BLACK STAR RIDERS And THIN LIZZY Frontman RICKY WARWICK Diagnosed With Pleurisy

Ricky Warwick has been diagnosed with pleurisy, a condition in which the linings of the lungs become inflamed.

The BLACK STAR RIDERS and THIN LIZZY frontman issued an update on his health five days after undergoing a "small procedure" at the Cedars-Sinai hospital in West Hollywood, California.

Earlier today, Warwick posted a photo of him laying on a hospital bed, along with the following caption: "Wee update from the hospital. I've been finally after numerous tests been diagnosed with Pleurisy of the right lung.. a form of pneumonia. I'm still in hospital and probably will be for another couple of days...

"I'm feeling a little better everyday but it's a slow process ... but compared to some poor souls I've nothing too much to complain about. Never been in hospital overnight in my life until I came down with this ... I suppose 53 not out is a good run so far !!

"I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the lovely kind messages of support you've all sent me, it's very humbling and has cheered me up no end. THANK YOU ALL... and hopefully normal service will be resumed soon."

In addition to fronting THIN LIZZY and BLACK STAR RIDERS, Warwick was the guitarist and vocalist for THE ALMIGHTY, and performs regularly as a solo acoustic act.

Born in Newtownards, County Down, Northern Ireland, Ricky now calls Los Angeles home — he's lived there for more than 15 years. Ricky has four kids — his youngest is 11 and his oldest is 22.

Last year, Warwick signed a worldwide deal with Nuclear Blast for his solo album releases. His new solo offering, "When Life Was Fast And Hard", is due in 2020.

BLACK STAR RIDERS' fourth studio album "Another State Of Grace", came out in September via Nuclear Blast. The follow-up to 2017's "Heavy Fire" was recorded in February 2019 at Sphere Studios in Burbank, California with producer Jay Ruston (STONE SOUR, ANTHRAX, URIAH HEEP).

SEBASTIAN BACH: 'Anybody Who Thinks Climate Change Isn't Real Is The One Who Is Brainwashed'

Sebastian Bach says that "anybody who thinks climate change isn't real is the one who is brainwashed."

The former SKID ROW frontman was responding to a recent interview with Meat Loaf in which the legendary singer accused teenage climate-change activist Greta Thunberg of being "brainwashed."

"I feel for that Greta," Meat Loaf told U.K.'s Daily Mail. "She has been brainwashed into thinking that there is climate change and there isn't.

"She hasn't done anything wrong but she's been forced into thinking that what she is saying is true."

On Friday (January 3), HALESTORM frontwoman Lzzy Hale tweeted a link to a story about Meat Loaf's Greta comments and wrote in an accompanying message: "This is why the new gen has to step the fuck up!!" A short time later, her tweet was shared by Bach, who chimed in: "Obviously anybody who thinks climate change isn't real is the one who is brainwashed"

Back in September, Hale praised Thunberg as "our modern-day Joan of Arc," saying that the Swedish teenager is "sitting at a round table of young women who have inspired and shaped humanity."

The 17-year-old gained international media attention in recent months for her outspoken activism on climate change, including delivering an impassioned speech to the United Nations Climate Action Summit calling out world leaders for not responding to the climate crisis with more urgency.

President Trump, who has repeatedly voiced skepticism about climate change, shared video of Thunberg's speech on Twitter, and above it wrote, sarcastically, that "she seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!"

97 percent or more of actively publishing climate scientists agree that climate-warming trends over the past century are extremely likely due to human activities.

Listen To New FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH Song 'Full Circle'

"Full Circle", a brand new song from FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, can be streamed below. The track is taken from the band's eighth album, "F8", due on February 28 via Better Noise Music.

Fans who pre-order the album digitally will receive an instant download of "Inside Out" and "Full Circle", along with one other new song, before the LP's release.

The album will be available in the following formats: CD, digital download, mastered for iTunes download, double gatefold vinyl and picture disc vinyl. The band also curated special "F8" merchandise bundles of albums with exclusive t-shirts, hoodies and more available for pre-order now as well.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH guitarist Zoltan Bathory said: "We had an extremely successful, yet tumultuous couple of years as a band. We didn't just weather the storm but came out on the other side better than ever. It was a focused sober group recording, our most important album to date and without a question it shows. This album represents rebirth, progression, transcendence both personally and musically." Vocalist Ivan Moody added: "This record to me is 'absolution' — everything I've done in my life has led up to this moment."

"F8" track listing:

01. F8

02. Inside Out

03. Full Circle

04. Living The Dream

05. A Little Bit Off

06. Bottom Of The Top

07. To Be Alone

08. Mother May I (Tic Toc)

09. Darkness Settles In

10. This Is War

11. Leave It All Behind

12. Scar Tissue

13. Brighter Side Of Grey

14. Making Monsters (bonus)

15. Death Punch Therapy (bonus)

16. Inside Out (radio edit) (bonus)

This past November, Moody spoke about "Inside Out" with Metal Hammer magazine, saying: "It's about alcoholism. It's about my family leaving. It's about my bandmates. It's about looking at myself in the fucking face and saying, 'Dude, you're going to have to do this because nobody else is coming.'"

