IRON MAIDEN's NICKO MCBRAIN: Drum-Cam Video Of Rock N Roll Ribs 10th-Anniversary Performance
On December 14, THE MCBRAINIACS, the band featuring IRON MAIDEN drummer Nicko McBrain, performed at the 10th-anniversary celebration for Rock N Roll Ribs, the barbecue restaurant owned by McBrain and close friend Mitch Tanne, in Coral Springs, Florida. Joining THE MCBRAINIACS on stage for five songs was former JUDAS PRIEST and ICED EARTH singer Tim "Ripper" Owens.
Owens played the following tracks with THE MCBRAINIACS:
01. Wrathchild (IRON MAIDEN)
02. Flight Of Icarus (IRON MAIDEN)
03. Living After Midnight (JUDAS PRIEST)
04. You've Got Another Thing Comin' (JUDAS PRIEST)
05. Breaking The Law (JUDAS PRIEST)
Drum-cam footage of the performance can be seen below (courtesy of Rogger Diego of JLR Films).
A barbecue joint with a musical bent, Rock N Roll Ribs showcases its love for smokey Southern cooking with food like barbecued pork and chicken and clever takes on MAIDEN songs, like "Run to the Hills" wings.
"It's not just MAIDEN fans that come in," McBrain said about the restaurant in a 2010 interview. "We do get a lot of pilgrimages, people come in and look at all the stuff on the walls, but most people that come in always come out satisfied. And it's not major expensive. A rack of ribs is [$20], and you get a pound and a quarter to a pound and a half of ribs."
Asked if he has always been a BBQ fan, McBrain told Broward Palm Beach New Times in a 2013 interview: "Yeah! You know, I'm a Brit, and we don't have a very long summer, so it's very few and far between people get out and do a barbie in the backyard. Touring around America, I always used to love buying a rack of baby backs and some cole slaw and French Fries, and that was my main BBQ experience, the baby backs. Then a friend of mine taught me how to make the ribs we make in the restaurant, and I started to make some sauce, and it was very successful and people liked it, and that's where Rock N Roll Ribs was born, really. It was a dream we had and it finally came into fruition. I've got to be honest, it's not a business that's making a lot of money for us, but we make a lot of people smile and a lot of people happy. I'm very happy, it's great! I love it when I meet people and they say things like, 'these are the ribs I've ever had,' or, 'Your pulled pork is to die for,' and it warms the cockles of me heart!"

ADEMA Will Release New Music To Coincide With 2020 Tour
This past summer, hard rock band ADEMA officially recruited longtime friend Ryan Shuck (JULIEN-K, ORGY) to take on vocals for the band's most recent tour. He joined the group as the replacement for original vocalist Mark Chavez, who returned to ADEMA in 2017 after previously exiting the group twice.
Speaking with RadioactiveMike Z, host of the Riverside, California radio station 96.7 KCAL-FM program "Wired In The Empire", ADEMA guitarist Mike Ransom said (hear audio below): "This year was the reconnection of the band with the fans. Then 2020, when we come back out, we're gonna have new music. I don't know what exactly that's going to look like. We're going to make the music — we're gonna write the music, we're gonna record the music. Amir Derakh [ORGY, JULIEN-K] is going to produce. And I don't know how we're going to release it, but I just know that if it's not the best thing we've ever come up with, we're not putting anything out."
According to Ransom, fans shouldn't worry about ADEMA's latest singer switch drastically altering the group's sound. "Ryan does have a completely different vocal style, but the thing that you can't really explain or categorize is that when he's singing the songs, it feels the same — the feeling is the same; it's the same energy, even though it's a completely different style," he explained.
"We're definitely looking to do music that's very true to ADEMA fundamentals, if you will. We're sticking to our roots — things that have always been part of ADEMA, like heavy guitars, heavy vocals, melody with cool electronica, big drums. All those things that we have always done. High-energy music."
A couple of months ago, Shuck confirmed to Jiggy Jag TV that he is a permanent addition to ADEMA's lineup. "I think at this point, I'm pretty dedicated, yeah," he said. "I'm not here to do this tour and then, Hey, thanks.' These guys wanna do it, I wanna do it, and I'm now really interested in the potential of what we can write together. Because I know these guys write great songs, and I've been immersing myself in their music. So, no, I'm not here for the short term; I'm here to do this with them."
Chavez originally left ADEMA in 2004 due to "creative differences" after two successful albums, "Adema" and "Unstable". The singer — who is the half brother of KORN frontman Jonathan Davis — quit ADEMA again in January 2011 in order to pursue his "solo project." He rejoined the group again six years later and played his first comeback show with ADEMA in May 2017 at the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, California.
After Chavez's original exit from ADEMA, the other members of the band found their way with new lead singers Luke Caraccioli and later Bobby Reeves, while Mark founded MIDNIGHT PANIC with his cousin Peter Shubert. He also produced fellow artists.
ADEMA's last release was 2013's "Topple The Giants". The group's first CD since 2007's "Kill The Headlights" contained brand new tracks plus re-worked versions of ADEMA's chart-topping hits "Giving In" and "Unstable". | +2

MORBID ANGEL's STEVE TUCKER Says TREY AZAGTHOTH's 'Whole Life Is About Just Serving This Idea Of Making Music'
"The Thunderhead Show" recently conducted an interview with MORBID ANGEL bassist/vocalist Steve Tucker. You can now listen to the chat below.
Speaking about what motivates MORBID ANGEL to keep going more than 30 years since the band's inception, Tucker said: "I think just trying to do something that releases what's inside; I think that's really what drives the people that make up MORBID ANGEL. I think it's sort of a necessary release. I think for Trey [Azagthoth, guitar] to write songs — if you've ever met Trey, he's sort of a different kind of person. He's said it since the day I met him — his whole life is about just serving this idea of making music. So, I think it's just that inner drive, that inner necessity that will make MORBID ANGEL last over 30 years."
Regarding the MORBID ANGEL lyric-writing process, Tucker said: "Through the years, it's been a combination. Trey's always written lyrics, and I've written lyrics pretty much my entire time in MORBID ANGEL. The first album I was on, [1998's] 'Formulas Fatal To The Flesh', Trey wrote literally every second of the album. But since then, starting with [1990's] 'Gateways [To Annihilation]', I wrote pretty much almost lyrics to almost every single song."
Tucker also talked in more detail about where he gets the inspiration for his lyrics. He said: "It really comes from what's going on in my head anyway. The main way that I write lyrics is I just listen to things repeatedly until lyrics start to happen. And that's just where they come from. It's about a vibe. I think MORBID ANGEL has always been about a vibe, and the lyrics are about sort of the verbal end of that vibe. You have the visual, you have the audio, and then, of course, you have the verbal end of it, which isn't always necessary in music."
Earlier this year, Tucker said that MORBID ANGEL was preparing to begin the songwriting process for the follow-up to 2017's "Kingdoms Disdained" album.
In April 2018, Silver Lining Music released a special two-disc digipack edition of "Kingdoms Disdained", featuring seven instrumental demo tracks previously only available as part of the deluxe box set.
"Kingdoms Disdained" was released in December 2017 via Silver Lining Music in the U.S. and JVC in Japan. The disc, which reunites founding guitarist Azagthoth with Tucker, was recorded at Mana Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida and produced by MORBID ANGEL with Erik Rutan (CANNIBAL CORPSE, HATE ETERNAL, SIX FEET UNDER, BELPHEGOR).
Joining Azagthoth and Tucker during the recording sessions for "Kingdoms Disdained" was drummer Scotty Fuller (ANNIHILATED; formerly of ABYSMAL DAWN)
MORBID ANGEL in January 2017 announced the addition of Dan Vadim Von (guitarist/frontman of the American death metal band VADIMVON) to the band's lineup on second guitar. He joined the group as the replacement for Norwegian guitarist Destructhor (a.k.a. Thor Anders Myhren), who left the band almost five years ago.

