Exclusive: HAZZERD Premieres “Victim Of A Desperate Mind” Lyric Video

Calgary-based thrash group Hazzerd – whose sophomore album, Delirium, will be released January 24 via M-Theory Audio – have unveiled a lyric video for their blistering new song “Victim Of A Desperate Mind.” The clip, designed by Rafael Ortega of Ecliptic Visions, is being premiered through BraveWords! Check it out and get thrashed with Hazzerd!

“Victim Of A Desperate Mind” is also now available on Spotify, Apple Music, Bandcamp and other digital platforms. In addition, the song is one of two “instant grat” downloads that are included with digital pre-orders of “Delirium.” Physical pre-orders on CD, cassette and limited-edition colored vinyl can be reserved at this location.

Says drummer Dylan Westendorp, “'Victim Of A Desperate Mind' is one of the longer cuts on Delirium, and it has some of the album's darker lyrical content. The song revolves around the topics of addiction, depression and suicide, issues that are unfortunately very real in today’s society. The lyrics are written from the perspective of a person who is trapped in their own mind and stuck with their dark thoughts. Even though these are not the most positive lyrics, we have hope that someone who is going through this type of situation will hear them, relate and realize that they are not alone. Musically, 'Victim' is one of the more complex songs we have written to date. Overall, we feel it's the best song to unveil as the second taste of our upcoming record.”

The album, which features cover artwork by Andrei Bouzikov (Municipal Waste, Skeletonwitch, Toxic Holocaust), was recorded earlier this year at Calgary's MCC Recording Studio and mixed and mastered by Johnny Gasparic (Into Eternity).

Hazzerd was initially formed by drummer/lead vocalist Westendorp and guitarist Brendan Malycky, two Calgary teens who were inspired by the early work of thrash legends such as Overkill, Metallica and Anthrax. The group self-released their debut EP, “Victimize The Innocent,” in 2014. The following year, the band recruited then-18-year-old lead guitarist Toryin Schadlich.

In 2017, soon after solidifying the group's lineup with the addition of bassist David Sprague, Hazzerd recorded their full-length debut, Misleading Evil, which was released via Canada's World War Now Records.

This year, Hazzerd caught the attention of M-Theory Audio after being featured on Gimme Radio, where Megadeth founder Dave Mustaine championed the group as a promising thrash hopeful. He also included the band on his personal list of record collection picks, where Hazzerd were one of only two up-and-coming artists (the other being Power Trip) listed.

In recent years, Hazzerd has performed alongside the likes of Striker, Vicious Rumors, Archspire, Spellcaster, and Grim Reaper in addition to playing noted Canadian festivals such as Loud As Hell and Armstrong MetalFest. Lately, the group completed a successful string of shows across Canada supporting Hatchet. Hazzerd’s next scheduled appearance will take place this Saturday, December 7 at the Starlite Room in Edmonton, Alberta as part of Metal For Mutts – a charity event to benefit the Edmonton Humane Society. More information is available on Facebook.

BEHEMOTH Frontman's ME AND THAT MAN Project Releases 'Run With The Devil' Video

Blackened blues project ME AND THAT MAN — founded in 2013 by BEHEMOTH frontman Adam "Nergal" Darski — has released a new single, "Run With The Devil", featuring Jørgen Munkeby of Norwegian "blackjazz" collective SHINING. The song is accompanied by an outstanding-yet-unsettling official video, directed by Roman Przylipiak and inspired by the unmistakable atmosphere of Quentin Tarantino's cinematic classics.

A work of art in itself, the video sketches a dynamic outline of all the stylistic milestones ME AND THAT MAN set for their musical journey. Released from the trunk of a car, Jørgen starts his adventurous run with the Devil himself, i.e. Nergal. From a sketchy encounter in a gloomy alleyway, driving down the highway running over an innocent bystander and a blazing club where the band is performing in front of a wild crowd, "Run With The Devil" has it all. As the story unfolds, the observant viewer will be confronted with cryptic hints and hidden messages.

Roaring engines, Munkeby's distinctive vocals and soulful saxophone contributions weave throughout the foot-stomping blues-rock anthem's upbeat tempo and indelible hook, brewing a dark and addictive musical potion.

Nergal comments: "This one was a lot of fun! When I first started thinking of the imagery to the track, I wanted to create something more than a music video — I wanted a music movie which carries on from where 'Nightride' left off. Don't take it too seriously — we're metaphorically burying the past and bringing in a new! A great way to introduce the next incarnation of ME AND THAT MAN… but what next? Stick around, there is plenty of rather splendid things to see soon!"