He said about the record in general: "This album has not been fucking easy to make. There was always somebody fucking quitting. Somebody wants to fire another guy, somebody's unhappy with someone's lifestyle. These things happen on a daily basis."

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's new disc was once again helmed by Kevin Churko, the Canadian record producer/engineer and songwriter who currently lives in Las Vegas, where he works out of his private studio, The Hideout Recording Studio.

Bathory recently said that the band's new LP could be its best yet. He said: "We have a little pie that we belong to in the musical spectrum, and within that, the grooves — there are these big, nasty grooves that feel just heavier and grimier, and that's kind of what's happening. The energy of what's in the band now is affecting this process."

The drums on the disc were laid down by Charlie "The Engine" Engen, who made his live debut with the group during its fall 2018 tour with BREAKING BENJAMIN. He stepped in for original drummer Jeremy Spencer, who left the band in December 2018 due to a back injury.

FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH recently announced the dates for a new spring North American tour. The trek kicks off on April 8 in Sunrise, Florida, winding down on May 20 in St. Paul, Minnesota. PAPA ROACH, I PREVAIL and ICE NINE KILLS will join FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH on the upcoming road trip.

THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA Feat. SOILWORK, ARCH ENEMY Members: 'Divinyls' Video

Swedish classic/progressive rock supergroup THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA — featuring members of SOILWORK and ARCH ENEMY — will release its new album, "Aeromantic", on February 28 via Nuclear Blast. "More drama" is the name of the game — and the band delivers class in the form of the official music video for the first single, "Divinyls", directed by René U Valdes of Bravo Bravo Films.

THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA said: "So, you thought you knew what THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA was all about? You were sure that they were all about good times, boogie woogie, radio friendly AOR? Damn, you were wrong. The one thing that has kept those aging Swedish hearts beating for so long is DRAMA! Internal conflicts, external conflicts, rumours and exaggerations.

"On February 28th, we will release our new album, 'Aeromantic'. It is a street opera based upon shattered dreams, broken illusions, and the fact that we are all something much less than the person we were supposed to be. But in the darkness, there's a always a glimmer of hope. And from that glimmer of hope, with the right mindset, you can sculpt and create a whole lot of Swedish classic rock melodrama.

"We will be releasing the first single and video from the upcoming album, on January 3rd, entitled 'Divinyls'. 'Divinyls' is about doing the impossible and pushing your inner dreams to the forefront of your psyche and being in total control of your own future. The video shows two young figure skaters, battling pressure from their demanding coaches, but biting the bullet while they pursue their dreams. You could say the story has hints of the Tonya Harding and Nancy Kerrigan drama, with the exception that these two young aspiring ladies, become friends in the end.

"We would like to thank figure skaters Karina Ljunggren and Ida Thörn for their amazing performances on ice and also their coach Alisa Latysheva, starring as herself in the video. Also, a big thank you to figure skating club GF IDROTT in Landskrona, Sweden, for making this video a reality, as well as our amazing video director René Valdez.

"Once again, THE NIGHT FLIGHT ORCHESTRA would like to remind you that this is only the beginning…"

"Aeromantic" track listing:

01. Servants Of The Air

02. Divinyls

03. If Tonight Is Our Only Chance

04. This Boy's Last Summer

05. Curves

06. Transmissions

07. Aeromantic

08. Golden Swansdown

09. Taurus

10. Carmencita Seven

11. Sister Mercurial

12. Dead Of Winter

"Aeromantic" was recorded at the Nordic Sound Labs using the same drum kit that was used during the recordings of ABBA's 1980 mega album "Super Trouper".

HAMMERFALL Releases 'Second To One' Video Featuring BATTLE BEAST's NOORA LOUHIMO

Swedish metallers HAMMERFALL have released the official music video for the new version of their beautiful, energetic ballad "Second To One", featuring Noora Louhimo of BATTLE BEAST. The original track was featured on HAMMERFALL's latest album "Dominion", which came out in August 2019 via Napalm Records. Louhimo's vocals complement Joacim Cans's equally multifaceted performance, making this duet a true musical highlight of the New Year. Beautiful harmonies, emotional storytelling and powerful vocal lines weave throughout the song and will light your way in dark times. The song preaches themes of trusting your instincts and following your own heart, as well as taking time for yourself.

HAMMERFALL guitarist Oscar Dronjak comments: "It all started with Joacim suggesting we should try to write a song together with our longtime producer James Michael. We went over to Los Angeles for a weekend, not knowing what to expect. Within the first 30 minutes, I played an idea I had for James. He immediately responded with some chords and melodies, and we took it from there. Together, we wrote the music in just a couple of hours and met the next day to just finalize all the details. That's how fast it can go sometimes when you get a feeling for something and the snowball just starts rolling, and it's the greatest feeling in the world. The 'hit-or-miss' weekend in this case definitely turned out as a hit."