PRETTY MAIDS Singer RONNIE ATKINS Is 'Still Positive And In Good Spirit' Four Months After Lung Cancer Diagnosis
PRETTY MAIDS singer Ronnie Atkins says that he is still undergoing radiation and chemotherapy four months after being diagnosed with lung cancer.
"At the end of this month I'll be done with some 33 radiation treatments and a few days later I'll receive my 4th and hopefully last series of chemo therapy," he wrote in a December 20 post on his official Facebook page. "During all this I've had no midway results nor status on what kind of effect the treatments have had on my cancer and I won't get any conclusion from the medical staff on what my situation is untill sometime in January where they can judge the full impact of the treatments.
"What I can tell you is that both the chemo and radio therapy has been rather merciful to me compared to what I had expected and feared. Of course there's been and still are side effects, but in generel I'm in both good physical and mental shape. So despite everything I'm still positive and in good spirit, and I can't wait to return to the stage and do what I love the most again in 2020.
"Finally and once again Let me express my sincere thanx to all of you out there who's been faithfully supporting me and constantly been cheering me up in all this. I'm forever thankfull"
The Danish musician broke the news of his diagnosis in October via the band's Facebook page.
He wrote in an open letter to the PRETTY MAIDS fans that his illness "came totally unexpected without any typical symptoms."
All of PRETTY MAIDS' previously announced shows were canceled and all of the group's plans were put "on hold" while Ronnie is undergoing treatment.
Formed in early 1982 by Atkins and guitarist Ken Hammer, PRETTY MAIDS quickly established itself as a band to be taken seriously. In April 1987, "Future World", the band's third album recorded in the USA, was released to great acclaim and is still today regarded as a "classic."
After the release of the follow-up album "Jump The Gun" (produced by DEEP PURPLE's Roger Glover), PRETTY MAIDS in 1991 were on the verge of a breakup. However, Hammer and Atkins found a new rhythm section and in 1992 released the "Sin - Decade", a record that would reveal that PRETTY MAIDS was still a force to be reckoned with, despite the fact that the metal scene now was overrun by the grunge movement. "Sin - Decade" became a huge success in Japan and gave the band a big radio hit with the single "Please Don't Leave Me", laying the foundation for the band in the East that would last for the next decade.
During the ensuing years, PRETTY MAIDS continued to release albums usually followed by European and Japanese tours.
In a 2013 interview with Myglobalmind, Atkins joked that the secret to keeping his voice in shape was "twenty cigarettes a day and little drink now and then."
PRETTY MAIDS' latest album, "Undress Your Madness", was released in November via Frontiers Music Srl.
As promised a little update on my current situation in regards to my illness.
At the end of this month I’ll be done...

DENNIS WARD Explains His Exit From PINK CREAM 69, Says The Band Has “No Life Right Now”
Rockpages TV recently interviewed former Pink Cream 69 bassist Dennis Ward and he spoke about his recent exit from the band, when vocalist Andi Deris left for Helloween, and the current state of Pink Cream 69.
On Andi Deris’ departure:
“Show me a band that they had success right after the singer left… Unless it was a death. Death seems to make your band interesting, you know, and he didn't die. He just left. There was a lot of mudslinging back then as well.”
If Pink Cream 69 is underrated:
“Time wasn’t on our side. Then the ‘90s came along. We made a big mistake making the one wrong record and then we sort of stop taking shit serious enough. Or we took it too serious. We didn't have a good balance. I think Pink Cream was basically lots of bad luck. We weren't fish, we weren't meat. For one audience we were too hard, for the other audience we were too soft. And I think a lot of your hard rock crowd, especially metal fans, they want a definite sound. Are you this, or are you that? You know… and we probably would have done better if we were either more AOR, or more metal and not so crossover, you know, that was probably a big mistake.”
Why he left Pink Cream 69:
“There's no life in Pink Cream right now though. There's nothing to lose. We have no loss. It's not like the band falls apart… sad story! Nothing like that. It's just sort of slowly dissolved. Like bubbles in your beer, you know, it's still a beer but it's has less bubbles. So, I told the guys I think it'd be a good idea to get someone to replace me in this situation. I'll be there if you want to do some touring… Some real stuff. I'm ready to go! If not…”

Watch BRET MICHAELS Perform English/Spanish Version Of POISON's 'Every Rose Has Its Thorn' With 'American Idol' Singers
Bret Michaels has shared a video of a never-seen-before English and Spanish version of POISON's sole chart-topping single "Every Rose Has Its Thorn". Joining Bret for the performance, which was filmed at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, were "American Idol" singers Ace Young, Jeremiah Richey, Diana DeGarmo, James Durbin, Brandon Rogers and Elena Lansen.
In the official video description, Michaels's team calls the rendition "an awesome example of music being the universal language, bringing all together and calming our souls."
"Every Rose Has Its Thorn" was originally released on May 3, 1988 on POISON's second album, "Open Up And Say... Ahh!", and was written by Michaels, C.C. DeVille, Bobby Dall and Rikki Rockett. The tune was issued on October 12, 1988 as the third single pulled off the album, following "Nothin' But A Good Time", which peaked at No. 6 and "Fallen Angel", which topped out at No. 12.
Michaels recalled that outside of the band, there was a somewhat cool and mixed reaction to "Every Rose Has Its Thorn", telling Billboard: "There was not a lot of love for the song, because it was very different sounding from what was happening at that moment. We had hits with 'Talk Dirty To Me', 'I Want Action', and although 'I Won't Forget You' from '(Look What The) Cat Dragged In' did good, that wasn't. if the label had its... When I say label, Capitol/EMI pushed ['Every Rose Has Its Thorn'] back till the third single on 'Open Up And Say... Ahh!' and I'm not even sure they were gonna do that, because the first two exploded the record to over, like, three million, and then in their eyes, they're like, 'That's a success.' And I'm like, 'No, this song means the world to me.'"
Michaels remembered it being the moment that POISON was catapulted into a different class of hitmaker. "When it exploded like that, it crossed over into Top 40 country; it crossed over into Top 40 pop," he said." Y'know what I mean? Like real pop radio at the time, which at those times was Madonna, George Michael, Prince. That's who you were going up against. And all of a sudden, it was a No. 1 song at pop radio, and at rock radio, and it crossed over into Top 40 country. And so you definitely felt — it wasn't a shift, let's call it an addition to the fan base. There was a massive addition of people who became interested in POISON, interested in going to see the concert."
Michaels admitted that it's the ballads that really force him to dig deep and reveal what he's made of as a songwriter. "The toughest songs to write are good-time party songs," he said. "And let me explain that. People are always like, 'Oh man, 'Nothin' But A Good Time', that must have been an easy song to write.' It's not an easy song, because when you're partying and having a good time, there's no emotion in you that says, 'Let's sit down right now and write a song.' But you have something break your heart, you have a best friend like 'Something To Believe In', one of your best friends that you saw their face every day for years and years and years, die instantly over Christmas... What I'm saying to you is those moments are the toughest moments in your life, but oddly enough, the most defined songs and easier songs to write because you have an exact emotion... I've probably got 10 pages of lyrics, but I tried to then go back and capture the story so that it didn't become a 28-minute song."
After playing "Every Rose…" onstage every night for three decades, Michaels was asked how he feels about his only No. 1 hit to date, and said: "I honestly love playing it live. It's still, to me, it's not just good for me, but it's — the fans love singing it. If you go back and look even now, you go back to the arenas or amphitheaters and listen, everyone's singing the song. And for each person, it's probably meant something different. But for me, to be able to go out there and sing it and still do it this many years later is an amazing feeling. I still get chill-bumps on my arms doing that and knowing it's withstood the test of time."
POISON's upcoming "The Stadium Tour" with MÖTLEY CRÜE, DEF LEPPARD and JOAN JETT & THE BLACKHEARTS will kick off on June 21 in San Antonio, Texas and will include newly announced gigs in Kansas City, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Nashville, Cincinnati and Cleveland. The trek marks CRÜE's first live dates since wrapping its 2014/2015 farewell tour. The band toured with POISON back in 2011 and DEF LEPPARD teamed up with POISON for a string of road dates in 2017 — but the upcoming jaunt marks the first time all four acts have hit the road together for an extended tour. | +1