ME AND THAT MAN released its debut album, "Songs Of Love And Death", in 2017 — introducing the world to its unique brand of folk and blues, mixed with hints of outlaw country. The atmospherically dark album provided a strong contrast to BEHEMOTH with its catchy melodies and relaxed rhythms, and gave Nergal space to express his creativity in a different setting. Since its release, the album's lead single, "My Church Is Black", has racked up over 2.5 million streams on Spotify.

Darski has been a fixture in the music industry for years. As the frontman of black/death metal band BEHEMOTH, Darski has been known to preach unholy sermons, praise Satan and sing about explicit blasphemy. Naturally, the next step was to channel those themes into another genre commonly dubbed as the Devil's music — blues. ME AND THAT MAN is exactly that — Nergal's solo project will surprise and bewitch the listener. The visionary creative founded the band in an effort to showcase his true ability to adapt to any genre. In summer 2018, British/Polish rock musician John Porter left ME AND THAT MAN after the band completed a number of gigs in support of "Songs Of Love And Death".

Ex-MEGADETH Guitarist MARTY FRIEDMAN: 'Drugs Are Very Silly To Me'

Former MEGADETH guitarist Marty Friedman spoke to Australia's Silver Tiger Media about the music industry's "sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll" ethos and how it has somewhat been taken over in recent years by a desire to be healthy and fit.

"You know, I'm not a guy who likes to promote drugs, but I think the whole 'sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll' attitude is right for the music," Marty said. "I don't think 'sex, smoothies and rock 'n' roll' sounds so good. [Laughs]"

He continued: "I think that the image is cool, but I can tell you with a hundred percent certainty that if you do do a lot of things like drugs that are definitely not good for your health, there's no way you're going to have a long career. And not that every superstar needs a long career. I mean, some things were not meant to be done forever, and every single person has a different way of presenting their art, so I'm not for or against every person's personal choice — it's completely up to that person. But in my case, I'm not one of those health maniacs, but I'm very conscious of not doing things that can be prevented. So drugs are very silly to me, because it can be completely detrimental to your health, your looks, your athletic ability, your everything. So when you play music, I like to be completely in the moment and completely energized and motivated and stuff like that. But, you know, every single person's different and I haven't done any of those sorts of things since I was sixteen."

Friedman previously addressed the topic of drugs in a 2017 interview with Ultimate Guitar. Revealing that he wanted the "Self-Pollution" track off his latest studio album, "Wall Of Sound", to have a "stoney" section in the middle, he explained: "I'm not a big drug person or pot person but when I was on tour for [2014's] 'Inferno' last time, I noticed in every city it smelled like pot everywhere I was going. Not just the venues, but you go into the 7-Eleven and it smells like pot in there and the airport smells like pot... I started to think back when I was a little kid and doing that stuff, certain kinds of motifs really spoke out to me when I was under the influence of certain things. They were my go-to jams at that particular time and I tried to channel that."

He continued: "I'm not condoning doing drugs or not doing drugs — I'm really quite against it — but people are gonna do it. It was an important part of my childhood and I remember how important the music was when I was under the influence. I wanted to have a section somewhere on the album that spoke to that and I knew I was gonna sandwich it between some really, really brutal, wake-you-up-out-of-your-stupor-type riffs."

Friedman is continuing to tour in support of "One Bad M.F. Live!!", which was released in October 2018. The album was recorded in Mexico City on April 14, 2018 during the final concert of Friedman's world tour in support of "Wall Of Sound".

Joining Friedman on "One Bad M.F. Live!!" are his bandmates Kiyoshi on bass, Jordan Ziff (RATT) on guitar and Chargeeee on drums.

Jul. 24 - Budapest, Hungary @ Puskas Stadium

Jul. 27 - Mönchengladbach, Germany @ Sparkassenpark

AEROSMITH recently extended its "Deuces Are Wild" Las Vegas residency with 15 more dates in early 2020 due to "extraordinary demand."

The band has been playing without drummer Joey Kramer, who is recovering after twisting his ankle during rehearsal. Filling in for him is Kramer's drum tech, John Douglas.

AEROSMITH enlisted THE BEATLES archival producer Giles Martin, who co-designed the sound for Cirque Du Soleil's THE BEATLES "Love" show, to supervise its sound in Vegas.

In 2017, AEROSMITH announced a run of dates called "Aero-Vederci Baby!", but stopped short of calling it a final tour.

The legendary Boston rockers haven't released a new studio album since 2012's "Music From Another Dimension!" That effort was released when AEROSMITH's label, Columbia Records, was reportedly going through a leadership change, and it ended up becoming a commercial disappointment.

The lackluster response to "Music From Another Dimension!" later caused two bandmembers — guitarist Joe Perry and drummer Joey Kramer — to question whether there's any point in AEROSMITH making future albums.

