rocky (Gray / ex-Evanescence) sent me the demo of this song I felt it was 'time' to finally talk about this experience. To better convey the story we added Gregorian Chanters into the mix: A dream come true for me as a recording artist!"

Lindsay recently issued the following update:

"Greetings, Schoolcraftians!. Yes, it's true, I DO have a newsetter! Right now you can get 3 free songs from Martyr by clicking the link below. This is also a sure way to get onto my mailing list, where I send exclusive monthly updates about my creative happenings. You'll also be the first to hear about new music, merch, and when I'll be in your city.

Martyr is available for streaming via Spotify here. Purchase physical copies of the album at SchoolcraftShop.com.

BAD AS Debut New Single / Video "Crucified Society"

Italy's Bad As have leaked the first material from their upcoming album, Crucified Society, due for release via Sliptrick Records on March 17th. It’s the title track and here’s the band's official comments:

“The song speaks of a society now compromised by the world of social networks. Where the population is the victim of a System, in which fame is the only way to be recognized and collecting 'likes', and therefore the esteem of others. The world collapses under this lifestyle and, not realizing it, people end up making absurd gestures to be hated and loved, aspired and envied, advancing in the rank of society with the sole purpose of image. Dignity is less and less and nothing personal and innovative is created, self-destructing. As the name of the song itself says, the 'Society of the Crucifixes' is where everyone tries to find the best way to appear, ending all martyrs of themselves.”

BRANDON GIBBS Releases New Single "Leave"

Brandon Gibbs is an explosive guitar player that has a powerful, soulful voice and a brilliant sense of melody that sets him apart from his contemporaries. Brandon’s songwriting takes you on an incredible journey throughout the performance, often transcending the genres of rock and blues. His heart and soul pour out of him on stage and through his music.

Listen to Brandon's new single, "Leave", available now via Golden Robot Records. Secure your copy at this location.

"'Leave' is an overview expression of what people ranging from children to adults deal with every single day. We all get hurt, we all get cheated and we are sometimes lied to. The defeat often sets in and we find ourselves just trying to cope and survive."

"But, imagine a world where the hurt had protection, more strength in numbers and a big voice with refuge from pursuit. Simply put, 'To live and let live.' If we want that dream to become reality, we all need to help and stand-up for one another. Let's become obsessed with the well-being of our brothers and sisters and watch the tides change. Leave that boy / girl alone unless you are coming alongside them to help and be an inspiration!"

Brandon Gibbs helped form the band Cheap Thrill, which featured two members of the multi-platinum band Cinderella. They toured nationally and internationally for two years. Brandon continued writing during his downtime, and his song, "This Town", was picked up by the John Force Racing Team and was eventually used for ESPN’s NHRA division for three consecutive seasons. In June 2014, Brandon joined forces with Rikki Rockett (Poison), Tracii Guns (L.A. Guns), and Eric Brittingham (Cinderella) to form Devil City Angels. Their first single, "All My People", which was actually previously written and recorded by Brandon and his twin brother, was used in the State Farm segment on the 2014 Monday Night Football Countdown. Devil City Angels released their self-titled record in September of 2015 which also featured three songs that Brandon previously co-wrote with his twin and another song that Brandon wrote about his grandfather, "Goodbye Forever".

KISS To Build Rock & Brews Biloxi Casino Resort

KISS are partnering with a development group to build a $200 million casino resort in Biloxi, Mississippi, reports Devin O'Connor of Casino.org - the world's online gaming authority since 1995.

Nearly a year ago, Arizona-based gaming and hospitality firm RAM Group acquired the 10.1-acre site of the closed Margaritaville Casino Biloxi. The 68,000-square-foot venue closed in 2014 amid a dispute between the casino operator and the landlord that led to a hotel never being constructed.

Now, RAM says it’s bringing in KISS to turn the vacant building into a rock ‘n’ roll-themed casino destination. RAM spokesperson Tom Moore said the project is being called Rock & Brews Casino, named after KISS’ Rock & Brews restaurant chain.