MACABRE Re-Sign With Nuclear Blast; New Studio Album Coming In 2020 (Video)
Nuclear Blast welcomes back Macabre, after over two decades since the last time the two entities worked together.
The Chicago legends of murder metal/death metal have come back recharged with the premier metal label and are making their entire discography available now with the prospect of a new album in 2020.
Watch the madmen of metal's return home to Nuclear Blast:
The band comments, "It's been a long time and now it's time for a blast from the past, we’re back on Nuclear Blast and it's time to kick some ass."
Label manager Gerardo Martinez comments, "The entire staff at Nuclear Blast welcomes the Murder Metal legends back into the house and looks forward to a murderous 2020”.
Formed in 1985, Macabre blends elements of true crime, math rock, nursery rhymes, punk, thrash, folk melodies, death metal, jazz fusion, black metal and more into an energetic, catchy and unmistakable amalgam. Murder metal, refers to Macabre's signature style. It's a genre of one. The all-too-true tales of man's inhumanity to man are delivered with knife-edge precision, interspersed with Corporate Death's patented (back when he was a toddler) screech.
Fast and heavy, with a focus on things that make happy shiny people cringe, the original members, Corporate Death (guitar and vocals), Nefarious (bass and vocals) and Dennis the Menace (drums) are still together. Macabre have brought mayhem to the world in the past decades, playing dozens countries over the years. Macabre's rabid fans, including members of bands ranging from Carcass to Slipknot, relish the band's tight and increasingly sophisticated music; they exult in their musical chops as much as in the band's sense of humor, their killer music, and its deadly subjects.
Macabre live dates:
July
9 - In Flammen Open Air 2020 - Germany
10 - Metal Magic Festival - Denmark
16 - Obscene Extreme Festival - Czech Republic
Lineup:
Corporate Death - Lead Vocals & Guitar

SONS OF APOLLO's MIKE PORTNOY Performs "Fall To Ascend"; Drum & Vox Cam Video
Sons Of Apollo - former Dream Theater members Mike Portnoy and Derek Sherinian, Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal (ex-Guns N’ Roses), Billy Sheehan (The Winery Dogs, Mr. Big, David Lee Roth) and Jeff Scott Soto (ex-Journey, ex-Yngwie Malmsteen's Rising Force) - will release their second studio album, appropriately titled, MMXX (pronounced: 20/20), on January 17 via InsideOutMusic/Sony.
In this new video, Mike Portnoy performs the new album's first single, "Fall To Ascend":
The Christian Rios-directed video for "Fall To Ascend" can be seen below:
In this track-by-track video, the band discuss the song:
Produced by The Del Fuvio Brothers (Portnoy and Sherinian), MMXX will be released as a standard CD package, Limited Edition 2 CD package (which includes instrumental mixes and a cappella excerpts), 2 LP + CD package, and on all digital formats. Pre-order here. Digital pre-orders come with instant downloads of “Goodbye Divinity” and "Fall To Ascend".
“Stylistically, we have followed the same path as the debut,” outlines drummer Mike Portnoy. “But we feel that it has come out stronger, simply because we know one another better. Psychotic Symphony was the first time the five of us had worked together, so there was bound to be an air of experimentation happening. Now, we can draw on having the experience not only of recording that album, but also of touring together a lot. And now there is clearly a lot more obvious chemistry going on.”
“We did 83 shows on the last tour,” adds keyboardist Derek Sherinian. “And it was so worthwhile, because we came out of it with a stronger bond, and that is certainly reflected in what we wrote.”
The writing process began at the start of the year, as Portnoy, Sherinian and guitarist Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal got together. “The three of us were at my home studio in Pennsylvania,” explains Portnoy. “And it took about three weeks to get all the music written. That was a very smooth process. The last time, it certainly must have felt a little weird for Bumblefoot to be writing with Derek and me, because we were strangers to him. Now, we know one another better and that helped things push along.”
“Because we all have our home studios, it meant everyone could record there as and when they had opportunity,” continues Sherinian. “We all had the luxury of being able to take our time to get all the parts done, which was a huge help in the way the album's come out. I suppose in all, it took about eight months to record everything.”
The lyrics were written by Soto, who also came up with the melody lines with input from Sherinian. “While Jeff was left to come up with the words on his own, as the melody lines are part of the music, it made sense for me to be involved with that part,” says the keyboard player.
There are eight tracks on MMXX, with variations in length totalling 60 minutes. “The final song is 'New World Today, which is 16 minutes long,” says Portnoy. “This one has elements similar to 'Opus Maximus' and 'Labyrinth' on the previous album. It has some insane, brilliant instrumental moments, which I am sure the fans will love.”
“We wanted to do something epic here, as we did with 'Opus Maximus' last time around,” adds Sherinian. “You have to remember that Mike and I come from Dream Theater, where we never bothered about how long a song was. So, for us doing a 16 minute track is not a problem.”
The album title was inspired by a simple chronological fact. “This will be released in mid-January 2020,” says Portnoy. “That means it will be one of the first releases in what is a new decade. So I came up with the idea of calling it '2020,’ except having it written in the Latin form of 'MMXX'.” And the album’s artwork has been created by Thomas Ewerhard (who was responsible for the cover design of Psychotic Symphony), which inevitably reflects the title. As Portnoy explains, “For the first record, we had a mythological feel. This time around though, there's a much more futuristic style to what we've got. It has a very 21st century appeal. And the band crest is more polished, cleaned up and a lot more modern than last time, when it had an old fashioned look.”
“Each member of this band has their own signature sound on their instrument,” adds Sherinian. “And when you put all of this together what you get is a wonderful five-headed beast. It makes this a sonically special band, which is definitely what comes across on MMXX. You can hear odd time signatures and amazingly crazy performances here. Overall, we've been satisfyingly more adventurous this time than we were before, and I know people are sure to love what we've done.”

"Welcome To The World" (Live in Brno 2019) video:
As Randy George explains: “After the Similitude tour, expectations were really high, and we had more people coming to these shows than ever before. People were really excited to see it, so we had to make sure that we delivered.”
Performing The Great Adventure flawlessly and in its entirety 47 times in 2019, Neal Morse (vocals, keyboards and guitars), Mike Portnoy (drums, vocals and audience cheerleading), Randy George (bass), Bill Hubauer (keyboards and vocals) and Eric Gillette (guitars and vocals) brought audiences to their feet night after exhilarating night: “The tour delivered every night. We never got tired of playing it, and it always paid off”, says George.
One of the countries was the Czech Republic, and it was there in Brno that the band chose to film The Great Adventour 2019 - Live In Brno, the definitive record of the tour, as George explains: “This was our first time playing in the Czech Republic and this venue had a different look and vibe: the audience also turned out to be very energetic. They loved it!”
The Great Adventour 2019 - Live In Brno shows The Neal Morse Band at the very height of their powers: extraordinary, passionate, intense and intricate rock music played to perfection by five masters of their craft, backed by dramatic video illustrations by Christian Rios.