BANISHER Signs To Selfmadegod Records; Fourth Album, Degrees Of Isolation, To See Release In February

Selfmadegod Records announces the signing of Polish death metal act Banisher for the release of their fourth album, Degrees Of Isolation. Now confirmed for release in late February, the label has issued the cover art, tracklisting, and other details on the record.

LOVEKILLERS Feat. TONY HARNELL Release "Set Me Free" Lyric Video

Frontiers Music Srl will release the self-titled debut album from melodic rock project, Lovekillers feat. Tony Harnell, tomorrow, Friday, December 6. Pre-order the album here, and watch a lyric video for the song "Set Me Free", below.

Well known for being the vocalist of TNT’s classic lineup, Tony Harnell is an accomplished musician and songwriter who has also worked with such bands as Starbreaker and Westworld, while also performing as a solo artist. Harnell's vocals are unique entity in the melodic hard rock and rock worlds and Lovekillers marks a return to a sound reminiscent of classic '80s melodic hard rock. The album is an over-the-top and straight ahead tribute to that classic '80s sound, bringing it back with a passion and the amazing vocal register that only Harnell can deliver.

“I think Lovekillers is a different beast compared to many of the things I worked on in the past,” says Tony. “It has a lighter, more American and very melodic feel. It was a very comfortable territory, artistically, singing those songs. Sometimes, I also worked to tweak some lyrics and melodies here and there and on a couple of songs I worked harder to rewrite them, but I think the end result speaks for itself.”

On this album, Tony collaborated with in-demand Frontiers in-house producer Alessandro Del Vecchio (Hardline, Jorn, Revolution Saints) and the end result is a a glossy, polished record with top-notch production. Besides Del Vecchio and Harnell, songwriters on the album include Nigel Bailey, Pete Alpenborg, Marco Sivo, and Jonas Hornqvist.

Tony Harnell recently became the first American to be inducted into Norway's prestigious Rockheim Hall of Fame. He was inducted along with TNT and the ceremony will be televised nationally in Norway later this year.

For melodic rock fans, Lovekillers feat. Tony Harnell is a can't miss.

PSYCHOTIC WALTZ To Release The God-Shaped Void Album In February; First Details Revealed

US progressive metal pioneers and innovators, Psychotic Waltz, return in full original lineup with their fifth studio album and first new music in 23 years. Entitled The God-Shaped Void, the upcoming new album and InsideOutMusic debut will be released on February 14.

The basic tracks for The God-Shaped Void were recorded with engineer Ulrich Wild in the band’s hometown of San Diego, then the rest of the recordings at Studio D in Austria and finally the material was mixed/mastered by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Devin Townsend, Fates Warning) at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden. Artwork, as seen below, was created by longtime visual partner Travis Smith (Katatonia, Riverside, Nevermore).

Psychotic Waltz guitarist Dan Rock checked in to comment about the creation and recording process of The God-Shaped Void: “First we’d like to thank all the fans who have supported us over the years. The new album would probably not exist if it were not for the good times and fan support we had on our reunion tours of Europe in 2011/2012. It really sunk in how cool I would be to make new music again, instead of just continually playing the first four albums. With all of us living further apart, especially Devon, it was a much slower process than having all five of us in the same room like we used to. But times change, and the Internet helped quite a bit.  Normally, Brian and I would come up with guitar parts at home, whether alone or together. Sometimes we would program a basic drum beat for Norm to latch onto the vibe that we were feeling, and some of those stayed, while others were greatly improved upon by his far superior drum skills. We took our time (obviously) and went one song at a time and rehearsed it and recorded it in the jam room until we were musically happy with it. Then I would upload the individual tracks for Devon to download in his home studio so that he could remix it, and really see what each guy was doing.  He was able to add vocals, make edits and rearrange parts that made for sense for him as a singer, and then send it back to us to review, retrack or punch in if needed… we did all of our pre-production mixes that way.

“I think Devon did a really great job considering the process, but we all wanted to bring in a professional set of outside ears with more experience. We were fortunate enough to have Ulrich Wild come down to San Diego and do all the basic tracking in a little-known local studio called Rarefied. Even better, Jens Bogren had an opening in his schedule at Fascination Street Studios and was able to mix and master it for us. And none of this would have been possible if InsideOutMusic didn’t have the faith in us that they did to release a new record after such a long time. Many thanks go out to everybody who made it possible after all these years. We hope you find it worth the wait!”

A first single and the pre-order for The God-Shaped Void in its various formats (Ltd. and Standard CD, 2LP on 180gr. black vinyl as well as limited coloured editions and also Digital Download) will be available as of December 13, so stay tuned for more news soon.

Re-releases of the entire Psychotic Waltz catalogue will follow through InsideOutMusic later in 2020 and next live activities in support of the new album will be revealed soon too.