Cans said: "Already during the writing process, I had the feeling this song would be perfect as a duet — a sort of modern 'Ozzy and Lita Ford.' I have had my eye on BATTLE BEAST and Noora Louhimo for quite some time and was blown away by her vocal skills and stage presence. I had a feeling our voices would be a perfect match. When we decided to make the duet idea reality, I just picked up the phone and called Noora who instantly said, 'Hell yeah!' Working with Noora was nothing but awesome and we bonded the second we met. Not only is she an extremely talented vocalist, she is also a fantastic human being. The great connection between Noora and I really shows in the video clip for the song."

Louhimo said: "I was contacted by Joacim and asked if I wanted to do a duet with him on 'Second To One'. My first thought was 'what an honor' and that I needed to listen to this song to make my final decision. Once I heard it, I knew it was going to be something special and agreed on the collaboration. I flew to Gothenburg for the sessions and even though I hadn't met Joacim or the others from HAMMERFALL before, it felt very natural and easy to work with them. I also agree with Joacim that we hit it off right away and you can see that in the music video how comfortable things were between us. I am so excited to be part of this and to go on tour with them with BATTLE BEAST in the end of January."

The marvelous audiovisual was directed by Patric Ullaeus, who has worked as a director for almost 30 years and has collaborated with numerous bands like IN FLAMES, EUROPE and WITHIN TEMPTATION over the years.

BATTLE BEAST will support HAMMERFALL on a European tour starting on January 30.

Video Premiere: STABBING WESTWARD's 'Dead & Gone'

Industrial rockers STABBING WESTWARD have released the official music video for "Dead & Gone", the title track of their first collection of new music since 2001. The "Dead & Gone" EP is being maddee available today (Friday, January 3) and it contains three brand new songs ("Dead & Gone", "Cold" and "Crawl") and two remixes ("Dead & Gone" and "Crawl").

STABBING WESTWARD released an EP in 1992, followed by four studio albums between 1994 and 2001. The band achieved its first certified gold albums with both 1996's "Wither Blister Burn & Peel" and 1998's "Darkest Days". After STABBING WESTWARD disbanded in 2002, frontman Christopher Hall formed THE DREAMING, with whom he recorded three albums. Hall and keyboardist Walter Flakus reformed STABBING WESTWARD in 2016 to celebrate the band's 30th anniversary, and they have continued to perform.

in 2016, STABBING WESTWARD released a re-recorded version of the song "Plastic Jesus" on the "Cold Waves V" compilation. Another track called "Home in You", which was originally written for the band's 2001 self-titled album, was made available in 2017 via the "Cold Waves VI" compilation.

STABBING WESTWARD's current lineup includes Hall, Flakus, THE DREAMING's Carlton Bost on bass, and former ORGY drummer Bobby Amaro.

In an October 2018 interview with CrypticRock.com, Hall stated about the prospect of new music from STABBING WESTWARD: "We discussed it a lot. We played Cold Waves festival last year and the year before. Both times they asked us to contribute a song to a compilation record they sell to give to the anti-suicide charity they work with. The first time we did an old song that was off the original four-song EP from 1988 that we never released. We re-recorded it and gave them that. We played it at the show, and that was the very first STABBING WESTWARD show we had done in twenty years. People were just so stoked to see us at a sold-out club in Chicago that no one cared they played a new song they didn't know. Then, the next year, after we played around a dozen shows, we gave them another new song. It was a song we had written for the self-titled album that was too heavy for it. It was a really good song; we had written 20 songs, and only used 10. We played it and I thought people would be sort of excited to hear new music. That was the moment it dawned on me, maybe people don't want to hear new music. We put the song sixth or seventh in the set, played a bunch of songs they knew, people were pumped, then I said, 'We are going to play a new song.' People cheered, then we started playing, and I saw everyone's head drop down and started looking at their phone. Everyone started glowing blue as they started looking at their social media. I thought, 'Maybe they are tweeting how awesome the new song is.' Then they never looked up again. [Laughs] I thought, 'Oh, no, they are just bored! They don't know the song, so they are taking a quick break to check their Facebook or whatever.' We lost them, and it wasn't until a couple of songs later that we regained the lost energy. That was when I was, like, 'Shit, if we do a new record, is anyone going to hear it at a show?' THE DREAMING, they always expected new music, because that's all there ever was. We mixed in some STABBING WESTWARD hits, but mostly it was all songs I had written over the past 10 years. People expected that. But at a STABBING show, people are in a mind frame of wanting to hear the songs they knew in high school or college."

