BULLETBOYS - Original Lineup Plays Sold-Out Show At Whisky A Go Go; Video, Photos
The original, platinum-selling BulletBoys lineup, featuring Marq Torien, Mick Sweda, Lonnie Vencent and Jimmy D’Anda, performed last night (December 30) to a sold-out house at the Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood, CA.
Last nights show was the first time in nine years that the original lineup performed. Video below courtesy of Jessica Chase. Photos by Joe Schaeffer.
“I would never have guessed this reunion would have come about, but the world seems to have its own plan filled with peace, love and kindness,” said guitarist Mick Sweda. “And lots of ass kicking!”
Added vocalist Marq Torien, “I am completely ecstatic about this rad magical new beginning for us. It’s on!”
BulletBoys formed in 1988 at the very peak of the Los Angeles glam metal movement. As a collection of talented musicians, BulletBoys were able to quickly capture the attention of music fans around the world. Unlike other rockers of the day, the BulletBoys possessed more hard rock-blues fusion than pure hair metal. Thanks to comparisons to the likes of Aerosmith and Van Halen, talent scouts came running and the band quickly received their first major label contract.
BulletBoys’ self-titled debut was released in 1988 via Warner Bros. and peaked at #34 on the Billboard 200. The album spawned two hit singles, a cover of the O’Jays classic “For The Love Of Money” and “Smooth Up in Ya,” both of which charted on the Mainstream Rock Chart and saw regular airplay on MTV. BulletBoys went on to release two more albums, 1991’s Freakshow and 1993’s Za-Za, before splitting up.
The reunited BulletBoys is booked by noted agency ARM Entertainment. More than 50 shows are currently in the works in the US and around the world. BulletBoys also promises to deliver new music in the coming year.
“All’s well and ends well,” bassist Lonnie Vencent says. “BulletBoys 2020! Pigs are flying!”
Says drummer Jimmy D'Anda, “Does anybody remember laughter!?”
BulletBoys tour dates:
April
19 - West Hollywood - Rainbow Anniversary Party
July
25 - Beaver Dam, KY - Rock the Dam Fest (with Lita Ford and Ratt)

Originating from these musical roots, the debut album Eternal Cosmic Slaughter was released in 2004, and in 2006 The Inhuman Aberration was released by British label, Earache Records.

LAMB OF GOD Teases 2020 Studio Album
Richmond, Virginia metallers LAMB OF GOD have shared a video teaser for what appears to be their next album. The clip, which can seen below, features footage of the band in the studio and ends by displaying the LAMB OF GOD logo along with the number "2020," which presumably refers to the year when the record will arrive.
LAMB OF GOD's upcoming disc will be the follow-up to "VII: Sturm Und Drang", which was released in 2015 to global critial acclaim. The band has since issued the celebrated "The Duke" EP in 2016 as well as the cover album "Legion: XX" under its original name, BURN THE PRIEST, in 2018.
This past July, LAMB OF GOD officially parted ways with drummer Chris Adler. His replacement is Art Cruz, who has previously played with PRONG and WINDS OF PLAGUE, and filled in for Adler on several LAMB OF GOD tours in the past couple of years.
When Adler's absence from LAMB OF GOD's summer 2018 tour was first announced, he released a statement saying that he had been undergoing physical and occupational therapy for injuries he sustained in a motorcycle accident in late 2017.
This past January, Art was asked by American Musical Supply what it has been like making a transition between playing his own drum parts to reproducing somebody else's material. He responded: "Chris is my buddy, so to be sitting in his place while he situates his stuff, it's been tough, because it's my favorite band ever — that was my dream to even be up next to them. But it's been a little bit of challenge, because it's big shoes to fill. But I'm having fun with it, the band is having fun with it, and it's been great — it's been phenomenal."
Art went on to say that he didn't have to alter his playing style in order to accommodate LAMB OF GOD's music. "I've been looking up to the band, like I said, since day one, so they inspired me from the get-go," he said. "So I didn't have to change too much. I think I had to focus a little bit more. 'Cause I'm usually just kind of whaling. But I would say it's a little bit more focused and intense. Especially when there's, like, fifty thousand people staring at you, in relation to two thousand or five hundred."
Cruz made his live debut with LAMB OF GOD in July 2018 in Gilford, New Hampshire.

METALLICA Hits One Billion In 2019 SPOTIFY Streams
METALLICA's music was streamed one billion times on Spotify in 2019.
The heavy metal legends' official Twitter account revealed their streaming feat earlier today (Tuesday, December 31), adding that "1,026 decades of METALLICA music was streamed in 2019!" The group wrote: "Unreal! Thanks to the most dedicated fans in the world... you all are incredible!"
Back in December 2012, METALLICA made the first nine of its studio albums, as well as various live material, singles, remixes and collaborations, available for the first time on Spotify. The move was significant because Sean Parker, who co-founded Napster, later sat on the board of Spotify. METALLICA waged a battle with Napster more than a decade earlier over the illegal sharing of the band's music, which resulted in both legal action and a battered public image for the band.
At the press conference in New York announcing the Spotify deal in December 6, 2012 Parker and METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich appeared together and seemingly buried the hatchet. Ulrich said, "When [Parker] and I saw each other a few months ago. We could see that we had been put down as adversaries. We realize we had much more in common and sitting down was long overdue . . . We were younger, maybe somewhat more ignorant. We sat down and had a heart to heart."
In a statement at its web site, METALLICA said, "We are extremely proud to be a part of Spotify, who not only has a proven track record, but is by far the best streaming service."
METALLICA is able to make these deals directly since, as of 2012, the band has complete control over the master tapes of all its audio and video recordings. The band has also launched its own label, Blackened Recordings.
ONE. BILLION. STREAMS. 1,026 decades of Metallica music was streamed in 2019! Unreal! Thanks to the most dedicated fans in the world... you all are incredible! pic.twitter.com/8PBUNnnl19

CANNIBAL CORPSE Preparing To Begin Work On New Album
Florida-based death metal veterans CANNIBAL CORPSE are preparing to enter the studio to begin work on their next album. The new disc, which is tentatively due next year, will be the follow-up to 2017's "Red Before Black".
Earlier today, CANNIBAL CORPSE posted the following year-end message on social media: "Thanks for all your support of 'Red Before Black' and all our touring in support of the record. Time to enter the crypts and begin work on the next record. Keep supporting death metal in the new decade!"
"Red Before Black" was recorded at Mana Recording Studios in Saint Petersburg, Florida with producer/engineer Erik Rutan (SOILENT GREEN, BELPHEGOR, HATE ETERNAL), who previously worked with CANNIBAL CORPSE on 2006's "Kill", 2009's "Evisceration Plague" and 2012's "Torture".
Rutan made his live debut with CANNIBAL CORPSE at the opening show of the "Decibel Magazine Tour" in February in San Antonio, Texas. He played with the band as the temporary replacement for guitarist Pat O'Brien, who was arrested in December 2018 for burglary and assaulting a police officer while his Florida home was in flames.
Thanks for all your support of “Red Before Black” and all our touring in support of the record. Time to enter the crypts and begin work on the next record. Keep supporting death metal in the new decade!