SABATON History Channel Uploads "The Last Stand" - The 1527 Sack Of Rome; Video

The Sabaton History Channel has released Episode 044 - "The Last Stand" - The 1527 Sack Of Rome.

A message states: "In 1527, a large Holy Roman army consisting of Germans, Spaniards and Italians march on Rome frustrated over unpaid wages and lacking supplies. Pope Clement VII seeks shelter as Rome is pillaged and burned while his brave Swiss Guard makes a heroic last stand."

Sabaton presents another musical collaboration with the Finnish cello rock band Apocalyptica, after the success with "Fields Of Verdun". With the "Angels Calling" single release, Sabaton also give their fans a good taste of what to expect on the European tour.

Anyone who will attend the upcoming concerts will experience a truly unique live show since  Sabaton will be reinforced by Apocalyptica on stage for several newly arranged songs, including this one.

"'Angels Calling' was the first song we wrote on the topic of World War 1 for the Attero Dominatus album back in 2006, and together with Apocalyptica we have really given the song a new life. Due to the song's topic, our recent album, the upcoming tour and a great demand from fans, the song is now back on the setlist for the tour.

"The song's arrangement was made in August, when Apocalyptica visited our hometown Falun to perform at the Sabaton Open Air festival. It was recorded in Black Lounge studios by Jonas Kjellgren and the Apocalyptica parts were later recorded in Finland.

"Richard Erixon, our long time video producer, captured the best moments from the rehearsals in Falun and edited it into a music video for the song.

"We wanted this tour to offer something that we have never done before, and when I attended an Apocalyptica show in Madrid a few years ago I already had a strong vision to perform together, so I explained the idea to Apocalyptica and here we are, with the best show we have ever done”, says Pär Sundström

"Angels Calling" is exclusively released on YouTube and will be available on all major platforms on January 17. Watch the video below:

BEWITCHER Premiere "Under The Witching Cross" Video

Satanic speed metalers Bewitcher have premiered their new video "Under the Witching Cross". The track hails from the album of the same name, Under The Witching Cross, released this past May via Shadow Kingdom Records.

As presaged by their Too Fast For The Flames 7" on Shadow Kingdom in early 2019, Bewitcher are leaner and especially meaner than ever! The power-trio built their name in the underground on the back of three cult demos and especially their self-titled debut album in 2016, and now arrives Under The Witching Cross to present the band in their crudest 'n' rudest form: Rough 'n' rowdy speed metal of a most classic '80s aspect, with a touch of good, old-fashioned evil the way Venom and early Razor did it way back in the day.

In fact, one could say Bewitcher are a veritable time-machine of enviable, unbelievable proportions - except you look at the calendar and realize you're living in the present! But Bewitcher don't give a fuck, and proceed to pulverize you with pounding metal, one anthem after another, on the eight-track / 33-minute Under The Witching Cross. We can also mention Celtic Frost, early Sodom, Exciter, and even a touch of Dissection as ever-honorable influences here, so you know Bewitcher are the absolute real deal!

Under The Witching Cross cover art and tracklisting:

"Savage Lands Of Satan"
"Hexenkrieg"
"Under The Witching Cross"
"Heathen Woman"
"Too Fast For The Flames"
"In The Sign Of The Goat"
"Rome Is On Fire"
"Frost Moon Ritual"

KILL RITUAL Release "King Of Fools" Lyric Video

San Francisco Bay Area metallers, Kill Ritual, have released a lyric video for "King Of Fools", featured on their upcoming album, The Opaque And The Divine. Watch the clip below.

Says the band: "We're at it again gang! We've changed gears a bit on this song with a cool techno type dance grooves and some skillin' and chillin' rap vox... NOT!!! Fortunately for all this tune features the almighty Andy La Rocque from King Diamond on a guest solo so it's pretty damn F$#kin' METAL! Hail Thee!"

Pre-save / pre-order the album digitally and stream "King Of Fools" here.

The CD, recorded at Sonic Train Studios and Fossil Sound by Andy La Rocque and Steven D. Rice, introduces new powerhouse vocalist Chalice to the fold. Guest appearances include Andy La Rocque (King Diamond), Joey Concepcion (Sanctuary, Armageddon) and Chris Lotesto (Ion Vein), so expect eight tracks that shift from all out pure metal to progressive tinged metal epics. Kill Ritual continue their evolution as a forward thinking traditional metal band.

Kill Ritual guitarist/founder Steven D. Rice comments; “The next chapter of Kill Ritual is totally logical as the band keeps moving forward. A bigger production, complex arrangements and huge riffs with progressive underlying tones are on the menu this time. My original concept of the band has always been big and we’ve gotten a little closer with this release. The huge scope of material and what it says about things in this present day are universal and the story is timeless. There’s no poor me, blame them, fight the power, hump the old lady, magic rock BS. It’s the classic Good vs. Evil story that will hold true forever. What’s changed? Nothing and it never will. Mankind will always destroy what he loves. The new track 'Rest In Pain' is Kill Ritual laying down some proper old school metal which actually sounds refreshing in this current metal climate of down tuned copycat over produced shit being being passed off as metal over and over again. From classic riffing to proper metal vocals the track is definitely a good indication of where the band is going in the future. Enjoy!”