He continued: "I think perhaps if we release some material, an EP or something, let people hear it, get it on Spotify, and get a chance to listen to it first. Then it's not new, and you don't know what's going on. Hopefully people are open to it, because I don't want to sing the same old songs forever and ever. We will never be a band that says, 'I'm tired of 'Save Yourself'; we are not going to play that anymore.' We will never be that band. We will always give the fans what they want, we will always play the hits and songs they want. It would be nice to occasionally toss in a new song. [Laughs] There is stuff I want to say and new stuff I want to sing about. I just don't know how excited people would be to hear it."

PORTA NIGRA Release Lyric Video For New Single "Die Augen des Basilisken"

German avant-garde black metallers, Porta Nigra, have released the third and final single from the forthcoming album, Schöpfungswut, out on January 17 via Soulseller Records.

Watch a lyric video for "Die Augen des Basilisken" below, and stream the single via Bandcamp, and Spotify.

Schöpfungswut (anger of creation), the band's third full-length album, goes back to the musical roots of the members of the band, that being traditional 1990s' Norwegian/Swedish and German black metal, with a lyrical concept that still would carry traces of its decadent DNA ("Die Kosmiker" or "Unser Weg nach Elysium"), but would also touch upon more traditional metal topics.

To present the lyrics in the necessary manner, the band decided to work together with a new vocalist, Tongue, guitarist and creator of the German black metal outfit, Chaos Invocation.

To find the right way to craft the new songs, that would consist of blast beat drumming and traditional tremolo riffing, the band chose German producer/musician Markus Stock. A collaboration that would prove rather fruitful.

For the release of the record (CD, LP and digital) the band, after two successful records for Debemur Morti Productions, decided to work together with Dutch Soulseller Records. A prolific label that has released and re-released some of the greatest classics of black metal, many of them very important for the individuals behind Porta Nigra.

Tracklisting:

"Die Kosmiker"
"Das Rad des Ixion"

"Die Entweihung von Freya"
"Unser Weg nach Elysium"
"Schöpfungswut"

MEAT LOAF Says There Is No Climate Change, Calls GRETA THUNBERG 'Brainwashed'

Legendary singer Meat Loaf has accused teenage climate-change activist Greta Thunberg of being "brainwashed," saying he believes there is no such thing as climate change.

"I feel for that Greta," he told U.K.'s Daily Mail. "She has been brainwashed into thinking that there is climate change and there isn't.

"She hasn't done anything wrong but she's been forced into thinking that what she is saying is true."

The rocker, who campaigned with Mitt Romney in 2012 and worked with Donald Trump on "The Apprentice" back in 2010, previously claimed that he lost a few gigs thanks to politics.

"I've been banned from two TV shows," he told Esquire in a 2012 interview. "Because USA Today has me listed as a Republican.

"I've heard those stories," he added "But I didn't really believe they'd do that."

The musician also said his political views were complicated. "I'm neither right nor left, and I'm not sure I'm even in the middle," he said. "I have a lot of views to the left, and I have a lot of views to the right, and that really doesn't put me in the middle. I don't know what that makes me. It makes me weird."

Thunberg has gained international media attention in recent months for her outspoken activism on climate change, including delivering an impassioned speech to the United Nations Climate Action Summit calling out world leaders for not responding to the climate crisis with more urgency.

President Trump, who has repeatedly voiced skepticism about climate change, shared video of Thunberg's speech on Twitter, and above it wrote, sarcastically, that "she seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see!"

MORGAN RIDER AND THE DEEP DARK RIVER Release "Ignite The Tempests" Music Video

Canada’s Morgan Rider And The Deep Dark River are kicking off 2020 with their new music video, "Ignite The Tempests". The track comes off their second instalment in The Deep Dark River quadrilogy saga - Leviathan And The Deep Dark Blue (North Soul Records) released this past November.

Morgan Rider explains the story of track: "For 'Ignite The Tempests', the choruses are slower and doomier, they give a reprieve from the harder intro, mid section and outro to tell the story of The Tempest, who is enraged and casts his full weight upon the shore-dweller structure - crushing it utterly. His throes ignite the storms of the oceans and his writhing withers the numbers of the loathsome shore-dwellers. With a titanous gale of might, he sends the waters in full force at the green shores - crushing the structures of the poisoning shore-dwellers, bringing ruinous death to their kind and drowning the lands for many miles."

Morgan Rider And The Deep Dark River combine all the humble qualities of blues, folk and classical into a well-balanced, artfully crafted musical reflection on life, hope and old-fashioned storytelling while delivering a uniquely fresh and uplifting listening experience.

MY DYING BRIDE To Release 'The Ghost Of Orion' Album In March; 'Your Broken Shore' Single Available

British doom metal veterans MY DYING BRIDE will release their new studio album, "The Ghost Of Orion", on March 6 via Nuclear Blast.