THE WHO's PETE TOWNSHEND: 'We Sort Of Invented Heavy Metal'
In a new interview with the Toronto Sun, THE WHO guitarist Pete Townshend said that fans shouldn't be surprised that the band's first new album in 13 years, "Who", bears little resemblance to THE WHO in terms of that classic ferocious rock sound. "It doesn't sound like THE WHO from those early heavy metal years," he explained. "We sort of invented heavy metal with [our first live album] 'Live At Leeds' [1970]. We were copied by so many bands, principally by LED ZEPPELIN — you know, heavy drums, heavy bass, heavy lead guitar and some of those bands, like Jimi Hendrix for example, did it far better than we did. CREAM, with Eric Clapton and Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker, they came along in '67, same year as Jimi Hendrix, and they kind of stole our mantle in a sense. So people who want to hear that old heavy metal sound, there are plenty of bands that can provide it. So it's not really what we can actually do today. Even if we wanted to, it was never high on my list of wishes."
Townshend told The Pulse Of Radio that THE WHO was among the most versatile bands of its era, and that its musical talent freed him to write material that frequently covered many different genres. "The band THE WHO never gave me a clear brief," he explained. "They never said to me, 'We wanna be a comedy act,' but if I gave them comedy songs, they were brilliant at them. They never said to me, 'We wanna be a girl-friendly band,' but if I gave them a love song, they would do it brilliantly. They never said, 'We want to be a heavy metal group' — if I gave them a heavy metal song, they did it brilliantly. They could do anything — but they never gave me a brief. Where did I get my brief? I got my brief from the audience."
"Who" entered the U.K. chart at position No. 3, becoming the band's highest-charting U.K. LP in 38 years.
"Who" is THE WHO's first set of new material since 2006's "Endless Wire", which debuted at No. 9 in November of that year.
THE WHO's 1981's LP "Face Dances", which also entered the chart at No. 3, peaked at No. 2.
THE WHO has released 12 studio albums and topped the chart just once, with "Who's Next" from September 1971.
THE WHO has one of the greatest rock legacies in music history — they're one of the all-time great live bands, have sold over 100 million records worldwide and scored nine U.S. and 10 U.K. Top Ten albums and 14 U.K. top 10 singles in a career spanning six decades.

LINDEMANN Teases 'Ach So Gern' Music Video
LINDEMANN, the project featuring vocalist Till Lindemann of German industrial metallers RAMMSTEIN and Swedish producer and multi-instrumentalist Peter Tägtgren (HYPOCRISY, PAIN), has released a teaser for the music video for the song "Ach So Gern". The full clip will make its online debut on Thursday, December 26.
"Ach So Gern" is taken from LINDEMANN's second album, "F & M", which arrived on November 22. The follow-up to 2015's "Skills In Pills" was once again produced and mixed by Tägtgren.
In this renewed collaboration, the duo takes some unfamiliar and sometimes unexpected paths.
"Skills In Pills" reached gold status in Germany and was entirely in English. On this second opus, the rules have changed: German lyrics sung by Lindemann's unmistakable voice are set in an intense and unique musical composition.
The starting point of these new LINDEMANN songs was a collaboration between Lindemann and the Hamburg Thalia Theater in the context of a modern adaptation of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale "Hänsel & Gretel", which addresses topics such as fear, hope, poverty, abundance, cannibalism or death.
Five songs from this critically acclaimed play have been supplemented with six brand new masterpieces to form the impressive new studio work from LINDEMANN.
Tägtgren told Australia's Heavy about "F & M": "We actually started it right after the first one. We started writing this theater piece ['Hänsel & Gretel'] that they wanted us to work on. They wanted us to do a couple of songs for this 'Hänsel & Gretel' thing that they were doing, but they wanted more bizarre shit. Till was already involved with it, so they asked us if we could write a couple of songs for it, so we did. We did, like, two songs, and then we just kept on writing after that. That is the second time in a row when we started out with a couple and ended up with twelve or fourteen songs… I don't know what the hell happens."
LINDEMANN will embark on a European tour in February.

Swedish Heavy Rockers SISTER SIN Are Back
The "classic" lineup of the Swedish heavy rock band SISTER SIN will reunite during the summer of 2020. The group has announced that it will perform at the Gefle Metal Festival in Gävle, Sweden and Helgeåfestivalen in Knislinge, Sweden in early July before presumably hitting the road in other parts of the world.
SISTER SIN's 2020 lineup will consist of Liv Jagrell on vocals, Jimmy Hiltula on guitar, Andreas Strandh on bass and Dave Sundberg on drums.
Last Friday (December 20), Jagrell announced that her post-SISTER SIN outfit LIV SIN was "taking a little bit of a break" following the departures of guitarist Chris Bertzell and bassist Tommie Winther. The pair explained in a statement that their exit had been "in development for a while."
SISTER SIN announced its split in November 2015, saying in a statement that the band's "relentless" touring and recording schedule took its toll and "the motivation for some members just wasn't there anymore." However, the group left the door open for a possible comeback, saying: "It is our hope that the flame will burn once again and hopefully resurrect this Swedish bastard sometime in the future. Time will tell…"
Four years ago, Liv told Sleaze Roxx about the end of SISTER SIN: "We toured too much and we got burned out. That's the simple answer. They just felt like they did not want to do this anymore. [In 2015], we had been out for almost four months or something so it's a lot of time away from family. It's a lot of time away from friends. And also just to survive in the business is hard, so I think we maybe worked too hard in the last years."
SISTER SIN's fifth studio album, "Black Lotus", was released in October 2014 via Victory.
LIV SIN released two full-length albums, "Follow Me" (2017) and "Burning Sermons" (2019), as well as one EP, "Inverted" (2018).
BACK FROM THE DEAD!
We are super excited to announce that SISTER SIN will re-surrect in its most classic line-up during...

SABATON Unveils 'Seven Pillars Of Wisdom' Video Filmed In Sahara Desert
Swedish metallers SABATON have released a new cinematic music video for the song "Seven Pillars Of Wisdom", filmed under difficult circumstances in the Sahara desert.
The track deals with the topic of the British archaeologist, diplomat and officer T.E Lawrence and his adventures during the Great War where he convinces local rebels to join him on a sabotage mission against the Ottoman Empire.
A lot of technical equipment, cars and generators broke down in the heat of the sun, not to mention the treacherous sandstorms that constantly haunted the recordings. On top of that, the band was also involved in a serious car accident.
Despite all the difficulties faced, SABATON was able to produce the video in the way the band visualized and can now proudly reveal it.
Starring in the video as the main character is the Swedish-American actor Indy Neidell who is also the host of the "Sabaton History Channel".
The video was directed by the Tunisian filmmaker Mehdi Jouni.
"Seven Pillars Of Wisdom" is featured on SABATON's ninth studio album, "The Great War", released in July 2019 and highly praised by fans and critics around the world. A concept album about the First World War, it reached higher chart positions than all previous SABATON albums, including No. 1 in Germany.
Said SABATON bassist Pär Sundström: "Finally we can share this great music video with you and show you that our trip to the Sahara not only led to the car accident you have read about but actually to a great adventure and an even greater video.
"We initially investigated ways to film this video in other locations, even in studios with greenscreen but in the end we decided to go to a suitable location.
"I am very impressed with the band, the cast and the crew who all put in a lot of effort to make this happen."