The Opaque And The Divine tracklisting:

"Rest In Pain"
"Dead God"
"King Of Fools"
"World Gone Mad"
"Praise The Dead"
"The Veil Of The Betrayer"
"Touch The Dark"
"A Child To Die For Again"

“Rest In Pain” lyric video:

Kill Ritual:

Chalice: Vocals, squirrel whisper
Steven D. Rice: Guitars, Bass, Keyboards, Vocals, pan flute
Seamus Gleason: Drums, chaos, beer and vodka runs

ANVIL: Cartoon Lyric Video For New Song 'Nabbed In Nebraska'

The official cartoon lyric video for the song "Nabbed In Nebraska" from Canadian metal legends ANVIL can be seen below. The track is taken from the band's upcoming album, "Legal At Last", due on February 14, 2020 via AFM Records as a digipak, on digital, black vinyl and some limited colored vinyl.

ANVIL, a Toronto-based group, was formed in 1978 by childhood friends, guitarist/vocalist Steve "Lips" Kudlow and drummer Robb Reiner. Both came from Jewish families and had been playing music together since their teens. ANVIL is considered to have been an influence on many metal bands, including METALLICA, MEGADETH, SLAYER and ANTHRAX.

Though initially a four-piece band, ANVIL's current lineup includes Kudlow, Reiner and bassist Chris Robertson.

ANVIL gained popularity and new fans since the 2008 theatrical documentary, "Anvil: The Story Of Anvil", which is currently available on Netflix.

ANVIL recorded the new disc at Soundlodge studios in Rhauderfehn in the northwest of Germany. Speaking about the LP's musical direction, Reiner told The Metal Voice: "It's just a continuation of what we've been doing for the last four or five years, really. Some very powerful riffs. It's gonna be more smashing, crushing ANVIL."

Added Kudlow: "Of course, it's all fresh and new, but the roots are still very much ourselves. Everybody who liked us before is gonna like us still, and people who didn't like us are still not gonna like us. Ultimately, that's where it's gonna sit, 'cause I am not gonna tailor my music and my songs to the people that don't like us and hope that they will. I'm gonna do the exact opposite. The people that love us, they wanna hear specific kind of tempos and riffs, and I look for those things, 'cause it's really my vocabulary, and I'm gonna continue with that — with new subjects and new things to sing about."

He continued: "I think that this album has some of the best slow pounders and some of the best fast stuff that we've ever done. You're trying to be different 'cause you don't want it to be exactly the same, 'cause then you're just repeating yourself — you're not being creative."

Regarding the "Legal At Last" title, Reiner said: "'Legal At Last' is mainly about two things. We celebrate the legalization of the ANVIL bong because Canada changed its marijuana laws last year, which means we no longer sail close to the wind all the time. That's why the album title announces that ANVIL are legal at last. Our fans have always known that, but the public at large treated us like criminals for a long time." Kudlow added: "'Legal At Last' is our way of telling the public: 'It's okay, ANVIL are okay, you're allowed to like us at last!'"

Track listing:

01. Legal At Last

02. Nabbed In Nebraska

03. Chemtrails

04. Gasoline

05. I'm Alive

06. Talking To The Wall

07. Glass House

MARDUK - Morgan Håkansson's DEATH WOLF Project Streaming New Track "Serpents Hall"

Blooddawn Productions (distributed & marketed by Regain Records) has set December 10 as the international release date for Death Wolf's fourth album, IV: Come The Dark, on CD, vinyl LP, and cassette tape formats. New track, "Serpents Hall", is streaming below.

Although it's been five long years since Death Wolf's last album, III: Östergötland, the band should require little introduction. Begun at the dawn of the new millennium by Marduk's Morgan Håkansson under the moniker Devil's Whorehouse as a means of tribute to the deathpunk sound of Samhain and the Misfits, following the band's The Howling debut EP did the band soon evolve beyond their half-covers repertoire into a deadly force all their own. In 2011, after two albums and two EPs under the Devil's Whorehouse moniker, a change in name was long overdue, and the far-more-fitting Death Wolf was chosen. Wasting no time, three albums followed in almost as many years: Death Wolf (2011), II: Black Armored Death (2013), and III: Östergötland (2014).