AVENGED SEVENFOLD Loves BILLIE EILISH
The members of AVENGED SEVENFOLD have revealed their favorite albums of 2019. Four of the five musicians selected TOOL's "Fear Inoculum" and Billie Eilish's "When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?" as two of the year's highlights, while singer M. Shadows and guitarist Synyster Gates also picked Kanye West's "Jesus Is King". Elsewhere, M. Shadows and guitarist Zacky Vengeance named BRING ME THE HORIZON's "Amo" as one of the year's top releases.
Top albums of 2019, as selected by the members of AVENGED SEVENFOLD:

* TOOL - "Fear Inoculum"
* LANA DEL REY - "Norman Fucking Rockwell!"

* THE NATIONAL - "I Am Easy to Find"
AVENGED SEVENFOLD kept a low profile during 2019 and will not return to the road until next year. A blood blister on M. Shadows's vocal cords forced the band to cancel a summer 2018 tour with PROPHETS OF RAGE and THREE DAYS GRACE.
In September 2018, AVENGED SEVENFOLD released a new song called "Mad Hatter". The track was recorded for the "Call Of Duty: Black Ops 4" video game and was included on AVENGED SEVENFOLD's "Black Reign" EP. The effort contained all four songs the band has written and recorded for the "Call Of Duty: Black Ops" franchise.

Watch GRETA VAN FLEET Perform In Philadelphia
Fan-filmed video footage of GRETA VAN FLEET's December 30 concert at the Metropolitan Opera House in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania can be seen below.
GRETA VAN FLEET singer Josh Kiszka recently spoke to U.K.'s Kerrang! magazine about the progress of the songwriting and recording sessions for the band's follow-up to last year's "Anthem Of The Peaceful Army" debut album.
"It's intended to be a full release, a full album," he said. "For about two months in the heart of the summer of this year, we really poured everything into the writing and recording, and we're hoping that sometime earlier next year we'll be able to put it out. We're super excited about it."
When asked if he and his bandmates feel as though they have something to prove with this release, Josh replied: "Honestly, the way that we approach our music is that we're writing it for anybody who has any reason to listen to it. [Laughs] We're creating something simply for the sake of making a work of art that we're proud of, that we ourselves like to listen to. I don't think we set out to prove anything, particularly, but to point out some things about the world and our society. There are some of those elements to this album. And it's the next step I think, in the evolution and the sound of this band."
A new song from GRETA VAN FLEET, "Always There", was released in September. The track was originally recorded for inclusion on "Anthem Of The Peaceful Army", but it was ultimately decided it didn't fit the tone of the album. It appeared serendipitous when the makers of "A Million Little Pieces" requested it in the film's soundtrack.
"Anthem Of The Peaceful Army" landed at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart in July 2018 despite earning a lukewarm 53/100 score on review curation site Metacritic.
In December 2018, GRETA VAN FLEET scored four Grammy Award nominations, one for each major rock category — "Best Rock Album", "Best Rock Song", "Best Rock Performance" — and a "Best New Artist" nod. They went on to win for "Best Rock Album" for their sophomore EP, "From The Fires".
GRETA VAN FLEET was founded in 2012 by brothers Josh Kiszka, Sam Kiszka and Jake Kiszka, plus the sole non-brother member Kyle Hauck, who has since left and been replaced on the drums by Danny Wagner. | +3

Watch YNGWIE MALMSTEEN Perform In Fort Lauderdale
Fan-filmed video footage of Yngwie Malmsteen's December 27 concert at Culture Room in Fort Lauderdale, Florida can be seen below.
His setlist was as follows:
01. Baroque & Roll
02. Heavy E Phrygian
03. Never Die
04. No Rest For The Wicked
05. Overture
06. Arpeggios From Hell
07. Badinerie (Johann Sebastian Bach)
08. Spellbound
09. Trilogy
10. Top Down, Foot Down
11. Blue
12. Devil In Disguise
13. Seventh Sign
14. Vengeance
15. Demon Driver
16. Black Star
17. Far Beyond The Sun
Encore:
18. Rising Force
19. Faultline
20. Final Curtain
This past summer, Yngwie denied his reputation as a temperamental egomaniac, saying that he is a "creator" who likes to control every aspect of his art.
"There are quite a few misconceptions about me," the Swedish guitarist told Music Radar in an interview. "I think some people misunderstand what I'm doing; they believe I'm an egomaniac. The truth is, I'm a very focused person. My way of creating things is unlike rock 'n' roll musicians. I don't have a band; I'm not in a band.
"I look at it more like a painter who locks the door of the room and just paints," he added. "I do the foreground, I do the background. I frame it. Then I take it outside and say, 'Here's my painting.' I don't let anyone else put their paintbrush near it. People might think that's an egomaniac thing — no, it's an artist thing; I'm a creator."
Back in 2003, fellow guitar legend Steve Vai defended Yngwie, telling Georgia Straight that Malmsteen's reputation was misguided.
"I've known Yngwie since he came to America," Steve said, "and I think that people are intimidated by his confidence. He's so confident in what he does that maybe he comes off as cocky sometimes. I think to know Yngwie is to really, really like him, but to not know him is to think maybe he's pretty self-centered."
Yngwie recently gave an interview to Greece's Rock Hard magazine in which the legendary axeman explained why he hasn't worked with an outside singer on any of his albums following the release of 2010's "Relentless". Yngwie said that he prefers to handle the lead vocals on his albums himself nowadays because his previous "singers would always cause trouble; they would always be acting like they were special and they had something different to say or whatever… The singers always think that they're better than the keyboard player or they're better than the drummer."
Two years ago, Jeff Scott Soto, who sang on Yngwie's first two albums, 1984's "Rising Force" and 1985's "Marching Out", engaged in a war of words with the Swedish guitarist over the fact that Malmsteen claimed in an interview that he "always wrote everything," including the lyrics and melodies, and simply hired various vocalists to sing his material.
In the days after Yngwie's original interview with Metal Wani was published on BLABBERMOUTH.NET, several of the guitarist's former singers — including Soto, Tim "Ripper" Owens and Joe Lynn Turner — responded on social media, with Turner describing Malmsteen's statements as "the rantings of a megalomaniac desperately trying to justify his own insecurity." | +3