Plans call for a 300-room hotel. The casino will feature more than 1,000 slot machines and several dozen table games. Along with the hotel and casino, the resort will feature a 3,000-seat concert space, and KISS and other rock ‘n’ roll memorabilia.

LUTHARÖ Release "Wings Of Agony" Video

Lutharö, from Hamilton, Canada is unleashing their sophomore EP, Wings Of Agony, on March 27th. This release promises to be more innovative and imaginative than the last one, as Lutharö stepped out of their comfort zone for this recording.

Foreshadowing the EP comes a video for the single and the title track. The roller coaster of a song will bring out the worst of your anxiety and your deepest inner peace within six minutes. It is the perfect introduction to the new era of Lutharö that is darker than before, but still melodic and embodies the same amount of energy listeners have come to expect.

Lutharö's lyrics all come from a personal place and they hope fans will find a connection to the songs. As they state: “'Wings of Agony' is a song about the never-ending struggle to pursue a passion. In one moment you feel like you are soaring on cloud nine, things are going your way and you exude confidence. Then at the flip of a switch, you enter a moment of darkness where you feel lost and hopeless, never knowing when the light at the end of the tunnel will return. This is the never-ending cycle we embrace because we would rather be tortured in the process of pursuing our dreams than to give up on them. We want the fans to be able to relate to the strong message on this EP and find empowerment from it.”

The cover art and tracklisting for Wings Of Agony can be seen below:

"Barren"
"Diamond Back"
"Blood Lightning"
"Will To Survive"

LIV KRISTINE Issues Video Update On Recording / Release Plans For 2020

Former Leaves' Eyes vocalist Liv Kristine checked in last week (on February 26th) with an update on her recent round of recordings for Coldbound, her forthcoming solo album, and some upcoming guest appearances with Valkyre.

Upcoming live appearances with Valkyre are as follows:

April
30 - De Verlichte Geest - Roeselare

May
1 - Metropool - Hengelo, Netherlands
2 - Corneel - Lelystad, Netherlands
3 - Logo - Hamburg, Germany

Liv recently spoke with BraveWords scribe Carl Begai about her comeback in 2020 after a few years of self-imposed hiatus in the wake of being fired from Leaves' Eyes in 2016.

“After a few ups and down – a few roller-coaster rides to put it mildly, since I moved to Germany 20 years ago – I decided to start all anew,” Liv says. “I practically left everything, cleared all relationships, situations, or ended them. In 2019, I felt the spirit again to continue working on my own music. It was Tommy Olsson (guitarist / ex-Theatre of Tragedy) who reached out in 2016 with a handful of songs that really blew me away. He’s been very patient and supportive throughout my journey, and I have the best composer by my side. I just want to do the music which I love, which I am fully in alignment with. My upcoming solo album is a collaboration with Tommy. It’s in the veins of Vervain, but not at all like it. It is inspired by Tommy’s masterpiece, Aegis.”

Liv has always been a live performer and she makes it clear she will continue to do so as things get back on track. This begs the question as to whether any Leaves’ Eyes material will make it into her set. It’s a painful subject to be sure, but she left behind a legacy of six studio albums that would not exist without her vision.

“My setlist consists of two thirds solo songs, one third Theatre of Tragedy songs,” Liv reveals. “I could play Leaves’ Eyes songs since the band carries my name, but it feels strange, like a loss, which I feel really sorry about. I was thrown out of my own band, period, and that is just not right, especially because I never received any compensation, nor did anybody ask me about name rights. I wish the remaining two members would change the band’s name and do their own thing. None of them ever created a concept and wrote lyrics based on their personal history and birthplace, passion for Norway, and Norse writings. That part was mine, and it was passion, heritage and so much of me in there. The latest brilliant idea the band’s manager had was sending my family a bill of thousands of euros for Christmas. Well, I wish them good luck. Karma is great, by the way. What you give is what will return to you. But, I can’t tell you how endlessly happy I am with what I have today. Everything was and is meant to be.”