The new MY DYING BRIDE record features a more accessible style compared to some of the band's past, highly technical releases. "The Ghost Of Orion" features compositions not only of epic proportions but of intimate quality too, from death metal vocals to the pained cries of a vocalist in longing. The LP will raise and fall like the beautiful landscape of Yorkshire in which it was recorded.

With layer upon layer of guitars both heavy and harmonic, Andrew Craighan has created a rich soundscape that is beautifully epic, enhanced with violins and keys from Shaun MacGowan along with the ominous murmur of cello from acclaimed cellist Jo Quail. And speaking of guest artists, the wondrous voice of Lindy-Fay Hella (WARDRUNA) adds an ethereal beauty to the album. Adding his particular style of drumming this time round is Jeff Singer, whose percussion exploits have elevated the band's rhythm section to another level aided by the effortlessly stylish Lena Abe on bass guitar. Aaron Stainthorpe delivers a compelling and often disturbing performance with his own particular style of vocals offering sincere eulogies along with the visceral carnage of a soul in pain, with poetic lyrics of a quality not often seen in this genre.

The first single from "The Ghost Of Orion", a song called "Your Broken Shore", can be streamed below. A music video for the track will be released on January 10.

Here, with the old hilltop abbey Monte Cassino looking down on the two front, the Axis and the Allies duel it out in a bloody and tiring fight for control of central Italy."

AMARANTHE Releases Cover Of SABATON's '82nd All The Way'

Ahead of their European tour with SABATON and APOCALYPTICA, Swedish/Danish metallers AMARANTHE have released the official music video for their cover version of SABATON's "82nd All The Way".

AMARANTHE guitarist Olof Mörck states: "People who are familiar with AMARANTHE know that we do not frequently do covers, but there was something quite irresistible about interpreting SABATON's '82nd All The Way'. While being thematically different from most of our songs, musically it made perfect sense, and it was a joy to pick the song apart and put it back together to something classically AMARANTHE sounding. So, this is our small tribute to the mighty Swedish war machine that is SABATON: '82nd All The Way'!"

AMARANTHE will embark on a North American headlining tour in the summer/fall of 2020. The 37-date trek will kick-off at the Soundstage in Baltimore on August 20, 2020 and will make stops in Chicago, Vancouver and Denver before concluding on October 2, 2020 at the Riverfront Live in Cincinnati, Ohio. Support on the trek will come Finnish metallers BATTLE BEAST and the Boston symphonic metal band SEVEN SPIRES.

With its foundations tracing back to 2008, AMARANTHE has released five albums thus far, consistently delivering hauntingly catchy tunes led by their unique three-part vocals. Within their arsenal of hit singles, a myriad tracks have been received very well via press and fans alike; having also gained countless plays on both radio stations around the globe and across streaming services (the group's songs have been streamed more than 100 million times on Spotify). A string of support tours has blazed AMARANTHE's trail in front of huge crowds as well as at their own headline concerts (the group impressively once performed in front of 10,000 fans at Liseberg, Gothenburg). They have kept working incredibly hard over the years, the latest product of which culminated in the form of "Helix", which achieved them some of their highest chart positions in the band's history.

OZZY OSBOURNE's Daughter Denies He Is On His 'Deathbed,' Calls Report 'Utter Bulls**t'

Kelly Osbourne has dismissed reports that her father Ozzy Osbourne is on his "deathbed" as "utter bullshit."

The 35-year-old daughter of the BLACK SABBATH singer took to Instagram to deny the rumors that he was dying and slammed the media for publishing "sickening articles" about his supposedly worsening health.

Kelly was responding to a Radar Online story that claimed the Prince Of Darkness was frontman is "in such dire straits" that he "didn't even realize his wife, Sharon, missed the holidays with him for the first time in 40 years."

Kelly wrote: "Today I had a wonderful start to 2020. I went out to launch with my family. Then I spent the rest of the day launching and hanging out with my dad. I come home to read sickening articles about my dad supposedly being on his 'death bed' sometimes the media makes me sick!!"

She added: "It's no secret that my dad has had a rough year when it comes to his health but come the F*CK on this is utter bullshit."

Last week, Ozzy's son Jack Osbourne posted a picture of his family spending Christmas eve with the rocker and Ozzy appeared to be in great spirits.

In early 2019, Ozzy fell at his Los Angeles home, aggravating years-old injuries from his 2003 ATV accident that required new surgery. As a result, Ozzy scrapped all his 2019 tour dates, both in North America and Europe, as he recovered.

In an interview with the U.K.'s Daily Mail, Osbourne spoke out about the accident and revealed that he initially believed there was very little chance he would bounce back.

"I went to the bathroom in the night, lost my balance and landed flat on my face," he recalled. "I saw this big white flash when I hit the floor and I thought, 'You've finally done it now.' I knew it was bad, I thought I was paralyzed, so very calmly I [told my wife], 'Sharon, I can't move. I think I've done my neck. Phone an ambulance.'"