GUNS N' ROSES Keyboardist DIZZY REED Talks Debut Solo Album - "We Actually Started That Record 12 Years Before It Came Out"
The Paltrocast podcast host Darren Paltrowitz recently caught up with Guns N' Roses keyboardist Dizzy Reed. He talks about his long time membership in G'N'R and his other projects including Hookers N' Blow, and his solo career.
Dizzy Reed: "We actually started that (solo) record 12 years before it came out for a variety of reasons. Lots of little issues and logistic elements like finding someone to mix it and finding a label for it. I kinda gave up on it a few times, but my wife and some of my friends who played on it talked me into pursuing it. When we finally did get a home with Golden Robot Records.... I had no expectations for it. I was just happy it was out. Everything's been pretty good since then."
Reed released an official video for the song "Forgotten Cases" from his debut solo album, Rock 'N Roll Ain't Easy, earlier this year. Check it out below.
Tracklist:
"This Don’t Look Like Vegas"
"Mother Theresa"
"Cheers 2 R Oblivion"
"Fragile Water"
"Dirty Bomb"
"Mystery In Exile"
"I Celebrate"
"Understanding"
"Crestfallen"

METALLICA: Pro-Shot Video Of 'Lords Of Summer' Performance From Brussels
Professionally filmed video footage of METALLICA performing the song "Lords Of Summer" on June 16 at Koning Boudewijnstadium in Brussels, Belgium can be seen below.
Earlier this month, Billboard reported that METALLICA was the highest-ranked hard rock act on the magazine's year-end Boxscore chart, with a combined gross of $177 million from 46 reported concerts during the band's ongoing "WorldWired" tour. The band sold 1.7 million tickets around the world during the 12-month time frame that determined the chart's rankings.
METALLICA will headline five major North American festivals next year, all of which are produced by Danny Wimmer Presents. The events are Epicenter, Welcome To Rockville, Sonic Temple Music + Arts, Louder Than Life and Aftershock. The band will play two separate headlining sets at each stop, with a unique setlist for each performance, resulting in 10 different shows.
These shows will be METALLICA's only U.S. festival appearances of 2020. The quartet will play on Friday night and Sunday night at each event.
To mark the 20th anniversary of METALLICA's first performance with the San Francisco Symphony, which resulted in the live "S&M" album and video, the band re-teamed with the symphony in early September for two shows for the grand opening of Chase Center, the new home of the Golden State Warriors.
A film of the concerts, called "S&M²", arrived in theaters worldwide in October.

Video: STEVEN ADLER Performs GUNS N' ROSES Classics At Whisky A Go Go
Fan-filmed video footage of Steven Adler's December 28 performance at Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood, California can be seen below. Joining the former GUNS N' ROSES drummer in his group are Ariel Kamin, the singer of Argentinian GN'R tribute band SON OF A GUN, plus guitarists Michael Thomas and Alistair James, and bassist Tanya O Callaghan.
Kamin replaced Constantine Maroulis of "American Idol" and "Rock Of Ages" fame, who was the vocalist for ADLER'S APPETITE for a dozen or so dates in May 2018, including an Australian tour.
Steven previously played with Ariel when the drummer joined SON OF GUN on stage in November 2016 in Buenos Aires, Argentina to perform several GN'R classics, including "You Could Be Mine" and "Welcome To The Jungle".
Although he wasn't included in the lineup that launched the "Not In This Lifetime" trek in 2016, Adler rejoined GUNS N' ROSES at several shows on the tour, including three stops on the U.S. leg and one gig in Buenos Aires, Argentina, playing drums on "Out Ta Get Me" and "My Michelle".
In February 2017, Adler revealed to podcaster Mitch Lafon that he was originally supposed to appear at more than just a handful of shows on the GUNS N' ROSES reunion trek. He claimed that he expected to play all the "Appetite For Destruction" material during the entire tour, only to be told he was out after he hurt his back during rehearsals.
Speculation was rampant that Adler would participate in at least a portion of the reunion tour ever since GUNS made it official in January 2016. The regular GUNS drummer for several years has been Frank Ferrer, who is also part of the current lineup.

INNO Feat. FLESHGOD APOCALYPSE, HOUR OF PENANCE, THE FORESHADOWING, NOVEMBRE Members Sign With Time To Kill Records
Italian dark metal outfit, Inno, have joined forces with Time To Kill Records for the release of their debut album in early 2020.
Emerging out of the Roman metal scene in 2017, Inno was founded by four veterans with the aim to create something that would differ from their past experiences within the metal world. After spending a few months exploring their dormant influences, Inno came to shape a dark, doomy, heavy and progressive sound akin to eclectic acts such as Katatonia and The Gathering.
Their first album was produced by the band and mixed by Marco Mastrobuono and Giuseppe Orlando in Rome.
The effort will see the light of day in the first months of 2020. Watch out for more news and audio previews in the weeks ahead.
Lineup:
Elisabetta Marchetti (ex-Stormlord, ex-Riti Occulti) - Vocals, Piano, Acoustic Guitar
Cristiano Trionfera (ex-Fleshgod Apocalypse) - Rhythm and Lead Guitar
Marco Mastrobuono (Hour Of Penance, Coffin Birth) - Bass