CREMATORY Release "Rise And Fall" Single And Music Video

German pioneers of European gothic metal, Crematory, have released their third single, “Rise And Fall”, off the upcoming album, Unbroken, out via Napalm Records on March 6.

"Rise And Fall", as well as the expressive music video, showcases both melodic and mercilessly heavy side of Crematory's musical identity. They are spinning a web between their boundary-breaking origins and the newer, matured and more experienced approach the band developed while reflecting on own presence in the scene for the last 29 years. The single was created with OneSaidZero (Co-Production), who was also responsible for the remix of "Unbroken“.

While profiting from the signature sound trademarks - such as Felix Stass’ raspy vocals or the guitar-based brutality harmonized with melodic keyboard-samples - “Rise And Fall” strikes with its undeniable power and musical strength, like a phoenix of fire and ashes, uniting the industrial and gothic influences of this German sextet.

In this way, this melodic, heavy and empowering anthem of hope and rebirth connects all of the major goals Crematory set for their upcoming release: on the one hand underlining the significance of strength and determination, while, on the other, remaining faithful to the darker and existentially roots of the scene the band was born in in the 90s. Like the dichotomies between hope and despair, so does the vocal duet in “Rise And Fall” emotionally highlight the continuous, yet equally engaging battle of life forces, as well as the human struggle to find the way back into the light.

Accompanied by the equally impressive video, with “Rise And Fall”, Crematory pursue their conquest towards the dark Parnassus of gothic metal finesse, their spirit unbroken ready to face the challenges of life.

Crematory about “Rise And Fall”: “'Rise And Fall' symbolizes the “Tear Of Time” of the new age! With this song we have managed an absolute banger! I am sure that this track will be the new Crematory anthem!”

SILVERTHORNE Feat. Ex-WHITESNAKE/FOREIGNER Drummer BRIAN TICHY: 'Movin'' Video Released

SILVERTHORNE's music video for the song "Movin'" can be seen below. The track is taken from the band's debut EP, "Tear The Sky Wide Open", which was released on February 21 via Golden Robot Records.

SILVERTHORNE came together when vocalist/guitarist Pete Shoulder (WINTERVILLE, THE UNION) and drummer Brian Tichy (FOREIGNER, WHITESNAKE, BILLY IDOL) decided to finally collaborate on some songs together. Having run into each other over the years on various projects and tours, the two knew that given the chance, they could come up with something pretty special between them. The result is a set of exciting, soulful and earthy rock songs that tips its hat to the classic rock bands of yesteryear as well as looking firmly to the future. After drafting in Tichy's bud, Los Angeles-based bassist Daniel Spree, the trio was complete. Upon hearing the music, Golden Robot Records president and founder Mark Alexander-Erber reacted instantly and offered the band a record contract.

SILVERTHORNE says of its sound: "You may hear elements that are not unlike being at a LED ZEPPELIN concert with CREAM and FREE opening, while SOUNDGARDEN and QOTSA hang at the bar."

"Tear The Sky Wide Open" EP track listing:

01. Tear The Sky Wide Open

02. Roll Me Back Again

03. Black River Rising

04. Movin'

05. Haunted By The Dawn

LORDI - Pro-Shot WDR Rockpalast Video Of Summer Breeze 2019 Show Available

Germany's long-running WDR Rockpalast has posted pro-shot video of Lori's entire summer Breeze 2019 set. Check out the footage below.