Watch MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE Play First Show In Seven Years
The reunited MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE played its first concert in seven years last night (Friday, December 20) in Los Angeles.
Guitarist Frank Iero, vocalist Gerard Way, bassist Mikey Way and guitarist Ray Toro took to the stage at the 6,500-capacity Shrine Expo Hall with Jarrod Alexander on drums and kicked off the show with "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)".
Gerard Way dedicated the gig to Lauren Valencia, MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE's former manager who died from cancer earlier this year.
He added: "It's been a long time, Los Angeles. Thank you for being here tonight.
"We didn't know if this was ever gonna happen again, so we really appreciate you showing up."
Since the announcement of MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE reunion on Halloween, the band has scheduled five more shows, including three headlining gigs and three appearances at the Download festival in Australia and Japan in March.
MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE broke up in 2013, three years after the release of its fourth studio album, "Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys". Since then, Gerard Way released his debut solo album, 2014's "Hesitant Alien", and several standalone singles. He also saw his award-winning comic book "The Umbrella Academy" adapted into a Netflix series. Last month, it was revealed that Way would be scoring Kevin Smith's upcoming "Clerks" sequel.
Way's bandmates also pursued various solo projects. Iero released a pair of solo albums, and Mikey Way formed a group called ELECTRIC CENTURY. Toro briefly toured with a project called REGGIE AND THE FULL EFFECT, and released a solo recording in tribute to a transgender teen who committed suicide.
Reunion rumors first arose in 2016, when the group posted a cryptic video on social media. It turned out to be for a 10th anniversary reissue of the band's 2006 album "The Black Parade". The band stated at the time, "We are not touring and there is no reunion planned."

Video: STEVE HARRIS's BRITISH LION Performs In Norwich, England
Fan-filmed video footage of BRITISH LION's December 15 concert at Waterfront in Norwich, England can be seen below.
BRITISH LION is the side project of Steve Harris, bassist and co-founder of metal icons IRON MAIDEN.
BRITISH LION's second album, "The Burning", will be released on January 17, 2020 in digipack CD, double gatefold vinyl and digital download formats via Explorer1 Music (E1).
BRITISH LION comprises vocalist Richard Taylor, guitarists David Hawkins and Grahame Leslie, Steve Harris on bass and keyboards and drummer Simon Dawson.
Recorded, engineered and mixed at Barnyard Studios by Tony Newton and produced by Steve Harris, "The Burning" is crammed with powerful hard rock melodies, with two songs "Lightning" and "Spit Fire" being made available for immediate download from tomorrow with all album pre-orders.
Taylor said: "We've been working on 'The Burning' for the past couple of years and everyone is really pleased with the results. We started playing some of the songs live on recent tours and got a fantastic reaction from our fans so we are really excited to be sharing this album with the world. We're also looking forward to heading out on the road again and seeing everyone at the shows."
BRITISH LION has been tirelessly honing its live show performances with club tours every year and festival dates whenever time allows, building and establishing a firm and dedicated fan-base, reaching 24 countries across the globe so far.
Asked how the musical direction of BRITISH LION's follow-up effort will be different from "British Lion", Harris told The Metal Voice: "The band has evolved over the last five or six years live — we've played quite a lot of shows in Europe and stuff — so it's become more of a tighter band. I think we've found our direction is naturally evolving, and if anything, I think it's getting heavier than it was, really. It's very melodic. The songs are… I don't know… There's still kind of a UFO, THIN LIZZY type of influence, I think, in a lot of them, [and] there are influences too, but in general, I think we are getting just a little bit harder-edged, really. These days, I suppose there are some bands that make even MAIDEN sound like THE MOODY BLUES — there's some real, real heavy bands out there — so what I think is heavy and what other people think is 'getting heavier' is two [completely different things]. But we feel we're a bit harder-edged than we were. So it is a bit of a slight directional change, possibly. But it's been a natural thing; it's not something we consciously thought, 'Oh, we've gotta go this way.' It's just been the way we're playing our live shows — it's very powerful, much more powerful live than on record, I think. And I think with the second record, we've tried to capture that essence of what we are live more."
BRITISH LION's debut album sold around 3,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 3 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200. | +2

Former MEGADETH Guitarist CHRIS POLAND Is Working On 'Liar' Memoir
Former MEGADETH guitarist Chris Poland is working on a memoir with the help of Thom Hazaert, who recently co-authored MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson's "More Life With Deth". The book is titled "Liar: Truth, Highs, And Consequences", and will tentatively be released sometime in 2020, in partnership with Combat Records and Ellefson Books. It will also feature contributions from many others, including Ellefson, Stu Samuelson, Randy Burns, Mark Tremonti, John 5, and many of the other key friends and family that have been part of Chris's musical journey.
Hazaert commented: "Yes, I am writing a new memoir with my friend, legendary MEGADETH guitarist Chris Poland, and it is every bit as amazing as you'd think it would be. Also, David Ellefson and I are launching Ellefson Books, which will be the co-publisher of this incredible telling of Chris's journey."
The book's cover by Melody Myers from Designed By Melody, featuring an iconic photo courtesy of Neil Zlozower, can be seen below.
Poland was a member of MEGADETH from 1984 to 1987, during which time he performed on the band's classic albums "Killing Is My Business... And Business Is Good!" and "Peace Sells... But Who's Buying?" He is also a featured soloist on the group's 2004 album, "The System Has Failed".
For the past couple of decades, Poland's main musical focus has been the fusion band OHM:, which has released three full-length studio albums to date.
In a 2018 interview with the As The Story Grows podcast, Poland stated about nearly rejoining MEGADETH after the "So Far, So Good... So What?" cycle, and his belief that declining the band's offer to rejoin while renegotiating royalty rates led to his removal from the roster of Capitol, MEGADETH's then-label: "When I got my '[Return To] Metalopolis' deal with Enigma, it was originally on Capitol Records, but Dave [Mustaine, MEGADETH mainman] — he kept asking me to join MEGADETH again. I actually was 99 percent going to join MEGADETH, and then Janie [Hoffman], who was managing me, for two days, she told me, 'If you join that band, you're going to die.' I'm totally sober [at that point], and I'm not 100 percent sure that they are. She said, 'If they're not sober, and you join the band, you're not going to make it.' The first time I met her, I was coming off the bus going into the Santa Monica Civic Center to do a gig. She looked at Andy Somers, our agent, and said, 'He's going to be dead in a month.' And something happened. All of a sudden, I just hit bottom. After the firing, which was basically, I was late for a MEGADETH meeting — I couldn't get a ride. I didn't have a car. I couldn't get there. I finally get there. Dave's gone, so I can't get my $200 per diem, so I had no money. I call him up on the phone, I said, 'Dave, I couldn't get a ride. I'm here now.' He goes, 'Well, I don't care. You're not getting paid.' I said, 'You know what, man? Why don't you fire me?' I said, 'Oh, wait, I know why you won't fire me — because I don't think there's anybody that would put up with how you treat people.' We had a big blow-out, and two days later, I get a letter at my girlfriend's house saying, 'Your services are no longer needed, and have a good life.' I was like, 'Whoa!' That's when I hit bottom, about a month after that. I had no money; I was totally in a bad place; I finally just called home, and the rest is history. [Years later,] Janie finally said, 'Hey, man, you just got yourself a [record] deal. You have a deal to do what you love doing. Why are you going to do that?' I said, 'You know what? You're right.' I'm not saying she talked me out of it, but she was the voice of reason. I thought, 'There's a chance it could happen, that I could start using again.'
"At the [negotiating] table, they had told me that Marty Friedman was on the block for the position, and I thought, 'You know what? That makes it easy for me, because Marty's a freaking animal. I said, 'Hey, why don't you guys use Marty? I have this deal; I've worked very hard for it; and it was on Capitol.' They were upset — and granted, I understand, because they did all this work with our attorneys, and I'm sure that they felt like I did that just to get that money, but that's not what it was about. It was about, 'Let's make everything level here.' I didn't need money for drugs anymore; I just wanted what me and Gar [Samuelson] were due. We kind of got, like, tossed to the side there. I think they thought Gar was going to die. I had my deal with Capitol, and the next thing I know, I don't have a deal with Capitol. All of a sudden, I have a deal on Enigma now. It's a mystery to me to this day. I'm not going to say it out loud, but I have a feeling it had something to do with what happened at that table when Marty got the gig in MEGADETH. Now I'm on Enigma, a subsidiary of Capitol. To make me feel better, they gave me, like, an extra $50,000. I was like, 'Okay.'"
Regarding additional legal issues surrounding the 2004 reissue of "Rust In Peace", which contained demos on which Poland performed, Chris said: "When I did 'The System Has Failed', he was working on adding the demos to a re-release of 'Rust In Peace'. And I wasn't going to get paid, but I didn't realize that until it came out. I was like, 'Wait a minute — I'm not getting paid for this.' And I tried to call Dave at least a dozen times, and I never heard back from him. Then I called Dave's manager a dozen times, and he wouldn't get back to me. The last time I called him, I said, 'Hey, man. If you don't call me back, I'm going to call [my lawyer], and we're going to have to get into it.' [The manager] calls me back and totally insults me, saying, 'You played a couple solos. So what?' And I'm like, 'What do you mean, 'So what?'' 'Well, Dave thought that you would do it for the fans.' I said, 'Okay. Is everybody else that played on that demo doing it for the fans? Are they getting paid?' He said, 'Chris, that's not the point.' I said, 'Listen, man, we have to do something here. I'm not just going to walk away. I love the fans, but I'm just not going to do it. If everybody else is getting a performance royalty for this, I want one.' I want everybody to know that it wasn't a nuisance suit, it wasn't anything like that. I made every attempt to work it out, and they just ignored me."
Poland made a guest appearance on Ellefson's debut solo album, "Sleeping Giants", which was released in July via Combat Records. The song "Hammer (Comes Down)" marked Ellefson and Poland's first commercially released collaboration since "Peace Sells.. But Who's Buying?".
Earlier in the year, Poland signed to Ellefson's relaunched Combat Records label. Combat released a deluxe reissue of Chris's 1990 solo debut, "Return To Metalopolis", in November. Originally released on Enigma Records in 1990, "Metalopolis" was Poland's return to the stage after his 1987 departure from MEGADETH.
We have alluded to it in recent weeks, and now it's time to spill some beans. Yes, I am writing a memoir, with my good...