Next NINE INCH NAILS Album May Feature Collaborations
NINE INCH NAILS leader Trent Reznor says that the band's next album may feature collaborations with other artists.
Reznor told Revolver: "We have a template for the next NINE INCH NAILS thing we want to do... I'll give it away: collaboration. We've got a list of people we like. And we thought, kind of playing on the newfound spirit of collaboration that scoring has forced us into, seeing what happens when we mix our DNA with some other people, with a no pressure environment."
Reznor added: "Let's see what happens. If something good happens, then maybe the world can hear it. But if it doesn't, we put it in the pile with the others."
Althought Trent did not offer a timetable for when the next NINE INCH NAILS album might be recorded, he revealed the band will probably hit the road and play some shows in 2020, most likely later in the year.
Reznor and musical partner Atticus Ross last shared new NINE INCH NAILS music in a series of records released over three years: "Not The Actual Events" in 2016, "Add Violence" in 2017 and "Bad Witch" in 2018, with the latter followed by a tour.
According to The Pulse Of Radio, the pair have spent much of the past few years composing scores for TV and film projects like "Bird Box", "Waves" and "Watchmen". Upcoming projects include the Pixar movie "Soul" and director David Fincher's "Mank". However, their score for the new Amy Adams movie "The Woman In The Window" was dropped after the producers began retooling the film. | +7

MARDUK Bassist MAGNUS "DEVO" ANDERSSON Calls It Quits
Marduk bassist Magnus "Devo" Andersson has announced that he has left the band to focus on other projects. His official statement, which is short and sweet, can be viewed below.
Andersson's bandmates have yet to comment on his departure. Stay tuned.
Blooddawn Productions (distributed & marketed by Regain Records) has set December 10 as the international release date for Death Wolf's fourth album, IV: Come The Dark, on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape formats. New track, "Serpents Hall", is streaming below.
Although it's been five long years since Death Wolf's last album, III: Östergötland, the band should require little introduction. Begun at the dawn of the new millennium by Marduk's Morgan Håkansson under the moniker Devil's Whorehouse as a means of tribute to the deathpunk sound of Samhain and the Misfits, following the band's The Howling debut EP did the band soon evolve beyond their half-covers repertoire into a deadly force all their own. In 2011, after two albums and two EPs under the Devil's Whorehouse moniker, a change in name was long overdue, and the far-more-fitting Death Wolf was chosen. Wasting no time, three albums followed in almost as many years: Death Wolf (2011), II: Black Armored Death (2013), and III: Östergötland (2014).
But, as is sometimes the case, the deadliest beasts need their slumber, and at long last does Death Wolf awaken with IV: Come The Dark. Right from the very first throttling notes, IV: Come The Dark explodes with a ferocity and finesse that suggest those years of slumber were indeed fruitful. Clear and cutting, Death Wolf are on fine form here, effortlessly crafting one dark anthem after another with their signature blend of urban-wasteland heaviness and moody-yet-incendiary hooks. At once metal, punk, rock, and goth simultaneously and yet none of 'em in any conventional sense of those words, IV: Come The Dark bewitches the imagination with a deceptively earworming sense of style; in a strange, upside-down world (or a world where simply everything is RIGHT) can one imagine most/all of these songs on the radio.
But alas, we live in a doomed world, and never will Death Wolf reign across the radio... but their reasserted dominance is nearly certain with the arrival of IV: Come The Dark, as never before have the band sounded so commanding and confident, each of these 11 anthems brimming with a granite-thick gleam that underlines the power in professionalism.
Hear the first pulse of that power with the previously revealed "With Hate" below. Pre-order the album here or here.

KISS - Watch “Dr. Love” From Nagoya, Japan
KISS have posted pro-shot video footage of “Dr. Love” trom their December 19th show in Nagoya, Japan at Dolphins Arena below:
Japanese rock star Yoshiki will team up with American rock legends KISS for a once-in-a-lifetime television performance on Japan’s NHK network. The artists will appear together as Yoshiki Featuring KISS (YOSHIKISS) during the New Year’s Eve Red and White Music Battle (Kouhaku Uta Gassen), the most-watched television program in Japan, which is also broadcast worldwide.
Yoshiki’s televised performance with KISS follows his surprise on-stage appearances with the band at Tokyo Dome and Kyocera Dome Osaka during their End Of The Road World Tour, electrifying the audience with a piano performance on “Beth" and playing the drums on “Rock And Roll All Nite”.
Yoshiki worked previously with KISS to create a 72-piece orchestral cover of “Black Diamond” for the 1994 tribute album Kiss My Ass: Classic Kiss Regrooved. In 2016, Gene Simmons joined Yoshiki on stage to perform “Rock And Roll All Nite” at the Visual Japan Summit in Tokyo.
The upcoming performance will mark the first time Yoshiki and KISS have appeared on television together. “I want us to create a performance that will have a big impact,” Yoshiki said. “I think we’re really going to shock people.”
"It’s an honor to perform on NHK in my favorite country in the world,” says Gene Simmons of KISS. “Yoshiki is a Japanese legend, but he never forgets to have a humble heart. I’ve been influenced by his humble approach to his work."
Paul Stanley of KISS also praised Yoshiki adding, "Not only is Yoshiki a wonderful pianist and drummer, but he continues to express the importance of living and has had a great impact on us."
For Yoshiki, KISS was a life-saving force in his childhood as he dealt with the despair caused by the sudden death of his father. “KISS saved my life,” explained Yoshiki, who studied classical piano throughout his youth and began drumming as a way of releasing his emotional pain.
“Instead of banging things, I started banging drums,” Yoshiki said in the X Japan documentary film We Are X. Gene Simmons appears in the film to praise the band which was in fact inspired by KISS. “If those guys were born in America,” Simmons said, “they might be the biggest band in the world.”
Yoshiki's Kohaku Uta Gassen appearance will mark his fifth consecutive performance since 2015 as both a solo artist and as leader of the rock group X Japan. He defeated Godzilla in 2016, played the drums for the first time following his cervical vertebra surgery in 2017, and made history in 2018 as the first artist to perform on the program for both the red and white teams, appearing as Yoshiki Feat. Hyde for the Attack On Titan theme "Red Swan" and playing the piano with Sarah Brightman on vocals for the chart-topping crossover single "Miracle".