The setlist was as follows:

"Sexorcism"
"Would You Love A Monsterman"
"Missing Miss Charlene" / "House Of Ghosts"
"Your Tongue's Got The Cat"
"Blood Red Sandman"
"It Snows In Hell"
"Rock Police"
"Naked In My Cellar"
- bass solo 00:41:43
"Hug You Hardcore"
"The Riff"
"Who's Your Daddy"
"Devil Is A Loser"
"Hard Rock Hallelujah"

Lordi released their tenth album, Killection, on January 31 via AFM Records. Not only is the album a brand new concept in itself - a fictitious collection of hits from the years and decades past - but it also brings a truly hidden gem into the daylight: one of the songs on the album is "Like A Bee To The Honey", which was written by KISS lead singer Paul Stanley together with Jean Beauvoir, known for working with names such as Bruce Springsteen, The Ramones and of course KISS. The song that had been collecting dust in Beauvoir's desk drawer ever since the end of the 1980's has now been handed down to Lordi.

"This is a tremendous honour to a band that wouldn't even exist without KISS. Simply having the privilege to listen to a song from the 1980's that no fan has ever heard before.. and then to get to be the artist that brings the song for everyone to hear - it is mind-blowing", Mr. Lordi states.

Mr. Lordi and the band's guitarist Amen had been making songs together with Jean Beauvoir as a trio, and one of these songs, "Scream Demon", made its way to the new album. It was during these songwriting sessions in Helsinki that the very existence of "Like A Bee To The Honey" came up: Jean thought the song would fit the new record perfectly, and the band was more than ready to get this rare gem on their album. The song is made even more unique by its saxophone solo - first one ever in Lordi's history - performed by the Hanoi Rocks legend Michael Monroe.

A lyric video for "Like A Bee To The Honey" can be found below.

Officially, Lordi were founded in 1992 by lead singer, songwriter, visual art designer and costume designer Mr. Lordi. The band has deep Finnish roots, originating from the city of Rovaniemi, in Lapland. In 2006 they celebrated their international breakthrough by winning the Eurovision Song Contest (“Hard Rock Hallelujah”). But is it possible that this is only a pale misperception of our poor, small, pathetic reality?

What if Lordi would have already been making music since the early 70's? And what if they have been releasing one hit single after the other since those times and now, almost 50 years later, are looking back on a full collection of songs that have been successful ever since? This is exactly the idea that Lordi are executing, with their newest studio album, Killection.

Killection will be released on January 31 via AFM Records. Once more Mr. Lordi, the master of the masquerade, presents us with one of his ideas, absurd and genius at the same time, and comes up with a concept that has never been done before in the music industry: Killection is a compilation album that simply says “what if” Lordi had been in existence since the early 70's. It contains all their imaginary hit singles from different periods done with painstaking attention to detail using authentic studios and vintage technology. This is how they would have sounded if Lordi would have made music back then and therefore would have had the hit material to release this compilation now.

This is how Mr. Lordi himself sums it up: "Killection is a fictional compilation album. It contains songs that Lordi would have written between the early 70's through the mid-90's. The compilation contains one "brand new" song from 2019 as well, cause that’s somehow always typical for compilations."

Killection tracklisting:

"Radio SCG 10"
"Horror For Hire"
"Shake The Baby Silent"
"Like A Bee To The Honey"
"Apollyon"
"SCG10 The Last Hour"
"Blow My Fuse"

"Zombimbo"
"Up To No Good"
"SCG10 Demonic Semitones"

JETHRO TULL's IAN ANDERSON Says LED ZEPPELIN's Tales Of Debauchery Are 'Probably Wildly Exaggerated'

JETHRO TULL mainman Ian Anderson has spoken about the long-delayed release of his new album, as well as his supposed "feud" with Robert Plant, in a brand new interview with Eonmusic. In a treat for longtime fans, the prog god has promised that the new set, his first since 2014's "Homo Erraticus" will be a brand new concept piece.

On his relationship with Plant, and LED ZEPPELIN, which stretches back to TULL's very early days as a support act to the rock icons, Anderson revealed: "We rarely spoke, particularly to Robert, who was on a higher plane, as a vocalist, and as a person. Jimmy Page was a little bit more friendly, but [John] Bonham, you steered a mile away from, because he was a raving nutcase. He was always polite enough to me, but I probably just saw him on a rare good mood. I think to some extent, the stories of LED ZEPPELIN being hellraisers who barged their way across America, there is an absolute element of truth about it, but probably wildly exaggerated."