According to Ozzy, the pain was "constant" following the fall. "The first six months, I was in agony," he said. "I'd say, 'Sharon, you're not telling me the truth. I'm dying, aren't I?' I thought I'd got some terminal illness because the improvement was so slow. I'm getting better, but after the surgery, the nurses asked me on a scale of one to ten how much pain I was in, and I said, '55!' Six months of waking up in the morning and being unable to move is a miserable existence."

Ozzy's new album, "Ordinary Man", will be released later this year via Epic Records.

QUEEN's BRIAN MAY Is Ditching Meat From His Diet And Going Vegan For 'Veganuary'

QUEEN guitarist Brian May is taking part in this year's Veganuary, a campaign that aims to encourage people to go vegan at the beginning of the year.

May is one of hundreds of thousands of people who are giving up meat to become vegan for January.

In a recent Instagram post, the musician explained his reasons for the resolution, saying that he wants "to lessen the suffering of animals," "to lessen the load on our groaning planet" and to upgrade his health. He added: "As an animal campaigner, it has been bothering me for a while that I still eat animal-derived food that has caused indignity and pain to a non-human animal. So I will try to move along the line. I won't be pressuring anyone else to do the same, and it won't change my commitment to helping farmers solve the problem of bovine TB. But ... for me ... it's time."

On January 1, May said that the first day of his vegan diet "went okay" and revealed that his local Chinese takeout restaurant is "kind enough to make sure they help" in his "new identity as a vegan."

"This is definitely a new journey," the guitarist wrote. "But I already felt a benefit in my head. I watched a program on wildlife in the ocean, and noticed that my usual feelings of guilt, because of eating seafood in spite of wanting to protect these beautiful creatures, was absent. It's perhaps the beginnings of the feeling of congruity that I'm searching for in my life. Well, it took me 72 years to get to this point. … So I ain't gonna do any preachin'!"

The Veganuary organizers ask participants to sign an online pledge promising that for the month of January, they will stick to a vegan diet — that is, no meat or animal products.

In 2019, almost half a million people signed up, and this year, the organizers are aiming for 350,000, according to The Washington Post.

Veganuary launched in the United Kingdom in 2014 and has now expanded to the United States where food companies, restaurants, other businesses, and celebrities are currently promoting the campaign throughout January.

NEW MESSIAH Launch Music Video For Cover Of BILLY JOEL Classic “Scenes From An Italian Restaurant”

New Messiah, featuring C. Will Harden on guitars and Craig Cefola (Dukes, Wheelhouse Junction) on drums, recently released their debut album, Voice Of Choice. A video for the cover of Billy Joe's “Scenes From An Italian Restaurant” can be seen below.

Says Craig Cefola: "This Billy Joel classic was known for it's piano and saxophone foundation and it's long and winding road of emotional ups and downs. We turned the piano sections into acoustic guitar, the brass instrument parts into electric guitar solos and made this unique cover that I'm sure you have never heard done this way if at all. I hope you can appreciate the countless hours that went into this track."

Voice Of Choice includes 20 cover songs that showcase several singers including drummer Tom Hunting (Exodus). Tom hand picked the Stevie Wonder classic “You Haven’t Done Nothin’” as a song he always wanted to cover, along with three others including The Bus Boys’ “Boys Are Back In Town”, Jerry Reed’s “East Bound And Down” and The Time’s “Jungle Love” that also sparked the interest of Rock & Roll Hall Of Famer, Darryl “DMC” McDaniels. Darryl wrote his part in that song and helped to open the album with this original take on Morris Day’s classic from the Prince film Purple Rain.

Rob Dukes (Exodus, Generation Kill, Fragile Mortals) also lends his vocals to tracks. Rob can be heard on the Judas Priest classic “Turbo Lover”, Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Simple Man” and Tom Petty’s “Refugee”, all songs hand picked by Dukes who has worked with life long friend Craig Cefola for decades. Rob was instrumental in helping to get this project off the ground and brought in some of these amazing vocalists to help make this unique collection of covers a reality.

Jack Gibson (Exodus, Testament) and Craig Cefola share their respect for Jerry Reed on “East Bound And Down” from the film “Smokey And The Bandit”. Jack plays bass on the track and also performs the song with his side band (Coffin Hunter).

Venezuelan rocker Deibys Artigas is featured on “Hell Is For Children”, “Call Me”, “The Final Countdown”, the Spanish classic “Bailando” and the Billy Joel masterpiece “Scenes From An Italian Restaurant”, a song that took the band several months to create. Piano parts were turned into Acoustic Guitar, while Saxophone and Clarinet morphs into ripping lead guitar solos.

Tbilisi-based vocalist Esté is featured on “Hot Stuff”, “Our Lips Are Sealed”, “Reach Out” and The Cars classic “Moving In Stereo”. She was the first vocalist on the project and inspired the band to expand the collection to a full album release.