METALLICA Pays Tribute To LEMMY On Fourth Anniversary Of His Death
On Saturday, December 28 — the fourth anniversary of the passing of MÖTÖRHEAD bassist and vocalist Lemmy — METALLICA shared footage of Lemmy performing the MÖTÖRHEAD classic "Too Late Too Late" with METALLICA at a September 2009 concert in Nashville, Tennessee. METALLICA wrote in an accompanying caption: "We miss you, Lemmy..."
METALLICA's song "Murder One", which appears on the band's latest album, "Hardwired... To Self-Destruct", is a tribute to Lemmy and uses many of his songtitles in the lyrics. METALLICA frontman James Hetfield stated about the track: "'Murder One' was the name of [Lemmy's] amplifier, his favorite amp on stage. And I loved being murdered every night by that thing, man. He was just such an icon, such an inspiration to us as a band. There's certainly no way we'd be around if there was no MOTÖRHEAD. And, you know, to see your idol, your immortal one, actually be mortal, it hit us pretty hard. So I felt, lyrically, it makes sense to acknowledge him and how much he's meant in our lives."
During a Town Hall event at SiriusXM's New York studios, Hetfield stated about the inspiration for "Murder One": "MOTÖRHEAD had a lot to do with METALLICA sitting here right now. But just Lemmy as an entity, as kind of a father figure, he helped us a lot. He was unafraid. And he was a character. And he was himself. And we all respected that so much. He did his own thing to the last breath. No matter who you are, how could you not be inspired by that?"
"In the summer of 1981, I followed MOTÖRHEAD around on tour," METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich added. "That was what made me want to be in a band. When I came back to Southern California and called up James and said, 'Listen, we've got to give this a shot,' ... MOTÖRHEAD is the catalyst."
Shortly after Lemmy's passing, Ulrich penned a lengthy tribute to the MOTÖRHEAD mainman in which looked back on the influence Lemmy had not just on METALLICA but also on him personally.
"I was down at [Lemmy's] 70th party [on December 13, 2015 at the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood], and I got a chance to sit with him for about ten minutes, just him and me. I told him that his obligation to the rock and roll community was to live forever because his birthday party was like a hard-rock class reunion," he wrote in part. "Everybody was there because Lemmy's one of the few people we can all agree on who is just the coolest guy ever. We would all show up. I told him it was his obligation to live forever, because he was the reason we could all get together and celebrate hard rock and celebrate MOTÖRHEAD and see familiar faces because we're all so scattered now. Obviously I could tell that he was in deteriorating health but we had a close bond, one that didn't necessarily need to be reaffirmed or articulated. The less we said the more we knew the connection was there."
Lars added: "Whenever METALLICA played L.A., [Lemmy] would always come and watch us, and whenever MOTÖRHEAD was up here, we'd always go and see them play. We probably crossed paths 50 to 100 times in the last 20 years, and he came and played with us onstage multiple times. It was a bond that deep and it goes back to the crazy summer of 1981.
"I will always appreciate and forever cherish all the great times we had together, but especially those early days. We were so vulnerable, so moldable because a significant part of who we've become, both in the band and as people, is directly due to not just him but all the rest of the people who were inspired and drank from the same bottles and shared the same stories and same space. His spirit will always live in us."
MOTÖRHEAD won the "Best Metal Performance" Grammy in 2005 for its cover version of the METALLICA song "Whiplash".
At a 1995 gig at the Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood, members of METALLICA celebrated Lemmy's 50th birthday by taking the stage as a wigged tribute band dubbed the LEMMYS.
In a 2011 interview with Metal Insider, Lemmy said: "You can't top METALLICA. They're really a fucking excellent band. I'm delighted that they said that I was one of their influences. Like, they have all of their influences, and you can't hear the influences in them, which is great. They've become their own people, and that's great. I like them a lot. I've spent a lot of time with those boys."
We miss you, Lemmy... ♠️ pic.twitter.com/qybXUYwCxp

Watch SLIPKNOT's JAY WEINBERG Lay Down Drum Tracks For 'Orphan' During 'We Are Not Your Kind' Recording Sessions
Video footage of SLIPKNOT's Jay Weinberg laying down the drums tracks for the song "Orphan" during the recording sessions for the band's latest album, "We Are Not Your Kind", can be seen below.
SLIPKNOT guitarist Jim Root told Kerrang! about "Orphan": "This is a demo that came from my garage. It's a metal banger. When we first started talking about this record, there was a point where I was pretty insecure about all these arrangements, and I didn't think we had much to work with. You get those blocks, but that's the beauty of collaborating with people. I watched the Freddie Mercury movie [2018's 'Bohemian Rhapsody'], and there's the section where he's separated from the band, and then he went back and was, like, 'The problem with the band is they did everything I wanted.' I can relate to that. I need people to bounce ideas off of; that helps me take things to other places."
Weinberg was recently named winner of this year's Music Radar poll for "Best Metal Drummer". Jay earned almost twice as many votes as the rest of the entrants combined, a list which included such names as Paul Bostaph (SLAYER), Ray Luzier (KORN), Jocke Wallgren (AMON AMARTH), Art Cruz (LAMB OF GOD) and Chris Kontos (MACHINE HEAD).
Weinberg discovered SLIPKNOT when he was a pre-teen, through his father Max, of Bruce Springsteen's E STREET BAND, and leader of the house band on Conan O'Brien's talk show. He was hooked immediately and was a huge fan of SLIPKNOT by the time he was invited to Los Angeles to try out as replacement for Joey Jordison in 2013.
For the first few months after the release of 2014's ".5: The Gray Chapter", the members of SLIPKNOT had declined to name the musicians who were playing drums and bass on their tour, despite the fact that their identities were revealed as Weinberg and bassist Alessandro "Vman" Venturella by a disgruntled former drumtech for SLIPKNOT who posted a picture of a backstage call sheet on Instagram.
SLIPKNOT announced its split with Jordison in December 2013 but did not disclose the reasons for his exit. The drummer subsequently issued a statement saying that he did not quit the group.