But, as is sometimes the case, the deadliest beasts need their slumber, and at long last does Death Wolf awaken with IV: Come The Dark. Right from the very first throttling notes, IV: Come The Dark explodes with a ferocity and finesse that suggest those years of slumber were indeed fruitful. Clear and cutting, Death Wolf are on fine form here, effortlessly crafting one dark anthem after another with their signature blend of urban-wasteland heaviness and moody-yet-incendiary hooks. At once metal, punk, rock, and goth simultaneously and yet none of 'em in any conventional sense of those words, IV: Come The Dark bewitches the imagination with a deceptively earworming sense of style; in a strange, upside-down world (or a world where simply everything is RIGHT) can one imagine most/all of these songs on the radio.

But alas, we live in a doomed world, and never will Death Wolf reign across the radio... but their reasserted dominance is nearly certain with the arrival of IV: Come The Dark, as never before have the band sounded so commanding and confident, each of these 11 anthems brimming with a granite-thick gleam that underlines the power in professionalism.

Hear the first pulse of that power with the previously revealed "With Hate" below. Pre-order the album here or here.

Tracklisting:

"With Hate"
"Edge Of The Forest"
"Empower The Flame"
"The Sword"
"Funeral Pyre"
"The Executioners Song"
"Speak Through Fire"
"Serpents Hall"
"Into The Woods"
"Iron & Flame"
"Conquerors Dance"

CRÜE fans who shelled out for the band's 2014/2015 "farewell" tour were led to believe that the group would never return after playing its final show on December 2015 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The band touted the signing of a pre-tour "cessation of touring" agreement as cementing the fact it truly was the end of CRÜE's life on the road.

On November 18 — three years and 11 months after the band played its last show — CRÜE posted a video with Machine Gun Kelly, who portrayed Tommy Lee in the band's biopic "The Dirt", explaining that due to the band "becoming more popular than ever" and "gaining an entirely new legion of fans" in the four years they've been off the road, the band felt the need to blow up their previous contract in order to come out of retirement.

Back in 2014, bassist Nikki Sixx told Rolling Stone that MÖTLEY CRÜE couldn't legally play again after the completion of the farewell tour. "The only loophole is if all four band members agreed to do it, we could override our own contract," he said. "But we know that will never happen. There are people in this band who will refuse to ever do it again, and you're talking to one of them. There is no amount of money that would ever make me do it again because I have such pride in how we’re ending it.

"If anybody ever — and I don't believe anybody ever would — would call any other bandmembers and say, 'Hey, it's been 10 years, let's just do 10 shows. A million a pop,' it could never happen unless all four bandmembers agreed," Sixx added. "And if we did agree, the way we've set it up — including this conversation right now — we'd have so much egg on our face. We have so much pride that that alone would stop it."

After the members of MÖTLEY CRÜE reunited last year to record four new songs for "The Dirt" film, some fans assumed that the group would be open to the idea of playing together again at a special event to promote the movie. But Sixx shot down the idea earlier this year, telling Rolling Stone: "Sometimes I look out at my friends, like the guys in AEROSMITH and METALLICA, and I'm, like, 'God damn it, did we retire too soon?' But there will be no one-offs in our future. Maybe we'll just get together and jam in [guitarist] Mick Mars's front room."

Byford's first-ever solo album, "School Of Hard Knocks", will be released on February 21, 2020.

Biff takes on not just tales and stories from his heart and soul, but also investigates the Middle Ages and Medieval history amongst other subjects.

"I'm singing about my past of course and about things I like, but mostly I wanted it to reflect me, my personality and my life," said Biff. "Song-wise, it's more diverse and not just focused on heavy metal. I wanted it to be a slice of the music I like, from metal, to rock 'n' roll. I'm a guy who's just as happy listening to METALLICA or Judy Garland, because as long as it's great and entertains me, then what more do I need?"

An aural Byford storybook highlighting his life and passionate interests, "School Of Hard Knocks" is in all senses a classic, masterfully constructed old-school British hard rock album.

From the spoken-word introduction of "Inquisitor" with its stoic, poetic take on the Spanish Inquisition to the autobiographical, old-school "Wheels Of Steel"-era thrust of "Welcome To The Show" (hear audio below) and "School Of Hard Knocks", you'll get to know Byford supremely well over the 11 tracks which comprise the album.

"One of my favorites is 'The Pit And The Pendulum', which is quite 'prog metal' and I love that," said Biff. "I'm a big prog rock fan and was a huge fan of YES back in the day and being a musician-bass-player myself, the musicianship in bands like that really caught me. There's a version of 'Throw Down The Sword' by WISHBONE ASH, and the reason I did that was because it was the first song I ever heard that was anything to do with history in the sense of battles and war, and was really the thing which started me on the road to writing historically driven songs."

There is also a wonderful version of the SIMON & GARFUNKEL classic "Scarborough Fair", with Byford and Fredrik Åkesson (from OPETH) creating a new arrangement which gives the legend new life.