Going on to talk about his so-called "feud" with Plant, Ian said: "I remember meeting Robert Plant, and he said, 'I hope we can put that behind us,' and I said, 'What?' And he said, 'Whatever it as we are supposed to be feuding about.' And I said, 'Exactly.' We never had a feud, because we didn't really communicate. LED ZEPPELIN were LED ZEPPELIN. They were rock gods, and we were the humble support act."

On the progress of his new solo album, Anderson said: "It's another of those albums that is loosely defined as being 'progressive rock.' It's a thematic, conceptual album that has, I think, quite carefully considered lyrical references. But giving the game away saying, 'Well, this is what it's about,' it rather takes the fun out of it for people who are going to look behind the lyrics and see what is the common thread."

He continued: "This interview might have concluded with me saying, 'Yeah, I've just finished the last mixes of the new album,' but the reality is that yet again, I had January and February set aside for working to complete the new album, and that has just disappeared. So, I can confidently predict that sometime in the next 10 years, this album will be released."

Newly Discovered Sea Creature Named After METALLICA

“You just never know what you’ll find ‘lurking beneath the sea.’”

IHSAHN Talks Revisiting His Black Metal 'Musical Roots' On New EP 'Telemark'

EMPEROR frontman Ihsahn (real name: Vegard Sverre Tveitan) recently discussed his new solo EP, "Telemark", with Italy's "Heavy Demons" radio show. The full conversation can be streamed below. A few excerpts follow (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On whether he agrees with the sentiment expressed in the title of "Rock And Roll Is Dead", the Lenny Kravitz song cover on his new "Telemark" EP:

Ihsahn: "No, I wouldn't say so, but I think the statement was very valid... Beyond the song being an amazing rock song and kind of like an aesthetic inspiration for the sound I wanted for the 'Telemark' EP, it also kind of connected well, I think, with that kind of old-school black metal attitude, where it's not about commercial forces or money or all the superficial stuff. It's about the core music, and I think by all the intent, that is the message of 'Rock And Roll Is Dead'. It dies when it goes from the kind of core, artistic motivation that made you play this kind of music at the start of it, and it gets overshadowed by all the superficial aspects that might with it if you become successful. It [has] a similar kind of core feeling and attitude that I guess I felt at home with."

On his black metal-influenced "Telemark" EP:

Ihsahn: "The reason how this whole project [took] shape, it's kind of pulling together a lot of different facets. This is a conceptual idea. I work with very particular concepts for every kind of recording or release. I wrote this very much in collaboration with Heidi, my wife and creative partner. She wanted to challenge me to do a more only black metal kind of release. She also suggested I do it in Norwegian. The musical aesthetics, I wanted to write the music for typical drums, bass, two guitars, screaming vocals — to write the whole EP for that kind of ensemble, very bare bones like how I started out. Deciding on all the black metal vocals, it was back to my musical roots, if you will. When that was settled, it made sense to go back to my geographical roots and also my cultural roots. It just made a lot of sense to combine all these elements into 'Telemark'. This has been a thing also from the early EMPEROR stuff. We feel very much at home here, and I think every EMPEROR show is introduced, 'From Telemark, Norway.'"