Former NIGHTWISH Singer ANETTE OLZON On Touring For Long Periods Of Time: 'It Was Fun, But It Was Also Very, Very Hard'
Former NIGHTWISH and current THE DARK ELEMENT singer Anette Olzon has told PowerThorn in a new interview that she is not a big fan of staying on the road for long periods of time. "For me, I've done that big, heavy touring thing that [THE DARK ELEMENT guitarist Jani Liimatainen is] doing at the moment [with INSOMNIUM]," she said. "I did it with NIGHTWISH. It was fun, but it was also very, very hard. I have problems sleeping in the bus, for instance, so either I have to drink beer or take pills to sleep [laughs], which is hard. I also think it's a bit boring when it comes to traveling. Nowadays, I don't really like to go anywhere and I just stay at home because I've seen the world, I've been in cities. I remember that I woke up many times and I didn't have any clue what country I was in, what city I was in, and it was kind of scary, you know, when you just wake up, like, 'Where am I?' It happened a lot. I also have a lot of memory losses from my touring days, because it was very intense. So I try to think that I've done that, you know, that Jani's doing at the moment, and I cherish it, but I prefer to do a little bit less gigs. More like, 'Let's do two gigs and have fun,' and then we go home. I prefer that."
She added: "I think also that when you do a tour like that six days a week, traveling, traveling, traveling, people getting sick and still having to perform, you know, singing with a flu in your body and stuff, you don't give your best every evening. If you only have a few gigs, normally you're not ill and you're good and you're happy, and I think that shows to the audience, too. You can give them much more for their money, I believe."
THE DARK ELEMENT's second album, "Songs The Night Sings", was released on November 8 via Frontiers Music Srl. The follow-up to 2017's "The Dark Element" was mixed by Jacob Hansen, who has previously worked with VOLBEAT and AMARANTHE, among others.
Joining Olzon and Liimatainen in THE DARK ELEMENT's current recording lineup are Jonas Kuhlberg on bass and Rolf Pilve on drums.
Olzon originally joined NIGHTWISH in 2007 and recorded two studio albums with the band before being dismissed in 2012 in the middle of the group's North American tour. She was replaced by former AFTER FOREVER singer Floor Jansen. Olzon later claimed that an argument arose between her and NIGHTWISH when she asked for an Australian tour to be postponed during her pregnancy. Mainman Tuomas Holopainen suggested that Jansen should front the band on a temporary basis, but Olzon said no.

SLASH: METALLICA's 'Garage Days' Is 'One Of The Best Cover Records Of All Time'
During a December 13 appearance on SEX PISTOLS guitarist Steve Jones's radio show, "Jonesy's Jukebox", on the 95.5 KLOS station in Los Angeles, GUNS N' ROSES guitarist Slash spoke about the band's 1993 covers album, "The Spaghetti Incident?" The effort was recorded when the Axl Rose-fronted group was in a state of turmoil and turned out to be the only album by GUNS N' ROSES that the band didn't tour to support.
Explaining GUNS N' ROSES' choice of source material, Slash said: "Duff [McKagan, bass] picked a couple [of tracks]. [THE SKYLINERS' 1958 doo-wop classic] 'Since I Don't Have You', I remember [Axl] had brought it up, and I'd always loved that song, so I was, like, 'Yeah, that'd be a great song to do.' I think 'Hair Of The Dog' [NAZARETH] was one of the ones that he and I both wanted to do. But, yeah, everybody sort of threw ideas in the hat… It was a hell of a lot of fun. It was very spontaneous and it was recorded in different studios around — well, some stuff was in the States; I think we recorded some stuff in, I wanna say Canada — don't quote me on that. But I know that there were different studios, different locations while we were on the road. So we would just pop in. And ['Since I Don't Have You'], I remember we just rented out some studio in the middle of the country somewhere — just found it, booked it, went in there and whipped it out. So it was a lot of fun to make."
Slash went on to say that he is a fan of covers albums in general. "Just being able to do an interpretation of a song that you really like [is really cool]," he explained. "Some cover records are better than others. But the ones where the artist really relates to the original material and it becomes part of their personality when they re-record it, I think that's really cool. I thought 'Garage Days' [referring to 1987's 'The $5.98 E.P.: Garage Days Re-Revisited'] from METALLICA was one of the best cover records of all time. It was great."
"The Spaghetti Incident?" controversially included a cover of Charles Manson's musical critique of a girl's shortcomings, "Look At Your Game, Girl", which appeared as an unlisted bonus track. After a public outcry over the fact that Manson could profit off the royalties from the song, the matter was settled so that royalties from the cover would go to relatives of Manson's victims.
"The $5.98 EP - Garage Days Re-Revisited" included METALLICA versions of DIAMOND HEAD's "Helpless", KILLING JOKE's "The Wait", HOLOCAUST's "The Small Hours" and medley of the MISFITS' "Last Caress" and "Green Hell".

LOU GRAMM On His 'Retirement': 'I've Lost The Desire To Be Out On The Road Performing Constantly'
In a recent interview with Daily Boom, original FOREIGNER singer Lou Gramm spoke about his decision to retire from performing as a solo artist. He said: "At the end of last year, I disassembled my own band and that was that. Different variations of that band had been together for 13 or 14 years, and we had great shows. Whether there was a FOREIGNER reunion or not, I knew that it was time for me to put an end to that. This year, I've played on and off with ASIA. They do their songs and then they do arrangements of my solo work, plus FOREIGNER songs. They're very good and we have a lot of fun on stage, but even that is coming to an end later this year."
He continued: "I'm in the process of winding down and I'm at peace with it. I've been doing this at a professional level, usually extremely busy and working hard, for 45 years. I can still sing; I don't know if I'm as good as I was 40 years ago, but I can still cut the parts. I've just lost the desire to be out on the road performing constantly. I've done enough. I've got a lot of other things that I'd like to turn my attention towards like my family and my obsessive hobby [laughs] — American muscle cars! I have a lot of fun with that, and I've been into it since before I was old enough to drive. When you tour, it's usually in the summer, so by the time the tour is over, it's almost too late to get the car out and drive it. I live in the Northeast, so come October, that's when everyone is putting everything away."
Shortly after Gramm announced that he was retiring from performing as a solo artist last December, he clarified that he wasn't completely walking away from performing live.
By the time Gramm left FOREIGNER for the first time in 1990, he had already released two successful solo albums: 1987's "Ready Or Not" and 1989's "Long Hard Look". He went on to launch LOU GRAMM BAND, which released an all-Christian rock album in 2009. He followed it up with "My Baby" in 2015.
The 69-year-old Gramm left FOREIGNER for good in 2002 and has battled health issues in recent years, including the removal of a non-cancerous tumor. He told the Democrat & Chronicle last year that he was planning to retire, but still reunited with FOREIGNER for several shows in 2018 to celebrate the band's 40th anniversary.
Gramm was the voice on FOREIGNER's biggest hits, including "Feels Like The First Time" and "Cold as Ice" from the band's eponymous debut in 1977, and later songs like "Hot Blooded" and "I Want to Know What Love Is".
FOREIGNER replaced Gramm with Kelly Hansen in 2005. Guitarist Mick Jones, the only remaining original member, suffered from some health issues beginning in 2011, eventually resulting in heart surgery in 2012.