Watch RATT Perform In Montclair, New Jersey
Fan-filmed video footage of RATT's December 20 concert at the Wellmont Theater in Montclair, New Jersey can be seen below.
RATT's current lineup includes original members Stephen Pearcy (vocals) and Juan Croucier (bass), along with drummer Pete Holmes (BLACK 'N BLUE) and guitarists Jordan Ziff and Chris Sanders (BRITNY FOX, KNIGHT FURY).
Pearcy recently confirmed to The Metal Voice that RATT is planning to make new music available in 2020.
"The format of music and releasing and this and that is so different," he said. "I always release solo records, pretty much every year, just because I like to write and try different things, expressions and whatever.
"With RATT, we're gonna shoot for a record," he continued. "We're gonna probably release a couple of singles first. And see what happens. If it fires up, we'll go ahead and do a record. That's the easy part. Having the songs is the hard part. [Laughs] We'll release a couple and see what happens. Of course, we're hoping for people to get off on it. It's been quite a while."
Asked about the musical direction of the new RATT material, Stephen said: "Of course it's gonna be in the RATT norm. We get Juan [Croucier, bass] on backup vocals and we get him with arrangements and writing too. When we get into RATT writing mode, something just clicks there. We know what is RATT music and what isn't. But we'll see what happens. I'd like to get a little more melodically aggressive — something like the EP or in between [1984's] '[Out Of The] Cellar' and [1985's] 'Invasion [Of Your Privacy]'. We're shooting for some harder 'Ratt 'n' roll.'"
RATT hasn't released any new music since 2010's "Infestation" album.
This past January, Pearcy underwent knee surgery. The operation came three months after two disastrous RATT shows that saw the now-63-year-old singer incapacitated to the point where he had trouble remembering the words to some of the band's biggest hits. | +2

ARMORED SAINT's GONZO SANDOVAL Completes Drum Tracks For New Album
ARMORED SAINT drummer Gonzo Sandoval has completed laying down drum tracks for the band's new album. According to Gonzo, he recorded his parts for 11 songs over a six-day period at Eldorado Recording Studio in Burbank, California with engineer Josh Newell and producer and ARMORED SAINT bassist Joe Vera. The follow-up to 2015's "Win Hands Down" will be released in the fall of 2020 via Metal Blade Records.
Gonzo shared several photos of the recording sessions on social media and included the following message: "I'm so proud to be done with my Gonzo Drums of Thunder, drum tracks on the new ARMORED SAINT record, to be released in fall 2020 on Metalblade records !!! It was not easy!!! Engineer @josh.newell.recordings and producer @joey_vera did an excellent job recording, gathering the killer performances and creating these amazing drum tracks with today's technology! Feeling like I had 11 babies in 6 days!"
Last year, singer John Bush told the 96.7 KCAL-FM radio show "Wired In The Empire" that the band had "some songs" already written for the upcoming disc. "We don't want to wait too long before we put out a record, but on the same token, we thought 'Win Hands Down' is an amazing record and we're going to be hard-press to surpass it," he said. "ARMORED SAINT, it's kind of the way our career has gone. The way I see it, it's all about the quality, not the quantity, and I say that because I have to say that. It's true. I'd rather have 25, 30 years when we're all dead and gone and people look back on us and go, 'That was a cool band and they made some really cool records.' It's not like 'They made 20 records and maybe five of them were good and there's 15 bombs.' I don't want people to feel that way about ARMORED SAINT. I say that because we kind of have to do that because it's what our career has turned into. It would be cool to get out a record in less than five years. We went from 'Revelations' in 2000, to 'La Raza' in 2010. Granted, I was in ANTHRAX during that time. 'Win Hands Down' we cut in half and put it out in five. The tunes so far sound killer."
"Win Hands Down" was released in June 2015 via Metal Blade Records.
In the summer of 2018, ARMORED SAINT completed a North American tour commemorating the band's classic "Symbol Of Salvation" album. On this special run, the group performed "Symbol Of Salvation" in its entirety, with select shows recorded for a live DVD.