"It's a traditional medieval song, and the story goes that Paul Simon happened to hear somebody playing it in Whitby, which is just down the road from Scarborough," laughs Biff. "But I wanted something which represented Yorkshire and it is a Yorkshire folk song, so we tried a new arrangement which made it a little heavier, and it works really well."

"School Of Hard Knocks" was produced by Biff Byford, recorded by Jacky Lehmann at Brighton Electric Studios in Brighton (U.K.) and mixed at Queen Street Studios in Stockholm (Sweden) by Mats Valentin. The album features guest appearances by Phil Campbell (MOTÖRHEAD, PHIL CAMPBELL & THE BASTARD SONS), Alex Holzwarth (RHAPSODY OF FIRE), Nick Barker (VOICES), Dave Kemp (WAYWARD SONS) and Nibbs Carter (SAXON).

On "School Of Hard Knocks", Byford worked with a new band comprising Fredrik Åkesson (OPETH) on guitars, Christian Lundqvist on drums and Gus Macricostas on bass (Biff himself played a spot of four-string thunder too!).

"School Of Hard Knocks" not only achieves the goal of providing full bore entertainment, it fulfils a long-standing Biff Byford's wish to explore rock 'n' roll a little more.

"It's been great to break new ground, explore new territories and work with some old friends," concluded Biff, "and having waited so long to make this album, I have to say, I am delighted with it! It has a whole range of styles, from the ridiculously heavy to ballads, and it is certainly my album."

HELLOWEEN's 'Pumpkins United' Lineup To Release New Studio Album In August/September 2020

The "Pumpkins United" lineup of the German heavy metal band HELLOWEEN recently entered the H.O.M.E. Studios in Hamburg (where everything started in 1984) to work on brand new song material. The same recording console used for such HELLOWEEN albums as "Master Of The Rings", "Time Of The Oath" and "Better Than Raw" is now being utilized to record the band's new studio album — featuring an "analog and deliberately back-to-the-roots" vibe, according to a press release. The effort will feature singer Michael Kiske and guitarist Kai Hansen, along with Dani Löble drumming on late HELLOWEEN drummer Ingo Schwichtenberg's original kit. Due at the end of August or beginning of September 2020, the disc is being produced by Charlie Bauerfeind and Dennis Ward, who are excited about the quality of the material they have on offer from the band.

"The 'Pumpkins United' world tour 2017-2019 forged us into a real band," said singer Andi Deris. "We are all very keen in recording a new studio album now. Artistically, it's extremely thrilling."

In other news, HELLOWEEN has announced the "United Alive World Tour Part II", set to kick of in September 2020.

Bassist Markus Grosskopf said: "It was already lots of fun to create a show from the variety of records for the first tour. With the new album, we are able to top this. Of course, the set will contain our classics again — especially those songs we were not able to play on the first tour."

Added guitarist Sascha Gerstner: "The social media feedback was overwhelming on all counts. To hear and read 'This was the show of my lifetime' gives you the ultimate kick to offer the fans even more. Let's go for the next round!"

Tour dates:

Sep. 26 - SK Zvolen - Ice Stadium

Sep. 27 - A Vienna - Gasometer

Sep. 29 - CH Zurich - Samsung Hall

Sep. 30 - I Milan - Lorenzini District

Oct. 25 - RUS St. Petersburg - A2 Green Concert

Oct. 27 - EST Tallinn - Noblessneri valukoda

Oct. 29 - FIN Helsinki - Black Box

The "Pumpkins United" tour marked the first time Kiske had played live with HELLOWEEN since 1993. Hansen, who departed HELLOWEEN in 1988, had been joining the band onstage on various tours and festival appearances throughout the years. The set featured several duets with Kiske and his replacement, Deris, along with many rarely played songs, including "Kids Of The Century", "Rise And Fall" and "Livin' Ain't No Crime". Hansen — who fronted HELLOWEEN until late 1986 — sang a medley of several early HELLOWEEN classics, including "Ride The Sky", "Judas", "Starlight" and "Heavy Metal (Is The Law)".

CYHRA Release "I Am The One" Guitar Playthrough Video

Cyhra released their sophomore album, No Halos In Hell, last month via Nuclear Blast. Check out their new guitar playthrough video for "I Am The One":

Founded by vocalist Jake E (ex-Amaranthe) and guitarist Jesper Strömblad (ex-In Flames), Cyhra has gone from being reminiscent of the duo's former bands to having a unique identity. In fact, No Halos In Hell is one of those rare albums that defies being neatly placed in a genre box; coming out heavy and dynamic, the record is loaded with melodic vocal hooks that stay nailed to the brain for days, achieving maximum impact throughout. Fusing a relentless energy and heaviness the best way possible was Cyhra's main focus this time out. The addition of guitarist Euge Valovirta (ex-Shining) as a full member has raised the creative process to a level where, according to Jake E, "Everyone is playing to the point of what is best for the song.” No Halos In Hell is one of those rare albums that defies being neatly placed in a genre box: delivering tunes that are both heavy and dynamic, the record is loaded with melodic vocal hooks and musical ear-worms.