ALL THAT REMAINS Singer On Guitarist JASON RICHARDSON: 'We Didn't Wanna Get Someone That Was Gonna Try To Be OLI HERBERT'
ALL THAT REMAINS singer Phil Labonte says that he is "excited to write" with Jason Richardson.
A former member of BORN OF OSIRIS and CHELSEA GRIN, Richardson joined ALL THAT REMAINS as the replacement for longtime guitarist Oliver "Oli" Herbert, who passed away in October 2018.
In a recent interview with Interview Under Fire, Labonte stated about ALL THAT REMAINS's latest addition: "The thing about Jason is — and I've said this a few times in the press — Oli was a big fan of Jason's. We'd done some touring when Jason was in BORN OF OSIRIS, and we'd done some shows when he was in CHELSEA GRIN, and Oli used to go and watch them. He was just, like, 'Man, that kid is the best.' Blah blah blah. He just couldn't say enough good things about him. And so, I'm sure that, if there is an afterlife and Oli can see that Jason is the guy that's standing in his spot, Oli would be, like, 'Yeah, that's the guy.' So, that matters. That's important to us. And it's a big deal.
"We didn't wanna get someone that was gonna try to be Oli," Phil explained. "Oli was Oli — the way he wrote his riffs, his personality. We didn't want someone that had his look either. We wouldn't have turned someone down that had long hair and a beard, but we weren't, like, 'You've gotta have a beard and long hair.' We weren't looking to do that. The last thing we wanted was people to feel like we were trying to get a guy to be Oli. Oli was Oli, and no one will ever be Oli again. And we don't want to insult his memory by doing anything like that. And so the fact that Jason is his own player, has his own career, had his own career before us, has his own career outside of ALL THAT REMAINS — he's still doing his solo stuff; he'll probably release a solo record next year — but he is able to step in and do what Oli did, that's something that was a big deal to us. 'Cause, like I said, we didn't people to think that we were trying to get someone that was, like, 'budget Oli' or a guy that looked like Oli to kind of fill the shoes. We wanted someone that was different and their own person, 'cause we didn't want… Oli was Oli, and there's never gonna be another Oli."
Labonte said that he is looking forward to working on new music with Richardson. The 28-year-old guitarist will make his recording debut on ALL THAT REMAINS's follow-up to 2018's "Victim Of The New Disease", which is tentatively due in early 2021.
"We're excited to write with him," Phil said. "We'll probably start writing some stuff next year. 'Cause Oli did write so much of our music — at least half the songs that we had, Oli wrote the music for. So it'll be exciting to see what Jason brings."
Oli was found dead on October 16, 2018 at the edge of the pond on his Stafford Springs, Connecticut property. He was reported missing by his wife and his body was found by police face down at the edge of the pond where the water was only a few inches deep.
The Connecticut State Police Eastern District Crime Squad is investigating Herbert's death, which is being treated as suspicious. They are looking at the will he signed a week before his death as well as a life insurance policy mentioned in the will.
"Victim Of The New Disease" was released in November 2018 via Fearless in North America and Eleven Seven in Europe. | +5

TESTAMENT's Upcoming Album Will Have 'A Little Of Everything,' Says CHUCK BILLY
TESTAMENT frontman Chuck Billy has confirmed to Lana Morgan of Milwaukee's 102.9 The Hog radio station that the band has completed work on the follow-up to 2016's "Brotherhood Of The Snake" album. Asked if there are any musical "surprises" on the new LP, Billy said (hear audio below): "I don't know about surprises, but I think we definitely keep TESTAMENT fans on their toes as far as it's always something new, always a different twist, always a different feel, but still being TESTAMENT. So I think again Eric [Peterson, guitar] really captured some new riffs. The mix is pretty straightforward TESTAMENT, like it's been, but I think the songwriting is definitely a little bit… It has a little of everything; it's got a bunch of different moods on the record. Again, I think fans will be, like, 'Yeah, right on.' It's definitely a different TESTAMENT record."
Even though Billy told Inquisitr in a 2018 interview that the next TESTAMENT record would contain "a full-on ballad," Chuck now says that the upcoming disc will contain nothing of the sort. "We have some moody stuff, but I wouldn't say we would gear up to try to write a ballad," he said. "I just think — I don't know if that's really who TESTAMENT is.
"When we had Atlantic Records backing us, they were always the ones that wanted the singles and the videos, and everything always seemed to lean towards the ballads," he explained. "So, that's kind of where that went back in those days. But we're long past that now."
Earlier this year, Billy told the WSOU radio station that the new TESTAMENT album would "definitely" contain "some different elements. I think Eric definitely stepped back into little of his — I don't know — maybe, MERCYFUL FATE shoes," he said. "There's a lot of MERCYFUL FATE kind of stuff. Eric does some black metal stuff. There's some blast beats, which he's kind of mixed in there, which that's not the norm for us. So it's a little different again. I think all the songs definitely have their own identity and stand on their own."
Chuck said that he is using his "melodic tone of a voice and less of a death metal voice" on the new TESTAMENT LP. "It's just kind of where the songs took it," he said. "There's a song on here that was kind of one of the last ones that came around — it's one of the slower-tempo songs. And I kind of was shying away from it 'cause the pace of the rest of the record was pretty quick, so I wasn't sure it was the right fit. But in the end, once we wrote it and finished it, it turned out to be a great song. But I'm doing some stuff on there — I've never sang a three-part harmony on a TESTAMENT song ever. And on this one, there's a situation where I tried it and did it, and it sounds really cool for the song. So it was just something different — challenging again that was different notes to use and different challenges, and I kind of dug it. And it actually was cool, and it actually made the experience on those songs, of creation, just kind of fun."
Billy went on to discuss two of the tracks that will appear on TESTAMENT's new disc, saying: "On this record, there's a song called 'Children Of The Next Level', and that's one that really came together, musically, and came together lyrically. There's another one on the record that, actually, the first time I heard the song, I kind of mimicked the vocal pattern and actually we wrote it the next day. So that was a song that was, like, 'Wow!' I got inspired and laid down the first gut feeling of what it felt like. And it ended up being a keeper, and we ended up molding it right into a killer song. And lyrically, the timing, the melody, the lyrics — everything just really kind of fell into place."
TESTAMENT's new album was once again recorded with Juan Urteaga and mixed by veteran British producer — and current JUDAS PRIEST touring guitarist — Andy Sneap.
TESTAMENT will team up with EXODUS and DEATH ANGEL for "The Bay Strikes Back 2020" European tour. The trek will kick off on February 6 in Copenhagen, Denmark and will hit 25 cities before concluding on March 11 in Hannover, Germany. | +20