On why he decided to release two EPs:

Ihsahn: "Some of the motivation for me to doing these two EPs in a series – the first one comes out in mid-February, and the second one, about six months after that — the second EP will be kind of exploring the opposite side of the first EP. I guess all my albums are slightly — hopefully — a variety of expressions, but still, I always want my albums to be very cohesive. I kind of work on the subconscious ideal of an album that is very balanced and feels like the songs form a larger whole, like classic IRON MAIDEN albums — not just a collection of songs that happen to written in that period. There needs to be some common denominator for all of them. That would kind of limit how far you can go. The title track for the 'Telemark' EP, which has kind of a folkish element to the riffs, I don't think I would find a place for those kind of tone colors in a solo album. This made it possible for me to explore even outside of what I have been doing, and I hope in many ways I can do the same thing with the second EP. That's some of the motivation for doing this. I've been releasing a full-length album every second year since I was 16. Now, I'm 44. It was a good opportunity after seven solo albums to do something else. Also, I've been playing more live shows. In 2018, I did my first tour, and I want to extend the release of the EPs with live shows building on the same aesthetics. I will do shows following the first EP with extreme shows, where I pick a setlist and do a performance based on the aesthetics of this EP, and hopefully following the second EP, I will do a totally different setlist and totally different show that leans on the aesthetics of that EP. I think my record company was slightly concerned, because most people in this style of music, they [look] at EPs as like leftovers that are dropped before the second round of touring. This is something else. I wanted the recordings of these new songs would be part of a bigger project... It was influenced by how music is perceived now, that the release of an album is not really that big a deal. People relate to music in shorter formats in some way, and the more important, exclusive aspect of it is really back to the live performance. It kind of made sense to try to bind it together."

On whether he misses anything about the early days of EMPEROR:

Ihsahn: "I don't think there's anything I miss. Not at all. What was important back then is that I got to spend all my professional time — my passion for music became my work. EMPEROR has been so important in leading up to me being able to do this for my whole grown-up life. I still get to explore; I still get to challenge myself and release, record and create music; and I get to play shows all over the world, both with EMPEROR and [as] Ihsahn. I don't miss being super-broke and having really hard touring conditions and things being very chaotic. I'm very, very pleased with where I'm at in my life."

On "Lords Of Chaos":

Ihsahn: "I haven't seen it. I haven't read the book. I guess it's kind of counter-intuitive given the EP, but on the general whole, I'm really not that nostalgic."

On why he doesn't often listen to metal:

Ihsahn: "It's what I do. It's not that I'm bored of it, but it's probably like a chef trying to come up with new recipes from eating and preparing the same food over and over again. Sometimes, you need those other influences, especially in musical genres and ways of creating music that I have no experience with, where I'm surprised and I discover musical elements — sounds or chord combinations or clusters of sound — that inspire me, and I feel I might implement that into my own palette or repertoire."

Ihsahn released "Telemark", the first of two new five-song EPs, on February 14 via Candlelight. The effort represents the heavier side of Ihsahn's music, while the companion EP — to be released at a later date — will show his more progressive side.

Icelandic Black Metallers DYNFARI To Release New Album In April, Confirm Two Shows For Roadburn Festival 2020

Icelandic black metal band Dynfari are pleased to announce that they will release Myrkurs er þörf on April 17th via Code666.  The band will present the new album at the Roadburn Festival in the Netherlands with two exclusive sets on April 18th and 19th, one focused on the previous album, The Four Doors Of The Mind, and a second show presenting the new album.

The band commented: “Myrkurs er þörf is Dynfari's 5th studio album. Having explored more progressive soundscapes in our blend of post-rock and black metal in our most recent works, this album marks a return to more DIY, punch and attitude. An introspection on thoughts of suicide and self-destruction, the essence of bleakness and suffering defeat from the shackles of your own mind, the album's direction is toward a darker, heavier side of the musical spectrum, expressing a violent refusal of merely becoming a means to an end.”

Myrkurs er þörf will be released on CD and vinyl formats.

Tracklist:

"Dauðans dimmu dagar"
"Langar nætur (í botnlausum spíralstiga)"
"Myrkurs er þörf"
"Ég fálma gegnum tómið"
"Svefnlag"
"Ég tortímdi sjálfum mér"
"Peripheral Dreams"
"Of Suicide and Redemption"

Check out the band's previous album, The Four Doors Of The Mind, below.