KATATONIA In The Studio?
Swedish metallers Katatonia featuring Bloodbath members Jonas Renkse and Anders Nyström appear to be working on a follow-up to 2016’s The Fall Of Hearts. In a
Facebook update they write:
“As we're moving into the holidays and 2019 is about to close its chapter, we’d like to extend a thanks to everyone who supported us this year! On the live front, we saw the night come down over several cities as NITND celebrated its 10th anniversary. Another dear experience! Oh and for the record, that's now our 4th album that we’ve played from start to finish, not bad right?
However, 2020 is the threshold to a new decade and will see us keepin’ busy for other reasons than paying tribute to our past. Actually, here’s a pic to give you a clue about what’s waiting on the other side... Will we see you there?”
Jhva Elohim Meth was the first studio recording by Katatonia and released originally as a demo in 1992 and was recently reissued on limited blue coloured vinyl by Peaceville Records. With the classic track “Without God” going on to be included on their legendary full length debut Dance Of December Souls, the demo displayed a startling maturity, with a sumptuous blend of atmospheric and melancholy death doom metal. A cult example of the darkness which was creeping into the early ‘90s extreme metal scene, Jhva Elohim Meth now remains an iconic entry into the metallic legacy of the Swedes.
The five track release was recorded at Gorysound Studio and produced and mixed by Dan Swanö (Bloodbath, Opeth) in July of 1992. Dan also contributed to the release with keyboards and some vocal passages.

DAVID ELLEFSON Says He's Been Back In MEGADETH For Almost A Decade Under A 'Gentlemen's Agreement'
In a brand new interview with Brazil's Lokaos Rock Show, MEGADETH bassist David Ellefson was asked if he ever imagined, when he "left" the band in 2002, that he would one day return to the group that he launched more than 35 years ago with MEGADETH leader Dave Mustaine.
"Technically, MEGADETH ended," Ellefson replied (see video below). "Dave called me and he needed to step away from MEGADETH in 2002. So we disbanded. He and I left our business matters intact. But a couple of years later, when he was ready to work, he wanted to do a solo album. And I think he's talked about this in his memoir and stuff. But the record companies and people, they really pushed him to, 'No, we need it to be MEGADETH.' So that started the calls to all of us about, 'Hey, okay, I've got an album written. I wanna make an album.' And the trick was just kind of how to try to put it all back together again, because Al Pitrelli had gone back to work with TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA; Jimmy DeGrasso was available, but doing some other stuff. I think the first attempt was to try to put together the 'Rust In Peace' lineup, with Nick [Menza] and Marty [Friedman]. And that just — it didn't connect. It was just a weird moment, and it just didn't come together. So, quite honestly, in my heart, was more, like, 'You know what? Let Dave just go do what he needs to do.' I was doing some other business things at the time. I was toying around, playing with… I had a little group called F5. And I was very realistic about the success of that — it was more just kind of a fun thing for me to do to write and explore some other things. But when it didn't work for us to connect, in my heart, I just said, 'You can never go back, but sometimes things come around the front again.' Which is exactly what happened."
He continued: "Dave and I had been in touch — we had been talking and we met a couple of times and talked about what it would be for me to come back and stuff. And there again, it just kind of took what it took. And then finally in 2010, Tom Araya from SLAYER had gone in to have a neck surgery. SLAYER and MEGADETH were scheduled to do a tour. And that really created this opening. And we were gonna go do the 20th-anniversary 'Rust In Peace' tour, and that was really the moment for me to come back. And honestly, I've been back for 10 years just on a handshake, as a friend, [with] just kind of a gentlemen's agreement. And it's really been great. It's been a lot of fun.
"To me, making music should always be about fun," Ellefson added. "There will always be money — there will always be enough money. And that's one of the lessons I learned — arguing about finances and business and stuff, sometimes it's, like, you know what? Just trust the good Lord's gonna provide, and play the songs, have fun with the fans and always be a friend to the band, be a friend to the organization, to the fans, to everything. And somehow, all the rest of it works itself out. David Lee Roth had a great quote. He said, 'Don't sweat the small stuff. And it's all small stuff.'"
Ellefson has been open about the fact that he became a salaried employee upon his return to MEGADETH in 2010, something he shared with the world in his latest book, "More Life With Deth".
Six years earlier, Ellefson declined to rejoin MEGADETH upon the band's reformation, citing concerns with the business structure he had in place with Mustaine.
When Ellefson eventually rejoined MEGADETH nine years ago, he was no longer as involved in the band's composing process and business affairs like he was prior to the group's breakup.
Ellefson was in MEGADETH from the band's inception in 1983 to 2002, when the group briefly broke up because Mustaine suffered severe nerve damage that left him unable to play. After Mustaine reformed MEGADETH with an all-new lineup in 2004, Ellefson sued his former bandmate for $18.5 million, alleging that Mustaine still owed him substantial merchandise and publishing royalties. In January 2005, the case was dismissed in court, and five years later, Ellefson rejoined MEGADETH.

METALLICA: Pro-Shot Video Of 'Moth Into Flame' Performance From Munich
Professionally filmed video footage of METALLICA performing the song "Moth Into Flame" on August 23 at Olympiastadion in Munich, Germany can be seen below.
"Moth Into Flame" is taken from METALLICA's latest studio album, "Hardwired...To Self-Destruct", which was released in November 2016 via Blackened Recordings.
METALLICA frontman James Hetfield spoke to Guitar World magazine about the lyrical inspiration for "Moth Into Flame", which describes a Britney Spears-like pop queen that crashes and burns. Asked if he had someone specifically in mind when he was writing the track, James said: "The 'pop queen' in the song is not really female or male. It's about how people think popularity or fame is going to solve their problems. Or whether fame should even be a goal for a musician. For us, fame has sometimes been a burden, like, how do we get rid of this thing? [Laughs] It's a Pandora's box that often makes you wonder, Okay, how do I become un-famous? Some people have felt that urge so strongly they've taken their own lives to escape it."
He continued: "The song was somewhat inspired by the Amy Winehouse documentary, 'Amy'. When I watched it, it really made me sad that a talented person like that fell for the fame part of it. But, to some degree, I see that mentality reflected in everyday life — people obsessively taking selfies and sending them to friends for validation."
Hetfield also talked about how "autobiographical" "Moth Into Flame" is, considering that the members of METALLICA were "pop queens" for a while during the "Black Album" period. "The 'Some Kind Of Monster' film is a prime example of believing that people need you in a certain way, and if you don't deliver, they'll hate you," he said. "I've experienced some aspect of that almost all my life. If you're not aware of it enough, the monster that is fame can swallow you up. During that period, we were being swallowed. We stopped caring about each other. We didn't care what METALLICA meant to us and other people. We could only see the ugly side and we wanted to get away from it. We couldn't see what was beautiful about our lives. Whatever you focus on, you start working toward, and at that point in our lives we were thinking, this is a hell for us. We lost perspective. Eventually we realized it wasn't about the fame and that we needed to care for the band and each other· That was a hard lesson to learn."
METALLICA will headline five major North American festivals next year, all of which are produced by Danny Wimmer Presents. The events are Epicenter, Welcome To Rockville, Sonic Temple Music + Arts, Louder Than Life and Aftershock. The band will play two separate headlining sets at each stop, with a unique setlist for each performance, resulting in 10 different shows.
These shows will be METALLICA's only U.S. festival appearances of 2020. The quartet will play on Friday night and Sunday night at each event.
To mark the 20th anniversary of METALLICA's first performance with the San Francisco Symphony, which resulted in the live "S&M" album and video, the band re-teamed with the symphony in early September for two shows for the grand opening of Chase Center, the new home of the Golden State Warriors.
A film of the concerts, called "S&M²", arrived in theaters worldwide in October. | +4