Mitch Saul (Kick Start Charlie) brings his unique vocal stylings to “Holiday Road” from the film “National Lampoon’s Vacation”. The band tried out several singers before finally finding the right voice for this rarely covered Lindsey Buckingham classic.

James Arthur (Wheelhouse Junction) pays tribute to Johnny Cash for the hard rock version of “Folsom Prison Blues”.

Finally, New Messiah guitarist C. Will Harden get’s his chance to shine vocally on Fleetwood Mac’s “Gold Dust Woman”.

This unique collection of covers brings together a special group of excellent talent and pays tribute to these vocalist’s favorite songs. Be sure and check out the album tracks on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Google Play and many streaming services. An album preview can be found below.

SATYRICON's FROST Says SATYR 'Has Become One Of The Greatest Composers' In Black Metal Today

Dead Rhetoric's Kyle McGinn recently conducted an interview with drummer Kjetil-Vidar "Frost" Haraldstad of Norwegian black metallers SATYRICON. A few excerpts from the chat follow below.

Dead Rhetoric: Looking back on "Rebel Extravaganza", what were your intentions for the album when writing it?

Frost: "It was a bit special with that album. Every SATYRICON album is pretty much made in the same way, meaning that every album is made because it's something we want to hear. What we do on the albums is what constitutes us and our spirit, and the way that we grow and develop. 'Rebel Extravaganza' is no exception, but perhaps for the only time in SATYRICON's history we were a little political about it as well. We realized that SATYRICON was in a spearhead position in the world of black metal music. It was a responsibility that we kind of acknowledged and respected.

"Where black metal was heading in the late '90s, we weren't too pleased with the direction. We felt that it was really a task that we had to take seriously — to show a different way that the one that most bands were heading on. You might remember how black metal was getting more and more gothic influences in terms of the music itself, as well as the imagery as well. We felt that these were meant to be more contrasting and secondary elements, and now they were being given one of the main functions, such as synthesizers, [clean] vocals, and all of that softer stuff. We didn't really like that development, and with 'Rebel Extravaganza', we really tried to strip our music from those elements ourselves and brought something colder and more harsh into it.

"So 'Rebel Extravaganza' turned out to be the album that we wanted to make, but it's colored by our perception of where black metal was heading, which was not a good place. I think that today, it's obvious that 'Rebel Extravaganza' is an album that created quite a difference in the black metal world in the late '90s. It was an album that changed a lot. That's also the reason that the album carries some extra significance for us today."

Dead Rhetoric: Do you have any particular memories that resound with you, other than what we were just talking about, from those particular times?

Frost: "I do remember quite a bit. 'Rebel Extravaganza' was really a lot of hard work and struggle in order to make it come across as extreme as it did. We were adding quite a few unconventional elements to the music. I was much more of a traditionalist, while [main songwriter/frontman] Satyr has been very unafraid of experimenting and trying out new elements — being a bit bold about it. For me to understand where he wanted us to head, that was a bit of a learning process. It's not only about understanding the music and the songs, but also the concept of the album. Understanding how it would probably sound with those elements added to it. 'Rebel Extravaganza' is an album that has a lot of sound effects added to it — analog synthesizers and things like that. It was unfamiliar territory.

"When you put all of those layers and sounds into it, it's pretty much a game-changer. But before the songs are made with every element in place, you can't quite understand how it will exactly sound. When you work in the rehearsal space, and having only the drums and guitar, it's a bit difficult to imagine how it will all sound once all of the synthesizers and effects are there. You have to imagine what it will be like, and how it includes the musical solutions, which includes the drum solutions. I had to have Satyr guide me a lot, and make certain decisions on my behalf, because he was the only one that really knew where we were heading. When I heard the album for the first time, it sounded quite different than how I imagined it would be. Perhaps I wanted it to be a little more conventional, because I couldn't really understand where all of those more radical moves until the album was done.

"As we went through it, I started to understand what a beast it was. How cold and harsh, and how different and unconventional it was. But I liked it — I liked it for the extremity and the boldness – only then did I understand what 'Rebel Extravaganza' was all about. Struggling with material that you don't understand fully is pretty tough and demanding, so I remember that. It was fascinating to work with something that diverse, and at times, so extreme. That's something that enjoyed a lot because it was right down my alley."

Dead Rhetoric: Does being in both SATYRICON and 1349 allow you to explore different avenues within black metal?

Frost: "Absolutely. It makes it possible for me to explore different sides of what I do as a drummer and different sides of this exciting musical genre. In SATYRICON, it's really about understanding the composition of an ingenious composer because I regard Satyr as such. I think he has become one of the greatest composers in this genre today — I find him to be a visionary. How he perceives his musical goals and ideas is something that fascinates me a lot and I have huge respect for it. The way that he composes music, my role in the band is really to understand what he wants to achieve and to be as much of a part of that as possible. To find good drum solutions and add something to those brilliant compositions, and maybe add some extra spirit and personality. I can only hope that is something positive with SATYRICON. I have to imagine what another person is trying to achieve.