METALLICA: Pro-Shot Video Of 'Confusion' Performance From Mannheim
Professionally filmed video footage of METALLICA performing the song "Confusion" on August 25 at Palastzelt Maimarktgelände in Mannheim, Germany can be seen below.

LACUNA COIL 'Struggled To Start The Songwriting Process' For 'Black Anima' Album
In a recent interview with Genre Is Dead! magazine, LACUNA COIL singer Cristina Scabbia said that it wasn't the band's intention to make a concept album when it started working on this year's "Black Anima" LP. "In the beginning, we had a lot of ideas but they weren't focused on one big picture, so that was a problem," she explained. "When you have too many things to say then the risk becomes saying something that is confusing. At first, we struggled to start the songwriting process. Marco [Coti Zelati], our bass player, who produced the record and is also the main songwriter for the music, couldn't really put down the music. He was worried because he wasn't inspired, and this is a thing you can only do when you're inspired. We had a meeting where we brought a lot of pictures and anything that could visually inspire. Marco gets inspiration from movies and video games because he wants to write a soundtrack for the images he sees. The inspiration started to flow very easily when we were finally focused on what we wanted to say. Then Andrea [Ferro, LACUNA COIL co-vocalist] and I wrote the vocal lines and lyrics. Marco would then put music on it and send it back to us. But all the songs are not tied to each other; it's not a concept record. It's definitely a story and we'd suggest listening to the record from the beginning to the end. Take an hour out of your day to enjoy it as it is. It is very dynamic and every song makes sense within the record. It brings you through a lot of different moods."
Ferro spoke about the "Black Anima" lyrics in more detail during an interview with Dead Rhetoric. He said: "In general, when we started [coming up with lyrical ideas], Cristina and I, we were brainstorming and trying to find out what would be the strongest thing to talk about. We usually start with personal experiences, at least as a starting point for the songs. We talk about what happens to us in the lyrics. So we were searching for the strongest impact of the last three years [since 'Delirium']. The strongest thing that happened was the fact that we had been losing some dear people and the way that we have been reacting has been very surprising. It's nothing that we have ever imagined before. This passage of life, which is natural for everyone to face sooner or later, it was one of the strongest impacts we had. Especially how much we still feel these people around us and inside us in everything that we do. So that led us to talk about a topic of using this connection between our world and [another] world. I was also reading a book called 'The Physics Of Angels', which is written by a priest and a scientist. They both analyze the physics of angels, ghosts, and spirits throughout history. That together lead us to this concept of black souls, which you can see on the cover. It tells all of the stories of the spirits. We also have Tarot cards decks, which we use to communicate with the spirits. We also imagined the stage clothes would be something like 'soul hunters' or something like that. All of a sudden, we opened up something much bigger to work with Marco on the music. So it's been a work that came altogether with the lyrics, then moved on to the music, as well as everything like the live clothes and scenery, and the merch. Everything was connected. It's not a proper concept album in that it is one unique story, but the approach and theme is common."
Released in October, the deluxe edition of "Black Anima" comes with a limited-edition custom deck, created with the help of artist Micah Ulrich.
During its recent North American tour, LACUNA COIL promoted "Black Anima" by performing the first two singles from the LP, "Layers Of Time" and "Reckless". The tracks were accompanied by music videos directed by Roberto Cinardi (a.k.a. SaKu), a longtime collaborator of the band, who also previously worked on LACUNA COIL's 2012 short film "Dark Passengers".
This past October, LACUNA COIL released an Amazon Original song titled "Bad Things".
Formed in 1994, LACUNA COIL celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2019.

SCORPIONS Flashback – “Lovedrive” Live From Reading Festival 1979 Streaming
German legends Scorpions keep releasing classic live material, this time it’s “Lovedrive” from the Reading Festival on August 25, 1979. Hop in the time machine and relive this classic with lineup of Klaus Meine (vocals), Rudolf Schenker (guitars), Matthias Jabs (guitars), Francis Buchholz (bass), and Herman Rarebell (drums).
Scorpions guitarist Matthias Jabs was recently a guest on New Zealand’s The Metal Bar, and confirmed that the band is working on a new album, and are planning a July 2020 residency in Las Vegas.
Jabs says, "We've been writing some material before we went on tour, before we went on tour this summer. It's always difficult to come up with stuff on tour. You get the inspiration, but to actually put it down, that's a different story, when you travel every day. So we have songs, about ten, I guess, but we will have to do some more writing once this tour is over, and then prepare for the rehearsals and recordings right after our shows in New Zealand and a couple in Asia. So we will be back in early March. And we know that we work with the producer Greg Fidelman, who is known for doing Metallica and Slipknot and others, and he's a great guy. And he came to visit in our studio in Hannover, Germany already. So the plan is to record until the first of July, where we have a residency in Las Vegas for a whole month. And then, during that time, we can either do the final touch-ups or mix. And then the album should come out in the fall of 2020. And then, of course, we go on the road again."
Get ready for the biggest hard rock tour of 2020. Scorpions and Whitesnake are coming for their first ever double headline tour of Australia and New Zealand. Feel the bite of Whitesnake and the sting of the Scorpions.
"We’re gonna rock you like a hurricane,“ promises Scorpions vocalist, Klaus Meine.