Produced by Jacob Hansen and co-produced by the band's very own Jake E, the album is filled with 12 live-oriented songs, ensuring maximum catchiness.

No Halos In Hell is available as 2 CD digipak, black vinyl or download. The bonus CD included in the limited digipak includes six additional songs, three of them being exclusive acoustic versions. You can order the format of your choice here.

SCORPIONS Flashback - Watch "We'll Burn The Sky" Live At The Sun Plaza Hall, Tokyo 1979 (Video)

The Scorpions' fifth studio album, Taken by Force, was released on this day in 1977. It was the first album to feature drummer Herman Rarebell and the last with Uli Jon Roth who finally departed the band in 1979.

Watch "We'll Burn The Sky", live from The Sun Plaza Hall in Tokyo, Japan in 1979:

Scorpions guitarist Matthias Jabs was a guest on New Zealand’s The Metal Bar and he confirmed the band is working on a new album and are planning a July 2020 residency in Las Vegas.

Jabs says, "We've been writing some material before we went on tour, before we went on tour this summer.  It's always difficult to come up with stuff on tour. You get the inspiration, but to actually put it down, that's a different story, when you travel every day. So we have songs, about ten, I guess, but we will have to do some more writing once this tour is over, and then prepare for the rehearsals and recordings right after our shows in New Zealand and a couple in Asia. So we will be back in early March. And we know that we work with the producer Greg Fidelman, who is known for doing Metallica and Slipknot and others, and he's a great guy. And he came to visit in our studio in Hannover, Germany already. So the plan is to record until the first of July, where we have a residency in Las Vegas for a whole month. And then, during that time, we can either do the final touch-ups or mix. And then the album should come out in the fall of 2020. And then, of course, we go on the road again."

Get ready for the biggest hard rock tour of 2020. Scorpions and Whitesnake are coming for their first ever double headline tour of Australia and New Zealand. Feel the bite of Whitesnake and the sting of the Scorpions.

"We’re gonna rock you like a hurricane,“ promises Scorpions vocalist, Klaus Meine.

Dates:

February
19 - Rod Laver Arena - Melbourne, Australia
22 - Qudos Bank Arena - Sydney, Australia
24 - Entertainment Centre - Brisbane, Australia

ROYAL TUSK Release "Die Knowing" Lyric Video; National Tour Announced

Today, Royal Tusk share a new lyric video for their song, "Die Knowing". The track is from their latest project, Tusk II, released via Entertainment One in 2018. In addition, Royal Tusk will kick off a new decade with a coast-to-coast tour across Canada for their Thunder on the Tundra tour, alongside Brkn Love, Sights & Sounds and Ready The Prince. See below for full details and watch "Die Knowing" below.

Blue-collar troubadours from the Great White North, Royal Tusk are steadfast champions of the majesty of kickass riffs, meaty hooks, a thick bottom end, and loud guitars. The four-piece band born in Edmonton, Alberta mount a high-octane assault on the lazy security blanket, self-aware irony of hipsters and the disingenuous commercial pandering of rock poseurs alike.

This is music with meaning, sometimes even a message, that’s always built around a powerful vibe and uncompromising passion. Royal Tusk is a deeply soulful celebration, brimming with working-class optimism and tempered by renegade realism. On their sophomore-slump-smashing TUSK II, the group summons the effortless energy of an era of rock music when bands weren’t content to merely reverse-engineer hit-making formulas to move units.

Royal Tusk is a band with more in common with Deep Purple and Aerosmith than anything on commercial radio. Tusk II arrived on the heels of their well-received debut, DealBreaker (2016), and their first EP, Mountain (2014).

Trailblazers like Soundgarden, Mudhoney, and Pearl Jam defined success on their own terms, putting artistry and authenticity first. Royal Tusk follows in that fine tradition, reveling in unbridled creativity that is provocative, nuanced, and captivating. The laidback charisma of stoner groove, the polished melodicism of classic and progressive rock, and the energy of punk all collide within Royal Tusk, earning them a steadily building buzz as big as their riffs.

With a powerful live set that mirrors the tenacity of their sound, you can catch Royal Tusk on the road next year. Their Thunder on the Tundra tour will kick off in Red Deer, Alberta on February 9 at Bo’s Bar, making stops through Saskatoon, British Columbia, Manitoba, Quebec, wrapping in St. Catharines, Ontario on March 6 at Warehouse.