"In 1349, I rely mostly on my own instincts. Whenever I make drumming solutions and perform, it's about feeling those instincts and being led by intuition. Just letting that spirit fill me completely. There's nothing held back, and I can make use of my most energetic and aggressive sides as a drummer. I like that a lot, and I think it defines part of my style as well. I'm very happy that there is something else. Without the development that has been forced onto me in SATYRICON, I would have been a much poorer musician, with a much more narrow type of expression. I've grown and developed a lot because of that, which I appreciate deeply. Today I consider both of those bands to be essential, each in their own respect."

You can read the entire interview at this location.

The fully remastered "Rebel Extravaganza" was released as a special limited 20th-anniversary picture double vinyl edition, as 2-LP gatefold and digipack on December 13 via Napalm Records.

SATYRICON's latest album, "Deep Calleth Upon Deep", was released in September 2017 via Napalm Records. The disc was recorded in Oslo, Norway and Vancouver, Canada, during early 2017 and mixed together with revered studio guru Mike Fraser (who previously worked on "Now, Diabolical").

PAUL DI'ANNO Says K.K. DOWNING Should Be Involved In JUDAS PRIEST's 50th-Anniversary Tour

Paul D'Anno says that K.K. Downing should return to JUDAS PRIEST for the band's 50th-anniversary tour.

The former IRON MAIDEN singer made his comments during a brand new interview with Canada's The Metal Voice.

Asked if Downing should be involved in PRIEST's live performances celebrating the band's half-century milestone, Di'Anno said (hear audio below): "Yeah, I think he should [come back] for the 50th anniversary. I don't see why they would say no. I have no idea, really. It would be great, actually, 'cause we've been talking about, once [I've recovered from my health issues], I'm gonna go and do a concert at K.K.'s Still Mill [Downing-owned venue in Wolverhampton, England], which will be good. But, obviously, everything is all on standby at the minute. But I'd love to do that, 'cause I've got a lot of respect for K.K. I think he's a brilliant guitar player."

This past November, Downing revealed that he reached out to JUDAS PRIEST "to gather their thoughts" on the possibility of him participating in the 2020 tour. According to the guitarist, his former bandmates were "not receptive" to his involvement in the trek and they "do not intend to include" him in the shows.

Downing left PRIEST in 2011 amid claims of band conflict, shoddy management and declining quality of performance. He was replaced by Richie Faulkner, nearly three decades his junior.

In 2018, Downing told SiriusXM's Eddie Trunk that the contentious rivalry between PRIEST and IRON MAIDEN developed when the two bands toured together in the early 1980s. "I read in a music paper that [IRON MAIDEN said] something like, 'Yeah, we're gonna blow the bollocks off PRIEST,' or something like that. And I went, 'What the hell is this shit?'" But they eventually patched up their differences, according to K.K. "I did meet Paul Di'Anno so many years later, in about 1995, and he said, 'Hey, K.K., we're sorry about that quote in the paper,'" the guitarist said. "And that's all you need."

Di'Anno has battled a number of health issues in recent years. He reportedly underwent an operation in 2016 to remove a "rugby ball-sized abscess" on his lungs and required a knee-replacement operation on both knees after getting involved in several motorcycle accidents over the years. As a result, Di'Anno was forced to sit down while performing at his most recent shows.

NIGHTWISH Release Official Live Video For "Slaying The Dreamer" From Decades: Live In Buenos Aires

Nightwish have released a new performance video for  "Slaying The Dreamer", featured on the band's Decades: Live In Buenos Aires release, out now. Watch below:

Released back in 2018, Decades was so much more than a run-of-the-mill best-of. This comprehensive chronology of the band’s first two decades not only marked the band’s 20th anniversary; it was also the end of yet another era in the stellar career of Finland’s internationally most successful group. The consequent tour, too, was so much more than a regular anniversary run; from March 9 to December 15, 2018, the seventh Nightwish world tour enthralled 82 cities across Europe, North America and South America - armed with a once-in-a-lifetime setlist.

Enter the stage Decades: Live In Buenos Aires! The divine new live release from Finland’s finest was captured by 19 cameras on that extraordinary night in Argentina. Nightwish came out to the rousing "End Of All Hope" and took their bow to the unmatched epic "Ghost Love Score". In between saw a set filled with pure trailblazing Finnish glory -  incorporating distinguished tracks "Wish I Had An Angel", "Sacrament Of Wilderness", "Elvenpath", "Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean", "Dead Boy’s Poem" and many more… The evening saw countless goose bumps and unforgettable scenes - the definition of an unforgettable night, now documented for all eternity.

The title is available in BluRay Digibook, 2CD Digipak, BluRay+2CD Earbook, and 3LP editions. Order your copy at the official Nightwish webshop here, or from Nuclear Blast here.