OPETH Bassist MARTIN MENDEZ Launches Death Metal Project WHITE STONES
OPETH bassist Martin Mendez has launched a death metal project called WHITE STONES. WHITE STONES has inked a deal with Nuclear Blast for the release of the band's debut album, "Kuarahy" (pronounced Kwa-Ra-Hee), due on March 20.
Mendez commented: "I feel very proud to release this album and being part of the Nuclear Blast catalogue couldn't be better!"
Jaap Wagemaker, A&R manager at Nuclear Blast, added: "It doesn‘t happen very often that when a manager is coming to the office to discuss matters about a band and then says: 'Would you be interested in listening to this? A new band I am working with.' Well if the manager is Andy Farrow, you know that this has to be good! Already after listening to two songs, we knew that this was special and that we wanted to work with this band! WHITE STONES is the perfect band for you when you are into old OPETH and MORBID ANGEL. Looking forward to unleash this beast."
The creative process for "Kuarahy" began during a year-long break OPETH took after the "Sorceress" tour as a means of unwinding by exploring new avenues of creativity. Initially, that's all it was ever meant to be.
"I've always written music at home but never had the confidence to do anything like this," Mendez said. "I never wrote a song, never presented something I wrote for Mikael [Åkerfeldt, OPETH singer/songwriter]. I didn't have any direction, I came up with the first song for fun.
"WHITE STONES has nothing to do with OPETH; I see no relation between the two.
"I played 'Kuarahy' to Mikael a few months ago. He really liked it and was happy for me.
"Everyone in the band has side projects; it's important. We tour so much you can become consumed by it. It has been really nice to do something different. WHITE STONES has renewed my strength and energy."
Named after Martin's birthplace in Uruguay, the record represents a return to his roots, both familial and musically. By exploring the forgotten paths of his ancestors via the style of music that remains his one true love — death metal.
"I feel strongly connected to Uruguay still," he reflected. "I wanted to write music related to that — the sun on the Uruguayan flag I transformed into the WHITE STONES logo; there are a lot of small things that connect the record to that place. 'Kuarahy' is the native Uruguayan people's word for 'Sun.'"
"Kuarahy" was recorded at the Farm Of Sounds studios in Barcelona and produced by Martin Mendez himself, while Jamie Gomez at the Orgone Studios in the U.K. was responsible for mixing and mastering.
"Kuarahy" track listing:
01. Kuarahy (1:24)
02. Rusty Shell (4:25)
03. Worms (3:57)
04. Drowned In Time (5:17)
05. The One (4:34)
06. Guyra (4:45)
07. Ashes (4:04)
08. Infected Soul (5:59)
09. Taste Of Blood (4:10)
10. Jasy (2:48)

WHITESNAKE Releases Music Video For 'Hey You (You Make Me Rock)'
The official music video for the song "Hey You (You Make Me Rock)" from WHITESNAKE can be seen below. The track is taken from the band's latest studio album, "Flesh & Blood", which was released in May via Frontiers Music Srl. The disc follows the 2011 critically acclaimed studio album "Forevermore" and 2015's "The Purple Album", a reimagining of DEEP PURPLE classics from WHITESNAKE mastermind's David Coverdale's time in that band. The 13 original, visceral tracks on "Flesh & Blood", the band's 13th studio album, are, luckily for you dear reader, "all killer, no filler", as the saying goes.
Coverdale stated about "Hey You (You Make Me Rock)": "This album, I'm really happy to say, contains a lot of what I would regard as WHITESNAKE anthems — total into the crowd, easy to remember, crowd involvement, which is what we love with the WHITESNAKE choir. I think this is gonna be a biggie. It's a great audience-involvement song about a beautiful, dangerous woman, of course, which is the very best kind."
Joining Coverdale on "Flesh & Blood" is the powerhouse band comprised of Reb Beach and Joel Hoekstra on guitar, Michael Devin on bass, Tommy Aldridge on drums, and Michele Luppi on keyboards.
Since joining the band four years ago, and just in time for 2015's "The Purple Album", Chicago native Joel Hoekstra has really come into his own, not only as a highly impressive axe-slinger, but also as a very accomplished songwriter too, co-writing six of the songs for "Flesh & Blood" with singer David Coverdale. Of course, Joel's talents are hardly surprising, considering he's the son of two classical musicians.
Guitarist Reb Beach, who originally joined WHITESNAKE in 2002, has stepped up to become the group's bandleader and guides the band to implement Coverdale's musical vision. As well as bringing his impressive musical chops to the band, Reb has co-written five songs on the new album, the fourth studio album he has appeared on, commencing with 2008's highly acclaimed "Good To Be Bad".
It was the "Good To Be Bad" follow-up, "Forevermore" (2011), that saw the debut of bassist Michael Devin. The New Englander's four-string-depth-charge-bass-bombs definitively underpin and drive the sound of WHITESNAKE in the 21st century.
Rounding out the rhythm section is David's longest serving 'Snake, the renowned drummer and unstoppable percussionist Tommy Aldridge, who has been with WHITESNAKE in some capacity for 30 years. Tommy made his debut with WHITESNAKE way back in 1987 in the "Still Of The Night" video, becoming a mainstay behind the kit for successive albums and tours.
Last, but certainly not least, the band is completed by the inventive keyboards and vocals of Italian maestro Michele Luppi, who made his live debut in 2015, as documented on "The Purple Tour" live CD/DVD (2018).

CYHRA Guitarist JESPER STRÖMBLAD Has Band's 'Full Support' As He Battles Depression
CYHRA vocalist Jake E says that he is not worried about the possibility of guitarist Jesper Strömblad leaving the band.
Strömblad has been sitting out recent live appearances by CYHRA for reasons that had not previously been disclosed. Continuing to fill in for him is Marcus Sunesson, who has previously played with ENGEL.
Asked in a new interview with Metal Covenant if he is concerned that Jesper might exit CYHRA, just like he has several of his previous projects, Jake responded: "Not [in] the least. I won't talk shit about other bands whatsoever, because I don't know about their background story. But the way I see it is that Jesper hasn't gotten enough support for his problems. In our band, he has 2000 percent support, and he has done everything he can."
Jake continued: "He toured with us for a year and he really felt like shit, because he suffers from social stress, for instance. He suffers from depression. He has problems with open spaces and crowded places. He has a hard time with traveling and not feeling that it's home. He has made one hell of a journey and has become free from all those drugs and alcohol and stuff. I don't think anyone can comprehend how bad he feels and how bad he's been feeling. Obviously, it's been up and down. But I would never put pressure on another person, like, 'You're gonna do this now, okay!' What we have said that this is our band and he does his part. He writes songs, he's playing with us, he's doing videos — I mean, to the extent that he is able to do so. But to put pressure on someone will only knock it over in the end, I think. And I think a big reason for him leaving bands is that he has put too much pressure on himself, started drinking again, made the band angry since he has screwed things up because he has tried to suppress his anxiety with alcohol or other substances, which makes gigs go straight to hell. Now he's in a program where he's fighting to get rid of these problems."
The vocalist added: "He has our full support. I'm not worried at all. If that day comes, he will come to me instead of reaching to a point in a band where somebody makes a fool of himself so that you look stupid. This band means everything to Jesper as well. He loves this band. If Jesper would say that he won't play with us anymore, he would say, 'Well, I'll step aside,' under controlled circumstances, if you know what I mean. Which, of course, I hope will never happen."
Strömblad quit IN FLAMES in February 2010 in order to continue receiving treatment for his alcohol addiction. He then formed THE RESISTANCE with Marco Aro (vocals, THE HAUNTED) and Glenn Ljungström (guitar, ex-IN FLAMES), only to exit that band in March 2016. THE RESISTANCE bassist Rob Hakemo later slammed Jesper in an interview, calling the guitarist "an alcoholic" and "drug addict" who "doesn't want to [get] sober."
CYHRA's second album, "No Halos In Hell", was released on November 15 via Nuclear Blast Records.
The band has just completed a European tour with BATTLE BEAST.
